Ooh Wah! Batch rules! he also makes a killer apple cider
Lets go FIRE UP CHIPS!!!
few appreciate his humor but he's actually really funny...
Fire up Chips!
The marching chipps are AWESOME, Batch tends to be a chovanist
Scrupulous
Big Daddy Batch is an awesome guy, will help anyone, but talks a bit too much
He's like a big teddy bear!!! What a great guy!

He's a great leader; somewhat intimating at times, but great at his job!!
FIRE UP CHIPS! BATCH KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT WHEN IT COMES TO MUSIC AMD MARCHING BAND!
this guys does two things great....talk and eat. his class is like being on a bad date where you can't get the other person to shut up or get a word in. SHUT UP! He could get way more accomplished with a mussel. P.S. Bopping a show backwards is pointless!
Everyday is fun
Here's a guy that likes to hear himself talk. If you work well under pressure he's your guy get ready for his goofy conducting faces other then that hes OK just boring
Dr. Batchellor is a very good teacher!
Being in the marching band were some of the best years of my CMU career. I do think bopping a show is pointless but Im not a music major. I also think that the band should play songs people know rather than try to sound like a marching orchestra.
Batch is Great. He teaches about more than music.
Batch is extremely nice and makes me appreciate marching band more and have more spirit. :)
This was my first year under Batches direction, and he is by far the most influential director I have ever had
Batch is a good guy.... long winded but a good guy
Batch is awesome
Dr. B is one of the sweetest guys you will ever meet. He reminds me of my grandpa. You are missin gout if you do not get to know this man
A great guy. The shows are music people know, just people older than 18. He's always willing to help, and instilled more school spirit in me than I've ever had for any other school. Thanks Dr. Batcheller for changing my life.
Here's a guy with a lot of knowledge about the field. He does talk to much and he tries to correct it, and he's a lot better than when he got here, but man he knows his stuff. I think if you don't like him know you will realize how good he is later.
This fall will be my 2nd season under his direction. He is really nice, understanding and more level-headed than most HS band directors.
Batch is a fantastic person and makes sure everyone is giving 100% on the field! Longwinded at times and yes, he does have bad jokes on occassion, but his heart is made of gold! Maroon and gold that is! Let's go Fire Up Chips!
Good guy
Batch is the best teacher ever! He's helpful, nice, and hilarious - plus he knows what he's talking about.
Batch is the most hilarious teacher i have ever had. We cant be the best band in the land with out the best director in the land! Fire up Chips!!
Dr. Batcheller is awesome! He shows more pride in his band and his school than anyone I know, and his attitude is contagious! I love how he instills the attitude of supporting our team and putting our best show ever onto the field each and every game. Fire up chips!!
Cant stand this guy. The marching band is just like highschool with more talent and more pissing and moaning.

Although he has thorough knowledge of the subject, he has poor execution. In marching band, he often compromises musical excellence in favor of politics and "tradition." His tendency to play favorites also compromises musicality.
Batch is one of the best teachers i have ever had. He cares about every student in the band and would do anything to help. I would take this class all year round if I could
If you're a music major, or you have the "right attitude", he's enjoyable. Me, I like to have fun, because that's what marching band is to me. I don't like how he manages time on the field, he is more distant than I'd prefer, and he is one of the most boring speakers I've ever heard.
He was quite good and instilled in me a desire to get better. He is obviously passionate about conducting and education. A+
Dr. Batcheller is an excellent marching band director. His growing discipline is making the Marching Chips even more presentable/exciting each year. When he gets mad, he's not one to be around, but hey, he's human. Plus, marching band is military based so take pride and honor.LET'S GO FIRE UP CHIPS!
Batch is a great teacher! I had a very unpleasant situation come up this past fall while in marching band and he was very understanding. This is a teacher you can joke around with and can go to for advice if need be.
I think that he really loves music and his job, but when a problem arises he turns his head the other way. He's also very inflexible. He wouldn't even allow me to miss a practice for observation hours I needed for my teaching degree even after I reminded him that band is an elective, my degree isn't

He's a great Marching Band Instructor and He's so devoted to it. He makes the Marching Chips better each day.
This is one of the most fun classes I have taken here at CMU. Dr. Batchellor is a great guy, and he really likes to make jokes a lot, even if they aren't that funny. And just wait till cars pass by honking on the field. You'll love it.
Yeah, he's probably a really nice guy as long as your in marching band. Try to be in his band if you're not! Suddenly some absences magically change from excused to unexcused and your GPA drops.
He made my first year as a Marching Chip absolutely awesome! It was a great way to start off my college career!
Marching band is so much fun, and he's a big reason why. He makes you want to do good, and is always encouraging us to be devoted to the band and to our school. I can't wait to march the next 3 years under his direction. Oo-wah!
He's alright. I had some problems with him though.
Very obnoxious professor. He lectures in a way that everyone likes him but is pretty much an a** the rest of the time. If you cant devote every minute of your life to his precious band, dont even think about it. Marching band is also a lot of politics. If your a music major, every move you make is being monitored and spied on by your peers.
I love marching band! He makes it fun although it's hard work for only one credit(for colorguard at least) He is helpful if you need something. easy to talk to unless you catch him at a bad time. He's a crazy but fun guy!
Very slow paced class and not a lot of feedback from the teacher. Lots of wasted time with peer evaluation from people who don't know what they are talking about. Peer evaluation would be valuable in a smaller class that is less pressed for time. He had very poor attendance.

He's a cool dude most of the time. His temper can fire up pretty easily sometimes, but most of all he's a good guy.
I had both Batch and Jack in Marching band I felt Batch was much better to deal with. I saw some pretty unusual things happen to kids (injuries, illness etc) and Batch dealt with most of it very well. If you give him notice and try to work with him he's great. He can be a bit disorganized though.
Dr. Batch is an amazing guy. He's energetic and full of life. He loves his job more than anything and will do whatever it takes to fire up them chips. He is truly a great professor.
Batcheller is hilarious. He is very energetic and definitely knows what he is talking about. Only complaint is that he has mood-swings sometimes. He'll be laughing and joking around one minute, and the next he'll single out one section to yell at and tell them how their ineptitude is going to get someone killed. I still recommend Marching Band.
Not a very pleasant man to work with. For me, he turned band from something I loved to something I dread.
He puts on a great face, which is why most people join marching band, but really he is not an effective teacher. I thought Marching Band was going to be a lot more intense than it really is. He tells pointless stories, has mood swings, and the music and drill for shows isn't very good. I was expecting a lot more from a college marching band.
Highly hypocritical. Talks the entire time about nonsense. Lame jokes that only the morons laugh at. Used to love band and after one semester hated it.
Jim can be difficult to work with - he may not be extremely effective during a rehearsal, but he is an incredibly intelligent person. Look past his quirky stories that many find "nonsense", and find a teacher who understands the psychology of teaching as well as how to develop a relationship with a student that most professors dream of. Great guy.
Dr.Batch is a good man. He is very effective teaching in the concert setting. I do however feel that he could improve his marching band rehearsals. By challenging the band more and making it more intense. I felt that a lot of time was wasted during the marching season. He is still a great teacher with a very knowledgeable background in this subject
He is the best prof EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He has such a sense of humor and he always has a funny story to tell the class. He makes marching band amazing!
Dr. Becheller has forced me to question my choice as a music major often. If in my professional career I have to consistantly deal with "professionals" of his caliber, I'm not sure the field is as prestigious as I once thought. His Lack of focus durring class and rehearsal has been bringing down the quality of the band program for years.
I love Dr. Batcheller!! He's a really fun and caring guy! I know for sure I'm marching all 4 years!!!
Batch is the easiest A to get if you are a marcher. He is boring and talks way to much during rehearsal but he is extremely passionate about the band and loves it more than his own family.
Amaaaaaaaaaazing!!! Greatest professor!!! Makes me love marching band and just music period that much more!!!!!!!! :DDDD
I understand why people love Batcheller, he is easily likable and an extremely knowledgeable individual, in music and a lot of other things. However, his lack of focus in the classroom gets in the way of the educational experience. He is NOT a good teacher and you will leave his rehearsals/classroom feeling you learned nothing and wasted your time.
Love this guy.
Dr. Batcheller means well, but he talks WAY too much (about unrelated things). There have been several instances where I've nearly fallen asleep while standing in marching band. Also, attendance is "mandatory," and for a class that meets 5 times a week, you're not given ANY unexcused absences, which I think is wrong. Nice guy, but gets off-topic.
The "class" is marching band so it's not like it is going to be hard. Yes...It is time consuming, but it's college level marching band. Dr.B is the typical marching band director. He is friendly, sometimes funny, and extremely unorganized. Get over the fact that he is usually late in relaying messages to the band and you'll love the big guy.
Is a really good guy. Very approachable. He is clear and concise. He can deal with problems poorly though and can be clueless at times
Dr. Batcheller is a very nice man. For marching band, you can tell he cares about the organization and the core values upon which it was built. He rambles and tangents quite a bit, but in a 1 on 1 setting, he is an easy man to talk to no matter the issue.
Show up daily and you'll be fine. Keep your head low and make it through.
Batch is so funny and knows when to joke and when to be serious. Treats everyone with respect. Call times are early, and the time commitment is huge, but it was such a fun class and Batch makes it even more fun.
The most you learn in his class is in-depth perspective on his inner monologue, teaches nothing on how to run a marching band
Big Daddy Batch!
I love marching band and Batch is a great director. Nothing more needs to be said- the class is all loosely based on attendance so show up 90% of the time and you'll do great.
Batch is great and so is the marching band. You'll find a few bad apples but overall, the CMB is a great group.
I didn't particularly love college MB the way I loved it in HS, but Batch is a gem all the same. He made my two years in the MB bearable. He's a goof and really cares about everyone in his band and really means well. I am excited to have him for other classes.
Batch is an amazing teacher and person, his ability to make every year, day, and class memorable for his students is something that deserves recogmition, He is a yapper but I personally find his random rants rather entertaining and absolutely love the CMB and the experiences I have had and will have with the program in the future.
Batch is easily one of the most caring professors at CMU and makes marching band fun to participate in. He expects a lot but it's fair since it is a college marching band and does get very serious about taking care of yourself and others. He's hilarious as well and understands that we're put through a lot of work.
Great Guy!!!! Thoroughly enjoy being in the marching band! Yaps a lot but it's fun and charming, plus what needs to be done gets done. Requires practice outside of class to memorize, Attendance is very much mandatory, MUST participate daily. He is very fun and makes marching band super enjoyable, rekindled my motivation to play my instrument daily.
Batch is such a fun guy. I won't be taking marching band again next year because it took up so much time, but if you are considering doing marching band, you should absolutely try it. I have made so many life long friends.
Absolutely nothing negative to say. He's a very intelligent director who has a strong passion for what he does. Gives very clear expectations. His class is tough but not more than what should be expected from a college marching band. Absolutely loved his class.
