The most horrible teacher ever!!
makes subjects so hard to understand. makes it harder than is. test harder than quizes. i dont recomend.

I dont know what everyone else is talking about, but this guy has an easy class. All you have to do is pay attention and take notes. He is unclear sometimes, but its because he is trying to show you the reasonings behind each step. He is also very helpful if you ask him to help you outside of class. Really nice guy, little weird though.
While he can be very unclear at time, he does make an effort to make up for it by giving extra credit if he thought he didn't explain it well. He is willing to break it down to you if you just tell him you don't understand. He may not be the best teacher but I still found it to be an easier A than expected.
Pretty confusing, most people just sit in the back of his class and talk...
He is really helpful and he is so concerned about how well you understand the material. He really is a reasonable guy, if you let him know that he is being unclear then he will readdress the subject in a different manner. He is more concerned with you understanding the concept than simple little errors. Really nice guy!
In the beginning I thought I had made the biggest mistake, but he turns out to be okay. He is very unclear on explaining how to do the work, but always gives a curve on tests. I got a "B" but I had to go to tutoring alot!!!
HE IS REALLY BORING AND BAD AT TEACHING
very smart and knows what he's talknig about, but isn't quite sure of how to dumb it down for everyone. He is very concerned with how well you understand it and if you don't understand he will try to make it clear. He usualy went over the material for the quiz right before the quiz and it was the same thing he just explained. very easy overall
Easiest math class I've ever taken... Baugh's a nice guy but his class is so BORING! Lectures seem to go to Calculus II and beyond. One minute he'll be talking about the topic on hand and the next minute he'll be telling you some random fact about whatever... But.. tests and quizzes are pretty easy.
I am very bad at math and i'll get a B. He is an extremely easy grader. but goes off on unrelated tangents. Notes are hard to follow , go to tutoring it helps. He makes information much harder than it is. He needs to be teaching a higher level math.

It's an easy math class but only if you go to the learning center to study because he uses different formulas from the book. He is kind of boring but there isn't an attendance policy.
This teacher is a bit confusing at times, sometimes he tends to OVER explain a problem or concept. Studying is a must, group sessions are a must also. He will give extra credit and always looks out for the student. It's not an "easy" A but I got it from just doing what I was supposed to after class; in class you really just review.
if you absolutely suck at math, this might not be the class for you, but if you have a basic understanding of the course you are about to take you will be fine. no homework, easy tests and quizzes. i attended class only on test and quiz days and made an A.
Very smart teach, but do NOT recommend for first time calc. students. Hard to keep up with and kind of scattered.
He knows his stuff, but he can get off track sometimes. He also tends to glaze over some topics and not do enough problems. He's really helpful with specific questions.
Get out fast. No calculators allowed. And he is by far the most confusing teacher on campus.
I didn't like this class at all. He was extrememly confusing and didn't do a good job at explain how to do things. He got off task all the time, but didn't let us know until after he explained it all, Then we were all lost and didn't know what we needed to know. Tutoring couldn't even help me!
Get out as fast as you can. He's extremely confusing and doesn't allow calculators. Not worth the frustration at all.
Poor guy. He is very smart, know his math really well and you can tell that he really has a pasion for it. But if you're not as excited as he is (no one is) the material is very hard to understand. Good guy.
He is not a good teacher. He is confusing- he is the only person who understands what he's talking about. His class is not very difficult however.
Nice guy, super easy, goes off topic A LOT but picks easy questions for tests
This was the easiest class I've ever taken in my life. If you have any basic knowledge of functions and such, you'll do well. He is really boring, but such a sweet guy. And his tests are so simple! No homework, no attendence policy..he doesn't even care if you leave in the middle of class. Seriously, if you want a slacker class, here you go!
BAUGH IS AWESOME. Has an interesting sense of humor that i found entertaining. Don't really need to go to class to do well in the class, but you'll be entertained for the hour you're there. Tests are easy...homework even easier. Will do anything to help you out. BAUGH 09!!!! i'm not kidding...you'll love him. greatest guy and teacher you'll take
Very easy to make an A in this class. He is semi intersting but he tends to veer off of the subject alot which makes it confusing. He talks about a lot of unimportant things but once again EASY TO MAKE AN A!!!!!!
Overall Good Professor
Gets off topic too much and is hard to follow. tends to mumble and can get easily distracted
He has issues staying on track and likes to write huge formulas on the board and then not give us a clear explanation as to what the formula does and when to use it. Basically, avoid him if you want to learn something.
Professor loves to talk and at times he gets a little off what he is talking about. Tries to add in his head when it is just easier to use a calculator. Can be confusing at times, ask questions he will try to help you. Attendance is not necessary but I would recommend you going
He is a very sweet guy and super smart. He is so smart though that he has a hard time relaying information to students, but if you read the text and do some additional problems you should get an A! He is very lenient on grading the test and always tries to give you as much credit as he can! Easy A:)
Difficult to follow and comprehend what he is teaching. Not a very effective teacher.
Worst teacher I've ever had...drop ASAP
Baugh is extremely difficult to understand. I basically had to teach myself everything out of the book. However, he is understanding and helps more in his office hours. I managed an A because his tests are open note.
Yes, Baugh is all over the place. Given the subject, he made it as interesting as possible and will work around your schedule no matter what. I should have failed, but his lenience definitely helped.
class was an absolute joke. he is not helpful if you don't understand though. super smart guy, but not a good teacher at all. he took forever to get grades back, would leave things at home a lot. rarely posted study guides online like he said he would. doesn't answer emails very quickly. it was an easy A for me because I learned everything in HS.
Yes, Baugh can be all over the place. But there is internet, textbook, supplemental instruction, etc. that you can utilize. This man is a GENIUS. I like to come to class to catch some of his physics off-shoots which are so abstract and incomprehensible to me, its completely fascinating.
Really nice and smart man. If you have a good basis in math you should make an A easily! Sometimes gets off track of what we're learning, but it's interesting.
I went to class for about the first half of the semester but I stopped going because I learned nothing from his teaching, and I just became more confused. His test are right from the notes online and they're pretty easy, as well as the homework, but as for baugh himself.... well he's a little to smart for his own good. nice guy though.
The guy is obviously very smart and friendly. I hardly used my book and basically learned from the online homework (which can be lengthy at times). I didn't gain much by going to class because he was a bit too scattered for me to follow. Just make 100's on HW; He curves tests that are almost duplicates of his practice tests. Not awful.
He is too smart for his own good. First few classes we just sat there confused until we all never went to class anymore. I ended up going to class once every two weeks and walking out half way through if it wasn't important, which he didn't mind. He ended up making our HW average all 100s and gives out lots of bonus points. seemed like a nice guy
He is very smart so often times class is just confusing and you don't learn anything but he allows you to skip so whatever...If you ask, he helps with whatever you need and his tests are a lot like his study guides. Plus he's probably one of the nicest teachers I've had. I'd definitely suggest him.
He is a really nice guy and he makes it easy for you to pass his class, you just wont learn. I skipped pretty much every class and only showed up for tests, because he's too smart for his own good and has a lot of difficulty making the material in his lectures understandable for a student who isn't already pretty good at math.
Took Baugh for Trig & was a very easy A. He is an extremely nice guy but very hard to understand teaching wise. Curves test and weights homework greatly
Dr. Baugh is extremely scatterbrained and too smart to teach such an easy class... Although he is difficult to understand, he really does want you to do well. Go to him if you have trouble. I failed the first two tests and still managed to scrape a B out of the course. If you have to take him, just make sure you look over notes before the tests.
He is way too smart for his own good. Attendance is not mandatory so I didnt go much because he just confused me. He is a really nice guy and will help you if you need it, but I would recommend doing the practice problems he gives in the learning center. Got an A because he gives super helpful formula sheets for the test. MOSTLY A SELF TAUGHT CLASS
For someone who understands and likes math, I didn't care for this class. You will have to learn it yourself because Baugh is almost too smart to be teaching this class. He is really nice and sometimes all over the place but he makes the material sound more confusing than it should be. He does give partial credit and his study guides are the tests.
Baugh is a really nice guy and down to help where he can. He really is just too smart for his own good. He knows exactly what he is talking about but does not really do a good job explaining it in terms to where you can understand. Attendance is not mandatory and the test are just like study guides, so its not hard to get an A in this class!
He really cares about whether or not you pass. He curves tests and gives you credit for trying problems on the test. Homework due every week. He's such a nice man
His lectures are sometimes difficult to understand, as he is very enthusiastic about the subject and tends to talk to himself, but he gives great practice problems and tends to not cold call on people for answers, which is both comforting and relaxing. If you miss class one day, he makes sure to restate what was covered and gives additional pract.
Wish he taught more courses I could take
If math is not your thing, then this class is NOT for you. He is a very smart man, but I barely made it out with a D. I never missed class, I took notes every day, and I still failed every single test. If it wasn't for the seven homework assignments we had, I would be retaking this class. AVOID.
Although the way he teaches is difficult, in that you don't seem to use a lot of what he says, his study guides are pretty great tools for the tests. He's a nice guy and is willing to work with your schedule! (If you have 3 tests on Wed. you can ask to take yours with another section instead)
AVOID AVOID AVOID. He was too smart to teach and laughed when someone asked a question. The study guide did not help prepare for tests and he always made the tests very tricky. Rambled on in class about nothing important and homework was never anything like we discussed in class. Sucks one on one in office hours too.
He teaches as if the whole class is full of math majors and over compicates everything. STAY AWAY.
Be prepared to teach yourself if you take this course. His class every week is reserved for homework questions only, and he wont answer questions that aren't related to the homework, or if you haven't done the homework prior to the class (even if the homework isn't due for another week). He tends to ramble, so get ready to hear that.
He can never seem to stay on the subject of math and goes on random rants, but if you go to his office hours he is very helpful! I would definitely use the online tools you are given cause I mostly had to teach myself.
If you like to be taught the material, especially in a math class, do not take Dr. Baugh. He doesn't lecture, expects you to come in and have already looked at the homework for the next week and wants you to ask questions. You will have to teach yourself everything or be in the math lab at least 4 days a week to get taught.
READ THIS he is aspiring to be a physics prof, so if you are not a STEM major you will not find his class interesting. He finds calculus and relates it to physics (which as a physics major I like). He gets some problems he works out wrong but sends emails to fix his mistakes. Smart dude. I only went to half of the classes and will end up with a B
James Baugh was too intelligent to be teaching core-level algebra. Class was not lecture; he just went over homework, which was him going off on higher math tangents that have nothing to do with the course. It is possible to do well, but its a drag to get there. He also is not very quick to get grades in or to fix issues with the online quizzes.
I had to basically teach myself for this whole class and everything is online except the tests. The homework was easy because after a few tries you would get the right answer, but it was hard to understand the way to get the right answer. The quizzes were hard and the tests were even harder. Although throughout the semester he endsupdropping grades
This man rambles on and on without really ever saying anything. Attending class is a grade but was absolutely not helpful. Any learning I did I did on my own with the online textbook. Also extremely boring. Do not recommend.
If you aren't good at math do not take this class with this professor. You only have class once a week and that time is used only to go over homework. You have to teach yourself the material.
All of the work for college algebra is completed through an online textbook, so honestly, showing up to class is kind of pointless (though, your attendance is your participation). Bring work to do during class, and if you need help, go to the Learning Center or the Math lab to make the most of your time.
So a lot of his lectures are flipped classrooms where you look over the material on your own and then review in class. I actually dont learn well this way but if you do all your homework and do your best he WILL work with you in anyway he can.
I actually LOVED attending this class. You have to do 3 hours a week in the math lab, but if you have a good enough grade then you get to skip that. He talks a lot and tends to get off topic but he is an AMAZING professor outside of class. If you talk to him and he likes you, the grades are going to be in your favor. 10/10
Math isnt much thing. He didnt really teach, just went over homework most of us had already done. Kind of pointless to show up to class, but he took attendance. He was chill.
Class was an easy A but maybe that's just because I'm good at math, because I know a few people who struggled. Baugh was a very confusing professor and to be honest I never listened to him at all in class because he makes something that could be so simple so confusing. I recomend not listening to him at all and to learn everything on your own.
I am not a math person. The entire class is pretty much all online. weekly quizzes and homework assignments (20-40 questions). He really only teaches to the students who understand what he is talking about. Does not teach step-by-step. I eventually dropped the class because it was not good for my mental health. He expects everyone to know the work.
Class is only once a week, and showing up is pointless. He does take attendance though. All homework and quizzes are online, and you basically have to teach yourself everything. He goes off on rants easily and talks about movies a lot.
Despite what everyone else has said, this class is honestly not bad. You do teach yourself the material and class is mandatory once a week to go over the homework, but if you want to pass and put in the time to learn the material, you will make an A or B. Dr. Baugh is a very kind/understanding man, and will help you if you ask for it.
I took Baugh for college algebra. Unless you can understand math on your own or are able to get help outside of class, don't take his class. the class only meets once a week and is pointless because all he does is go over the homework we've already done, and to make it worse his teaching style is confusing and in a way that only he can understand.
Easily one of the nicest teachers. His class is really challenging and there is a lot of outside / online work. His teaching method and analogies can go little above your head because he is extremely intelligent, but he is always willing to help you and look for ways to give you partial credit.
The class is taken through "MyMathLab", so all the assignments are online, & you meet once a week and go over the homework, but he makes everyone more confused. Luckily, I am good at math so I showed up just for attendance and sat on my phone. But if you need a teacher that actually helps and teaches you everything, this isn't the class for you.
This man hasn't taught me one thing being in his class. You are taught completely from a textbook so if you value your professor actually teaching you don't go near any of his classes. He is by far the worst math teacher I've ever had. He seems to not value his students and I have trouble contacting him outside of class. Good luck in his courses..
This class is mostly online and then one class a week. I went to class for the attendance grade but I didn't really learn much from him because he would always go on tangents. I'm usually good at math and I didn't do too well on tests but he does try to give you a lot of extra points on your tests especially if you go to his office hours (I didn't)
Not the greatest teacher. Cares about his students and will bump your grade up but is too smart to be teaching the course. Goes on tangents about math not related to your course and it is confusing. Math lab and tutors will be your best friend for this class!
He doesn't really teach but the website that you do all the homework and quiz's on teaches you more than he does. He is a super nice guy and gives you plenty of opportunities to get a good grade with homework. Also you can meet after big tests to go over it to get back some points.
Honestly, the teacher himself is very sweet and caring and will help you if you come to his office hours and go over the tests with him. The course itself is more difficult because you are essentially teaching yourself the class. Be prepared to be in the Math lab a lot and take advantage of the hours.
this is a class you are teaching yourself ALL of the material. we met once a week and all we did was go over questions from hw not even learn the material. if your good at math you'll do just fine in this class
This professor is super caring of his students and a generally nice, funny guy. However, we only meet once a week to go over homework so he doesn't really teach much unless you have questions in class. Get ready to teach yourself basically everything.
He cannot teach that well, but he is nice. The tutors in the lab and mathway are your friend. Attendance is required, but not to help you on work. You have to spend 3 hours every week in the math lab. The videos on the text book help too. He loves to talk and class is boring, but it's not terrible. Don't be scared.
Class is once a week, weekly quiz/homework due online, 3 tests & a final. LC tutors are your friend. A teach yourself class, not hard but if math doesn't come easy to you, make sure to take the time to know material from online textbook. COVID made tests online & open note which helped me make A's. Not a bad guy, class is used to ask HW question's
His class is based on online assignments, and class is mostly for answering questions from the homework. Be ready to teach yourself the information from the book because he doesn't, and there are required lab hours. There is a decent amount of participation required to do well in this class, but the content is easy (mostly review from high school).
Nah, he's not it. He can't explain the material without going on about fifty other math tangents. I got lucky the tests and quizzes are online this semester. Don't expect to understand anything he teaches in class. Outside help is easy though if you need it.
if you aren't good at math/algebra then good luck. attendance was mandatory but I sat in the back and did other homework. 3 hours in math lab every week. not a bad class but you will teach it all yourself/get help from the learning center or math lab. advice is to do the homework and work for that chapter before the class you review it in
James Baugh is a great guy but horrible prof. He is almost too smart for his own good. He lectures to himself for the entire class period and goes off on a million tangents that have nothing to do with the material we are learning. Homework is completion and all tests are online. Overall, the work is easy to complete but difficult to understand.
Baugh is terrible. He goes on tangents in class, and I did better teaching myself. I even went to the learning center and they had no clue what I was learning. Test were all take home, and homework was online with multiple attempts until you got a 100. You had practice tests before taking the actual test.
Quizzes every week. Three tests in total. All quiz questions are also on tests but with different numbers. You get one sheet of notes (front and back) to use for each test. The class is super easy if you don't slack off on the work but Professor is not helpful and doesn't teach. You basically teach yourself.. I never went to class and did fine.
While Baugh is a nice guy he is an awful professor. I really struggled in his class as it was "self-guided" and unless you can teach yourself all the material you will really struggle. Attending class made me even more confused because he would go off on tangents that made no sense. Overall my hardest class by far this semester.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!! You will not learn a single thing. Prepare to have to spend 3 hours in the math lab and have other people teach you the material and spend hours doing graded homework on something you have not been taught. I do not recommend taking this class if you are bad at math. You will teach yourself everything because he's no help
Professor Baugh was a really nice guy. Always easy to talk to. However, if you are not good at math then I recommend running the other way. On day one he told us he would not teach us the material and we would have to teach ourselves through the textbook. I never learned anything and dropped half way through the semester.
The WORST. I don't even know if you can call him a teacher because he doesn't teach, he expects you to learn it all online using Pearson. Attendance is somehow required even tho we don't get lectured in class- we review student's questions on the hw. Algebra is supposed to be the "easy math"... ur better off in calculus with another teacher. 0/10
professor Baugh is smart, there's no doubt about it, but he doesn't teach like a teacher. instead of walking you through a math problem, he writes it down and gives you about 5 seconds to do a 5-minute problem. what I'm trying to say is that he says the answer before you even start doing the problem. which is not teaching you anything.
Do not take!! You wont be taught anything so learning all the material is extremely tedious and frustrating. He allows one page of notes during the test which is the only reason im not failing.
In my experience I felt like there was not a lot of instruction and we only reviewed stuff we had already been graded on.
do.not.take. college algebra should be easy but there was just no way to do well. in class he would't teach and would just tell people to ask questions on the homework, which the homework was given with no instructions or videos or help so there was no way to know how to do it. going to this class was a waste of time and there are quizzes each week
Dr. Baugh is a genuinely nice man, but he needs to never teach an entry level math class. He is a very intelligent man who cannot explain anything to students. He just really understands the material but he cannot teach others to understand it.
Professor Wilkinson was difficult to understand in class sometimes, but he was very helpful if you needed something.
Being a college algebra course, I expected it to be way easier. There are weekly homework assignments as well as quizzes but those grades barely affect your overall grade in the class. The tests are pretty difficult and there are only 3. He is not a terrible teacher, just too intelligent to be teaching an entry level course.
If you need to learn something, do not go to class, all he will do it just confuse you. The tutors in the math lab are very very helpful, use them if you ever need help. Also, do the test reviews, the test have very similar questions.
The whole class is on pearsons. You don't really learn much from the lectures because he gets side tracked a lot. Along with this he comes in smelling like smoke everyday.
Dr. Baugh is a good person, he is just a terrible teacher. I get more confused by going to class rather than just skipping it and winging the tests. The tests are take home in this class which is good and the homework is graded easily, you just do not learn anything. He never stays on topic and will confuse you. Do not take if you want to learn.
A really nice guy, just way too smart to be teaching lower level courses. I've found that if you go to his office hours and ask specific questions it's very helpful. He's also super forgiving about tests grades and you can go in to review your old exams with him and he'll give you partial credit on missed questions even if you don't deserve it.
Baugh is a nice guy but his class is pointless. You only have class once a week & it's just to go over HW problems. You have to teach yourself on your own time, so if you're not good at math, this class probably isn't right for you. He is very forgiving with your grades though and will work with you to get extra credit back on missed test questions
James Baugh will not teach you a thing, you'll have to do that in the MATHLAB, but he is an amazing professor for what it is worth. I feel like he really cared about us and wanted us to succeed or at least pass his class. His final was online take home and told us we could use our own calculators and notes which is why I passed.
This professor does not teach anything in class, and he says that class time is for hw questions only. Everything is uploaded to math lab for your assignments and he does not help with anything. He gives out 0 notes. He also requires you to have 3 hours of math lab time a week which is a waste of time. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. Do not recommend AT ALL.
I didn't learn anything in this class. attendance is mandatory but class is terrible. He just talks and nobody understands what he is rambling about. Today he posted on GA view that he lectured about the wrong thing. I've sent him 4 emails in the last month and he hasn't responded to a single one. you have to spend 3 hrs a week in the math lab.
Thank God attendance isn't mandatory. Baugh has a hard time explaining things well. He gets off track and does not know what he is doing at times. If you cannot teach yourself math, this class is not for you. I am one of those people that can't. Luckily, the final is taken home and replaces the lowest test grade. Cried a lot because of this class.
Do not pick this class if you are not willing to teach yourself outside of class. I find algebra easy but if you struggle with math do not take. It is a flipped classroom so most of the work is done in the math emporium but it is nice to only meet once a week. He is a funny professor but does not really explain concepts clearly.
doesn't teach at all, class time is only to ask questions
Dr. Baugh is a nice man, but his class is difficult if you aren't good at teaching yourself math. Lectures are hard to follow and the homework assignments every week are lengthy. He does allow one piece of paper for every test, which helps a little bit, and he is forgiving on tests and helps you out if you review the test with him after taking it.
We met once a week for class but had to spend 3hrs in the math emporium in the library each week. Class size decreased from 35 to 10ish by the end of the semester. Our exams allowed 1 note paper, but I found that there were too many questions to finish in time without rushing (IMO). Final exam was take home :)
Dr. Baugh spent the whole hour and a half reviewing over about three questions from the homework assignment, and no one in the class learned anything from it. This class is abysmal, and I regret taking it.
Dr. Baugh is a very kind, intelligent man and clearly has an extreme passion for mathematics, but unfortunately It's extremely hard to follow his lectures and his class is graded by three tests, homework, and a final. His tests however weren't too difficult but if you are somebody who struggles to learn math by yourself, avoid this class.
I took Baugh for Calc I. From the first class it was easy to tell that he knew what he was talking about. However, he did not teach the material well. He rambled a ton and skimmed over important topics. He would be great for upper level math, but definitely not for the lower levels. Textbook was free and homework was chill.
Save yourself and do not take this man. Explains things to us like we also have a degree in Mathematics instead of simplifying it for us. Also always smells like cigarette smoke which is really annoying too. Take literally anyone else save yourself!
One of my favorite math professors I have ever had the pleasure of learning from.
The entire class is self-taught from the textbook, you have to do 3 hours minimum each week outside of class time in the math emporium working on homework and quiz assignments (which all have a lot of questions and take a while), and during actual class time Baugh mostly rambles and doesn't actually help.
Overall, Dr. Baugh is a very kind person, he just shouldn't be teaching introductory courses. The man is very knowledgeable about what he teaches, but his lectures are SUPER confusing and he rambles a lot. I found it more helpful to read the examples on the homework. You have required math lab hours every week and a quiz/homework due every friday.
Professor Baugh is a very sweet man. He is incredibly smart and I adore him as a person. Sadly, I think he may be too smart to be teaching the material to people who don't understand it.Goes very fast, expects us to get it as quick as he does. The material is not as hard as it feels when he does it. Make time to teach yourself you will be okay.
Terrible professor, rambles on about random stuff in class so don't bother going if you actually want to learn anything. Required to spend 3 hours a week in the math lab or 1 if you get an A on the weekly quiz. Everything is online on pearson and the tests are taking in the math lab on monitored computers. Avoid bro at all costs he trash fr.
I'm being so for real when I say people are being so dramatic about this man. He is not that bad, is he weird, yes, but it's entertaining. Everything you do in this class is on pearson, but I didn't mind it cause pearson walks you through all of the problems. You will do good in this class if you want to do good, if you don't try you won't. SIMPLE!
I think people just hate on this man cause they want to do nothing and still pass. I won't lie he is odd but, he lets you bring a cheat sheet to each test and posts practice tests that are almost identical to the tests. If you do the practice test and write your cheat sheet based off all the questions on the practice test you will do good.
I think Baugh is a very nice person, but to me personally not a good teacher. If you go to class all he does is ramble and write things on the board without telling you what it is. The first homework assignment was 72 questions long. You will have to teach yourself which I found out too late and I'm failing the class now.
Mr Baugh is not a very good teacher in my opinion. As someone who is not very good at math to begin with, but put in a fair amount of effort outside of class I really struggled in this class. He is just not good at explaining concepts in class and is very disorganized. One good thing is that tests are definitely curved by a lot.
Only take this class if you are very good at math. This man is NOT a teacher, and you will not learn how to do math in his class. You have to completely teach yourself. The tests count for a lot, and it is very hard to pass them unless you truly understand absolutly everyhting, which is very hard to do. He has never answered any of my emails.
Baugh's teaching is chaotic, with fast, disorganized lectures that are hard to follow. I had to self-teach to pass. He's inaccessible outside class, rarely answering emails or calls. He often leaves for cigarette breaks, disrupting lessons and creating a smoky, unpleasant environment. Expect lots of homework, limited grading, and tough exams.
He rambles a lot and is hard to follow. You basically have to teach yourself. You must spend 3 hours in the emporium lab every week, but only 1 hour if you make an A on the quiz. The material is super easy, it's literally 8th grade level math. Tests are open note. As long as you're ok with teaching it to yourself, you'll be fine. Easy A.
Dr. Baugh is a knowledgeable professor, but his lectures can be confusing. The class is self-taught, so be prepared to put in a lot of work outside of class. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for practice and review.
He taught things that were not in the criteria. He would go on tangents in class about topics that were not on the test. He has required library hours (3 a week) for every homework assignment, but I don't think he even counts them. Take him if you can learn math on your own. Attendence did not matter, you teach yourself all the material anyway.
Please don't take this class if you value your mental health. He has no clue how to teach lower level math to non math majors. In no way is he a bad guy, just not a great lower level math professor. His lectures are lengthy and confusing and you WILL have to teach yourself the entire course.
Didn't teach me a single thing the whole year, very easy class which made it not to hard to deal with, wouldn't want him in a higher level course. If you can't teach simple math to yourself might wanna dual enroll at another college to get this credit.
Don't take this class unless you are already good at math and are looking for an easy math class to fulfill one of your degree requirements. Professor Baugh makes things more confusing with the way he explains concepts, there is no in class work, all of the work is through Pearson the online textbook, lots of homework and quizzes and 3 tests.
Genuinely awful. Hours upon hours of work teaching myself the content and 3+ hours of homework required a week. He adjusts the grade cutoffs to keep his distribution high which is the only reason I pulled out an A. Required an embarrassing amount of effort. He doesn't teach, so don't bother going to lectures. He took attendance twice. Not good.
Literally all of the work for this class is done on your own outside of class time. I literally had to teach myself the entire course. And when I did go to class, his lectures just made me confused and set me back. He doesn't answer questions very well and is not very nice or approachable. Do not recommend.
I ended with an A in this class bcs I found the coursework easy. I did poorly at the beginning but he did drop a test grade. He tells you he takes attendance but it after a few weeks people stop showing up and ur fine. I self-taught myself bcs the test review is the same as the test. Hes not a great teacher but a good grade is attainable.
I took Dr. Baugh for college Algebrea. He rambled a lot and his lectures were confusing. His class was homework heavy. Me and my friend basically had to teach ourselves this class based off of the examples on the homework. He is not much help in office hours. Only good thing is that he curves grades. If you struggle in math, try not to take him.
going to class was pointless because he didn't teach anything related to quizzes and tests. all tests taken in math lab so its proctored. required 2-3 hours in the math lab a week which was inconvenient. be prepared to teach the material to yourself.
I'm dropping this course before the end of the W period bc yes all the other reviews are correct. Don't even try to take him bc he is the most confusing convoluted math teacher I have ever met. Went to the Learning Center for help, and not one but TWO ppl told me to drop bc they had no clue what this man was teaching and my only hope was ChatGPT.
Interesting guy but you have to be able to teach yourself. I went to class probably 3 times the whole semester because it was so much easier to just teach myself based on the pearson online textbook. All the tests are on pearson and are graded very harshly but he rounded my grade like 8 points at the end for literally no reason. nice guy tho
I wouldn't say he's the worst math teacher I've ever had, but he's not the best. He goes really fast on his lectures and does stuff in his head, so he's hard to follow. All the notes on Georgia View, including the tests and homework, are online. I have to get ChatGPT to explain it every time. so take that with what you will.
He gave weekly homework that usually had less than 10 questions and the tests were about the same. He gives you a week to do the tests and the homework (both online and take home). He allows you to ask questions about both in class, and you can use your notes. Lectures aren't super fun and he rambles a lot. Really nice guy, just a difficult teacher
The 3-hour math lab felt excessive. Being required to stay a week ahead on assignments created added stress and made it feel like we were teaching ourselves. Additionally, the tests were weighted too heavily given the limited instruction. More direct teaching, reasonable pacing, and balanced grading would greatly improve the learning experience.
The rumors are true, he's a bad professor, which I don't like saying because he's a nice man. However, he tends to talk in circles and give few in-class practice problems that let you actually apply his lessons. He has completion-based homework so that at least boosts your grade. I had to hire a tutor from GSU to get a good grade. Don't take him.
weekly homework (completion so could do each question as many times as you want) and a 1 attempt quiz, if you get an A on the quiz then do 1 hour in math lab, or 3 hours if below an A. 3 tests plus a final, and the highest of your worst test or final counts as both- which is the only way I got a B in the class. final is at home with no time limit
Considering GCSU's math dept, I would recommend Mr. Baugh's class way before the other ones. He was always willing to help, always told jokes and had a cheerful nature. The workload was not excessive either, despite the weekly quizzes. However, for understanding the math, I would suggest the tutoring center. Because his lectures are very confusing.
he can't teach at all. he's one of those smart people who they're so smart they can't explain it in simpler terms to other people. i've been getting chatgpt to teach me and it makes so much more sense than his lectures. if i asked a question he would make it 10x more complicated than it is.
He's a funny teacher but doesn't teach much at all. If you are not a math person like me then prepare to teach yourself. I will say he makes himself accessible outside of class. You can call him if your quiz closes and he'll reopen it. I use the math lab tutoring and chatgpt to teach me.
If you are not a math person, this will be very difficult. He explains simple topics in the most complicated way possible. You will have to spend lots of time teaching yourself. If possible, i'd recommend taking math modeling or quantitative analysis instead.
Difficult from the start. The tests were long and no calculators allowed, which was awful because you have to do division, multiplication, etc. Spent excessive time teaching myself outside of class. Eventually dropped in fear of this hurting my GPA. Do it online or enroll in quantitative analysis or math modeling instead.
worst math class ever. I failed all the tests and he doesnt give you any help on ANYTHING even when you try and meet with him.
It's not a bad class to take. It's basically an online class, no point in coming to class because he's really smart so he over complicates everything. If you do the review before the test on Pearson's and can understand it you'll be just fine.
Every assignment will be on Pearson. If your class is once a week, you'll have to go to the math lab for 1-3 each week depending on your prior quiz. He asks that you do the homework before class and ask questions in class, but he over explains everything and makes it difficult to understand. I gave up on going because his teaching makes no sense.
The worst class/professor I have ever had. It's all online and consists of average 60+ question homework's/quizzes weekly. Doesn't teach because he is too busy talking about his cyber truck, he rambles, and his work makes zero sense. He does not care about your grade and will not help you in any way, shape, or form if you have issues. DO NOT TAKE.
Awful. He gives weekly homework that on average has 60 questions then a quiz after. He over explains everything and you just become more confused. I've given up on going to his class because it's pointless. The tests are super hard (they cost a lot of your final grade). He was so unhelpful and pretty much always ignored my emails. Just avoid him.
DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR COLLEGE ALGEBRA!! There is a reason why he has such low ratings.CONS: Class for an hour and 30 minutes once a week (He will make you stay the whole time). He will try and teach you the course, but it will be VERY confusing and not helpful. You will teach yourself the whole course. He will RANDOMLY take attendance for a grade.
Dr. Baugh is genuinely the best professor at GCSU. All tests are take home (even final exam) and homework is graded based on completion. He doesn't care about attendance so I very rarely went to class and still received a 98 final grade. He was always available for questions/concerns.
Reviews on him are ridiculous and if you will legit ONLY do the pearson modules and nothing from his class youll be fine AND if you legit just go to his office after a test he will go over questions with you and give you a better grade and the final isnt even proctored it can help ur grade a lot everyone on here is just being lazy
I'm not sure why he has so many bad reviews, he was really understanding most of the time. I missed an exam because of health issues and he let me set up a date that worked for me to take it. You don't have to go to class except for the first two weeks, after that, just keep up with the homework and quizzes each week and you'll be fine.
This is a very odd class. You basically teach yourself everything or get another person to teach it to you. Basically, the teacher will not teach you the criteria. I left more confused when I attended class. He talks in circles and mumbles things and assumes that you have already taught yourself everything by the time you get to class.
