Prof. Berman is an excellant teacher. He gives a unique way of looking at finance conceptually. He also makes the subject matter really interesting. The textbook he uses could be a little more user friendly. But all in all I liked this course.

professor Berman was a superb teacher. He always made class interesting and got everyone involved. I wasn't even that interested in finance originally but I ended up liking it in the end. I would have like some practice exam questions to prepare for the final, but other than that, great class!

The Corporate Finance course was an enjoyable experience. J. Berman has the ability to use words to clearly paint a picture - through either simple examples or actual occurrences for more topical discussions - which I believe is not a common skill. I highly recommend Prof Berman to anybody who wants to solidify their understanding of finance.

I came into James Berman's course with several years' experience as an investment writer and learned an enormous amount. Professor Berman is thoroughly engaging and informative--I would highly recommend his classes to anyone with an interest in gaining a deeper, more nuanced sense of finance and how the world really works. A brilliant professor.

Although Prof. Berman is makes no secret of his love for Graham and Buffett, he presents opposing views fairly and encourages students to come to their own conclusions. He teaches thoroughly and responsibly; I couldn't recommend him more highly.

I was impressed by the high level of the class because most students had some knowledge in finance.To be honest, it was hard because I came from France where practices are different and the American accent was also tough.Thanks to the support of M. Berman I didn't give up and I succeeded in getting a good result. His classes are very interesting!!!

He made it very easy for me to learn the basics of finance; a subject I was never introduced to until now. Great professor and class!

Great class. Professor Berman touches on both current events (interesting) and class materials (less interesting) during his lectures. His grasp and understanding of a holistic approach to corporate finance makes the class worthwhile.

Prof Berman is one of the best instructor I have encountered at NYU SCPS. He has the ability to cut to the essence of a complicated subject. No unnec-complicated material. Pay attention in class, do the homework, read the assigned chapters, be respectful of his time, follow his instructions and you will do well. His grading are extremely fair.

Professor Berman is exceptional. Every class is so well prepared (you really don't want to miss class or you miss a lot). He makes very complex ideas easy to understand, he is hugely patient, and he has a personal interest in making sure you understand. Just wish he taught more than the Intro class. NYU Fundamentals of Corporate Finance -- James was a great professor, spoke very clearly, gave relevant examples from his experience, always linked to current/historic events. The class was fairly easy while still giving a lot of information. It was not very math-intensive.

Excellent teacher (A+). Engaging and supportive of students contributing to class discussions. Prof. Berman talks with the students, not at them. He values everyone's comments and really understands that the students have different levels of experience, so he makes everyone feel comfortable contributing to the class discussion. I learned a lot.

I am really glad I took this course and I would strongly recommend it to my colleagues, specially if it can be with James. He is a great teacher, with great knowledge of this subject, very easy to understand (since I am a foreigner) and very smart.

I took his class(FINA1-CE9140) for spring semester in 2014. At first, it was somewhat challenging since I didn't have any background in finance. However, he explained everything very well so that I could get perfect score in midterm and final exam. I really learned a lot from him.

The course was very insightful and greatly organized, with a lot of new investment information guided well through various case studies.

Enthusiasm for subject contagious. Vibrant teaching. Always prepared. Inspirational.

I had an absolutely great time taking this class. James is such a great lecturer that I found myself looking forward to the end of my work days when I had class that evening. He is a very good 'story telling' teacher, using the course material as a way to have a conversation with the students in order to communicate the concepts.

Fantastic professor! I took a 6:45-9:15 pm Corporate Finance course twice a week and was worried I would find the content dry and difficult to focus on. Luckily, his real world examples were riveting and his teaching style kept us all awake, interested and engaged the entire time. One of the best professors I've ever had! Highly recommend.

Able to explain complicated things in a very simple way using basic and interactive examples (pizza restaurant, apt. hunting etc) - the best trait a teacher can have. Able to retain attention of each student during the lecture. Always there to explain and help you understand after class. Just an awesome professor!

The class is designed to help you grasp basic finance concepts (think different roles held by a firms stakeholders, costs of debt and equity, and firm valuation methods) and computational skills (think ROIC, WACC, and DCF). Professor Berman excels at conveying those concepts in a simple, clear, and accessible manner.

James Berman's course was the perfect introduction to corporate finance. While class participation is encouraged, Mr. Berman does not have expectations of prior knowledge from his students. He demonstrates concepts by using real scenarios and often incorporates current events. I highly encourage others interested in finance to take this course.

James is a great teacher first of all because it is clearly in love with what he does. I really appreciated the down to earth approach and the many real-life examples, it is exactly what I was looking from this course. He interacts a lot with the students, making the lessons fun and interesting.

James is a nice professor. I learned a lot in his class and enjoyed it even though I am a non-native English speaker. He always cared about students, so I was able to ask questions anytime. And we were required to give a final presentation in the class. It was useful to check how well we understood the class. I wish I could take the class longer.
