Mr Bottesch was the best science teacher I have ever had. He made the class very interesting and fun. He is also very helpful and wants his students to do well. I DEF recommend him, hes the best teacher.

Exuberant and entertaining. Bravo! Lots of laughs along with the lectures! I always looked forward to going to this class. Lots of details and note taking but still a great teach. Take all notes and study em for the tests. Apply what u know theory.

Excellent professor! Science courses are usually hard for me to grasp, but Dr. Bottesch is very good at making difficult concepts easy to understand. I did have to hustle in his class and take notes, but as long as you work hard he'll give you every opportunity to improve your grade.

Mr. Bottesch is awesome! As long as you try he will do everything he can to help you succeed. He is always fun and entertaining and you can tell he enjoys his job. He has plenty of time for office hours for one on one help and he also always e-mails you back within a couple hours. Awesome professor. I would not recommend him if you are lazy though!

He is a very good teacher. He is always willing to help. He even offers to tutor you in math! If you don't do so well on the tests he has a lot of extra work that helps balance it out. I'm not very good in science but he deffinetly makes it as enjoyable as possible. I would recommend him to anyone.

Wonderful teacher, the tests can be hard but he grades with a curve. His lectures are interesting and he includes life examples to help with the clarity. He encourages questions and is always willing to help. He is definitely the best teacher I have this semester, he makes the class fun and interesting!

Bottesch makes the class fun and interesting. Its definatley hard work, but it is definatley worth it, and you will have a better understanding of biology after you are done. He is also very funny and very easy on the eyes.

I absolutely reccomend taking Mr. B if you have to take biology. He makes the usually boring subject of biology and makes it interesting. The tests aren't too hard and they always have curves. He gives a lot of work throughtout the semester to help boost your grade if you do not do well on tests.

I can't say enough about Mr. Bottesch. He's such a great teacher! He keeps things very interesting. Very good sense of humor. Very generous with extra credit and bonus points/curves on tests.

Awesome class. A bit long, but he made it fun. Doesn't use the textbook except for chapter reviews (and the answers are online too). Gives a lot of work, but it's mostly easy and it REALLY helps out your grade if you don't take tests well.

AWESOME TEACHER! he's hilarious & really keeps your attention...& I hate science! Tough class but you definitely learn a lot. Gives homework & worksheets...but they REALLY help. Always hands back your homework, labs and tests the next class period. I would definitely reccomend him to anyone...but you have really have to study & know the material.

He was one of the best teachers I have ever had. He gave a lot of extra work so tests didn't count as most of your grade. You must know the subject matter, but he helps out a lot. On the labs ask him the questions at the end and he'll give you every answer. He's hilarious in class and is very down-to-earth. I recommend him to everyone!!!

VERY good professor, and very helpful with everything. It is a lot of work in the class, but he keeps it as interesting as possible. Make sure you study for the exams, and take advantage of any extra credit, becuase if Biology is not your forte, like me, you will need it.

Bottesch is a great teacher. My last bio teacher basically made me want to die- he's very clear and understandable, funny, and most importantly you learn something without hating life!

Mr. Bottesch is hands down my favorite professor ever! He knows his subject very well and, even though I didn't care about biology before, he made it fairly interesting. Plus, he's funny to boot! I would definitely recommend him for anyone to take. He's very helpful as well. You do have to study, but I don't believe you could find a better teacher!

bottesch is a great teacher! he makes class fun for the most part and tells funny inappropriate stories when he gets distracted. tests are kinda hard, but if you study and actually pay attention in class then you will do fine

Great Professor! He was extremely helpful whenever anyone in our class required extra help. His tests are difficult though, so be prepared to study your behind off! This was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken and I can't imagine how much more difficult it would have been without Mr. Bottesch as an instructor!

I took him for Biology and Human A & P. He uses a lot of notes and I dont recommend missing to many classes. Attendance is needed for a good grade because there are no notes like your own. He is extremely helpful and very nice and I would recommend him

HE is the best teacher around. I felt like i understood biology a hole lot better with him. I recomend everyone take him for gen bio and a and p he is so funny and he knows what he is talking about. But he does not let you go home early!!!

Excellent teacher. Tells fun, interesting stories and explains concepts thoroughly. Gives outlines for each chapter and you can choose to fill them in through the lectures - highly recommend as they are all you need to study for his tests. Tests are difficult, usually 75 questions but he grades on a curve. Textbook only used for chapter quizes.

Dr.B is awesome! I LOVE him. He is such a wonderful teacher. His class was sooo much fun and I learned more than I ever thought I was capable of, because he is that great of a teacher :] He cares about his students and he is just such a nice guy. I took Bottesch for Gen. Biology. He was one of the greatest teachers I've had! His tests are HARD but no impossible. I made an A in the class. I would recommend him to anyone pursuing a science related degree because although you'll work your butt off, you'll be preapared and even ahead in most if not all follwing science classes

I have taken Bio I, Biotech I, and A&P I, with Prof. Bott. He is an entertaining yet, informative professor. He's lectures are well planned, interesting, and artfully delivered. He makes himself available to help struggling students and gives oodles of extra credit; his classes are only hard if the student is lazy.

Mr. Bottesch is by far the BEST teacher at BCC. He makes the most difficult subjects very easy to understand. He's always willing to help and really has a knack for teaching. Tests are hard, but he tells you exactly what to study. I totally recomment him for ANYTHING he teaches. Mr. B is amazing! And not hard on the eyes either ;)

Mr. Bottesch is wonderful!!! yes, his tests are hard but, if you study you'll be fine. He gives lots of extra credit and homework is not too bad but, will help for the tests. He has four tests and a final. The final is like the tests. My favorite professor ever!. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

I would highly recommend Mr. Bottesch if you plan on taking more upper division science courses. He is a great teacher and you will learn a lot but his test are also very difficult. If you only plan on taking bio 1010 and want an easy A I would recommend taking someone else. You will have to work very hard for an A in this class.

Mr. Bottesch is the best teacher I have ever had. His exams are challenging but not impossible. Before taking his class I couldn't stand biology but now I'm considering majoring in it. I would strongly recommend this class to anyone who needs upper level science courses! He makes biology interesting, which is really hard to do.

Current and former student of Uncle Jay's Bio and A+P, LOVE his classes! Man's a sharp wit and dedicated to his job to boot. Study his notes and lectures and you'll be great, tests are a nice challenge but not bad. Oh, and yes, between the Pittsburgh accent and the looks, he is more than hot. LOVE YA MAN. Hopefully I'll get in more of your classes!

Just had him for a substitute last week. Learned more in 2 hours than I had in 2 weeks! Sharp, witty, and expertly walked is through DNA structure and function. Quite sure he is the best Biology prof at the school.

Great teacher! took him for Bio and now enrolled in his A&P. Gives great examples, explains things well, and is always willing to help. He makes jokes to keep people awake. he made my 8 O'clock interesting and fun. STUDY OUTLINES from class and you should do fine. He is one of the author for the lab manual so he knows what he's talking about!

You really want Mr. B if you want to take A&P bc you want him for A&P. I loved his classes and found him extremely helpful and interesting. He "helps" make sure you know the material really well.

Mr. B is awesome! If you are looking to slack off, do not take this professor. Had him for generial biology and the material was tough, but Mr. B made the whole class so interesting! He is always willing to help and wants all his students to pass. Great teacher and I suggest that you sign up for one of his classes!

Mr. Bottesch was very detailed and made you learn. But, the good thing was how interesting he made it. Had him for a summer course, which means nearly 3 hrs a class 4 days a week!! But he kept my attention and I had fun learning from him...just wish he taught ap 2

Best Bio professor! I had him for Bio 1. He didn't require a specif. textbook for the class-anything that's reasonably current. He tests off the lectures, so take good notes. You can't just memorize -you need to understand the material. If you don't get it, ask him! And get a good group for labs and check the write-ups. Do the extra credit work!

OMG Take This Professor!He gives nothing but lecture (good at it)and gives a blank outline of his lectures so u can fill it out as he talks.He repeats himself several times so everyone gets everything...BOOK NOT NEEDED.He writes his own tests from his own lectures and answers questions during the tests if you ask.Tough tho,be prepared to study.

If you're looking for an easy professor, stay away from this one. If you're looking for a professor who really cares about what and who he's teaching, is funny, and clear about what he excepts--take Bottesch. His tests kill you and make you hate him and love him at the same time but study hard and not just last minute and you'll do fine

This man is extremely intelligent, which makes him a fantastic teacher. His personality makes you swear he's in his 20's because he is so funny and laid back. Yes, the tests are hard, but if you study then you will be fine. I suggest him to everyone. He makes biology fun, and I actually look forward to going to class.

He's awesome, Makes class interesting, which means a lot. When the class is a three hour class, a boring instructor can mean a bad grade at the end of the semester. I did as many of my nursing prereqs with him as a I could!

Mr. Bottesch is an exceptional teacher. He's very clear on what he expects, he keeps you interested and entertained, and genuinely cares about the subject he teaches. His classes are not easy, and they're a lot of work, but they're worth it! I've taken 2 classes with him and look forward to taking more.

Professor Bottesch is bar far the biggest plus Eastern State has a a teacher. Bottesch is extremely knowledgeable, helpful, funny, and you can't help yourself from enjoying his class. Bottesch is not easy you better do the work he gives you and study hard. You will know your subject matter well. If you are lucky to get in his class hurry!

BEST PROFESSOR EVER. This was not an easy class but he is worth it. He is amazing. He is passionate about biology and super funny! If I had to be stuck in a science class for almost 3 hours it would definitely be with him. Study the PowerPoints and you will do well. If you want him then sign up early because his classes are in high demand!

Gret Professor, lectures a lot but they are interesting and he provides great examples. Tests are long and a little hard but they are all on lecture notes. So do take notes.

Definitely not an easy class. Have to work REALLY hard and even then an A is tough to get. Passionate about teaching, willing to help, knows his material, no book needed, in depth labs, and LOTS of work w/ graded homeworks. Looking for an easy A, not here. I wouldn't personally take him again.

Great professor, he really wants you to learn the material. I earned an A by studying each night, completing homework thoroughly and creating a study group. He also offered a very labor intensive extra credit that really can help. Hopefully he will teach more of the classes I need. Highly recommend for those who are seeking a degree in science.

He gives weekly quizes which are essentially review material for key points on the tests,he takes the best 10 out of 16 quizzes to,which allows room for error.Tests are hard, if you study the material he gives and pay attention to his lectures you will get an A.

Professor Bottesch is easily the best professor I've had so far. Before taking his class I wondered how I was going to survive Bio II. Bottesch is the answer. He makes the class fun. Great sense of humor, very knowledgeable, even lets you ask questions on the test.. Amazing. Bio II is no piece of cake, but he makes it doable!

Mr. Bottesch is the best teacher I have ever had. His lectures and notes are essential to pass the tests, because he doesn't give out study guides, but they are the best, most detailed notes you'll ever take (don't throw them away after the class ends!) He is hilarious and makes sure you really know the material, and will help you during tests.

Has hard tests. Study off of the homework. Ask questions during the test he will almost give you the answer. Loved him you will too.

Mr. Bottesch is one of my favorite teachers; he makes the subject interesting and fun to learn. He's also very kind, hilarious, and extremely approachable. With that being said, his tests are the hardest I've ever taken due to rewording of questions and no study guide. Be sure to get into a good study group if you want to pass.

Best professor, very smart and open to questions. Gives the best lectures and will make you laugh. I did not get the text, only the lab manual. Print out his notes and take notes on the side as he lectures. Study them and you will pass. A&P was the worst class ever, if I wasn't staring at him for 3 hours I would of hated it.

Mr. Bottesch is easily the best professor at EFSC. He has a powerpoint on in the background and barely uses it. He is so knowledgeable about everything he teaches, and he uses humor to help his students understand the difficult material. You'll get out of this class what you put into it, put in all your effort and you'll get your A.

Funny but heavy on lecture. Works all the way to end of class, rarely ever let go even a few minutes early. Does not use the online system.

Great ready to WORK! He give a lot of work but if you aren't a good test taker it definitely helps compensate. I would take him for every class if I could. He breaks down information that it easy to understand. Study the homework he gives! Those are basically the tests.

Prof Bottesch was a fantastic instructor for AP1, despite the course being extremely difficult. Expect to spend lots of time studying; the effort you put in will determine the grade you receive. There will be 5 lecture exams, 4 lab exams, & 10/16 quizzes for your grade. Lectures were informative & highly entertaining. Always looked forward to class

Prof Bottesch is by far the best teacher I have ever had! Work load is pretty heavy, but if you get it done and work hard, you'll benefit. I always recommend his classes to friends. He is very knowledgeable about everything he teaches and makes it relatable to students as much as he can; he also makes class fun with his humor.

This professor is without a doubt as passionate about science as he is his students success. His classes are thought provoking, challenging, entertaining and inspirational. If you want any career related to the sciences you will truly benefit from taking his classes. Be prepared to work hard for the vast amount of knowledge he will bestow upon you.

I would definitely recommend this professor. He explains the material thoroughly, doesnt require you to buy a textbook, posts the lectures online, and helps guide you in the right directions on tests. Plus he makes lectures interesting and lively (doesnt read off of the slides and uses plenty of in-depth examples).

Professor Bottesch is the best teacher I have ever had in all my years of high school and college. He will keep your attention and tells you facts about the subject you are learning that you will not forget. He does give homework and quizzes, but I liked that because it prepares you for the tests. The best professor I have ever had. Financial Aid didnt want to cover this class but Ive had him before so I paid out of pocket just to have him again. He explains everything well, and keeps it interesting in the process! And wants to help you if you need it, he truly cares.

Best science professor ever. Lectures are interesting and he's very funny. Lots of stories with J. Bottesch. Be sure and "follow". And if he says "big star"? It's on the test. Always willing to help during office hours and answers emails regularly. You really can't ask for more from a professor. Do your work and you will be fine.

He helped me find my love for biology. he is so inspiring and insightful. he truly is the best professor ive ever had and ill never forget his class. he pushes you to your potential just gotta work with him. study from your hw/labs for bio, and for ap1-quizzes and notes, ask questions during tests if your stuck! its hard but not impossible.

We had 5 tests, lots of HW/labs + easy final project. No study guide for tests so you must study notes you take + his lecture notes. He really is very intelligent but every now and then he throws an erroneous fact out that makes you wonder (like earth's population is only 4 billion people). He usually adds a couple extra points to each test grade.

He was such an enjoyable professor! His lectures really make the subject come to life. Normally lectures are rather boring, but bottesch tells great stories and makes you laugh. He was very knowledgeable and that made it so much more interesting. He allows you to ask questions while taking exams, but people rarely take advantage of this!

He's the best teacher ever, I wish I could take him for all my classes. He is very funny and cares about your grade. He makes sure you understand the criteria. Easy grader. As long as you pay attention youll get an A

Prof. Bottesch is great (and hilarious)! He is incredibly knowledgable and you can tell he is really passionate about teaching. This class isn't easy but if you show up, pay attention, and study then you will be fine. I wish he posted grades on Canvas but that's the only negative I can think of. Oh, and he doesn't teach A&P II which is a bummer!

One of the best professors Ive ever encountered! A&P is a hard class but Bottesch is a treasure trove of knowledge and makes the material interesting. Read his outlines thoroughly and keep up with the material & youll do fine. His personality makes the otherwise very dry class entertaining.

His lectures are great and very theatrical. He lectures the whole class time and you'll never leave early. Doesn't mind that much if you're late and doesn't take attendance. Theres take home hw and take home written tests. The test are probably the hardest test I have taken but very doable. I used his lecture notes & text book for the tests

I learned soooo much about bio that I never knew before. Not exactly an easy A, at least, with his online class. However, he is for sure a great professor.

A little sarcastic but super fun guy. Lots of weird facts but I definitely feel like I learned from his class. Gives extra credit. I found that I had a hard time with his tests and filling out the labs. I didnt have a textbook so that mightve helped. He also doesnt use canvas so Im still not sure what my grade is but overall if you studypass

There is a lot of work that goes along with the class, but he offers an extra credit project. For tests, study the outline of notes that he posts on canvas in advance. When the pandemic hit, he was very easy to get ahold of outside of class. He made the effort to posts pre labs onto YouTube which was helpful. student would be lucky to take him.

Prof. Botteschs class kinda slaps lowkey. It was mad hard and I ended up not doing so well. He tends to go brazy sometimes though so its lit.

One of my favorite professors, this was a class i genuinely enjoyed attending. He is very funny and an amazing teacher. You will have to study and work for it because it isn't the easiest class, but as long as you do that you will pass! I wish he taught anatomy 2.

Great prof! I enjoyed the class but it is a LOT to learn and the material is rough he tries to make it as smooth as possible. Reviews for each Ch then tested on. Labs and lab exams. Will drop the lowest grades for some things has a final project and provides an option for extra credit at end of class COMPLETE THE ENTIRE EXTRA CREDIT!

Beware if he says "Big star" before something 99% of the time it'll be on the test. He wants to see you do well in his class but you also have to put forth the effort. Studying is a must but overall 10/10 would take his class again.

Professor Bottesch is super funny and makes everything interesting. He does have hard exams and essays that take time so get ready to read. Try not to miss a class because his lectures relate closely to the exams. He canceled our final exam so that was good. If he says big star immediately write it down because that means it is important.

Prof. Bottesch is easily the most intelligent prof I have ever had and his wealth of knowledge is incredible. He teaches a range of courses, I took him for Biotech 1. Labs were a large portion of the class as well as a legal lab notebook. He wants you to learn and succeed. He is hilarious, a bit out of pocket for some. Will be taking again. 15/10

I can not reccomend him enough! Literally the best teacher/prof i have ever had. Lectures are long but he makes it easy to understand and is willing to work with you. He teaches very well but you still need to study on your own and try. he explains things so well and gives you examples to remember things by. Also hilarious and really nice! TAKE HIM

The classes were a lot of fun, he is pretty funny. I took him for genetics and immunology. The homework is multiple choice with some written responses. The exams are pretty difficult, all written responses, they need to be detailed, take home and you have a week to complete them. There is one research paper required.

Took him for A&P 1 and he was great! You learn a lot with his lectures. Every-time he says "Big Star" make sure you star it!!! He tells you first hand what will be on the test. Be prepared to have a quiz almost every week.

I've taken Mr. Bottesch for several sciences courses and he is great. Always gives explicitly clear guidelines and expectations for assignments so there is no confusion and is a fair grader. His tests and homework assignments can be intimidating and usually require short essay responses but he allows for many resources and gives good feedback.

Professor Bottesch is an excellent and intelligent professor. Lectures were entertaining and relatable with his lessons from Uncle J. There are 5 multiple-choice tests that you MUST study for. He was helpful during labs and was always willing to answer questions. There is one short paper and an unknown report but he gave specific requirements.

Professor Bottesch is the GOAT of the EFSC science department. He made lectures entertaining and exciting to attend. His tests are a great summary of what he teaches in class and he doesn't throw curve balls.

Professor Bottesch's class is challenging but engaging. His lectures are theatrical, and the exams require detailed written responses. Staying on top of readings and using resources like unstuck study can really help. Overall, a rewarding experience.

Bottesch is absolutely amazing. This is my second time taking a course with him and I would love to take another but sadly it's graduation time. My recommendation to everyone is to register for as many courses with him as possible to ensure you get the knowledge and understanding that you need.

I wish I could have taken him for all of my science courses. He shows a very clear and thorough understanding of everything he teaches. He does not have to read off his power points, he just knows what he is talking about. Very funny and engaging lectures and I actually feel like I'm learning! He is amazing and I would take him again and again.

Been taking his classes for years. Bottesch imo is one of the best professors at efsc. Take him for Genetics and Cell bio (tests are take home). He does have a lot of book work to do, but if you do it all, you'll avg. a B. He is accessible through outlook- and don't be afraid of his stature or attitude! He is understanding and a great guy. 10/10!

He is a great professor and also always has jokes ! He is very clear and detailed when he is lecturing and he is very helpful if asked questions AT ANY TIME!!! I definitely would say you need to study and pay attention while he is talking because you will need to know for the exams.

Amazing professor, he really does know what he's talking about. the way he teaches is also very effective. Very lecture and lab heavy class, but it does become easier! it's easy to do good in this class, but pretty difficult to earn and maintain an A because he does grade a little harsh but understandable! i was always excited to come to class.

He is a good professor however when it comes to his quizzes and tests, they aren't worded the same as he makes you write them in your notes. So he can be a little confusing if you don't actually know the information rather than just trying to memorize it.

I've never written a professor review before, but I absolutely will for Professor Bottesch. He's one of the best professors I've ever had. He's hilarious and made long 2.5-hour lectures enjoyable with jokes. He made learning fun and kept my attention. I'll be taking him again for micro in the spring. :)
