I think James is a great teacher. It seems to me that he's still trying to get the hang of how to teach and give quizzes and stuff, but he's really fun, he explains the material well, and he even shows video clips of movies that relate like CSI, The Incredibles.... He's good.
he is a great teacher. he is young. he teaches the subject clearly. he also uses power point for his lectures which you can access on webct. this class requires study time for quizzes and tests- they are pretty difficult. attendance doesn't matter.
Young teacher still learning how to teach. No homework but the tests and quizes arnt easy. the average test score was about 55% for most tests, but he gades on a curve
The Class was not easy although, he did grade on a curve that made it really nice.
Go to class and you will know what will be on the tests. He gives you powerpoint slides on webct that outline what he will be testing on.
He is a very good teacher. He only teaches what is going to cover on the test, plus after every chapter he gives clues on the topics that you need to study. Also the final test was so easy. He gave clues about the final and if you study those clues you will have a 100%. He is one of the best Bio teacher. I will strongly recomend him.!!!!!
James is a nice enough guy, but seems about as excited about Biology as a Canadian on the Fourth of July. His lectures are at best mind-numbing, and his tests impossible. Class average for the last test--52%. I studied 35+ hours for it, and landed a 54. Don't let good ratings fool you like they did me. They're far from true.
Good teacher he is nothing amazing and is really young, but teaches the concept well, He puts his PowerPoint presentations on WebCT so that helps. The tests are really hard though so make sure you study!!! He curves all the tests though so that helps. The grade is based on 4 tests and 1 final exam.
He is nice enought but he doesnt test on what he teaches I would never recomend people taking a class from him he always gave me the impression that he didnt like his job and that we dint deserve his tallents as a professor
Great teacher he cares about your grade and wants you to do good. You have to actually study but if you do its not a hard class. He does a review and pretty much tells you what is on the test.
It was a straight forward class. Just study the power points and whatever he tells you to and you will do fine. He had the highest test score of any of the biology 1010 classes. He will go out of his way to help you learn anything that does not make sense. He loves what he teaches so it is not too boring.
Dr. Bradshaw is so smart. I think he should be teaching at a medical school! He is too intense for anyone taking 1010. We never had any assignments and in my opinion it was detrimental to my grade.
Teaches straight out of the book. Tests aren't too bad, just study. Not the greatest professor I have had but definitely up there. No assignments, 4 tests and the final are the basis of the grade. Curves the grades. Very knowledgeable and quite interesting. RECOMMENDED.
Grade out of only 5 tests, questions on test are to understand. To get good grades you must show up to class.
Didn't teach well at all, he covers way to much material in a 1010 course
James is a great guy, and very approachable and knowledgable. Your grade is directly effected by your test grade. There are no assignments just tests and as long as you study what he lectures on, you'll do fine. Very concerned about the students' success. Fairly easy class if you understand the material.
Mr. Bradshaw is very knowledgeable and he is a fairly good teacher but the curriculum is intense for just a basic 1010 class. There are NO assignments, just rather challenging tests. His classes grades are actually fairly low I think. Not really a bad teacher but if you are going for an easy A or have to miss class, he's not the guy for you.
This teacher is the biggest liar! He kept saying not to worry, there was a curve and everything would be alright. His tests were hard and had nothing to do with the class. The only thing he grades are the tests. He is the worst, most dishonest person I've ever met.I tried to get help but he shined me on 4x. He does not care about his students.
Great teacher, fun class and really helpful.
GREAT TEACHER! His tests are a little challenging, but as long as you attend class and print off his notes and go to the review sessions you'll be fine! He is one of the best teachers Ive had at UVSC. I would HIGHLY recommend him. He is always will to help anyone and give them tutoring. He's lessons are fun and not boring.
He is very easy and clear on what is to be on the test, however you have 5 test and that is all you are graded on. If you do not do well on test, then do not take this class, i repeat do not take this class. I dont do well on test and it was hard for me even though he was clear on what was to be on it. But he is a good teacher.
Brad is a way cool teacher he really knows what he's talking about. He had powerpoints of his lectures that are really helpful! He is way easy if you study his lectures.
This class is already hard at UVSC, so I just wanted to get by and get this class over with. But Bradshaw made it interesting, and though it was a challange I would NEVER take it from anyone else.
Pretty tough, he is extremely clear, test are the only things that count, doesn't take attendence, works with athletes
If you have to take this class the best person to take it from is bradshaw. He tells you what to study for and thats whats on the test or final. His class isn't easy, but he tells you what you need to konw and thats all he tests you on. There arn't any trick and he doesn't try to fool you. This is the simplest person to get an A from for ZOO 1090.
Do your self a favor and take this class from Bradshaw! He is an amazing teacher! He explains things VERY clear and you will know exactly what will be on the test! All you have to do is go to class and study and you will for sure get an A! I got an A in the class and trust me if I can get an A anyone can get an A if they put for a little effort!
I took the class in the summer so it was a lot easier compared to the regular school year class. He would just tell us what to study for tests, so we wouldn't have to over-study the whole chapter. Great teacher!! I can't believe I passed the class with a B. A few nursing students passed with an A or A-. Great teacher!!
Great class! Doesn't require you to go to class but it helps to go. He explains things very well in his lectures and makes sure everyone understands. He moves pretty quickly though so it helps if you read the chapter before class. Also he helps prepare you for the tests by telling you where to spend most of you time studying and what to expect.
Dr. Bradshaw is an outstanding teacher. His lectures are really interesting and he arranges his tests to fit his lectures. So although attendance is not mandatory, you better attend lol. I would highly recommend him.
His tests are nothing like his lectures. i always go to the tests feeling completly prepared bc i studied all the info he told us would be on there and I ALWAYS struggle with them. He is very smart and often speaks over our heads a bit as well, makes things sound more complicated than they are. He also spends tons of time on the simple stuff.
i understand everything in class, study hard and read the book. But then I get to the test and feel like I had never stepped foot into the classroom.
This class was based totally on test scores. So if you're not a good test taker, DON'T take him. Things like attendance and homework were not there to cushion your grade. He would give us test reviews, but the test questions were not always from that review. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER FOR BIOL 101
I hated this professor because of his strictness on retaking a test so if you plan on going on vacation when there is a test there is no way he'll let you. The tests were a little tricky but he tells you what will be on them. If you're a good test taker than take him.
I've started a few biology classes and this is the only one I've gotten through. If you've been to any other biology classes, you'll know that he is a great teacher. He puts his powerpoints online, and doesn't have any homework. All of the other people posting must have only been to Bradshaw's class-sit in on anyone else, and you'll come back :)
Go to class, listen, and take some notes, and study his Power point slides and your sure to get an A. PS Review days are a must. He tells you what will be on the test. Good Teacher easy class.
I loved this class. Dr. Bradshaw explains things so well, and he tells you what types of questions to expect on the tests, and exactly the types of answers he expects on the worksheets. Very helpful. He'll answer any questions on concepts you're unsure about. Study hard, and use the notes he provides in class.
Prof. Bradshaw was an excellent teacher. He was very clear and explained things well. I'm not a good test taker, but in his reviews he goes over EVERYTHING on the test and even gives you some answers. Pay attention and study his powerpoints and you can't go wrong.
Dr. B. is awesome. I took the block 1 summer course that goes over the same material in half the time. Dr. B. goes over ALL of the material that will be on the tests (any contrary ratings were from people who weren't paying attention). BIO is a hard class, and you will actually have to *gasp* study! Highly recommended. Go to the test reviews!
Anatomy is difficult as it is. His test are fill in the blank but the comprehensive final was multiple choice. MUST go to class for quizes and MUST study hard. Im not a good test taker but I studied hard and I should pass with a b- very very hard. He is very clear on what is going to be on the test (take a tape recorder) helps tons hardest
Dr. Bradshaw is a great professor. He tells you exactly what he will test you on and is very clear and understandable when teaching.. BIO 1010: If you study the test reviews and know definitions of terms, you will pass.
A great teacher to have. He enjoys teaching and is willing to admit he doens't know the answer to students questions but is also willing to look up the answer for next time. Pay attention in class take notes, read the chapters and go to the test reviews and you'll be fine. Test are Mulitple choice and only 50 questions. A very interesting class! :D
Horrible Teaching Skills. He goes way too fast. He tells you what to study for the test but, his questions are confusing. No extra credit, no homework, no assignments. Nothing to improve your score.
This teacher is not a good teacher by any means. He goes so fast that you couldn't even type fastest enough to keep up with him. He doesn't care how his students do and thinks that seventy percent is a good grade. He will openly admitt that his class average on test is 65. He refuses to grade on a curve,he trys to trick you, tests are written poorly
He is a good teacher. But his tests are not easy. You will have to study hard. But we are in college
Unless you were blessed by God with a very high intelligence level and/or a photographic memory, run from this class. Tests are insanely difficult. I've averaged 7+ study hours/test and average 60's. I'm a junior and it's been the hardest class ive taken... but maybe this is all just me. He's a good guy though. Just a heads up.
this is the 2nd time i have taken the class. he is very hard. he knows his stuff and always reviews the previous lesson, pay attention. the first time i had another teacher and was absolutely horrible. you will have to work hard with bradshaws class. STUDY THE POWERPOINTS! that is why he makes them available, because the tests are taken from them.
A very straight presentation class, lots of PowerPoint. He knows the content, and goes through everything. If you're there on the days he reviews for the exams and study what he goes over, you should be able to get a B pretty easily. Be in class every time. Final grade in the class is based on tests, so study for them well.
This class is based on tests ONLY. If you are not a good test taker then take it from another teacher. He definitely knows his stuff. Attendance is not mandatory but you need to go every time in order to get a good grade on the tests. I missed a view classes and got the lowest grade on that test.
Don't take this teacher.. He rambles off the subject quite often in class, he doesn't use the book. Only his power points which he puts online. He's not too willing to help his students. He makes his tests extremely hard. He even told me he experiments with his classes and there tests every semester. He doesn't explain things well at all. Watch out
I really really liked this teacher, I took him during the summer and although I didn't get a good grade (my fault) I understood biology so much more because of him! I thought it was interesting and he made me want to learn more about it! The tests are seriously hard, and you have to study study study, but he is a good teacher overall
Good teacher, you must read the book to pass this class. I got an A and did 90% of the required readings. The tests are directly from class talks, and the reading. You must attend to pass this class.
Bradshaw is an awsome teacher he is very busy but always had time to help me understand a subject. If you take good notes and go to class you should do well.
Bradshaw was seriously an amazing teacher. All you need to do is read the sections of the book. He even has his own notes that you can use which helps too. Attendance is not mandatory but I would advise going anway. He practicaly gives you the test questions at the end of each section but you have to show up. It is really up to you how well you do.
Teacher was pretty good, but can be very boring at times. Took during the summer, large mistake. There was no homework only graded on tests. I had a tutor and still didn't pass the class the second time.
The first day of class he tells you the class average is a 64. I'm not a D student but 2 out of 4 tests I've taken I have gotten a 64. (and yes for all the nay sayers I did study). BIO is a hard class as is, but the numbers don't lie. He's a nice guy, but I will probably re-take this class to get a better grade.
...Very confusing when it comes to take his tests. Class avg. for every test is about 60 to 64%. No homework to get better, no extra credit to improve grade. I have to re take class to get higher grade but I WILL avoid taking it from him.
Hear is the problem with this guy: he dummifies the material durring class (put it in laymans terms) so you understand it, but when it comes time to the test, the test are written in such a manner that you have to have amazing reading comprehension skills to understand them.
Interesting how there are alot of people who talk about the low class averages, but then some of you say that he was awesome. Must be from the few who actually made a good grade. Trust me, he's a bad teacher.
Professor Bradshaw is awesome! I had to take the class, and was NOT excited for it. I hated BIO1010, and I really hated the genetics unit. However, he is really easy to learn from and is reliable. He is also great about letting you come to his office and is very nice about questions. I am even thinking of changing my major because of him.
Professor Bradshaw is very knowledgeable about genetics and is willing to work with you. His tests can be hard, but if you study like you do for any other class, you will do just fine.
Good teacher, tough class, study and you will be fine. He gives you his slides to work with and take notes from during lectures.
This class is a killer and I think he tries to make it as simple as he can without reducing the amount of information you need to know. He's really good about letting students come to his office for help.
Awesome teacher. Would absolutely recommend. He uses lots of videos and animations that are extrememly helpul. Hes very entertaining and funny as well.
Dr. Bradshaw prides himself on the fact that his students average a "C" in his class. He teaches the class like you are a Bio major and already know and understand the material. There is no homework, so you are graded only on tests. He purposely words the tests in such a way as to confuse you. I have to retake this class. I DON"T recommend.
He expects a lot out of you on the tests. No other assignments make up your final grade, so don't bomb any of them like I do. He is a smart guy, but for a generals biology I think he needs to ease up on the grading.
I took this class Distance Ed. It's considered the "most failed Distance ed course." they were sure right. This was the hardest class I have taken so far. The tests are incredibly difficult. I studied and still did very poorly. He's a nice guy and very smart...but the class is SO hard. If you're good at Bio, you'll be fine.
This was my worst class ever! I learned nothing, he doesn't really teach anything! This is probably the most non-passed biology class. It was horrible!
He is a great teacher. He really want's you to learn not just memorize facts and regurgitate. Best recomendation with him is to take a voice recorder and take your notes from that. He is very specific with his questions. It's only an easy A if you attend and pay attention.
Bradshaw is a great teacher. The tests are nearly exlusively drawn from his powerpoints, which he conveniently puts online. He is willing to answer any questions, and welcomes them. He is happy to talk to you after class or in his office. The tests are hard, but if you go to class and pay attention everyday, and study, it is easy enough to get an A
Didn't do great in this class but that was my own doing. He gives tons of examples & resources, ready to answer any questions. All the grade is based on tests alone but he'll replace your lowest grade with your final if it's better so it only helps you. Knows his stuff and he wants you to know and understand it too. He's what a teacher should be.
I feel like he goes to far in depth in this subject for non-majors. He also said he curves his tests for the average to be a C, but our classes average was below and C and he would not curve it because one person recieved a high A. It was totally against what he said. Barely pulled a C out of this one, and it was not for lack of trying.
He will make his class harder than necessary. Bio 1010 is an entry level class, a deliberate C average should not be in effect. He is extremely pick, and I don't think he appropriately prepares you for the tests.
DO NOT take this class from him if you aren't a good test taker!(average class test scores were usually below C's-which he seems to be excited about) this is all he grades you on & does not offer any extra credit. All in all a pretty good teacher, he knows his stuff. But I'll probably have to re-take this class.
I cant say enough good about Bradshaw. People who whine about this class arent putting in the effort required (which isnt that much). Go to every class, every tutor session, study powerpoints before tests and youre set. He stayed 15 min after on many times to help me with concepts. And hes a great lecturer, he makes you enjoy bio! I got an A-
This man makes Biology 1010, an entry-level, general education class far too difficult. He's proud of the fact that few students earn higher than a C. I studied for HOURS for his tests and still struggled. Nice guy, but I do not recommend him.
He is by far one of the greatest teachers I've had. He is hard though because his tests are hard. For example, I studied 4 hours and still only got a C+. He expects you to be in class to participate with a clicker, but that's all for your own advantage. He's good, just be prepared to study hard.
Professor Bradshaw is smart no doubt about it. However, he is not a good teacher. A teacher requires the ability to pass onto others the knowledge you possess. He lacks in this department. He is not clear in his teachings especially for a general course. 70% of us are failing. Our only hope is he grades on a curve. We're crossin our fingers.
This teacher is awful! When a class average for a test is 60% and he seems to pride himself in students failing. I'm going to have to retake this class. Don't waste money on this teacher!
Good teacher, hard tests. Good curve though.
This professor was extremely frustrating. Before the first test the whole class was confident but once the average on that test was a 62% everybody felt tricked. He explains nothing like he should for a general course and his tests are hard. He also does not work with you at all either. The one pro? The curve is huge because most everyone fails
Tests were extremely hard. He tried to sound smart the whole class and confused everyone. Our class average on all the tests were F's. He tries to trick you on all his tests. This class was awful.
This teacher was not a good teacher. His average on tests are about a D. There are no other assignments besides tests. Way too hard for a 1010 class and I still didn't learn much.
This class requires a lot of effort. I easily spent the most time on this class at first. It's important to know HOW to study and WHAT to study so you don't spend hours of worthless studying. Use the class quizzes to make up your study guide. ATTEND EVERY CLASS. Take notes, detailing the examples he uses. It requires work, but it's VERY rewarding!
His class was hard for just 1010, but he made his own outlines that would be on the test, so it made it worth it... plus the curve helped, he curves everyone up ten points at the end of semester.... take Bradshaw and you'll be fine
I actually enjoyed Bradshaw. He explains concepts very clearly. His tests are not easy, but I was able to get an A. The one tricky thing is the online quizzes--although the quizzes are easy & open-note, he doesn't remind you when they are. Also sometimes I felt like he was condescending to the class & wanted to prove how smart he was.
Good at giving lectures. Bad powerpoints. Make sure to take a recording device and listen to his lectures. Tests are hard, but are worth it. If you want an easy biology class DO NOT take this one! I love it though.
Bradshaw is probable the ONLY teacher that has it together at this school!! He teaches exactly what you need to know for tests (quizes, he calls them) and then gives life examples to remember it. I didnt even buy the book and aced his class cuz he is so clear. The only catch is you HAVE to go to class if you want to know whats going on
Very clear, you know the expectations, he's a great teacher.
Bradshaw is boss, dope, dynamite, and what not. His grading is legit, and his lectures are totes bad (good). For real, he is my favorite lecturer at UVU. If you're not attending his lectures just for the sake of learning the material as well as possible, you don't deserve to be in his class, but attend anyway since he teaches the test.
James Bradshaw is one of the best professors I have ever had. His lectures are great. Attendance is key in his class even though it is not mandatory. He will give you 80% of the test questions so you know what to expect. Whoever says this class is too hard for a BIOL 1010 class simply did not go to class, did not take notes, and did not study.
He does not give homework or tests EVER. The only work you have is one 10 question quiz per lecture (done at home on your own time)and he gives you basically every answer. If you attend each class and write down everything he tells you will be on the quiz, then it is an easy A. The final is also a quiz, but 20 questions. This guy is rad.
Great guy. Funny and pretty easy to listen to. He puts all his quizzes and outlines online and he goes over every type of question you'll get on your quiz with the class. Really easy to fall behind because he doesn't remind you out the quizzes.
Class is super easy. No hw or tests, just weekly 10 question quizzes that are open note. I missed several classes and still did fine because he does everything online. I personally was able to get through everything without the book (he never mentioned it in class), but you may be different. It was a fun, straight forward class.
Interesting class, tricky quizes. Final was a joke.
This professor is a must have!!! You don't need the text book as long as you attend class, take good notes, and review the slides. There are NO TESTS only 10 question quizzes and the final is a 20 question quiz all online. Bradshaw is super funny too and makes Biology enjoyable to the max! You can't ask for a better professor!
Being someone who knows absolutely nothing and doesn't care about biology he was awesome and I enjoyed going to class. Don't be fooled though the quizzes are really hard but he drops 3 and curves them. If you go to class and take good notes you will be fine. I did not use book but it would have been helpful.
What an amazing professor! Very hard grader, though. I got a C+ when I should've had better. Many quizzes throughout the entire semester, and a tougher than heck final. All open-book but not enough time to really find the answers. Better make sure you come to class! Some questions specifically are on the test.
If you are looking to pass a Biology class I would take it from him! He is a very good teacher. There are open book online quizzes each week that aren't too hard. You get points for coming to class and answering the clicker questions. He is very clear on what information you will be tested on. He repeats concepts if you don't fully understand them.
Great professor! He's funny and respectful. Also, very knowledgeable and loved his lectures. No tests, no homework, only weekly quizzes and the final that are both open book and notes. Participation points count so go to class with your "response clicker" thing to get those points. He tells you what to study for quizzes, but they are still hard.
I absolutely hated Biology before I took this class. Bradshaw is awesome. He is very relaxed but he was also super willing to help students. His lectures are straightforward and for once in my life I actually understand bio. If you don't go to the lectures you will fail, but he makes them interesting. Made it SUPER easy to understand the subject.
Is open book but it can be hard 'sometimes', because what we cover in class is then converted into hypothetical questions, meaning the examples can be similar to what we saw in class but with other organs, or uses scenarios. Only one try to quiz. Read the chapter before class to be successful in class and come to get points for participation!
He does require you to come to class to learn but if you need to miss class he posts the lectures on line to help to students get caught up. Give everyone a clear understanding of what is on every quiz, he only requires quizzes in the class. Not a hard class.
I think he was a great teacher. He recorded his lectures and uploaded them on line. He went over test questions in class. He gives you a copy of all of his power points and even guided notes at the very beginning of the semester. He has a Quiz after every lecture-not a test and they are only 10 questions long. I would take him if BIO is hard for u
I loved this class, but I didn't do very well in it. Bradshaw is an amazing professor and his lectures are extremely interesting. There are quizzes after every lecture and I wasn't entirely sure what the questions were asking, so I was a bit confused. Bradshaw is a great guy and he's willing to help with any questions you might have.
Bradshaw is extremely knowledgeable, but this is way too hard for a general ed class. I spent 10-15 hours a week studying and barely got an A. The online quizzes are extremely difficult and they are filled with tricky questions. Your entire grade is based on your quizzes and you only have 30 minutes. Great teacher, really bad teaching model.
I found the class really interesting. I only found it difficult because the whole grade is based off of your quiz scores and they were quite challenging. I didn't get an A but I learned a lot and I needed to spend more time studying I just didn't so make sure you are ready for the quiz.
Every lecture you have a quiz. He drops three. You have a final he reviews for. He makes it pretty clear what you need to know. However, the quiz for every lecture is extremily hard to understand,
Quizzes are badly written and grades are based off of quizzes only. There is partial immediate feedback and students need to ask to know which answers were incorrectly answered. Students receive their scores after submitting quizzes, but there's no way to know which questions were correct/wrong.
I loved Professor Bradshaw! He was very helpful and willing to work with you. You have to attend class and take notes from his slides and lectures because that is where all of the quiz and test questions come from. Never really used the book. His quizzes and tests are a fairly difficult but if you study, you will do fine. Has dry humor and wit!
AMAZING teacher! I would recommend him to anyone! There are 19 quizzes and a final. He drops the 3 lowest quiz grades. Don't miss class as the quizzes are based on his lectures! I got a B because I forgot to take 2 quizzes but you CAN get a A. He goes fast, is super well organized and very helpful. If you work you will pass and learn a lot :)
Lectures every class, quiz online after every class (open book, open note, 30min) If you take notes of the lecture/ pay attention, no way to fail. HIGHLY recommend taking. Final at the end of semester was online, open book/open note. East 'A' for real. Lectures are also recorded on Canvas if you miss anything so really... Just pay attention (:
Somewhat easy class. 19 lectures over the semester, and a quiz after every one on Canvas. His lectures are okay, but he can go on tangents here and there so he gets behind. Just show up and pay attention and you should do fine.
No homework. Grade received by the quiz you took after each lecture. Make sure you take detail notes in class. Textbook is optional, basically, all the quiz questions are from his lecture, so be in class. I spent average 2 hours to study the note for each quiz. Bradshaw is a great lecturer, you won't feel bored. I learn a lot in his class.
Really sets the standard for Lectures. He delivers in a way thats clear, concise, but also entertaining; He's especially good if you have Zero knowledge of biology coming into this class because he'll teach you in ways that are easy to understand and memorable. Listen to him, take decent notes, and youll do really well. He'll happily work with you!
I am taking this class at a different location not at UVU.I recommend taking the course live& not over a tv. your grade is based on 19 quizzes and he drops the 3 lowest. his lectures are pretty intense, he just keeps going& doesn't stop. I wish he would give examples/ a better way to learn the concepts. you really have to study hours for this class
Good lecturer and very funny. The format of his class is extremely simple and well planned out. If you want a C or B, all you need to do is take notes on his lectures, if you want an A, get ready to do some studying.
Dr. Bradshaw is great! He really teaches the basics of Biology and goes through everything in a way that is very understandable. He does 10 question quizzes after every lecture that he prepares the class well for. They help your grade and help for the final! Don't miss class! You won't pass the quizzes with just the textbook.
Great class, I wish he had more homework assignments that would be on the tests. But overall, the information in the lectures are pretty solid, attendance isn't mandatory but you'll probably want to show up because his lectures help for the tests.
First off, he's "hella" hilarious sometimes! Seriously though, hes a pretty good professor! Your grade is based off 19 quizzes and a final, he drops three lowest quizzes. Quizzes can be tough, but if you take good notes, you should be fine! Make sure to go to class, cause just the book wont do! Also after every lecture he as a mini quiz review!
This man is amazing! You never have homework because you complete the work during lab and it's really simple. You will have quizzes that are due before lab but are easy and not time consuming. He's not one of those egotistical professors that treats their 1 credit lab as a 3 credit. Choose life and take this class!
The lectures can be long but he does a great job of keeping them interesting. The grade was made up solely of chapter quiz scores but they were all online and open note/book. Attendance isn't graded but I highly suggest going as he gives hints and useful information for the upcoming quiz. The only time I used the book was when I missed a lecture.
He is an overall good teacher and knows the material well. There are around 19 lectures and each comes with its own 10 point quiz. The quizzes sound easy, but end up having very complex worded questions. There is no homework, just the quizzes. Just study and come to class to listen to the lectures.
Professor Bradshaw is a really nice guy. His class is based off 19 quizzes worth 10 points each, drop lowest 3, and a final worth 20 points. He has no homework, just a quiz every week. Quizzes aren't super hard (open not & book), but you do have to think. Since there's not a lot of points offered, you can't miss a lot either. Enjoyable Lectures.
Biology is by nature a harder subject, and if you took an easy A class for it, you'd probably find yourself struggling in any higher coursework that has Bio has a prereq. That being said, Professor Bradshaw's method makes it possible to get a good grade - as long as you're willing to put in the work.
Not the worse class but it was pretty boring because I felt like he was monotone and a bit confusing but if you really try to focus and take good notes you should be fine. Rarely used the text book, did come in handy a few times. The whole class is lectures and quizzes, no test or homework. Quizzes are tough but overall not a heavy work load.
He opens up a 3 lectures & 1 test each month, each lecture has a quiz. Each lecture has 45-90 mins of videos with the teacher talking about slides. I would strongly suggested listening to them and taking detailed notes. Hes tests are BRUTAL. The tests are FREE RESPONSE of 9-13 questions. They demand great detail, are lengthy & sometimes confusing.
Do not take BIO1010 from him. He treats it as an advanced BIO class, lectures way too much and makes it much more difficult than really should be for a GE class. Not a lot of work with 19 quizzes and 1 Final. But if you hate having to listen to lectures that don't really match the quizzes, this class is for you.
He is the best bio1010 teacher at UVU. He lectures and then quizzes on the lectures. The quizzes are online, open book, open note, 20 questions and a 30 minute time limit. There are 19 quizzes and a final and he drops the lowest 3 quiz scores. That's your grade for the class, so if you take good notes and pay attention, it's not difficult.
This class was one of the easiest this semester. Th lectures cover everything you need to know for the quizzes. Quizzes are all online and not too hard to pass if you look over your notes. Lectures are also online if you miss a day, although the in class lectures are much better.
The class consists of about 20 exams. They can be done at home, but are very very difficult and are timed, so you need to rush. Even going to class and having the slide its so hard to get a good grade.
Easy class. There is a quiz about every week, but literally no other homework. his final is just a doubled quiz. He has his lecture notes, slides, and full lectures online. You could feasibly never show up and still get an A. the quiz formats are weird to get used to but it's very doable. Be warned, his lectures nearly put me to sleep every time.
The trick to this class is retaining as much information as possible. The course can be frustrating because the 19 quizzes (he drops 3) and a short final are your only grades. This is why it is important to get as much as you can from the lecture if you want to succeed in this class. I spent between 3-4 hours a week on everything and got a solid B.
Professor Bradshaw is one of the best professors I have ever had. He has all his notes and slides available so my suggestion is to print them off and just add to them. He is clear about what will be on the quizzes. He applies everything to real life! I hated biology before this class but thanks to him I have found a new love for the subject!
For a BIO 1010 I felt it was a little more intense than it needed to be. However, I learned later on that if you follow his notes and actually prepare well in advance and use the textbook in tandem that I did a lot better. I enjoyed the way he taught class. He has lectures on YouTube.
I wish I could give this class a 4.5 out of difficulty. I struggled a lot & felt that this class is too intensive as a 1010 class. He posts all of his lectures on YouTube and has print out notes. If you really work hard you can do it! Make sure you get the textbook. Even if you go to the lecture also watch the YT videos before the quizzes. It helps
Hard class especially during summer, go to class and you will be fine.
He was a very fun teacher. Made the lectures interesting by attaching them to real world scenarios. Quizzes are based off of the things you learn IN CLASS.
I took his online course and took detailed notes from his long lecture videos, but some of the questions asked were impossible to prepare for. I am on my second attempt taking his class, so I can say this with full confidence. "Do not take this course with this professor!". I think he is inadequate at teaching.
You have a few recorded videos to watch before each quiz. The videos don't cover everything on the quizzes and he basically just talks about himself and his accomplishments. The book helps a bit, but the quizzes are ridiculous. A C- is a 70% and I'm hoping I can make that grade so I don't have to ever think about this class again.
It's a lecture based class, but he does everything he can to help his students have everything they need. Lectures are entertaining and clear. He answers and encourages questions. Records all lectures and types notes that are accessible on canvas. Stay on top of the work, study his notes and you will pass this class.
His quizzes are based off his Lectures NOT from the book. All of his lectures are online, so you are better off listening to the lectures a feew time instead of reading the books. He has a quiz for each lecture (19) and your final. That is the only homework.
He bases your grade off of 19 quizzes (he drops 3 lowest) and your final. In my opinion, he gives you every chance to succeed. The lectures can get boring, but he posts them online, both audio and the pdf. He has a written study guide for you and if you go to class, he basically tells you whats on the quiz. I'm super bad at biology and he helped.
His class was great! He puts his lectures on YouTube so you can go over any information you don't understand. He drops..I think two of your worst quiz scores? Which is nice. Most of what he says in class is mentioned on quizzes/exams, so it pays to take good notes and to try to understand the concepts he mentions.
James Bradshaw was a great professor. There are 20 lectures and a 10 question quiz on each lecture through out the whole semester. All his lectures are online. He is very nice and chill. This class was pretty easy compared to the biology classes Ive taken before. Get in his class if you can!
I LOVE Mr. Bradshaw. I was terrified to take Bio at UVU but he is easily the best teacher. Zero homework, just a ten question quiz after each lecture. He applies EVERYTHING he teaches to life and tells you why it matters. He gives you prewritten notes, recorded lectures, and all the powerpoints and you can use them on all quizzes and tests.
Easily one of the best professors I have ever had. His class is hard to get an A in; he grades purely on quizzes, and you can only miss 14 questions throughout the semester to keep an A. On the flip-side, all his quizzes are open-note, and he supplies you with plenty of material, including his own 60 pages of notes for the whole semester. Recommend
Hard to get a hold of and never in his office during his office hours. The class was online and tells you to focus on lectures rather than the books but he talks about himself during the online lectures.. Doesnt monitor cheating so distance education students are at disadvantage. In process of filing complaint due to mentioned problems.
Any student who doesn't test well shouldn't take his class.
The class is graded on 18 10 question quizzes and one 20 question final. The quizzes start easy and gradually get harder. But even then they are doable. If you go to class and take notes you'll do fine. During class he discusses what quiz questions you might get and discusses the answers. Just pay attention and go to class. Overall pretty easy.
He was hard but a good professor. He knows how to balance the class and gives you all the recourses you need to succeed, you just have to show up, take notes, and try. He was clear in what to expect but the tests are still hard, the average grade was between a C and a B in my class.
Prof Bradshaw makes Biology fun. Just take good notes and you should be fine.
If you can't pass this class then you should change your major.
he is a really smart guy. all his lectures are on youtube and his slides are all on canvas. he even has a 60 page document with important things to know about each chapter so that was nice. all quizzes and final are online. open book open notes they are timed and they are not that easy. nice guy, funny, knows his stuff and wants you to succeed.
Explains concepts very clearly. Take notes, a lot of what he says you'll see on the quizzes. 18 quizzes and a final all open note. Biology is definitely not a strong point for me and I managed to do pretty well in this class.
Bradshaw is amazing! His final is take-home and there's no homework at all. He teaches based on powerpoints and there is a canvas open-note quiz after every chapter. At the end of each chapter he tells us what's on the quiz. Expectations are really clear. If you miss class, all lectures are also online and he gives you his own notes to study from.
Bradshaw is pretty cut and dry. Super whitty guy. His lectures are as fun as learning about stuff like chemiosmaticphosphoralation can get. You technically don't have to go to class, youre whole grade is 18 ten point quizzes online. He makes them hard(ish) and quizlet wont help as he makes them himself.
Bradshaw made quizzes very clear and what should be expected from them! Every lecture he went over it in summary and gives examples as he talks that would be on the quiz! If you take VERY GOOD NOTES YOU WILL PASS THE QUIZZES!!! He was so great overall!
He was probably a below average teacher, dry lectures but always answered questions. No attendance taken, but he gives tips for the quizzes if you show up. Youre only graded off 18 10pt quizzes and 1 20pt final, so if you dont average 9 or 10 out of 10, you cant get an A. For a good grade, you gotta be a good test taker and learn a lot alone.
the whole class is lecture, quiz and the final. that it. all his lectures are on YouTube an canvas which was awesome. you never have to show if you don't want. there is a book but you don't need it. just listen to the lectures, read his notes and you will pass.
Professor Bradshaw is a very laid back, knowledgeable guy. He always goes over material before tests and write-ups. Some of the labs require write-ups and they're super easy. 4 exams are given (including final) and he goes over all the material you need to know before taking the exams. If you need a science credit, take him and this class!
This is a great upper division credit for biology major students. I learned so much in this class. It was new interestin material Dr. Bradshaw loves to hear himself talk but he's a nice guy and a great teacher. As long as you do your part and listen to the videos you will get an A. I use the book for some quiz questions that he doesn't talk about.
Dr. Bradshaw made this intro to biology class pretty cool and interesting. Even though there are about 16 different lectures, Bradshaw did a great job of going over the core concepts and reviewing for quiz questions when the lecture was finished. He's also a pretty funny guy and has a lot of informative knowledge about all the aspects of biology!
Interesting class! There's only 18 Quizzes that you can only take 30 minutes each and you're allowed 1 retake each. Take notes!! Come to class when you can! Some of the answers to his questions on the quiz didn't seem to match the things he said in class. Boring lectures, but good to have for the quizzes. Wish there was more than quizzes...
Class was really hard, it is nice that there are no assignments, but that means your whole grade are the online quizes. The questions for the quizes are very difficult and it seems like he is sometimes trying to trick you. If you go to all the lectures and take good notes you can get an A.
I really liked the professor, he gave you all the tools to pass. There were only quizzes, but you could retake them. And he would teach the lesson in class, give you the powerpoint, and a doc with notes already in it, let you ask questions, and then open the quiz right after. I usually hate quizzes, but could easily pass.
I think this class was the most difficult that I have taken so far, but having an instructor who is passionate about teaching it made it so much easier. Make sure you actually know the concepts and examples. read the book, and ask him questions because he will answer them usually right away.
This class was absolutely wonderful to me. The entire class was a series of lectures in which you were expected to take good notes, then a small straightforward quiz after every lecture, and a few graded discussion posts where you had to apply the science to something in everyday life. As someone who generally dislikes Biology, I adored this class.
RECORD LECTURES AND BE FAMILIAR WITH WHAT HE SAYS AND YOU'LL GET AN A. LISTEN TO THEM EACH A FEW TIMES JUST BEFORE TESTS AND MAKE SURE YOU'RE LISTENING. PROBABLY THE SIMPLEST FORMAT I'VE EVER DEALT WITH. SUCH A RELIEF. HARD BECAUSE THERE'S A LOT OF MATERIAL, BUT IT'S CLEAR WHAT YOU'RE TESTED ON. AGAIN, RECORD HIS LECTURES AND LISTEN SEVERAL TIMES.
A professor whose lectures aren't boring and are directly relevant to the quizzes that you take? Say it ain't so! The quizzes directly correlate to the lectures so paying attention actually pays off. The textbook is useless for this class so don't get it. Missing assignments can seriously mess your grade up, so turn in everything or else!
This class was online due to COVID so all the lectures were prerecorded. He teaches really well, but it is a lot of material to learn. The lecture videos are often 45 min - over an hour long. You MUST watch the lecture videos to pass the quizzes! You are only graded on quizzes and easy discussion posts for each chapter. The quizzes really do matter
he uploads a review video for every quiz, so you cant get a bad score unless u aren't watching them! The final review was a life saver! Just try not to miss any of the quizzes they're worth 72% of ur final grade. he doesn't put 0's in until the very end of the semester, so if you're missing anything, expect your grade to drop..
His lectures are long, but helpful. They helped me with his quizzes. Homework is scarce, so if you miss any assignments your grade will tank. Quizzes are on a semi-consistent schedule. He was definitely professional in his demeanor. I would recommend him to someone interested in biology.
Dr. Bradshaw was awesome. He is very clear on what you need to know and study. He doesnt make you learn all the small little things. He is very enthusiastic about the subject material and I enjoyed this class a lot. Theres a lot of material which makes it kind of a heavy class; however, Bradshaw makes it as easy as possible. I highly recommend.
He taught just past the date students can drop the class, after that no single class, not even online streaming, although the class was supposed to be face to face. Out 3 labs we were supposed to have we only had 1, and all the tests and exams were based on those, so you had to understand the details of the lab you never had. I would call it scam.
another professor took over his class but we still followed his class structure and used his lectures so ima leave a review. lectures were long but not too bad. i used them like podcasts. was always clear what was on quizzes. quizzes were everything plus an easy discussion post every module. never touched the textbook. overall 7/10 would take again
The first half of the class was great & he's nice. After that, the lectures started deviating from the textbook a TON. His PP's are DIFFICULT to follow/not clear at all. Quizzes have way more detail than he covers (but can be taken 2x). Discussion posts are easy. Plan to self teach. Do NOT take this class online unless you have to/are a BIO Maj.
Quizzes/exams are open note/book, but also hard and timed. Don't bother getting the textbook unless you want to (he goes over everything in lectures). Workload is manageable. Lectures can be difficult to get through sometimes especially if you don't have lots of upper division bio experience. If you are a more independent person, you'll do great.
This class was relatively easy to get an A, but so frustrating. The videos are just old livestream recordings where you can't see what image is being pointed at or explained. There are exam review videos, but there is no explanation, just what kinds of questions you will see so you still don't know what he was pointing at in the lecture videos.
Dr. Bradshaw's class can be challenging, but if you stay engaged and utilize resources like Unstuck study for study prep, you can excel. Recordings are helpful, and the textbook is useful for supplemental material not covered in lectures.
