GIVE THIS MAN TENURE!
Dr. Brophy knows his material and is one of the better professors in the dept.
He rocks history, baby; very knowledgable and interesting; not my easiest class.
Very knowledgeable about German history
knows material very well. fair exams. ALOT of notetaking required
he was not very clear on the intentions of his exams, very unclear,
Not sure what he wants on essay exams. His TA graded us. Nice guy
Keeps class interesting, great grasp of material and very approachable.
Excellent lecturer, fair grader, history from all the angles!
Go to discussion and you will do well...grades very fairly on tests and papers
Very knowledgable good prof., lots of notes, fair decent exams, fair grading to
Vast knowledge on subject matter. Distant at times...personal experience?
Easy to understand lecturer, uses powerpoint, no need to read textbook

Knowledgeable lecturer,fair grader,open to questions,lots of info
Brilliant, great speaker, fair
Great presentations. Really enthusiastic about teaching.Tough class but worth it
funny, fair grader, go to class and disc-fine, gives test questions
go to lec & discussions, do readings, study, and scan book, &get an A..smart guy
Exams are weird, lectures are not coherently organized.
Extremely knowledgeable and approachable. Great prof, just take lots of notes.
interesting, cares about students, need to go to lectures and read for an A
He is very passionate in his lectures. He draws you in. Exams are not bad.
GREAT PROFESSOR!!! truely inspirational teaching!
lectures are great and educational (which is not very common!) easy to approach
Awesome guy, amazing lectures, well organized, BUT WAY Too Many READINGS!
very intelligent, knows material inside and out, friendly, great class
Outstanding guy and teacher. Lots of reading though.
This guy knows his stuff. Like his sense of humor as well, friendly.
TAKE HIM! Makes class interesting and fun. One of the best professors at UD
Good teacher, very fair and very smart
HE is a little moody, but he is great. TAKE HIM.
Good Speaker, Polite Man, but I wouldn't take this class. His tests are not cake walks, you need to study alot for a 100 level class. He gets really really mad about anybody who plagrises, almost starts yelling.

Great guy, great teacher, makes things interesting exams are fairly tough
Interesting class, nice man, keeps your attention, a lot of reading, worth while class, TA does grading
He can be a tough grader at times, but he is very very helpful and always there if you need him. His classes are mostly always interesting, and he has awesome powerpoint presentations for every class.
Im a history major and i learned a lot from his class, but you wouldnt be able to tell b/c of the way he grades. Very hard grader. Listen to me b/c ive noticed everyone else that uses this are a bunch of dorks and lie to you bc they study too much.
Hes okay.Lots of unimportant reading.Lectures are boring but he has awesome notes. He grades weird and you have to know ALL dates. If you are in his discussion talk a lot and never skip the discussion. It is 20% of your grade!
this was a great course-i thoroughly enjoyed it, maybe i'm biased b/c i'm a history major, but this class was a breeze & brophy is terrific. if you need a multi-cult. class take hist 102, you'll learn alot.

great teacher, passionate about western civ
I have had 3 classes with him because he is the best teacher I have had here. Clear and very helpful. Real nice guy. Take your time to get to know him and it can make it easier on you.
good teacher, nice guy, and it's much easier to understand and get pointers if you're in his discussion session instead of the TA's discussion session
dr brophy is a great guy. go to office hours and he will help you out. tests are hard, but he practically tells you what will be on it. if you get the chance to take him, its worth it.
Very interesting class. Sometimes he read his Powerpoint slides WAY too fast without explanation, but he always stopped for questions. Wrote my hand off for those 3 blue book exams, but he's a very fair grader and can cut through B.S. like a champ. Would recommend to anyone who likes history.
This guy SUCKS! I was interested in the holocaust so I decided to take this class but I had to withdrawl from it because it was SSSOOOOOOO hard. We had 8 books to read and 6 of the 8 were very like graduate school level. I thought Brophy was very hard to understand, he had a HORRIBLY ANNOYING lisp!

I am a Jewish Studies minor and History major, so I took the course for both. Had Brophy once before and this time the course was easier. The reading is a lot for a 200-level undergrad course, but get the main idea and attend the discussions. You need to know the material, but he will explain at length if you are confused. A nice guy.
One of the most interesting classes her at UD. I looked forward to every lecture. there was alot of reading but some of the books were short and actually enjoyable. lectures based on powerpoints which help me alot. Exams are long w/ alot of writing and ur notes will take up a whole notebook. But this class makes you think and see thins differently
This is a great teacher. The lectures can get boring, but the tests are not that bad. You do need to go to class and take fairly good notes.
steer away from this intimidating man -- very tough grader, even if you study and put in effort... look elsewhere for a 102 teacher
Brophy is the man. I really liked his class. He is very passionate about the subject and his teacing is easy enough to follow. He gives you the possible essay questions before the exam. He gives you a choice so don't do all of them. Beat the system!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Brophy takes an interesting topic and makes it more boring and painful then you could ever imagine. He has no personality, he thinks WAY too highly of himself, and he expects way too much out of his students. I usually get As and Bs, but Brophy's class is ridiculous.
Avoid this class!!! This class is absolutely awful, which I did not expect. There is a lot of information that you HAVE to know in order to get a good grade. Tests are essays and those are graded extremely hard. Unless you are prepared to read more than usual and possibly not get the grade you are used to, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Pretty awesome guy. Very knowledgeable about twentieth century Europe. Very approachable during office hours. Exams were difficult, make sure to be really clear. Midterm, final, 5 page book review, 10 page research paper. Participate during book discussions and he will like you.
his class is soooo boring... although he is a nice man. His tests seem hard but the grading is really easy.
I worked hard in this class. Being a non-major I felt it necessary to take a lot of note in class and then follow up with reading and taking notes from the textbook. The tests are essays so you have to know your stuff pretty well. He's a really smart guy and nice, though. I definitely learned a lot!
Nice guy, easy enough class. Exams are essays, but aren't graded too hard. Never used my textbook once and got an A-, not bad.
Love the class. He is extremely nice and it is not hard at all. I do not know what ppl are tlaking about. If you go and study you will do fine!
Great guy, and a good teacher. His tests are perfect, not too hard, but not easy enough to get a easy A. Go to class, take notes, participate in discussion sections and you should be fine. If you want an A, you'll probably have to go a little bit further, but it isn't that bad.
Brophy is a beast. He's a very interesting guy - go to his office hours and get to know him because he's highly knowledgeable on European history. His tests are fair and for the most part easy. The only thing is: DO NOT show up late to class/disrupt class (he will have a personal vendetta against you and will call you out in front of everyone).
it seems easy, but its not. He's nice but the tests are awful and the final is really awful. If you have to take this class take it with someone else.
Professor Brophy is one of the best professors at UD. He is probably the most knowledgeable professor I've had thus far and teaches in an interesting/engaging way. Attendance is optional, but go and participate in discussions. Two papers, a midterm, and final exam - all pretty challenging but not unfairly difficult. Take Brophy
One of my favorite professors so far! He really knows his stuff and is interested in what the students have to say during the discussion sections. Really nice guy too. Class was easy if you do all the readings and go to lecture/discussion.
tough grader on the essays. powerpoint slides are vague so you need to go to class to get everything. ridiculous amount of reading. 2 novels and 2 textbooks. he helped write one of the textbooks so you can imagine just how much reading there is
Amazing professor, my favorite since I've been at UD. Exams are very challenging but if you attend class and study your notes you should do well. It is also really helpful to read the textbook and go to the online textbook. Brophy is so intelligent, I found his lectures to be so interesting. TAKE HIS CLASS!!
Great teacher. Cares very much about subject. Class is great because if you also care about subject and work at it an A is guaranteed. But even if you're not a History major he is approachable and very accomodating. Loved every second of his class. Appreciated class participation but attendance isnt mandatory.
Definitely knows his subject matter but class is VERY slow. Covers the facts, figures, and names behind the Holocaust with little emphasis on the more interesting aspects. A lot of reading, manageable but a pain. Overall, not bad but could be way better.
Awesome professor, knows a lot about the topic and is always willing to help, tests are easy although doing the reading helps a lot. If you go to class and do most of the readings its an easy A
A nice guy and very knowledgeable about the subject! But, there are so many required readings for the course and he expects the required papers and tests to be extremely detailed! So if you have any classes other than this one do NOT take it.
Really nice guy. Super into what he's teaching and really knows a lot about it. Gives students the benefit of the doubt. Rarely came to class but still got an A- in the class. One midterm, group project, final paper, and a final. Lenient grader. Show up like once a week and you'll be fine.
Brophy is so nice and helpful. He gives you a lot of information and is very knowledgable about the subject. Two papers and two exams that cover a lot of information.
Best Professor I've ever had. Lectures are clear, concise, and fascinating. Brophy demonstrations lots of knowledge and passion in his field. He covers a lot of detail, but hey, that's how you learn! There are a lot of required readings, but most are interesting. He's not a hard grader to boot. Cannot recommend highly enough.
This guy is adorable. Class is organized and interesting, tests are easy enough, and the reading isn't too bad. If you're interested in the Holocaust, don't miss this class--but seriously, don't text in this class. It's disrespectful and he will call you out for it.
I loved this class, Professor Brophy was amazing and so passionate. The readings aren't mandatory to pass but they are interesting. 3 exams and 1 paper. He gave us a list of terms to study for the exam but DON'T use wikipideia and you'll do fine. Take the class even if the topic doesn't interest you.
Brophy is a crack up and absolute history nerd. The guy is passionate and demands an incredible amount from his students. Do your readings, and do them religiously. He loves assigning reviews and demands clarity, so be ready for lots of underlining on your first papers.
You better agree with him, if not prepare to be eaten alive. Defiantly would have been better in more formal classroom not a Seminar on European nationalism, a truly ridiculous subject. -Weekly Papers -Intensive examination of writing proses, grammar, and your inter being. -Not recommended Content is disgustingly boring
I had him for History 102, when I used to be an IR major. Amazing teacher. He was so knowledgable, and made the content incredibly interesting. Definitely not an easy class, but your work will pay off. I wish their were more professors here at UD that were like him.
I LOVE Dr. Brophy. He is by far one of the best professors in the history department. I have taken three classes with him and have loved every single one. He truly cares for his students and if you go to office hours he answers all your questions, and then will talk about his time in Europe for the remaining time you are there.! Truly inspirational
Amazing professor, really cares about the subject and the students. Knows a lot about what he's teaching. Don't text or use your phone in class, he will call you out on it.
Dr. Brophy lecture's show how much he cares about the topic, but they can be long. he does expect his students to read a lot and reflect on what they read in Friday discussions. there are 3-4 write requirements.
Amazing professor and amazing person. Would take a class again with him in a heartbeat. The kind of professor you wouldn't want to skip their class just because you wouldn't want to make them sad and you would want them to like you.
Brophy is a kind professor who clearly knows his subject. He did a good job with the online format even though it was clearly new to him. Very few assignments, mostly just lectures. The only issue with him is that he is a BRUTAL grader for his paper, however he is very willing to give extra time to help students improve, he wants you to succeed.
Professor Brophy really cares about his students. If you ever email him, he will answer you right away and is very kind. Just be ready to read a lot and he is a tough grader. but if you meet beforehand, he takes that into consideration.
Took him for Europe in Crisis. Cool course that stimulated my interest in the subject and made me want to read more books about it in my free time. The term paper is tough while you're doing it so pick your topic early. He really appreciates when students participate in discussions and ask questions so it likely helps when he's grading your stuff.
Professor Brophy is by far the best teacher I've ever had in my life. He is the stereotypical college history professor in all the best ways. I have taken multiple classes with him and have enjoyed every second. He definitely is a hard grader, but it will only make you even better. Highly recommend taking his courses!
He assigned a lot of papers, most of which based on books we read and a research paper, but I had no problem with this. My major is to write about history, so I can't complain about that. He was insanely flexible with due dates and pushed back tests and papers a couple times. I accidentally submitted my final late, but he was very understanding.
Professor Brophy is an excellent professor who really cares about his students. There are a lot of writing and reading assignments, but he is clear with what he expects and he makes discussions interesting. You have to read everything he assigns because the class is a seminar.
Dr. Brophy is amazing but challenging in good ways! I enjoyed having him as a professor although I specialize in American history. Very understanding and is flexible with extensions if you show up and participate. Lots of reading, writing, and book reviews but it definitely prepares for your future in history.
Professor Brophy has easily become one of my new favorite professor's at UD. The class is definitely very stimulating in terms of the conversations that go on because he is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the topics at hand. He definitely is a tough grader but gives great feedback that you can use to improve upon your writing with.
Very good lecturer, makes the 50 minutes fly by. Attendance is mandatory, but you will want to come. Generally a very nice person and very open to discussion. There is a textbook, but I found it is supplementary to the lectures and I didn't open it at all.
Professor Brophy was definitely a highlight of this semester. He made a class I just took as a breadth requirement actually fun and very informative. He's amazing.
Dr. Brophy is a good professor for 268, but this seminar requires lots of reading that other 268 profs might not assign. You have a book review, two primary analyses, and a final research paper (the draft and the final are each worth 20%). He does provide good feedback, but it can be a lot. We did not cover European history as much as I wanted to.
I don't even like history but I loved taking this course. I also had him for the discussion section and he made the topic interesting and the class engaging. He's very passionate about history which makes lecture enjoyable. I highly recommend taking one of his courses even if it's just for a breadth requirement.
Dr. Brophy is by far my favorite professor I've had at UD. He is super passionate about the subject and made lectures about a topic I didn't particularly care about before taking class super interesting. Highly recommend. Also, you need the primary source reader but can skip out on the textbook (never used mine).
Prof Brohpy was a great professor. He is very passionate about history, which means his lectures were filled with a lot of information and took up the entire 55 minutes every class. There was one extra credit assignment that added a few points onto a test grade. You need the primary source reader but you don't necessarily need the textbook.
discussion mandatory, but class is easy if you know history prior you'll be fine
Easy fun class if you know some history. Tests are fairly easy. Attendance and participation matter in discussions. Need primary source reading but textbook isn't necessary. Professor is super passionate and helpful.
I enjoyed this course. This course teaches you how to study productively, which is a great thing to learn. In the discussion section, you read primary sources, and Professor Brophy pushes you to think and analyze the period. He is a great professor and very passionate which makes it fun to learn.
The best in the history department. Brophy's seminar is incredibly engaging even though some of the readings can be difficult. You will learn so much about both European history and writing papers. He is incredibly encouraging and open to helping his students succeed.
He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about history. You dont have to read the textbook if you pay attention and take good notes during lecture. He loves people who participate especially if youre in his discussion section. The exams do involve alot of writing but the questions are reasonable and based on topics that he emphasizes in class.
Best Professor there is at UD! He is full of knowledge and very caring.
Lectures are boring, but showing up matters. Exams are writing what you know, so if you show up to lecture and know the main concepts and slides he goes on and on about you are most likely prepared for the exams. The discussion participation grade is a great booster so recommended if your lecture grade is not great.
Mixed bag…. Some good some not
