not a bad teacher. always available for help. make use of his office hours. he definitely knows his stuff. don't be intimidated to ask questions. tests aren't that bad if you study enough and make sure you do all your homework. he grades the homework.
ok teacher, explains things as if you have already takin the class before.Moves a little fast. Do not take if u have a lot of other classes and have never taken trig before
Idiot
He's a nice guy, can move a little fast, but he does ask the class if everyone understands, so if you don't understand, it's your fault for not speaking up. You have to make the effort to try to learn. This is college, people, not elementary.

seems like alright dude...i like his class his clear and so far seems like an easy class, like those do your work and you'll do good classes
No Comments
hard hard hard...but if, as with all courses, your grades are what u make them. he is helpful if needed, but u gotta speak up. and dont feel embarassed, bc many of us made that same mistake, and most of us dropped....
He moves too fast, very dissapointed...i thought it would better..he acts like you know 100% of what he's doing he does not teach good i'm dropping it :( hopefully there is someone better DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF>>.....

if you understand math before going into the class then this is the class for you but if you like everyone else in the world then don't take his class. he goes really really fast and acts like you know everything already. he makes you feel dumb if you don't know everthing so people in the class don't ask questions. i would not take his class again
TOUGH TOUGH TOUGH...Do not take if you plan on missing class because it'll kill you. Assigns A LOT of homework, and the tests are very tricky. There are even times when the students must correct him! :-/
DO NOT TAKE HIM! WORST TEACHER EVER. SO UGLY AND COCKY AND SOUNDS DISGUSTING WHEN HE LECTURES. QUIZES ARE IMPOSSIBLE. HE THINKS HE IS THE****.
mr. B is one of the best teachers i have ever had ....sure he is hard but easy if you did the work
Not easy but if you go to class you'll learn
He's lecture sucks. I don't understand him at all. He is not helpful and he's english sucks.
their right he thinks he is mr know it all and we're all stupid pesants taking his class. hes very weird. dont take his class if you actually wanna learn math- i dident learn anything from him except how cocky he was.
I can't understand the word he says!!!!!!!!!!! he solves the porblem w/o explaining how the he did it!!! you'll find yourself w/ your mouth open looking dumb! I'd actually rather have th tutor teach the class than him!!!!!!!!!!!! sucks!! big time!!!! this is math man!!!! teach it properly!!!!!!!!!!!!
hes very easy! just do all the homework. He explains very well and thouroughly step by step, you will learn a lot! very good teacher!!
He explains the material very THOROUGHLY. It's hard to understand him at times, but he ALWAYS asks the class if they need more clarification. Take advantage of asking questions because hes always open to them. Get your questions answered, and you wont have a problem in his class.
I like him. no problems with him at all. I didn't have a problem understanding him. Math is one of those subjects were if u study and do your homework, you'll do well. The book in this course does a really good job at explaining the material. My favorite math course and teacher so far.
He's an okay teacher with a bit of an accent so sometimes its hard to follow him in lecture. He goes very quickly through chapters and assigns A LOT of homework. Time limit on quizzes is a little unfair. Basically, you'll do a good job if you do the examples in the book and ask questions in class. I'm good at math but most of class was lost.
ok this was my 2nd time taking math 60. Compared to the previous teacher, He is very CLEAR! He's easy on the homework, it gives you practice. The tests are not that hard at all! Overall GREAT!! Oh and he will help you if you need it!
This teacher started off cool. easy and helpful understanding. little extra hrlp. accent is hard to understand at times. be on time and present when class is schedule he always check attendence. dont leave early. exams are worth 20% each and final is 20% of whole grade. no extra creit, no make up, no drops of lowest score. so do well on everything!
I honestly did not do very hott in this class which is most likely why im not fond of it. it is very hard to grasp the concept he teaches at the rate he teaches it (which is VERY fast). If you work hard and know the concepts very well you should be fine. Extra help outside of class time is probably necessary unless you catch on very quickly in mat
Dont even think about this guy. soooo difficult to understand and it seems that he doesnt care about his students... maybe because he's reluctant to even help his OWN students. overall, he's horrible. only he can make a good student get a C in such an easy math course.
This guy is awesome! Im one of those people who hate math. He was the best math teacher Ive ever had and i even took his class in summer! Very helpful if you just ask him questions, but rarely need to because he really does a good job at explaining well to begin with!
overall, this guy is good, he expains very clear. However, math is always hard, previews the chapters before his class is way better. He has HW everyday except Exam days. The Exams & Final are 80%out of the whole grade.
Extremely difficult to understand and seams like he doesnt care about his students
Go to math tutoring... beacuse I did not learn anything in his class. He is bad at teaching math
He was hands down the most unpleasant teacher I've ever had at Cerritos College. He treats his students like it's junior high. He's very arrogant and his lecture wasn't very clear. I would highly recommend that you take another teacher if you aren't great at math on your own.
He is not that great....just DONT take him. If u have questions for him...sometimes he doesn't even answer them.
I DO NOT!!! reccomend you take this proffesor... he is the worst teacher ive ever had..he expects you to know math 114 like if you have previously taken it...very hard to understand..and dont ask questions becasue he doesnt answer them!...avoid taking his class...
He gives the students some surprises, such as: bring home quiz and test. Encourage us to study and work together. Provides lots of extra credits. Friendly, fair, funny guy. Work hard, you can pass his class.
Dropped his class.. he doesnt know how to explain things. expects you to know the stuff before you go to his class.. do not take his class (only if you want to retake it) I love math but with this teacher no
hes sexy! and teaches well. all these other comments below me are from people who never took math 60. if you took math 60 than take him. hes great!
the class was whatever. He's what you'd expect in a university prof: read the material beforehand, reviews the hw in class. it was ok. i don't think i got above a B on any exam/quiz & managed to get a B. just DO THE HW. he'll give u credit 4 it!! JUST TRY to complete it. it helps u & u get enough pts from it to pass
Good teacher...if u need help he's there....JUST ASK!!!!...he does work @ a fast pace but if u pay attention && do the homework u should pass!
I asked him a question ... he made me look like an idiot. Thinks he knows everything. If you miss a day you are dropped. spent 10 minutes doing a problem he couldnt solve. loves to put word problems even though we aint doing nothing with them.
This teacher is useless; he takes everything directly from the book. And his tests are so long, most of the class (all except maybe 1 student) cannot finish them. He is one of the very FEW teachers i dislike at CC.
I do not recommend you take this teacher because he lectures way to fast and expects everyone to know everything about math prior to attending class. He knows his stuff but doesn't know how to teach it. He doesn't care about students progression and is annoyed when asked questions. Take an engineering students advice and DON?T TAKE HIM.
He was an alright teacher. he seemed to like me, so it wasn't too hard to get his attention for help. But if you ask a question... BEWARE. he WILL make you feel kind of stupid. I am good at math, so I didn't have a hard time. never collected the homework, only reviewed whatever we asked him to go over. Tests were short and based directly off notes
DO NOT take him. He reads everything straight from the book, which isnt very helpful either. He tells you things rather than teaches and explains them. The exams were so long that nobody finished during scheduled class time.
hard class lots of h/w thats worth very little exams are hard he thinks that students are 2 know the infor. be4 he teachs it like no thats y we r here I regret taking this class only "5" people passed the class out of "35" people so if u want 2 get an "F" then take his class b/c thats what u will get if u don't get nothing else!
I dropped it. Very useless in terms of of teaching. He basically translates the book and that's it. He gets angry if students ask too many questions during class, it's ridiculously funny, yet unprofessional. Exams are difficult and he doesn't provide the answers to the test study guides, seriously. Also, bring a pillow. You'll definitely need it.
Homework dues were overlapping, between two chapters,no make up,no credits, got just one favor extra time, time is not sufficient to finished the test because he needs proof or show how you got the answer right. No solution no credits, policy.ALGEBRA not easy lots of work. Just like writing a book in math while taking a test. Very hard teacher.
This professor is unbelievable. He is rude, doesnt like helping students and constantly tries to put students down. His style of teaching is useless. Do not take him!
he is so rude, if you don't do it his way he won't accept any of your work even if you got the right answer, with a different method, don't take him; he is hard to understand and moves fast even if its a full semester class
A little difficult to understand at times but a curve grader, drops lowest score on homework and test. I didn't try and still made it out with a C. He can be personable and funny. He is very fast and assigns homework every night but that just makes you get it done. Doesn't correct it just checks it quickly over. If your strong in math then he'd be a breeze for you but for me I would have liked more structure, and a slower pace. I'd take him again.
He sucks!! Worst math teacher at Cerritos. He is arrogant and not helpful. Do not take any of his math classes unless you are a glutton for punishment!
Terrible
Difficult class, but learned alot. Lecture was fast, covered a lot of material. Test were difficult but if you do the homework and study you'll do fine. Enjoyed the class and Prof., would take another of his classed...
i like him. he is the type of person one can joke around with and talk to more than just as a professor. he covers class materials fast though, so you neeeeeed to pay attention and be focused.
Awesome, good teacher. Tougher then most but if you can keep up you'll learn alot. If you can't then you may need to do 60 again.
Doesn't give enough time for tests...
i love Byun!!!! maybe its hard for you to follow him in class but if you come to his office hour,it gonna be really helpful, cuz he will answer all the question that u didnt understand.
I liked him. He definitely went over every step and wouldn't continue until he asked if everyone was good.
taking him is no different than taking semi-independent class
If you do your homework you should do ok on the tests. Not much for test prep - except for the final. Very anal about the way he wants things done. Overall a good teacher. Would take him again in the future.
Great professor!
I am currently taking this class and all i can say is that HE IS HARD! He goes through chapters too fast and expect you to know everything. If you ask him to do another problem he will say no. Ill be very lucky if i pass his class with a C. He gives no study guides. 90% of your grade is based on 3 tests and the final. dif harder problems on tests.
Avoid as much as possible if you want an A or B. He grades hard and he doesn't explain everything that clearly.
Took him for Math 114 and he is horrible. Do not take him!! He's is so rude and not helpful at all. He is always late & then keeps you late. Gives take home quizzes as people are already walking out. I would never take him again.
taking this teacher now, wish i didnt!! he is useless as a teacher!! he is very unhelpful when u have questions. 90% of ur grade are tests and he doesnt give study guides. HE JUST SUCKS IN GENERAL, DO NOT TAKE UNLESS YOU PLAN ON TEACHING YOURSELF..
This class is very difficult. Your grade is based off of 3 tests and 1 final. There're no quizzes, no practice tests and no study guides. He goes through the chapters very quickly, so be prepared to teach yourself. Everyone failed the 1st test. He grades really hard. He says his tests are like the homework. I did all the homework and still failed
He's absolutely terrible. There's 3 Tests and a final and you better believe that half the stuff on the test isn't even covered in class. I was there every freaking day and tried my absolute hardest and understood NOTHING. Save yourself the trouble and take someone else!
only students who breath math 24/7 should CONSIDER taking this professor. no other comment.
he's a horrible professor material on test never covered in class. does not go over what on test, all that he lists; yes "list" not a review;are not on the test. no extra credit. everyone but 6 dropped him, everything on test must be solved HIS WAY or its wrong and he will say you guessed or copied. DO NO TAKE HIM
Professor Byun is a very good professor. You go to his office hours and he goes over everything in detail with you. Take some time to read the book and understand the material yourself. Study the concepts he provides for his tests, or from the notes he gives and you'll be fine. You have to teach yourself.
At first I hated him! He makes it hard in the beginning on purpose for students to drop. Well, nearly 50% of the class dropped!! I was one of the lucky few to stay and pass, but it wasn't easy. You really have to put in work. DON'T SLACK OFF STUDY CRAZY FROM THE BEGINNING! He does have a heart even if it may seem non-existant. hes not all that bad
Isn't clear while "teaching", hard tests, no study guides, and hw is only worth 6%. I now see how crucial a good teacher is in math. I think Byun himself came here and called himself a goodteacher because no one I know would call him that. Before the semester ended 25 people dropped. All I can say is good look to anyone who takes this teacher.
At first I wouldn't mind going to his class, then his 1st test came I got a C. I thought I had done better but I figures I had to get used to his teaching/grading style. So I studied really hard and then his 2nd test came I got an F. I studied really hard and on his 3rd test I got a D. Dedication and hard work wont help here. Be happy to get a C :(
He started off great, but as the content got more difficult he was not great at explaining, nor was he very helpful when going over the homework. He really only goes over the examples in the book.
Even if he has the last class open do not take him. Save your GPA and time. Taking him is basically like taking a AP class with a bad teacher. Hard tests and little is explained. You'll have more chances getting a better grade in a Semi Independent class. Just wait till the next semester to take the math you need!!!
Byun is a very friendly teacher, very nice and talks and laughs with his students a lot. If you do your homework and study before tests, you do very well, the questions on his tests are straight out of the homework.
At first I was intimidated because of all these comments but they are so wrong. He is very nice if you talk to him and let him know you don't understand. He will help if you put effort. He goes over things clearly IF YOU ASK! I absolutely love this class. Put effort as you should and you'll do fine!
Byuns not an easy person to ask for help unless he likes you. loves having his ego stroked & laughing at his students who need help. Shows off his knowledge w/o necessarily helping anyone. Skips lots of info and makes you feel stupid for not already knowing it by smirking. Doesnt follow book lessons: book = wrong. "Im your teacher, not the book."
he's a cool teacher but he goes throught the lesson way too fast..
He has a thick accent to the point I could barely understand. Even though, he does play League of Legends and a cool guy who is layback, he is hard to learn. I recommend not to take him since he's not that great. He wings the class too much and teaches too fast to the point I could even barely finish copying on the board.
Great Professor. Makes sure the students understand the course work. He's laid back and loves to actually reminisce back to the days when he was a college kid. Gives advice and of course he does all this at the end of the class when there is a couple minutes left. He is always willing to help and ask but students hesitate. easy class overall.
Byun is like taking an AP class. You really have to teach yourself because he is not much help at all and is anal about how HE wants work done. Teaches bare minimum to his understanding, not the students. Skips steps constantly and helps minimally even when reviewing. Tests will catch you off guard. Problems are not gone over in homework or notes.
I took this teacher and I could never pass because he gave questions AP style questions. Needless to say I didn't pass. I just took semi-independent and passed with an A. Avoid this teacher and take SEMI-IND instead. The class is self taught, but if you take this teacher you end up doing that anyways. At least in SEMI-IND you have a chance!
Gives out way too much homework, his exam's are mostly word problems that he rarely teaches, makes us show every single detail to every problem or points off, makes us do equations his way, forces the class tutor to correct the homework.
worst professor ever
He is a strict instructor and harsh when it comes to grading. He doesn't give any extra credit and you have to do well on the exams in order to pass his class. If you're not good in math, I do NOT recommend him!
Save your time and money and do not take this professor. Wait till next semester for a better teacher because you will absolutely hate his teaching and grading strategy. Terrible, TERRIBLE teacher.
Try to avoid, but If you are going to take him you better do your homework and don't fall behind. Study for the tests and if you are still lost find a tutor or visit him at his office hours. Byun is funny guy, but his teaching style needs improvement, he goes too fast and and leaves most students confused.
He is rude and unhelpful. He makes the material more difficult than it needs to be. You will miss points on the tests if it is not done HIS way. He makes you feel stupid for asking questions. You basically have to teach yourself.
I had received A grades in my previous math classes, MATH 40, and 60.. but this guy is not helpful.. he knows his stuff really well, but do not expect to grasp what the heck he's talking about. He issues A TON of homework, and it is only worth 5% of your grade. If you can, stay AWAY!!
This is teacher is a very tough professor. I usually get A's in all my classes and only in his class did I get a B so it dropped my GPA. He grades very strictly and is not clear on what he expects on his tests so they're impossible to ace. Do not recommend at all because of his form of teaching, attitude, and grading.
If you're terrible at math AVOID THIS CLASS. I usually get A's but this guy is tough. He's a good guy, but he goes way too fast on the material. BE PREPARED TO TEACH YOURSELF
Not very good at explaining the topics at hand. Often students would ask for clarity. Spends a good amount of time off-topic.
Avoid take him if you can. If you struggle in math he is not the professor to help you. He is hard to understand because of his accent. Tough grader and moves fast in lecture.
I am horrible at math and was hoping he would be a good teacher. I was wrong. Terrible professor. Do not take him!
He moves a bit too fast, assigns the most homework out of all the professors who teach math 80. No extra credit, and very strict.
Do not take him if you want to pass. He is the hardest professor. Not clear on his lessons. Most times stops lecture to say a joke or gets off topic fast which is annoying. Hard to pass.
Great teacher! Pay attention, do your homework & ask questions. He is very helpful.
I've fallen asleep many times in this class, but he is pleasant enough, and sometimes he tells funny stories in a very April-Ludgate way. His teaching style is ultimately unhelpful for me, as I get distracted easily, and he doesn't make an effort to make class "exciting" or "engaging." But, hey, if you're shy, he almost certainly won't call on you.
Hardest professor I've ever taken. I'm usually good at math but I was struggling in his class. Everything must be done his way, must show work & check work or else points taken off. A lot of homework is assigned. Exams are extremely hard, 1st exam average was 52%. No study guides or cheat sheets given or allowed. Don't take if you want an easy A.
When I took Prof. Byun 3 semesters ago I thought he was pretty clear in his lectures. Yes, he may be picky compared to other instructors on how he wants certain problems done, but if you understand clearly of his directions then I don't see how that's supposed to hurt you (whether his intended way supposedly helps or not). He is funny at times too.
He has an attitude that says "this is beneath me" and "you're an idiot." He's not helpful at all and he makes you feel stupid when you volunteer answers. Most of us just stayed quiet because we were always wrong in his mind. He's one of those math teachers that turns students off even more towards math. Completely unhelpful and I do not recommend.
Homework is only worth 6% of the class, yet the amount of it is absurd and takes hours to do. His grading style is terrible, as he marks points off if you do not answer test Qs his way. Each point off is 1% lost. Skips steps during lectures. Doesn't answer Qs, refers you to math tutors. Only does examples from the book. The book is horrible.
One of the far worst math teachers and doesn't have any respect for students.
Prof Byun is strict with grading however he does offer extra credit if the class all ask for it. From what I remember he is fun sometimes he cracks a joke here and there, I'm pretty sure he mentioned he liked watching the Breaking bad tv show and that he even plays pc games too. Overall just ask for help during his hours and he always welcomes it.
He was awful. I am not bad at Math at all and I did not pass this class with him. On exams if you do not do the question his way from start to finish, you will not get it correct, even if you have the correct answer. He has very little to no respect for his students. The amount of homework is ridiculous and it does not even account for much.
i am good at math but with this professor i am failing the class. Even if you get correct answer he wouldn't give you credit for it he wants students to show work the way he does.
Not the best math professor
This Professor really knows his stuff. He teaches quite well and is very helpful. Unfortunately, he gives u a ton of homework(1500 problems EOO or ODD of every chapter we do), exams are super hard and long(20 problems, 2 hours).
Although the subject was not hard, This professor gives close to 1500 problems for the semester. You will basically spend all your time just doing homework. His Exams are long and difficult(20 problems in 2 hours). You be lucky if you get a C. Great lectures though.
You have to solve math problems the way that he wants you to do, which is ironic because he is terrible at teaching you how to solve things, which leads to students having to learn the material outside of class.... and then losing points because they did not do it his way. Way too much homework. Very rude. Avoid at all costs!
this professor does fine, but if you struggle at all with math or aren't a quick learner, he is not the professor for you. He does not really allow for questions, and if you do, make sure its a good question. If you do struggle with math like I do, i do not recommend.
I took his math 60 and 80 and enjoyed it. His lectures are pretty fast paced and there is a lot of homework but i really liked his class anyway. It was my favorite one out of all my classes. On the plus side he tells you whats going to be on his tests and has study sessions before each test. I thought he was a funny and chill guy.
I took him for math80 during the fall and he is a really good teacher. The homework is very much independent but during class he does go through every lesson that is gonna come up on an exam. So he is a really good teacher
He is a fast pace and lightly explains questions. He also gives a lot of hw. He does tell you what section ever question in the test will be, but it is a step up from anything you do in the class and the hw
Avoid taking his class at all cost. A LOT of hw he acts as if Math is life. If you aren't one of his fav's don't bother. If you ask questions hes looks annoyed. No one in our class is passing any of the test which he told us! What's the point of teaching if you're going to fail everyone.
Relies on the book a lot, gives a large amount of problems for homework, and his lectures go so fast to the point where there's almost no room for questions. I got extremely stressed out at the start of the semester, and decided to drop it to save face. If Math isn't your strong suit, I really don't recommend.
Toughest professor I have ever had, never failed a math class in my life until I took him and math is an easy subject for me to understand. Expect quizzes that are TIMED an hour, not enough time to complete these quizzes. And gives a lot of HOMEWORK!! You don't show up, he'll drop you so you must attend but tbh choose another professor
It's super hard to get an A, but he is not as bad as the other reviews make him seem. Ask him the hard questions of the homework in class or even in his office hours, he will explain it well. The only thing is that some problems on his test are nothing like the homework or example problems we did.
His lecture notes were disorganized in the beginning, but got better gradually. Expect a lot of HW,30 problems per section. Makes test harder than needed. Will not give extra time on test. Due to level of difficulty and number problems, did not finish test. Expect 1 problem on test will not be covered in the HW or lecture. You will have to tryhard.
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS W THIS PROF!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lazy, slow to grade, HORRIBLE w communication, doesnt care about students, and doesnt use his own material. I did decent in the class but only w the help of the lecture videos of another prof.
Avoid his online classes at all cost. I am taking this class to get credit to advance my career. I know my math but this professor acts as if you have time to finish 2000 math problems. He is literally insane expecting people to learn by doing problems like these and rude by email. Don't bother
The GOAT. People who say he is a bad professor do not take the time to study. You will succeed as long as you study the practice exam. He works very hard and expects you to return the favor. Also marks very quickly, anything from 2 hours-3 days. If you are in a major that needs a lot of Calculus, take him as he teaches Calc 1 very effectively.
Professor Byun has a specific teaching style, but engaging with it pays off. Lectures are worth attending to grasp the concepts. Use the free textbook, attend study sessions, and try tools like Unstuck ai for effective prep.
If you can avoid this class, do so. I took this as a college freshman and I'm taking a huge loss in time, effort, and GPA. Of my class of nearly 30 students, only 5 were enrolled for the last day, and 4 showed up for the final exam. Byun's teaching is the worst I've had for math, so I suggest to whoever is considering Byun to find an alternative.
His teaching style assumes you have read and practiced the material before class. His grading scale is generous (do the homework!) and he gives some extra credit opportunities. Try to stay a couple lessons ahead of the syllabus, study hard (Youtube), and you should be okay!
Only thing I'll say is that if you miss any assignments, quiz's, or exams he won't give you an extension no matter what your situation is.
