Hey, wants to be in control of everything. His class will make you fall asleep. If you miss two classes he will drop you. Please dont tx in his class he will mark you tard. I thought art should be fun and easy to understand with him there is no winning
A great instructor and well worth taking. Knows his materil. Yes you have to study but that is why we are in college.
AMAZING!! You have to read the textbook to do well on the test. Gives great reviews. If you put in the effort and participate in class, you will do great. Would definately take another class from him.
learned a lot and had very little interest in art, awesome teacher
Absolutely amazing!! I wish all of my professors were this knowledgeable and interested in the subjects they teach. I knew nothing on the subject prior but loved every minute of the class because he made it so relevant, so interesting. He's a serious instructor, you gotta do the work, but if you do, he makes the learning it easy.
Fantastic instructor. If you genuinely enjoy learning and being taught by someone who knows their shizz...he is the professor for you. Don't take his class if you are not serious about doing your work and paying attention because you will not like each other. Aside from that he is one of the best I've had!
Great teacher, very nice and helpful. The assignments involved in this class consist of reading responses, a term paper, midterm, powerpoint presentation over an artist, and a final. Skipping class isn't a smart choice seeing as how majority of the test is information that comes from his lectures.
This is one of the best classes i've had in my entire college career. He is really a very nice man, although a bit dry. He really loves art & it shows in his lectures. Just make sure to show interest and DO NOT cheat. He will call you out in front of everybody. [i didnt do this]
The best art prof. there could be. His tests compose of mostly lectures, so take good notes. He's very understanding. TAKE HIM!
Pretty great guy. Very simple and interesting. Do the work and Pay attention and you'll pass.
He's a great guy. You can tell he's passionate about what he's teaching. I'll have to be honest though, I found the class harder than I expected it to be. I don't know if it's because I took him in the wrong class with the wrong people but I did not learn very much in terms of art vocabulary. It's more towards learning about contemporary artists.
I took both arts 1301 and Arts 1304 with him.he was pretty helpful and knowledgeable.i learned A LOT from his class and he is very good at grading.lots of extra credit opportunities!!highly recommended!!
If you're taking him for art appreciation and expecting a blow off class then it's pinball best to find another professor unless you're trying to major in art. The class isn't too bad it's just that the professor makes it difficult. The lectures have nothing to do with tests use the textbook for it. Good luck
He is a great teacher, but he expects a lot from you. There are twice as many assignments than the average art lecture course. He is really knowledgable, and can answer most of your questions, and is not afraid to google anything he doesn't know. A lot of work though....
Definitely one of the best professors I've ever had. Very professional but at the same time personal with the students. You can ask him pretty much anything
Loved Prof Campbell. Extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and passionate. Would definitely recommend this course to anyone!
Best art professor on campus, he's nice and super funny. Definitely would take another class from him, and would highly highly suggest him to anyone wanting or needing to take art!
Mr. Campbell is a bit self-deprecating at times, but he's overall funny and insightful. His vocabulary is very colorful, so be sure to bring your thesaurus to class (jk). One word you'll grow to love, however? "Apotropaic." It's everywhere. You'll ace the class if you study the vocabulary and maybe watch some videos. It's an easy class.
He expects you to have a photographic memory. He will not give you the power points he shows, which is very difficult trying to link the lecture to the art work.
He's possibly my favorite professor I've ever had at Lone Star. He's funny, wants to make sure his students engage in discussion, and is responsive to emails and personal questions. He takes into consideration any problems you may be experiencing and offers solutions. Even if you aren't an art major, it's a great class with a wonderful professor.
He tells you what he expects from the beginning. Tests aren't the easiest, but manageable. Paying attention to his lectures is key; might be a bit monotone, but lectures are not boring. Feedback for presentations are very specific, significantly improving most people's grades by the last one.
Professor Campbell is amazing, I would take him again. If you respect him and do your work on time he'll respect you. He is very sarcastic but it keeps the class interesting. Not that his classes aren't interesting, everything we learned had some sort of relationship to popular culture and a lot of it was controversial so it was very interesting.
MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR. You definitely have to work for your grade, it is college after all c'mon guys, but Professor Campbell makes everything perfectly clear on what he expects. Explains everything very well and is hilarious. Definitely not a boring class. Not a fan of school but actually sad this class is over. Would definitely take again.
Best Professor ever!! He makes his class fun , and interesting ! very down to earth , will help you if you need help! his tests are straight to the point . I was worried about taking this class , but i learn so much about art !
Professor Campbell is a really nice guy with a great passion for art! The class may seem daunting at first, but if you give it your all you will succeed. Ask him questions about the assignments if you are stuck, he won't bite. The lectures are very interesting, and I have left this class with a greater appreciation for the different styles of art.
What can I say Professor Campbell is an amazing instructor. He knows his stuff really well. His lectures makes you appreciate art. He is very nice, helpful, and funny too :)
Great professor! Very funny and is helpful. Don't be scared to ask him questions if you are confused. He makes you appreciate art!
I had professor Campbell for Art History II last semester. Overall a decent professor. You will need to attend class much as possible in order to take notes, because it will be your only chance to do so. He kinda has a neutral personality, but he is pretty nice to talk to. He also cares a lot about his students; it's an A for effort, really.
Mr. Campbell is a great teacher that's willing to go out of his way to help with the course. Would take again.
I really loved this class. He is really interesting and tells funny life stories. Attendance is mandatory because he shows us pictures of art works and we watch videos. I really would recommend him as an Art teacher. He is so funny and he gave us one thing of extra credit at the end. Their is also extra credit on the tests.
Mr. Campbell is a really nice and funny teacher. He keeps the class interesting and makes sure every student is involved. His grading criteria is consistent as it's composed of 2 essays, 1 project, the midterm & the final. It's nothing impossible but it could be easier. I would recommend him if you don't mind putting in the work.
The Campbell is no usual prof. If you want to be a better-rounded individual and learn to analyze things from a different perspective, Mr. Campbell is the man! The class is NOT difficult. But if all you want is to show up and pass, or if you are challenged intellectually, in other words, if you're dumb and lazy don't even bother. Go back to kinder
He is my favorite prof at lonestar! He will work with you to help you succeed as long as you are actually trying. If you don't do the assignments or show effort, your grades will show it. He makes the class very enjoyable even for those who don't really like art. He also has a very amusing sarcastic sense of humor which makes lectures fun!
Professor Campbell is amazing, he truly cares about the arts so you will definitely learn alot from him. He is also extremely understanding and will work with you if you are having trouble. He's a great choice. One major project, two papers, the midterm and final.
Prof Campbell is extremely passionate about Art and his class wasn't bad at all. You're graded on 2 papers, a major project, and the midterm & final. If you put effort in your assignments and show him that you care, its an easy A. What I loved about his class was that he let us express ourselves, no answer was wrong to him
If you are looking for an easy Athis is not the class for you. However, if you are interested in increasing your knowledge about art, then Mr. Campbell is the man. He really knows his stuff and makes class very interesting! He covers many topics and artists in class. I recommend taking notes and studying the images for the best results.
He has become on of my favorites. I took him last semester and while the class is lecture heavy, the information is very interesting. He has a way of keeping his students involved in his lectures. Taking good notes is important. If you go to class, study the textbook, and put in some effort, you will pass.
He's really sarcastic which makes class interesting, responds to emails quickly and is very understanding. 2 test (midterm and final) and 2 visits to the museum and one final project. His reviews can be confusing and the test are fill in the blank, multiple choice and an essay section.
The only reason I made a B was because I was very quiet & participation matters. He is by far my favorite professor b/c I have a thing for sarcasm. You will learn about different artists & canvas. Follow the syllabus & put in the effort, you will make an A. Take him if you want to learn and pass. He likes it when you stand out in class too.
Campbell seems like a fluid, clear teacher. If you like art or want a decent grade go for this guy. Reading is a must and you shouldn't skip.... good teacher regardless guys. Nerdy, too.
Professor Campbell's class was awesome. It was really a great experience for me. Art History has always been an interest of mine, but James made it even more interesting. It wasn't as much of a class for me as a collection of intriguing activities and lectures. Professor Campbell classroom is an open forum for discussion and insight.
I'm in Prof. Campbell's class this summer, and suffice it to say he is awesome. One of the best teachers I've had ever because he knows how to involve students in his lectures. He will "cold call" on you but it is not too bad, as he does not humiliate you; he just wants to know what you think. He will introduce you to a lot of interesting art.
Professor Campbell is amazing! He is very kind and truly cares for his students. His lectures are very inspirational. He has a passion for art and conveys it so vividly. He gives reviews for the tests, memorizing the artworks and artists are always a safe bet.
Campbell is a real doll. I had him in summer 1 session and he is simply amazing. A relative drove me to the arts museum and he was so kind and gave her the free pass into the museum. He's also hilarious and loves banter. TAKE HIM!!
Professor Campbell was one of my favorites! He makes art very interesting, the projects are fun and easy, but you do have to present them in front of everyone. You will do great on midterm and final if you actually take good notes! DO NOT MISS CLASS
This professor is awesome. There was only 2 tests and 2 projects. Enough space in between to study and get the projects done. Very easy course and he makes it fun. Follow the study guide, and you will pass the test.
Professor Campbell is a great teacher, I actually loved his class. If you have a weak spine his sarcasm might not be your cup of tea. Clear grading criteria is given to you for the whole semester the first week. Only two projects and a mid term and final. Make sure you do them, a lot of what is tested he goes over in class so dont miss.
an odd, dry sense of humor but he really tries to relate by cracking little jokes hoping for a laugh. come to class focused and be prepared to take notes on pretty much everything, but he's good about being thorough and reasonable in his presentations. he is partial to the students who show effort/participate, however he detests plagiarism.
I'm not going to lie, the midterm and the final are hard. Study every note you ever took and start studying early. He does give 2 projects that are easy which can help boost your grade. His lectures were very interesting. Over all, if you put in the effort as an adult should, you will do well. If you're lazy, take someone else.
His tests are difficult. Requires a lot of memorization. He is kind but expects a lot from his students. You will use the textbook. If you skip class you will have missed information since he doesnt post his PowerPoints to D2L. Great professor.
Professor Campbell is a great teacher, you can learn a lot from him. This class is not an "easy A" kind of class. you work for your grade. Two major tests and Two museum projects. Opportunities for extra credit. If you are an Art Major I recommend professor Campbell. You do use the textbook and he does expect you to participate in the lecture.
Professor Campbell is passionate about art and he shows it. He is knowledgeable on the topics he covers in class; presents the material in an interesting way to engage the students! The Mosaic Art Project was cool. It incorporated all the topics we covered throughout the semester. Beware missing lectures. He shows videos that are covered on exams.
For the love of god study for the tests and read the book. I took his summer course and it was some work but it's diffidently a class worth taking. He's a cool guy who knows his stuff but he's not so cool that you bs your way through the class.
Prof Campbell was amazing. He knows his stuff and can effectively teach you the material. You will use the textbook, I found that reading it prior to exams was helpful. His exams are lengthy and tough so pay attention and take good notes during lectures. He likes to get to know his students and requires them to participate. Highly recommend.
Took Prof. Campbell for summer class and i wish that i had more time to be in his class. 100% you will laugh in his class, the way he interacts with his students is just amazing. Lecture wise , you have to take notes cause everything on the test will be from his lecture, and there will be reading about art that is on the test Overall AmazingTeacher
His class was very easy and enjoyable. always made sarcastic jokes and tried to make the class fun. Lecture was short and understandable and did about an 4 hours of work a week for studying and homework, if i did more i probably would of gotten an A. Would take again.
Hes a nice professor but difficult
I enjoyed his class very much! If you like art and history you should take it and it will be easy for you, if you are not into that you should take another class. There is an obligatory trip to the Fine Arts Museum, which was really cool.
Exams are Midterm and Final only. 1 to 2 easy in class quizzes. 2 projects, one is a museum paper and the other is worked on throughout the semester and presented at the end. Lectures are unique and only found in class so show up, participate, read the book and you will pass. you have to seriously try to fail this class!
He knows what he is talking about. He does extra credit opportunity, there is always a chance of laughing in his class. He is a caring teacher.
Great professor who really cares for his students and is passionate about art. He takes the time to get to know his students and tries to tailor the class to their interests. Does require participation and be ready to present multiple times throughout the year. Take detailed notes as lecture material is very important on the tests. Loved his class.
He is very straight forward. You ask, then be ready to hear the answer. You will never have to wonder about your grade average in his class. He is very transparent.
Would Take Again :)
Okay tell me why... he decides to cancel class two days in a row right. And u know the thing of waiting 15 mins if ur prof doesnt show up u can leave... okay after the two days class was cancelled the third class there was class, I got there 7 mins late and he locks both doors and has a paper saying no late arrivals. This is ridiculous.
coming back to the person under me. He cancelled class twice because he was in the hospital. People also took advantage by getting there late. Other than this, hes a good teacher, gives feedback. be ready to present multiple times, have homework every weds. only grades are midterm, final, museum paper, and all the homeworks combined
Encourages participation and tries to adjust the class to align with students' interests. He has a very dry sense of humor that doesn't always translate well, but he's funny and caring. Grade focus on midterm/final and a couple major projects instead of tests or quizzes. Reminded me of my love for art, I only wish I had taken his class sooner.
Took him the summer. Funny and chill, although he may call you out to participate, he's relaxed and easy going with it. No "wrong" answers. Two writing assignments/presentations: be critical and find personal meaning. His tests were pretty easy to me. Tip: memorize artists/time/artworks, the rest of the test is easy if you have that base.
Favorite teacher I've had so far. Theres not many assignments but they matter and he grades fairly. He makes the class so interesting and talks about things that anyone would be interested by. He can be really funny and charming. He shows these really cool videos almost every class. I had so much fun learning about the different artists he showed.
He has a great personality BUT his lack of communication has really been a problem for the whole class. His lectures are fine and informative but he constantly forgets to give us the vocabulary we need in order to participate in his class. Tests are also very disorganized and in outdated formats.
Took for a 5 week summer session. Worst communication in an online class EVER! Sent emails and would never respond. Difficulty with navigating the online forum and professor did not care. Professors are suppose to encourage learning and this was not the case. If you have any questions or complications he is not considerate nor understanding.
I took both of his art history classes and he is an amazing teacher! Theres a lot of lectures, his powerpoints dont have much text but when they do, he gives students time to write the info and will go back if you ask. Hes big on class participation and expects it. Hes much better to learn from in person than online.
You have to read , watch videos, look at power points, it is a lot of work so it's not a blow off class. We had around 8 grades and the 2 exams were 25% each so it had up 50% of your grade. Make sure you complete all of the assignments that are weighted smaller it'll help you pass if you do bad on the two exams. You will fail if you don't do work!!
This class is not for the fainthearted. Its an interesting class but the test and exam is quite difficult.
AMAZING PROF! My favorite class I have ever taken. Participation is essential to enjoying the course, the lectures are very interesting. Understands if you have no background in arts and is pretty lenient, just wants you to apply yourself a little. Very clear exam formats, quizzes are used for extra credit on tests, few projects & lots of presenting
Mr. Campbell's class is very difficult, but the lectures are fun and he will let you know what exactly to write down as you take notes. I wish he had more than 2 assignments worth 50% of the grade, and the test and final were worth the other 50%. if you got a lower grade on even 1 assignment it brought your entire grade down that you can't get up.
Good Professor. Make sure to take general notes during the lecture and you'll be fine. 4 GRADES IN THE CLASS. (25%MIDTERM)(25%MUSEUM PROJECT)(25%ART PROJECT)(25%FINAL) plus 2-5 points extra credit to overall grade. Easy Pass.
Personally, I would not take this class since you don't have a Points buffer like other classes. If you aren't too sharp and rely on Points Buffers to pass., this isn't the class for you. I'd recommend someone else. You have to be on your A-game, and Unless you are an AI, I won't take this class, especially if you are slow
Highly recommend this class if you want to take an ART or need an ART credit. Professor Campbell's lectures are interesting, engaging, and thoroughly enjoyable. This class REQUIRES effort so be ready to put in the work, however, the class itself is super fun and the projects/events are awesome experiences. Most importantly the professor is AWESOME.
Although I managed to pass this Class I still regret taking it.4 Grades for the year include two projects,Midterm and final. However, if you aren't knowledgeable or unwilling to invest time in this class, I would avoid it.The lack of homework will cause you to be disengaged with the study material and tests. This class is a test of your memory class.
Professor Campbell is an amazing impassioned art history teacher with amazing informative lectures. I also really liked the museum trips even if it meant I couldn't fully enjoy the museum. Plenty of extra credit that makes up for any other grading choices.
Prof Campbell is truly passionate about his class! 4 grades: 2 exams & 2 museum projects (worksheet+paper+powerpoint). Work is required to pass this class, you will need to study & take really good notes. He makes art so interesting!! I have become increasingly more competent in this subject because of him. There are also fun art events. TAKE HIM!
You have to really work for your grade he will offer alot of extra credit but it is your job to study the material and memorize every detail including some that don't seem important. 2 exams (midterm + final), 2 project (menil collection + MFAH). Be prepared to do work outside of class. Watch the videos, that he gives, don't waste info he gives.
Professor Campbell's lectures are enjoyable albeit a bit slow at times. This class does require a lot of effort so you need to be willing to put in the work as there's only about 4 assignments in total that being two projects and the final plus midterm. He's a pretty chill teacher with some dry humor but it was an interesting class nonetheless.
Took his Class for ENGL 1301 it was his first semester teaching and I believe it was also his last. My Over all experience was very bad to say the least, HE took to long to grad and by the time he does its to lat do do anything about it, no second opportunities, Gives 1 extra credit at the end of the semester but it's worthless it won't help.
As someone who hates art the class was pretty interesting. All the material comes from his lectures and videos. There's 2 projects only. He's pretty straight forward w his lectures and he wants participation from the class. U get learn a lot and have fun. I would definitely recommend him for anyone trying to get an art credit.
I loved Professor Campbell's class, if you showed up and actually tried. He noticed. Art history was my most memorable and enjoyable elective because of him. He would advocate for out of class assignments, made the class immersive. The test weren't the easiest, but again try. If you want educational, enjoyable, a bit challenging, take it.
Professor Campbell one of the best profs I've had & would take him again. He is super funny & friendly, secondly he knows a LOT about what he teaches and is very knowledgeable. He also makes his lectures interesting. I can say for sure there are 2 art projects typical essay+presentations. Then mid term and final. HE ALSO HAS MANY EXTRA CREDIT!
