This class is so easy. Every quiz has extra credit, and the tests are open book
Just use the website and studyguides and you can skip any non-quiz day
Easy class. Use the website and study guides and the class is a breeze.
didn't learn much; TESTS OPEN BOOK; don't miss friday - quiz day
excellent class & prof, interesting material, open notes/ book exams help too!!!
open book tests are extremely hard!
As long as you study you will be perfectly fine.
weird guy, easy class, test taken straigt from the website open book

Open book tests. Quizzes easy. Just cut the mullet. Good guy.
Thank god for open book tests.
CUT THE MULLET, love the open book tests

TRUST ME! You will get over a 100% Take this guy. Very Easy!
Easy class open book tests, study off CD that comes with the course book
He's the best take him open note open book test and the test on the study guide
Ok class. He is a VERY easy teacher. Open note tests!
Easy class, open book tests but hard, will take 1.5 hrs. plus
If you don't get an A you don't belong in college, really into himself though
Easy class, go only to take quizes, tests are exact questions off study guides
MULLET MAN!!!!
I ended up with a 4.0 and definitely didn't deserve it. He is very boring but worth the easy A. Attendance not a necessity.
Really great I learned a lot from his class!!

Get the test questions from the library... and he lets you take notes and the book into CLAS...what more could you ask for?
Lets you take book to tests... it follows along with the book... very easy!
He was sooo easy. You can skip all the classes...all exams are open book in the testing center...and if u have an A you dont have to take the final. He does have quizzes every friday...really easy.
mullets are sexy, ow ow ow!
open book/notes at CLAS!! Also dropped 5 or 6 questions off of each test. Its easy to get over 100% in this class!
I like him. He's kind and helpful. I would definitely suggest him. He's different from most other professors in a good way.
You got to love this class. There is a quiz every week, but they are easy. He gives you the questions to the tests. Plus, all tests are open book. Everyone should get an A in this class. Plus, you have to love his mullet.

Great guy! Lectures are descent. Quizzes are pretty fair, and exams are nothing to sweat over.
very easy class. lectures are pretty boring with the occassional highlight (ie: when he started singing missy elliott's work it)very understanding, open note open book tests at CLAS. if anything, the most amusing part about him is the mullet.
Dr Carroll is a genius and gets his message across in an easy to understand way. Loads of extra credit make it almost impossible to do poorly. Great teacher.
This class was ridicuously easy. What the hell is the point of a class that is open book/open note?? I didn't learn anything
Lectures are boring, lots of video clips. Exceptionally easy, no final exam. extra credit on all quizzes!
Who wouldnt want a teacher with a mullet!! he is very boring to listen too and says um way too much....but its such an easy class...lots of extra credit and open note books and a quizzes every week. and you can get an a only going to class once a week.
So so easy. Yes, tests were all open book open notes, even in the testing center, but I learn way more that way. Very good technique for teaching. Class was extremely boring.
Super easy...open note and book tests...you can even print out practice tests in the library that have the exact questions as the test. Plus his mullet is quite amusing.
There is no more open note and open book tests so this class sucks now!!!
bad teacher, never talkes about the book, there are no more open book or note tests anymore, lectures dont make any sense, lecutres are not on the tests.
lectures don't cover much of the reading and he pulls his questions from, somewhere adn i can't figure out where!
I HAVE MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT JIM, HE IS VERY HELPFUL AND FUNNY SOME DAYS AND OTHERS HE CAN BE A REAL JERK. I GUESS IF YOU SUCK UP AND GET ON HIS GOOD SIDE, YOU'LL BE OKAY. HE GIVES A LOT OF EXTRA CREDIT, WHICH IS A PLUS.
He doesnt cover much of the book. but his tests and quizes are right from the parctice tests. its not hard and the papers are short.
beginning was a lot of fun, but hes very stuck on himself and acts like hes above a 100level class, doesnt seem too prepared sometimes either, exams are really hard but quizzes are easy, work is easy, you can BS a lot of it, didnt like him much personally
the way he teaches is weird...he teaches by telling stories. the work is very easy and papers are very easy you can bs alot and get and A. But exams are very hard and quizes are some what easy
he's an awesome teacher. Coming into college, i hated psychology but am now going to minor in it. he makes psych fun:D
I had this teacher for an online class at a community college, Abnormal Psychology. It was awful. Every question I had went unanswered, and the final grade he gave me was wrong, I had to email him about it, for him to give me the rest of my points :(
REALLY easy course! Professor Carroll presented the material in some weird ways (personal stories, etc.) but the quizzes and assignments were easy. Study for those exams, though!
aha, this class was a joke. he lecutured mostly about himself and i fell asleep almost every class. somehow, i was able to get an A. just study your practice book and you will do well. i won't forget his sweet mullet or the broadway singing.
Great Professor. Tests are open book and open notes. Teaches in a way no other prof in the department teaches.
Tells lots of stories and makes Psych interesting. Is a pretty funny guy. You'll have to read the book for an A. The term paper is a lot easier than most other Psych professors assign. I reccomend him over anyone else. Lots of exta credit available!
NOTHING Carroll talks about is ever on the test. EVERY question on the test was on the online practice test. Just take it and print it out and youve got an "all answer" study guide. Going to class is pointless except for tests and quizzes. Way
The class was simple with the online quizs to help you, but the lack of a challenge exsisted. He always seemed full of himself.
Easy Class, just pay attention and show up you should have an A
So easy! www.mhhe.com/passer2 is all you need for this class. the tests and quizzes are word for word from the practice exams on the website. you don't even have to pay attention during class, most people sleep then wake up for the quiz.
Take this prof. His class is really easy and he has some good stories. You get a cd with the book and it has all of your exam questions. It is an easy A if you just read through the questions before the test. Only 3 assignemts to go with it. Small quizes once a week but they are just as easy.
This was such an easy class! He is a great professor! He lets you out of class early gives you the answers on some quizes and the exams SO easy! Take this class if you can you will get an A!
He is an awesome teacher and you learn a lot and the tests and quizzes are very easy. He tells some really good stories also!
Really cool guy! Tests and quiz questions are all straight from chapter review on cd rom. Lectures are really interesting. Lots of extra credit is offered. Attendance isn't mandatory. I loved this class! Dr. Caroll is my favorite prof. I highly recommend this class to anyone who's interested in psy!
VERY COOL. HE GIVES A WEB SITE AND YOU TAKE ONLINE QUIZES TO STUDY AND THE TEST AND QUIZES THAT HE GIVES YOU IN CLASS ARE THE SAME THING AS YOU WERE TESTED ON THE INTERNET. YOU DONT HAVE TO EVEN GO TO CLASS. HE EVEN CANCELED THE LAST 3 CLASSES OF THE SEMESTER. TEST ARE OPEN BOOK TOO.
Carroll is crazy! Nothing he talks about is on the tests...but tests are all open book! Only go to class on wed b/c there are quizzes. Take the online quizzes and you should be okay! You basically teach yourself...so if you like that then go for it.
This guy is a nut, but his class is super easy. All tests are open book and are the exact same questions as the online quizes. Easy A. His lectures are kind of boring, you watch a lot of movies, but he cancels class a lot and attendence isn't mandatory.
One of the easiest classes I've ever taken. You don't even really need the book, just study from the website he gives you. Test and quiz questions are taken straight from that.
Very easy Class
Not only is he crazy, but the class is pointless and you sit there wondering what the hell is going on. BUT if it's easy you want, he's your guy. But still. CRAZY.
THere is not much point in going to class except on days when there are quizes and exams. For almost all of the semester I did, but it didn't help any. Terribly easy class to pass, just memorize answers from online questions.
Really nice guy and a good teacher. Can be boring at times though. Make sure to read the book because that's where his quizzes come from. All questions on the test are from the online quizzes so make sure to take them.

Can't stand him. The class is a waste of time.
He is a great professor.
Boring
He can go off topic but very funny and nice.
Do not take this class if you have intrest in the psy field, he will go off on tangents not related to class and sometimes you cant even get through his lectures. The test have nothing to do with what was discussed in class. Its a waste of my hard earned moeny and if i could do it all over again i wouldnt!
If your going into Psychology don't take him. You won't learn anything. He gives lectures that have nothing to do with the tests or quizzes, so make sure you study and read the book. But very very funny guy!
Just read the book and takes notes, and you'll do fine. His quizzes and exams have nothing to do with his lectures, so don't try to learn from them. But he is a funny guy, and has some funny lectures, so you won't fall asleep. When it comes to computers, he's dumb as a stump, and it's hilarious. But he's a good guy.
Carroll is a pretty funny guy. He doesn't really know what's going on around him, and he can't figure out how to work the overhead, ever. It's pretty hilarious. Anyways, if you read the book and use the study outline, you will get an A. His lectures don't have anything to do with his tests. Reading the text is a must.
Such an easy class with Carroll! All the exams are open book, 1 quiz a week which are easy, and the lowest 3 get dropped, and a lot of times he 'hints' you can work on them together by walking out of the room, or he gives them as group quiz. Really interesting, has good movies to show. Grades extremely easy on the 3 assignments and 1 paper.

He took over our class for an ill prof (Motivation and Emotion) and I really like him. He tries to make class interesting, he sings to us, and uses lots of group activities and interesting movies. It is a grad level class so there is a bit of work involved (10 pg research paper) and his tests are kind of detailed but all in all, I like him
I really liked this class. He is the kind of guy that might put you to sleep once and a while but he has some funny stories if you listen. His grading is really good. Im taking him for another class next semester i liked him so much.
He is a pretty good teacher... His stories can be very interesting, and his class is pretty easy with the open book tests. He doesn't respond to emails though, and at times his lectures have nothing to do with the quizzes. Overall, its not too bad.
Awesome prof, awesome Class! VEry funny and has great stories. You dont have to attend very many classes to still do well. 2 exams that are OPEN BOOK OPEN NOTE, 3 assignments and 1 final paper total the work, with a quiz once a week that are VERY easy. 3 lowest quiz grades are dropped, and allows 50 xcredit points!
Rock the Mullet!Good guy, didnt learn much about psycology other than his experiences. Open book everything is easy as pie! Easy A
This class sucked. It was held in a lecture hall, so he doesn't get to know you. He never spoke into the microphone, so those of us in back could never hear him. Monday's are lecture days, Wednesdays are quiz days. It is pointless to go on Monday's, he talks about his life experiences...nothing relating to psychology. Easy class, boring prof.
He tells hillarious stories, and has really great intro's. Is interesting during class. Did NOT go along with the book - had lecture and we were responsible for material on our own. Wrote his owns tests - BAD TESTS! (d: all of the above, e: none of the above...and matching people to theories, useless!) Nice guy, a little...ready for retirement
He has really interesting stories from his work but doesn't lecture on the material from the book, which he does test on. Just read the chapter and you'll do fine, not too difficult of a class.
Not the best, but certainly not the worst. Mondays are lectures, Wednesdays are quizzes. If you sit in the back you can use your book on the quiz. He grades the papers hard, but the 3 homeworks assignments are EASY. Open book tests, but don't be fooled, they are HARD! However, I learned that [almost] every ? comes from the green definition boxes
He was pretty cool, able to keep most of us awake at times by randomly screaming or something. Exams were tough, but the book and notes made it a little easier. Easy extra credit.
One word for this guy....****!!!!! You learn everything yourself and don't expect any help from him! Quizzes every week, he never lectures on the material that he covers on them.Completely UNORGANIZED! Never knows what he is talking about half the time. Sit up-close because he NEVER uses a microphone! Good LUCK, you will regret having him!
Read the book and you'll do fine in this class. He doesn't lecture on all the material you need to know for the quizes every week, but the tests are open book. Taking notes isn't really worth it, just read the chapter.
Worst Prof I have probably ever had. Tests are open book open note, but don't expect to know what will be on them! He doesn't teach a thing, there is no point to shwing up to class.. I have never missed and still did horrible.. READ THE BOOK!
Um hi the tests are absoulutly rediculous. 100 multiple choice question tests, open book open note doesnt mean ANYTHING. Class average was a 50 % for the first test AND HE WON'T CURVE. His lectures are retarded and have nothing to do with whats going to be on the test, theyre all just his personal stories. YOU WILL FAIL, I REPEAT,YOU WILL FAIL.
Carroll has interesting stories, but lectures are sometimes pointless. Often cancels class. Tests in 250 are open book, but VERY detailed, read the book!
He is horrible. All he does is talk about himself. His lectures don't help and the outlines he makes are horrible and unhelpful.
All he does is talk about himself and babbles about random stuff. He is not helpful at all. He never responds to emails and he gets very angry if "stupid" questions are asked.
This man is easily the worst teacher I have ever had in any level of school. It is pointless to actually go to class as he only talks about nonsense that won't appear on tests. I have**** things that are more educational that his lectures. He had assignments scheduled but cancelled them out of laziness. Words cannot describe how terrible he is
HE IS HORRIBLE!! He only talks about himself nothing relating to the tests. Everything must learned on your own by reading the book. Class is pointless to go to. This class should be called Jim Carroll 101 because thats all his lectures are about. DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES EVER!
I was so excited to go into this class, but I definatly was disappointed. I didn't learn anything from him. You can tell he enjoys psych, but I don't think he's the best at teaching it. He's not a bad guy, just a bad teacher. If you really want to learn abnormal psych, don't take the class with him, you'll be disappointed.
Very easy class
Jim Carroll is a terrible person and an even worse teacher. No one learns anything because he lectures about how he use to go to Michigan State. I learned more about his personal history than I did about psychology. He thinks he is God's gift to the world, so he doesnt listen to anyone if they have a problem with him. Central should fire him, now!
you can tell he loves psychology but he spends most of the class telling personal stories and he can be very boring. all the tests were open book and as long as you turn in the assignments he gives you getting a good grade is a piece of cake.
This class is SUPER easy. Not too bad of a prof, and he means well but his lectures are boring. No need to take notes, all the quizzes are out of the books. I went to only one of my classes a week and got over a 100%.
i was really excited to take the class however he ruined it. he is without a doubt the worst prof. i have ever had. i got an A in the class but it barely makes up for the fact that he is paid to tell stories to us about working in a prison. he is horrible.
This guy is in idiot. He does not know how to teach. He would have been fired, but he always forgets to hand out the SOS forms...
he's a nice professor to be around. he's funny and offers a lot of help. i look forward to his class
He didn't really teach at all. Mostly talked about his family and the volunteer stuff that he's into. Exams are not fun but are SUPPOSED to be all from the book. Teach yourself and read a lot because he doesn't have a curve. Good luck. Don't take him if you don't have too!
In class he will tell interesting stories but you will learn nothing. He will sometimes use the overhead but it is VERY unstructured and will not help you. The tests are on the most detailed crap that isn't even the main focus of the chapters. He is rude and doesn't care if everyone fails.DO NOT TAKE HIM! Seriously just look at all his bad reviews!
Professors are supposed to be either professional or interesting. Dr. Carroll thinks he's professional, making frequent arrogant mention to his prestige, and apparently thinks he's interesting. In real life he's tedious and practically incompetent.
Ever wonderded how someone could ruin something as interesting as psychology? Okay, then take his class.
He was a pretty bad teacher. He was so boring and his lectures are point less. But all of his exams are open book and notes.
He does talk about himself alot. However, what do you expect? His life relates to the class topics. He make the material and class itself fairly easy compared to other psych profs. There is a quiz every Wednesday, but nothing to stress about. Id advise taking him. I really enjoyed the class and got a straight A.
This class is really easy if you just read the chapters in the book. There is a quiz every Wednesday but it is only 10 pts and they are super easy. The exams are all open note and book. He talks about himself a lot and the class isn't that exciting but it's easy.
What a HORRIBLE professor. He seems like a great PERSON, but this man should NOT be teaching, especially this class. His exams were open book/open note, and I (a straight A student) still failed every one. His answers contradicted the book. For your own sake, DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Not bad.He doesnt teach about anything and it took me 2 exams to realize that.Goin to lecture is pointless unless you have to take the chapter quiz.To get an A just go through the chapter and make sure u know where everything is cuz exams are open book.I didnt learn alot and came out with a B+.He curves at the end of the term and u come out on top.
Dr. Carrol is the definition of FAIL. He never applies anything to what you need to know for his class. The Tests are easy because they are open book, but the weekly quizes he gives will keep you busy with reading. He will offer a lot of extra credit and this is how I got an A+. I'm rating a professor tho, and hes no good.
He told stories about his friends in jail or in the psy ward. Didn't teach anything out of the book. Open book exams but were extremely hard questions they questions are hidden in the text. Not recommended!
PSY 100 was easy. Just go every Thursday for the quiz..and take your book for the tests. I rarely read, and had an 88%. I did the extra credit and got a 99% in the class. His mullet is kind of distracting.
He is great!!!!!!!!!
he is not a good teacher. he doesnt explain anyting in his boring lectures. the lectures are useless he is useless
James Carrol is the worst teacher I have ever had. He does not care for any student that he has. You get extra credit but it is not worth having this horrible professor. He is the worst, do not take him.
Nice guy, boring lectures. Go only on quiz/exam days. Exams open books but questions are really specific so study a little bit. Don't waste time taking notes, totally useless! Says exam is over ch. 11-14 (example) and exam is really over ch. 10-14. Totally unorganized as far as class goes. Choose someone else if possible.
80 points extra credit, oen book/note tests. quizes each week wth extra credit on each one. great teacher and easy a. reccomend to everyone
Psych class was usually fun. He has a lot of interesting stories. Don't goof off or doodle. Somehow he can catch you doing it. Thankfully I wasn't one of those kids, but I wouldn't want to be called out on during class. His quizes are easy if you read the material or show up for the classes. The tests aren't too bad either.
He is a very odd teacher. He never actually teaches about what is on the tests or quizes you literaly have to read the book to pass the quizes but the tests are all open book/open notes. You can get 50 EC points so it is a simple class.
ok prof... i got c's on all of my exams and ne where from c's- a's on the quiz's.. there were a couple of papers but it wasnt bad at all .. he is pretty east on grading the papers but i ended up with a a- in the class so it was worth it
He is by far one of the best teachers at Central. He's entertaining and has real life experience. The class is easy- bring your book on exam days. For those who said quizes are hard, listen to the lecture because the information comes DIRECTLY from them. EASY and interesting. The reason I changed my major to Psychology.
VERY EASY but I learned NOTHING!! I had over 100%. You only need to go one day a week and that is to take the 10pt quizzes. Open book tests and up to 50 ex credit points for doing studies.
You only really have to go one day and that is quiz day. He drops your three lowest quiz scores. He wasn't very understanding of my learning disability at all and wouldn't work with me about it. I would like for a Psychology teacher he would of been a little bit more understanding about it, but no....
The teacher dosent talk about material on the quiz or test really. You are on your own to study, no study guides so basically know everything, a paper at the end of the semester, do the extra credit you'll need it.
Interesting teacher, going to Tuesday classes isn't really necessary, just interesting. The thursday quizzes are easy if you skim over the chapter summaries. Tests are hard though, don't let open book fool you.
This Guy is weird. Not only can he be rude at times he also has no Idea how to grade. I kept geting C's on the exams, Which happen to be open book. I didnt think to much into it tho because I never had enough time to actually find all answers. The final he gave me a D when I found every answer in the book. I complained and He gave me an A for the c
Lectures can be really boring, but if you want to read the text book, going to class on Tuesday isn't necessary. He's an okay guy, just can make you fall asleep sometimes.
Prof Carroll is a really funny guy! his lectures are interesting but have little information that you will find on quizzes or exams! Reading the chapters are a must in order to do well! There is a quiz every week and tests are open book and open note but they are very tricky so i would still recommend studying! overall hes a good prof!
It is pointless to go to his lectures but it is extremely important to take each chapter quiz. The tests are open book. Make sure you check blackboard for his assignments and papers because he rarely tells the class about them. One pointer would be to do the extra credit early in the semester its up to 50 points.
Horrible. Absolute self-centered moron.
This class is pretty easy if you go
HE is SOOOOO EASY! so easy that i am taking of this classes next semester. YOu only need to go once a week. THe quizes are really easy.
Dr. Carroll is easy to get along with, and gives out fairly easy and interesting assignments. Grading in the class is very easy, exams are open book, and lectures are well prepared. Although I am not a psych major I enjoyed this class and would recommend Dr. Carroll.
Dr. Carroll is funny and really easygoing. He really likes the subject and gives great examples, and life experiences. He also has so good video clips that help understand the subject better. His test are kinda hard but are open book, just remember to study before.
honesly take him! you dont have to go to monday class ever. papers you will get 100%. exams you get to use your book and notes and basically everything you can find! i guess all you have to do is read and you will learn alot. He prob used to be hot also ;)
Class was unnecessary. Just show up on the last day for the quiz. Read the chapters and do the study guides and its a guarantee A on all exams! Classes put me to sleep, but it worked out because I needed a nap time anyways. Assignments are interesting. Videos were boring!
Pretty easy class, monday lectures are useless, 10question quiz every wednesday, exams are open book open note,no one really takes notes tho so kinda now where things are in the book so you dont run out of time, learn to use an index, glossary, and name glossary, exam saviors
One of the best professors I've had. The course is very easy and like everyones said you only need to go to Wednesday classes to take the quizes. One paper at the end that was easy. Exams arn't bad either. Easy A.
If you're looking for an easy A, this is a class for you. If you're looking to actually learn something, take someone else. He relied too much on GAs and I don't think he graded one of our assignments himself. His lectures can be interesting, but are not vital to success in the class.
He is an ok teacher but not very helpful or clear and his TA's do everything.
Make sure you attend quizzes, but he drops the worst three. Do the extra credit it will help you in the end. He has open book exams which helps a lot! Take good notes and you will do fine. Don't wait for the last minute to do the term paper.
I had Professor Carroll for Intro to Psych. It was an easy class, you don't even have to go the first day of the week. His lectures are pointless and his exams are open book. Good teacher to take for an easy grade. Also, he doesn't say much about the assignments in class, make sure to check blackboard. And you need the book.
Dr. Carroll is an amazing teacher. He gives regular quizzes over each chapter but if you read the text it's easy points. The exams are open book, open note and are fairly easy. He also drops your two lowest scores and will allow up to 50 easy extra credit points. I loved the class and found it very easy to get a good grade.
Has Really Intresting Stories about when he was a Psychologist in a Max-Prison in Canada
Dr.C is legit. Open book, open note tests. He puts a stud guide in the library for the tests...and they are the exact questions on the test, you just have to complete the packet. 50 points of extra credit available. There are 3 easy assignments. Be sure to read the book for your weekly 10 pt quiz. I've learned a lot, and he's funny! :)
open book exams. one quiz every week on the chapter. graze over the chapter pay attention to the definitions and the 10pt quizzes are fine. 3 papers and a term paper. 3 papers are not too hard term paper is a lil harder depending on the topic u decide to do it on. nice guy. but i just looked thru the book during class. it worked out better tht way
Dr. Carrol is an okay teacher. The exams are open book, but doesn't mean that they are that easy. Weekly quizzes, but there not that hard. The lecture on tuesday is useless so you don't have to go. The only problem with Dr. Carrol is that he is boring. Be prepared to sit through a boring lecture, but easily class if you want a good grade.
Had interesting stories to tell when he was working in a max-prison but his tests are really hard. He started putting up study guides and they were VERY helpful/the same as the test. It does take a while to do though. His final term paper is hard too so don't wait til the last minute to do it. DO the extra credit, it'll save you in the end!
Very nice guy, but he tends to wander off into his own little world at time and talks about himself and his family rather than the discussion of the chapter. weekly quizzes, so make you attend class to take those. three writing assignments are not hard, and the term paper in the end isn't bad. exams are open book, but tricky.
Dr. Carrol is the best prof, i have had. I tock into, 220, and 250 with him. I got an A in all 3. Open book exams, quizes every week.Do the study guide. its exactly word for word on the exam! Drops the lowest 2 quizes! TAKE HIM
This guy sucks. His lectures are interesting, but they never cover test material. Make sure you read chapters thoroughly each week before class. Do all the extra credit you can. His exams are impossible without the book/notes (take detailed notes). I would strongly recommend you not take him, but you might survive if you memorize the textbook.
He seemed like a nice person and very knowledgeable about the subject but should not be teaching. His lectures had nothing to do with anything and the quizzes suck too. The exams are impossible if you don't memorize the study guides. I was really excited about this class but very disappointed afterward.
He should not be teaching. Every single point in his lecture is pointless, it's actually detrimental to attend class. Not one single thing he ramble on about for 4 weeks was on the first test, and it was NOT open book. The class avg for test one was a 60%, no way did everyone in that class "study wrong". Find a different prof.
Of course, the semester I take his class he decides to discontinue open book tests and then when the entire class fails, he lectured us about how he has never in his 1,000 years of teaching had to offer a re-take. WELL OF COURSE NOT. Exams are extremely detailed & he takes forever to post grades & respond to e-mails.
As I'm sure people have stated, Carroll's lectures are POINTLESS, they hardly cover anything on the exam. You basically have to learn by yourself, from the book, exams are straight from it. Some of the things he talks about are interesting, but irrelevant. Nice guy though, and can be a bit funny.
Nice guy but don't take him if you want to actually learn from your professor. His lectures are completely pointless and have nothing to do with what is on the exams.
He's a cool guy but the lectures are not very relevant to what will be on your exams. The exams are straight from the book, and very difficult. His lectures will not help you on the test, unfortunately. However, it is easy to recover from bad test scores by doing all the assignments and taking advantage of the extra credit!
He is kind of funny sometimes but his lectures are completely pointless. Sometimes the lectures are relevant to what your learning about but you won't see it on the exam. Attendance is not mandatory. 5 assignments and 5 exams and 1 optional exam. If you review the study guides and read the book (exams are directly from the book) you will get an A
You dont need to go to class. The first exam everyone bombed because he didnt post a study guide. The rest of the exams were pretty much straight off the study guide. The five assignments are relatively easy and can bring up your grade. Extra credit is available too.
This class was horrible for me, i felt like every class period was pointless you watch movies in almost every class and the exams are nothing to do with what he talk about, the exams are extremely wordy and tough to pass, you have to read the book in order to even come close to passing, i strongly recommend a different teacher
This class was difficult, but he realized that the exams were hard, so he gives a lot of extra credit and makes it very easy to pass the class. He is really funny and understanding. Good teacher.
He loved going off on tangents and making you feel awkward but he was a nice guy. Didn't expect the toughness of the tests but the study guides are from the book and actual questions on tests were directly from the study guide. Not very helpful on assignments...leaves you on your own.
Lecture style class. Test are from a different edition than required for class. The study guides are the key to passing do not save them for the night before, because tests are directly from the guides. He will not help with questions. Earn 6 Sona credits for 60 points in the class. Likes psychology, but not the best teacher. Love psyc and got a A.
I was really looking forward to this class, and Dr. Carroll has made it a nightmare. His quizzes every week have absolutely nothing to do with his lectures. His tests are based entirely on the study guide. For our first test, he was "too busy" to make us one. I'm sorry, how much are we paying for this class? You have time to make a study guide.
Terrible Terrible Terrible Terrible teacher. I was excited to be in my first psych class. But thanks to this guy, I'm never taking another one again. His expectations are beyond what most people can do.(Memorizing 200+ vocab words in 2 days for example). I absolutely hated this class. I would have to say this is the worst Prof I have EVER had.
This guy made my first semester awful. He gives you 40 page study guides and expects you to remember all of it so he can quiz you on half of it. I did very poorly on tests even tho i read the chapters and studied. Only the papers and extra credit saved my grade. He goes on tangents and doesn't even stay with the chapters in the text at all. RUN
what a terrible teacher!! He's rude and could make any remotely interesting topic a snore fest. Tests and papers were a breeze if you do the study guides, but those quizzes really killed me, there was no good way to study for them either. Don't take him if possible!
the quizzes were hard!! theres no way to know what is on them! just do the study guides because the tests are straight from them!! every question on the exams are ones on the guides. not hard to get an A on the tests... but im failing the quizzes.. only 10 points right?
I only went to Thursdays in this class because you have a quiz every thursday. They're decently easy quizzes. The professor talks with his microphone down to his knees and rambles on about random stuff. You don't learn anything in this class, however the exams are really easy as long as you study off of the study guides. No one listened to me when
I thought that he was a great teacher, I found the lectures very interesting. The quizzes were pretty difficult, but the assignments and exams were very easy. The class was overall pretty easy but I learned a lot. Can't wait to take another of his classes!
I thought that he was really nice. He's really understanding. I slept in for our first quiz and after running to get to class i got there as he was about to leave, but he laughed when i said my alarm didn't go off and let me take the quiz anyway. Quizzes are really unpredictable, but he takes exam questions directly off the study guide he posts.
Your major grades are 5 assignments and 4 exams. For the exams he posts study guides which have 200 ?s, and 50 of those exact ?s go on the actual exam so study those hard when u go to the study session and get the answers there 3days before the exam. The assignments are mostly 3 page papers. There is a quiz every week I dont study & get 4/10 no big
The guy is quite the character. His lectures have almost nothing to do with what he puts on his weekly quiz. You dont have to go to class, except for quiz day. Just read the chapter and do the study guides for exams. They're long but he uses exact questions on the exam. He tends to be a jerk sometimes.
DO THE STUDY GUIDE!there usually 20+ pages long, but you can find all the questions from the exams(exams are prolly like 50 questions)on the study guide in almost exact words. His lectures have almost nothing to do with the weekly quizzes, so you dont need to go. papers are easy to get a good grade on, and only about 2 pages long for each. easy point
I found him to be very rude. Class wise, first class period of the week isn't necessary to go to. Lectures have little to do with quiz content, snore fest. You'll rely heavily on the book to complete the study guides for the exams (do it!). Easy assignments and exams are easy to pass. Quizzes kill. If you can deal with his attitude then go for it.
Ok. The class? Easy. You only have to go to his Wednesday/Thursday classes. Just do the assignments and the study guides and DEFINITELY the extra credit and you'll be fine. Dr. Carroll? Rude, boring, and could care less about an undergrad.
He's a character. Easy class, you don't have to show up except for wednesday/thursday. You'll only use the book for the study guide, and you do actually learn it. He's horrendously off topic during class, but it's no big deal because the credit is easy and he's not that bad of a guy.
His TA's run the entire class! He honestly just shows up and stands in the front of the class. Every once in a while he decides to talk or show a useless video. I had to take this class for my major....but if you dont have to i wouldn't.
If you have to take PSY 220, take him. He's not very friendly and he never answers e-mails but it's the easiest class ever. You only have to go on W/R to take the quizzes. Lecture is pointless. Study guides are the exams and it can all be found in the book so do them and study them. Extra credit is easy and so are the assignments. Easy A
Caroll was a terrible teacher and I do not suggest taking him. Each study guide was 20-26 pages long, and his lectures we not related to anything you needed to know. Do not take this class!
I was in his PSY 100 and PSY 220 classes. Everyone keeps saying not to take him but i disagree. I got above 100% in both classes simply because I did my work. Yes, he's not a very good teacher, but the class is super easy. Do the study guides, assignments, and SONA credit. You will get an A guarenteed.
He's not a great teacher because he's always going on about something that's not exactly relevant, but it's a suuuuuper easy class & I recommend taking it.
Horrible teacher. all we do is watch youtube videos. i would advise that you dont take his class. the exams are questions right off the study guide tho
Attendance is not mandatory, but he gives quizzes every week over one chapter. Exams are easy if you study the review. Class lectures are pointless. He shows random videos and powerpoints that often don't really have any relevance.
Monday lectures are pointless. Gives a quiz once a week on Wednesday over the chapter, but they're easy. Exams are straight off the study guide. Has three assignments that are all 1-2 page papers that are super easy. Do the study guide and you will pass the class.
He has good intentions, but this class isn't the greatest. There is a quiz once a week over material that he doesn't talk about in class, so you have to actually read the chapters. Study guides are over 200 questions, but the exams are taken straight from those, so I suggest doing them. A lot of opportunities for extra credit, so that's nice.
He was super easy to get an A in, quizzes on Wed for Mon/Wed class, never went to class on Mon...
Class consisted of whatever personal story he decided to tell for the day accompanied by some Youtube videos he felt were pertinent. Material is completely self-taught and I have suspicions that the tests are generated from banks of questions from the textbook manufacturer. TA's did all the work, including when he left for 2 weeks unannounced.
Overall this class was not too bad. There is a 10 point quiz every week, so you only really need to show up on the quiz day. Exams are straight off of the study guides. You can earn up to 50 points of extra credit and there is an optional final. Class makes it extremely easy to get an A.
Dr. Carroll shows respect for students, most of the lectures are boring but the tests are 50 questions picked off from a 200 question study guide that he puts up on Bb. Additionally sona credits can give you a lot of extra credit. I ended up with a 110% in this class.
He was very rude to students, yelled at someone almost every class, and only taught from hastily made powerpoints. Only go to class on Wednesdays for the quiz and to turn assignments in, it isn't worth sitting there listening to him yell. I would not recommend him even though I got an A in the course.
He does a lot of work outside of class for education in other countries which is admirable. Tests aren't well written but from the study guides. Reading the book is necessary and class can be entertaining with his videos and stories that pertain to the material. This is an easy class if you read the material.
Carroll is good. One day will be lecture day and the second day is quiz day. Attendance is not mandatory but, i recommend it. As long as you memorize study guides and read the book, you will do fine on an exam. Plus you get extra credit.
Terrible professor. Was not helpful whatsoever during office hours. Talked about many random topics during class time.
Dr. Carroll is a very good teacher. His lectures can be boring, but if you can read the book and teach yourself you don't have to attend class. He gives you a study guide with 150 questions and takes 50 questions for the exam. I would recommend him if you are interested in Psychology.
If you're going to take psychology 100 take it with Carroll. You dont have to attend classes and as long as you memorize the study guides for the tests you will get an A on them. Its very simple compared to other psychology teachers.
He is a very easy going guy and very nice, but he is not helpful at all. he has no clue what is in the book or on the tests. You can miss every class, but as long as you read the chapters, you will pass. there is 1 quiz a week. I hated the class because it's boring and you dont learn anything from lecture. he doesnt give you time for notes either.
Super easy class. Lectures are boring, don't bother going on Monday. Take notes on the chapter or read his powerpoints on blackboard for Wednesday's quiz. Memorize the study guide and you'll do fine. Easy extra credit and the papers are super easy. If you want an A then take this class.
terrible teacher, class sucks, and is pointless, quizes are hard also
I will give Dr. Carroll a little benefit of the doubt because this is the first PSY310 psychological testing online class at CMU. With that being said, I am a Psych senior, and the textbook is incomprehensible. Further, Every student in the class made it very clear on the discussion boards that they flat out failed the tests. Avoid at all Costs.
Just go to Thursday's class to be there for the quizzes. Exam questions come from the study guides. The lectures are useless though. Not a bad class, you just probably won't use any of the information you learn.
Only go to class on Wednesdays, there are quizzes every Wednesday. Lectures are pointless. Read the book.
This class was super easy! I got a 104 on my final exam and an overall grade of a 106 from the whole semester. He made study guides that were 600 questions long, but they questions and answers were word for word on the exam and they gave all the answers at SI sessions. He often got answers wrong but the class was worth it. Take him!
Nice man yet extremely inconsistent and unreliable. I must have sent 5 emails that were not responded. You can easily get by if you go to class and do the study guides. Gives you a 200 question study guide for exams and picks about 50 to put on. Good guy and very witty at times yet hard to get a hold of. No rubrics for papers but they are easy A's
Easy A, but he's not a good prof. He lost one of my exams and was impossible for me to get ahold of. I emailed him multiple times with no response and went to his office hours twice to find it empty. I finally got a grade the last week of classes for it. I barely went to class..just fill out the study guides & your good.
Great Prof!!!!
He is a great Professor and is truly passionate about teaching. Carroll is easy to understand and explains everything well. If you do the study guides you will get an easy A
He is a prof. His lectures are pretty good if you are interested in the subject. He shows a good amount of videos during lectures. There is a quiz every Wednesday and 5 overall assignments during the course of the semester. Exams are the exact same as the review. Easy to get an A on the exams.
This professor does not teach. All you do is watch movies and take quizzes and tests. The study guides are ridiculously long and he does not post answers online. He is impossible to get ahold of. Out of the 5 emails I sent him this semester he responded to one on the first week of class.
Very easy class. He gives you a study guide for each exam and takes 50 questions from it. He gives up to 50 points of extra credit and adds it to your total score. Really nice man, I recommend taking this class!
Dr. Carroll teaches with an old fashion style. I can see how some students don't like his teaching, but overall he is a good guy and I enjoyed having him as a prof. If you do the study guides you will get 100's on every test and his tuesday classes aren't required. Definitely recommend him!
Dr. Carroll is a super easy professor. I finished the class with 120%. He is very boring because you just watch movies in class, but he knows his stuff and the class is an easy A. I would absolutely recommend him.
Good prof..we watched a lot of movies and videos, which some were more beneficial than others. If you read the textbook, you will learn a lot- he picked out a good one. Beyond easy exams if you do the study guides but quizzes require you do to the reading. Sometimes can be unclear but overall enjoyed his class
Nice man but very boring in class. Uses very outdated videos for the majority of the course material. However, this is a very easy A.
Carroll was extremely helpful. make sure to show up on wednesdays bc of the quiz . book wasnt used much do the study guides exam is straight off of it
read the book prior to quizes (small details are where the questions come from). Lectures suck but he's a really sweet guy and gives lots of extra credit in his class. Tests come straight from study guides. easy class and easy material.
He was very boring. no need to go to class on Mondays just take the quizzes and do the exam study guide
Class is very easy but very boring. There is a lot of extra credit and the work is high school level. Class is not necessary on Monday which is nice. The study guide questions are exactly the same on the exam which is VERY helpful.
Easy, but boring class. You can skip pretty much every Monday class if you have it on Monday and Wednesday. He wasn't very helpful when I emailed hi questions, but overall it is an easy class to get out of the way.
If you don't go its not a big deal but there is a quiz once a week worth 10 points but he lets you grade your own and gives you the answers at the end, so an easy 10 point. Plus his test are just like the study guide you just have to go to the review session to get the answers.
I really liked this class! Without a doubt you will get an A if you go to class and do study guides. His lectures are very interesting. He gives study guides for all exams--all the possible questions are on there. You grade the quizzes yourself. I highly recommend.
Tests are hard unless you do the study guide because it is word for word the study guide. Going to class is pointless except the second day of the week you have a quiz, thats the only motivation to ever go. you check your own quiz in class so its easy to do good on. 5 assignmentspapers throughout the semester. very easy, nothing unmanagable
Such a funny guy, made the class a lot more interesting. Decent class but you definitely have to put in the effort. Also gives multiple chances for extra credit. Loved this class.
If you want to actually learn Psych, then don't take him. His lectures are boring and off topic but you only have to go to Wednesday classes to take the quiz at the end. His exams are the same as the study guide but the study guides are 30 pages long. Doesn't take any attendance.
Honestly he's a pretty chill dude but his lectures are dry and super boring. You do not need to ever show up for class except on Wednesdays when there are quizzes. Lectures are posted online and give all the information you need while his lectures in person are often just pointless. You grade your own quizzes. Only 5 assignments. Super easy.
I would not take this class ever! He doesn't ever answer back emails, and the study guides are ridiculously long. Unless you can go to the study sessions and get the answers, you aren't going to get the answers right. You have to read the book, no doubt about it. Quizzes are every Wednesday, and you get to grade them yourself.
This class is probably the easiest class I've ever taken in my life. The quizzes are 10 questions each and you grade it yourself so you can change your answers. The exams are easy. He gives you a study guide and the study guide questions are the exact same ones on the actual exam. Use the textbook to study for exams not his power points!
This was the easiest psychology class I have taken. Don't bother buying the textbook or coming to the first class during the week. He has a quiz on the last class of the week, but is super easy. He also posts a study guide for each of his exams so its impossible to get less than an A on each one. Also his lectures are boring, so beware.
Carroll gives one quiz on the last day of the week but you can cheat on them. His lectures are pointless hours you could be doing literally anything else. You never have to do a thing except the once a month assignment and the study guide. The study guides have the same exact questions as the exams. DON'T BUY THE BOOK YOU CAN FIND IT ONLINE.
I loved Dr. Carroll, he was a great professor and his class was an easy A if you actually do the work like you're supposed to. Do the chapter reviews! It's basically the outline for the exams.
Such a fun class, James gets you interested in the subject. His review sheets are the best. Its impossible to fail this class.
You only have to show up for Wednesday classes because you take quizzes those days. The students are able to grade their own quizzes. Also, the exams are super easy! Also, you do not need a book for this class.
There are 5 assignments that are really easy. His exam comes directly from the study guides which made it much easier. Quiz every Wednesday and offers a lot of extra credit!
Overall, Carroll was a good professor. I took this to fulfill the UP requirement. Definitely an easy A if you do all five of the assignments and do well on the tests and quizzes. Quizzes are every Wednesday and not very hard. Tests are not hard either as long as you study the study guides he provides for you. Questions are word for word.
This class is super easy. I only ever went to class on Thursdays cause thats when we had examsquizzes. Gives you a study guide that is the exam word-for-word so as long as you do the study guide you'll do fine. Tends to give the entire class 1010 on quizzes. I wouldn't take this class if you actually want to learn something.
He is a great teacher. He is very engaging with the students. Dr. Carroll is a really nice guy that knows his topic and loves to teach it. He grades papers very well I never got less then a B on a paper. Studying is a necessity but over all a good class. optional Final.
He didn't care if you passed his class or not. The textbook is a must because how else are you going to teach yourself the material. Definitely a guy who know he has tenure.
Dr. Carroll is an awesome guy. His lectures are good, but you need to read for the exams, or study the exam questions he gives. He's really knowledgeable and would help with anything if you approach him.
If you do the study guides you are sure to pass! His quiz is identical! You only have to go to class once a week (To take the quiz). As long as you do the study guides you will pass no problem!
Tests are super easy. He gives you a study guide and it is the test exactly. However, he's kind of an idiot. His grading is unclear. I thought I was getting a B+ because of the points I had in the class but ended up with a C+ by some other weird calculations. He had 3 different point criterias going on. Very weird. I was extremely frustrated.
Carroll is definitely one of my favorite professors. I sat in the back of the auditorium when he lectured and literally could not hear a word he would say. I don't even know why I ever went to class. All of his assignments are an easy A. He gives huge exam reviews but if you do them they are word for word whats going to be on the exams.
There was a quiz almost every class but he gave away the answers so most people just wrote them down. His lectures are extremely long and boring, but the tests weren't too bad, I didn't look at the book much but I took intro to psych in high school so I remembered a lot of things. Don't come into his class late or he will call you out.
Professor Carroll is a nice professor. His teaching skills however are somewhat lazy. I can tell the power points he uses are right from the textbook. There are quizzes every week, and make sure you do the study guides for the exams if you want to pass them.
cool guy. you don't need to go to Monday classes. he only gives the quizzes on Wednesdays
Class is a joke. Easy A. Never went to class. theres 4 exams and he gives you a study guide that has 200 questions with a,b,c,d,e. Memorize them and you'll get an A on all 4 exams. The final is optional. There's quizzes every week due on Wednesday online on revel (find the answers on quizlet).Don't buy the book! His PSY 220 class is the exact same.
I could have never gone to class and still passed. Your grade is based off reading the chapter for the week, taking the chapter quiz, and watching a TED talk and posting on a discussion board. In lectures, Carroll either reads from PowerPoint slides or plays TED talks. Exams are word for word the review guide.
Easiest class I've taken at CMU. The exam reviews are the exact same as the tests- so do those and you'll pass with flying colors. He's kind of a quirky dude, but he's overall a good guy and I would definitely take him again.
There is no point in going to class. The weekly quizzes, discussions and readings are all online and all on your own, nothing he lectures about is worth knowing. You HAVE to complete the 200 question study guide if you want to pass the tests (he takes the questions right off of it.) Do the weekly work, do the study guide and you'll pass
Very easy, don't have to go to class to pass, just show up for the exams. Gives you study guides for all the exams that are the exact questions and answers pulled from the test. Lectures are pointless because he usually just shows TEDtalks. Only buy the online text, never used the printed version because weekly quizzes are taken in the online text.
Carroll's class is really easy. Tests are word for word from the study guide but he doesn't give you the correct answers but all of them are easy to find. His lectures are basically him talking and watching TED talks. He's a great guy though but lectures are kinda boring. Online quizzes once a week only 15 questions; pretty easy. Online book REQ.
James Carroll is the sweetest professor that I've ever had. His class is so easy and he loves talking about psychology. You'll definitely get an A if you study the study guides, do the online quizzes, and discussion boards. He drops the 2 lowest quizzes/discussions and the final is optional (it can replace a bad exam). I strongly recommend him!
He ruined my first psychology experience. His lectures are long and boring and usually have no real connection to the material. The study guides for the exams are always 150+ and the exam is usually 80. Quizzes every Wednesday and discussion board every Friday. The only good thing I can say it that the assignments are so consistent that's easy.
I literally went to class 6 times and got an 88% in the class. Lectures are absolutely pointless to go to. Quizzes online every Wednesday and as long as you do the exam review, you will do well on the exam. Offers tons of extra credit. Quite possibly the least amount of work I have ever put into a class.
Dr. Carroll is an awful teacher. He offers no help & I learned nothing. This class is an easy A and you don't need to attend class except for exam days, which the exam is exactly the same as the study guide so study that and you will do fine. Theres a decent amount of homework but it's all easy. I would not recommend this class if you want to learn
Dr. Carroll's class was a joke. I started off by going to class every time and quickly learned that was not at all necessary. I got a solid A just simply by doing the exam study guides and memorizing them. Questions on exams are straight from the study guide. 10 question quizzes online every Wednesday, easy discussions every Friday&optional final
Carrols class was a breeze. He gives the exam answers to you beforehand, optional final. If you do the weekly quiz and discussion you will get an A. Lectures are irrelevant to the class but also interesting
Professor Carroll is generally very boring and confusing. You do not even have to go to class to get a good grade. He flies through his slide shows and talks about random stuff. He shows a lot of videos and none of the material seems relevant to the class. The weekly quizzes and exam questions come right from the book (which contain the answers).
Carrol is a nice guy.. the book is online and the homework is easy, just a discussion board entry/ response on a Ted Talk. quizzes are a joke because all the answers are online just look on quizlet. on each exam he gives you about a 200 question review that is multiple choice and pulls 70-90 question right off the review for the exam.
Carroll's class for PSY220 is very easy, all assignments are online, and the answers are in the back of the book. Those same questions are the exam questions. If you and a friend or roommate are both taking the class split the cost of the book and share it, you only need it for the online assignments.
This class is the easiest thing I've ever experienced. There are weekly TED talks and quizzes and the answers for the quizzes are in the back of the book. There are 4 exams that come right from the study guides and the final is optional. He drops the 2 lowest quiz grades and offers 40 points extra credit. The only time I went to class was for exams
As others have already said, don't take PSY with Carroll if you want to learn anything. I showed up to class for the first 2 weeks only to realize that it was an absolute waste of my time. NONE of what was covered in lecture was on the exams, because he usually just showed random video clips. Use the study guides and memorize the Revel quizzes.
Super easy. You grade your own quizzes and he gives you the exact questions that are on the test before hand. Also questions for test answers are negotiable afterwards if you are wrong.
Carroll is the man. Funny dude and it could not be any more clear that he loves history with a passion. No tests, just papers and essays (which is good). Easy guy to talk to and definitely knows what he's talking about.
DO NOT GO TO CLASS, waste of time. everything you need to pass is online. he gives 200 question exam reviews and picks 50 questions from it for the exam. if your TA' s rock they will basically give you all the answers to the reviews so go to all review sessions before exams.
Dont need to go to class to get an A, tests come directly off of the study guide, he assigns alot of reading but you honestly dont need to do it, weekly quizzes that you get unlimited attempts on and the only real homework you have are ted talks due on friday, watch a interesting video and type up a short paragraph on it
Went to class for the first couple weeks to realize everything he talks about is on Blackboard. Weekly quizzes with online book and DQ with a tedtalk each chapter. 3 exams, 200 question study guide for each and he picks 50 to go on the actual exam Optional final at end to replace lowest score for 3 exams. TAKE HIM AS TEACHER, EASY A!!!
I really enjoyed having Dr. Carroll for this class. He's a great guy. And no, attendance isn't mandatory, but if you show up to the lectures, it's easier to remember stuff on the test. He's really funny too.
He is a pretty good professor. I would recommend taking psychology with him because he knows what he is talking about and it is an easy A. You have a ted talk discussion board and a quiz due every week. There are 3 exams and an optional final. The study guide is the same as the exam. The study guide has 200 questions and he puts 50 on the test.
I missed 2 TedTalks and 1 quiz because he assigns them every week. The weeks just kind of jumble up together and you forget to do them (trust me) it happens to a lot of the class. DO SONA STUDIES FOR EXTRA CREDIT. I got 60 points that way. It's almost always just sitting at a computer for a half hour, providing data for a psych student.
Do the review guides and you'll do fine on the exams. Weekly lecture is not mandatory, (I did attend every single one though and it helped )the only days that are mandatory are exam days. Carrol is a funny and sincere professor. There is weekly homework but, it's very easy.
Dr. Carroll states it's your education, so it's your decision to show up for it. I did attend class every week though I didn't have to. I found his material relevant and the lectures provided additional outside understanding that showed what the book was saying. You can pass without attending, but he brings more to the lecture than the book.
Honestly all the previous reviews summed up this class pretty well. I had a loose-leaf copy of the textbook and it helped when I was doing the study guides since the online version is difficult to navigate. I did the weekly Ted Talks in advance when I had higher priority things to do. Easy but somewhat interesting material.
Dr. Carroll is such a great guy and he's very passionate about his subject. However, much of his class was based around watching videos and we didn't usually talk about material from the text. Attendance wasn't mandatory and the only homework was a weekly quiz online and watching a TedTalk. Overall, it was an easy class.
You'll have weekly quizzes & TED Talks you have to do. Easy points. He gives you a study guide which has the same questions that are on the exam. He is pretty lecture heavy but passionate about teaching. He gets mad if people don't show up to class which makes it worse of those of us who do show up because we have to hear about it so just show up.
He is so dull. His voice will put you to sleep. The whole class period is him just talking in front of the screen meanwhile the notes are on blackboard. He gives exam reviews that are 200 questions long but no answer guide so you have no idea if you're studying the right thing or not. Good Luck.
Very easy class. Majority don't show up for class and do well. I went every day and got an A. Weekly quizzes online that are credit/no credit, ted talk videos, 4 exams, and an optional final. Exams are easy. A study guide is given to you with 200 multiple choice questions, 50 of those are the exam questions. Do the study guide and you'll do fine.
Loved him. Fill out the study guides for the exams and study them like crazy and you'll do well. Definitely recommend him over the other psychology professors -- from what I've heard on campus, he's the best and he teaches the material really well.
Easy A regardless of if you're taking 100 or 220. Don't buy the Ted Talk website, wait until others post the title on the discussion board shell and look it up on youtube. The online quizzes are credit/no credit and the exams are 50 of the 200 questions on the study guide. I did need to use the 220 book for the study guide.
Make sure to keep checking your grade! I had to retake his class because he gave me a D when I scored all a's and b's on his exams. It said in blackboard I had a b+ and he put a D on my transcript. Other than that he gives a LONG (200 question study guide) with the exam questions inside. Ted talks and quizzes each week. Pointless lectures in class.
Good Professor, but I do not like his teaching style becuase there is not need to go to class as he give you a 200 question study guide and only 50 will be on the exam so basically he is grade how well your memory is right? Can loook up the answers on google, some you can't but most are online. If you need this for a UP this will be a easy A.
Dr. Carroll was literally the easiest professor I have had in college. I only went to class on exam days. You have weekly TED talk discussion boards and weekly quizzes but the quizzes you get 4 tries to get the right answer. His exams are 50 questions, multiple choice and he takes them word by word from a 200 question study guide. Super easy!!!!
Easiest class I have EVER taken. Never went to class expect for exam days. Study guide has exact answers of exams. It is 200 questions, he takes 50 of those questions from the study guide and that is the exam. Exactly the same question, word order, and answer set up. Make flash cards and study those. Weekly quizzes that you get unlimited attempts.
Easiest class I ever taken at CMU. Make sure you do the online quizzes and discussion boards. Don't bother going to class, just do the study guide before the Exam and you will do fine.
Only went to class on exam days, partly because he puts all the answers to the exams in the study guide he gives you, partly because he was sometimes rude to students in class.
You don't need to show up at all. His lectures are pointless, plus his powerpoints are online. As long as you do the homework assignments online, you'll pass. Also, his tests are taken straight from the review we get so as long as you get the correct answers from the study session, you'll be good to go. Very nice professor though!
Dr. Carroll is not the professor to take for an online class. For a psychological testing class, his tests had the most obscure and specific questions. He expected us to know each reliability and validity coefficient for the exam, and there were hundreds! If you do take this class online, his test answers and questions are available on quizlet.
This was one of the easiest classes I took at CMU. I only showed up to class on the exam days, which was only like 4 days of the whole semester! The book for the class is online, and there are also online discussions and quizzes that were due weekly. The study guide is just a little over 200 questions, and he chooses around 50 of them right from it
This was a great professor, make sure you keep up with your online homework and you are set. Read through the study guide and you will pass! He is such a nice name and is willing to help if you're willing to put in a little bit of effort.
He is a unique professor. His exam didn't have things we learned on them though. He did give some random extra credit here and there, which was nice. This class is very heavy on statistics. I recommend taking PSY211 first.
He is the sweetest little old guy. 4 exams and 4 papers were the only things graded (plus a couple optional extra credit). Assignments and tests are straight forward, he doesn't word things weird or try to confuse you. You have to read if you want to do well though.
Four exams and three writing assignments were the only things graded for the class. I went to every class but I really should'nt have. Everything you need to know for the exams is in the textbook and I don't think he even takes attendance. He's very old and not very tech savvy, but the class was easy enough and he seems passionate about psych.
He only uses chatgpt. He writes things and posts them and claims that he wrote it, with the chatgpt watermark. The class is also ridiculously easy with the top person in my class having 286% that is not a typo
