HORRIBLE TEACHER! You cant understand anything he teaches. Doesnt explain clearly, boring lectures. Students correct him all the time. Doesnt give good help. Grades poorly, doesnt understand what partial credit means. Must show all work.

He is a terrible teacher. We constantly correct him and he is of no help when you ask questions. His quizs are easy but tests suck and he gives no review.

i could have taught the class better myself! He makes what should be so simply very hard, he confuses everyone Thank GOD i had my notes from HIGH SChool to help me understand. sad because he has good intentiots, he just can't teach!

He is not clear at all and he does not explain himself. He can't teach. If you want to take a good nap you might want to take him.

I can not believe this teacher. He has taken everything I've ever learned in math and completely screwed it up. He is totally hard to understand. If you take this class the hour will turn into nap time, or you just wont go cause it's not worth it.

I think i've learned more from my dog. I had to call up my high school math teacher so he could send me last years tests and lectures. I hope that iis teaching career is almost over because i feel sorry for anyone who recieves him as a teacher.

its math 101 people..i think he is possibly the only man to make this class near impossible. he is a DISCRASE! i got kicked out of class for literally asking my neighbor the time. i just got out of a test and knew 2 ?s. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!

Aweful teacher. He asks very vague questions and expects very precise answers, or the other way around. Even if its apparent you "understand" a problem and give the right answer, he takes half the points off for leaving minute, meaningless infor

STAY AWAY!!! This class will NOT help anyone in anyway for their future. This professor is, well, there are NO words to describe how horrible his teaching style is. Nothing is clear, the tests are hard, (even if you DO study a lot)!!!

Carter is plainly a bad teacher. He doesn't try at all and his grading system is absurd. If you can avaid having him as a teacher you would be wise, he really is awful.

This guy is the most ignorant and unreasonable teacher.

Dr Carter is SO sweet. He goes over every problem very slowly, keeps people like me (mathematically stupid) in check and really cares if you understand or not. Always helpful outside of class, and the quizzes are a breeze if you do the homework. Take him if you are just taking math for the gen ed, he's great!!

Totally awful teacher, wont let you make anything up even if you have legit excuses and is the most boring person ever. And dont attempt to get help with him in his office hours, he will just act annoyed and mad. Biggest jerk ever

He is a very bad teacher. Does not teach well, and makes things confusing. He does not get the big picture and is very narrow minded. He will take of points if it is not his way. He doesn't realize that it does not matter how you got the answer. Guy is terrible and has no reason being a professor.

Did not enjoy his class at all. Everyday seemed to be the exact same except with different material. Although he has been teaching for many years, he does not seem to have a sound understanding of what he was teaching. I would not recommend taking him.

Worst teacher I have ever had, berates the class when they don't understand, very tough grader, went on a rant about the soviets and the space race and yelled at the class for various reasons, made fun of a special ed student. Wants everything done his way, and wouldn't give back point on a test when 1 out of 75 people got it right

Professor Carter does not show interest in the class. You should go to class however, because you will get behind if you don't. The way he teaches the class makes it impossible to learn from just the book.

Not a personable teacher at all which is fine but tests ask for specific and difficult methods to answer easy problems (you don't get any credit if you don't use his method). Class avg for one test was a 53 and he didn't allow extra credit or a curve for it. I'm fairly good at math and hated this class. I would not recommend taking him

He's been teaching for 25 years at the college of Charleston... this is a problem. It is clear that he does not know how to 1) make information relatable or memorable, 2) does not care about the success of his students 3) his working knowledge of the material is actually questionable. DO NOT TAKE. DO NOT TAKE.

I would not suggest taking his class. He makes such easy concepts into something impossible to understand. His grading system is absurd, and he does not count any partial credit. He also does not care if you get the right answer if it is not done his way. He's snapped at the class multiple times, and is very unapproachable. Do not take him!

I would never in a million year takes this class again. He was the most disrespectful professor I have ever had. He doesn't care about the students and could not teach a student if his life depended on it. He grades test extremely hard and if you don't do it his way its wrong. He honestly should find another profession.

The class is very heavily notes based. He doesn't do a great job at explaining things, but if he does the explanation would be word for word from the text book. There's no graded homework so you really have to study for the tests because there's only four test grades in the class.

Please do not make the mistake I did, and take this professor. He needs to know the material effectively before he presents it to the class.

Professor Carter's lectures are boring, i almost fall asleep listening to him every MWF. He does not explain material, just does examples from the chapters and expects students to know everything. Went to him with questions and he laughed in my face. Very rude. don't take unless you want to fail.

Honestly worst teacher I have had a COFC. Not willing to work with students to help grade. Really rude over email, and doesnt allow you to make up anything without a reason he feels is right, even if you send polite email AND tell him in advance. Dont take this class unless you want to deal with a rude, inconsiderate, boring, teacher.

Such a rude, inconsiderate teacher. Doesnt care about his students and really shouldnt be a professor. I tried to work with him on a makeup quiz and his emails were rude ending in And youre welcome. Took more effort for him to be rude than it did for him to just let me make up the quiz. Dont take this class!!

He is the most disrespectful teacher I have ever had at cofc. He offers very little help to students who do not understand and puts students down with rude comments. Locked student out of the class for using the bathroom and tried to embarrass a student when he found his own way of solving a problem. Class average is a 41.

So Carter is the worst professor I've taken so far at CofC.. I do not doubt he knows the material, he just does not know how to explain it. Luckily for whoever takes him linear algebra is mad easy. He gives you the option of not grading an exam and instead replacing it with the final exam grade. Every question from the tests comes from the hw.

Professor Carter assigned homework but did not grade it. Do the homework ( I did not and I failed) go to class and pay attention to his extremely boring lectures that were confusing and hard to follow. His class made me feel very unmotivated and left me hating math even more than I did before! Good luck!

Don't take him unless you're a graduating senior who needs your math credit and he is the ONLY professor available. I'm doing well so far (B at midterms) but it's not worth the mental grief that professor Carter puts students through. I don't mean to instill fear into whoever is reading this but take him and you will regret it.

Had to withdraw from the class because I had no hope left. Ive never had a more inconsiderate professor. Doesnt accommodate students, especially during covid, and only allows in person exams. So, dont expect to be able to retake a test if you miss it, even if you have covid, family emergency etc. He has 0 empathy. Class average is probably a D-.

I have never had such an inconsiderate professor, Dr. Carter does not care at all. In the time of Covid he simply posted notes and homework online, no zoom, no feedback, just fend for yourself. Once a week short quizzes were given in person with limited time to do and no makeup quizzes allowed. Even when I had a Covid exposure.... DO NOT TAKE

Expects you to learn anything on your own. Barely talks to students other than to ask for their name, when he hands assignments back to you he doesn't explain why you got something wrong just put it as it was wrong. How am I supposed to learn from my mistakes if you aren't giving me an explanation for why I am wrong? A real teacher would help.

BEWARE. Your grade consists of 13 quizzes and 1 final. That's it. Homework is optional but you must do it to know what's going on with the quizzes. He posts all the lectures online in WRITTEN format. If you struggle with math like me, DO NOT take him. You are basically teaching yourself and if you reach out, expect to be shot down (like I was).

This class is basically watching paint dry. I just stopped showing up to class because I honestly learn more just reading the textbook. Tests every Friday which suck. Its not hard material but is over explained to the point of difficulty. I don't think he would recognize a single person in his class outside of school.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Dr. Carter is not helpful, makes you feel foolish if you ask him a question, and is overall not a good professor. If you miss more than one question on the test (which you'll have every week), then you practically fail it. He takes off for silly things and doesn't explain why. If I could rate this professor a 0, then I would.

Worst professor ever if you don't want to cry every day and then eventually drop the class because you have an 11% don't take this math class with him.

The worst teacher I've had in my life. He needs to retire he is rude to students and the majority of the class dropped by the end of the semester. Is lazy so he doesn't grade well and will not give extra credit or help you out. Will make fun of you or say "you have no common sense" if you ask a question.
