Had plenty of info on how to drop the class
No Comments
worst grade I ever got on a test was given to me by this teacher..need i say more?
Very knowledgeable about economics but cannot teach it so that you can understand. Do not take this class.
Absolutely the worst. Tests could only be viewed if you visited the department.
The WORST teacher I have ever had.
Dont waste your time studying for the tests because nothing he teaches will help! Do not take this professor!!
Don't expect any help from him. No questions answered clearly, willingly.
Has good knowledge but cannot teach, tries to go as fast as possible. gives option if you want you can drop the class. but not willing to help.
Horrible teacher
If you are expert in economics and want to challenge (test) your knowledge. Than take this teacher. If you want to learn than don't take his class. Its useless.
two words: the devil.
What a teacher, no positive ratings. As my personal experience. Looks like he has knowledge but cannot teach the class. He is the worst teacher I ever had. He is never willing to help. What ever taught in class is final. Goes fast so its hard to get.
Try not to take this professor if you want to save money. Worst record. Money crazy. Cannot teach the class. Negative part of Depaul.
I got an A in macro I am getting a C in this class. He knows the material but does not teach it in a simple manner. He does not give fair warning of what is on the tests they are impossible to study for. Unless you love enonomics do not take him!!!
Does not teach by the book, which he tells you to read and study from. Notes don't match test half the time. Tests look like new material.
Very hard teacher and unclear at teaching subject!
This guy is a ****! I complained so much I got part of my money back for this class. The first day of class he told us by the end 90% of us wouldnt be there.
He is an evil man...drop as soon as possible
The man can not teach and the test is nothing that can be passed... if you get a C consider yourself lucky

It seems that dr. ciecka has his tenor and is buddies with the department chair....so thats why whenever we called to complain that he couldnt teach and gave impossible tests we wouldn't get a response. DONT SIGN UP FOR HIM.
He is the hardest teacher ever. He uses formulas on the exam and you have to derive the formulas. Is this Calculas or Economics? The only good thing, his curves are very generous.
He is completely unapproachable. I could not understand what he was talking about and when I tried to get help, he made me feel like it is really bothersome for him to go over it again. I ended up with a "W" and no money back!!!
I got an A- which was the highest grade in the class. How could you give no A's??? I only did well because I took Econ 106 at the same time.
incredibly confusing and difficult for an easy course - i am a straight a student and got an f in this class - retook it with another prof and got an a- drop him if u have him and take it with someone else
bad teacher. uses toomany graphs that don't explain the material. not helpful. his exams suck. it's more like math than econ with all the graphs and formulas.
He is very unpersonable and his tests are difficult. He does not allow calculators for tests where you may definately need one. If you can, do not take him.
I'm a big fan of economics and I found this class nearly impossible. Tells you to read the book, but almost nothing from the book is in the exams. Lectures for the entire period and his tests are amazingly difficult. Switch to a different professor!
He's the worst teacher ever! He doesn't like to answer questions, he doesn't like people visiting his office, he tells you to e-mail him but he takes so long to answer back that it's best if you just drop or swtich. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
I definitely wouldn't recommend this professor. Doesn't like to be asked questions. And if he asks a question to the class...beware. Don't answer, he'll only prove you don't know what you're talking about. Very disappointing.
Just drop it. I wish someone told em don't take his class. Nothing is from the book but the way he teaches you'll need the book. His tests are hard he's hard and boring.
Very nice professor, but not good at teaching. Very intelligent man but not good at teaching. Most people fail this class, so don't feel bad.

His class is hard but you will end up knowing tons about econ, but if you really care about your grade, might want to take someone else. BUT his grading style is VERY generous I got C+s on the first two test and ended up with a B+ for class. Rest of the class will do bad so just get C average up to finals and the cuurve will get you at least a B.
One of the smartest teachers I've had here at DePaul so far. Learned a lot from him.
Class is tough but worth it
Very helpful if you approach him
really hard at first but once you learn his teaching style the class becomes interesting

good teacher
helpful
the class is easy if you show up and pay attention
lots of details but very helpful
not the worst, not the best
teacher is very knowledgable and helpful
takes effort but professor is detail-oriented and very into his subject matter. very interesting
Good class
Great Class.
one of the best courses i took at depaul
so smart
I Learned so much
so glad i took this class, seriously. a lot of people complained about it being hard, i just thought it was the right amount of challenging. made you think
glad i got this professor

spent a lot of time with me before the exam to help me understand. very helpful.
really good course.
worth my time!!!
What a great teacher, SMART
Compared with other instructors, he may be more DIFFICULT, but good teachers usually are
fair.
Good teacher... Liked it
This guy sucks! He hates to answer questions. None of the material from class lectures even resemble the textbook (so forget about trying to catch up if you fall behind, he is extremely boring. Hates questions and like to make a A** of you if you ask any. Try to switch ASAP. Waste of money.
Very thorough and knowledgeable professor.I took this class as a graduate student.I did well, but I studied more for this class than for any of my graduate classes.Ciecka's class prepared me extremely well for graduate level concepts. However,I found this class to be too hard and too involved for undergraduate entry level economics.
Tough Class. Nice Guy. Talks above your head. Could improve instructional skills. My experience is that he is always willing to help. Most problems with class are the course itself. Most questions on tests are straight out of notes, but stay alert in class--lose focus and your lost.
Testing is horrible!! You never know what to study for, lectures are boring, and grading sucks!
This man is horrible. Even with a HUGE curve you still fail! That just goes to show how difficult his tests are. A 55 was a C, and most people got a D. Final was 48 pages long! Doesn't give you any idea of what to FOCUS on for the tests. Just study everything is his motto, but come test time only a fraction of EVERYTHING is on the test. Stay away
Warning, waste time money and efforts if you take his class never willing to help students. seems like he has knowledge but cannot teach. more than half of the class withdraws his class getting a "W" in their grade sheets.
boring, boring, only numbers

Avoid this man like the plague. The tests do not consist of material from the class nor book. He DOESNT return homework or tests hence you never get answers. He is almost unreachable and refused contact the week prior to the final. He is truly a blight on the Depaul Grad Program.
VERy unresponsive to questions. Requested that students email him questions then would tell everyone that he didn't get their emails and that was why he hadn't responded to questions.
It is difficult to teach tough material, but Prof. Ciecka really tries. I found that his exams were directly from his class notes and homework. If you want to meet with him, you need to seek him out. You need to go the extra steps to learn the material. It is not all his fault you don’t do well. If you want a challenge take this class.
Highly intelligent, caring professor. Not an easy class but he preps you extremely well for the MBA classes you take afterward. Poor contact over email but he is frequently in his office and VERY friendly.
The book is easier to understand. He does not engage the clase and the tests dont really show how well you understand the material
Highly intelligent. Not the best people skills. I have no business/calc background and this class kicked my butt left and right. I would avoid him if possible. Good thing: I failed every test, but the take home, and received a C. Show him you're a serious student and he'll be more generous.
He is very smart but doesn't stop to realize that not everyone already knows everything he is teaching. He teaches super fast, he needs to slow down. He grades on a very generous curve which saved me. The class average for the exams were 60-70's but the take home final is a great grade booster. You can work in groups for this part of the class.
This is a hard class and a majority of the class was lost the whole quarter. The homework is tough but it helps for the take home final which saves your grade in the end. Class averages for exams were 60's without the generous curve he gives.
Ciecka moves fast, if you didn't take Stats/Calc in undergrad, this will be very difficult for you. Working in groups for the HW is key. The class avg was literally 55 on the final. HUGE curve, but so much work for the subject matter! It's hard to make calc fun. Ciecka will help you if you seek it out and go to his office.
He goes over everything in the book, but when it comes it the exams the way he words it and ask the questions is EXTREMELY confusing. Our class average is a 50% and I believe it isn't the students fault, but also the way a teacher teachs. He also wouldn't reason with us all he said was ask me questions and I'll answer them.
Ciecka really knows his stuff, but can't really teach it. If you're polite and ask for help he's more than willing to assist. The curve in the class is huge, and believe me, you'll need it.
Ciecka is a good teacher. He gets a bad rep because he moves quickly through his lectures. There's a lot of material and that needs to be taken into consideration. I'm not a fan of the class because it's so difficult but Ciecka is fair and an expert in the field. His curves really make a difference and the exams come directly from notes.
He is an excellent professor who really knows the material. If you have taken any amount of high school or college calculus or stats, the first few lectures go really slow. My classmates who weren't academically prepared seemed really challenged at the pace. Be prepared for exam questions that come out of left field. Important-Do the homework!!!
Prof. Ciecka really knows his stuff, but he spent too much time on the mathematical derivation of the formulas, which you really don't need to know. He's extremely helpful if you seek him out. A few of us worked together as a study group and he came to some of our sessions. Do the homework and be prepared for the final: it's extremely theoretical!
Not a very effective lecturer. Would be extremely helpful to get solutions to problems for homework. Uses about ten different types of notation for each problem so its difficult to figure out what hes asking. Gives a rediculous (est of 30 hours to complete) take home final plus an in class final and says "oh is 30 hours alot?" Stay Away from him
Recipe for success in this class. Do the homework, make a copy of your homework before you go to class. Hand in your homework. Then when he goes over the homework, right down the answers he gives you on your homework that you made a copy of. Never miss class. Take good notes. Can't memorize material, must understand. Grading is fair with curve.
Should have discussed homework in class. Fair grading.
Terrific guy, not a great prof. Spends lots of time explaining development of equations and not enough time explaining real world application or how to use them for hw probs. Work with a group on hw/take-home exam. Tests are not difficult if you study. Prof is VERY willing to help after class/in office. Wipes out entire forests w/all his handouts.
Smart guy. Tough tests. Make sure you come to class and do the homework. He is willing to meet after class.
Great prof, really passionate about the course. Sometimes he goes little bit out of subject into math history, but this was very interesting for me. Tests are OK, problems are very similar to ones in the homework assignments. Work in groups for take-home final, this will help a lot to get points, because in-class final was on the hard side.
Makes material more difficult than it actually is. Does not go over exams once they are graded. Test questions are either ridiculously hard or shockingly easy...no in between. Don't recommend. Only students who already know material well seem to do well. Texts will NOT backup what you can't learn form his lectures! Don't take w/another hard class!!
Very good teacher!easy to understand if u have basic calculus knowledge.(which u must since in grad school!)He always explained homeworks in class,a week before they were due.So u basically had to write down the formulas he tells you and input the numbers in.Available for consultations 90% of time and replied to e-mails within a day.Curves fairly.
Very hard class. He's too smart to teach students.
Very good professor. Knows content very well and expects you to know it also. If you read the material in-depth and study, should be easy to get a B.
Take someone else. Professor has a difficult time transferring his knowledge to students. Teaching approach is to throw the kitchen sink at students. Overwhelms amount of useless information and covers each concept once at a blazing pace, Huge test curves accurately represent poor teaching. Spend your tuition dollars wisely
Awful professor. Very intelligent, but this does not translate into being a good teaching. Poor communicator. Talks over your head. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU WANT TO LEARN!!
Agreed with other comments. Had him in the spring. Prof. Ciecka belongs in a research institution, not a professional school like KGSB. Nice man, but not good at teaching.
Professor is one of the best! He knows his stuff and can teach it to anyone with an ounce of willingness to work. Too many slackers in DePaul's KMBA program. Those folks will not be the ones to keep their current jobs (if they even have one) during/after this depression. They will be working at Denny's or Wal-Mart probably WITHOUT an MBA. Pathetic!
IDK where to start the class is a waste it only dealt with econ theories it wasnt till week 6 a kid asked how does this relate to anything and then he tried to explain..overall the class is just like an advance algebra class so if you wanna take that take him. multi choice tests..
Ciecka is a quirky guy. He's so brilliant, but at times, it is hard to understand what he wants you to learn. That, and the subject material (for me) was freakin' hard. My advice is to attend his study sessions and lean on your classmates. It's amazing what clarity you'll get it you put some grit determination into learning the stuff.
If you have an option-DON'T take this class with him. He is a nice guy, but the worst teacher ever. He is a fair grader, you'd be able to get a good grade, but you'll be doing all the studying on your own- he is no help.
Stay away unless you have extensive math and econ background.
As already stated, class is very hard for all backgrounds excluding advanced mathematics. The guy is not helpful and flies over the material. Don't get behind, study hard and work on all home-works. This guy has to be a PhD professor, not MBA's. I hated Calculus and Statistics before, I hate it even more after this class. That alone says enough.
Smart Professor. Good Quality.
He goes through material so quickly that he losses the majority of the class. Even worse, if you ask a question he makes you feel dumb while he answers it. The only thing that saved my grade was a take home final so I could work on it over 10 hours. He's hard to get in touch with and doesn't really answer your questions.
Great guy, a little bit of a hard class but he was very helpful.
Not an easy class but he is by far one of the best professors at DePaul. Exams are fair if you do your homework.
Brilliant, but cursed with a burden of not being able to teach the material to students without an extensive math background. I took Stats and Calculus in Undergrad and earned A's in each course, far from the case in this class. In order to succeed you must have a strong math background, visit his office hours frequently and take perfect notes.
Not interested in helping you learn. Moves very fast in class lectures. Needs to retire.
Test are not similar to what he gives in class. Book is useless. He teaches quant as if it was a history class.
The class is easy, yet he makes it more difficult, and he doesnt cover the important stuff like hypothesis testing etc. Instead of teaching us how to do hypothesis testing and regression, he makes you memorize stuff like newton date of birth, bernolli etc, like its really a hestory class but fails to teach proper stats. Skip him he'll confuse you.
LEARNED SOOO MUCH! I hated it at the beginning because it is a HARD class. People complain because they don't want to work. THIS IS GRAD SCHOOL. Act like it people! DOES YOUR BOSS HOLD YOUR HAND WHEN GIVING YOU A PROJECT???? Make sure to study with other students. It is always helpful to talk it out!!! Prof. Ciecka is AWESOME.
Great prof!
Stat/Math can be a hard topic if you've been out of school for awhile, however the professor makes it extremely difficult to feel like you get it. The hw and test questions were confusing. I had 3 different tutors, and they even seemed confused about what he was asking. Class avg for exams was 50% I think that says a lot about his teaching ability.
Brilliant guy but terrible teacher. He made students feel stupid when they asked questions and huge curve due to poor teaching ability. I would not recommend anyone having him as a teacher.
One of the most difficult professors I have taken in all my years of education. Course designed for a math major, required for MBAs. Must have a strong background in math before taking class. Half of the final exam was take home and honestly took 30 hours to complete. Get through it and move on in the program.
He teaches v well, and exams are directly from notes, but he moves v fast and the take home was v difficult. Work in groups and dont miss a single thing he says in class and do the hw, he doesnt care if it is right or wrong, just do it. Overall, he was nice and would answer all doubts v kindly.
Pro. Ciecka is a patient and nice instructor. Just being concentrate on listening to the lecture then you will pass the test.
This was the worst stats class I have ever taken due to the teachers poor teaching ability. Know your notes for lecture because that be the exam. The homework is useless and only graded in the sense that he checks that you did most of it. I am sad that this was part of the curriculum because I didnt learn anything as i have already taken grad stat
If you ask questions he will be there for you. Make sure to clarify each problem in the problem set. Some of them are confusing. He doesn't give feedback, just posts solutions.
Definitely one of the hardest classes I've ever taken but I don't think there is such thing as an enjoyable stats class. Best part of this course was that there were no tests, only hw assignments. Tough questions, lectures covered them but not always. Professor is always available outside class for help but I still probably wouldn't recommend.
He is very well known for his reputation of scholarship and lecture. I didn't get the grade that I worked for and that's life. Didn't like that after my homework was deleted from D2L. This class is for intermediate college-level calculus. No textbook here. Give yourself time with the absorption of your materials.
Professor is a nice guy, but does not like when you separately email him questions and would rather you post it on a forum. He also isn't that great of a grader and would much rather talk monotonously in a video format. His assistant professor does a zoom session every week that goes into MUCH better explanation of the assignments & answers.
This class is extremely math heavy. Trust me when I say the Professor's lectures are extremely confusing and the homework does not correlate at ALL with what he teaches. I bought the textbook just to learn that nothing is included in there nor does it help. The only way you can truly pass is if you attend the TA taught sessions, NOT the professors.
Please heed the warnings prevalent in this professor's reviews. Read them carefully as their tone (frustration) and observations (inadequacy) are uniform and consistent (spanning terms). This professor does not care if you survive his class, and appears to relish watching his "students" struggle.
The worst prof have ever had. He expects everyone to have taken stats before or have a math background. He does not provide any real explanation or background. Just draws on a piece of paper for 1 1/2 hr. I have no idea what's going, save for AI would unable to do hw assignments based on his "teaching" alone, there is no book either.
