I got an A,but didn't learn one thing. He kept saying, you have nothing to worry about when I tried talking to him. I am a serious student and am now at UC Berkeley. No help from him even though he gave me an A. I learned absolutely nothing. He is the biggest PHONY and B.S. artist.

clifford is the 1 of the worst teachers i've ever had. he clearly favors guys over girls just by the way he interacts w/ girls. he cuts out b4 ppl can ask questions & is rude/unhelpful when u see him in his office. i got A's/B's on all of his work yet i got a D/Incomplete & he made it sound like he was doing me favor by giving me an incomplete

very very very disorganized. his worksheets are based on his lectures, which are most of the time either INSANELY off topic or unclear. makes you wonder why you even came to class. you learn NO psychology whatsoever. none at all. don't take him.

I didn't learn anything from Clifford. There is no test, final, or mid term. Therefore, making the class even harder. Your grade earned is by doing your work sheet. If you miss one that is one grade drop. He does offer a lot of extra credit though. I am a A student but ended up with a B in this class. Highly not recommended.

This class is such a waste of time, I don't even know where to start. The class was unorganized, lectures off-topic, experiments pointless, and the final "paper" you're supposed to do is a joke. Clifford talks about how he writes proposals, but he can't even grade an essay properly. Good luck trying to get help, he is always unavailable. Stay away!

took the online class. you don't learn anything! basically you don't do anything all semester and cram the scantron questions for midterm and final. the scantron answers are your basic grade for the class.

Bad teacher! His lecture do not coincide with the chapters in the book, he talks about whatever is on his mind at the time & the only students to seem to follow his lectures are the ones who had him for psych 100, and even they aren't able to completely follow. He brags about himself. This class would've been interesting if someone else taught it!

Basicly the textbook is your teacher..His lectures have nothing to do with whats in the book,so if you have trouble reading the book your screwed. Although some of what he says is good to know, none of it has to do with the course...he just seems to want to get out of class..which is usually like 15 minutes long

Taking his Psych 100 class this Fall 2012. His classroom lectures has got NOTHING to do with the textbook whatsoever. But his classes are interesting, never a dull moment. He better give me an A man.

Don’t take this class!!!! The tests are fill in the blank worksheets. He says the answers are in his board notes but no one can find them. His extra credit is useless. If you're trying to get an A I suggest you sit in the front. His notes are messy and everywhere. He talks alot while writing so you get confused on what to actually have to pay attention to. Easy A! Just score 90's or above on the multiple choice take home tests and you'll get an A. His notes don't make any sense and the fill-in the blank worksheets that he hands out are so confusing. But as long as you do well on the take home tests, you'll pass this class.

I was surprised to see how bad the class was. His lectures are usually off topic and his notes are sloppy. nothing relates to the textbook. the worksheets are out of his head and notes. If you don't know the answers for them you can't look it up in the book or even the internet because nothing is similar. And the class is incredibly boring.

Clifford is inappropriate and very rude. He has a very short temper and doesn't encourage discussion or questions. I agree with the rest of the comments that stated his notes and in-class quizzes are off the wall. He manipulates you in to coming to class by saying "maybe there will be attendance" . He is NOT CLEAR about his point system.

It's extremely rare for a class and a teacher to be both extremely horrible, while still being the easiest A I ever got. I didn't show up half the time cause of his temper and off topic lectures, but I still got an A? what... Take my word this is one of the "easy-A-lazy-mans" class

Clifford is by far the worse professor I've had in a while. I get annoyed coming to class knowing that all he's going to talk about is "Matter, genes, and knowledge" Lectures are about the same thing . Book is a waste of $130, he doesn't use it. I cant get myself to listen to him. He goes off topic and talks about taxes, and random stuff..

I've now taken Cliffords class twice for two seperate courses. Both semesters I have failed while doing all online work, worksheets, and regularly showing up to class. His lectures have absolutely nothing beneficial to say, especially coming from a psych major. I have learned nothing while taking his classes.

Skipped more than half the time.. When I did go to class, his lectures had nothing to do with what we were learning on the online worktestsquizzes. His in-class worksheets were all over the place and nobody knew what to do with them! If you have actual interest in Psychology, don't take his class!!!

He is not interested in student participation. However, he is ONLY interested in teaching his opinion of the subject. This teacher is the worst at CSM. While doing all the homework and online quizzes with a score of 90 and above for some weird reason i got a low grade on the class. He asks for a lot of extra credit, then won't count ANY of it. He is very unclear about what he expects from the student. He is always repeating the same topics every lecture.

Lectures are long and irrelevant to anything being discussed. Everything you need to pass the class is basically online in the McGraw hill interactive book.

His lectures are basically the same all semester long, you never really learn anything newer than the information on the first day. He assigns online work, the quizzes are so hard and you won't really be able to pass them unless you teach yourself from the book lectures won't help you. The handouts are the same for all his classes payc100-201.

I took psych 100 and I really hated this class. All he did was give lectures and they were really boring and I didn't understand anything. This class was a waste of time, you do not even have to show up much. As long as you do the online homework you will pass. I learned nothing and barely showed up and got an A in his class.

Professor Clifford seems like a nice person and his class was definitely easy. That being said, I didn't learn much in this course and I didn't find his lectures engaging. If you really want to learn psychology I would not take this course, if you want an easy pass go ahead.

Ok I really dont do this type of stuff so I have to be pretty mad to needing to rate someone. James Clifford is an absolute joke. He doesnt teach you material, hell call you out for using your mobile devices ( which I need for a medical condition and told him before) also be ready to hear the same stuff non stop knoweledge matter. Prof Clifford is very smart but doesnt know how to carry that over into teaching. He discouraged me from wanting to stay in the class because everytime either I or someone asked for help he would say rude or sarcastic comments and tell you to sit down. Nothing in class relates to the online book, you operationalize terms EVERY CLASS

Very disrespectful towards the students in the class, literally would yell at students as well as make rude comments. Also does not let you use your laptop in class for those that wish to take notes he forces you to use a notebook or a tape recorder, never will take again.

Before you start registering for Psychology classes, make sure you avoid James Clifford. His lectures relate to almost nothing you do for the homework (or the class subject(s), if you will). The content that is taught in his classes are abyssal in IRL applications and will only produce more headaches and regrets of taking Psychology classes at CSM.

Homework is complicated and had no idea how prof. graded it. No Canvas works so you couldn't check your grade simply and clearly. There are MH connect assignments and quizzes to do, but it's fine. I would like to take a class with an "organized" professor, and I also want to learn more which are related to content in the textbook.

Clifford will teach you absolutely nothing. If you're confused about the polarity of his ratings, maybe this will shed some light: our take home final is SIXTY questions long, none of which make sense. My friend sent me his from a year ago and it is TEN questions. This man will be the reason I don't get a 4.0 and I am LIVID.

Clifford hands out worksheets that make no sense. They are worded so cryptically and hardly relate to the material that we have learned. He does not use canvas, and you essentially get surprised with a grade when he publishes it at the end of the semester. If you have the opportunity to take class w someone else, do it!

Dr. Clifford makes psychology really inaccessible unless you're majoring in it. He doesn't give feedback on turned in assignments, and as far as I can tell, refuses to give out 100% on any assignment that isn't multiple choice. Turned into an online class b/c of pandemic. No required meeting but there are voluntary zoom meetings to answers questions, except that he doesn't answer them. Responds to emails quick, either he doesn't answer your questions, or he ignores them completely. Final assignment was 60 questions long, none of his questions are structured to make sense

Hes awful! The worst Professor I have ever taken at CSM. None of his assignments make sense and they are all short answers questions. He emails you back very quickly but completely does not answer your questions. If you do not have to take with him, do not ever do it.

During the online learning , it has been hard to feel motivated in this class. I understand it takes a bit of getting used to but this class is super boring. Lectures are very monotoned and the format of the lectures are hard to get through because of how monotonous and repetitive they are. Does not make me feel like I want to learn in this class.

Least favorite class during distanced learning. We do not have synchronous meetings, he just posts long, boring, monotone lectures. He makes 4 chapter assignments and 4 quizzes due once a month, which makes it hard to stay motivated. He gives worksheets that go with videos that are decades old and hardly go along with lecture and grades weirdly.

Just bad. Absolutely TERRIBLE. I'm not sure how he is for in person classes, but for online... oh boy... IT WAS A NIGHTMARE. I CAN NOT even explain how tough he grades. Some worksheets were terrible (especially the final) and the recorded lectures were really hard to follow. This man singlehandedly ruined psychology for me.

He seems like a nice guy, but his online course is so boring. He has videos of him reading a microsoft document in substitution for class, very monotone and it feels like he repeats the same thing over and over again. The online textbook will be the only thing helping/teaching you. Don't take this class during Covid. It is tedious and busy work.

I hate how this professor grades our critical thinking assignments because he provides general feedbacks to all students. Not a single student got a perfect score on those assignments that are all based on his boring video lectures. He says his reason was because he wants the student to keep improving his/her writing skills. Like what??

Probably one of the worst classes I have taken so far. Basically all of his recent reviews are really accurate. This professor is one of the reasons that has caused me to switch my psychology major. It's pointless watching his lectures because they don't make any sense, so you're probably better off just googling if you need help or read the book.

He's also a stickler for grammar, but his own grammar is awful, so you can never understand his assignments. He's the only prof who teaches this course at CSM so I am so sorry to every psych major.

Had this prof for PSYC 120, too, and my review is the same. Never take his class. Lectures and assignments never make sense. He uses lots of language that is definitely used incorrectly. Also grades tough on grammar even though his grammar is awful. Also, don't try to reach out for clarification because he is not helpful and just rephrases.

Don't do it. He talks in slow motion and never finishes his sentences. He never writes in complete and coherent sentences either so his assignments make no sense. No one ever knows what is going on in class. Key for the assignments is to write in circles and over explain everything like you're trying to meet a big word count in an essay.

I recently took the online course and if you don't watch the lectures you will be lost all semester. The lectures are just him talking for an 1 or maybe longer. There probably 3 lectures or more to watch a week. Normally never straight to the point either. There were no papers but his assignments make up for it. The questions were never clear.

Assignments are not clear and always contain errors. Reuses old syllabuses and hw seems like worksheets that are cut and pasted together. The video lectures are not clear at all and are filmed in a dim garage w/ no slides. Promises all the information is on the syllabus, but when asked what classroom class will be in, he says good luck have fun

He is the worst professor I ever had! I took asynchronous class with him, one hour of class per week was like torture and it was nothing related to his assignments, they were huge and you do not learn a thing. Taking his class was as if I was burning my money. Take other teacher or go to skyline/canada, but do not take any of his classes.

Horrible professor. Took his online class, had to drop out. There were assignments that needed to be completed in order to even pass the class with the lowest grade, could not locate them on canvas due to poor organization on his part. I finally found them towards end of the semester, asked him if I could do them for half credit, he said no.

Took this for summer school all online and I've never seen someone so unorganized. On canvas's everything was a mess the home section was just a long list of random things. It is easy to get lost while navigating this class's canvas. When it came to the work it was a lot of reading and the assignments felt like time wasters and confusing.

I ignored all the bad reviews here because I'm a straight A student, I can manage, right? Big mistake. Monotonous, useless lectures. LONG assignments w/ video questions that the videos don't answer. This man is borderline illiterate. You will be constantly confused by assignments. One question on an assignment was "The placebo effect originate:" ??? If you reach out to him he won't understand your e-mail so it's a lost cause. If you have the choice, don't take a class from him.

If you major in psychology, you have to take this class. There is many "critical thinking & writing assignments" and I dreaded them each time. Luckily, me and a couple of students had an emotional support group chat. Good luck to all who take his class and I would say not to, but like I said, it is a requirement for some.

Do NOT take this class if u can avoid it. The WORST professor I have ever encountered. His syllabus, instructions, and comments are practically unintelligible. This teacher grades very heavily, and if it were not for the automatically graded quizzes, I would not have an A in the class. Do not take this class!

This class was absolutely ridiculous. I worked hard on every assignment only for him to grade it within 10 minutes and gives no one above an 80 percent?? Expectations unclear making it impossible for anyone to meet. Avoid this class if you can, I am happy that it is over now.

Clifford is smart don't get me wrong he just cannot teach. His style of teaching is so bad I understand the textbook more than his lectures. This is an intro to psych class, yet has more homework than my calc 3 class. brodie uploads like 3 lectures a week on canvas, each a half-hour to hour long. maybe listen to them if you're having trouble falling asleep at night. the assignments are so horrendously written, just use chat gpt for them.

Absolute worst prof I've had in my life. Insane amount of assignments every week, the questions made no sense AT ALL (horrible grammar, didn't understand half), it was painful trying to do them. Please STAY AWAY for your sanity. Class wasn't super hard, a lot of the work was textbook+quiz, but nonstop lectures that barely made sense. Not worth it!!

Had a very hard time both times I took his classes. Nonsensical questions on Critical Thinking assignments (they take forever to do for this reason). Feedback is very long and difficult to comprehend. I stopped watching the 3-hour lecture videos. It's easy to get a B, utilize the textbook and general knowledge and you'll be fine. Good luck

Although he knows his material, he clearly has no idea how to teach it. His in-person lectures are so monotone and repetitive, his Canvas shell is an absolute mess and difficult to navigate, and his video lectures are unclear. He grades very harshly and gives his assignments based off his unclear video lectures. I do not recommend taking his class.

The class consisted of an easy online textbook with quizzes plus an excessive number of repetitive and confusing lectures and a few papers with complex, obtuse questions. This class will make you spend hours and hours thinking in a very philosophical way. If you enjoy that, you might enjoy this class.

He is never available or accommodating for office hours, and he does not care about student effort in general. I would spend hours on his repetitive critical thinking assignments just to get a B without explanation. He is vague in his teaching, and I would not recommend him at all.

Do not take this professor. I highly recommend finding an alternative at Skyline or Canada for your required courses. Confusing instructions, so many papers requesting you to think exactly how he thinks, formatting and grammar errors everywhere, and never accommodating to student concerns or emails. Doesn't give higher than Bs on his assignments.

This professor does not give anything higher than a B on any assignment. Assignments take hours to do and questions are very confusing and sometimes not even relevant to the assignment. For these assignments he asks you to refer back to video lectures on canvas (which is very disorganized). TAKE ANY OTHER PROFESSOR.

Confused on how these lectures are supposed to help me when they don't match the document given and are filmed in most likely 2011. This is very much a "teach yourself" class and heads up if you end up taking his class his assignments are due at 12pm not 12am. He also locks the assignments because "no late work"

I took his class two yrs ago, however I can never forget how nonsensical and disorganized his class was. His documentaries (made in 500 BC probs) did not match up with his convoluted homework assignments. He will not help you if you don't understand the material, overall, terrible class and terrible teacher. How he still works there is beyond me.

Horrible, ruined my life

avoid this professor. the lectures he posts are long ash and he assigns online readings that dont connect to the lecture at all. hes messy unorganized unprofessional and doesn't grade any assignment above a B.

Super difficult professor. Grading criteria was super unclear and weekly reading assignments can take up to five hours. He's super harsh when grading the reading assignments, and always leaves an entire essay of feedback on every one. Only managed to make it through this class since I knew someone who took his class before me.

I'm writing this after doing a 12-hour homework assignment I'll get a C on anyway. His assignments are unclear, follow the directions to a T and you'll still miss something. Have fun watching 5 hours of lectures a week and then after that reading the textbook. Only redeeming quality is his lectures give off dad energy, guy seems sweet and funny.

His critical thinking assignment make zero sense, there is no clear understanding what he is lookin for and is a tough grader, not only do I feel the assignments are not helping me retain important information they take hours to complete. I think he's a very intelligent man, however his class is not what I expected as a psych major

This professor is biased. He remembered me from his past course when I retook his course online and still continued to fail me. Online is much easier since all your material can be seen and done on time and I still don't understand how anyone can get a bad grade online when I did excellent in all my other online courses. He ruined psychology for me

Don't take him. I have no idea what he said in every class. My friend and I were confused in every single class. He always talked about how psychology is the mental process of blah blah blah. it was so repetitive. I would not take him. Don't waste your time and take the class with another professor.

Based on everything in online lectures that didn't answer what was asked in the homework, Tests were hard due to most of the material not being findable through modules or even the textbook.

Professor Clifford's class is very difficult for no reason. He assigns so much work that it is actually counterproductive to the learning process. The online lectures are old and lengthy and have nothing to do with the material we are learning. This is by far the worst class I have ever taken and classmates that I spoke to agreed. Avoid this class!

He is an awful teacher. I took his online class because I don't have a choice, but if you could please take any psychology classes at CSM with another professor instead. I got myself a B+ in the class and learnt a heck lot, but it has very little to do with him.

I could not get through the lectures. They were way too long.
