I ENJOY EVERY SINGLE CLASS, PRETTY INTERESTING AND FUNNY, EASY NOTES. TWO EXAMS ONLY !!!STRAIGHT OUT TO THE POINT. REAL LIFE CASES TAKE EASY A :)
Excellent excellent professor, he's a lawyer himself.very knowledgeable and flexible, easy exams, take any class with him, you wont regret. he has a great great personality. Very inspiring
This was one of the best courses I have taken. He knows how to incorporate real life issues within his lecture. Easy class.
Very laid back, funny, and more than happy to answer questions and give legal advice haha. KNOWS HIS STUFF! 2 exams that are the easiest exams you will EVER take. Participation will make this 3 hour class go by fast. lets you out half an hour early!
AWESOME, SMART, SWEET, AND MORE. TAKE THE CLASS!!!
Very awesome professor! Funny, laid-back and interesting. He will not keep you the entire time and he is a fair grader!
He is not a great lecturer, tests are hard and his grading system is not fair. Not very helpful during office hours, will go out of his way to make things a pain in your ass. Def dont recommend this professor.
I had heard so many good things about him but what happened to them?? The worst part about his class is that itz 3 hrs long. he lets u out like 15-200 mins early but then sometimes he doesn't give any break in between. Exams are not easy. screw up on one exam are thats it your gpa is ruined. No way to even get a B. Take some other easy professor.
boring boring boring
Professor Cooney's classes are fun, interesting and easy! I had him for Employment Law and Immigration Workers in America. He doesn't expect a lot from his students and his tests are easy. More than anything else...he's a sincere and a real nice guy!
Easy as hell
those ppl whining down there obviously never took a REAL hard/boring class like bio or chem. this was the easiest class ive ever taken. i got 100 on the first test by studying 2 hours MAX from like 5 pages of notes. he doesnt even make you know hard details. just main points of article and his short, easy notes. dont be lazy. it was sooooo easy.
HE's the best... :)
THE BEST TEACHER EVER...
Great professor. Nice guy. OFten lets the class out early. Doesn't bombard students with reading. Tests are pretty simple. a must take. Can't say much more than that.
AWESOME TEACHER - He's funny and makes the topics and class very interesting. Learned a lot and didn't kill myself doing it. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Excellent professor. No textbook required but has articles on digi-class for reading assignments. Class moved quickly and I learned a lot. A must take for all Labor Study Majors. The department needs more professors like Cooney. You will learn a great deal about labor law and he makes it interesting.
Great prof! Learned a ton about labor law, yet class wasn't that hard. Really nice, laid back, humourous and unpretentious guy, and a real expert on the topic as he is a labor lawyer himself. Takes plenty of questions and welcomes opinions. Take his class!
You can't be a Labor Studies major and not take this class with him. I never read the case studies before class because he always went over them in dept in class, just take good notes. He's laid back and funny and you actually learn something. He never keeps you for 3 hours, 2 at the most! MUST TAKE CLASS!!!
Very interesting and he is an employement lawyer himself so he knows what he is talking about. Class flies by-I am learning alot and hope to get a good grade. But the important thing is that I am actually learning something!
Great professor, very laid back, and you?ll learn a lot from him. Cooney is a lawyer and expert at employment law. He makes the class interesting so that you end up participating. There are no required textbooks, all material (which are cases) are posted. A ?Must Take? class ? it?s a shame he doesn?t teach another.
There is no text book. Cases are all on Sakai. Attendance is only taken the first day. But strongly recommend going to class. He tells you what will be on the Midterm and Final. Final is not cumulative. Great Class to take. No papers, Just a Midterm and Final (both are pretty easy) MC and a few short essays.
Cooney is an excellent professor. His class is mad easy, but you will learn a lot. I highly recommend taking this class with him.
Great professor, interesting class. No textbook, lecture based with readings posted online. Covers all material clearly in class. He is really chill, his lectures can be humorous, and he lets you out early. Not a lot of effort needed to get an A.
Awesome Class! Interesting and you learn a lot He's easy-going and cares that students learn. Only two(non-cum)exams and if you pay attention in class you don't have to read the cases. Also he NEVER keeps you the entire 3hrs usually only 1 1/2hours. There's NO Text and NO Attendance. I haven't read a single case (I go to class tho) and I have an A!
Best Professor I had so far at Rutgers, Since he is a lawyer you get first hand experience and honest answers. Good class, coming to class is a must if you want a A on his exams.
Great Teacher, helpful and knowledgable!
Great teacher, very knowledgable and has a great attitude towards helping his students. You will learn a lot in his classes, but the tests are easy as long as you show up and pay attention.
You should stop reading and just sign up before someone else takes your spot. Great Professor. Mid-term and Final are based on Notes and case briefings. Take good notes and read those case studies and you will do good in this class.
favorite teacher at RU..take notes, participate AS MUCH AS YOU CAN, and you will do well on the exam..he makes the class very interesting so it's not painful to sit through the long classes. very chill professor who will always help you & cares about his students! DEF take him!
BEST PROF AT RU! Very knowledgeable on the subject and passionate about it. You have to go to class to take notes but his classes are interesting and he always lets you leave early. Take good notes and do the readings and you will get an A. He understands students and is very helpful. No textbook!
Employment Law 315- i had a great interest in this class and i was very lucky to have such a great professor. I learned a lot in this class!! his class is fun and his exams are very easy. everything comes directly from his notes and the case readings of course. I took summer class which was very nice. simple and easy and productive class.
Definitely sign up for one of his classes. Hes very knowledgeable and always lets you out early. Both exams are very straight forward as long as you attend class and read over the cases. I'm taking him again next semester!
Best professor ever! He is knowledgeable and fun, keeps class interesting and his tests are straight forward. Just take down whatever he writes on the board because that is exactly what will be on the board! I expect to get an A+ without ever reading the cases! Taking him next semester as well!
Great Professor, really like the overall structure of class. Although there are only two exams, mid term and final. These are straight forward, just take notes of all his classes and you will pass. If you want to do well you should attend class. Also his classes are extremely interesting and I appreciate that he gives his personal experiences.
EASY!! TAKE HIM!!! AMAZIN! I did not even read or do nehting for this class. All i did was attend class take really good notes and study a day before hand. his exams are relatively easy! 20m/c and 3 short answers which he only makes you do 2 out of the 3. TAKE HIM !
By far the best professor i had this semester. His class is relatively easy, just attend class and take notes. There is a midterm and a final, which requires at most 2 hours of studying. He is also pretty funny and adds entertainment to his lectures. Not boring at all! Take Him!
TAKE HIM! I took him over the winter and the class is extremely easy. He has a sign in sheet for attendance, but you should definitely go to class. All the stuff he writes on the board are whats on the exam. I didn't read any of the cases and got an A.
Don't want to buy a book or study? Take this class. But, if you don't want to study and get an A, go to his lectures and take good notes and read it over twice before the exam, and you should be fine. Lectures are very good and interesting, and you can def. apply it to your life at sometimes in the lectures.
Excellent professor! Had him for Employment Law online. Would recommend him to anyone.
GREAT Professor! He is very nice and easy to understand! Best professor at Rutgers so far!
Great teacher. He is very smart and knows the subject. He is very helpful and is open to any questions. He teaches the material clearly. I would take any class he taught.
The most helpful and considerate professor I had. Went out of his way to help me and was always welcoming. He's an accomplished professional without the ego. Easy going and makes you feel comfortable.
Awesome man. Exams come straight out of class lectures and what he writes on the board. Also learned a great deal. Absolutely no regrets for having taken it during my winter break. It was time well invested.
the best prof. at RU! so very nice and helpful, exams not tricky. very passionate. Love this class!
Got an A in this class, easiest professor ever. All you have to do is go to class and write EVERYTHING he writes on the board. His exams are based on what was written on the board, it was so easy. We even had a movie day too!
This guy is the man. He makes class engaging and interesting and clearly loves teaching. He's so nice and understanding. Also, no textbook so it saves money. Only 2 exams, and even though they're 50% each, theyre very reasonable, he doesnt try to trick you. Take this class, you wont be sorry!
Go to class, it helps boost your grade. Write what he puts on the board (I used flash cards so it made it easier). All the reading is online. SUPER helpful. Makes course work fun. Who would have thought.
He is seriously the best professor I've had yet at Rutgers. He knows what he's talking about and loves what he does. He is very clear, his exams are very straightforward, he never tries to trick you. You just have to go to class and write down everything he writes on the board. Loved this class and am taking him again next semester. GOT AN A.
I love my teacher J. Cooney at Rutgers, He is the most amazing and understanding teacher ever and not to mention his subject rocks and you will wanna go to class. but if you cant make it, he understands.i recommend him 100% , he is actually grateful and happy that students chose to take his class. amazing.
Great Professor, TAKE HIM, really laid back, and great lecturer, just pay attention to what he writes on the board, exams are easy M/C and short answer. Wish I had to take him again.
Best professor ever!! His exams come straight from his lectures, just pay attention & take great notes. If you have any questions, he's always there to help. I'm taking my third class with him - he's absolutely great!
Best professor I have had in my entire life. He is a gift from God, a teacher that actually cares about his students. This class was life-changing. A great resource for prospective law students. Participate in his class, and show you care, and he will love you. He is, hands down, an amazing professor, and human being. P.s. no textbook
a great teacher. explained the information well. what he writes on the board is on your tests. kept the class interesting & fun. very nice man and lawyer. i would take another class with him.
Extremely nice professor. Easily approachable and he makes everything enjoyable. A lot of the material is dry, but he presents it in a way in which the student fully understands it. He never overloads your mind with information. The exams are scored in a way in which its basically impossible to fail, but relatively hard to get an A. Take him!
I absolutely love Professor Cooney. I took him for Employment law and Employment Discrimination law. He is a wonderful Professor, clear and to the point, very knowledgeable and he is helpful at all times. Exams are exactly what you went over in class. non-cumulative. Take him if you get the chance because there are not many Professors like him.
Only gave a midterm and final, and the review pretty much told you what was on the test. Curved both as well. Easy grader on final paper as well.
Professor Cooney is honestly one of the BEST, ENCOURAGING, and UNDERSTANDING professors I have EVER had. These words are emphasized because it is an understatement of how amazing he is. Seriously, TAKE HIM!!!!
really great professor. only a midterm and final and 1-2 extra credit opportunities. makes material very interesting and memorable. exams straight from notes on the board. no notes online. there is an attendance sheet but it doesn't count for anything. if you want to do well, go to class. he makes it enjoyable.
what an amazing professor, thakn you you really do care for students, you were like the best professor ever. you make material easier to understand. It is tough class but you guide us well.
I am lucky to say that I am taking professor Cooney's class now and by far my favorite class at Rutgers. He is willing to help and is extremely approachable. This is my first LR class I have taken and because of him, I am really considering switching to a LR Major! Please do yourself a favor and take his class! P.s He has really funny jokes..
He honestly is the best professor. Very funny and helpful. The class is super interesting as well and he makes the material really easy to understand. Just make sure to pay attention cus he doesn't post notes online!!
Amazing professor, his lectures are straight forward and easy to follow. All you have to do is show up for class and take notes. The midterm and final are right from the notes. He cares about everyone getting a good grade. 100% take if you need too
Professor Cooney knows his stuff and really relates to the students well. He always tells a good story in class to get every ones attention. I appreciated this teacher so much that I took another class that he was teaching the semester after I took this class. You'll learn a lot because he really respects you and is a very personable teacher.
Very sweet guy who genuinely cares about his students. I've taken all of his classes and learned a lot from him. Very smart man.
Unexpectedly became one of my favorite classes at Rutgers. Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but he was able to hold my attention throughout the entire course with interesting court cases. Exams are simple and based off notes in class. Funny too!
Professor Cooney is by far the best professor I have had at Rutgers.... He knows his stuff and he is AMAZING!
Best professor! Follows the syllabus to a tee. Only 2 exams; midterm and final (final is not cumulative) and are straight from notes/lectures. Makes material interesting and easy to understand. Cares very much about his students and is willing to help them. Quick with answering emails. Well respected and very personable! Have taken all his classes!
I have to say that Cooney is the man. He respects your opinion and treats you like an old friend. More importantly, he devotes himself to this course and helps students to study. If you wanna learn anything about Employment Law, please take this class with him. Sweet Guy!!!
Everything you need to pass, he puts on the board. sometimes even gives you the open questions on the exam before the exam. 3 hour lectures have not gone full 3 hours at all. he is funny, caring and chill. no textbook, only midterm and final. gives long breaks and loves helping/speaking to students. I wish every professor taught like him!
Easy A!! Had him for Employment Law. Write down the notes he puts on the board. The notes are on the exams. If you study the notes you should do well on exam which are easy if you study. I got an A in the class. Great Professor and very funny
Super engaging! His case briefings are so usefully since he picks great case law examples to illustrate employment law in action as there are so many which could get muddled together. Highly recommend staying back for the mini exam reviews as he repeats the case law imperative for the midterm and final exams in addition to participating.
Skip class? You won't pass simple means that his notes are really straight from the board. I've learned to hear what he says as sometimes he clearly hints what will be on the exam. He has a very simple and helpful method of teaching as he writes down just the necessary things and explains thoroughly for if you are confused. Great professor overall!
taken almost every class he taught, he basically does the same teachings but different readings. Really easy going guy, tries to make jokes with us to lighten the mood, and he pushes extra credit on us by attending events and other stuff. I say his class is really easy you just have to skim the readings and/or write down what he has on the board.
He is truly amazing, I thought law courses may be difficult but his 3 hr class is easily managed and interesting. YOU HAVE TO attend all classes and take good notes! that is the key to A. class is graded by only 2 exams. Not hard at all if you take detailed notes and attend every class!
This professor was so kind and you could tell he was smart and experienced in law! Study for the tests and go to class and an A is very possible
Great lecturer and great guy. Only two exams, midterm and final, 50% each. Not difficult if you take good, detailed notes from what he writes on the board and study thoroughly. Probably one of the most interesting and useful classes I've taken at Rutgers.
Cooney is the best!!! I was going through a lot while I took his class and he was always so helpful and supportive. I've taken 3 of his classes and when I did an employee relations internship my boss was really impressed with how much I knew because of him.
What a fantastic class! He's a lawyer by profession and the lectures are a variety of court cases. 2 exams (mid-term & final) and 4 papers. You have to pay attention to class, take very good notes, required reading court cases, and handout materials. That's your preparation for exams and papers. Very understanding prof, will take his class again :)
Prof. Cooney is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. Respected for his credentials. You need to take good notes and attend all classes. He will give hints/tips on what will be on the two exams during class - miss them and you'll be at a distinct disadvantage. Multiple choice portion of the exam is tricky - take your time on each.
Your entire grade is two exams - midterm and final. However, his lectures are so engaging that it's hard to miss content that will appear on the exams. Definitely need to attend all classes, take notes on everything he says/writes on the board, and study. I learned a lot and it's pretty clear he cares about his students learning. 100% recommend!
Really nice guy, very caring, funny, and the class was very enjoyable. Took him for credit and learned a lot 50%midterm,50% final. Test is composed of multiple choice and essay questions. If you do the assigned readings and takes his notes in class you'll get an A
Professor Cooney is a fantastic professor. He respects all of his students, even if they disagree with his point of view. He'll make it clear what he expects from his students and his lectures are easy to digest and understand. Easily one of my top 3 professors.
All positive reviews are accurate. Funny guy who knows what he is talking about. Class is cut and dry basically no homework and just tests.
I loved this class more than I anticipated. Pay attention in class and take notes. You'll learn a lot and it'll be worth it. Seriously, if you need to take employment law. Now is the time.
He is the nicest guy ever! I learned a great deal from him in Employment Law! There are reading materials you must read, but no textbook is required. Attendance is required. He goes over the readings in class and will give you notes. He answers emails fast! The essays and exams are easy if you read the material. He is a lawyer and well versed.
This class was the only class I really liked this past semester. Professor Cooney's not only a great guy, but he's passionate about his field. Definitely learned a lot, and this class definitely made me consider wanting to study HR / law.
Took him during the winter in the midst of the pandemic and wow, he was a great professor. I genuinely enjoyed his lectures and really wish they had been in person. Professor Cooney is very passionate about the material, making it much more interesting and engaging. I hope to take another class of his in the future when we get back to campus.
What a great man. Professor Cooney made me discover my passion for law, I will definitely be taking another course with him. He is the sweetest person ever, and his exams are straight to the point. In my opinion, everyone should take at least one course with prof Cooney
This was such an interesting class to take. The material is easy to learn when you study. His exams were also very manageable. The professor himself is also very helpful and understanding.
one of my favorite professors at Rutgers. His class is so interesting and actually keeps the class engaged. There is only a midterm and a final, which I preferred because as long as you show up, take notes, and study you will be fine. He even gives out an outline of the lecture so its easy to follow along. he also ends class an 1 1/2 hour early
All I have to say is, what a man. Love him! He sets an example of what a prof should be. Grade is based on two exams that are more than fair and he gives you all the notes you would need to get As from his lectures. If I could have him for other classes in the HR department, I would take in 2.5 seconds.
Great professor, easy A
Great Professor, 3 hour class but he always ended after like an hour and a half. The course is pretty easy as long as you attend class and take notes.
Gives great lectures about the topic and supplemental notes so even if you miss class you will not be lost. If you test well and can memorize material orally then you will do well in this class. You are only graded on 2 exams and minimally by attendance. Drop everything to study for these tests cause one mark and you tanked your grade. Awesome prof
Amazing! Great zoom class, interesting & informative. Homework is reading 2 cases a week, he reviews the cases & gives notes. Grade is mid term, final & participation. Should read cases, they are not long. Gives review before the mid term & final. Will definitely take him again! Responds to emails quickly & available for questions. Great professor!
loved this class! you're graded pretty much just based on your midterm and final, but the prof does a great job explaining the material. it's around two cases per week that you should read, and he gives notes in class and explains each of the cases and surrounding material thoroughly. would definitely recommend taking it with this prof!
Simply the best. Prof Cooney is so clear with his lectures and makes exams very doable. Do not take him for granted. This is the second class I've had with him and would take another. He makes law enjoyable and is definitely here for the students. Love him. Good man!!
Informational Class. Cooney will provide you with a sound basis for the amount of knowledge you need to launch into a labor law setting. He has a good sense of humor and a kind demeanor. Easily accessible and highly recommend. Encourages participation and facilitates conversation well.
I love professor Cooney. I learned so much in his classes, I took both employment discrimination and employment law. We were graded on only exams, and all his lectures were on there and there was no surprises. He gives you the tools you need to succeed and I would recommend him to everyone.
I wish all my classes were taught by Cooney. Simple class structure. 2 exams determine ur grade. he is so fair and so kind. gives you everything you need in his notes to do well. super caring and has your best interest at heart. i might just take another class with him just bc
Professor Cooney is awesome! Employment Law consists of lectures and two exams that each count for 50% of the grade. Each exam is split into multiple choice questions and a few short essay questions for which there is no limit on how much you write, so long as the question is answered effectively. Interesting & informative class nonetheless.
Professor Cooney is awesome! He was so encouraging and really liked when we participated and asked questions about the material. This was my last semester at Rutgers but I would take him again if I could. Your grade is based off of two exams but his lecture notes are great and he often tells you what you need to remember and what you don't.
Easy class. I would 100% recommend this class to anyone. Professor Cooney is a very nice guy who is understanding and caring. The course material is easy to understand and very interesting. Not much homework—a few quizzes and discussion posts.
He is the best for Emp law. and as long as you read the cases the exams were so easy.
Professor Cooney's EMLAW315 class is a great choice. The lectures are engaging and informative, and he provides helpful notes. Attendance is mandatory, but exams are fair. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for study prep.
I took both online and in-person with him, took him online Saturdays via zoom (Employment Law) he was so great I took him in-person the next semester for Topics in Labor Studies. Cooney is really easy going, super great grader, no homework, no textbook, just a mid-term, and final and expects you to come to class. He is really amazing, 10/10.
This class was graded by two exams. One of which was open book and online. While the class was easy you will still learn a lot if you pay attention. Professor Cooney is very personable and understanding, if you're interested in law you should check him out!
I love this professor! He is funny, understanding, pretty much sets you up for success!! Beware, do not use CHATGPT! He cares more about what you learn and he will catch it! Plus there is no need for it! I can't say he was easy or hard because it depends how you learn, some topics may be difficult, but overall he explains them very well!
The class is incredibly fun, and even students not majoring in this field can enjoy it. The exams are quite easy.
very good professor
If I could give a 0 for difficulty I would, fs the easiest class I had this sem. This was a 3hr class but he never kept us there more than 80 minutes. Prof. Cooney ran through the material in a very straightforward & laid back manner. The exams are extremely easy, 20 basic MCQ and 2 opinion based open ended. Gives significant # of EC opportunities
Professor Cooney is a great guy and great professor! Lectures could get a little boring but what you learn is interesting and relevant to multiple careers. Lectures would also would most of the time be cut short, only 2 exams: midterm and final, midterm was online take home open-book and final was closed book in-person. Overall, really good class.
