Professor Curley was incredible. He was extremely patient and great at explaining how to solve problems. For the last two exams, he gave practice exams that were extremely similar to the test. The first exam was just definitions. 4 exams, final is an optional exam. You have to go to lab, though. Once a week. Lab isnt bad.
Professor Curley genuinely cares about his students performing well in his class. He was very helpful in giving in class examples that were very similar to exam material. He also gave practice exams that were very similar to the exams. Lab is required with an individual project presentation. I would take this class again.
Professor Curley is one of my favorite professors I have ever had. He truly cares about how well his students do and is willing to help no matter what. He is very accessible and is willing to work things through one on one. He is by far the best teacher for this class, so take him if you can.
Curley is my favorite professor so far! He is so funny and grades super easy. There is a lab and the attendance is mandatory but the lecture is optional.
Defiantly one of my favorite professors so far at UT, super caring and understanding. If you show you understand the content, he gives lots of slack on the tests. Highly recommend!!
One of my favorite professors, made me actually like statistics. He has a lovely British accent and explains the material clearly and thoroughly. Go to his office hours, he's super caring and will help you understand the material. Would definitely take another class with him!!
He might be great in person, but his class is fully online now. Last week I had 3.7 hours of videos where he drones on and on about things that are not on the weekly quizzes. The quizzes also have questions where you can select as many or none of the answer choices, making it super difficult to get questions right. Make sure to read online reviews.
He was super caring and wonderful. It was very easy to get in touch with him through email or office hours. He was very caring and understanding about grades and quizzes often giving back points if he made a mistake or if the distribution of grades for a particular quiz didnt match up to past quizzes. I would love to take him again if possible.
Professor Curley is a super nice professor! Each week you have videos to watch and then a 15 question quiz. He will answer whatever questions you have about the quizzes during office hours, so definitely go to them! He also adjusts the quiz grades if people didn't do well and he adds surveys for extra credit. It's a challenging class but worth it!
One of the best professors I have ever had. Make sure to pay attention to lectures and then scan over the readings to get 15/15 on all your weekly (open-note) quizzes. Gives extra credit!! The lectures are very helpful and he answers questions super quick via Piazza/Office Hours/Email. He cares about you. Cannot recommend enough.
So kind and caring, he really wants his students to succeed. Quizzes every Sunday that are easy if you watch the lectures and reference the free textbook. If you have trouble on a question, join office hours he is VERY helpful. Also answers super fast and detailed in Piazza. Such a great prof, I'd take another course of his in a heartbeat.
I appreciated his grading criteria of only weekly quizzes during this uncertain time. I did not feel the need to worry about this class since his lectures were straightforward and the workload was easily manageable. He gave multiple opportunities to help your grade with dropping the two lowest grades and having optional quizzes.
Great professor! He's very considerate of student's needs, helpful, and great at teaching. I've never done coding or stats, but he made it very manageable and easier to learn. Highly recommend taking his class (and he has a british accent)! The material was difficult for me, but you won't have any trouble if you practice a lot & go to office hours
You're only graded on quizzes but they aren't that hard and they're open note, as long as you learn the lesson you should be good. If you don't understand something the TA's and Prof Curley are soooo helpful.
Professor Curley is absolutely amazing. You will not regret taking him. He is incredibly accessible throughout the week, and his recorded lectures are clear and easy to follow. I'm no math whiz, so I really appreciated that Prof Curley never assumed you obtained prior topics to the t; he always reiterates past points. Cheers!
Prof Curley is the best intro to stats teacher you can get. Weekly quizzes are easy if you watch the lectures. Super accessible outside of class. Curley wrote his own guidebook to R that you use for free in class. Would take again!
Professor Curley is incredibly sweet and genuinely a nice person. It is clear that he wants everyone to succeed. He is patient and clear with his feedback I wish the best for Professor Curley because this felt like the only bearable class during covid and isolation. The course was asynchronous and well formatted but grades are directly from quizzes
Best professor Ive had so far. Hes so nice and understanding. He also gives good feedback in piazza and provides a lot of extra help. I definitely recommend taking him
Okay, so I am non-math major that took this class for a QR flag, & man was it difficult for me. I took this class during the summer, so it was condensed, but PLEASE be warned that you have to take amazing/thorough notes to get an A, and you'll be spending hours on this class a day. Prof Curley is SO NICE, but the material is super hard in general.
Prof. Curley is the BEST! Would 100% recommend taking his intro stats for psychology course. Grade only made up of 15 weekly quizzes and gives plenty of extra credit opportunities. Really cares about students and his class. Gives a free (optional use) online textbook that he published w/ a grad student (that's super rare - appreciate him for it!).
I took the course asynchronously, and though there were a lot of videos to watch, Dr. Curley makes it easy to get a good grade in this course. He drops your two lowest grades and lets you replace two other grades with a redo quiz, and there are no cumulative tests. He's a sweet professor and there's plenty of office hours from him & the TA's.
Professor Curley has been my absolute favorite this semester. The class consists of 15 module quizzes (open note), and he provides many extra credit opportunities. Office hours are extremely helpful, since you are allowed to ask questions about the quizzes. I couldnt recommend this course enough, Prof. Curley genuinely cares about his students.
Professor Curley's absolutely amazing/caring ! There are 15 quizzes overall, all due Fridays at 5 pm with unlimited time in between the start and due date (one attempt). ATTEND OFFICE HOURS. He helps so much and clarifies any questions there! He helps with quizzes too and gives AMAZING LECTURES. Also gives EC for doing surveys+going to office hours
Professor Curley is by far the kindest and most respectful person Ive ever met. His class is made up of 15 modules(quizzes) and theyre very easy if you watch his lecture videos and read the textbook(which he provides). GO TO OFFICE HOURS!! TAs are amazing and are there to help. He offers extra credit and only wants the best for his students!
Prof Curley definitely cares about his students! Before taking this class, I had no idea how to code or anything about the program R, but this class really takes everything step by step. Your grade is made up entirely of weekly quizzes, which are open-note and not timed; if you watch the weekly lecture videos you will be totally fine!
Professor Curley is an amazing stats professor! He understands when life becomes overwhelming and always does his best to help his students when needed. In addition to this, he is a great lecturer and makes learning coding nearly a breeze. The actual content can be a little difficult at times, but if you watch the lectures you'll be fine!
didnt ever watch the lecture videos and still did fine-- v clear and fair grading criteria. also, going to office hours is v helpful
Grade based on weekly module quizzes- can sometimes be frustrating but overall not too bad- can have textbook, lectures, and powerpoint slides open so just look through material during instead of before to save time. 2 "redo quizzes" for extra credit. Prof and TA's answer questions quickly on Chatter and are very helpful during office hours.
There are weekly quizzes with lectures to watch but by using the online textbook and office hours it is easy to get an A. He also gives out surveys for extra points, 2 redo quizzes, and the chance to drop the two lowest. He is also so very understanding I once got an extension on a quiz for mental health reasons. An amazing and knowledgeable person
Professor Curley really cares about his students and wants you to succeed in his class. There are weekly quizzes which are open note, and you can ask questions about the quizzes in office hours (definitely recommend going to office hours!). An A is very achievable in this class if you do the work. Extra credit surveys can really help your grade!
Professor Curley is a very nice professor and he wants his students to succeed. There are weekly quizzes, but you can go to office hours and get help or you can submit the questions anonymously and the TA's or professor Curley himself will comment to help you answer it. There are also 2 makeup quizzes to improve your grade.
Since it is a prereq to 420M, it does have a lot of content to work with and takes a bit of time. Quiz once a week with 15 questions that go with the lectures. Very lenient on assignments and such a nice guy! He's amazing and is so helpful if you go to his office hours. His lectures are very insightful but you can choose to read his digital textbk
This was an easy and simple class. He assigns between 4-7 videos a week to watch that are not more than 25 minutes, and your only grade is quizzes, but he gives you the whole week to do it, and it is open everything.
There is only one quiz every week, no other assignments. He is accessible via email and very nice and overall the class was pretty easy
Dr. Curley is an amazing professor. So caring and the lectures can be long, but they are helpful for R studio and sometimes funny. The TA's are very helpful and he has a lot of office hours. It's just one quiz a week and no final. He is very generous and even offers two quiz retakes. Fun fact: he does international scrabble and loves lego birds.
Weekly modules, some are more difficult but pretty easy in difficulty for the most part, google and the textbook with be useful for quizzes
Professor Curley is great! This class was very informative and good for learning the basics of R. It's pretty easy if you already know intro stats concepts, but even if you don't it wouldn't be bad. Textbooks are free online and would be really useful if you don't have previous stats knowledge.
Professor Curley's class was pretty good, as someone who isn't very good at any kind of math he made the material easy to understand with both lecture videos and a textbook. I would strongly recommend.
Great professor! Listen to lectures for statistics concepts and consult textbook for any Rstudio related questions on quizzes and you should have an easy A!
Professor Curley is very engaging and entertaining in his lectures, and pretty clear about the content considering its complexity. The class definitely takes time and attention, but Professor Curley does offer practice quizzes and makeup quizzes.
Curleys class is strictly an online course but he and his TAs are always willing to answer a question or help during their office hours or on Chatter. The weekly videos he posts can sometimes get a bit lengthy but it's important to watch them to prepare for your quiz. The module quiz every week is the only thing your grade is based upon.
Somewhat of an easy class. Grade based on quizzes that are not timed and are open-note. However, it is still math and coding so it is still hard if you can't find a good example of the problem you're working on. Watch the lectures and read the textbook and you'll be good. TAs and Dr. Curley are very accessible and there's a lot of extra credit.
Prof. Curley is great! The class is asynchronous, so you can watch lectures at your pace. It's fairly easy to understand, and the textbook is a very helpful reference. Prof. Curley was great in office hours and answered questions in a timely manner on Chatter. The quizzes weren't difficult for the most part, and there was plenty of extra credit.
modules with videos and quiz every week. the module quizzes determine your whole grade, but are untimed and u can go back to the videos if needed. if ur stuck, theres plenty office hours where u can ask for help. i usually did each weekly module in one day, and didn't find myself struggling. decently easy class. ec also given thru class surveys
Dr. Curley's class was one of the easiest ever. It is graded solely on weekly quizzes; however, there are multiple TA sessions where TAs will basically "check" your quizzes for you. Additionally, there are many extra credit opportunities. As long as you utilize the TA office hours and do the extra credit, you are guaranteed an A.
Such an easy class, would definitely take again! The course is solely quizzes, but they are extremely easy if you watch his lectures and look through his textbook (which he wrote!). He is extremely helpful to those who ask questions on chatter. His TA's are also really cool and will provide you with any help you need! An A is extremely achievable.
Prof Curley's a lovely guy. He outlines everything in the syllabus, and his TAs are super helpful. Your grade is determined by a weekly quiz, the answers being found in the textbook or vids provided. if u start on time and utilize the resources available, and A is super achievable.
Great professor, but a slightly difficult course if taken online and you struggle with math.
I took this course entirely online, so I have nothing to say about the professor. However, his class structure is fantastic. You are given one open note quiz every single week. He drops your lowest grade and offers two replacement grades for your quizzes. Follow along with the textbook and ask questions on chatter if needed and you will succeed.
Prof. Curley is an AMAZING professor and makes the content very engaging. he is a very interactive professor despite the class being online. His TAs are very good and they provide great feedback as to how you can approach problems or if you need help with anything. Great class.
This is a completely online course. No tests, no papers, just quizzes. If you watch all the videos and read the assigned chapters for the week, you can pass. The videos are old but it's all the same.
The course is not stressful but will become stressful if you do not keep up with the weekly videos and quizzes. He is direct when teaching and is always helping students with questions and any problems they may face. If you struggle, reach out to the TAs who are always available on Zoom and make friends in this course to help you out.
Professor Curley was a great professor-this class is entirely online-content can be a bit hard to grasp from lectures (just abstract concepts, not because of his lack of any explanation) but it is overall very doable if you put dedicated time into to watching lecutres; TAs are helpful and will guide you on how to complete the quizzes
Super nice prof!! class is also a breeze if you just keep up with the lectures and the modules!
The best stats class I could've taken. Very clear explanations in the videos, goes through example problems that are very similar to the quizzes, just a really nice guy. Always accessible on chatter and answers questions very quickly. The class is only based on a quiz every week. NO EXAMS :D I was actually able to learn without stressing.
Professor Curley is so funny and amazing. Him and the TAs are always so helpful. Honestly, if you put in the work to watch the lectures you will do just fine. Sometimes, quizzes can be a little tough but again, Chatter is utilized to receive help. No exams so that was amazing too.
I had background stats knowledge so the coursework wasn't that hard, but for any occasional issue or confusion, Professor Curley was incredible. Most of the TAs are kinda clueless, but if you email him with a question, he'll always get back to you, and there have been multiple times when he gave me back points for things I didn't even ask for.
Prof. Curley is very knowledgable about what he teaches but the concepts can be very confusing if you do not pay attention 100% of the time or have some sort of preexisting knowledge in stats. Grades are weekly quizzes over the lectures and can take a lot of time to complete. Lecture modules are also very long
I'm NOT a stats person, so this wasn't the most fun class for me, but Dr Curley was amazing. Very caring and went above and beyond when I had a personal emergency in the middle of term. TAs are kind of useless, but Curley is great at responding to questions. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Provides the online textbook for free!
This man does not like his job. He gives very minimal help during his office hours. The class overall is difficult but you can get a good grade if you go to TA hours for help. This class is the most stressful psychology weed out class ever and will make you so stressed out your neck will be strained.
Outstanding professor who excels in both teaching and empathy. Challenges students with thought-provoking questions and supports them with humor and understanding. Highly competitive during office hours, but you have to GO. Creates an engaging learning climate. Highly knowledgeable; with that said, R is not always easy and does require patience.
Professor Curley is such a sweet guy, he cares about you, and even though this class is a bit hard and a lot of work per week he has so many resources to help you succeed! He also gives out a ton of extra credit that makes an A attainable even if you didn't do amazing on the quizzes :)
Dr. Curley is an amazing professor who cares about his students and is always accessible. The class consists of weekly quizzes which are slightly on the harder side, but you can go to the TAs office hours anytime during the week to ask for help. Definitely take this class if you can!
Prof. Curley was so so so helpful with all of the questions I had over the material. He clearly wants his students to succeed and works very hard to make sure that everyone is able to understand the material.
Curley is a good professor, but his lectures can be unreasonably long as they are all pre-recorded and can span upwards of 25-30 minutes per module with around 4-7 videos a week. He simplifies statistical concepts really well, but does so in ways I think are sometimes redundant. Overall, definitely an easy A if you apply yourself.
I found Curley to be very sweet and accommodating. His lectures do run quite long, and I personally found his oversimplification of concepts to be redundant, but he explains things extremely well and makes it easy to understand. Quizzes are difficult, but the class an easy A. If I would've attended office hours I would've gotten a better grade.
His resources are plentiful, but his recorded lectures are so boring and outdated. Speeding up the videos doesn't even help either. Was a light class, just was very hard to get through the lectures.
Lots of extra credit provided. Quizzes sometimes had errors and needed to be edited throughout the week. Lectures were boring and dragged. Tons of opportunities to go to office hours and professor always made sure to respond to emails/chatter when he could. Very caring professor.
Dr. Curley is a very friendly professor that offers SO MANY extra credit opportunities that it would be difficult to get a bad grade in his class. I enjoyed learning from him because he's very clear in his lectures and has many office hours opened to students in need of help. His lectures can be tiring to listen to but he was very enjoyable.
I dislike coding, so I naturally found the class boring and taking the quizzes were kinda hard. He is a forgiving grader in the way that we get two drops and extra credit opportunities. The quizzes are also open note. If I payed more attention to the recorded lectures, I think it would have been much easier.
Great professor! He has a lot of TAs and office hours. As long as you watch all the lectures and keep up you will do fine.
The goat if I'm being honest. Quizzes are open note and don't have a time limit. If you're stuck on a question just go to office hours and ask a TA. Pretty hard to get a bad grade with the amount of extra credit surveys/quiz redoes he gives you.
He was honestly a great teacher! If you pay attention to the lectures or follow along, then you will understand what is going on. The quizzes are open note and have no time limit. Even though coding can be grueling, I followed along the videos and learned so much! He was also lowkey funny because he is British so he uses British slang.
This prof is amazing. Gives you points back if you go to office hours and have already submitted the quiz (there's only one per week, no tests, no homework, and it's all open note and not timed). If you go to office hours before submitting, he'll also help you thru it. Online lecture heavy, so start early. Make sure to ask questions when confused
AP Stats in high school set me up really well. Regardless, he gives you all the information you need to succeed and offers so many chances to bring your grade up. One 15-question quiz every week paired with lecture videos (that I did not ever watch--I preferred textbook). Super manageable class even though content can be a bit overwhelming.
This class was set up to have one quiz a week over the lecture videos Curley uploaded every week. It was a fairly simple class. As long as you actually try to learn the concepts, you'll do fine. The textbook was free and online. The only difficulty was learning how R studio worked, but the textbook shows step by step how to do it.
Professor Curley explains the topics in the weekly videos very thoroughly and makes them easy to understand. The weekly quizzes can take a long time to complete and are a bit tedious, but they are open book without a time limit. The professor and TAs are super active and helpful on chatter and offer lots of EC. I highly recommend this class.
This course is incredibly difficult. It is very lecture heavy and incredibly time-consuming. It also takes some time to fully understand the material, and you will have to take time to practice before you attempt the weekly quizzes. Professor Curley himself is a great guy and very caring. If you are struggling go to office hours!
definitely not a blow-off class but as long as you put in the work to watch the video lectures and read the textbook (its free), you'll get an A. and go to in person office hours! the TAs will help you so much with the weekly quizzes. Never actually met Dr.Curley but his recorded lectures are pretty easy to understand. Lots of easy extra credit too
He is so sweet but lectures are long and can drag. Go to office hours, TAs are so helpful! If you put in the work, an A is extremely achievable.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! This class is extremely hard and me personally, I'm not the best at math and this class did not go easy on me. There were several concepts you had to learn in a week and there was a quiz every Friday which is just evil! This class was too fast paced and a hard class shouldn't be, therefore I do not recommend this class.
Although I don't have a background in stats, I really appreciated Dr. Curley and his class. He was very kind, friendly, and understanding. Weekly modules with a quiz (lectures can be a bit long, just speed them up or read the textbook) and 2 redos and multiple extra credit surveys. Lots of office hours, very possible to get an A in this class!
Dr. Curley had many time consuming lectures that ultimately wouldn't help much when it came down to it. The practice quizzes were often contrary to the actual quiz in difficulty. Even someone who was aptly familiar with stats (me), found the course to be taught in a way that overcomplicated it. Sweet guy, but I ended up in office hrs each week.
Although the lectures cumulatively are quite long and drag at times, he thoroughly explains each concept to ensure comprehension. Ive never had such a thorough professor tbh. I had no background in stats/coding, yet I didn't find the material too difficult due to the profundity with which he explained it. He's also super likable, imo.
open note/book quizzes each week. lectures are kinda long, but his accent made up for it. never met him, but he seems like a nice guy! he offers 3? redo quizzes and lots of extra credit. the tas and dr. curley himself have a lot of office hours, and offer help on chatter.
Dr. Curley's videos are easy to follow, just don't put them off until the last minute. Use office hours and talk to the TAs to do well in this class. Learning R was harder than I thought, but with all the resources they provide, it's completely doable.
this class will take up about one full day of your week for lecture content and test. only one test a week typically 15-20 questions open notes. Curley is definitely a s sweet guy and would recommend. he went out of his way to make sure we were set up for the class extra credit was also given throughout the semester.
Each week you have multiple videos to help you with an open book untimed quiz to do. This class will only take up 1 day in your week. He gives out tons of extra credit for small things. I thought learning statistics would be hard, but this class made is so manageable. Great class, very organized, and great professor and lecture videos.
The one downside of this class is that it is too easy. No midterm or final, everything is online and open book. Probably won't prepare you for Psych 420M unless you have great personal discipline.
Such an easy, fun class. Prof Curley is such a sweet and helpful person and the content is well taught. Easy to get an A and a good introduction to R Studio.
Not bad. He was very active and available during office hours. He also has cool birds behind his desk and is pretty funny.
grade is entirely based on weekly quizzes that are open-book open-internet, just use the search function in the textbook or google lol. I did watch the vids to get a better understanding but they drag at times so just skim if you got it. if you don't office hours were frequent or you can ask on chatter. I ran into prof Curley once, he's chill lol
This class started off pretty hard, but if you stay consistent with the work (since it is asynchronous), you will do fine. I honestly didn't think I'd end with an A since I had a B all semester long up until the end. USE YOUR RESOURCES, the TAs are SO helpful!!!!!!!!!!!
This class is asynchronous so I didn't get to meet the professor, but he seems pretty kind from his online lectures. The course is solely based on weekly quizzes with about 15 questions each. All the information is provided on canvas sorted into weekly modules. Overall, not a difficult course, but you do need to learn to use R studio!
Professor Curley is such a sweet guy! As long as you keep up with your weekly quizzes, it's easy to succeed in this course. There are no trick questions and everything you need is covered in the weekly videos and textbook readings. You can easily go into this course knowing nothing about statistics or programming and be fine.
