He's nice and funny. He kinda looks like Petter Pettigrew from Harry Potter ^.-
hmm! Dr Bloxton! He's cool peoples! funny sometimes! though often I don't know why he's funny or what his jokes are about but i still laugh anyway coz it's impossible not to laugh at or should i say with him!
hes cool and funny guy. i think everyone shoudl try to take him as chem teacher because he is very helpful and understanding.
He is a great Chem teacher. He is very helpful and makes review packets that outline the concepts you will be tested on.. I recommend taking Chem with him.
Cool teacher...i was mad he didnt let us use calculators on the final...but other than that...i recommend him to anyone
He is an awesome teacher. I recommend him to anyone. If you do all the work he requires and show an interest, you will pass. I have learned a lot and he is very funny. Just try and you will do well.
Great teacher...best I had at temple and was actually interested in you passing and understanding the material. I have yet to find one like bloxton! communicated well w/ the students
He's a great teacher, can be boring sometimes. He really makes sure to explain every little step so you understand. Just make sure you get a recitation teacher who knows what he's talking about, and doesn't teach you everything wrong.
Dr. Bloxton was such a good professor. He's so helpful and extremely easy to understand. If you do the work and study you'll def. get a good grade!
Dr. Bloxton is super nice! He tries really hard to learn everyones name if you have him for recitation or lab. He also is very welcome to helping you with anything you do not understand & he answers emails almost immediately. It's almost impossible not to know if you have an assignment due or not because he does a good job reminding the students.
he's a weirdo. makes pointless jokes. laughs at himself and never gets his point across. lecture is pointless. tests are hard. however there are lots of ways to boost your grade. he is very fair and makes sure everyone passes. All in all he was a funny guy and I did well in the class
Good teacher. Fair grader. Take him if you require it as an elective like for Lab-sciences. Fun to take and pass this course. Easy. Just you'll be pissed on labs because there's too much to cover for just 1-credit. I think he should scrap some of the useless material.
Easy. Fair Grader. Very Nice person. Very Helpful. Feel comfortable in his class. Everyone Pass. If you are about to get failing grade.... get a Curve!
Great Chem 1021 and 1022 professor ..Just do the study guides and read the chapters and you'll get an A...
I chose not to take him for lecture because there was a better looking teacher...BAD idea. bloxtons adorable and the course coordinator so you end up getting all the information from him through emails and all the study guides you get are for HIS tests, not whatever professor you're taking. So make life easier for yourselves and take him for lec&l
Bloxton is an interesting character. Loves to ramble on and is a little odd. He means really well and it always willing to help. GREAT GREAT GREAT for recommendation letters and caters alot to nursing. lectures dont help at all. u just need to kno the practice tests and study guides really well. had him for a whole year and love him! great guy!
Dr. Bloxton is one of the best professors I have ever had a Temple. Always willing to help and gives study guides to prepare students for exams. Always responds to emails immediately. Also, has a great sense of humor. Definitely RECOMMEND HIM!! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!
Very easy class! Dr. Bloxton is very thorough with his information and if you want to skip early lecture and read online power points it gives you the same information he teaches. The tests are evened out by homework and quiz grades! Tests aren't hard and neither is lab! Bloxton is the sweetest!
Cool teacher. Really goes out of his way to help you
He was very helpful when it comes to extra guidance. Might be challenging, but it's not so bad.
He's rly helpful and def works hard for his students. def the best chem prof and one of my favorite teachers. The class seemed pretty challenging but he'll help u if u ask questions. Labs are pretty easy. Tests are challenging so study! and he's not the type to hold it against u if u aren't doing well. just a nice person all around. recomended
The teacher really cares about his students. He is really clear when he teaches and tries not to leave any confusion. He's kind of quirky, but that's just his way of connecting to all of this students. He constantly updates you through e-mail with any important information. Go to lecture!!!! It helps!!!!!
Dr Bloxton is one of the sweetest professors I've ever had! He's quirky and fun but also gets to the point when he teaches. You will learn so much in the class and he really takes time to help struggling students. Always keeps you in the loop and truly wants his students to do well. Definitely take him!! you won't regret it
bloxton is really an awesome teacher. one of my favs at temple. really cares about his students.
Dr Bloxton was an extremely nice guy. The material was hard but he tries to break it down for you. since its such a big class there is only so much he can do. when i went to see him at his office hours he wasn't very helpful and instead of answering my questions he just told me where certain material was in the book.
He is an amazing professor and he is there to help and assist not teach and ignore. He is very flexible and he is easy to talk to. If you have issues or are late just talk to him and he will help you. He also teaches rather than run through boring slides. He is awesome. Take his class you will not regret it :)
Bloxton is great teacher if you're not interested in chemistry. He tries to relate the material to everyone, and is very helpful outside of the classroom. He goes above and beyond to make sure everyone succeeds.
Bloxton puts in a lot of time for this class and cares how you are doing. However, you must do your work to keep up- there is a lot of textbook material that he uses for class and for midterms. Just do your work (practice midterms, homework assignments, go to class), and you will be fine. He often tells you what will be on the exams.
Fantastic teacher. Allows you to enjoy chemistry. Very fair with grading. So any opportunities for extra help. Tests are clear and pertain exactly to work done in class. I highly recommend Dr. Bloxton
This man is a saint. He will bend over backwards to make sure you are learning and doing your best. He is a wacky character though and tells corny jokes but if you can tolerate them keep up with notes you can get an easy A in college level chemistry .
He is seriously the sweetest teacher ever because he is one of those rare professors who actually cares about the students. He is easy to talk to and would do anything to help his students understand the material. Bloxton is a silly goofball, he tries to keep the lectures somewhat fun.
Dr. Bloxton is such a great professor. He does whatever he can to help you understand chemistry and if you're having trouble with it he has plenty of grade boosting assignments that will help you out. I'd say he is a rare kind of professor because he cares so much about our success in the course. Definitely take him!
BEST PROFESSOR. Bloxton is the sweetest and dorkiest old man ever. I love him! He really cares about his students and does so much to ensure his students get the best grade possible. Study guides, extra credits, optional review sessions for finals. Great professor. Just great. You'll regret not taking him.
He is thee best professor you will ever have. He genuinely cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed. If you can, have him as your professor.
great professor, I truly loved him. although I am retaking his class. really wants the entire class to succeed. always willing to go above and beyond to help. offers a lot of extra just for attending class.
Great teacher willing to go above and beyond for his students.
He is the best professor I ever had. He wants all of his students to suceed and he made sure that everyone passed his class. He wasn't easy but he made sure you understood all of the material.
Professor Bloxton is the best! He offers optional drill sessions every Friday to help you with problems, and has two review sessions the two nights before an exam. Willing to go above and beyond to ensure his students' success. Asks our opinions on quizzes and tests, truly cares about his students. Best professor I've had.
My favorite professor in undergrad. He truly cares about his students and is always willing to help them succeed. I also learned a lot.
Dr. Bloxton is very helpful. If you study and do the homework you'll do great. He goes above and beyond what he needs to to make sure his students understand the material. Hell tell you almost exactly what you need to know for the tests so there in no surprises on there. I was not very good in chemistry and I got an A in the class overall.
If you get a chance to take Dr. Bloxton's class DO IT!!! Not only is he a great teacher but he gives a lot of chances for extra credit! Its possible to almost get a 100 in this class. ( If you do the homework of course). If you are struggling with anything he will help you out.
Good amount of extra credit on exams. You could probably say THIS MAN gives his students way too much extra credit (tons on hw and quizzes). NO CURVE obviously. Cares about students. Goes over labs during lecture. FAIRLY EASY to get an A- or A ONLY IF you study. HIS Test/quizzes are almost the same as his practice exam/quizzes on BB. *HINT HINT*
Probably one of the best professors you will have at Temple. Gives students extra credit, drill sessions & is willing to help. He absolutely wants you to succeed and cares about his students. Impossible not to get at least a B in his class as long as you do your work. Sends out lots of e-mails, but they're beneficial. TAKE HIM!
He is amazing. He gives extra credit, works through practice problems, and is always willing to help you if you're are struggling. He genuinely cares about his students, and you can tell how passionate he is about Chemistry and teaching just by listening to him in lecture. Take Chemistry with Dr. Bloxton if you get the chance!
He is a great professor and really cares for his students!
If you have to take Chem 1031, take Bloxton! He does anything to help his students and makes learning chem easy to understand. Very quirky, and made class enjoyable. As long as you pay attention in lecture, do the online homework, and read over the power points, you'll get an easy B. Take him, he made chem 1031 fun!
great teacher. I pass him on campus and he still remembers my name. He is extremely helpful, since chemistry is another language to me. He takes his time and breaks everything down. He does not try to trick you.
I have never in my life encountered a teacher as dedicated as Dr Bloxon. He has drill sessions, handouts, pretty much everything you need to learn and understand the material. He's also very pleasant and makes jokes during lecture. Best teacher at Temple hands down.
One of the BEST teacher I've ever had! He is a teacher who's extremely dedicated(especially during the summer), funny, quirky(good) and understanding of his students circumstances. Even though it's the summer, he'd constantly asks his students about the flow of the class and readjust accordingly. If you ever have the chance to take him, DO SO!
Dr. Bloxton is one of the most dedicated teachers ever. He is understanding and when you go to him for office hours, he'll explain and explain until you understand. I'm not great at chemistry but bloxton made it so easy! I have a better base of it thanks to him. I'd take him again if I could. Best teacher hands down. Take him. You won't be sorry.
HANDS DOWN. Best CHEM 1031 professor. He may not be as good as Dr. Price in teaching students with clarity, but Bloxton overall is just a better professor (grading+teaching). Willing to help and very dedicated. Easier exams than the other Chem 1031 profs. He sometimes tries to crack a couple of dry jokes. Just be respectful and smile. :)
Best teacher ever! He made me want to go to 8am lectures. He is very straight forward and does everything to help you understand the material. There is lots of extra credit on the online homework which really helps.
Dr. Bloxton is the sweetest, most caring professor I have ever had. If you ever have questions about anything- he is there! Easy A. The only reason I got a B is because I never studied for tests and slacked off. He gives a lot of assignments and sends out tons of long emails that I never bothered to read. If you're not lazy like me, you'll get an A
Dr. Bloxton is a sweet man with an affinity for extra credit. Lectures weren't mandatory in the beginning but he made them so halfway through the semester. He re-uses problems from worksheets on tests, so pay close attention. He's there for you if you have questions, but is sometimes way too scatterbrained while lecturing.
He is a great teacher if you just want to pass and not really learn. But when you pass, you pass with flying colors. If you really want to learn in depth about chemistry, transfer out quick before all the REAL professors are gone. But don't get me wrong, he's one of the nicest people I know, and he he practically hands out extra credit.
Dr. Bloxton was the best professor I have had at Temple. He is very clear with what he expects from you and is very helpful when you don't understand something. I highly recommend Dr. Bloxton for Chem 1031.
so glad I took Bloxton for Chem 1. It was my second time taking Gen Chem, and I had heard alot about him, that he was strict and had tough tests and no curve, all this really worried me. But Im so thankful i took him because I got a B and passed the class. His tests are SOO MUCH EASIER than Smith's who is the worst professor and hes so helpful.
Bloxton is a great chem prof. Though I covered most of the material on my own, his lecture slides and practice problems make understanding it a lot easier. HOWEVER beware of his online homework and quizzes! It isn't hard if you know it, it's just long and tedious to do so give yourself time for that. And he drops your lowest test so it's an easy B
Dr. Bloxton is THE BEST chemistry professor at Temple. He's an incredible guy, extremely good professor and very understanding. He has his own study sessions and is always willing to help students. If you get a chance take him and not only will you get a good grade but you will learn A LOT. He explains everything very well!
Bloxton has a weird sense of humor. He tries to integrate Chemistry into daily life and it's pretty interesting. As long as you attend his lecture to know what he stresses on and go to recitation to brush up on that, you'll be fine. He gives extra credits, so it's easier to improve scores.
It's been two semesters since I took Gen Chem 1 with Dr. Bloxton, and I'm now reeeeally missing having him as a chemistry professor after experiencing what some of the others are like. He's an awesome guy, really funny, great at teaching, tons of review and extra credit, and his exams are super easy. If you can, definitely take him!
How to get A: (YOU MUST DO THESE TO GET A) Read the text book Whilst writing notes on key terms Do Review Problems at End of Text and problems while reading Do Mastering Chem HW (very helpful) GET A's on Quizzes (work with friends if need be) Get A's On Test Review EVERYTHING that you did for the final That's all I did.
As long as you do all the homework and extra credit. You will not fail!
Dr. Bloxton is hands down the BEST teaxher at Temple U. He cares about his students and guides you through chemistry. If you do the work, you WILL get an A.
For the last few quizzes, he used attendance for quiz grades. Lecture is worth going because he did problems on the board and explained them, which I learned a lot from them. But he had a problem with rushing in the end of lecture. Just try to have some respect for the guy. He is really there for you, through email or in person. Also, the TA helps.
Bloxton was a fantastic professor. He was one of the only professors who actually taught super in depth. He didn't really curve his tests because everyone did so well. All you have to do is go to lecture, study the powerpoints, and do the practice quizzes from blackboard and you will get a good grade. The book also helps if you need extra clarity.
He is one of the better Chemistry profs from what I've heard about other ones. Tests were incredibly difficult and there was never enough time to go over everything in our lectures. A lot of out of class time was spent working on this class.
I took this class for my science elective. The class overall was fairly easy. I basically studied for the test the day before the exam, went to lecture twice & still did well on them as long as you go over the practice exams . However, be ready to do a hell lot of readings and extra work. There was a lot of homework but they're all easy.
This man is the BEST, definition of a great teacher ! He wants his students to do good and does anything in his power to make sure they succeed. He hold his OWN review sessions and hold "drill sessions" almost almost every friday night that are beyond helpful ! TAKE HIM and if you don't... you'll miss out on a wonderful chemistry experience.
He's not only a great teacher but really nice if you put in the work. Although his lectures are kinda redundant he makes the material easy to understand and gives you lots of second chances. I loved having this class even though it was super tedious.
Bloxton is the best and most caring professor you will ever meet, he repeats a lot and cracks jokes that are not funny, but he means well. He loves to help his students learn, and tries his best to teach you all you need to know not only for the class, but for your future career as well. TAKE HIM, its worth it.
Bloxton is an amazing teacher! All the material was taught in depth to give a clear and complete understanding. Last few quizzes were graded on attendance, and gives multiple opportunities for extra credit. Homework helps you understand the material, but you have to apply yourself to get a good grade. He is awesome, take him.
Bloxton has a very kind ol' heart and truly cares about you as a student. His lectures are very detailed and he makes sure that he explains each topic very VERY well. If you do the work and attend lectures, it won't be that hard to earn the grade that you want!
Bloxton is a hilarious old Southern man. Love him dearly, but his lectures are honestly more of a stand up comedy performance than a learning experience. If you read the book and do the homework problems you'll be totally fine in 1021 (the nursing specific chem course). Bloxton is adorable, love him!
Bloxton is a nice old man. His lectures can be very specific and a little dull when he is trying to explain things. Lectures are not mandatory but I would recommend going to them. His tests and quizzes are ok but he sometimes puts in very specific questions to make sure you have read everything.
Sweet old man love this guy. His tests are alittle difficult I suggest reading the textbook. If you have him for lab god bless he takes up every single second. Be prepared for at least an email a day and playing with dipsticks. Overall he's understanding and very sweet. He will help if you ask him. Very lucky to have had him. (Nursing major chem)
Brilliant teacher. Shows empathy towards students (which is rare at Temple). If you have a problem with passing test, he provides enough extra credit so you can at least pass his course. I wish the math professors were like him!
He is a good professor and teaches the material well. Although he may overcomplicate things at times, reading the powerpoint slides will help out. Cracks in a couple of jokes here and there.
Really easy going professor. No need to do the homework even though the TA does check, just show them somethings and you're good. Lectures give good examples so I always went. Plenty of extra credit, and the study guides are almost exact copies of the test. Be prepared for lab tests which are the hardest part
Dr. Bloxton is such an amazing professor. You can tell he has passion for teacher chemistry in his lectures. Not too much homework and he always has review sessions before exams
Dr. Bloxton is the BEST chemistry professor at temple! He is so nice and willing to help his students succeed. Do all the homework because you get extra points for that at the end.
Best Professor at this school. The first time I took it I had Ramella and I didn't learn anything and got a C-. When I took Bloxtan I was learning Chem I understood what I was doing. Hands down best thing that happened to me at this school. He was meant to teach and you feel it and it makes you want to learn.
Dr. Bloxton was a very great professor to have for an 8am lecture! I was worried to take the course because I did not take chemistry for a few years but he made digging back and remembering easy. Definitely recommend going to his optional sessions because that's where you really get the individual attention you might need.
amazing
Bloxton is really helpful and nice. I never liked chem but he makes it bearable. He's always there for extra help if you need it. If you try, you'll pass.
Really good professor, probably my favorite at Temple and I'm not even a chem major. He is incredibly invested in the students and he puts forth a lot of effort to make sure no concepts go on unknown. He also provides plenty of concrete examples on the board and has all of the resources posted to blackboard. Amazing teacher!!
Dr. Bloxton was an amazing chemistry professor that was able to teach chemistry in a different way. i was never really able to understand chemistry and i always got stuck with bad teachers in high school so I was expecting to fail after the first few weeks in lecture and recitation i realized that he is amazing and was very helpful in class and out
I had him for chem 1021. I didn't take chem for a while and was nervous, but there was no need to be nervous at all. There are three exams. The first exam, the midterm, then the final. However, there are quizzes during recitation that are an Easy A if you prepare for them. He gives SO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT. He also holds tutoring sessions every week.
Dr James Bloxton is my favorite professor here at Temple. Although Chem is not my favorite subject, his 8 am lectures always made me laugh. He sets his students up for success with the extra credit he offers, homework he assigns, and the extra time he puts in for review sessions. This is a great man.
Dr. Bloxton is both an incredible professor and human being. He puts in his all to make sure that you learn the material, succeed, and enjoy doing so. He gave plenty of opportunities for extra-practice and I found his grading scale to be quite fair.
Bloxton genuinely cares about his students' success and has a level of enthusiasm for chemistry that i've never seen before. Enjoyed going to lecture in the morning listening to this modern chemistry cowboy.
if you can take him even if it is at 8am just do it. I repeated chem and learned more from Dr Bloxton than the other professor. very accessible during office hours, i advise to abuse it if you don't understand whats going on. His optional reviews and drill sessions help a lot for his exams. Best professor in the chemistry department!!!
Bloxton is actually THE guy. I absolutely loved him! I l learned more Chem from him in one semester than I did in HS in a whole year, AND I actually understood what I was doing this time. I would take him again if I could, even if it was an 8am. Most of the time he keeps his lectures amusing too so they're not too bad. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Bloxton is a very nice and funny guy. If you're not good at math I suggest taking him because most of his lecture consists of going over math problems! The exams are straight forward but you need to read the textbook to understand the concepts. Even though most of class is practice math problems, the exams are 25% math 75% concepts.
Best professor I've had at Temple. The way he teaches just makes you want to attend class. I barely used the book because he taught the material so well. His exams are very similar to what he teaches in class and if you can't attend, he has tucaptures up. Guaranteed a great ACS score if you take Bloxton.
Dr. Bloxton is the kind of teacher who really cares and wants you to do well. He wrote a great recommendation for me for an internship, and years later I contacted him to help me write a coverletter for a job in my field. He has gone out of his way to help me succeed time and again and always goes above and beyond for his students.
Dr. Bloxton is the best teacher EVER. I'm not even exaggerating how good of a person he is. His lecture is really easy to follow. He makes sure you learn and only quizzes/ tests you on stuff he taught. He doesn't make anything tricky; as long as you study, you'll be fine. He also has such a great personality. He's caring and would anything for you.
I had Dr. Bloxton for lecture and lab and although he does tend to go slower, he is such an amazing and fun teacher. I really loved having him! While you do not need to read word for word in the textbook, you will need it to know the chemical connection questions on tests. There are so many extra credit opportunities, so definitely take advantage
Dr. Bloxton is the best professor you can ever take for Intro to Chem. He is caring and loves to crack jokes. Definitely recommend.
He's a bit goofy, but a great professor. He's got a fun sense of humor. Recitation is a great time to do practice problems. He often gave extra credit during lectures when attendance was low that day. He gives lots of hints as to the concepts he tests on. He releases previous exams to practice with. Lots of study material! Homeworks are long but ok
Bloxton is so understanding. He's such a funny guy and although lecture can get boring, he is very good at explaining things. Go to the review sessions he offers before tests! It is extremely helpful and his study guides are very close to the exams he gives. He offers a lot of extra credit as well. Such a caring and udnerstanding professor.
Highly recommend for Chemistry!!!!!! Awesome teacher. Goes an extra step for his students.
There is a reason all of these reviews seem to be positive. He is the best professor I have had at Temple. Tests are fair and often tells you the types of questions that will be on the tests (all multiple choice too!). He is very caring and offers extra credit for just watching videos. Take him even if it is at 8 am!
Hes awsome, very sweet and extremely helpful. Hes pretty lenient as well as FAIR.
G.O.A.T - I sometimes regret not going to a lot of his lectures because he is actually entertaining. For a subject that isn't necessarily easy, he explains the subject matter well and is willing to help students when they need it (e.g. review videos, office hours (lots of hours btw)). HE is also lenient on deadlines sometimes too.
Dr. Bloxton is one of the best professors I have ever had at Temple! He is always available to meet and review, gives ample prep/study guides for both exams and quizzes, and clearly tells you what he is looking for regarding assignments, deadlines, etc. There are SO MANY extra credit opportunities. Put in the effort and you will do great!
He really cares about his students and wants them to do well. Gives tons of extra credit, tests are super easy as long as you do the practice exams he gives you. Other than the subject itself being difficult, he tries to make the class as easy and as interesting as possible. Definitely take his class!
Take his class! 10/10
Dr. Bloxton is the best chem professor at Temple. Personally, chem is difficult for me but he explains the material very well. He really cares about his students and provides many practice exams and review sessions. He's lenient and understanding as well. Chem is not for me but Dr. Bloxton is a great professor!
I took AP chem in hs l and didn't put much effort into it, got a 3 on the exam but I feel like if you took AP chem you will be prepared for this class. I didn't go to class for 2 months and got an A- becuase the online homework teaches you everything you need and there are lots of extra credit. My midterm average was an 86 and i got 87 on the final
Dr. Bloxton's the best! Covers lots of math problems in lecture, has extra credit opportunities, is always willing to help during office hours, & has review sessions for each exam. Skipped a couple lectures and still did very well in the class. Exams are all pretty easy as long as you study and do the practice exams. Workload is heavy but expected
Dr. Bloxton is so nice. He was always making jokes in lecture and is always ready to help during office hours. Most people said he was an easy A, but his exams were unusually hard and he knew it. 2/4 exams, mean was below a 60. He isnt the best at explaining things, but if you pay attention when he does example problems you should be okay.
Didnt show up for about 3 months and ended with an A minus. He realized people would always skip so he started an attendance sheet but i think it was a bluff to scare people tbh. He literally gives away questions from the test in his review session. Easy A.
Dr. Bloxton is awesome! I hate chemistry but he definitely made it enjoyable. His tests are hard but if you go to his review sessions and do his study guides you will be fine. He also is always available for office hours. Definitely recommend him and would take him again in a heartbeat.
Doing all online hw receiving As (which was way too much) and As on quizzes is the only reason I passed. I failed each and every test and there is no curve. I have never studied so hard to scrape by in a course. Going to office hours didnt help much either he just told me to buy more textbooks
Bad professor. Gives exams that are meant to trick students that don't reflect the homework. Office hours aren't helpful either. Please do not take him
Mr. Bloxton was one of the best professors. The class wasnt too hard because his practice tests were just like the test question with different numbers/ elements so youd know exactly what to expect. He was so funny and would happily explain any questions you had.
Really nice guy. The class itself is a lot of work including long homework, studying, and keeping up. Do not fall behind. There are exams that are tough, but he gives a lot of partial credit. Always takes the whole lecture time too.
Really nice guy. The class itself is a lot of work including long homework, studying, and keeping up. Do not fall behind. There are exams that are tough, but he gives a lot of partial credit. Always takes the whole lecture time too. He is old so sometimes can be a bit slow on the technology part, but he is very caring.
Such a nice man. The workload for this class is a lot. You have to put in time and effort. Bloxton is very nice with giving extensions though. There are also several opportunities to gain extra credit. His exams are difficult, but if you do all the other class work. You can maintain a high grade.
He's such a sweet teacher. The only thing was even though his online exams weren't proctored they still were super hard. He does curve them, but just be ready for the exams. The HW are time consuming but super easy. And if he ever offers extra credit DO IT. It will change your grade a whole letter grade if you by the end of the sem. Good luck!
Dr Bloxton cares about his students. He pushes back due dates and will give an extension if you need one. His exams were very hard and difficult even if you know the material, I suggest going to class. The homework was time consuming but not too difficult and I didn't really study because of the practice from the home work.
Does not offer feedback when asked to. Would not recommend him. Lectures are pointless you, basically have to teach yourself.
He really cares about his students and this course, the material itself is just hard. The grading system for tests is kinda weird but the homework and checkpoints help a ton. Make sure you go to class.
Bloxton is a really nice and approachable Professor. However this is only the class for you if you learn best by learning from examples. Lectures only include problems and you basically have to learn everything else by reading the textbook (trust me, read the text). Tests are graded weird, but checkpoints boost your grade a lot!
Bloxton is bae. Gen chem was completely overhauled during COVID, and it seems like he doesn't really understand the new curriculum layout but he's trying his best anyway. The difficulty/material of the course isn't really up to him, so I won't comment on that. This class is basically self-taught. He's accessible outside class + loves bart simpson.
Loved this course. It seemed like he wanted to see his students pass so he gave many opportunities to help your grade. Just go to lecture because he takes attendance on Canvas and does a couple questions on PollEverywhere which will count for your participation. Unit assessments weren't great but they were also not worth much.
He's a sweetheart of a person, and genuinely helps you when you need it. It's pretty hard to fail his class, you literally have to not show up, you get so many attempts and chances, that just passing should be no issue, and getting an A requires a little work.
I never showed up to class and basically studied one day a week and got an A-. If you go to class and study, there is no excuse for you to not get an A. Dr Bloxton is the GOAT.
Bloxton only reads off the powerpoint during lecture, and there are too many students for him to care about them personally. His exams are waaaay too difficult for an intro class, and half the material is too complicated as well. There was far too much information and specificity for this level of a course. I heard the next chem class was easier.
Dr. Bloxton is a good professor, and he explains concepts in detail. Lectures are definitely more interesting if you ask questions to stay engaged, otherwise he'll mostly read off his slides (not his fault, it's an intro chem class). He gives you a lot of chances to boost your grade, so take them!
Dr. Bloxton could be better at instruction because he moves super slow and does the easiest problems in classes. Tests are hard and are graded on a 3 point scale, meaning you either get a 0%, 33%, 66%, or 100%, which can mess up your grade since there's 4 tests each worth 5%. Other than that its an easy course to pass.
Professor Bloxton is a sweetheart and will do everything to make sure his students succeed. However, don't let that fool you his class is extremely difficult specifically his exams. He is very accessible outside of class so utilize his office hours because he really does care and wants every to pass his class. Btw don't skip his lectures.
Bloxton is honestly a great teacher. The tests are honestly quite hard if you aren't sure about what you're doing so you kind of have to teach yourself sometimes. Otherwise he's a good teacher
Great prof! He is really helpful in his office hours and takes the time to know each student who comes. He knows chem is a hard course but does his best to help out students. Mostly goes over practice problems in lectures which is helpful for exams
Dr Bloxton is so precious with how excited he gets about a subject he's been teaching for so long. He loves his job and he does a good job at it, too. During office hours he is busy, but always willing to make time to help, even outside of office hours. Very easy to talk to as well outside of chemistry related topics.
A professor is supposed to be professor-ing but this man thinks doing poll questions and solving them is everything. He himself has to be writing these reviews because there's just no way. Class literally is about just showing up, watching him solve poll questions, going back home in agonizing pain, and learning everything by yourself.
Lectures are confusing and he gets off track easily. Has horrible handwriting so I can barely take down or read the notes he writes down for us to copy. All we do in lecture is do poll questions and listen to him talk. I don't really learn much from lecture, but he is good one on one when you have questions and when we have review sessions.
Honestly, I do not think that Professor Bloxton is a bad person or professor. Bloxton is very lecture heavy but his lectures are pointless. He is more likely to write out equations on the board than actually explain concepts. His classes typically score the lowest on the exams as a result of this. Be prepared to teach yourself before exams.
This course required a decent amount of work, however it was by no means unmanageable. His exams require that you pay the utmost attention to wording/small details of the answer choices. He is accessible outside of class and is extremely caring of his students. Recommendation: using Tyler Dewitt's youtube videos as supplemental material.
Honestly, Bloxton isn't that bad. I learned that we have to read the textbook before the lecture and he makes that super clear himself. He knows the course is hard and he does everything he can to help the students get a higher score. He gives tons of extra credit opportunities. He doesn't teach very well, but reading the textbook will help.
Bloxton is very caring and replies to emails within the same day. He offers extra credit opportunities so that's great. Definitely would recommend not skipping lecture because he goes over problems and how to solve them. Make use of the textbook as well as supplementary work prior to the exams!
Great guy but sometimes I just lose him. If you can't understand what he is saying just don't go to lecture and read the book and look at recitation worksheets to study. He's a slow lecturer but cares about his students. He has a weird sense of humor.
He's a funny guy, but his lectures are really heavy. Please make sure you read the book. It costs around $130 to get the book and do the homework. They have over 30 questions so please DO NOT do them the day before it is due. You will stay up. He DOES NOT teach at all, he only does questions based on the reading. He is very chill but very harsh.
He usually cramps a lot of information into one class, he ends class late, sweet man but I personally wouldn't take him again
If you would like to learn chemistry do not take it with this professor. During the lectures he writes problems on the board and reads slides word for word without any explanation. You will teach yourself in this class and spend hours on top of the hour long homework assignments. Office hours are no help you are better off taking it somewhere else.
Professor Bloxton is a very nice guy and cares a lot about his students. He is very accessible outside of class and offers a lot of office hours at different times throughout the week. He also offers a lot of extra credit opportunities. There is two midterms and one final.
Idk how to feel about Bloxton, such a nice guy, just not the best professor. He like wants the student to be challenged and struggle, like he wants to really chanllege the mind, but it's like sir I need to pass this class Yk lol. He does give extra credit which is great! My only advice is to be super attentive, study, get a tutor and make friends.
Honestly, great professor and cares deeply about his students. He often tries to remind students of due dates and any additional resources outside of class to pass his exams. He gives out a ton of extra credits which can really shape your grade. Downsides to his class is three exams adding up to 80% of your course grade and unorganized office hours
good luck.
He's a sweet man but very disorganized. Every other class I take It's reading, homework, lecture. This guy is all over the place. He also changed the weight of our first exam from 8 percent to 16 percent in the middle of the year. I honestly thought he'd be better because everyone said he's the best chem professor.
I will say the only reason I did well in the class was because I remembered a bunch of stuff from high school. Hell started to break lose when we learning new stuff. I highly recommend reading the textbook and going to multiple recitations if you need help.
He's a witty guy I'll give him that!! Very passionate about what he teaches. Makes sure you understand the material. The lectures can (most of the time) just be him reading off of powerpoints, so sometimes it gets really boring. Good at making sure we review before exams, which has truly helped me! Very lenient and understanding as well.
He seemed cool at first, but I was wrong. Although very nice, he was very disorganized, lectures were unhelpful, and exams were graded weirdly since answer choices didn't correlate with question, leaving the class average to be in 50s-60s range. What is taught in lecture never correlates with exam questions. He offers extra credit, which is cool.
Sorry guys, my ranking for the difficulty of his midterm exams was cut off. I will just post it here (least to most difficult): 3rd midterm < 4th midterm < 2nd midterm < 1st midterm. This is just my subjective opinion of how hard his midterms were so please don't let this base any of your decisions! Good luck everyone!
I took Gen Chem 1 with Bloxton back in Fall 2022 so please forgive me for the late review. This man is truly the best professor in the Gen Chem dept! From calling in Bart to his other quirky moments that I can't recall right now, I can say that Bloxton is truly a hilarious and passionate chem professor! My ranking of midterm difficulty: 1
The class is challenging but doable with dedication. Reading the textbook, attending recitations, and using unstuckstudy for practice are key. The professor is caring but sets high expectations. Overall, a rewarding experience.
His accent is sometimes hard to understand, and his writing is literal chicken scratch. He will not give you a chance to redo any homework. He moves too quickly in lectures.
I am taking Dr. Bloxton for Nursing right now as a freshman, and when I started the course I was very scared but as I got to know him, he is just the sweetest man ever, he is so sweet. But beware, the class is chemistry at a college base, it is hard, lots of homework, lecture and recitation too, but he helps. Office hours helps, and I adore him!!!!
I'm currently taking Dr. Bloxton for nursing, and he is literally the sweetest man ever. The homeworks can get a little overwhelming but he cares about his students a lot and his grading is pretty fair. Im just bad at chemistry so I struggled learning it but he gave us a lot of sources to learn all the materials. Love him!
Sent out ten hours of recorded lectures over the break. it was only for 5 points of extra credit.
He is nice and funny but he makes a lot of mistakes when going over problems in lecture and students always have to correct him which was very confusing. Exams are multiple choice but if you don't show your work you will receive no credit which was difficult as someone who relies on multiple choice to be easy.
don't procrastinate, study hard, and communicate with Dr.B also try to make friends in the class that helps a lot
Professor Bloxton's 1021 class is manageable. His extra credit can make a whole letter difference so make sure to do them. The practice exams he supplies are very similar to the actual midterms. He loves to ramble. Just put in the work and you'll pass.
Chemistry isn't an easy course, and Bloxon isn't a great lecture teacher at all. But he is funny and gives an insane amount of extra credit because he cares and doesn't want you to fail. Do the study guides, extra credit, and all the owls. I would definitely recommend this teacher.
Chemistry is a hard subject, but Bloxton tries to make it easier by giving lots of extra credits! Lecture is important, and the tests are just like the practice exams, just different questions. Go to his office hours, make friends and study groups. He's so sweet, I love him dearly. Do the homeworks in advance, dont wait.
if you're bad at chem like me don't expect to learn anything from lecture or from this professor. He's a nice guy and passionate but seriously bad at teaching. You'll have to teach most of the material to yourself. No curves, but usually some kind of extra credit. Go to office hours for any semblance of teaching.
This professor's lectures were not very helpful, so make sure to review outside of class. The exams were just like the practices posted, which helped during the exam. He is a nice guy and works out the problems on the board. Overall, he was a good professor but work needs to be done outside of class.
All I gotta say is RUN. AS FAST AS YOU CAN.
All I gotta say is you better start studying the first day of classes make sure you pass all the tests, because that final exam is crazy. Make sure you get 95-100 on hw 100 in participation every point matters and do all the extra credit you will pass. He's the best chem professor out of everyone, make sure to see him regularly so he knows you.
One of the best professors I've had in the science department. He truly cares about students passing and offers plenty of extra credit opportunities. Sometimes curves the grades, which really helps. His lectures can be fun and engaging. I would definitely recommend taking his class!
Dr. Bloxton was a great professor for General Chemistry! He genuinely cares about students succeeding. He has regular office hours and is always willing to answer questions. He also makes it clear when certain topics are important and will be tested on if you pay attention in his lectures.
Lectures can be hard to follow and it can sometimes be hard to understand what he's saying. He gives extra credit opportunities and wants his students so succeed in the class, but the tests are hard and a huge chunk of your grade. You'll likely spend lots of time teaching yourself concepts from his class.
Please be prepared to teach yourself. Completely outdated.
Dr. Bloxton is a great professor! He cares about students understanding the information and emphasizes important topics that will be on tests. My semester had 5 tests which included the cumulative final. Although chemistry is hard and he has high expectations for students, I ended with a 97%. Attend class and you will do fine! Also he's hilarious!
Very diffiucult class test heavy if you are not a genius you will not pass this class.
Took him for 1 and 2 and he got worse. He's super nice but if you aren't naturally good at chem you will struggle. I went to his lectures but they are a waste of time bc he literally just reads his notes that are already provided to us the textbook. He does give practice exams that are super helpful which he goes over during class.
Dr. B is interesting, he's a funny guy, he just can't keep people's attention in class. People stopped going to chem lecture at 8am and recitation so he made attendance mandatory, the people that went to class got more extra credit. Homework takes forever, 4 exams, difficult but you can pass if you know what you're doing, study, and you'll be fine!
Genuinely started scoring higher on tests once I stopped showing up to his lectures, which are honestly just timewasting simulators. His lectures are hard to follow since he insists on not using powerpoints. He also gives extra credit almost exclusively to people who get 100% on assessments
It's not funny to waste thousands of dollars because you were forced to take his class. He does not take making a test seriously. I take my career very seriously he doesn't. I cannot believe he made this the right answer on an exam: D. None of these choices are correct according to Bart! Do you believe Bart?
genuinely just read the textbook, do the practice exams and youll be fine, lectures were boring but i went for poll everywhere, and his midterms were loaded with extra credit, only took 4 quizzes in recitation (week before midterm) they were more difficult than the midterm bc theres no practice questions, cool enough professor
Bloxton gave so much extra credit in this class it was genuinely hard to fail. There was like a 17% curve on one exam and he just gave extra credit randomly if you showed effort. Attendance isn't graded but he gives extra credit if you go. He is really funny and cares a lot, he just wants people to try.
Dr. Bloxton is a really kind and dedicated professor. You can tell he cares about his students. He doesn't assign a ton of grades, mostly just exams and the final, but he offers a lot of extra credit, which is great. I'd recommend participating in recitation so he gets to know you better. Overall, a fantastic guy and a class I'd recommend!
