PRO: Has generous opportunities for extra credit in the syllabus, helps those who help themselves. CON: Somewhat dorky, has ridiculously stringent in-class rules that make you feel like you're back in high school again.
If you want a liberal Ted Bundy to be your teacher, go with this guy. His words go by at a hundred miles per hour, but only trying to listen to him gets you a speeding ticket. He's confusing, playful, and needs a home. Please call your Animal shelter.
He was helpful and offer a lot of extra credit. There is no reason you shouldn't pass his class. One of the last liberal democrats. He's awesome!
Pros:good study guides, extra credit. Cons:cheesy jokes galore, high school rules, research paper, brags too much about his accomplishments. Fairly easy class for me, but a nightmare for others u can't pass 3 quizzes.
Makes politics fun and relevant. Online quizzes ease stress. Fair grader with many extra credit options.
Took him over the summer. He is awesome and really cares about his students. Got an A
This guy is so helpful and interesting. Great sense of humor and breathes some life into American government. Take this class!
great instructor!
Wonderful guy and great class. All of the extra credit raises you one full letter grade. Great personality, but you must put in the work to get the grade. The work is busy work though. Very pleasant personality and not dorky or very boastful at all. Best pol sci teacher on campus!
I did not try his political class. I don't know what he is like as a teacher but I took his service learning course and he is so lay back and very nice.
I hate this teacher. You have to work very hard in his class to get an A!!. If you just t came out of Hgh School. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. If you are willing to work very very hard, go ahead take this class. I thought he was really hard.
Great teacher! Very fair grader. Take-home, repeatable quizzes, fun extra-credit, goes out of his way to help students do well.
Do not take this call. No one can stand to here someone talk about himself over and over. Can be a great person as long as he is not in front of the class.
Awesome teacher who helps students succeed. Very fair grader. His funny real-life stories enliven the class and keep politics from being boring. I love his practical politics lessons. Take this class if you want to have fun learning.
i have neva heard someone talk abt the same thing over and over and over again, hes like a ez and chill guy but it seems his greatest appomplishment was being a politcal assitant or sumthing, i cant even remember becuase those stories of his annoyed me. Ne way take em if ur a patient person; EZ clas
Good teacher. Teaches you new things about politics and gives plenty of extra credit for you to jump at least one letter grade (fall&spring only). Research project was a b*tch, but after that, it should be smooth sailing.
Awesome teacher. Very helpful and clear. Good sense of humor makes class fun
His class is boring and his online tests are ridiculously hard. He goes off on tangents and little of what he says applies to his tests. You have to pass an online test in order to be eligable for the midterm. The tests can be re-taken, they're incredibly difficult. Spare yourself the pain.
His tests are hard because they do ask for minutia, which I always disliked. He's pretty hard on essays, so make sure your writing skills are up to snuff before you take him (and mind reading skills, too). His in class lectures are usually interesting. Take good notes. He can be a jerk sometimes.
I have never learned more in a class. Good practical political tips. Tough but fair. Very helpful instructor.
dawson is one of the worst teachers i have ever had. he never prepares you for tests, all he does is talk about his worthless life and how he worked for a bunch of no name politicians. he is very boring...DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Previous post is whack! Dawson is tight! EZ study guides that he reviews with whole class plus online quizzes you retake 'til pass. Very cool human. Prior to class: hated politics. Now: totally down with it!
The previous guy got a B because he was a lazy ass. With Jim Dawson you have plenty of extra credit (almost 1 1/2 full grade) the quizzes are online which makes it easier for students. Midterm and final are rather easy because Prof. Dawson gives a study guide and almost %65 of the questions are from there. Group project was fun!!
i recommend this teacher to everyone who wants to take political science he is a great teacher.
this guy is a weirdo, he talks with his eyes clossed and rambles on about everything but what you need to know. hes ok but is very harsh on the online quiz. not an easy A like i assumed this class would be
Loved this professor. He is funny and very supportive. Earned an A grade...not an easy A, but very achievable. Most of my class got either an A or B.
Do not Take!!!
very bad teacher. I had a death in the family and he would not allow me to make up a test. i could not belive it! every other teacher was sensitive to this issue, he just does not care about his students period!
Definately go to the Midterm and Final reviews. The teacher is very liberal, it shows in his lectures. He's nice, but not an easy A, you work for it.
the craziest teacher i've ever had won't let you even go to the bathroom. easy B study notes
One of the easier classes ive ever taken, there is so much extra credit (up to one and a half grades) available, to not get an A or B is ridiculous! Also, he allows you to retake online quizes multiple times until you pass. EASY A, i dont know what everyone is talking about!
My major is political science and this guy almost made me change my mind. The most boring lecturer. Talks the whole class period non-stop and while talking his eyes are closed. I wanted to kill myself in this class. A lot of extra credit available. Very boooooring teacher. Do not enroll in his class. Save yourself. LOL.
He is so boring. Talks and can't stop. You can stay with your hand up for the whole period and he will not look at you. Does not appreciate that u did the job ok, he has to take out points to feel that he has graded it. You take 3 quizes online and they are super hard. 1 Group activity.3 papers. 2 tests. Sometimes funny, most times boring!!!
I HATE Jim Dawson and so did everyone in my class, I can't believe anyone would give him a positive rating. I thought he would be easy, but he is the absolute worst teacher at pierce, and that is suprising! Im an A student and recieved a C, because I had a REAL family emergency but he didn't care. DO NOT TAKE!!!
For an 8am class, it was pretty interesting. Although he is unclear at times. He does not follow the book. Goes on his own. Online quizzes must be taken and passed before midterm/final in order to pass the class. Research paper, hw, and group project. All easy if you give a little effort. All in all, he was pretty good. He knew his stuff well.
Don't believe those negative people. I took this prof twice for two different classes, earned two A grades, and learned a lot. Great guy and wacky sense of humor. Caring teacher.
Not hard at all if you come to class each day. I didn't even read the textbooks before taking the online quizzes and I was fine. He's funny, but doesn't follow his own lesson plan very well.
Gives plenty of extra points but a little difficult on the essay exams. I'm a strong writer and I never got the points I thought I deserved. Still received an "A" but he made me work for it.
Professor seems really nice at first but can be really mean. If you don't need this class, do no take!!!
Comes off with a big smile, and tells you you will get an A. But he is very bad with his requirements and they don't make sense at all. I really regret taking his class.
This class was great! He has a very student- friendly system, offering bonus points and a great study-guide for the midterm and final. He has a good sense of humor and really wants his students to succeed. I recommend this class.
Straightforward class. Enough extra credit is offered to push grade up one letter grade, possibly two (high C to a low A). Most of the questions on the study guides are the same on the tests. Study sessions before the tests go over the study guides in detail. Easy A if you put a little effort in. Highly recommended.
the best poly sci teacher
A great teacher - he really knows his stuff, and is always willing to help his students. shows tons of films in class, and doesn't stick to the textbook. grade consists of 2 exams and a "book club". all in all, he's a really goofy guy, but an awsome teacher - he can really get you into political science.
i dont know how ppl give this guy a bad rating. hes like AMAZINGLY EASY.all u need is to attend the reviews b4 finals and midterms... 80% of his qs are from there, and for the rest u must read the la times, but he gives u the articles and discussed them in class. midterm paper-- he lets u look at his notes, and copy them.
Jim Dawson is awesome. I had no interest in the subject before his class but he's so damned goofy and entertaining to listen to that I find it hard to be bored. He's genuinely nice and helpful and is very generous with extra credit. Doing poorly in this class is nearly impossible and only the most pathetic/lazy "students" would whine about him. Awesome guy.
Mr. Dawson was by far my favorite teacher from Pierce, I transferred already, and he's the best teacher by far. His class is a challenge, because there's a lot of reading, but if you're serious about learning, and putting time and effort in the class, you will surely pass. Take him, Highly recommend.
I took his Winter 2007 class. He is the best. He makes politics fun to learn. The class assignments consists of: One Essay (two pages), 3 online quizzes , 1 midterm and final exam. So easy. But if you want that A or B you really have to work for it. He may be a goof ball at times. But he is a great Poly Sci teacher. You gotta love him!!!
Mr. Dawson is a wonderful teacher who really has a lot of experience in the political world. He is kind and helpful and he gives you 60% of the test questions in a review. TONS of extra points available so if you fail you pretty much should drop out. Really, really great teacher.
OMG I love politics and it's my major, but this guy is a joke! He lets his students make the class policy, and ALL he does is joke around and talk a little about the importance of what we're supposed to be LEARNING! I am so mad at his class I dropped it, my first drop with a 'W' on it! I'm retaking PolySci2 in the summer, hopefully with someone wit
Don't like this guy! 4th year Senior at CSUN and I felt like I was in H/S again. Attendance mandatory. Tests Easy. Kicked students out on exam review day b/c didnt have review ?'s answered. Don't need book for online quizes. Google and Wikipedia can b ur BFF. Lectures he gets off topic. Seems nice but don't let him fool you. Waste of my summer!
I recommend all students not to take him he is by far the most useless teacher ever and he is so lazy that he makes u print out everything urself from online like the notes, quizes, study guide, articles, assignments, and etc.....
Professor Dawson's class is pretty great. He gives you most of the answers to the midterm and the final, and there is plenty of extra credit. He's really goofy and funny, the time goes by pretty fast when he's teaching. You could just show up for the reviews and probably end up passing the class. I definitely recommend it.
Look, we all have to take Pol Sci 1, right? Why not enjoy it? Prof. Dawson is very helpful, knowledgable, and fun. I have signed up for a second class with him because I enjoyed the first so much.
guys and gals, what is it to me if write a lie, probably nothing, he is anal about grading. Two tests, 4 online quizzes, (which by the way you don't have to read the book) one stupid essay that he anal about grading it (he thinks he is an English teach, thanks god that he isn't. Not re commanded. He is a stupid son of a **** lazy ass.
very boring class. i found myself staring at the clock so i can get out of there. I've had a stressful semester becuase of him! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
An awesome teacher and awesome class. Very entertaining and funny dude. Clear and fair grader. His classes are always full and popular.
I have never made any complaints against any teacher, but Jim Dawson is an ****. He kick u out class if: u r 15 min lat, haven;t printed the study guide or if not answered the questions (during the rev. session). Very Anal on the essay grade, he thinks he is an English teach. If you want to learn political science, DO NOT TAKE HIM.He Sucks.
I didn't get much out of this class. I was pretty jazzed to take a class on Modern World Governments, but I didn't learn as much as I would have liked. He's not a bad guy, but he's kind of anal about some things. Pretty hard to get an A as he grades the essay midterm pretty hard, but a B is likely.
Yes h eis very anal and you can hate hime at times, but when it comes down to it just follow his instructions and i guarentee you wil do well. It was an extremely easy A for me! He is only uptight cuz his former students told him to not let people push him around, and its the students who made up most of the stupid rules!!
He is not a good teacher at all!!! do your self a favor and dont take this class with him. boring as hell! talks like he is a machine. as people described him before: ANAL!
I really enjoyed Prof. Dawson's Political Science 1 class. His lectures are very organized and easy to follow. Must take A LOT of class notes as exams are mostly on class notes. Makes lectures interesting by talking a lot about current events and requiring newspaper readings. He tells you exactly what you need to do to get a good grade.
I really liked taking this class with Mr.Dawson. He is strict but there is no reason for a college student not to be able to follow some simple rules. He is funny and his lectures are interesting he helps you a lot so that you can do well in his class. I took his class for winter and I enjoyed it
Pretty good teacher. The final and midterm are heavily based on his lectures - be prepared to take notes! He talks fast and flips around on subjects at times, but he gets the information across. I wouldnt say its the easiest A, but you can definitly one if you show up - especially for the exam reviews.
Prof. Dawson, was so very helpful for me in Service Learning 2. I needed a volunteering position at school and he helped me to find one. I am very grateful to him for his kindness and understanding nature. Service Learning is a wonderful class I will do over again.
He basis his class on lectures so take notes! Book is only for online work. Hes very clear and loves what he talks about. Shows a lot of movies. Not a lot of hw. I would RECOMMEND HIM!!
Great teacher. Classes are fun. He gives you 5 bonus points for perfect attendance but make sure you take notes and study and you'll be alright.
Great Prof! You can get 5 bonus points for perfect attendence (less than 4 absences) and 20 more if you successfully pass online quizzes! It can bring your grade up from a C to an A!! Very helpful and clear! He gives you answers to 70% of the questions on the midterm and final! Make sure you read all the news articles! Got an A+
He knows his stuff.Watch out if you're DSPS student. All of the information you get tested on comes from the lectures. If you have to utilize a notetaker you might be screwed due to the quality of the notes. Notetaker gets extra points for taking notes. The notes of my backup were better than the outlines from my main notetaker! ;( Not cool!
What a sweet and awesome professor! He's has an engaging manner so you won't be bored in class; he repeats important info several times and makes sure to take any questions during the lecture. Highly recommended!
lots of unnecessary requirements. extremely critical grader... a failed politician looking for an audience, who just so happens to find his stage in a campus. with that said, he does have a sense of humor.
Very nice teacher. Easy class, make sure you read the news articles! You do have to know a bit of politics b4 entering this. He teaches, thinking you already know about politics. Provides study guide and will review it with you.
very nice guy, tough teacher. tons of unnecessary assignments.. ex: 3 online exams that you don't get credit for, bookclub? this isn't middle school.
What can I say if you are a political science major you might not like his class. Be very open minded, and well I thought his class was boring. Read a bunch of newspaper articles, watched some good films, and heard his lecture. He has a group book project, multiple choice tests, treats you like a child, he embarrassed this girl in class it was mean.
Great teacher with a nice personality, very enthusiastic. The class is not hard at all if you do what he wants you to do. One of my favorite teachers/classes at Pierce!
Boring class but he's a nice teacher. Not that many assignments but you need to listen to every single thing he says. You will probably get a B in the class, A if you're determined
Great class..learned a lot. Hes very nice and smart. Made me interested in poli sci. This class is not boring at all. Looks like Brad Pitt..cutie :)
If you dont like this class than u are very lazy and/or dont have a sense of humor. He has interesting stories and shows good videos.
Somewhat funny guy IF you don't get on his bad side. First class he said he "didnt really believe in rules" and then proceeded to kick people out for talking 1 minute after bell rang, yell at people about eating in class during breaks, etc. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Strange. Anyways, take notes in class and during films and read the news articles!
I'm honestly surprised to see so many nice reviews. When I took this class, I was excited to learn and I am an A student. He is rude, unbelievably hard, and babbles about subjects we never have to know. I warned my friend but she still took him over summer. She called me the second week and told me I was right.
It was a brand new class being taught at Pierce, but that doesn't excuse how disorganized Dawson is. In his other classes I'm sure he's great though. Easily frazzled. Doesn't encourage class discussion, except from those that think the way he does. For those who've read Harry Potter, he's a lot like Professor Umbridge; seems nice, but really not.
Boring teacher, just lectures all day and makes it seem like he really cares when he doesn't. Very Biased, favors students. If you can take notes of everything he says and he talks super fast, your good. I got a D on all my tests and passed with a C, didn't do nething, never went to class, just the study guide and review session.
He's an ok lecturer, but he talks way too fast to keep up. You're at a disadvantage if you miss a test because no matter how legitimate your excuse may be, he'll NEVER let you make it up. Wont let you stay if you walk in 15 minutes late, wont let you talk to your neighbors, and no walking out of class early. Embarrasses students who violate rules.
taking the Honors version. its unreasonably easy. but, youre gonna have to pander to his opinions if you want an A. if youre a republican/libertarian who is very open with their opinion, i'm warning you. the class is cake if you keep quiet or sound like an msnbc talking point.
Loved it, will do it again, learned a lot, not a teacher for lackers, only those who are serious about learning need to apply!!!
Took him for Honors Polisci 1 and Polisci 2. He approaches Political Science from a completely liberal perspective, so anticipate that, but overall he is helpful and offers a ton of extra credit, so you're guaranteed a B or C. Lectures can be boring, but overall it's an easy class.
service learning 1 with this teacher is hell. 6 online exams that are very hard. 18 hours of working and a reflection paper! and no matter what is your reflection paper is he will give you a B. dont take him.
Best prof ever...took him for political science and service learning. Really enjoyed both classes and earned an A in both. Great teacher, great sense of humor.
Don't take this class and do not hurt your grades.Helpless and unfair professor. He suppressed my willingness to volunteer as a Pierce college student.
If you want to be treated like you're 12 and that your opinion doesn't matter, then this is the professor to take! I am pretty opinionated about my views so when he asked for our opinions, I gave him mine. He refused to call on me for the rest of the semester and barely even acknowledged my concerns when I voiced them.
Cool teacher, real boring class. Don't take this professor if you're a sleepy type, for sure you'll snore.
He's very Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. He's an okay teacher, but can't say the same for how he treats his students. He's very mean sometimes, and he isn't afraid of embarrassing them. He acts very condescending, and is very close-minded.
It's an easy class, just make sure you take the quizes (which he gives no credit for, but are mandatory to pass), he gives loads of extra credit, gives you the answers to most of the questions on the midterm and final beforehand. He does have kind of a fake attitude, you don't really need to take notes just show up and listen to what he says.
He wants his students to succeed so he tries to be as straight forward as possible. Some people are excessively sensitive and should not evaluate a professor based on emotions. Midterm, a short paper, 3 online quizzes, newspaper readings, a book club project and a final which he gives study guides for. Take him if you are willing to work! I gotan A
The class was fun because he really gets you into the topics going on in the world. I never used to read the LA times but after his class you kind of wonder what goes on in the world. The tests are right in the middle you do need to study to pass and he really cares about his students so he helps anyway he can really easy to talk too.
Oh Professor Dawson, one of the more nerve wrecking classes I have taken. I think one golden rule is, follow directions. Personally I liked him and his class but I can imagine the four students who got kicked out of the mid term do not agree nor the 2 that had to leave the final. Cut throat but necessary, to an extent.
too much material, pointless activities
I have taken many online classes and this was one of the best. Very clear requirements, good study tips, plenty of chances to do well, well-paced. Highly recommended
I haven't taken many online classes before but he definitely has too much criteria for a student to do in a week including reading two books, his lectures, post articulate posts in forums as well as reply to two others... and that's not even mentioning the quizzes, midterm and final exam. Wonderful course if this is your major but it's not mine!
Wonderful online class that was well paced. Plenty of chances to pass the online quizzes. Midterm and final were very straightforward and easy if one uses the sample questions. Be prepared to read news articles that are posted a few times per week. Good communicator... seems to want his students to succeed.
Man, I had to drop the first week because this professor was so unorganized and is incredibly vague. He didn't post nearly anything for a guide on what readings and assignments are due when so it made it impossible to complete work on the course. Save yourself the annoyance and don't take this guy, who is apparently technologically illiterate.
Best online class taken. Very clear requirements. Each open-book quiz offers extra credit. Tip: midterm and final questions are the same as the study questions listed at the end of each lesson. Forums are okay if you follow his tips.
Vague all the way. Gives unnecessary reading/work and wants you to think like him. None Pol Science majors should look for straight up prof that sticks to the textbook.
I took Political Science 1 as an online summer course. The amount of work is equivalent to a full 16 week semester, but with absolutely zero guidance from the professor. Reading 2 books with a total of 600 pages in 4 weeks, 4 mandatory 50 question quizzes that have no impact on your grade, but must be taken to be eligible for the final.
Took his online class, if you can avoid him. His tests are tricky, the questions are multiple choices but the have the similar answers. Even if you go with the best choice the answer is wrong. His essays are so painful he is so picky. If you don't write it like he wants you to, you get a bad grade. Final mid term 100 questions and you have 50 mis
Professor Dawson is very specific on how he wants assignments done, he goes a bit further with an abundance of detail that either confuses you or stresses you. His tests are very tricky and misconstrued to throw you off, unusually by a single word like "a", "or", "if" etc. Beware he expects you a lot, text books, newsprint's and videos. hotmess
I like the structure of his online class- it's clear and organized. Every week, there is an assigned reading packet, as well as a discussion forum. I found the material really interesting. Make sure to do the assigned work for each week and not leave it all until the end. Professor Dawson also kindly offers 20 extra credit points, which really help
Loved this easy class. All the midterm and final exam questions were provided weekly on study lists. Forums are academically oriented so be sure to focus, but just like writing a very short college paper. Very clear requirements, especially for an online class.
Very interesting political philosophy class. Not too much reading and online lessons are entertaining. Midterm and final exam questions are all provided well ahead of time. Need to spend time on composing forum posts to earn high points.
Do you like doing LOTS of unnecessary busy work? Then this is the class for you. This was 16 wks of work crammed into a 5-wk Summer course. Once I figured out which work mattered, I was able to prioritize and find a rhythm. Substantial E/C helped bump me up a whole letter grade. If you need this class, take the longer Spring/Fall version.
You are going to have to read 2 chapters a week and do in-depth research and writing each week. If this is your only class, its great. If you are taking a full load, have a lot on your plate, or are an older student juggling life I would stray away. Its just too much. Too much expected from you for a single class.
Professor Dawson is academic in every sense of the word, he is also caring and kindly offers great feedback on every assignment you turn in. He also gives many chances to his students to perform well on his tests and quizzes.
I honestly just didn't like him. He's just extremely nit-picky for such a basic class. There is a strong arrogance there and it wasn't fun to be around. I actually dropped the class because I rather feel inspired to learn rather than suffocated in the learning process because of a prof's attitude. Taking this class now with a new prof who's great!
The fact that there was almost NO communication from the teacher, and that there were so few assignments, that each was EXTREMELY heavily weighted. I was not given a proper deadline for assignments and was not given appropriate feedback on any assignments. this course was extremely biased and this instructor Jim Dawson was clearly not into his job.
Pros and cons: On the one hand, he is very communicative and gives regular announcements. On the other, he provides very few assignments and they are heavily weighted. I received a high B on the final, B's on 3 of 4 quizzes (one of which was done for extra credit), and my course letter grade was still a C based two harshly graded forums.
Well organized, clear grading, and plenty of extra credit. Well paced class with plenty of chances to retake quizzes and do well.
I took Professor Dawsons class after a friend recommended it. Glad I did! Got me current with political events. He is great with feedback. Relaxed pace, especially compared to my university history classes.
I took his 5 week class online over the Summer and it was alright. He has 2 major discussion posts, which is graded heavily, and 3 quizzes (4th one is extra credit). He has sample questions at the end of every lesson so study of those. The quizzes are fairly easy, but what messed up my grade was the discussion posts and midterm. Follow THE PROMPT!
This Prof. is terrible. He shows no effort in responding to students emails. This class is terrible. This course is designed to make students think and express their beliefs in politics, but instead you must agree with the readings and articles he provides. As a result, I withdrew from the class and re-enrolled in a in-person class instead.
Excellent teacher, very responsive and well-organized. Just finished his class and earned an "A" grade.
I know many people have said he is not a great professor. I just took his class and it is not bad. He has two discussions (you MUST write a lot with understanding the material in order to get a better grade). Two exams: midterm and final. The questions are actually in the lessons so get copies of them and read the material.
Best online class ever!
Very interesting and learned a lot.
Finished this class in June '20 after it was recommended by another student. Very well-paced schedule, so good match with my work hours. Don't procrastinate and it will be smooth. Midterm and final were easy to prepare for by using his study questions. Really increased my understanding of politics and current events.
Great teacher gives good instruction on what is gonna be on the quiz, midterm and final.
I had prof. Dawson for 8 weeks and I thought the pace at which the class moved along was great. He has great communication and always available to help. You must be self disciplined to keep up with the reading. He provides great study guides and intersting NP articles. Extra credit is a plus. I would take him again, he is honest and straight fwrd
No zoom meetings. Every week you do the reading and take a quiz. Weekly quizzes have 2 attempts. There are 3 big discussions and a midterm and final. If you do all the assignments and readings on time you will get an A. Post interesting articles.
Very good professor. Extremely knowledgeable and provides a clear grading criteria as well as extra credit and interesting articles. Very well-paced course as well. Would definitely take this course again!
greaatttt professor. super nice and caring. took him for an 8 week course and it was very very well paced. not much to do. small quizzes every week that boost your grade and you have many extra credit points available. make sure to make use of those. take him for sure! great class
Professor Dawson gives clear direction. Follow it, particularly for class discussions. He does manage to make the subject matter interesting through lectures, and he's very accessible to students. I learned a lot, and earned a good grade by just showing up, reading, following directions and asking questions. He's a good professor.
His curriculum is designed to outsmart students with intentionally tricky questions. Your grade is based on short, heavily weighted quizzes and one essay. He grades the essay hard, especially if he doesn't agree with you. If you want to learn or care about your grade, skip Jim.
Hard pass, im taking his class online and its horrible. every week there was a news log and weekly unit readings, on top of those weekly readings are additional articles + videos that ranged from 30-1 hour long and get quizzed on them. If you have plenty of time in your hands take it, but otherwise, his class is veryyy tedious and unexciting.
Very unreasonable. His quizzes have oddly specific questions about some obscure detail from on of the readings. You have to do essays but he hardly even gives time to do them bc he keeps all the assignments locked. His syllabus + written correspondence read like a warning. I doubt this prof cares about his students or leaving a meaningful impact.
Professor Dawson runs a challenging course, but the lectures are engaging. To succeed, stay on top of the readings, utilize tools like Unstuckstudy for study prep, and participate in discussions. Overall, a worthwhile experience.
Worst prof I've ever had. He gives you HEAPS of articles, daily news logs, youtube lectures, and more. In his class, you are only graded on quizzes, a midterm, and final. There is NO study guide to use for any of these despite their focus being on numerous different readings and sources. He has this class formatted terribly, avoid at all costs.
