He doesn't lecture, the only materials you have are the textbook. He is not very well respected among students, mainly because he is condescending and rude toward them. If there is another professor teaching this, I recommend you take that.

I took his class online. Ive heard hes a nice guy, but as a professor, hes horrible. He doesnt teach, everything tested is from the book and quizzes are difficult. The worst part was that he promised a final grade curve, then claimed he couldnt do it because the grade average was an 85. One of the worst professors Ive had. Would not recommend

Only two exams and then quizzes online and a few discussion boards, which are fine, but all semester was told there would be a curve at the end, and there was even an area in canvas for a curve. Then, after a final was told that there will be no curve, nevermind. So frustrating. Save your efforts for a professor that actually follows through.

One of the worst professors I have had at FSU. This was an online course so I expected to do a lot of studying on my own, however he does not teach ANYTHING. You read the book, then take a weekly quiz. If you do poorly on the quiz you are unable to see correct answers at any point. Curve was promised - but he didnt follow through on his word.

If you can avoid it DO NOT TAKE DEVER. He has lectures and powerpoints, but do not waste your time looking at these. about 95% of the time doing work for this class should be memorizing every word in the textbook. I read the chapters 3 times and took detailed notes, yet didn't get above an 80% on an exam. He does nothing to prepare students to pass

I've taken my fair share of hard classes & this prof made this class more difficult than it needs to be. They nitpick anything they can to ensure you don't get a 10/10 on your discussion boards. The exams are obnoxiously detailed & hard. There is no helpful material for exams besides your textbook and even that doesn't help you do well on the exams

Avoid taking online with Dever at all costs. The only instructions are to read the textbook and to look over the powerpoints that Dever does not even make himself. It is extremely difficult to prepare for an exam when there is no way of knowing what he is expecting you to study. The class would not be as difficult if there was proper instructions.

Most annoying class I have taken at FSU. No reason why this class is harder than my accounting classes. Tests have no resemblance to HW quizes. The DB are graded so harshly. I was Studying for Exam 3 and checked my grades and he retroactively lowered my exam 1 score. Who does that? Literally this class is insane but FSU makes us take it.

Try to avoid this professor!!! His exams were so incredibly specific that it was impossible to get a decent grade on one no matter how many hours I spent reading and studying the extremely long chapters. I followed his exact instructions on each discussion board and yet couldn't get anything above a 9/10 on any of them. Super hard class!!!

He takes attendance every day. His first two tests are impossible to study for because he is so specific on the exams. He always was extremely vague about group project work, at one point he even gave us wrong information entirely and still graded us on the original rubric. Do not take him for MAR4480!! Also very rude in emails.

The least helpful professor for succeeding. Quiz due every Sunday, few discussion boards based on the chapter you spent 3-5 hours reading. He will then give you a 15 or 20 minute lecture on that chapter with a broad PowerPoint. Wont let you see correct answers on quizzes, and test questions are random, couldnt get above an 80 on the 60 qstn exams

This prof. doesn't care about this class. No video lectures, poor communication, obviously doesn't write 99% of his own test questions. Discussion boards are essentially essays and are graded very harshly, never got a 10/10. Advertised a curve the entire semester, then 2 days before finals said there wasn't one. Avoid him if you're paying to learn.

I don't even understand why he is a professor, he finds his students bothersome and could care less to have any involvement in their education. This could be such an amazing & beneficial class, but he absolutely destroyed it. The fact that this is our 'Senior Capstone Course' is beyond disappointing and laughable. Good luck.

Worst professor i have in my 3 years here at FSU. He is extremely inconsistent and is constantly changing his grading policies and syllabus. This made it extremely hard to navigate the online class. In addition, he was extremely rude when I emailed him asking for any clarifications.

does not care about students or their grades. reached out for help after feeling fully prepared for an exam but bombed it and he responded with telling me to go to ACE :) horrible class that killed my GPA. avoid at all costs

Dever is by far the worst professor I've had (& I'm a senior). I reached out to him for help & he was very rude. He's a tough grader who nitpicks every assignment & his comments on assignments don't help you better understand how to improve your work, but instead they're sarcastic & demeaning. Very unprofessional- horrible way to speak to students.

Dr. Devers will NOT work with you if you need any accommodations or anything pops up. His late policy is unforgiving for computer complications/other valid excuses even with proof it was completed on time. His emails are very condescending and mean. In order to learn anything or get any decent grades you must read the book. No redeeming qualities.

probably the most uninspiring prof i had at fsu. he has many TA's that basically run the class and grade everything. Lectures are irrelevant, the class is made up of scanning textbook to write weekly chapter summaries which make up a sizable portion of your grade along with discussion board posts. final is ridiculously worded- most lit got Ds & Fs

Wow, previous reviews say it all. Professor has little if any involvement in anything students do, assigned writings are pointless. The final exam questions are nearly impossible to read and make almost no sense, and there is no study guide and therefore no good way to prepare for it. My guess is this guy is a tenured professor collecting a check.

You know you have a problem when all the reviews mention not only how hard your class is, but how terribly uninspiring you are as a professor. There many 500+ word DB posts that are auto-graded based off a curiosity score which does not measure your knowledge of the topic. Exam wording is gibberish. Rly hope he sees this and does better for FSU.

One of the worst classes I have ever taken. A shame that a great school such as FSU has teachers like prof. Dever that clearly only teach so they can get a paycheck. His final was ridiculous and he did not provide any insight on what to study other than read all 13 chapters of the textbook.

a ridiculous amount of stupid busywork that teaches you nothing except how to summarize an article. also insanely hard graders for a simple discussion board. most biz majors NEED to take this course, but please please for the love of god take a diff professor. also the TA Andrea is too hard of a grader.

This is one of work classes I have taken, and this is my last semester. If you can please avoid taking it with him. All he does is make you write 500 word summery every week. Test are hard for no reason. Whenever there is a test he will still make you write that summary. His feedback are useless and he is very demanding.

I'm not sure Dever even exists. Weekly discussions were on this awful platform called Payback, in which an VI grades what we write. I don't think a live human looked at a single piece of work I did the entire semester. I learned nothing this entire course, and James Dever is the worst teacher I've had in my entire life, by a wide margin.

Unequivocally the worst professor I have ever had. It is not even close. He outsourced the entire class to a third-party service, showed absolutely zero effort as a professor, and concludes the class with a nonsense, typo-filled, 75-question exam. I admire his audacity in assigning this type of exam since he did not teach a thing.

Lectures are lazily put together, you have a discussion board post that is graded by AI that takes a couple of hours each week, and a final that's 30% of your grade on who knows what.

You have to do a packback each week graded by AI which can then be moderated by a real person and can lower your score making you have to redo things all over again. You have to also add pictures to your post and things which are truly no help or add to your education. Only took with him because I had no option in order to graduate in summer.

All I can say is I wish I had this guys job. He gets paid to "teach" when in reality, all of his assignments are graded by AI or come from the textbook company. He did not do a single thing this entire course with the exception of sending an announcement. He also gives a 75 question proctored final that also requires zero effort on his part.

Professor Dever is doing a disservice to his students and the College of Business by using PackBack. His lecture videos do not show him using a PowerPoint at all. His single-chapter video is 15-20 minutes long and does not go into depth at all regarding the material being taught.

Overall just such a rude professor. Grades so harshly and is so disrespectful in emails. 500-word, three-part assignment due every week. Huge final worth the bulk of your grade with zero preparation for it. Doesn't offer extra credit or much assistance out of class. Second time having this professor and 0/10 would recommend it.

Had to pay for packback which was easy enough to score 100s on each week as well as a 20 question quiz on each chapter. The work was tedious but not hard, but the final exam was brutal. No study guide and no guidance from the professor other than saying anything in the textbook is fair game, which was 11 chapters and 300+ pages of information.

This professor is an extremely difficult person. He is not understanding in any way. He is arguably the worst professor in the COB. He gives the most useless assignments and is ready to write 500 words a week of made-up paragraphs trying to relate to the topics in this class. The other professors are angels. Please avoid him at all costs.

Professor Dever is the worst professor I've had, by far. He did not put any effort into teaching throughout the semester as he outsourced the whole class to Packback. Assignments were graded on AI, with no resources besides the textbook to study. He is not accessible outside class or willing to work with you at all. Avoid him at all costs.

This course was my last requirement before graduation and yet he was the only teacher left. You get assigned a company for a weekly pack-back assignment that AI grades. Yes, there is only one exam, the final, however, it is cumulative with no study guide. His announcements are always rude and says he will not respond to your emails.

You have a 500 word paper due each week with a quiz, and respond to two peers in 100 words and make another post in 100 words. He is VERY insensitive. You only have one exam and that the final. If you do all your homework on time it should be an easy A but he doesn't teach, he reads off Pearson PowerPoints, & hope you never have a family emergency.

The class consists of weekly 500-word essays where he essentially asks the same exact question just slightly different each time and is graded by an AI. There are also like no lecture videos only 5-minute chapter review videos. The final is 30% and he gives no instructions or guidance. avoid.

When i say this guy could've never existed I'm serious. His lectures are all pre recorded from like 2015, and everything is graded through AI. He made no announcements, no involvement, no comments and you can't prepare for the 30% final. I don't even pay for tuition and feel like I got robbed.

James Dever is by far the worst professor I have had at FSU. He does not teach, he will tell you to read the textbook, and that is the extent of his effort in this class. He uses recycled videos and does not care about helping his students learn. I truly believe he should be removed as a professor; he reflects poorly on the university overall.

Stay away. Every week, you will write over 700 words answering questions that are essentially the same but rewritten. The final exam is worth 30% of your grade. It is filled with spelling mistakes, grammar errors, and repeat questions. When I alerted him about this, I was told that I was a rude person. Avoid this class like Tally flu.

I gotta give props to professor Dever because he has scammed FSU and its students. This class is a joke and so are his teaching ways (if you even consider it teaching). I never once watched one of his lectures that he has reused since 2016. Just do the busy work (quiz and Discussion post) and then you can bomb the finale and still make a B.

This class is h3ll lol. The class is structured around weekly packback discussions and quizzes. The packback discussions have an unnecessarily large word count and are graded with AI. I haven't taken the final yet, but this class is pure busy work and a waste of time.

One of the worst and most useless classes I've taken. Almost the entire class is online discussion boards that are AI graded. You end up writing about 900 words a week and the professor or TA doesn't even look at your work. Dever is rude and inaccessible via email. This class is a scam, but you have to take it to graduate.

The weekly quizzes are true/false only with ridiculously tough questions and grammatical errors galore. The pack-back is a waste of time (1000 words/week) and AI graded. His exams are insanely detailed. Be prepared to teach yourself!

This class isn't very difficult but the teacher seems to be so unbelievably lazy. Every week there is one quiz and one “packback” assignment which is basically graded on a word count. The quiz will often have questions that are illegible and make no sense which leads to taking a blind guess. Overall, this professor isn't hard just very very lazy.

What should be a fairly easy subject is made awful by a long textbook and an awful teacher. Incredibly lazy (uses AI graded busywork) and the bulk of your grade is quizzes and exams. You can't go back to questions after going to the next and often the answers and concepts in general are barely distinguishable from each other and vague.

Bad teacher and bad human being. I had a personal situation that prevented me from completing two assignments by their due dates. All my other professors were extremely understanding and accommodating except Professor Dever. He was not understanding and his emails to me was aggressive and demeaning. School can't touch him because he is tenured.

Do not take this professor. Weekly papers on textbook chapters, a huge final paper, and 3 really hard exams that are impossible to get an A. Attendance is graded but class is a huge waste of time because he goes on random tangents about his personal life and nothing he talks about is helpful for the exams. He should not be a professor

He is an absolute horrible teacher who doesn't teach. I have learned nothing in his class and he might claim that his reviews on here don't reflect his teaching but don't listen. He isn't a teacher and just assigns work with no purpose. I only had to take his class as a requirement and Do NOT take this class if you can avoid it.

The textbook is essentially the entire class and very hard to follow—full of dense, academic language that makes otherwise simple topics very confusing. The lectures don't cover enough to prepare you for exams. You must teach yourself the material; relying only on lectures will make passing extremely difficult, perhaps impossible.
