He is such a jolly kind of a person. He provides you with the review paper before the test and guess what? while going through the chapters he asks you to underline the stuff that will be on the exam. Very very helpful and understanding professor.

He is a great teacher, he is funny and he likes to help out the student as much as possible. The review sheets he gives are very helpful, and he is just an all around good guy.

This teacher is very innovative and inspiring. He is also very funny. I actually looked forward to going to his class! I also learned a lot from his class! His tests are reasonable, cause he lets you know exactly what to study out of a 4-chapter test.

He takes a little getting used to but he's pretty good teacher Go to office for questions - in class he can be a little testy if you seem to question his knowledge or theories(happened to me) but most profs do Really nice guy otherwise Just look up things on review sheets and tests are okay enjoyed

He's very unique in his teaching style and makes the class enjoyable with is wit and humor. Can sometimes get off topic which takes getting used to-so you know when to takes notes and when not to. Very entertaining and helpful in his office hours. Tests are ok-use the study sheet provided!

Tests are very easy if you follow the review sheets.

Excellent teacher. Tests are from the lecture and reading. If you get what you put into the class. If you don't read the book you will fail. Very funny guy and innovative in his teaching.

This teacher is very happy all the time. His tests are easy with only a few difficult questions. If the vocab. is understood then an all multiple Choice question test is easy and with every test a few answers are always given. A very nice Blow off class to fill a pre-requiste.

AWESOME! Divney is a one man show! Funny, informative, and entertaining.. Easy tests if you study. No other homework or quizes. Fun lectures and you leave actually retaining some information. Loved his class and would recommend him for any class. Can't wait to take the next one.

DR Divney is my favorite Professor... He makes learning entertaining, and he makes sure you understand what he teaches. I learned so much from his class.

Very funny guy. He had me laughing from day 1. the only problem i had with him was he seemed to be a little scattered, and he promised me one grade and didn't follow through which did make me mad, but otherwise i would totally suggest him.

Divney is an incredible teacher. He tries to make dry jokes in class, but everyone likes when he sings Pink Floyd. Divney knows the material in and out and relates sociology to your everyday life to help you understand. Easy A if you read the material.

Wow. This guy loves to make jokes and his lectures are interesting. The only problem are his tests. These are the only points you get in the class and the questions are confusing! If you don't think exactly like he does, you have a problem. Interesting class, but the tests are rediculous.

interesting teacher. very sarcastic about life and everything else. jokes a lot, but most of the time i didn't get his jokes. i thought the class was rather easy and not too boring. you do need to study for tests (4, the 5th is opryional): notes and book. had to write an easy paper based on book reading assignment. he's ok.

Very great teacher. Very helpful. Heard it was going to be hard but just do the reading assignment and you will be fine. Gives a great study guide and tests aresn't that bad. Gives a big extra credit assignment to.

If you go into this class with an open attitude for someone who is a little different you will have a lot of fun. i loved this class, i think he makes it fun. he is quite ecentric but that is what makes him awesome. i want to have fun in a class and learn, not sit there bored and not care if i don't go, and he makes it possible to have fun.

he is one of the best professors i have taken a class with. this was my 2nd class.he has interest in his students. i took marriage and the family a tv class. he was extremely understanding since it was a self paced.he was always available if needed further explanations. i would recommend you take the class from him and read your text book please.

Dr. Jim rules! His class was so interesting, I signed up for a different one the following semester. He is by far my favorite professor. He's got great, dry humor and he makes the subjects easy to relate to and interesting. He practically gives test answers to those that show up to class. I HIGHLY recommend him!

I took several classes Dr. Divney taught. He is my favourite Professor at JCCC. If you goto class ask questions and read the book take the tests and understand the material he works with your grades.

He is definately an interesting teacher. If you want to pass this class, there is no getting past reading the book. If you read the assigned chapters, and attend the lecture guaranteed passing grade. *helpful hint* Whatever you do, don't use your phone in his class!

Dr. Jim is by far one of the best professors I have had. His lectures are very interesting and I got a lot out of this course. If you want a good grade, go to the lectures and do the reading. It's really that simple. He has four exams. The final is optional and your lowest score is dropped. He is very laid back & very accommodating.

I'm surprised and even shocked by most of these comments - and ratings. Dr. Divney was highly helpful, and is a teacher I will not soon forget. As long as you go to class, take thorough notes, study the review sheets given, and pay attention, you should be more than fine. Get it together people.

Attendance is not mandatory, but I never missed one of his classes! He really makes a funny approach to the study of society. There are four exams to take, he gives you a review sheet of what's going to be on each test, and the final exam is optional. Thanks to his class, I developed a high interest in sociology. I'd definitely recommend him!

Great teacher. Gets a little off track at times but he keeps your interest with his eccentric personality and performances. Read the book and study the material and you will get an A

Very funny teacher. only 4 tests. last one he lets you use your notes. 1 make up test too. Go to his class, DO THE STUDY GUIDES, and get an easy A. he gets off track, but it's who he is.

i would recommend everyone who wanna understand anthropology to take this professor you will understand almost everything and what he tells you to do is what he brings for test and he is also funny extremely great profesor

Unusual, quirky, eccentric and funny, this is the only professor that I know that does voices and tells jokes. Some people are agitated by his personality and teaching style, but in all seriousness, the guy knows his stuff. He teaches criminology, sociology, and anthropology. No homework but reading, and 4 tests including an optional exam. Easy!

He was a FANTASTIC professor.He is so hilarious. If you want to wake up and actually want to go listen to a lecture take his course! He's so fun and really wants his students to do well. Only reason someone would do poor is if you don't study for his exams. HIS CLASS IS SO EASY. Small amount of studying you can pass. Hes awesome.

Jim is a great guy, he keeps your attention and is clear on what he wants from you. You need to read whatever is assigned. I've been in three of his classes, the only complaint is there is absolutely no class participation. It often feels awkward to even ask questions. Even before or after class. He's got a great perception on how the world works.

5 test including final, will drop 1 so if you have an A no final. Lectures include anecdotes and crude humor to help you remember the material. I definitely used both textbooks. Don't sleep or text in his class, show up everyday and he'll think your a good student. Tests are 40 multiple choice, 10 TF and he gives you the questionanswers for final

had this professor for sociology and criminology. Use the study guides for tests and you will do fine. Tests are combo of lectures and book. Very different sense of humor, but means well. His "off topic" talks are actually related to the material if you pay attention. He is very lenient with attendance and coming in late is fine! Amazing teacher.

Great teacher. I Struggled in this class and was very helpful on helping you understand the material learned in class. Very Long breathed but, He is there to help you. His tests are very hard but there are five total exams and one is an extra to drop your lowest but that is not Mandatory to take the last exam.

I didn't understand about 85% of what he lectured on but as long as I made my 1 page (front and back) notes for my exams, I received a good grade. He gives you a review sheet, you make notes you can use on the test. Difficult to attend every class when you know it doesn't affect your grade and you can use notes for the test. Really nice guy.

Professor Divney is a funny guy, but takes his classes serious. His style is lecture, and expects you to read the text book, as well as any other assigned reading. There is no homework, only exams. There are 4 exams, and 1 final. You can skip the final if you are satisfied by the grades you received the first 4 exams. I would take again!

He is hard to get used to at first, but if you give him a chance you will learn a lot. I struggled at first because his lectures are long, but now he is one of my favorite professors. Just do the reading, take lecture notes, do the exam study guide. He lets you use a full page of notes front and back on the tests. I never missed class got an A.

I found Jim as a good instructor on a difficult topic to instruct. Sociology to me is so open ended but Jim did a great job bringing it together.

He's a super funny guy, and the class isn't hard. He knows what he's talking about and the readings he assigns are actually pretty interesting if you like anthropology. His tests aren't hard, and he even gave my class some points back if he put something on the test that he didn't cover in class. Overall I would highly recommend.

He's an easy teacher. He does get off topic a lot, but if you study the study guide he gives you and write out everything in the study guide, this course should be an easy A for you.
