This guy is a terrible teacher. I leave class more confused than I came in!

He is the worst teacher i have ever had. I just dropped him because he would change my grade on a quiz when the girl next to me had the same answers and she got a higher score than me. hw said well that's to bad. This guys is an idiot and doesn't care about you no matter what you say.

One of the worst teachers I ever took at arc. All he does is take example out of the book and shows it to the class. He is not clear at all and very disorganized. He doesnt treat all the students fairly. He is not understanding and very rude. He also gives too many question on the exams and not enough time. He is a TERRIBLE teacher and not helpfull

Dreadful professor! He makes a lot of mistakes while doing examples on the board. He also teaches straight out of the book. Not clear or helpful when answering student questions. If you're actually trying to learn trig, I'd recommend a different professor. I'm a straight A student & great at math but I can't follow him AT ALL!

Sweats a lot when doing math! doesn't teach or explain anything well and tests are terrible.

Doesn't understand how to break down the problems when asked Qs. Mostly he just kept repeating what he had previously said. He goes way too fast! Imposes a lot of requirements on his tests and often forgets to tell you until he's deducted the posts. Has tested on things in our homework section that he didn't go over in class. I had to teach myself.

Worst math teacher I ever had and I've had some pretty good math teachers in the past but this guy is just terrible at teaching! Class is based off on test and quiz points only! Does not cover everything on tests and NO extra credit!!! Doesn't grade homework. Very strict on electronics. Does not tolerate late people and is very rude!

This teacher is dreadful. I have never encountered a teacher like this one. He doesn't take the time to listen to his students and expects you to already know the material. The reason why we are in class is to learn. I was so eager to take this class. But he has pretty much taken all that away and more. I don't think he should teach at all

THE WORST MATH PROFESSOR EVER! I am literally not exaggerating when I say that. Our class started as a group of approx 35 people..the class ended with around 8 people. THE WORST PROFESSOR! Please do not take his class!! He does not allow you to use calculators on his test and uses the textbook as a primary source. Makes too many mistakes!!

I hate to write a bad review but there's nothing good to say. I'm not good at math so I expect a teacher to help me understand what;s going on, while this professor tells you to figure it out on your own. Wouldn't recommend this professor to anyone.

My interest level in this class was a 1 and at the end it was a negative 10. This teacher was the worst I have ever had in my entire student career. I do not recommend this teacher at all

Awful teacher. Do NOT take his class. He just ASSUMES you understand everything. He picks on people. I missed class twice because I was in a bad car accident and he STILL wanted to kick me from the class. SERIOUSLY? No compassion what so ever for anything. Obviously.. He's an awful person and expects you to give him a great review for his end of the semester survey. I think NOT. Avoid him as best you can!

Mr. Duran was the worst professorteacher I have ever dealt with in my entire academic career! He teaches straight out of the book, he does not give clear directions or study guides to prepare for classes! At first I heard the horror stories, but I needed the credit so I continued with his class. I suggest AVOIDING THIS GUY AT ALL COST! all bad

Mr. Duran was the worst teacher I have ever experienced. Not only was Ineffective, he was not patient, he does not help students and his test questions were harder than the homework questions. We started with about 30 kids in the class and had about 14 by finals. He kept giving us take home tests after the class as a whole would BOMB a test.

This professor is not there for you, he grades tough, doesn't give you study guides, quite possibly the worst teacher I've ever encountered in my academic career. Half the class dropped, and half of who was left failed. If there was any advice it would be to avoid this guy at all cost. rushes through lectures.

If you struggle with math, this professor is not for you. He is very boring, impatient and is very basic in his teaching techniques. professor presents the material in a confused way. Every lecture at college should have a clear structure: an introduction, a main part, and a conclusion. professor's lectures are all over the place and you can't figure out what the main points areor when and why the professor has moved from one point to the next he's awful

If youre sitting in a class you think you should understand but find your head spinning, you might be falling victim to The Bad Explainer. Bad Explainers usually use roundabout methods of explaining the solution to a problem, have disorganized lectures and dont highlight key terms. He would get very upset and bothered over petty things.

this guy isn't there for u, he is an awful professor. you leave lectures more confused than when u came in. He has no solid structure and he gets mad at petty things. Half of the kids in my class dropped, and half he ones that stayed failed. His tests are tough he puts the hardest question in each section to try and trick you.

worst professor I've ever dealt with He's real petty about rules. Doesn't allow for calculator use, not even basic ones. His tests are not based off the homework. I've taken this course twice, i suggest taking with Bredek as she is a good professor. Duran has no structure, no clarity and seems to enjoy tricking students on his tests. he's AWFUL

With out a doubt the worst teacher I have ever experienced in all my years of school. The man has no idea how to explain the most simple concepts and no idea on the roles of a teacher. PLEASE listen to my advice and DO NOT EVER take a class with this man as the professor. I didn't listen to the many people who told me this and man do I regret it.

Do not take this processor, he has personal issues going on to where it affects his teaching style and doesn't care if the students pass or fail. If you go see him during office hours don't bother it will be a waste of your going over to see him is very rude

James is a terrible teacher. So this guy made me retake this course, the whole class struggled with this professor. Take a HIGHLY rated professor like Bredek. A teacher that is organized, sylabus, and actual structure to lesson plans. James was all over the place, he isn't there to help u, just sucks at his job. He gets frustrated at students, when he can't teach effectively.

He's so smart that its hard for him to dumb down his lectures to students that doesn't get his lectures. When people ask for help, he never answers their questions directly but instead confuses them even more. Half of his test question makes you think outside the box, and think outside of what the study guide offers. Horrible teaching style

Duran is very strict. I found him to be very frustrating. He doesn't like confrontation so if you have an issue forget it. Hes disorganized, unhelpful, and disrespectful. Once you take him you'll hate him. Take heed, you have been warned. It was to late for us maybe there is some hope for you RUN!!!!!

He very controlling and intimidating. He cant take confrontation so don't even ask for help also on test days he does a lecture leaving you with a little bit of time to finish it. Don't even waste time asking question for he wouldn't even answer them. He teaches from his head not from the book material.

He doesn't collect homework everything is based on your test so good luck with that. Take heed for theres a reason why he was rated low. He just plain right horrible. I absolutely HATE this man. He is the worst professor out there. He is a disgrace to the college. He is rude and very disrespectful. He didn't even have enough respect to pull me aside to tell me I was failing and that he would have to drop me. Another student was in the same boat as me but he only chose tell me in front of everyone. Downright rude

He was by far the worst professor I've had. The class started with over 20 students and fished with 6. You are better off taking this class online or with someone else or you are more than likely going to repeat it! His lectures consist of the examples from the book an a few of his own but nothing like what he puts on the tests.

Terrible!! I asked him for help because i was failing, i did tutoring once a week along with working with a classmate four hours a week, and going to the math center,told me all he can say is to try my best. his lectures are so boring and very unclear. "This Guy" blocks the board when he writes. Hardly gives partial credit. its all or nothing.

James Duran is a horrendous teacher. he's not effective. clearly everybody struggles with this man. i suggest taking with a clearly more organized teacher. this guy is the worst. his office hours are a joke, he doesn't seem to care for his students. This guy is the worst professor i've ever had in my academic career. He's impatient, rude and does not TEACH. he does problems on a chalkboard and thinks that is adequate. This guy is not organized and hard to understand. He's fast paced when writing on the board and I had a hard time keeping up. He doesn't grade homework and everything is through tests. The tests are hard and he would put questions that we didn't even go over in class just to trick you. BEWARE! If you aren't good at math don't take this class.

He moves quickly through material. He has a bad temper. Don't even think about glancing at your phone in class. He will call you out and make you LEAVE! Yes, leave. No excuses accepted. He slams on the board if he is frustrated with the class. No calculators allowed EVER. Grades on exams only. No extra credit offered. Not approachable. Not nice.

Professor Duran if you ever read this, you're the worst math teacher I have ever had at Sierra college. Please stop teaching or restructure the way you teach please theres no you can say you're a good teacher. Yes, you do know math very well, but that doesn't mean you're good at teaching it. This professor is hard to connect with on any level. He will not spend more time on any topic even if the entire class doesn't understand the material. He blames people for not being able to understand the material basically saying we have not studied however that's all I did for this class was study. Unless you already get math don't take him

His reviews for Math25 (basic mathematics, nothing challenging) seem to favor him quite a bit. But DO NOT take this guy for Math100 or above. He constantly goes over the allotted class time due to poor time management. Strict with grading; marks down for little errors and doesnt give partial credit. No credit if solutions correct but work isnt

He gives long boring lectures, and they are straight from the book. He doesnt teach. He mumbles when he talks, so its hard to understand him. He doesnt give feedback on tests. Oh, and he is not great with technology. Doesnt respond timely either. Just save yourself and dont take him. Or wait until the next semester to take a better teacher.

Worst and most apathetic professor I have ever had. Math 120 and STATS 300 were both tremendously easier than this course.

Poorly explained formulas and how's they work and their uses. Won't spend the time to explain until it's understood. No use of notes. Also reluctant to give a failing letter grade and would rather give you a withdrawal. As a veteran, the withdrawals hurt more. So veterans DON'T take any of his class!

AWFUL. Does not collect homework, grades are solely based on quizzes and tests. Jumps from chapter to chapter. He does not explain at all and expects you to already know what he is teaching. This is an intro to College Algebra class yet we are using a Pre-Calculus book. He ripped papers from students hands and is very condescending.

Acceptable teaching. Followed his syllabus chapters, making clear the subtopics he was lecturing in class. Pop quizzes. He was unorganized. I know it may be stressful, planning & grading, when students have complications, but trying to work with him while I planned my parent's sudden funeral was like pulling teeth. This professor is one of the worst professors I have taken. He doesn't accept late work even if you have a reasonable excuse for a late turn-in. His lectures are super confusing, most of the time he's mumbling and doesn't care if the students understand the lecture or not. He never has time for his students.

I usually never leave a review on professors, but due to this class, I want other students to understand what they are getting into. Expect lots of test and pop quizzes, there with be a quiz every class. Professor strictly teaches on white board. No online resources, wouldn't answer questions or explain material. Grade depends on quizzes and tests.

This professor is the most unorganized, and shows up late often, sometimes not showing up at all. Do not expect anything good if you take one of his classes.

This professor is not helpful if you are a person who is immunocompromised, or just gets sick or has a life outside this class in general. He doesn't accept any work or help you make up work even if you have a valid excuse or communicate beforehand, didn't stick around to fail his class. Also everything is in paper and old school.

This professor called me by the wrong name all semester despite the fact that I corrected him. My work was returned to me with food spilled on it several times. Lecture was disorganized, and unhelpful. Be ready to spend lots of time outside of class teaching the material to yourself, because lecture is useless.
