He is very vivacious. However, he is a horrible lecturer. He posts his powerpoints online but they are extremely unclear and confusing. He skips around alot in his lecutres and people often get lost. He's very nice and the tests aren't difficult if you know your stuff. Most test questions come from online. Subject is interesting

I love Prof. Dykes! too me he is a great professor, once you figure out how to take notes correctly over his lectures. The class seems relatively simple! As long as your willing to show up, and pay attention, you will learn! SI was helpful, but do read the chapter! plus sit in the first row! makes it better easier to follow!

Although Professor Dykes is extremely funny and the class in general is interesting, he made the class so difficult. His tests are based a lot off lecture notes but his lectures are all over the place. He puts notes online but they're so brief that it's pointless to try and study afterwards. For me, it was an impossible A, hard B, and easy C.

I find him to be a wonderful professor. He gives you many opportunities to make good grades. Honestly, buy the book and do the reading and go to class. However, don't follow whats on the powerpoint takes notes off of the things he says. The class is an easy A with average amount of effort.

I enjoyed Dr. Dykes' class. Great personality and a very interesting topic, but his lectures are fast-paced so read the chapters beforehand or you'll have trouble understanding the lectures. Iclicker quizzes and big exam curves will help your grade. Be aware, 3rd exam and comp final are on the same day, but he gives you exam hints. I recommend him.

Professor Dykes is okay to take. His lectures are boring and are the most questions on his midterms. He does iClickers which are helpful in bringing up your grade. They are prelecture quizzes from online which he gives unlimited attempts as well as homework. He drops the lowest exam. No need to buy book. All lecture and online quizzes.

Professor Dykes is a great professor! Attendence is not mandatory; take good lecture notes because a big portion of the tests are based on lecture notes. He makes class very interesting. You only use the textbook for personal use, never any required reading. I came in thinking it was a hard class and now I'm minoring in it. Take Dykes, he's awesome!

His class is HARD. But he is the most interesting and passionate teacher you will take. If you want to truly learn, take him. If you want an easy class, don't. Print out the power points before class and take detailed notes on them. Very helpful if you are confused

Dykes is HILARIOUS! His lecture was interesting & easily held my attention. Not a hard class considering I missed lect(& iClickers)a decent # of times. DO THE MASTERY QUIZZES, they help A LOT! Most test Qs can be likened to them. Lecture will help, but not vital. Also lecture helps with his trad PP notes, they are vague if you don't know the chap b4

He is without a doubt the most confusing professor I have ever taken. He is scatterbrained in his lectures, he gets side-tracked easily, and his delivery of the course material is unclear at best. Asking questions won't help; his answers are just as unclear as his lectures. The only upside to his class is that he puts massive curves on his exams.

If you attend class, pay attention, take good notes, and study the online ppts you should at least pass the class. This professor's lectures are sometimes scattered, but some test questions come directly from lecture. Lots of easy side assignments. For tests, MAKE SURE to memorize Mastery Quiz questions and answers. Those saved me on tests!

Prof. Dykes was an amazing professor! He was always so prepared to teach and really made class enjoyable each time. He made the information easy to understand with jokes and funny stories. Always told us about upcoming quizzes and gave up plenty of opportunities to make the best grade possible in the course for each assignment given.

Really funny guy. His lectures are sometimes all over the place and the slides are hard to understand if you don't attend class. He gives small curves on the tests. The only negative thing is that he snorts sometimes which can bother some people. I would highly recommend taking his class! He definitely cares about his students and helps with grades

His class is pretty easy. Do the quizzes and show up for class. His tests are straight from the lectures so take good lecture notes. Studying is a must though to get an A. His lectures can be a bit confusing because he jumps around a lot on his power points but overall great professor! I would take him again!

If you are greek, an athlete or very lazy do not take. It is not an easy A. You have to attend every class because he tests on lecture and his opinions not over what is in the book. iClicker points are a big part of your grade. Very confusing in lecture and jumps around a lot. He made me hate psych. It wasn't dreadful but I wouldn't take again.

He is a very nice guy and is passionate about Cognition & Language. BUT - he is also too smart in those specific subjects to dumb it down for students to learn. He is vary fair in grading and has a curve but the material is a lot for this particular subject and he is confusing on it. I would take him for something else but not for Cognition class

Dykes or "Jim" is an alright professor. All you need for his class is the power points he posts on BB. Take the printouts to class, take some notes on his lecture, and study them before exams and you should be fine. Read the chapters if you need extra help. He has iclicker quizzes before the start of every chapter so read the power points.

He's SO scattered, his power points aren't in the order that he lectures in which makes taking notes sort of difficult. His tests are basically based off of his lectures, so you HAVE to be in class. Lots of points are free points though, so even if you don't do too good on your tests your grade will be fine.

His class was one of my most challenging and you MUST go to class in order to pass. He just makes you work for your grade. Would take again

I took sensation and perception back in 2014, and I do not remember his lectures being as difficult as other reviewers have mentioned. If you go to class, do the required readings along with the text, this class is not only easy but it is also very captivating. Definitely one of my favorites!
