Professor Early is an ivy-league quality professor- my favorite at this school by far. He explains History in a way that is genuinely interesting and easy to understand. The semester is simple; he only assigns 2 papers, reviews before tests, & provides extra credit opportunities. If there is an open spot in one of his classes, I suggest you grab it
test are based on reviews that he hands out and not that difficult, 2 papers due, not a hard teacher and would take him again, but he isn't teaching the only day I can take the 2nd part of the class.
Tells his lectures like they're stories. He is amazing to listen to. He grades papers hard but it helps your writing skills.
Mr. Early is a good teacher i loved to listen to his lectures. But BEWARE even if his lectures are amazing the outcome of exams have been deceiving; doubt the smartest person in class. The average grade for the whole class was a 71... wow!! There is 2 essays just to tell u how he is a though grader... he is worse than an english teacher. Expect a C
If you want a professor who loves what he teaches, helps you and is reasonable. This is the professor for you.
One of the best professors I've had. Assigns essays but they are worth it. His lectures are interesting and you can't say that about many history professors.
He is willing to help if you ask. Professor Early covers everything that is on the test, and gives you a review guide of what will be on it. In this class there is some reading criteria, but nothing major.
I was actually able to remember the things we went over in class, because he didn't make our lectures boring and give us unnecessary and extra work, rather he made the lecture as specific as possible and he went over the reviews before the test. This was the easiest class History class I have ever taken.
By far the best professor anyone could ever have. There's reading (of course), and lectures, but they're very interesting which is not something you could say about many other professors. He is extremely funny, and loves what he does. This class is not hard, but it can challenge you. Just remember two things. Pay attention and laugh at his jokes.
Professor Early is a great professor. He made the class very interesting. The assignments were very clear and they were not hard. As long as you take notes and don't miss class you should do good.
What an amazing professor! He is very passionate about history and it shows throughout every one of his lectures. The reviews are exactly like the tests, you really can't fail. To make it even better, he even offers easy extra credit! He was an outstanding professor (with awesome jokes) and I wish I could take him for every class here (:
I took Professor Early's class both for 1301 and 1302, and his lectures are amazing. His reviews are the best, because he gives everything that will be on the test and on top of that he gives you lecture notes for you to print out. Make sure to not do your papers last minute, because he cracks down on poor writing and will give his criticism.
He is really passionate about the subject and cares for his students. You will learn the subject, and it's because his teaching methods keep you intrigued. He grades his paper like an English teacher, but he will help you and it overall helps you become a better writer. He's an amazing teacher.
Prof. Early is very knowledgeable & passionate about Amer Hist. His lectures are on BlckBrd, print them out and bring them with you to class. Get ready to read and write two papers. Be SURE you know the specific criteria required for the papers. Finish your draft(s) in time and he will proofread and help you correct mistakes. Great Prof! My fave!
Mr. Early dramatically improved my writing ability and understanding of history throughout the semester. In terms of difficulty, the class was extremely easy as you payed attention in class and studied test reviews. He also was extremely passionate towards history, and shared lots of fun facts to make it more interesting.
If you see a spot open in his class- GRAB IT! He's my favorite Professor at San Jac, and I wish I could take him again. Growing up it was always "in one ear and out the other" when it came to History, but listening to him made me realize how interesting it really is. He is fantastic at his job because he is passionate and sincere. I'll miss him!
He provides a fun and secure learning enviroment that really motivates you to do your best.
Prof Early teaches history like a story and makes it interesting. He posted lectures and notes online. Extra credit was available as well (movie reviews). Grades were online quizzes and in class test along with a paper (no other work). The tests were like the reviews, and the short essay questions were on the review and covered in the notes.
Awesome professor! Provides lecture notes, recorded lectures and detailed study guide on the Blackboard which he sticks to! No tricks! Offers extra credit assignment for the course as well as extra credit questions on the exams. Grades assignments in timely manner! He is very passionate about history which keeps his class fun and interesting!
Just finished the semester, loved the class. He goes into very strong detail on topics and is willing to make examples or have open discussion about topics if needed. Also cracks the occasional joke or bit of sarcasm to not keep lectures too dull. Not much homework at all. Overall great guy and great teacher.
He is well organized, very professional with his criteria. Gives out extra credit assignments and mini one in ones with tou if you may need help in his class. I also have a andrew jackson book for his 1301 if anyones interested
Great professor best one so far. His attendance is mandatory if you miss more than three classes you will fail. Gives a lot of extra credit and responds to emails quick. you will have two essays he is pretty strict but will help you fix your writing. Test are directly from lectures, he gives notes that help a lot. Taking him for spring semester.
Professor Early truly wants the best for all his students. The reviews he gives for test are super helpful. He improved my writing skills and made me more interested in history!
Professor Early is truly something special. He is passionate about the subject , which make his lectures interesting rather than boring. This class is not an easy A. You MUST put in the effort to do well. However his test are straight from the reviews and he offers a great deal of extra credit. Show up, don't be late, and participate!
Professor Early is extremely passionate about his course, he keeps the lectures light and funny but you need to do your part and be prepared. Make sure to get the materials needed and print out all lectures; the exams are lecture based his reviews give you the main topics to study. That means there should be no reason you shouldn't pass.
Professor Early is an amazing instructor. He is very passionate about history so his lectures are always so good. Had two papers to write and he pretty much tells you what to write. One thing though he is a tough grader when it comes to his papers, he is very specific on what he wants. His test are easy as long as you do the study guides.
Take his class. Made class extremely easy. Best decision i made for history. He makes history like a story you would love to hear. Exam reviews are exactly like the test. He doesnt trick you. Gives extra credit by watching movies. You have to try hard to fail the class. 2 papers 4 exams, lowest dropped. easy A if you try.
Mr. Early is one of the most funniest professor I've had. He teaches very well and gives a lot of detail with each lecture. Beware though, if you do not study enough, his exams will take a toll on you. Also, make sure to start on the essays he has super early! Overall, I liked the class.
He is a great professor. He makes hist more interesting and easy to understand. He gives good feedback on every paper. There are 4 tests and 2 papers. He will drop the lowest tests. Highly recommend.
Professor Early is an amazing instructor. His lectures are always so good. Had two papers to write but you have to follow carefully the instructions, he is a tough grader when it comes to his papers, he is very specific on what he wants. His test are the same as the test review. Also he gives you some extra points just watching movies.
Easy A if you listen to his lectures! They are actually very intresting once you start a video. Discussion boards every week but are super easy and short.
GREAT Professor! Passionate about history and his lectures are always very interesting! Gives extra credit, sticks to his syllabus, no tricks! Exams are just like the reviews. 2 papers and 4 exams. Tough grader but offers plenty of help before submitting papers. I took him for HIST 1301 and 1302 - BEST DECISION!
Professor Early was very understanding with my situation. Although it was my own fault that I missed two discussion board, he allowed me to fix my grade and allow it to be passing. He has a lot of discussion boards that are kind of hard so be careful and on top of your assignments.
Lectures tend to be a bit long winded, but he makes them pretty interesting. He's always upbeat and ready to teach well. Be ready to watch a fair amount of videos during class, and learn about all the presidents' different types of facial hair.
I was fortunate to have Professor Early for 1301 and 1302. I wish I could have him again! He is amazing at what he does and to say he is passionate about history is an understatement. He is eager to teach his students about it and even got me interested in what he was teaching. I genuinely liked his class and learned a lot. Very easy too!
The professor has jokes which lightens up the mood. He's pretty good with historical figure impressions and he has a useful list of movies related to history. With his 3 week minimester, we had one essay, three exams, and one final. One exam is dropped, out of the three.
Awesome professor will work with students in order to have a better understanding not intimidating. Grades hard on papers but he just wants students to become better writers and he will give a lot of corrections but allows students to correct them afterwards to improve grade on paper.
I took Mr. Early's class for a summer mini and I highly recommend him. His lectures are interesting, the test are easy if you study the study guide, and his essays are very specific and clear. He cares for his students and will help you if you need it.
It was great joy and an honor to be a part of this class. Mr. Early made the class so interesting. His passion for history stands out. He care about his students. He is very understanding and approachable. There is a lot to cover. He gave his students every opportunity he could to obtain a passing grade. But you have to do the work.
Professor Early is hands down one of the best professor that San Jac has. His very passionate about history, knowledgeable, and cares for his students. He provides reviews for all his test and makes class interesting. He's a tough grader so STUDY and you will pass.
He makes it easy by giving really good resources on what you need to study/read. Hes also funny, and descriptive during lectures.
I really enjoyed this class. You could tell he really enjoyed what he was teaching, which made class enjoyable.
He gives amazing lectures and gives you the answer to the test for you to study in advice. You will have to read a novel about a president, he will give you feedback and help you fix it. I would take him again because he is amazing professor and helps you when you need it.
He is supper chill and pretty funny (90% of his jokes are about beards). Never touched the text book and i did great plus the test have reviews that are supper specific. Hes cool, i would take again.
Professor Early is a great teacher! When writing a paper, he provides many revisions that you can make to your paper before its due and often will speak to you before/after class if you need help. As long as you follow his instructions on the rubrics you can do well on any assignment.
Mr. Early is an amazing professor, he is so passionate about his job and he shows it when teaching. The class involves a lot of reading but as long as you stay on top of your work there is no reason why you shouldn't pass. I really enjoyed taking his class. He's a jokester, and keeps the class lively. He always replies to emails! Very accessible.
His class is easy if you pay attention and the tests are the same thing as the review if you study.
This professor is GREAT. TAKE HIM, TAKE HIM, TAKE HIM. He knows what he is talking about and you will pass if you show up to class. He is very professional and informative. He gives you film reviews that are easy to do for extra credit. DO THEM! The exams comes straight out of the lectures also! Take him and you wont regret it ok thank you bye
Professor Early is the best professor I have had! He has a real passion for history, which is shown in his interesting, fun/funny, lectures. As long as you show up to class, pay attention and do the little work he asks of you, you are sure to pass his class. He gives you a study guide for each test, so no surprises. I would take him 100 times again
I took 1302 online with Professor Early. Hes super organized on the week to week modules so theyre easy to follow and sends reminders when something is due. Video lectures are always filled with fun facts regarding the topic being discussed. 10/10 would take again.
An absolutely phenomenal professor. He makes the lectures intriguing; they come to life, even. Though he is harsh on grading, Professor Early tells you exactly what is going to be on the tests and papers. Very well organized, and would most defiantly would recommend to another student!!
He Loves his job and you could tell by his lectures. I have had many other teachers in the past and they all had been too textbook so I really enjoyed how he makes the slideshows more of a story line so you can remember things.I normally dislike history but he made it worth while also tough grader on essays.
He cool
If all professors at San Jac were like him, every single student would graduate from San Jac with flying colors. He is passionate about what he teaches and gives amazing lectures. TBH i never really liked history class but he made it seem so interesting, i loved going to class.
I used to hate history, but he made the lectures so interesting! He really cares for his students, and only wants the best for them. He was a little tough on grading papers, but his commentary was so useful. I was able to become a much better writer, which helped a lot with other classes I had.
Mr. Early is a down to earth guy who is by far the coolest professor Ive had! For example on every test you take in his class theres an outline for it readily available on blackboard with every main idea of EACH question, you know what is going to be on the test before hand! Only thing you have to watch out for is strict essay grading.
Gives great lectures and gives good feedback on papers. I really learned a lot about history and how to write. He has funny jokes and talks about beards a lot.
There are no surprises in his class. He clearly explains exactly what he wants his students to do, and he really makes the class easier on the students.
Professor Early is awesome! He gives clear and easy to follow directions for all of his assignments and also supplies lecture notes and lots of helpful materials. I took his online class and it was by far the class I enjoyed the most this semester.
Best professor by far. lectures are amazing and actually insightful. you learn a lot in the class without doing much work. great professor.
I really liked the way he taught, one of the best professors I ever had. The lecatures are actually interesting not boring plus he adds in his jokes and puns. For the test the only thing you have to do is look at the review and study he does not do surprises he tells what is going to be on the exam. Amazing.
I loved Professor Early! I took him online, but I can tell I would have enjoyed him if I attended his class at the school. He is a fair grader as long as you do your assignments you have nothing to worry about. He returns email promptly as I ran into a few technical issues on the blackboard where he needed to reset a test for me.
My wife signed me up in his class by mistake thinking it was online. I am glad I took him. I had a sour view on history professor since I received my first C from McRee. McRee is a horrible professor online but a great person online. Professor James Early is the best! Online and in person. He truly cares and reviewed my papers in advance! Easy A.
Professor Earlys lectures are very engaging and entertaining to listen to. Earlys essays have easy guidelines to follow, and his feedback is beneficial in writing better papers. He is also an approachable person, and understands that life gets in the way.
Mr. Early is hands down one of the best teachers i have ever had. Lectures are great. Loves a good bad accent while teaching. There is one major paper and he lays out exactly what he wants with the instructions down to the sentence. Very entertaining and qualified. Enjoys his work and you can tell. Loves student engagement and encourages it. 10/10.
Took Professor Early for HIST 1301 and when he mentioned he was also teaching 1302 I signed up right away in class! His lectures are great, he will mention what will be on tests/study guide, gives essay guidelines, he is fair and answers any questions. Enjoyed his jokes/puns. His enthusiasm for history, made me want to have the same enthusiasm!
Professor Early is easily the best professor Ive had. He assigns a historical debate paper, and the research that I did for it was honestly useful outside of that class. He is very clear in his grading (he even gave us a checklist for the papers). Also, his lectures were actually enjoyable. Thats rare for history profs.
Mr. Early is an amazing teacher. His lectures are very interesting. He gives you study guides for every test which help ALOT. He also gives helpful feedback on signature assignment. The textbook we read for quizzes is not long at all and they honestly help you understand the material even more. You can tell he loves his job, and he is great at it!
Professor Early took a class in a subject I'm not good at and made it easy for me to understand. His lectures were great and he likes to make jokes to ease the boredom that History can bring. He tells you what is expected of you and makes things easy to access; if you do what he says and tell him when you need help, you'll pass with flying colors
This is a great class to take because you will learn from his lectures. His exams are easy and straight off the review. The DBs have to be long and informative. His paper is graded tough so prepare yourself. If you take his class in person he teaches like if we are high school students. Overall, do the work that same day.
Mr. Early is a very good history teacher, and is very knowledgeable about his subject. There are a few papers in the year, but they are very useful to the exams that you take in his class. He makes the lectures fun and enjoyable to listen to. I hope I get to have him for 1302 next semester!
Mr. Early was a fantastic professor. He discussed the content in depth, and ensured that he covered all the content for each test. He also makes U.S. history a fun and engaging experience, even through an online class.
His passion comes through in his speech, he relays interesting stories that grab attention and keep it. His class was engaging, unbiased and interesting; I know that him being the professor made the difference! Grading is clear cut, instructions and feedback very clear, prompt responder and grader. High recommend him! You might love history!
This is the professor that you want for history! We all know that History isn't our favorite subject but he makes you enjoy it. I took this class as a 12 week course and I never felt overwhelmed with the work. 10/10, Professor Early is the GOAT.
Where do I start... professor Early is probably the best professor I have had my whole time doing dual credit. His lectures are GREAT he keeps you engaged, and is always so flexible. I cannot thank professor Early enough. He believed in me so much throughout the whole entire semester. Yall should definitely go check out his podcast! Thank you!!!!
Great professor. Everything is nice and organized. Lecture videos every week with a Discussion Board. Easy class online. Would take history again with him.
Great Professor, enjoyed his course, and I would take him again. There is a paper, group discussions, and lectures. Attendance is mandatory.
13 Modules/PowerPoints, 4 Exams, 9 Discussion Boards, 1 paper, and opportunities for extra credit by doing movie reviews. Mr. Early provided lectures for all his PowerPoints and study guides for the exams. He is responsive to emails and he promptly puts grades in Blackboard.
Mr. Early made his lectures fun and entertaining through the whole course. I'm glad I got him as a teacher
Professor Early's class is very straightforward. As long as you listen to the lectures, and put in a solid effort in the writings, you can make an A. He answers e-mails in a timely manner, or any questions you have concerns with. I believe he cares about his students, and genuinely wants them to pass. Overall, I enjoyed all good history lessons.
Responded to my emails immediately! The class was informative, and the tests/assignments are ideal for the online class.
Professor Early's class was super easy and I would take his class again. There were a total of 4 exams. 10 discussion boards, which most did not have a minimum word count, and would give feedback on why points were missed. You can use notes on tests and his lecture notes and videos are incredibly helpful. Overall an amazing professor
He is so great. He is understandable and gives amazing lectures. He also gives great extra credit and its overall enjoyable,
He was funny with what he taught
Took 1301/1302 from him a couple years apart but he was still the same fun/funny teacher. His lectures are easy to understand and he makes them fun by always cracking jokes about historical figures and events. Will help you pass with extra credit assignments that are pretty fun honestly. I'd take another class form him happily if I had to.
Mr.Early is my favorite college professor I have had. Going into the class I was anxious but he makes you feel welcome and is very easy to get in contact with for help on assignments. You have tests and quizzes but he is super chill and very reasonable. He gives extra credit and review sessions which help a lot. All and all he is great.
Excellent and fair professor but does not take late or make up work so show up all the time. A signature assignment that is super easy and very clearly laid out. I would take him over any other professor and I believe you should enjoy.
Great professor. He makes class interesting and makes his lessons likeable.
Yes he makes learning through the PowerPoint very entertaining because he is always cracking jokes
His class has amazing lectures which are easy to follow since I watched most of them on 2x speed. His discussion boards are easy to complete as long as you complete the videos provided, and don't require you to comment on other posts. There are also no group projects however the tests can be very difficult and will require you to study.
I've had history teachers throughout my life that I've genuinely enjoyed. But Professor Early is without a doubt one of the best teachers I've had, with History and otherwise. He has high expectations of his students, as such should be the case with any teacher. Pay attention to his lectures, which are hilarious might I add, and you'll pass.
I have to say out of all the professors I've taken Professor Early is my favorite. He is an easy grader if you take the time to go through lectures, follow directions, and turn in assignments on time. Overall, he's great at communicating and making his class enjoyable, considering I took his 12-week course.
Mr. Early was wonderful! He had 2 signature assignments that have a clear rubric. His tests are lengthy, but basic questions. I have loved being in his class. He is also a funny person! He brought a lot of humor to our class.
Mr. Early is a great professor. Also, his lectures are very beneficial and help with the tests a lot. I felt really prepared for his test just by listening to his lectures.
Mr.Early is sure to keep it straight with all his students whether they are failing or not, while being sure to provide chances to make up for any mistakes or confusion that occurs during the lectures. Overall, Mr.Early was a great guy who cared for our learning and experience with U.S. History, and I would definitely take his course again.
Very good instructor, with great lectures. If you show up and listen to the lecture, you will pass.
Mr.Early is an amazing professor that makes learning fun. He injects comical relief into each one of his lectures to make it exciting and engaging. Mr.Early is an overall great teacher and person, if you are taking a class at San Jac having Mr.Early is a must.
Professor Early is on of the best professor I've ever had. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. His lectures are interesting and he puts a lot of effort to keep the class interesting. I would definitely take him again.
I took this class online, so my experience may be different from in-person. The only homework we had were discussion boards every week. They were easy enough, but he would grade them and only say "great" ect. He would not give feedback as to why he took off points. Other than that, his class was pretty easy. 3 tests, 1 paper and drops lowest test.
I really enjoy class with Mr. Early. He is very invested in his work and cares about what he does. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed. The tests are just the right amount of difficulty for a student that pays attention in class.
From the first day, he lets you know what he expects which is to show up, read your chapters so you can take your quiz next class, watch your modules to take the exams, and be respectful. When he says to follow the study guides... follow it to the exact person, date, or battle! He has a bunch of dad jokes but just engage with him. He's super cool
His class is very easy if you the work and study!
Mr. Early was one of the best professors i have had so far. His lectures are funny and very interesting. 10/10 would pick him as my professor again. Pretty easy and fun class to take
I think this professor is a good man and knows a lot about history and I enjoyed his class
He is a excellent Professor. At the end of the semester he drops one quiz grade and one test grade.
he was a plug definitely recommend to anyone
Had Professor Early for both 1301/1302 and he has been my favorite history teacher. Extra credit are movies you can watch, DO THE STUDY GUIDES, quizzes every week, he has corny jokes but they're really good, he can be very engaging, ask him to do his impressions of presidents, loves participation in class if you know the answer. Would take again!
no phones allowed in class and a bit passive agressive. is a high school administator so treats class accordingly with meaningless rules, annoying petty and boring but relatively easy grade
I really enjoyed the in person and online lectures, he is very passionate about history and it shows! The weekly textbook quizzes and the occasional lecture exams kept me on my toes but I learned so much. Flashcards are definitely your best friend for this class. In class participation is highly encouraged. All around great teacher and good class.
Professor Early is engaging and makes the lectures fun. Attending class is key, and utilizing resources like the textbook and unstuck AI for study prep can really help. Overall, a solid history course.
It was an interesting topic so he was automatically a chill guy but he got unbearable. He would scold us for attendance that wasn't important. Apart from that he was a normal weird old guy that incessantly makes bad jokes.
Mr. Early was an amazing professor who is passionate about history and his students! I took him for 1301 and 1302 and had no problems. He makes the expectations clear and prepares you for quizzes and exams accordingly. I would highly recommend!
