Tests unclear and incrediably hard. Too much to learn for any given test. SUCKS!!!!!!!!
WICKED hard. DO NOT TAKE!!!! Expects WAY TOO MUCH on exams!
Determines your grade before you can prove yourself. Expects way too much memorization for tests.
Terrible, such an @$$
No matter how much you put for your answers on essay test, its not enough...He expects way too much...I would never take him again.
Nice guy..but literally you have 60-70 pages of notes for each exam (of 3) and on top of that he gives u 4 five paragraph essays to memorize and 20 articles from the text..if u can write it all WORD FOR WORD..then you are golden
Lots of reading for homework,so many in-class notes your hand hurts when you leave, over 50 pgs of notes to study for each exam and no matter how much you memorize it is NEVER enough!
he's a ****. if you value ypour life and gpa satya away!!!!!!!!!!!
One word...ridiculous..soo many notes, and his essays are awful. Have to memorize material exactly to do good...Extremely tough!!
This is the worst class I have ever take in my life...not only is this guy ancient, he smells, he is the worst grader EVER!!! I would not wish him upon my worst enemy!! Plus he cant drive and he almost ran me off the road!!! Friggin idiot!!!
very hard, stay away!!!
Now there's challenging and then there's UNREASONABLE! This guy knows EVERYTHING about history and expects you to do the same. If you don't study your a** off from day 1, you're screwed.
EASY A!!!!!

Worst teacher I've ever had. Stay as far away as possible. I don't think he showers daily either
Tough Class but very interesting. I learned more from his class than all other classes this year. If you want a tough but interesting class, take anything with him!!!
I don't think this guy realizes that he's teaching in a business school. He expects you to write long essays for the tests, and doesn't give you nearly enough time. I am a 3.0 student and got a D in his class. The guy has no clue!

absolutely RIDICULOUS! There is no excuse for this guy. I can't believe he's been teaching so long at Bryant. What are people putting on his evals?
A damned difficult teacher who's called Testy Estey for a reason. Still, I learned so much from him that I still remember 13 years later.
WORST TEACHER EVER! Don't bother taking any of his classes, no matter how much information you write down on your test its only 1/5th of what he wants. If there ever was a teacher that wasn't possible to please this is the one.
He expects you to write down word-for-word from his lecture and know it all for the tests. He ALWAYS keeps you late and is a really hard grader! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES!!!

He is a very smart man and you learn alot in his class. If you do not do the reading and don't study then u will be in trouble. If u take the class seriuosly then u will learn alot. Take the class if u are seriuos a/b it...if not then drop it.
It is impossible to get an A is his class. No matter how much I tried going into his office to clarify my tests, quizzes and papers. Plus he smells and is soooooooo gross!! Don't ever take him!!
I HAD TO DROP THIS GUY'S CLASS, AND I WILL BE ATTENDING CLASS IN THE SUMMER BECAUSE OF IT... DO NOT..I MEAN DO NOT! TAKE HIS CLASS
I would drop out of school before taking him again!!!
I feel that he is a terrible teacher, not because he makes us work our ass off like we were majoring in history, but because he is very bias. We spent days on so many religions and only spent 2 minutes on Christ. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!!

Took this instructor in 1981. Based on the remarks here I guess not much has changed. Too much information, no credit for hard work, never enough on exams and does not seem to care for students.
Very difficult and lots of notes that he expects you to repeat word for word on exams.
he is worst teacher of all time avoid at all costs. u will want to everysecond fo the class
This guy is a complete ass. The most boring class I have even sat through. Every second of the class I wished I had dropped it. Impossible tests. The only people who do well in this class are complete ass kissers. One word summary of Estey: decrepit.
Worst class ever, do not take it! Do yourself a favor and get another teacher.
HE IS HORRIBLE> I studied for his quizzes and exams over other classes and still failed his tests. He demands so much from students it is nearly impossible to get a good grade unless this is you only class. Don't take him, he demands way too much
THIS MAN WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE!....if you are in this class get out as fast as your can, unless you plan on knowing the ENTIRE HISTORY OF THE WORLD minute for minute. the worst.
DEVASTATING!.gget out of there now, dont mess around with estey. He is a history genius and will prove you wrong every time u speak. Class consists of him being a dictator of the history of the ENTIRE WORLD..saw him every day and failed...OUT OF HIS MIND
How has this guy been at Bryant for so long. Had him in the early 80's. Awful then and looks like nothing has changed. Stay away at all costs!
He is very pssionate and knowledgeable about the subject but he forgets sometimes that his is not the only class student's are taking. He is a nice guy though. Take him if you like challenges. I got an A in his class but will never take him again
Very nice guy, very helpful. But he's got some difficult assignments and exams. Large workload for this class, but I can say that I definitaly learned alot. If you like a challenge or are interested in history there is no one better.
Gives really hard tests and quizzes and expects you to know every word that he said in class. I got good grades, but I gave the class priority over all others. He knows a lot, but expects the same of you. Take him if you want a challenge.
this was one of the most difficult classes ever. i don't understand how anyone could ever do well on his exams. he wants you to recite every word he spoke in class onto an essay. he's a good guy but don't take him. youll regret it
so easy. gives u essays for test and tells u what to write for them and then he will let u write an outline for essay and he will review it and tell u what else to put in. He gives u 4 essays and he always puts the big one on the test. Just go to class + take notes! skim reading and contribute!!!
Is there a stop sign in front of u,if theres not u betta run to undergraduate advising, pick up a drop slip and have him sign it while u can. He is the absolute worst!!!!!!!!

Pretty unfair if you ask me. Not one day that the class gets out on time. If I had a class after his, I would have always been late. Admits that his tests take an hour to complete, but its only a 50 min. period. Even then, hardly anyone finishes on time. Class TOO hard - and im a good student.
this guy gives you a lot of information in his classes and he expects you to know all of that information on his quizzes and tests. very challenging class but not as bad as everyone says...
This guy does not play, starts early finishes late.Tests & quizes are hard and extensisve, they cover more material then most people can memorize for an B+.I'm a good student-ended up with a C.If you have a tough work load, I dont recomend him unless,If you dont try him, but be prepared to WORK!!!!!
He'll wait until you can no longer drop to tell you there's not a chance of passing. this guy is nuts. he explains the answers he wants on his tests then fails you for giving the RIGHT INFO! don't understand it at all, i never failed any class before i had this guy.
He is nice but extremely difficult!!!!! I went to him before every test and even before some quizzes. I tried and put in a lot of effort but he really didn't care - he gave me a C. I only know of 3 people wiht B's and no one with and A and I usually get A or A-. I would never tke him again!!
Had this guy in th 80's looks like nothing much has changed. Hard and not helpful. Just keeps on talking. Stay away if possible.
Very tough class. Expects you to know every single word he recites in class, and then put all that information on tests and quizzes. quizzes are 15 minutes of crazy writing. Very passionate about the subject. I won't take him again though.
DO NOT TAKE HIM he is biased and unfair not a good teacher i went to his office before each exam and he was so unclear i passed with a C i know of one person that got an A everyone hated him If you know whats good for you don't take him
This guy is still Alive???? I took him freshman year and wish i had dropped it, or maybe him with a brick to the head, anyways the guy ruined my GPA even after i tried getting help from him with countless visits to office hours, this is a busniess school you decaying old man, go work in a museum!!!!
Stay away, hands down the worst teacher at Bryant...only cares about his opinion and enjoys failing people
Take this class if you wanna fail and hate history. He is a nice guy but one of the most unhelpful professors you will ever take. He takes forever to give tests and quizzes back and never returns assignments. He give ALOT of reading and expects way to much. Overall, stay away at all costs!!!!!
This guy is so ancient, and smells like onions. Do not ever take is class, if no one registers they can force him to retire and replace him. His grading is completely arbitrary. His life is worthless, and he is a jerk.
This guy sucks, should've retired 10 years ago. Proof that tenure is not always good. Do not take, there are plenty of othter history classes that fill the requirements.
Nice guy, talks a lot and makes you take tons of notes. Tests are very hard. Be prepared to write a lot!
Do NOT I repeat DO NOT take any of his classes if you want to keep your GPA at a respectable level. If you don't know when Louis the XIV took a piss at a certain time during the day you will get the question wrong.
i thought he was good...but then i like history so....
I can't believe he's still teaching. I took his class in the early 1970's and I failed. He is sooo hard. He even gave us 3 questions ahead of time to prepare for test and then he chose one and still many failed. Also took forever to get grade and then you didn't want to see it, believe me. I'm now a teacher and I don't recommend him at all.
This is the worst professor alive. I graduated from Bryant with a 3.7 and he gave me a C+...it was among the highest grades in the class, top 3 at least. His grading is schizophrenic to say the least. He corrects as he goes, and if he wanted fact x in sentence 3 and its in sentence 4, he marks it wrong. Once he marks it wrong he will not change it, even if the very thing he says he was looking for is there. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR, YOU CAN'T WIN. Even he doesn't know what he wants from students.
worst teacher ever bottom line
MY WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD- HARDEST GRADER EVER - IF YOU DONT HAVE POINT A IN PARAGRAPH 2 THEN ITS WRONG.... I DONT EVEN KNOW IF THIS OLD MAN READS THE EXAMS WHEN HE GRADES THEM... FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT TAKE HIM.....WAIT TIL NEXT SEMESTER TO TAKE THE CLASS W/ DIFFERENT TEACHER..SAVE YOURSELF ALOT OF AGGRIVATION AND AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS
My worst experience at Bryant was with this professor; half the class withdrew, and the other half struggled to stay above a D (though I've heard many didn't). You will spend 50% of your study time wasted on this class - do not take Estey.
If you put the effort into your work you'll get a good grade. He challenges you and is a good teacher, the others above are just lazy and expect to get a good grade doing nothing.
im mad at the person below me.. never give this man a smile.. hes is impossible and i did study..he just expects u to know what king tut had for breakfast on a random day he throws at you... stay awaay from him for real

Absolute worst teacher that I have ever had. The tests are impossible, and he'll suddenly make up things you should have known about people/events after you take tests, so there's no way to get things correct. Going to see him for help is useless as he never gives you any clear answers. If I had to take him again, Id seriously transfer...
DO NOT TAKE!!! This is a warning to all other students. My friends father is a Bryant Alum and took his class 20+ years ago. Apparently he was as bad then as he is now. Half the class dropped, the other half got C's and D's. You will spend too much of your time getting too low of a grade.
I took this class expecting it to be challenging. It has now ruined the beginning of my senior year. I am being completely honest in telling you you will not get above a C. It consits of staying late every single class and being miserable two weeks before the exam... Do not take this class under any circumstances class average on test 1 was a 48
This is the worst professor in this school. I went to every class did every aspect of his ridic work load. Made up an exam question which you have no chance of doing well on, and came and saw him over 20 times. I still got a D. I hope he goes on this site, because it really is a disgrace that he is teaching. Stay away no matter what
Horrible Teacher. Can't answer you if you ask him why he works his students to the bone. More work than any other professor at bryant. Daily homework + weekly quiz = bad time. Does not give back test grades. Does not let you keep your quizzes after you take them. AVOID THIS GUY !!!
probably the worst professor ever. I had to drop the class after the first exam. The class is 50 min and he gives 50 MC questions and a LONG, LONG, LONG, essay that must be completed. Its a joke how hard it is. You stay late everyclass and I agree that you are miserable for nearly 2 weeks before every exam. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
he is the worst professor everr..u hafta write down every word he says in class and memorize everything for every quiz and exam, u leave one little thing out and forget it ur screwed..do not take him!!
the guy is the toughest teacher at Bryant; however, the guy gave me a B for the class when i should've gotten a C+. make sure you always have something to say at the beginning of class. he loves participation. it will help your grade--and you'll need all the help you can get

Estey is great. He is very rigorous and you have to remember a lot, but he's fair. If he grades you poorly it's because you performed poorly. Great professor if you're interested in the subject
This guy is rediculous. Hardest teacher i have ever had and he brings in incorrect outside info. Yes, he actually teaches you incorrect things. You have to do rediculous things to pass and you stay atleast 5min after every class. DO NOT TAKE HIM NO MATTER WHAT.
Hardest Teacher in all of Bryant. I am a good student, athlete, and i enjoy learning. In this class i have learned so much than any other class because i am scared. No matter what you write, what you draw, or how much of your brain memory you spill out onto the paper, it will come back with pen all over it, and an awful grade. If you value life run
Great guy, really helpful, easy tests and quizzes as long as you listen to him in class. NOT a hard grader, if you listen to him and take notes in class you can write essays with great details, which is what he expects.
Estey is not only the worst teacher in the history department at Bryant, but the worst teacher along with Judy Litoff in the entire school. Any students who seem to like him seem to enjoy being treated like a child. His credentials are no where near his colleages. He is a bitter, vandictive teacher that should have retired a long time ago.
Estey should not have gotten the bad reviews he did. He has a great personality, is very warm and jolly and is always willing to help. he is a happy and funny man and is extremely intelligent. his clases are informative and enjoyable if your into history. goto class and take good notes so you can wite in DETAIL and youll do fine. He isa hard grader
Awesome teacher. The people complaining are the ones who were too lazy to take good notes and therefore got a bad grade. With good notes, participation, and studying any person can get an A in his class.
I was going to switch out when I read these reviews, but I got there and loved the class! It's really interesting and he's a good guy. It was my biggest workload but it was also my favorite class. Take good notes, memorize those good notes, and you'll be fine.
I have now completed my BA in history at Bryant along with a BS in marketing. I have taken Estey for 2 classes, and this guy really IS the worst teacher in the entire school! Yes, he can lecture, but his assignments are typical of a teacher, teaching junior highschool. His grading is horrendous. Students who like him are typicaly imature freshmn
Be careful! This guy is very vandictive! If you cross him, he will take it out on you, and your grade will suffer. If you want to do well with Estey, you have to play "the game". Be very sweet to him, because if you dissagree with him on ANYTHING, your grade will suffer.
Very old-school. expects way more than students are capable of. Tests are hard. Lots of note taking. Does know his material very well.
this professor is very hard working and he loves to make people memorise every bit thats said in class. Taking notes in class is important and he expects you to be there. However, his grading is horriable and his tests are really hard. Dont take him, unless you want your life to be a struggle.
Nice, funny, personable teacher. Class is very demanding. If you aren't willing to spend the whole class period writing notes non-stop, don't take him. You will be writing a TON. Probably the hardest grader I've ever had. Don't take this class unless you have interest in history, many people in my class have already dropped.
He has an upbeat attitude and can occasionally make a funny joke, but it does nothing to alleviate the extreme stress of the class. Every class period runs 5 minutes late due to EXTENSIVE note taking that always goes past the end of class. He is a relentless grader, the more effort you put into his assignments, the more he finds wrong with them.
Good guy who really knows his stuff. But doesnt realize that not everyone has the same knowledge as him. Expect alot of note taking and classes to run overtime. Quizzes for the most part were multiple choice, test essays are hard and he expects alot.
EXTREMELY HARD CLASS, you will have to work like a dog! Ridiculous AMOUNT of notes, so much material to memorize. EXTREME committment required. Don't get your test back to 2-3 WEEKS. IF you put the effort in and don't give up you will be awarded. BEWARE hardest class ever!
He is a really nice guy and a good professor. You will take lots of notes and do a lot of reading. The tests are indeed hard but they aren't too bad once you learn how he grades, learn to write fast because he doesn't give nearly enough time. Tough class but manageable.
A good professor. Be ready to take lots of notes and read many pages. Quizzes aren't bad as long as you know the material. Three exams made up of one essay, which he gives you ahead of time to prep, and 50 mc. Only downside's he's slow at getting grades back (still waiting on my final grade which was supposed to be due 3 days ago).
This guy has been teaching here for 44 years. He intentionally makes the courses more difficult than they need to be. He will come off as a nice guy, but will have not trouble giving you poor grades inspite of effort put in. His favorite students are usually the immature freshmen who still need to be treated like their in highschool.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!! he is the worst teacher ever he talks too fast and expects you to write and remember every word he says. it is impossible to get a good grade in his class. out of 10 country names if you for get one you get a whole point. he is the hardest grader ever
This professor is HARD and this class is gonna be tough. Get ready to feel the burn in your hand as Estey BLASTS through his lesson plans crazy fast and you will be hard pressed to keep up (also, don't expect to get out of class on time). Lots of textbook reading (its a history course). To do well, you will have to memorize class notes(don't skip!)
THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!! it is impossible to get a good grade. The more effort you put in, the more he finds wrong. Gives you the exam questions beforehand and says its better to know 1/4 of each of them then nothing at all then when u leave out any little detail he kills you. I wrote 7 pages for a test essay and he writes "explain" all over.DNT
STAY AWAY! Seriously if you take him you will regret it. It is a known fact at Bryant that this is one of the worst guys out there. Your GPA will drop if you take him. He thinks that his class is your only class and gives tons of work which no matter how much effort you put in, he screws you over. He is unhelpful and vindictive. DONT TAKE!
Professor Estey is extremely hard, but you will learn more than you ever have before. Be ready to take a GPA hit, but also be ready to gain so much knowledge.
Awful. Awful. Awful. Don't take. He's not very clear and makes the class almost impossible. Takes forever to hand things back to you so you have no idea where your grade is. Perhaps he's easier in lower level classes, but this class was a nightmare.
If you don't want to put effort into this class, stop reading right now. There is non-stop note taking and you always get out late. However the notes (which are given verbally) are actually structured very well if you PAY ATTENTION. ATTEND all classes and put EFFORT in and you will get a GOOD GRADE. Notes are structured in outline form (I,A,1,a)
WORST TEACHER EVER. DOESN'T USE COMPUTERS SO NO EMAILING ALLOWED. DOESN'T USE ANY TECHNOLOGY SO NO POWERPOINTS AT ALL. YOU NEED TO RE-WRITE BOOK FOR EVERY EXAM/ AND MEMORIZE ALL NOTES ( LIKE 10 PGS) AND HE GIVES U 4 POSSIBLE ESSAY QU'S AND U HAVE TO MEMORIZE ALL ANSWERS BUT HE ONLY ASKS U ABOUT ONE ON EXAM. WORST TEACHING METHOD I HAVE EVER SEEN.
Never take this man.He is the most terrible professor and i honestly think that it is time the administration took notice of how terrible he is.I dont know why they are allowing him to teach at this university
Great professor and really enjoys teaching. He will help you out whenever you need it and will tell you most of the things on the test. Take good notes, do not skip and read over your notes again and again. Worth taking because it is very interesting.
This professor thinks that we only have to study his subject. He is the worst professor in Bryant and his papers are impossible. He really needs to retire now.I cannot bear to go to his awful class and his depressing offics anymore. His teaching methods have become prehistoric and he expects you to write and remember every word he says. Please professo
The worst ever professor. He is the worst professor in Bryant and his papers are impossible. He really needs to retire now.I cannot bear to go to his awful class and his depressing offics anymore. His teaching methods have become prehistoric and he expects you to write and remember every word he says. Please professor save the students the agony of com
This is the worst professor i have ever come across. He gives large journal assignments in the week of final exam. His grading is unfair and he looks for ways to pull students dowm and that is what i hate about him.
This profeesor uses ancint methods of teaching and thinks that every studets life revolves around his subject. He expects you to memorize every word like a poem will take marks away from you if you dont know what king tut had for breakfast, what his faeces looked like and how King justinian ate his porrige and how long it took him to reach the loo
Brilliant teacher, who really knows his stuff. Be prepared to take notes, a lot of notes in class (easily fills a notebook or more). His tests are a bit hard, but not impossible. If you go to extra help, he can really really help you. If you hate history don't take him. And make sure you have at least one (it can be small) thing to say every day.
He really knows history well and presents a balanced point of view on all issues. His quizzes and tests are not easy because he requires a lot of detail. This is definitely a class where you have to think. You will take a lot of notes but the content is very interesting and he makes it relevant. If you're not a fan of history then DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Ridiculous amounts of notes taken. You literally take notes the entire class without stopping and he expects you to memorize it all word for word. He always lets you out at least 5 minutes late just rambling on making you take notes. The quizzes all have 2 or 3 good answers per question. Very difficult class.
Exams are impossible! Admin says he gives too much time for tests and he thinks its the students fault when really only about 1 kid is able to finish in the time given. So he doesnt bother to shorten his test. Jams soo much into exams always scrambling for time. Expects 8 paragraph essays(makes up only1/2 the test) and every essay is unsatisfactory
Notes will be your life during class. No breaks means no breaks. Good guy, but makes his tests way too hard and long, so dont expect any A's on them unless you study AT LEAST 10-15 hours and even then he'll find something wrong with your writing. In a class of 25 only 1 person will be getting in the A range which is sort of rediculous
This is the second time I've taken his class (this time as an elective) so I obviously like his class. I won't lie... it's very challenging. If you're looking for a slacker class, this is not it. If you're looking to learn A LOT with a really nice, really brilliant man take this class.
He literally knows the history of everything. There's nothing he doesn't know. He's incredibly smart and incredibly interested in helping students do well. It was a really difficult class, but definitely worth it.
omg...it was a suicide attempt for me to take this class. I withdrew as soon as I saw the first test which involved over 20 mult. choice. 15 fill ins. identify 30 significant locations and name 3 unique facts about each.....oh and a long essay which will be chosen randomly from 4....you got and hour and 15 minutes....good luck.
Professor Estey is amazing but his exams are challenging. However, he gives you the entire structure of the essay beforehand so all you have to do is make an outline and you can't go wrong. He knows a lot about history so you will definitely learn the subject well.
If you are thinking of taking him, don't, exams are 50 multiple choice two essays, one of which ends up being the length of a 5 page paper, gives you four choices for essay but doesn't tell you which one it is till exam day, so you basically have to prepare yourself to write 4, 5 page papers
This is a truly brilliant professor. He is a genius, but expects his students to be as well. You will learn SO MUCH, and his class is very interesting, but it is hard to finish the tests and I put a solid 10 hours of studying in before each test. Read the book. it helps!
1. He takes weeks to grade anything. 2. He assigns 8+ page papers, gives you two weeks to do them, and makes them worth 12.5% of your grade each. 3. It is impossible to finish the tests/quizzes while meeting his quality standards. 5. Attendance required. 6. You will learn a lot. 7. I got a C, I'm a history major, and my other grades? Straight A's
During class the information taught can be interesting. I'm contemplating withdrawing since I keep getting horrible grades no matter how hard I try to study the material. Lots of reading (like most history courses). If you have a really easy course load then you might be able to pass. Requires a LOT of your time. I don't recommend taking his class.
Estey is nice to your face, mean with his pen. He consistently dishes out bad grades due that are not consistent with mistakes. His grading habits are bad as he rarely thinks enough information is provided. 15 minutes are given to finish a quiz that has 40 minutes worth of writing and material. His lecturing is boring but bearable. GPA Killer.
Requires a lot of his students. As others have said, he is a genius and he grades tough. In order to do well in the class, you almost need to know the material well enough to teach it. He encourages students to meet with him more than most professors. I really like him as a person and he is a very good teacher, just be prepared for tons of work
He is one of the best professors in the university. Truly knows the subject that he is teaching. A very kind and nice person however BE WARNED his classes are extremely hard and will require loads of work and thinking if you want to get at least a B. getting an A will require and exceptional amount of work!
Very smart guy, knows everything about history. Always willing to help students, just ask. The course does require a lot of work. Do the readings, go to class, ask questions and study hard. He is a pretty tough grader but if you show up o every class and ask questions you will do well. I got an A in the course.
Well he is a nice guy and he waits till after the add drop peorid to give his first exam. Well he honestly tells you everything you need to know, and thats everything. He flyes through suff in class and you will write 4 pages per class, all fair game on exams. If you have a gifted memory easy A. If not like me a D is what you should expect.
Really nice guy, leaves no questions as to what you'll be tested on. Workload really isn't that bad, reading assignments are usually really short. My only gripe is how tough he grades essays. It seemed like no matter how much I wrote about, he still wanted more. I write essays well, but he was impossible to satisfy, given the time we had to write.
No Estey! Not like this!
The worst. Just, the worst.
Please do yourself a favor and avoid Professor Estey. An incredibly difficult grader whose classes are intolerable. On the creepier side as well. Just an awful class on so many levels. He has ridiculous criteria for his quizzes and I cannot understand how he grades essays and papers. Avoid him.
Worst person/professor I have ever had to deal with. Doesn't understand anything other than history and is extremely hard to approach. Do not EVER take him
Estey is a nice professor, but brutal grader. 3 exams total, gives you 4 possible essay topics and chooses one randomly so you have to study all 4 before the exam and on top of that you have 50 MC questions, it's a race against the clock to finish his exams and if you want a B or higher, study until you know it all, and then study more.
HHEAestey is a really nice guy. go to his office hours a lot if you're not sure about smth!
I will never understand any love for this guy from the comments below. He has absolutely no problem failing each and every one of his students, including his fans. Impossible grader, unclear in his teaching, and an overall painful experience, including for history majors. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this man.
He will have absolutely no problem failing you. He does not care about your other course load or your major. To him, History is everything and it should be the focus of your time here at Bryant. Literally cannot stand his ignorance to not using his e-mail at a school based on communication through e-mail. He will not e-mail you, do try, trust me!
ABSOLUTE HELL, DO NOT TAKE.... EVER
He's a funny & nice guy. That being said he really loves history and wants you to almost be on his level. Assigns a lot of work. Tests are near impossible and cover a lot of material. Most people walk out of the class thankful to have a C.
I have taken Estey twice now and have gotten B's in both classes. I am a history minor at Bryant. If you have a passion for learning about history, take him. You will walk away from the class feeling accomplished and most likely remember lots of cool things. If you do not enjoy learning about history then I highly suggest not taking him.
Great person! Enjoyed his lectures and learned a lot. However, by far the hardest class I have ever taken. The tests are impossible! Do not recommend taking this class.
This was the second class I took with Estey. There is a lot of reading but if you keep up with it and go to class, you will do fine. He is always available for extra help and willing to go over what will be on the test. If you don't go to class, you will fall behind, but if you show up, it will be easy to stay on track.
asks you what kind of A you want
He expects you to write 3, 5 page papers for ever quiz but only gives you 15 minutes to do so. Talks very fast and will always keep you 10 minutes after class. Great guy, really nice but his class is impossible to get an A in and a struggle to get a B in.
Every single class you'll take an average of four pages of notes. He gives you weekly quizzes based off of 3 days of classes.. essentially means you have to know 12-15 full pages of notes for a quiz which accumulate to only 12% of your grade. Test's you don't have time to think.. must know every little detail before you walk in. Don't take.
Very difficult, but if you take notes and pay attention you'll do well. Exams are tough but he is very clear about what he expects, which is a lot by the way.
He expects you to write a 12-15 pages essay ,50 mcq another 100-150 sentences only for the in class final exam .
Excellent instructor. I had Estey for US History in 1984! Glad to see he is still inspiring students today!
Estey is a hilarious and great guy but his class is so hard. He gives you everything you need to know but his expectations are unrealistic. His quizzes should be 45 mins long but are 15 and his tests are 50 mc and you study 4 really huge essays but only get one. On top of that he is the world's hardest grader, he expects you to know everything.
Inherently a nice guy - but incredibly high expectations and tirelessly lectures the whole class (expect 3-4 pages of notes). Esteys fundamental problem is that he lacks any concern for the obligations and course load of other students. A majority of the students are business undergrads - not graduate students seeking their doctorate in history.
Great, enthusiastic professor. If you like history I recommend taking his class. He rewards improvement and is always willing to help. Don't take his class if you don't want to participate at all, because participation will get you at least a letter grade higher. Tests are hard, but you know what are on them. Asks you what kind of A you want!
It was torture, literally. I had to retake the class in order to get a passing grade and not ruin my entire GPA because the first time I failed even though I studied really hard. I learned from my first 6 months in the class that if you don't add every single detail you will fail. I.E. I had to put the condensator was added to the steam engine.
I got to thinking about Prof. Estey and wanted to see if he was still around as he was the best professor of any kind I ever had! When I see that he had some poor reviews I was livid. Sure he's tough but I remember things about the courses I took with him to this day and I graduated in 78! Exams are essays that he gives you before so PREPARE!
Study really, REALLY hard. I spent hours in his office going over tests, class lectures, and editing my big paper, and I still barely passed. You WILL fail if you drift in an out, don't take notes, or just plain not show up.
He is impossible and unrealistic. He expects his students to pretty much know as much as he does. Gives you 15 minutes to take a quiz but with the amount of information he expects it would take you 40 mins. No matter how hard you study or how long, he picks apart your essays like crazy. expects you to remember every word out of his mouth. DONT TAKE
Would not have survived if I had not studied like crazy and consulted the notes of students who passed his class. But he is one of the professors that makes the class worth the money you are paying for it. The chance of a Bryant student being a history major is slim but any student would benefit from the skills he teaches.
By far the worst History professor ever taken & have taken history course in other countries. Slightly sexist towards female students & makes inappropriate comments about different religions & sexuality. Weekly quizzes w/3 essay questions- has to be done in 15 mins. Exams are 50 mult. choice & essay in 50 minutes. Unrealistic expectations.
Just don't even do it to yourself. Estey is a very nice man, but his class is impossible to pass. It really doesn't matter how hard or how much you study, you're still not going to pass. Truly expects you to remember everything he says in class, verbatim. Quizzes are brutal and tests are unspeakable. DO NOT TAKE.
Professor Estey, while quite difficult, is not as hard as people say. He is always willing to help and rewards improvement. Not many do well, but those who show him that they put in a huge amount of effort and time will get As. Grading is arbitrary so you won't know where you stand, but generally higher, not lower, than expected (88 can be an A).
Very passionate about what he teaches and is engaging during lectures (which are basically the whole class). Expects a lot, but you will learn a lot. Highly recommended for anyone willing to work that wants to actually learn in college.
I have never had such an impossible professor before. It is a day before withdrawal, and no one knows where we are at. We have taken 4/5 quizzes and only gotten back 3, and have taken 1 exam. Exams are worth 70% of the grade and we still don't know what we have gotten from three weeks ago. You will read A LOT in the 5 books that he gives!
Not enough space to explain why Estey should be AVOIDED!!! His classes are impossible and most history majors cant even get an A. His tests and quizzes are impossible, he expects you to regurgitate his every word. Extensive homework is given every night and he holds you 10 mins late EVERY DAY so he can finish. Even your advisors warn you about him.
Really nice guy and knows everything about history. His class is very demanding with tons and tons of homework. His quizzes are 3 chunky paragraphs ( 10-15 sentences) in 15 minuets. His exams are super hard, to do well on you need to know the material like the back of your hand. If you want to work and learn a lot, take this class, if not AVOID.
Professor Estey is a very difficult grader. Knowing general information on any given topic is never enough, must know specifics to get a good grade. Exams are very difficult, gives you 3 possible questions and 1 is on the exam.. He says he randomly chooses exam topics but it's pretty clear which one he is going to go with.
