Biggest **** i've ever had in my life.
horrible.
AWFUL! Talks to you like you are a Genetic Major and know what the heck anything means. When asked to explain he gets annoyed and briefly repeats himself. STAY AWAY!
BORING. A girl asked a question once and he just went on with the lecture. He snaps at students to write faster all the time.
His lectures are clear and organized. Do the homework and study the lectures and you'll be okay. Doesn't cut you any breaks, but I've had a lot worse.
Genetics professor - DONT TAKE HIM!!!
Not the best but then again Im in a class of around 1500. What is there to be expected. The man stands in front of class for an hour and lectures. If you dont get it then get a tutor or read the book. Hes not so much a teacher as he is a recorder. I dont know him on a personal level or a profesional level.
He's a bore, but he knows his stuff.
Dr. Fadool is better as you get to higher topics. I had him for genetics and didn't really care for him, but took him again for animal development and liked him. The tests were challenging, but I studied a lot and since I knew what he was likely to ask and how the test was set up, I did well. read the book and the notes and youll be fine.
Decent teacher. Definitely know his stuff. He has a sense of humor and his test are relatively easy.
Okay for one who this guy his notes are not placed online so you basically have to come to class. I heard that his tests are 80% of the test but hey I am still doing bad and I go to class. I don't like him not very good teacher. His tests are hard, final cumulative. I hated him and still do. don't take him if you don't have to. He sucks!!!
His lectures are pretty good since he covers a lot of material on the test but he even said that he covers 80% of the test and the book covers 20%. I think it's 50/50. A lot of the material is from the book. Overall, he is not a bad teacher and knows his stuff.
just make sure you go to class and take good notes...(60%)doing the definitions, problems and reading help you out(40%)
He is the worst prof Ive had at FSU. His test are ridiculous.
I love Dr. Fadool. If you don't get something, he is very willing to help. His tests are pretty hard and that's all of the grade (minus bonus quizzes), but welcome to being bio majors! I enjoyed him so much I'm taking him for animal dev too.
I've had him for animal dev. and genetics. His tests are hard, but fair. As long as you come to class everyday and do the definitions, you should do fine, but you do have to work hard for your grade.
Really nice guy, interesting stories, very interested in his students and their success. With that said, his tests a hard and I found them somewhat unpredictable. Class attendance is good for his notes and for bonus points - I studied a lot for each test and finally got the hang of it in time for the final. Overall, interesting class-I recommend!
Excellent teacher, tells you precisely what will be on the test and specifies which problems in the book will be similar to those on the test. Those who find the tests to be extremely difficult should consider another major. Anyone with a decent work ethic should make an easy A.
Unrealistic. Lectures & book are clear and understandable so you study and walk into tests w/ confidence, however exams are made to where only a geneticist can get an A. His class average on tests is 67-70 and does not curve. Even the smartest of people come out of with their 1st C. Tutored for other professors in genetics, take w/ someone else
Not the most thorough of professors. He was okay - if you're one that relies heavily on instruction, I'd recommend another professor. If you're okay with self teaching, then don't worry about the discontinuity of this guy.
Dr. Fadool is one of the best teachers I've ever had. With that being said, his class is no where near easy. It does require you to do a lot of work on your own, but that is expected for bio majors. He did seem intimidating, but he will meet with you to go over exams or any material you don't understand. He's more encouraging when it's one on one.
Great professor, felt like I learned a lot and I got a 103 in the class. Doesn't curve but gives EC quizzes that more than make up for any curve he would have given. Seems like a nice guy, pretty impatient with off topic questions though, as he should be.
He is not good for genetics!! Genetics itself is not such a hard subject but Fadool makes things way more complicated than it needs to be. Nice guy 1 on 1 though. His tests are made so that if you miss 2, you are already at a B. He writes notes really fast and bad handwriting.
Awesome animal development teacher!! He is very helpful in office hours if you don't get the material. He tests right from his notes (but they are very detailed and in depth) awesome class if you are pre med.He has weekly quizes strictly for extra credit. Didn't use the book at all and pulled out an A.
Not a good professor. I personally find the topic of genetics easy to understand but he takes it to a whole different level. Makes things way harder than it should be, purposely confuses us on tests and quizzes and calls it "challenging" us when it's costing us our grade. Has terrible notes and handwriting. I learn straight from the book
He is not a good professor. His exams are tricky and some questions are obscure. He does not curve and does not post notes online. He has horrible handwriting and doesn't like being asked questions. Unless you have to, do not take him.
Awful teacher. He is obviously a smart man, good at genetics, but unfortunately he does not care about his students learning. He purposefully puts ridiculous questions on the exams that try to trick students, instead of questions that show your understanding of the material. And tests are the only grades. Nasty to students... he needs a new career
He is very smart and knows a lot about genetics but is a terrible at teaching it to students who don't know much about genetics. The material is not too bad but he makes it much harder than it needs to be. The tests are unpredictable; there are questions I didn't even expect to see. Read the book a lot, I taught myself pretty much.
HORRIBLE TEACHER. do not take him. Not only do his class notes barely ever make sense once you need to review them because he writes in incomplete sentences and just uses keywords, but his tests are ridiculously hard. Even reading the text front to back and using the manual wouldn't help you predict what would be on his tests and hes unsympathetic
Awful teacher. I made an account on here just to write this review. I would give him all zeros if I could but unfortunately 1 is the lowest possible score I can give.
Clearly the person below me did not go to class. I went to class and found the test to be very easy. He made it pretty clear in class what type of things you should be studying for the exam. I thought he was a great professor that really knew his stuff.
I will recommend this professor if your goal is get into medical school. You will learn how to study and will learn a lot of genetics.
He is a great teacher but like any science/pre-med requirement it is not an "easy" class. He explains the material very well through lectures. So as long as you attend and pay attention, the tests will be a breeze. He gives random extra credit quizzes towards your exam. The tests are very fair and you will have to use concepts you've learned.
I only heard bad things about Dr. Fadool, but I genuinely loved his class. Yes, his tests are pretty difficult, but after the semester is over--you will know genetics. As long as you read the textbook, take notes, and study, you should be fine. He is super nice in office hours and willing to help. He gives extra credit quizzes and adds a curve.
Worst professor I've ever taken. He is extremely rude and makes his tests very hard to pass.
I consider myself a good student so I thought I would be able to handle him but no. Worst professor I've ever had & made for the most frustrating class every single day. None of his notes make any sense even if you go to class every day. His tests are so unpredictable I would spend a week studying & get a C. Do yourself a favor and do not take him
Dr. Fadool's class was one of the most difficult classes I've taken, and I've taken calculus. It was difficult in the sense that he pushes you to know the material more than textbook definitions, to be successful you have to study for knowledge versus memorization. NOT an easy A but worthwhile if you want to be successful in any HL biology course.
If you take good notes and review the book for his unit, you should be fine. I took his advice to review the information he had gone over and told us to know and I did well.
Yes, his class is really hard but I passed. To pass I went to him after every test, went to office hours & went to optional recitations. He really does care about you (if you actually make an effort). Read the book & take notes from it and look up outside resources. You'll probably do better than you think & take the extra quizzes seriously!
Dr. Fadool is very specific with how he words his questions, but all answers can be found from his notes from class. The textbook helps a lot! Detail is everything when it comes to this class, and attendance is a must for quizzes and the details he usually tests on. Quizzes only help, they don't negatively affect you at all!
The hardest biology class I've taken thus far, but also the best. He really challenges you to use the information to solve puzzles--basic memorization is not nearly as important as application. Go to class every day, take notes, and work on homework assignments as often as possible. Devote time EVERY day--cramming will NOT suffice.
Fadool is a good guy, but be ready to stress over this class all semester. Prepare to go to every class, study your notes every day, and heavily use the textbook. I ended up dropping this class after the first test (I had extra credits to drop and this was just not worth it) then took genetics with a different prof and got an easy A.
Extremely rude to his students and condescending, clearly does not care for his students passing. His tests werent too bad but dont go to his office hours unless you want to feel put down, he always seems annoyed by people asking him questions or approaching him.
All exam material comes straight from what he teaches in class, nothing extra from textbook. Gives pop quizzes for extra credit, go to class!!! I loved this course and the material he taught.
This class was rough. 2 exams worth 30% each and final is 40%. Pop quizzes for extra credit so go to class! All material comes from in-class notes that are not posted online so GO TO CLASS!! He also goes pretty fast and exams are really detail heavy so you really have to know the material. Textbook doesn't help too much but it's worth looking at.
It's an upper-level course, so expect detailed pathways and concepts. One of the things that drove me nuts was how much info we needed to know for exams that he didn't write down and only spoke out loud. Extremely frustrating. His notes are sparse and hardly coherent, so you really have to figure a lot of stuff out on your own. Not the best.
I personally enjoyed the class a lot. The information was fresh and his notes covered most everything on the exam. If you dont go to class, you wont know exactly what he wants you to know, so you shouldnt skip it. The real way to succeed is to go to the lectures and do the reading. The textbook great diagrams and elaborates the class notes.
Take another bio elective. Prepare to work for your grade. Just take another bio elective.
Professor Fadool is a good lecturer and clearly is highly knowledgeable on the subject manner. His unit I believe was the most difficult in the course; be sure to study in advance for the test. If you pay attention in the lectures and make an effort to study prior, you should do well.
Fadool? More like Da Fool!
Definitely need colored pens like 5 different colors so ur notes make sense.. u have to go to class bc he doesnt post his notes but tbh the notes would make absolutely no sense if u didnt go hes a really good teacher and lecturer obviously this class is kinda hard content wise but hes a good teacher.
Dr. Fadool made me rethink about majoring in biology. He stated orgo and physics are easy classes and mean nothing if you get an A in those classes, due to his class being way harder. I despise this class and I am hoping I get a C. He is not a good professor and makes students feel dumb.
The most arrogant professor I have ever had. He is unwilling to accept criticism and will only teach using his illegible notes. Instead of WANTING his students to understand, he purposefully makes the class more difficult and proclaims that if you’re doing bad in his class, you’re not cut out for science. Extremely discouraging. Avoid.
Terrible professor. Lectures are all over the place and you can barely read his writing. Exams are the only grades in this class, quizzes are extra credit but really don't help your grade. Exams have questions meant to confuse you and recitations are a joke
Notes from lecture only cover the basics; doesn't require you to read the book but you will not pass without. All bad ratings are from students expecting an easy A and blame Fadool for their lack of effort. He is a great professor & highly knowledgeable in Genetics; this isn't "baby bio 1," & can't pass just by showing up; only grades are exams
Worst teacher ever. Genuinely disrespectful and condescending. Told me that my A in orgo 2 meant nothing compared to his course. His questions are so contradicting on exams and you must know every little detail or else your screwed. DO NOT TAKE AND PLS TRUST ME!!
Do not take Fadool!! Take a different professor or wait a semester until another professor is offered. He is extremely unclear about what will be on the exams and makes them very difficult. Three exams and final is the only points toward your grade. Not to mention he is disrespectful towards students, please save yourself and do not take him.
I was definitely struggling and not passing at first, but this class made me change my study habits for the better. He is a bit scary to approach at first but if you're honest with yourself and let go of your ego, there's a lot to learn from him!
Definitely a doable class. All you have to do is make sure to write down all of the words in his lectures. You dont even need the figures. I have a 100 right now with extra credit from quizzes. Memorization heavy
I'm gonna b honest, some of these reviews for the semester are annoying. He is a good prof, just hard. He's nice but if you're doing something wrong, he'll let you know. Gives really helpful advice but you have to actually be open to criticism. Class is fast-paced but if you set aside enough time for studying his notes, you'll be fine.
I did not enjoy Professor Fadool's style of lecture. He spends each lecture writing notes by hand and making crude drawings that are projected onto the screen for students to copy. Your grade is based on 3 tests and a final exam. If you pass the final exam you will pass the class. Read the book! Use the Anki deck that is free online! Read The Book!
He gets a worse rep than he deserves. Genetics is hard, his exams force you to know and understand the material. His notes can be basic so you have to go to class and pay attention to add in more information. You won't be tested on anything he doesn't mention in class. The textbook is also a great source of clarification.Quizzes are extra credit
I honestly have really enjoyed this professor! I have him for baby bio and the information is clear and easy to understand in his lectures. He makes slides and presents them to the class as his lecture. He's funny too, cracking a few jokes here and there through out the lecture. I found him to be great!
He's just okay. Whether you enjoy this professor will mainly come down to what kind of student you are. He doesn't post his slides online, and even then, the slides seem to lack detail and specifics, so you really have to listen to what he says verbally, which for me, can become confusing and unheard. I was better off reading from the booklet.
Not my favorite professor. Not super intriguing. Kinda hard to follow during lectures.
Professor Fadool is very knowledgeable and passionate about his subject. However, his lectures can be a bit boring.
3420L: You can tell he cares about his students and helping them if you reach out. However, he's not afraid to let you hear it if you under perform. He will reward you if you put in the work, and show your'e trying. I think thats what makes him a good professor, he lets you know he's invested in his class and the well being of his students.
Great guy with fair exams, expectations, and very available to speak with outside of class.
Not a great professor. Very boring lectures, especially at 9 am when no one wants to be awake. Other professors for this course were a lot better.
Professor Fadool was okay. He is passionate about his subject, but I don't think that same passion transfers to students taking this course. I found the lectures quite boring at times but to be fair, it was a morning class, so nobody wanted to be there anyway. If you attend the lectures and take good notes you will pass, easy as that.
He is definitely not as bad as everyone makes him out to be. His lectures are not the clearest, but he does give good practice problems. The textbook is your best friend. His tests are hard, but they are not unfair. If you study a little every day, you will be ok.
Didn't provide ppts or his notes on Canvas. Go to class if you want material other than the textbook, which he doesn't follow in lectures. His lectures are very fast and don't follow a clear pattern, he just tells you ALL the information and doesn't organize well. His notes are sloppy just writes a few words instead of a sentence. Go to tutoring.
Did not give ANY resources to succeed. Lecture notes were messy & hard to understand & not posted. No homework or anything to practice with except short practice exams that did not help enough. Fully taught myself from the textbook (which sucks) & youtube. Got Bs on most exams but never left them feeling good they were super hard to understand.
Absolute worst professor and class I've ever taken as a junior. I'm only ending with a B since I read the entire text book. lectures are absolutely useless. so hard to follow along with his terrible drawing/notes. your entire grade is 3 test and a final thats worth almost half your grade. on top of this, he is extremely rude to students.
Definitely not the best teacher for my learning style at least. Either I have an undiagnosed learning disability (plan on getting checked out) or he is just not great at explaining and staying organized. Probably a little bit of both. Seemed like a really nice guy but had a hard time looking past the boring lectures. I strongly recommend Dr D (YT)
One of my favorite professors! Teaches with handwritten notes, so going to every lecture is a good idea. Very approachable and office hours are helpful. He attends the TA's recitations and even runs extra review sessions before each exam, which not a lot of STEM do. Two "pop" quizzes before each exam, but he usually warns you about when in lecture.
He would give pop quizzes that would count for extra credit since the only grades that went to your overall score were 3 exams & a final. makes sure to give 1 of his quizzes on the last lecture before thanksgiving break. his notes are almost impossible to understand when reviewing so youre better off solely using the book. take different professor.
This class is very dependent on the textbook as well as lecture material. Make sure you know the material like the back of your hand for every exam, he goes off of his notes. This is one of the more difficult biology classes I have taken, make sure to take time every week to understand the material. Go to office hours!
The only way you learn is by going to the lectures, the notes he gives are only available in class he doesn't post them. There are three tests and the final which your grade is made up of. He gives "pop" quizzes in class but are only worth extra points for your test. Overall the subject was hard and he did a pretty good job of teaching.
Lots of information packed into every lecture I had to rely on textbook a lot.
I do not like his teaching style. He does handwritten notes, which I like, but he goes way too fast and his handwriting is not always legible. It's also outline style so it's not detailed. It was always hard to understand the material based on his lecture, so he emphasizes using the textbook, which teaches better than him. Wouldn't recommend.
Easily the WORST professor I have ever had in all these years. He is extremely rude and condescending, even if you go to his office hours for help. He is actually just a mean person and the type of professor that likes when students do bad because it shows his class is rigorous. Avoid at ALL costs.
Kicked me out of his office because I said something that rubbed him the wrong way about neuroscience and acted like a child by going on a rant. He completely misunderstood what I was even implying and assumed the worst then refused to listen to any explanations other than the one he made in his head. Completely unprofessional.
One of the only professors I've ever had who seems to take a special kind of enjoyment in seeing his students fail and suffer. Exams and quizzes are impossibly difficult, rushes over material in class and doesn't post his notes or slides but instead drones on about boring topics. Most people fail and he doesn't curve. Avoid at all costs!
I got along with all of my professors at FSU--but Dr. Fadool gave off such a hostile vibe at office hours, both to me and the other guy who was there. I simply wanted to look at his notes again since he scrawls them so quickly during lecture. I give myself credit for following my gut and dropping his class. I didn't need it to become a doctor!
This class was way too hard with him to the point I had to drop because there was no turning back. Your grade is only the 3 exams and the final, with a few extra credit quizzes that are only 5 points. Just take it with someone else for your sanity.
I dropped this class, and I have never dropped a class before. There are pop quizzes but they barely count. Your grade is basically dependent on the 3 exams and the final. His teaching style is just him talking and writing stuff down that you have to copy, which he makes so confusing and unclear. Bad attitude, bad teaching, do not take him.
BAD, 0 notes on canvas good luck missing a class because you aren't getting the notes. Takes his course way too serious and actively works to make students experience in class more difficult than it needs to be, more so than actually teaching the content at hand. Very short temper and has occasional outbursts on students. Take any other Professor.
Short temper, little to no grace, tests are not necessarily hard but you may be surprised by how low your scores will be, and there is absolutely nothing to help pad out the grade if you don't do well testing. I'd pick someone else. Closest thing to my way or the highway without actually being there.
It's clear that the guy is really knowledgeable and passionate in the subject, but he can't teach it. His notes are unintelligible when looking back on, he doesn't explain anything in a beginner-friendly manner, and he doesn't provide any study material besides a handful of terms from the book. Anyone who has to take him, good luck.
One of the best professors I've had at FSU! Class is entirely exam based, so it is not easy, but I think he lectures well and he is very approachable at office hours!
Horrible prof. lectures are useless but you have to go. handwritten notes that are trash. exams are difficult. you NEED the textbook no joke. barely extra credit. no assignments. sure this is a difficult subject but he makes it 10x worse. says "look it up" if students ask questions in class. just do yourself a favor and take it anywhere else
I tend to side with professors, however this guy was blatantly rude to students unprovoked. Refuses to round up no matter what. Confusing notes. Gives contradicting info about what will be on tests. Not good at explaining. Really was fine up until the last month of the semester when no one could drop.
Grade is based on 3 midterm exams, and one final weighted 40% of your grade. Nothing else. Hand-written notes, very in-depth, and lectures are very fast. He does extra credit pop quizzes, but they don't help unless you are prepared for the small details. You NEED to read the book and go to every office hour he has.
writes down his notes on paper in class, and only tests on what he writes in his notes. he is slightly rude to students and can be very passive aggressive. super lecture heavy so i wouldn't skip his class. his exams weren't bad if you studied his notes. he also does random extra credit 5 question quizzes
Tough professor, interesting lectures if you are a bio nerd. I came out of this class smarter and with a greater ability to solve problems than I did before, and I really learned a lot. I just wish there was more padding for grading, as your grade depends on exams, which means if you mess that up, you're cooked.
Very lecture heavy, exams based on in class notes. Tests are difficult but manageable with the right amount of studying and memorizing the notes helps. He is kind of rude to students but is knowledgable in this subject. TA's were great and a lot of help.
Every time a lecture finished, I would walk out so confused because he did not know how to teach this subject. Just because he knows it well, he assumes talking about it for 2 seconds will make you understand it. If you do badly on 1 exam, you are screwed for the rest of the semester. Not the nicest to people asking questions in class, either.
He's such a rude person does not care about your wellbeing or mental health whatsoever. This is the only class I've ever dropped and I am so glad I did l. The majority of people ended his class with C-. I would study so hard for the tests and still get C's and D's. It's literally just not worth it guys don't take him
The thing I liked about this class is that we didn't only learn the material. We leaned what works best when we study and how to mentally absorb information. We put ourselves in the shoes of scientists. I appreciate his class because you can't get these skills everywhere. Even though I did poorly, I think this will help me in future classes.
Literally just take any other genetics teacher that is offered besides him. Acts like we should know more than what his taught, loves to annoyingly abbreviate in his notes, and his notes are chicken scratch. class only consists of hard pop quizzes for extra credit, 3 tests, and the final. Barely anyone I know ended with an A. He SUCKS.
Just take anyone else. Incredibly rude person. Made this class so difficult for no reason. Useless handwritten notes from him. Only plus is that he offers extra credit pop quizzes, but they're only worth half the quiz points. You will need to read the textbook to understand literally anything. The class was full on the first day, then 50% by final.
Your whole grade is three exams (20% each) and the final (40%). Everything on the tests is from the notes he writes down in class. However like half the questions are made to trick you.
