He is very passionate about the subjects he teaches. However can spend an entire class mtg. talking about himself (where he's been, who he knows, etc) and it takes away from my interest in the subject
Very opinionated! Don't disagree with him (even though he's full of sh*t most of the time) or he'll spend the class telling you how important he is. Takes an extremely liberal point of view and does no leave any room for negotiation!
WORST PROFESSOR EVER, PULLS FACTS OUT OF HIS BUTT AND SWEARS THAT THERE REAL. EVERYTHING HE SAYS IS GARBAGE AND HE USES THE CLASS TO JUST VOICE HIS OPPINION RATHER THAN ACTAULLY TEACH. BRINGS IN BOOKS THAT HIS FRIENDS WROTE AND TRYS TO CONVINCE PEOPLE OF HIS BELIEFS EVEN THOUGH HES A BIG WACKO.

He is one of the best professors I have ever taken. He will open a student's eyes to the subject at hand and the world. He is worthwhile taking if you really want to learn. He is intelligent and will better your understanding. He is not easy, but he is a fair grader. You get what you put in.
Horrible....this professor is the worst I've ever taken. His two hour class was a big lecture on himself. His egoism blows me away. The last ten minutes of class he'll tell you what page numbers to read...that is the only reason worth going to class. If you go the day before the test you'll get the same info. anyway.
He is the best instructor in the Sociology Dept. If you want to learn, take him. He teaches things that no one wants to here, thats why some people don't like him.

Great class, very easy all yo have to do is sho up and listen to what he says. Very helpful, it's harder to fail his class than it is to pass with a B.
Arogant and Rude! He'll love you if you agree that all white people are always evil, but if, God forbid, you have a differing opinion, he'll get in your face and shamelessly harrass you in front of the class. Takes it WAY too personally to be respectful of other opinions. Avoid if possible!

Very interesting guy. I call him the Rush Limbah of race. Very one sided, but not malicious. Interesting class. If you are a minority, you will love him as he really tells you everything you want to hear. If you are white, just take the good with the bad and walk out with at least an easy B.
he's a really boring lecturer cause all he does is read to you out of the book, but the tests are exactly what the book says, and sometimes he'll give you all the answers the class before the test
His teaching is not self-centered. The point of taking courses such as race and racism is to understand the minorities point of view, which is ignored by society at large.
The posts prior to this one talk about this being a great class for minorities. I totally disagree. I'm a minority and I found this class a waste of time. Fenelon does not teach. He complains and gives hypothetical examples of racism to get the class worked up. He gives personal testimony and eyewitness. I learned nothing.
Great insight into Race and Racism! Passionate and caring about native Americans and other minorities. Pretty easy A for me and a good majority of other students that I spoke with. Good class!

I agreed with the things he taught. only compaint I have is that lectures were all over the place,made it almost pointless to go to class.Tests were not reviewed and he said we were not going to have a study guide for the final so I had to stresfully skim through the enitre book again, only for him to post a study guide late the night before on BB

Truthful I thought that this would be interesting, however as soon as the professor started talking I knew it was going to be along quarter. He basically teaches using his friend's books and uses his opinions to teach the class. He also mumbles towards the end of his sentences so its hard to understand his at times.
Very boring.All tests are out of his friends book or his own.He gives you all the answers for the test in lecture and again right before.Easy A but he gets a little carried away with his time managment.Be prepared to get very angry with the things he says about society.
Can learn a lot from him. Can't write any notes down, but it's all good. He talks a little too much--the same thing over and over again and again, so it's hard to forget what he just said especially when the final comes! LOVE the INTENSITY of the issues!! Love when he argues with students!! Otherwise you can't learn a thing from him.

I loved sitting in Mr. Fenelon's class. The work is challenging but worth it just to listen to his lectures. You learn so much about the world that you cant get in the newspaper. He's very experienced and has encredible stories to tell.
Required you to write a good paper usually 6-7 pages,lectures are long but informative,very liberal, knowledgeable, and minority ethnic conscious, read assigned readings, I took him for two classes and got A's in both
I usually don't rate my professors, but I felt that he needed one. His class is very easy if you do the readings. Attend class because he lets you know exactly what to study for the quizzes and tests.
Boring teacher that rambles on an on. You do not need to come to class or read the books because he gives you all the information you need for the tests on blackboard. He thinks his class is the best class in the world and that everyone in the class absolutely loves it so he goes on tangents about stuff that does not pertain to material.

He teaches, and keeps the class interesting. However, their has been some statements that he has said about someone that was based out of the media, but he did no research on that person before making those untrue statements. In overall, he knows most of the stuff he talks about.

This prof is so scatterbrained. It is very hard to stay focused during lectures, he's constantly throwing out random information. It is very easy to tune him out. I wouldn't really recommend him.
This man is an open book ask him anything on the subject and he doesn't even need to look at the book to answer it, however he has a tendency to stray just a tad off topic (especially if it involves Native Americans). Tests are easy, papers are easy. pay attention and you will do great.
Very chill professor. As long as you do the readings and do all the work easy A or B. His exams and quizzes are not too hard. Tells you ahead of time what will you be tested on. I would recommend him!
He can sometimes be hard to follow and a bit confusing. Just do your best to follow along and you need to be there to listen to his lectures. He tells you what will be on the quizzes before you take them and he grades pretty easy. Overall an easy class to pass.

Endless knowledge. Dr. Fenelon always keeps the subject interesting with useful related experience lectures. If you truly want to learn about sociology rather than attend a class for a grade then this instructor is for you.

Mr. Fenelon is a great guy. Initially I thought the course material was going to be overwhelming. If you listen, take notes, and read the book. There's no reason you won't get an A or B. Besides, he spoon feeds you the Q & A to the exams. Definitely recommend taking him!

Fenelon is passionate about what he teaches but gets off on hour long rants and loses half of the class. He does quizzes which are easy, you learn a lot from being there, but he repeats himself A LOT and is a bit scatterbrained. Guest Speaker was amazing though. No organization w/lectures, reads to the class straight from the text. Take at own risk
Goes off on hour tangents. Don't buy the book, it serves no purpose and he doesn't agree with half of what the author is saying. When it comes to midterms, he doesn't show great concern on how the class does. Assigns pointless "Feedback papers". Quizzes are easy! Class is overall easy, just pointless.
Do not buy/rent the "textbooks", he posted study guides for each quiz and tests. Memorize those study guides, the exact question will be on the tests/quizzes. I spent most the class time on pinterest or amazon and will be getting out with an "A". His lectures are BORING but if you memorize those study guides, you are guaranteed to pass!
Very easy course, don't buy the books, he posts very precise study guides for every exam. Easiest professor at CSUSB. Don't bother buying the books, he gives you word-for- word study guides. He is a bore, so attending class will be painful, but it's an easy A and Fenelon is a passionate teacher.
He has good intentions but doesnt teach. He goes off on random topics that aren't on the test. He doesnt clarify what he wants in any assignment and changes the due dates and the assignment itself at the last minute. Take this class if you want to have a headache all quarter. He's nice, but his class is all over the place.

Nice person but honestly was all over the place, kept changing his mind on every assignment, not clear on what he wants on the essays, doesn't do powerpoints, goes off topic a lot so you never know what to write down. You basically rely on the books for the midterm. Headache all quarter.
Loved this class and the professor was awesome. He is much more concerned with his students understanding concepts and learning about the subject than with dates and places that you will forget the minute you leave the class. He rambles on and on about Indians and barely connects it to the class itself. you have to attend EVERY class because his tests are based of what he talks about and not really the book. This prof. isn't too bad nor is he too good. He goes off into tangents for the majority of class, which makes his lectures boring. He can be somewhat stand-offish when it comes to asking him simple questions about the simplest things. I took him during the summer and it was brutal, because he made us stay till the very end of class. Overall... meh.

This professor is so off the wall. Everyday he just talks and talks and goes on tangents about whatever. Students will ask questions and never get a clear answer. He is never really clear on what he wants.
He's eccentric to say the least but he's very passionate about the subject. His lectures ARE long but they're helpful, as many of his verbal statement ended up being test questions. The class itself wasn't too difficult, it was just a matter of attending class and listening.

The content of this subject is very sensitive to all races. I won't rate him on that. However, if you go to class, then he will repeat what you need to know for the test. If you attend class and study the study guide and read then you will get an A. He was kind to me. But the subject of the class was difficult to sit through. Lectures were long.

Dr. Fenelon is a great professor; it just takes a decent student to recognize that. He seems to be all over the place during lecture, but he always brings it around. He is considerate; he more an prepares the student for exams and quizzes. He is lenient on papers, so I don't know what bad reviews are about. Grow up; you're not in community college.
Test 1 is the toughest cuz no study guide but still easy! All other tests have study guide and I did not even go to class. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE THERE AFTER 1ST TEST! Easy A just ready study guide. You are welcome lol
He's all over the place his lectures are pretty boring but he provided a study guide which is pretty clear. I studied the night before and got 48/50. Not a tough grader. Quizzes are easy and obvious. 7 page paper. Again easy grader. Make sure you study the study guide and you will be fine he takes roll everyday. May need book 4 paper

He's a nice guy and lieniant with tech use, so cells, laptops, etc. He talks...a lot. His lectures aren't focused and blackboard is a mess of articles, so it's hard to navigate. He is passionate! I feel like I'm listening to a long winded unorganized story when attending his class. Class isn't mandatory, but READING is a must to pass.
All over the place. He goes off and talks about interesting topics but it doesn't help you when it come so to the test or essays. Very unorganized and switches up a lot of things. He does give you the questions to the test but you HAVE to read the book, which means you must buy/rent them.

One of the best course, I've ever had. He is very passionate of what he teaches is very interesting and is always willing to help, but you have to demonstrate that as a student you are making a effort, follow up in his readings. Be noticeable and follow his instructions.
Honestly the worst professor that I've had on this campus. He rambles for about an hour and a half and actually lectures for about ten minutes and it is not helpful for quizzes and tests. He is completely and utterly biased, so don't take what he says literally. Read other sources.
Let me start by saying that this guy talks A LOT! but if you study the study guide that he provides for every test, you will definitely pass them with As. The Quizzes are easy as well, he usually talks about the information that is going to be in it a day before, and you get to do them with the whole class.
He is the worst professor I have ever had. He never stops talking and can be rude. I asked him for help because his instructions for one of his assignments were not very clear. I asked can I write about (blank) and he responded with I don't know can you? I don't feel like I learned anything from his class and I had him for 306 and 316. Don't do it!
Inspirational speaker, great informer. He knows his topic very well. He's always accessible to students. He cares for student's success. There's a signing sheet that must be sign. If not clear about something and class is too crowded, he always makes time for his students.
This was an easy class. Yes, he does ramble and actually teaches on the subject 20 minutes of the class. The study guides are exactly like the test. On some things he's not really clear what is expected.
Professor Fenelon has a tenancy to ramble about his passions and leaves most of the lectures to be discussed in the final minutes of class, but the power-points are available online and the quizzes are what will be on the tests. The class is not hard and he makes it so that you pass with flying colors.
I was confused through out the entire class. He did not lecture about any course material, his lectures consisted of bragging about his accomplishments and his books. He is not clear about what he expects on assignments. You also don't know what to expect on quizzes and tests, also no clear due date on anything. Do not take his classes.

He goes off on tangents VERY often and can get extremely political with crude remarks. He doesn't stick to his lecture and barely puts any information on his "informative PowerPoints." He will expect you to know all the material he speaks about. He'll refer to three "required" books but will never use them on his exams.
He's always clear about everything. He will tell you every single thing that will be on the test. He even gives you the questions. The only way to fail this class is to no show up. I went to class everyday and only did a minimal amount of studying the day before the test and I got an A on everything. Easiest class I've ever taken.
He lectures heavy and takes up the whole class time. He talks a lot, and about many different subjects and topics, however it's more for background, it explains the material on the tests. He may ramble, and there's no clear order of the topics he talks about, but his tests are almost exactly like the study guides. He is a very knowledgeable man.
Extremely political; if you recorded any one minute of any of his lectures and played it for someone who doesn't know him, they'd know exactly which way he'll vote in the next election. This class is at least very easy. No book buying or studying will be necessary; if you attend half the lectures, you'll know what he wants you to say on the tests.
This Professor rambles for his entire lecture. Very boring and very technologically challenged (posts grades in a word document by student ID # instead of through BB). Last half of the class is even more boring because he just reads out of the book the whole time. no need to read, he gives you all the questions and answers before every test.

Although Dr. Fenelon can be boring this was an easy class! He literally will tell you what is on the test you just have to really pay attention. Go to the class before the test and take notes. He will give a study guide on the 2nd test and everything after. He will over extra credit, but it shouldnt be needed. The book really isnt necessary.
You know, his classes are extremely boring and he can be unorganized. That being said, if you can put up with the boring lectures, he is nice and its an easy A. Taking him again for that reason.

(Soc 410) He is very nice, and passionate about his lectures. Don't skip class, because all of the test/quiz questions are based off his lectures. Textbook not required Second optional book recommended. He is an easy grader when it comes to writing assignments and presentations. Again, just come to class, put minimal effort, and you will be fine.
I really enjoyed Fenelon. He really is passionate about the topic and knows his stuff. He can ramble a lot but that's just him. Fenelon assigned three exams and one 7-10 page paper. For exams he will tell whats going to be on there make sure to attend class. Also the paper is not difficult to write & he gives good feedback. Overall, easy A!
Hes an inspirational professor. He really knows he stuff. Easy A. Like 2 papers, a few quizzes, midterm & final. He literally goes over & gives you answers for quizzes/midterm/final. Up to you to write down to study for later. Gives out study guides. He had sign up sheet for presentations (optional) No way you can fail. Interesting course

My time in Professor Fenelon's class was decent and nothing to rave about. There was a paper and also 2 tests that were given out. The test where essay prompts and there was 1 paper the whole semester but you were to add more information as a final. The paper can be on anything related to the class and the test was based on the books covered.
You're gonna need text book(s). Professor tends to talk a lot and really not very tech savvy, so the class modules on canvas are kind of a mess, however it's a pretty easy class. Graded on only a few things, a few exams and a couple quizzes.
SOC5450 He likes to hear feedback from the class with readings, even if you don't do the readings he will go over them again. Most times he will go off on a tangent with his stories and experiences and we run out of time in class. The teacher will allow you to make up assignments. Choose him for your class & you wont regret it! No Homework really.
The professor overall seems like a nice person. Unfortunately, he tries to teach 1,000 things at a time, his directions and syllabus are very confusing. He rambles around 50 things and the way he words things is confusing. He also accused my class of cheating because we did well on the quiz and on the tests. He does not have many assignments.
The professor isn't clear about his assignments. He doesn't have many assignments, so if you get a bad grade on a test or quiz, your grade will drop. The professor gave answers for his quizzes and tests in his review videos and then blamed all the students in my class for cheating on the quiz/test. Announcements are very long and intelligible.
You will have to read A LOT, the professor is unclear about his assignments and is hard to reach. I emailed him a few times and never heard back. Be prepared to study for the tests because your grade will drop drastically if you don't do well, he doesn't grade assignments by the way. I would take someone else if I could.

Professor Fenelon's class was decent. He's passionate about the topic, but can be rambly. The exams and paper aren't too difficult if you attend class and use the textbook. Unstuck study was a big help for exam prep.
Overall, I would say he's a good guy but at times if the class does really good on quizzes/tests he would suspect that the class is cheating which is quite preposterous because he literally gave us the answers that's on the assessments by giving us study guides/review sheets to do. Also be prepared to buy 2 textbooks and listen to his lectures.
Unorganized so by sure to check canvas everyday, there quizzes and tests so be sure to look at the videos he posts in order to study for them, some extra credit opportunities, there a very limited time that you get to actual take the tests/quizzes so email him in advance, and there some random writing assignments too. Good luck!
Honestly, he does an okay job at teaching the class, but he is so not good with technology. He does not put the assignment on the actual page for assignments, which makes it hard to see if there is any other work to do, whether it be quizzes or assignments. It makes you miss a lot of work, so try to take it with another professor if you can.
Prof. Fenelon is perhaps 2-3 times more self-righteous than any man has ought to be. He has difficulty operating Canvas and using the internet in general. He holds zoom sessions that he doesn't announce in advance and instructs students to do homework he hasn't and won't post for several days.
