Mr. Fightmaster is the most wonderful instructor ever! He is sweet and kind and goes above and beyond his duty to ensure that you understand the material and goes to great lengths to work with you in any way possible.
Fightmaster is very insecure and can be extremely vulgar and rude! If you want a teacher who works incorrect test problems for you and lets you recopy them for a better grade, then go for it, but if you really want to learn anything find another teacher!
Mr. Fightmaster is one of the nicest teachers you will ever have. I can honestly say he is one of the only teachers that I have had that actually put the students first. Very cool teacher.
Mr. Fightmaster is the best Math teacher that VW has on its campus. He is very approachable and will do anything to see you successed. He gives us the respect that is earn and we should do the same. Thank you Mr. Fightmaster for being there for us at VW.
Jim is the best. He's funny and friendly. He's sooooo smart, too.
I don't see how anyone in their right mind could give this guy a good rating. If you are willing to get horrible grades all semester, fine. He gave a MATH test to us in French! The only good thing is that he curves everyones final grades at the end of the semester, which is why hes still there.
I loved this teacher! I hate math, but he had such passion and comes from such a romantic frame of mind about it that I was in awe. Anyone who doesn't like him is lost.
i like mr. fightmaster. i like him better outsside of class for conversation, though. his classes demanded me to read the chapter beforehand, and if i didn't, i was miserably lost. unfortunately, i don't understand math books too well either. but he's very patient with his students. so it's okay.
This Michael Caine look-alike is the second worst teacher I have ever had. He must sleep on a chalkboard, b/c he always had chalk on his back and usually had on a pair of bowling shoes. He never explained how to do problems, but always would talk his dog
I took flightmaster a few semesters ago and had to respond due to the students beating him up. He is a good guy who really does love math. Yes he is a little flighty but that is what gives his classes the humor. Keep an open mind and ask for extra credit as he will most likely give it. Show up for class and give some effort and you will be fine.
he is not a bad guy, but he is real hard to follow in class!!! i had to get e tutor, gives lots of extar credit, test are easy !!1
Great guy. easy class. GO KY (his fav team)
Mr. Fightmaster is a really nice guy... but an extremely tough teacher. I hate how he likes to call you out in class... and his tests are seriously the worst i've ever taken. I will go in thinking I am prepared, only to leave very disapointed. He does allow room for lots of XC, which is nice. He is brilliant, but not very good at explaining things.
He is probably the nicest guy I've ever met. He gives out tons of extra credit, and sometimes lets you do corrections on his tests. Write down everything he writes on the board. He is always willing to help you out.
I loved this class, he is will call you out but i think this is what keeps me awake, i loved his class. He really loves what he does... and music...
hard. knows this stuff but cant bring it down to your level.
Really bad teacher, he will promise you extra credit if you correct your test. But at the end of the year, he will not add the extra credit on, he doesnt' have to if he doesn't want to. If you want a C or lower than take him.
James and Warren Fightmaster are the same people, he is really weird. He is very hard b/c he can't teach. He only gives extra credit b/c everyone fails his test. yet, he might tell you there is extra credit but at the end of the year he will not add on the extra credit b/c it will not balance out other people grades, don't beleive him.
Horrible teacher!!! His test is extremely hard, at least half the class fail because they can't understand or read his notes. Nice guy but can't teach and extremely weird. Favors certain students and doesn't explain well. If you don't do all your hw and study you will fail. The class require at least 6 hr/week so majority of the class get a C
Mr. Fightmaster is not that bad. He gives tons of extra credit and wants all his students to succeed. He will work with you, and most won't! Take him, you'll do fine.
Actualy had a D final and Fightmaster refused to tell my my Grade took a final wrote my name on it caused me alot of trouble
Awesome guy. But get out of his class as soon as possible. In the beginning, he gives everyone 75 points on their test, 2nd test is about 50, and then everyone fails after that. He is a really cool guy but as a teacher, he is horrible. At least half the class drop out because he is so hard. Well good luck if you are taking the course.
only way to pass his class is if you take VERY through notes. he is super intelligent, but has a very hard time bringing the material down on the level of a first year class. helpful hint: go to his office after class and ask for help. he will give you extra credit!! keep an open mind about him.. hes a little strange, but a good guy at heart.
A bit alternative, but he is a great guy. Understands the subject -- he's studied at Oxford, UVA, and a million other places. If you can cut through some excess, he really teaches well. His office is always open and he answers his home phone if you call.
He is a really nice guy who KNOWS HIS STUFF!! I'm not a math person, but he offers so much extra credit that I didn't need to know math. Overall, it wasn't too bad.
This is a professor that is passionate about mathematics. Lives and breathes it. If you show an interst and study hard you'll do okay. His tests are more of what's in his mind, not in the book for the most part. Listen in class and pay attention. He gives hints about what will be on the tests. Not impossible to get an 'A', just unlikely.
He is a great teacher, knows what hes doing, and a good guy, really. I had him for Liberal Arts Math 151 and 152, and got B's both times. DO EVERY SINGLE EC! I got over 30 percentage points of EC! He gives it out daily! His tests are hard, come from his lecture, but gave at leat 50 percent to start off with! He is a good teacher, and an interesting
Jim is great professor, genius, and very interesting. He starts off test with at leat 50% ec. He gives ot EC daily. I had 30% points of ec by the end of the summer session. I liked him so much I too him for 151 & 152. You have to talk to him, he wants to get to know his students. I got B's both math classes and math was NEVER my thing. Study n read
I feel like the material he teaches is easy but he makes it seem so complicated. Most people never really know whats going on in that class. He started us off with 60% EC on the first two test which is the only reason I am passing.
This was the hardest teacher I have ever had in my life. He is a really nice person but can not teach at all!!! He speaks in French during class and thinks it's funny an talks about his dog the whole class. Also he runs about five to twenty minutes late for every class so it starts late then keeps you until the very last minute. Awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fightmaster is an excellent teacher. He is very helpful. All he wants is for his students to be interested in math. He is one of the best teachers I've had in my 4 years at college.
He is a good professor...if you come to class, listen and pay attention...you should pass. He does give lots of extra credit. I mean he is a nice guy and very helpful...all you have to do is ask for help. I feel like the other comment were unfair...he cares about students, also uses lots of humor to lighten up the class mood
Mr fightmaster is a great guy with a true mathamatical mind.
He is funny and nice but he often goes on random stories about old mathmaticians that he names our "heros" and also some about his "two language speaking poodle", makes it hard to understand what he want us to learn, but again very funny to watch though
I took precalc in high school and aced it, but Fightmaster makes the simplest material almost impossible to understand. He does not keep students interested in what he is teaching. I basically had to force myself to attend class and only passed bc he gave 60% on almost all tests. He is very educated, but he has a hard time relating to students.
As a person, he's a nice guy but when he starts teaching. It's impossible to understand what he's trying to teach. He goes on with his time consuming stories about his poodle and speaks French randomly. The only way I passed his class was his 60 points up-front extra credit on his tests. If not for that, then I would fail for sure.
Fighmaster was such a great help - I've had mediocre math scores in the past...and had to work hard in his class, but he was so informative and helpful that I ended up with a great grade.
Do NOT take his class! Tests are so vague that you have no idea what he is asking - yet he counts your answer wrong. 60% EC on tests is bull. If he graded fairly we would not need it!
This man knows math like he invented it. He is more than willing to see all of his students succeed. I would recommend him to anyone taking a math class.
He is certainly a different kind of teacher. He is so passionate about math. His tests can be a little irrelevant sometimes but he gives tons of EC opportunities and will pass you if you are trying. He wants you to learn something new! If all you want to do is ace the tests and get nothing out of the class, then you will not like his teaching style
Great guy, but needs to learn how to teach. Hard to understand and follow, but loves to go on rants about his dog. Tests are brutal and focus more on the mathematicians than the actual math. Supposedly he gives a ton of EC, but by the end of the semester he "forgot" to record half of mine. Don't take him if you care about your grade.
Teaches abstract concepts regarding math. Only about half of each test is problems to solve. The other half is definitions and dates. 60pt cushion on tests, so test answers = 40% of test grade. Make an effort to meet with him during office hours, and show you are trying to succeed. Attendance & class participation helps when grades are borderline.
You either love or hate Fightmaster. I, personally, found his love for philosophy and passion for Galois a nice break from the usual boring drone of a normal math teacher. He knows his stuff and hints to what will be on the tests! Study up, and you will be fine; he gives a ton of extra credit which helps a lot.
As a professor, he knows what he's talking about, but cannot bring it to a level that the students can fully understand. As long as you pay attention in class, take notes, and read along with the book you'll be set for the class.
For those of you scared to take this prof. that is ridiculous. Not only is he extremely intelligent, he legitimately wants to see you pass. Either do the work or not, but if you don't you will fail. (I had him for 151 and am currently in 152).
He is a wonderful person and enjoyable to listen to. However, he is also hard to follow and tests are more concept based and with definitions than actual problems. Gives a ton of extra credit though I worry if I'll get credit for it all in the end as he seems unorganized.
He is too brilliant for his own good, but is a pleasure to be around. He has a great sense of humor.
Prof. Fightmaster is definitely from another planet, but so am I - so he's in good company. He is a very laid back, cool-headed dude. Loves math, and he'll give you a few laughs. His class was enjoyable, and if you put about 80% effort in, you're sure to get an A.
Literally one of the best teachers this school has to offer, you want extra help? You certainly will have it if you ask. The most helpful person I've ever seen in my over-extended stay at this school because of indecision of field and love of learning. Kind, clear, and concise. You show up and pay attention and you are sure to pass no problems.
One of the worst at VWCC! I had to drop this course! If you are not male and obsessed with Kentucky Wildcats Basketball, he wants nothing to do with you and will not provide any help for you. Stay far away from this course!
While it can sometimes seem he is on his own planet, he is one of the nicest people I've ever met. No, his class isn't the easiest but I find it to be very interesting. I HATE math but I'm really enjoying this class; a lot of it is history based. He gives 60 points up front because he doesn't care about tests/grades; he has to give them.
I loved Prof. Fightmaster. He made Calc 1 and 2 so much easier for me by teaching ahead in his precalc classes, but he gives massive extra credit for his tests so you still do well! Very different but fun professor.
Jim Fightmaster is the greatest instructor I have ever had in my life, and I am a Physics student at Old Dominion University so thats saying somthing. He has aloooot of office hours so take advantage. He will teach you the material. Sometimes he puts stuff on the test that wasn't taught in class but maybe was in the book. But he challenges you!
Fightmaster is very interesting to say the least, to a well versed math student he is probably pretty easy but since i'm not his class can be hard the biggest thing is that he knows the material really well but just doesn't bring it down to a regular students level the examples he gives during class are helpful but the tests are much harder
he isn't a very good teacher he doesn't explain things clearly or teach the course clearly like he should. i took pre calc in high school which was a year ago and understood it perfectly now it makes no sense because he doesn't give good notes
Fightmaster is a very interesting teacher...any by interesting I mean he's a little crazy. He isn't good at answering questions and his exams never follow the rules or even what he has taught in class. Luckily, he curves every test by 60 points so it's impossible to fail. I didn't learn much of anything in this class.
I wouldn't say that this class is hard, but the way that Fightmaster teaches it makes it so hard to follow. He is the most uninteresting lecturers that I've ever had. I'm an A student and I studied hard for every test, but he is very misleading about what will be on it. In short, save yourself the stress and take another prof or another course.
Best professor I ever had!
His lectures are all over the place. For his tests he gives out study guides that have material that was not taught in class, and then most of the material on the study guide does not show up on the test. It is so hard to understand him. He is nice but I hate his class because he is so unclear. Unless you want to struggle, take another professor.
Fightmaster is one of the best teachers I've ever had. His compassion to help you learn makes it difficult get a bad grade (if you study). If you still don’t understand the material, stop by his office. He is happy to explain it to you. I've always hated math, but Fightmaster made it interesting. People who did bad in the class didn't study.
his class was very dull and uncomprehendable. Fightmaster would go on tangents that no one understood or wanted while this took away from the flow of class. Also, he would give study guides for tests and they would have nothing to do with the tests. Lastly nice and very intelligent guy on a personal level but a bad teacher in class.
A brilliant man, will go incredibly far out of his way to help you outside of class if needed, expresses a vast knowledge on whatever he's teaching. I feel lucky to of been a student under someone so knowledgable only downside is his handwriting.
I hated this class because of Fightmaster. He is an incredibly bright man but he shouldn't be teaching. Half of his tests are facts about mathematicians and things he hasn't taught. There was little math involved, just memorization. He taught straight from the textbook and would call you out in class for not paying attention.
Brilliant man. His handwriting is terrible but after a while you get used to it. He's a great guy and an excellent mathematician, although sometimes I think he is too smart to be teaching at a community college. You will think you are going to fail at first, but trust me, he won't let that happen. If you need the math credit, go ahead and take him!
Fightmaster's a very intelligent man, he is very passionate about what he is teaching. The course itself is tough, but he gives you many extra credit opportunities so you can get a good grade. He cares about his students, and is willing to help during or outside of class. He'll go out of his way to be there for you. Definitely would take him again.
Mr. Fightmaster is a great teacher with a lot to say on many subjects. He really knows the material, wants you to learn it & goes the extra mile to help. Also he doesn't give too much hw. Tests are a bit more involved, but overall superb class. I'd go as far as to say that he's probably my favorite math teacher ever. Take him, you'll like it.
He's so nice and funny just a terrible teacher. He gives curves for every test though, you can't get below a D.
Mr. Fightmaster is an awesome human being and a good professor. I enjoy his class and his extra knowledge on the subjects that sometimes the books don't provide. I would definitely take him again!
He is really nice and he is wants you to pass but his class can be a bit boring. He gives you a lot of extra credit and it is hard to not pass his class. Showing up for class is a must if you want to know what is going on. Also, his handwriting is sometimes questionable. His A's look like Z's. I recommend sitting up close.
He is a great professor. *Read the margins* He will definitely take the time to help you out and go over old tests with you. Hint *correct tests* it helps.
The monotone lectures make him very hard to listen to for a long period of time. Very boring lectures, hard to understand what he's saying most of the time due to lack of motivation in his voice. He is however a nice guy, but he could just use a bump up on the motivation scale about teaching.
Fightmaster is the most eccentric man I've ever met. Don't bother buying the textbook, you will not need it. Monotone voice and quiet, so sit up front. Gives out filled in test review sheets, matching the test. Do test corrections for lots of points. The final exam is a non-existent. Need the credit? Take this class.
Fightmaster is a good teacher. He has a weird personality and has really bad handwriting but you get used to it. He is always willing to help you out if you need help. Also, he gives so much extra credit on tests so it is very hard to get less than a C on his tests. I enjoyed the class.
He's pretty inspirational during his lectures, especially since it's a math class and you're not expecting it. He also gets you excited about the subjects.
Okay first.. He is a really nice man and weird (in a good way). Now that I got that out the way, I felt confused on the material cause of the way he teaches. However he gave lots of extra credit and works with you. He really is there for his students even though his class his hard and can stress out. Oh and don't bother buying the book. TAKE NOTES

gives lots of extra credit, I had him for 151 & 152, very caring and willing to help, you will take notes
Seriously is so sweet. He genuinely cares about his students. You have to try to fail, he works with students so well. i was skeptical because of reviews but enjoyed his class after all. Sometimes his teaching can get confusing, hang in there, he genuinely wants all his students to pass.
Such a caring guy. He genuinely wants all of his students to not only pass but get the highest grades possible by giving a lot of extra credit opportunities. In class his lectures are incredibly boring but outside of class he explains things really well.
I am horrible at math, but both times I've taken his class I've gotten a B. He lets you do test corrections for your math exams and gives a lot of extra credit. He genuinely cares about you and your grade. He is a tad bit boring, but such a great professor! highly highly recommend
Mr. Fightmaster did such a good job with explaining math concepts and making sure that everyone understood the problems before moving on to new problems. Paying attention in class is a key factor in your overall success! I would also definitely recommended paying him a few office visits and taking advantage of extra credit opportunities(:
I took him for 2 semesters. He is an unquie man whose jokes are dumb and funny. You can tell he loves math. BUT he doesn't really teach instead he lectures and seems to be having more of a conversation with board then the students. His test are annoying because it's never anything you learn. I feel like I have learned nothing
Mr. Fightmaster is a great professor and he will go the extra mile to help you. He is very smart and he was listed as one of the contributors for the textbook that was required for the class. He wants to make sure you understand the material. I dislike math but he helped me. Take notes and pay attention! If you are strugglng, ask him for help.
I took both part one and part two of Mr. Fightmaster's class. He is the kindest professor that I have had in my entire college career. He really wants to see his students succeed and has a very obvious love for math. I recently went to him asking for a letter of recommendation and he wrote extremely nice things. Amazing professor!
I took both 151 and 152. I never received an A in math in my life until i took his class. He explains the material well and encourages you to go to his office anytime! He loves and cares for his students. He doesn't hand out any homework, but sometimes has extra credit opportunities. He is the sweetest and most nicest man i have ever met.
Fightmaster is the easiest professor at Western. You would have no not show up to fail. Just take notes and you don't need a textbook. Gives lots of extra credit and is always willing to help. Highly recommend if you want an easy A in math!
One of the sweetest men you will ever meet! The class is kind of difficult, and he is hard to follow, but he genuinely wants everyone to pass. He curved every test we had this semester. Do the extra credit assignments. Also, take the time to go to his office hours. His "a"s look like "z"s... you'll see what I mean.
Most people at first will think Mr. Fightmaster is a weird guy, mostly because they didnt have a teacher like him in high school. The material he teachers, he knows by heart, which makes it harder to learn. If you seem him one on one outside of class, he will devote his time to helping you. He is an easy grader and gives partial credit on tests.
The lectures could get off topic and were sometimes confusing, but he's a really nice guy. He genuinely cares about his students and wants everyone to pass. Also, he curveballs a lot of things, and the final exam was basically non-existent. He rarely gives out assignments and never posts anything on blackboard.
professor fightmaster means everything to me omg hes so passionage about MATH. he deserves the world. everyone take this mans class and
Hes so passionate and funny.
The sweetest math teacher to ever exist.
Prof. Fightmaster is the best math teacher I've ever had. He's so passionate about the subject. He's also so funny and just the sweetest. He always asks how your day is going or what your weekend plans are. If you copy everything he writes on the board, everything he's explaining will click and make perfect sense by the time class is up, trust me.
Fightmaster is so sweet!! TAKE THIS CLASS. He wont let you fail and any questions you have he will answer them & hes always available to help. Although his lectures are boring and hard to sit through, you will be successful in his class.
Best teacher i ever had for math
He's pretty mediocre. He tends to forget what he had gone over the class before and repeats himself a lot and doesn't explain things very well in class. Honestly, I didn't even know what was happening in class half the time and neither did the rest of the class. He is, however, very good at communicating with you and is very happy to help.
Not a bad person, teaching style is outdated.
Fightmaster is a sweet man and cares for everyone. The class was easy but hard to follow. half of the time the class was lost. He easily got off subject. Do the extra credit assignments and MAC Paper. On every test, you get corrections and start with an automatic 60 points out of 100. if you learn quickly and like random stories take his class!
Fightmaster was a good teacher. Very smart! Easy tests but lots of lectures! Be sure to go to class and have the textbook you use every day! Be sure to work on the assigned paper all semester!!
Fightmaster was an amazing teacher who would always come in at 8AM with a smile on his face and ready to teach. Sometimes he gets off topic and talks about his life. However, overall the test are easy, he gives extra credit on test and he's very helpful outside of class.
He is the best teacher and the best person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. simple as that.
