Great guy. Boring Lectures. Extreme Liberal. Class is easy as hell. i missed like 10 classes and still got a B.
possible anarchist? overall very liberal ideals. No homework, decent lectures, very diffcult essays. Not clear on subject matter of essays but tends to compensate by grading easily. Exam reviews and class notes are used for final exams. The only difficult aspect is a quiz given in the beginning of the semester regarding the reading material.
the guy is ridiculous. his grading school is crazy, if u get a 80-82 on a test its considered a C. this guys basically screws you out of your grade believe me get another teacher. On top of everything, his lectures make people want to sleep and if ur a republican, avoid this guy BELIEVE ME. i honestly have nothing positive to say about Mr. Ford
I'm sorry but this guy sucks. I am not one to drop a class but after the first night I was done. He expected us to read 150 pgs. (6 chaps.) in 1 week! On top of that there are 3 papers ranging from 2-10 pgs during the semester. He speech is unclear and his lecture was so confusing I could barely take notes. No thanks!!
Dr. Ford was so boring and even though I went to almost every single lecture, it wasn't necessary. I NEVER read and I didn't pay attention in class, and I got an A. He assigns two papers and is not very clear on what he wants, but he graded my papers very easily. And I used the same paper twice just with a different intro and conclusion!
I thought this professor was better than the others but I was wrong. Although he only gives you two assignments, this guy doesn't grade well. The highest percentage on a paper will be a 89 and if you are off the subject you get no points at all.
The class is boring. Lecture is basically real life examples. The class is fairly easy as long as you READ THE BOOK. Lots of reading, but that's expected at college level. Tests are short and difficult only if you do not read the material. He will try to help if you ask questions, but may accidentally move onto something off topic.
Nice teacher, interesting class.
I went to Mr. Ford's class only twice and I knew I would never pass his class. His lectures were so boring and unclear. He barely smiled and he mumbled sometimes. I dropped his class after attending the second class. His grading scale is unfair. I don't recomend this teacher to anyone.
I actually learned more in this econ class than my other econ classes but for the life of me, could not understand him half the time. Very nice guy and yes, extremely liberal and lets you know his views on everything from helathcare to politics but has some good points. Went off track ans questions and had to be re-asked. graded easy if you do work
Ford is intelligent, he is just such a raging liberal that it gets in the way of actually learning. The books are also so liberal and one sided that I know I'm not getting a full education on the subject. The class is an easy A as long as you show up. All of the tests were open book, including the final.
Dr. Ford is an awesome teacher. I loved being in his class. He stimulated my curiosity in addition to teaching well. Thank you Dr. Ford for a wonderful experience. I will take another of your classes. You are the best!
He is a very nice Man. He is very passionate about what he teaches. He is very proffessional and very educated. He really knows his stuff.
Professor James Ford is an outstanding professor. He is very down to earth, kind and understanding. He knows his subject well and has answers for all questions. Although he is a democrat, he gives you a fair view of both parties. His quizzes and final test are open book and is generous while grading. I would definitely recommend him to ANYONE. :)
Mr. Ford is very nice and easy teacher, his grading scale is a little bit confusing. I highly recommend taking his class for Econ. He does not have any hw, only few papers and test. His test are open book. I loved his class.
Dr.Ford is very funny instructor, sometimes he can be off topic. His test were open book and we had few papers, but not difficult. very helpful, and nice instructor, I recommend taking his class.
He does not have any hw, only 3 papers and few test. His test are open book. I loved his class.
Dr. Ford is fantastic. He wants you to succeed. He is brilliant, kind and patient. He has the cutest laugh and shares his enthusiasm. TAKE HIS CLASSES!
Dr. Ford is not only a competent teacher, but a great person as well. His lectures are informative, clear and interesting. Though he and I disagree politically, he challenges everyone, both liberal and conservative to challenge their own beliefs. His papers are tough, but he's a fair grader. Quizzes, Homework, tests and attendace are imperative!!!
I had no interest in Economics until him. He was great. A strong Liberal who challenges republicans. Bring it on ! Absolutely great ! Talks alot, but who cares. He expects college papers but is great. I took macro and micro with him. I wish I took Pol Sci. He is a smart man ! do your work and you will succeed.
I took his class during the summer. I learned a lot from it. He is an excellent instructor and I liked the class. Tests are open book and his grading is fair. Some say he is liberal but compared to me he is a moderate! He is brilliant and funny! Gives great examples. You should MOST CERTAINLY take this class! (sorry I couldn't resist) LOL
Ford is a nice guy, but a total Neo-Marxist. Prepare for long lectures on the efficiency of government, the perils of the private sector, corporate conspriracies, and how global warming has come to punish all you dang consummers. For section 1b, share the book. It's necessary only for the final.
Dr. Ford prepare to sit and listen to him talk for a long ass time lectures are long all he does is talk. But the class is cake if you do the work. Grades easy but has his own grading scale. you need like 93+ to get an A. Dr. Ford is a interesting teacher my advise. Just raise your hand and question him makes class more fun and not as boring.
Ford is awesome. Don't listen to people who say he is too liberal. It's college, most people of a higher education are liberal. His tests are essay form but he grades generously. The term papers are a lot of work but if you stick with the class he rewards you with easier grading on the final. All around good guy.
Good teacher. Helpful, gives good lectures. All quiz's & the final are in essay form, most are open book. As long as you read the text you should do well. Although his grading scale in a bit harder(93-100% is an A)he does grade fair and drops your 2 lowest scores. Also every week you have to breifly present an article to class (worth 10%).
Nice guy and overall good teacher. It is easy to pass his class with at least B. Although I do admit he is a little biased.... if not too biased.
had him for summer school microeconomics, and he really was a great teacher. NICE guy and pretty easy.
Dr. Ford is a very generous grader, and receiving a B in his class is very easy. It is very easy to get that B, but receiving an A is extremely difficult. He stated that only 1% of students pass his class with an A. The books are unnecessary. I got away without reading one page from both of the books and I got an A. Just pay attention, and go.
I missed a lot of classes and didn't turn in a midterm paper. All quizzes are written including the final. He doesn't grade hard at all. Quizzes are open book, he basically tells you what to expect. Boring but overall easy.
The syllabus has no dates for chapters or assignments, no study guides or written hand-outs. Unclear about requirements for papers, he's changed them twice for the first paper already .a week and a half into the semester. I am crossing my fingers that I will pass this class. I am a A/B student but he has me worried. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Scared about what my grade is going to be. His grading scale isn't standard...93-100 (A) 85-92 (B) and so on. Not very clear on what he wants. He is very nice and somewhat flexible if you're unable to do a quiz. Just don't know. :(
Extremely disrespectful...I have done a great decent job on my papers, and I have had other instructors proof read my paper and yet I was unable to receive the desired grade. Don't need the book for the class but the only time its mandatory is when he gives a pop quiz...I mean seriously? Have a student get use to the text book before giving a quiz
I regret taking his class, he's unclear about assignments,he doesn't have a schedule outline. The things he talks about is quiz's along with what r in the books. The quiz's are open book but they are in essay style. he is boring to listen to and has a funny laugh. I learned some new things. his grading sucks too because a 93+ is an A.
I had Dr. Ford this fall and I didn't learn much. I had an open mind but at times felt overwhelmed by his liberal "agenda" he seemed to push and often irrelevant and unnecessary Reagan bashing. I wanted to respect his beliefs, but I found it hard when his lectures were often built on alienating views that were different from his. Please re-retire.
I enjoyed his Political Science class because he was great at instructing the class. BUT when I take his microeconomics, his class focuses in macroeconomic level rather than microeconomics. I don't understand why politics are around in this topic. THIS IS A BEGINNER'S CLASS. If you get politics involved, learning economics will be more confusing!
It was definitely one of the more challenging classes I took at Delta but the most eye opening. Dr. Ford was very approachable and helpful if one needed assistance. I talked to him about everything I had trouble with and he helped. If you are looking for a nice professor but a challenging class; I would definitely recommend this class.
He is a really good teacher if you are willing to learn. he is a great teacger abd i learned alot from him. There are two papers and one is an opinion based essay. The tests are a bit challenging but i always did WAY better then i thought I would. He is willing to answer any questions you have and you can discuss your grades with him. He is great
Great class, interesting material, funny and kind, great guy. Kind of just rants on about related topic. If you pay attention enough and understand politics and opinions then it is an easy A. For some, participation is a must, others, you only go on quiz days. I would recommend this class and to just feel it out. I personally loved this class
It would be a fortune to be his student; however, he is well experienced. He knew a lot about politics. I would love to be his student again.
I didn't like him very much. I didn't understand what he was asking for the political values paper, and had to re sumbit it 3 times. The second time I turned it in, he read the first page and wrote "not on topic" and the third time I turned it in, he literally snatched it from me. I learned nothing from this class and am not coming back.
If you like politics you'll pass. The class only consists of a couple of easy tests, 2 papers, and a final.
He's a great teacher. Lectures heavy. Take NOTES, you get to use them for quizzes.
Summer course: Great professor, boring lectures, mainly because a lot usually relates to his experiences. Quizzes and exam were open book, so I did not read and still passed the course. Did one research paper which was fairly easy, gives a long time time to work on it. Also, he likes to speak about current problems in the U.S.
As a person, I think he is a super great guy, nice and funny. I don't like this class or the way he teaches it. He assigns 1 or 2 chapters of reading per week with 'federalist paper' readings as well, but our tests have absolutely NOTHING to do with the chapters. ALSO, anything under a 78% is a D. he is one of THOSE professors.
Dr. Ford is very respectable and respects his students as well, and actually takes a vested interest in his students' learning. He is very fair, and though his grading scale is a bit different from the normal grading scale, do not let that scare you. He is accommodating and very willing to negotiate if you think you deserve a better grade on tests.
If I could give Dr. Ford a lower rating, I would. I took this class to learn about Economics, not his own political agenda. He talks about how much he does not like Donald Trump for most of the time and then he "lectures" for the last few minutes of class. Then tests us on the material he did not teach. I regret and wish I did not take this class.
He is a very liberal teacher. He is definitely one sided and should consider teaching the students both sides. He should also not focus so much on the democratic side because it doesn't help others think. Overall, not bad of a class. You can connect with him through sports. He grades very easily and wants to help you succeed in the class. 2 papers
Professor Ford is one of the best professors I have had. He is definitely biased left, so conservative students might want to be aware of that. Three tests but you can easily make up stuff from the notes and get a good grade. Also two papers... just make sure to cite sources and meet his page limit. Grading scale is super weird, but he grades easy.
I took online POLSC1. It was short, had many discussions (yay), and a few quizzes/test. The quizzes were all essay question but he graded very easy. He's quite liberal, but supports all views as long as they are ethical/supported with evidence. Very great teacher, I loved the class.
Super chill! Only one heave assignment term paper but you are given ample time to complete Quizzes every other week- 3 questions that are 30 points each Discussions every week, but you still get half points for not doing it
Worst professor I have ever had in my life. He is extremely condescending and belittling to students if they dont understand his confusing assignments and what he is expecting of them. Told my classmate that she was stupid and she dropped the class. He always seems put out to answer questions and dont even try to go against his beliefs/opinions.
Good luck taking him. Don't do it unless you need to his quizzes are essays and are ridiculously hard. His paper is a nightmare so do it early. The guy himself is really kind and if you appeal to him he might change your grade but be careful. You have to stay on top of your work and don't get on his bad side. His grading scale is horrid by the way.
I enjoyed the way he taught the class, but I would have preferred a bit more feedback on the assignments. The grading and rubric were clear, but the class is entirely based on thoughtful discussion and essays, and he didn't provide a single personal response to anything. It was a bit anxiety-producing.
I love this professor! His take on Economics is up to date with the times, and not outdated like other econ professors I've taken classes from before. He could stand to provide a little more feedback on the assignments, but what he did provide was helpful, and I felt I learned a lot from the class, without having an excessive amount of work.
He tells you to get the books but you can just download them because he makes notes for the class to read. Participation matters, and read the rubrics attached to the assignments. Remain neutral on most assignments (he favors facts over opinions) and be productive, and check grammar and you'll be okay.
Very loving
I don't recommend him personally. His quizzes are essays and are very hard. I am not even halfway through the semester and he hasn't even given me anything close to an A on his quizzes. He does discussions every week. His paper is extremely hard and time consuming, definitely get a big head start. I would not take this class again. Hard grader.
Personally, I liked the professor but if I have to spend 5 minutes during every test simply to understand the question, I basically winged it anytime I took a quiz/test, Be confident with your answer. Do every discussion AHEAD of time, he'll mark off points if you don't participate multiple times during DIFFERENT DAY. ex. Tu:rely, W: peer response
Honestly, the workload is not terrible. If you're not really into economics or even really know anything about it, it might be a little tough. He does have video lectures to watch but the course includes a 10-page paper and several quizzes. His quizzes are a little tough and he's also a tough grader.
falsely accused me of cheating, had to go through the dean of the school just to clear my name. he still did not believe he was in the wrong even after the problem was resolved. do not take, lots of work especially if busy w other classes.
He finds difficulty in simple addition so don't expect your grade to be accurate. He similarly finds difficulty in structuring sentences in proper English in assignments as well as emails, which can make taking his exams seem like a mental obstacle course. I would be surprised if you can get an A on any quiz.
He's a really tough and insensitive professor.
I wish I had never taken this class. I have never received a bad grade and this was the lowest grade I had before I had to drop my first class. He is NOT good at giving feedback. He's not helpful, and he's very picky. I had the class online and he's heavy with discussions in an abnormal amount. If you don't want to be depressed, don't take him.
If there were a lower rating for this Professor, I would rate it a few times. He's heavy on the discussions and grading. (200-point) mid-term paper, along with discussions on top of it. Heavy on every lecture & no makeup work so don't expect it to be easy. He wants to be the only smart guy in Political Science lol so prepare yourself to be mad.
Professor is okay, instructions to any assignment & are quizzes are difficult to understand. the paper was interesting though. Made me learn about the topic I researched. good feedback on the paper and quizzes. Lectures he posts have incorrect subtitles which is makes it difficult to understand. Overall okay professor, but I don't recommend taking.
Took this as HS dual enrollment. Knowledgeable and educational if you have no-experience in Polisci. Easy discussion posts. Difficult essay quizzes. Final paper was a nightmare, start VERY early. Impossible to cheat or use AI in class. He will fail you under SLIGHT suspicion of cheating. Free textbook&lectures. only take this class if last resort.
He always added information that was not needed for the course, which was confusing. He was also not very helpful when questions were asked.
He graded fairly, but he does make you write a lot and use outside sources with your work. He prefers facts over opinion and if you do opinion you will loose points. He gives a LOT of reading, he has 6 quizzes but they are essay formatted instead of multiple choice.Other than that he is passionate, responds fast, and is their for any questions.
Cons: 7-page essay due before mid-semester & is only mentioned once before its due & is hidden in 1 sentence in syllabus, so don't forget. You will likely be accused of AI. Keep evidence of your paper/answer edits. Class structure is not clear & will confuse you. If you have questions, he won't answer. Pro: he's smart & educated & econ is fun.
Class took up more time than any of my other classes. Had a discussion every week. Quizzes were about every month or so in a 3-4 question essay format. Paper will be easy if you start MONTHS before. Accused me and my peers of AI (even though we didn't) so we got a grade poorer than usual. Extremely harsh grader. Good luck because you'll need it.
Out of all of my college classes I have taken so far, this class has been a sore. There are two discussions every week which are bare minimum, but are graded harshly and very opinionated topics/questions. Quiz's were also harshly graded. You have an ex amount of time to answer the questions and accusations of AI when suspicious. Start paper early.
His instructions for discussions and feedback are honestly confusing, I always have to turn to AI and tell it to “dumb it down” for me to understand what hes asking for. Honestly just do your work and you'll pass. Theres a 4 page short paper and a 7 page paper later on so if ur a procrastinator, I wouldn't recommend this class. He grades harshly.
Theres a 4 page paper and later on 7 page paper which is HELL. His tests are also written responses NOT multiple choice with a time limit. He would ask 200 word minimum for each question on tests with a difficult confusing prompt/question with time limit of 1 hour. I wouldnt even get to finish my tests cause of the time limit. TAKE ANOTHER TEACHER
This Econ class is hard because the professor always thinks we use AI, even when we don't, and he doesn't fix the grades even when we prove it. He also grades really tough and takes off points for everything. It's been a stressful class.
Do NOT take prof ford. He always accuses AI usage and rarely tends to make adjustments even after being disproved. test times are absurd; never enough time as all tests are 6(ish) questions written response 200-400 words with citation needed on his modules along with a short time limit leading peers unable to finish in time. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Horrible He "doesn't believe in multiple choice" because he was good at guessing when he was younger, so EVERY SINGLE TEST was writing a mini essay on the clock Each question was a whole paragraph that needed 5 minutes just to decipher what he was asking and it is so vague He is a horrible teacher DO NOT TAKE HIM UNLESS YOU HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE
The professor was very strict and gave too much work with not enough time. He posted a 6-page essay and a 1,500-word quiz only two days before they were due. It was overwhelming and poorly managed. I recommend picking a different professor if you want fair deadlines and better organization.
Instructions are not clear, comments don't make sense. Will randomly remove points without explanation
SJDC should require English 2A based on Ford's strict grading/expectations, or he shouldn't teach ECON 3. Student writing is expected to be graduate-level, research-intensive, and composition-heavy, with full APA research papers, abstracts, and footnotes. Ironically English 1A/B doesn't fully prepare students for this 3-unit introductory GE course.
Professor Ford provides rambling, poorly produced and dated/old lectures in addition to a lot of textbook reading. There are so many tests and discussions, all requiring a lot of writing. There is also a big paper at the end. Many of the tests are NOT on subject matter in the lectures or textbook, I found the class to feel disjointed.
Only take Prof Ford if you want an F. His lectures are out dated and confusing and it makes sense why he hasn't had a single 5 star review since 2022. He will 100% accuse you of using AI even if you didn't and when disproven he still gives you a penalty. All of his assignments are long writings and their is no multiple choice questions.
I guarantee taking this class will make you depressed and extremely stressed in every way possible you can work extremely hard on all his assignments and he will accuse you of AI usage. I've needed to dumb down my writing just so he wont accuse me of AI he is TERRIBLE DO NOT TAKE HIM! worst professor ive ever had
The worst professor to ever take. His modules and tests do not make sense and he accuses you of using AI even if you don't. He only gives you just over an hour to do some tests when you clearly need way more than that. The worst professor ever. Please avoid him at all costs.
The professor is alright but the reading is quite hefty ton of reading, Also prepare yourself for 2 midterms and a term paper thats 10 pages. I would recommend but at the same time don't since he grades very tough. Aside From that, he's alright I guess. Lastly, READ READ READ the modules and Models in this course and follow rubric.
