Brother Fox is awesome!! I would take his class again in a heartbeat! You will learn a lot and he is very fair in the way he grades. One of the best teachers I have ever had.
James Fox is very close to his students. He promptly answers his e-mails and give feedback.
Brother Fox, really enjoys teaching and it shows. Very compassionate about the subject and the student. He knows his business and you can tell that he deals with this subject in all that he teaches. Great professor. Would take him again if he taught another subject.
I was grateful for the feedback for assignments. I also enjoyed the weekly direction on assignments. Sometimes this was more than once a week. Also, we have the opportunity to connect with other students in a study group. Although, this was tough at first to connect, we were able to use Google Hangouts and it has been a success.
Br. Fox is a great teacher. He offers sound critique to submitted papers. Expects you to do the work, is open to dialog. He listens when you need to talk to him. He was slow to respond only once. (It took 2 weeks to answer a question I emailed on a Wednesday, getting back to me 2 weeks later on Thursday.) Otherwise - Excellent, caring instructor!
I had been told this was an easy A class. I discovered in the first week that I was expected to perform and more importantly, LEARN. I've done both and grown to respect and appreciate Professor Fox. He gets a thumbs up from me.
He was a great teacher, whenever I had issues I could email him and he would email back in a timely manner and help me with my concerns.
James Fox is a great instructor. He has encourage our class all semester. He always explain what is expected from the assignments and give great feedback that will help you to grow and learn.
I really enjoyed this class. I was able to learn a lot. This class itself is not extremely difficult, all you have to do is put in the time and effort and you will pass.
Although he has a busy schedule, he does respond in a timely manner. He allows the student to work things out within themselves but is always monitoring to ensure he can provide guidance at that critical time. I also found he is willing to work with the students because I feel he understands that we all have busy schedules as well.
He was good at giving feedback. I could tell he cares about his students. He wants students to succeed. If I had a problem, I would email him. Sometimes he was slow to respond, but he did give me an answer I could live with. He is a little slow on grading.
He cares that we participate ad learn from our peers
Easy going and fixed any grade mistakes from the computer.
I really liked this class, I didnt get the grade I wanted, but i got the grade i deserved. Because I was pregnant while taking the class I found it difficult at times to keep up with the reading and discussion boards. These count for a lot in the long run. Brother Fox really tried to work with me and would be lenient in accepting late work.
Bro Fox is a great teacher. He reaches out to students and does all he can to help them.
I really enjoyed Brother Fox. The class has a lot of busy work that you would find in an actual office setting, so most of it is applicable to the coursework. Brother Fox is kind, accommodating, and gives great feedback and encouragement to his students. I would take another class from him.
Be prepared for your study group discussions. You have to meet via Skype or Hangouts or some other form of media each week. Pick a time that you can always make it to. There is a lot of reading, but overall it is a very informational class.
I find the feed back he gives on assignments helpful. I really enjoy the study groups. It helps to talk to other online students in the same class, he did a great job matching everyone up. The book feels a little outdated. More coaching on resumes would be helpful.
Sometimes, it takes him a little long to grade, but he is very professional and provides you with tools to help you become a professional too.
I think Brother Fox really cares about his students. He takes a little while to respond to emails sometimes, but he travels a lot for work so it is understandable. He gives really encouraging and constructive feedback. I would take a class from him again.
It was really hard to do the Application Assignments but I think that is not his doing. I think it is the program or course.
Lot's of reading!!!!! He gives some feedback with some of the grades. Quizzes are open book but timed ( not enough time) and there is a lot to remember from the reading. Most of the homework comes out of the book, but there is also good stuff to help you get ready to look for a career.
This is a good teacher and a good class, however there are a lot of assignments per week.
Honestly, it was a great class, I always felt that James Fox responded to my questions and my emails. I never had to wait to know what was going on.
He pays lots of attention to detail. He is good at making you feel like you are already in the rpofessional field.
He was always ready to answer to questions. He answered them quickly. On all assignments he gave great feedback that has helped me improve.
I like how he reminds the class that the way we interact with our professors and the way we approach our course work is similar to working for an employer. I think there needs to be better online discussion group questions and follow up questions to respond to that will provide better discussion within the groups.
I loved taking Office Procedures for the 21st Century from Brother Fox! The material in this class is needed in your career and even your home life . Normally I dislike group discussions in online classes, but the material he has us discuss in them is actually really helpful and enjoyable! Every assignment has a purpose and the class isn't hard.
Brother Fox was a good teacher. He left good feedback and was very fair in his grading. He had fun class announcements. He was sometimes a bit slow with responding to discussion board questions, but I know he traveled a bit for his job. The class however was not my favorite, by any means. Lots of busy work and a bit boring. I'm glad to be done.
He was a great teacher. He answered questions. I think sometimes we had to wait a little long to get answers to our questions but his answers were clear and concise.
I liked his feedback, it help me to improve my task.
Brother Fox has the class outlined well. The schedule is well laid out. If there have been any questions, he has been readily available either through the discussion board or email. He motivates the class by continually posting announcements that either motivate or give more detail into the assignment for that week.
He gives good feedback and is very caring and accessible.
This is a great class. Mr. Fox is fair and will let you know if you forgot something. The only thing is that I wish he would answer more questions on the discussion board. It is hard to continue working when you don't have a response.
The changing of the assignments for the Employment Portfolio has been a bit confusing because although I read all announcements I have missed the little details regarding this assignment category. I am now printing out the assignments or taking notes in my planner for the course. The announcements that are posted - include details and guidance.
Overall the class is pretty easy, most of the stuff is all common sense based, which I find to be the only downside, because I prefer a little more of a challenge. We meet in groups once a week to discuss topics, its a great time to learn for your classmates and hear and learn from their insight, and I do look forward to that part of the course.
He's great! He does expect you to do your own thinking and not need to be lead through every assignment, but he's happy to help if you have questions. He expects you to learn as you go, so within a few weeks of class, he'll expect good formatting on assignments. He's very good about communicating through the announcement board, so don't skip that!
I really enjoyed this class. Taught you many life skills as to how to work with management and applying for jobs. Lots of reading and lots of quizzes but nothing too hard. Just stay on top of thing and you will be fine in the class.
A bit challenging and tedious, but not too bad.
The layout of the class is decided by someone else in this online class. Brother Fox has done a great job clarifying and fixing someone else's mistakes. The class has been great and he has done a great job at communicating.
This class was a little difficult to get your mind into at the beginning and sometimes varied from the prepopulated online instructions, so you had to read his notes page pretty carefully to make sure you were complying with the revised assignments. His changes could use a little more clarity. He recognized that sometimes life happens.
The class is wonderful. Lots of reading. There is a Study Group you will be placed in. The only things that was frustrating, it would take a while until your assignments were graded and not too much feedback on your assignments. I would like a lot more feedback so I know where I can improve, otherwise James Fox is a great teacher.
Brother Fox requires extra effort and asks for complete projects with headers on every paper. Realistic grader. He doesn't communicate very well.
I have really appreciated how the professor has the class work together. The feedback that we are receiving from classmates has increased my need to study the coursework so that I am providing good feedback to others. I have learned to read the Announcements to really get a sense of what is expected but more important, the great inspiration!
I truly enjoyed taking this class, it has helped to improve areas where I thought I was doing well, but I was instructed and reminded of the important things to do and act upon when working on an office environment. I find that this professor was right on point with the material, helpful and easy to contact for additional help.
Requires a discussion board group AND a study group- two different groups! You meet with your study group once a week via the internet. He posts an inspirational quote every Sunday, which is nice. Complete headers on papers are a must! Feedback on assignments- sometimes good and sometimes lacking. Assignment changes are frequent but info posted.
Bro Fox is an exceptional teacher. He gives you the grade that you have earned. Doesn't play favorites. If you have a problem and you share it, he'll work with you. Tells you to take some time. I wish I could have Bro Fox as my instructor for all my classes on-line. He is an amazingly wonderful teacher who teaches with the spirit. You Rock!
I really appreciate his feedback asking me to clarify my paper so he can see why I submitted incorrectly one assignment. Giving me a change to make a change before the final grade.
Brother Fox is a great teacher :) Generally I get quick replies from him when I ask him a question and good feedback which lets me know why I lost marks when I do. :) I really like the class, Ienjoy the study group meetings each week. I'm learning lots :) I also kind of enjoy the textbook, its not super boring/hard to read which makes it easier :)
Great feedback from him. Grades quickly also.
Great class, LOTS of reading. Assignments are straightforward.
He posts announcements several times a week to keep everyone informed. Need to keep up on the announcements as there may be schedule changes.
Gives great feedback, but his expectations were not straight forward from the begging start of the class (Although he was flexible with the first few assignments). I would have appreciated more clarification that the employment portfolio directions were on the announcement board rather than Ilearn directions.
I enjoy Brother Fox's announcements. Each week he has his announcements online and ready to be read before 5:00 AM when I start my homework. I really appreciate him being ahead of the game so I know exactly what is expected before I get started on Monday morning. He responds to emails in a timely manner and answers the questions clearly.
Brother Fox writes specific and proper feedback, and this helped me to improve my assignments. For instance, in my study group assignments, he was clear to tell me to include a professional header, but I didnt realize of that on the beginning. He was patient with me becuase he wrote the same feedback for three times until to improve this part.
Brother Fox is a great Professor. He has helped me when I have been struggling and he is not afraid to change the assignments for the benefit of the students. I have discovered this course to be very time consuming, and while I wouldn't take this course again, I would definitely take another course taught by Brother Fox. He will help you.
Extensive knowledge and experience base providing a great resource ready to assist you to achieve success in your chosen field. Dynamic effective curriculum keeps you attentive to detail in the preparation of fast-paced employment. You want the best preparation for your future, take this class!
Great teacher, encouraging and helpful with material. Understanding of life happening (goes a long way in my book!). I have only one suggestion, more feedback on the Employment Portfolio assignments would be helpful!
It is a lot of work if you have never created a website before. I have enjoyed this class so far.
I have no complaints about Brother Fox. Sometimes, I felt frustrated, but that is good practice for real-life settings. (You don't want a super easy teacher, or you'll cry when you get a real job.) Overall, I would recommend him!
Great instructor. Hard to rate in an online class but easy to get a hold of and graded quickley, if that helps.
Brother Fox answer our doubts and questions. He is a though grader but always explain to me my mistakes. I dont like group projects but he was trying to made we work like a team.
I love the Sunday thoughts and inspirational messages. I would like a little bit more teacher to student participation.
Professionalism is very important to him, but he tells you that upfront and so long as you take the time to do your best and be professional, you'll be fine.
I love his posts, he is very instructive, creative and teaches with so much love. This is a very time demanding class, and james Fox makes it entertaining and easy to carry.
I enjoy seeing what 'Sunday thought' will be posted in the Announcements every week. I think the best teachers know their material, but they also know a lot about the process. They have at their disposal a repertoire of instructional methods and strategies, Believe in the power of the process to determine student learning outcomes.
Kind and truly cares about students. He wants each student to understand material.
I appreciatte the clear instructions Brother Fox gives us on the Announcements about what and how we need to do some assignments every week, specially if there are cahanges like the changes in our Employment Portfolio assignment. It is clear to understand his comments. Brother Fox also use good examples and inspirational quotes every week.
Inspirational when interacting with students. Has a wealth of knowledge of the subject. One thing to be mindful of is that professionalism counts heavily for this instructor. Be cautious to allow enough time to complete projects may take longer than anticipated.
I want another student to know and note that reading and understanding the rubric is especially important in these classes.
Brother Fox is a great professor. He is tough with grades but also clear about expectations. I think if you look beyond tough grading from him to improve your work, your grade will naturally fall in place as is in my case.
Professor Fox was a tough grader. However, this made me more focused on the rubric; I felt motivated and inspired to work harder and to do better. Professor Fox's teaching style was encouraging and motivating with additional inspiring spiritual quotes on Sundays. The material was explained well, clear and direct and it wasn't confusing.
While we didn't have clear interactions, the grading was more specific than other instructors. Would've liked to see examples of how it was done right to understand how to better apply the feedback.
He gave great feedback!
Work hard. Don't submit any hw late or else there's no coming back from it.
Professor Fox did a great job at giving important feedback and was always available and communicating updates to the class each week.
I enjoyed having him as my teacher this semester !
He is a great Teacher. easy to talk to and reach out when you need help.
Overall, a great Professor!
Was a hard grader for what the class was. Sometimes the grades given did not make much sense to me, especially for the group projects. Always gave detailed feedback but it was lengthy. I personally think it would be easier to read and digest if he had given shorter explanations. All of that aside, you can tell that he really cares.
He was a fantastic teacher through out the semester.God bless .
This teacher gives a precise grading because it directly relates to the rubric. Also, he gives you follow-ups on your assignments at different times, asking for relevant aspects to make it clear or learn from your work. Finally, you will receive an explanation of each week's assignment and some encouraging words in the announcements.
This Professor has attention to detail. gives good instructions and direction.
He is great in providing feedback
Professor Fox is very diligent and I really like how he pays attention to details. His feedbacks gave me desire to always go deeper into my studies.
In general, Professor Fox is a committed teacher with high expectations from his students.
Best teacher ever !!!
Heads up! This professor knows about this page and gives extra credit to students who leave reviews. Honestly? He's fine. Not my favorite but not my least favorite prof. He's a stickler of a grader, but communicative, and easy to work with if you have concerns.
Mr. Fox was a great instructor, and I learned much about cultural communication. It would have been nice to have a full week for the last week verses ending on a Wednesday with the same number of assignments due.
Good luck if you make this a professor in your course!
I went out of the country for two weeks during this course and this professor was very understanding and easy to work with. He can be a little tough on grading compared to other teachers but that would be my only "complaint" about him. Some of the assignments are also a little confusing but if you look at the rubric it becomes clearer.
Brother Fox is an excellent instructor with a deep understanding of intercultural communication. His communication skills are outstanding, he responds to emails quickly and provides detailed, constructive feedback that has helped me improve. His support helped me stay motivated and continue the class during a difficult experience.Great instructor
I agree that Professor Fox is a bit of a harsh grader. This actually isn't too bad; I like a professor that is harsher with grading because they tend to be more honest and not let mistakes slide. However, he rarely gives actual criticism or reasons for taking off points, and I also noticed that he didn't distinguish between AI and normal work.
Rubric was vague and hard to have clear instructions on assignments. Professor gave good feedback on graded material, but was a hard grader and didn't really explain why points were withheld (though it could be because the rubrics were so vague). Professor replies were short and not too explanatory.
Grading seemed arbitrary and didn't necessarily follow the rubric. Feedback wasn't always helpful, as it didn't explain how to improve or achieve full points on the assignments. The course material was interesting and I learned a lot through the reading. However, some of the assignments felt a little redundant at the end.
He responds kindly to non-grade concerns, but gives unclear feedback when asked about low grades. He may praise your work yet still deduct points without clear reasoning. When questioned, he'll say your grade is “good.” Expect lower grades overall, as he seems to grade on a curve despite saying he doesn't.
My frustration was the grading. It was very subjective. To earn full points, you have to "Exceed Expectations." However, those are his expectations, not the rubric, which is really hard to know. I felt like I was focused more on meeting his expectations & trying to figure out why and how he graded versus learning the material.
I appreciate that he has high expectations for his students because it pushed me to work a little harder, but as others have said, sometimes those expectations are unclear and seem unattainable. The feedback was not very specific and there was a lot of reading, but I did enjoy the class overall.
COMM390 was one of my most frustrating classes at Ensign College, mainly due to poorly written rubrics with vague terms like "thorough" and "exceptional." This led to unclear expectations, inconsistent grading, and constant confusion. It shifted focus from learning to guessing what the instructor wanted. Overall, it was a disappointing experience
Professor Fox is a fantastic instructor! He really listens, which shows he cares about his student's success. Even though it was a difficult term for me personally, he made the course enjoyable, and he was supportive till the end. Thank you, Professor Fox.
One important thing for future students to know is that you will need to do a lot of reading each week based on the links provided in the course. It's important to complete all the readings and answer every part of the assignment questions according to the rubric. Brother Fox grades very closely based on the rubric criteria.
READ THE ASSIGNMENTS AND ASK QUESTIONS
He loves posting announcements even if it is not related to our lessons, which I appreciated! His announcements was for him to connect with his students.
I would have appreciated if the instructions were clear, most of the time they were confusing
Unfortunaetly, this course was more of a guessing game than a course. It took me and my groups lots of time each week to guess what we were supposed to do as the instuctions were extremly unclear, confused and did many times not at all align with the rubrics. This led to unclear expectations, inconsistent grading, and constant confusion.
The assignment instructions were clear. Professor Fox was attentive and kind to any questions or concerns that arose. Similarly, his feedback was invaluable and offered words of encouragement. Professor Fox was a good instructor in this course.
Professor is pretty cool! I liked that once we found something we both liked we bonded even though the class online. Professor is fair in his grading and I like that!
Always thinking on the students feedback and improvement!
Committed professor.
Brother Fox is awesome. I am a visual learner, and I enjoyed his announcements because they all included visuals that helped me understand what was expected of me.
He is very inspirational
Brother Fox is a dedicated and inspiring lecturer who teaches with clarity, empathy, and a faith-centered approach. His lessons are engaging, practical, and full of valuable insights that can be applied in real life.
Having Professor Fox as an instructor has truly helped me grow, not only academically, but also as an individual. They created an environment where learning felt meaningful and personal. He was always there when I needed help, as this was a class much tougher than I was expecting! Lora Lee Moore
Brother Fox is an amazing professor. His feedback is always thoughtful and motivating. He values creativity, effort, and sincerity. The readings were fascinating and full of meaning. Every lesson felt connected to real life. This class truly inspired me to keep learning and to become better in my future career and personal life.
This professor is very attentive and maintains excellent communication skills. He encourages his students constantly.
1. Lots of unnecessary announcements. 2. Heavy reading that wasn't always helpful, had to do a lot of additional research on my own to understand concepts. 3. Convoluted assignment instructions that are hard to follow, difficult to interpret, often vague about expectations, and sometimes inconsistent with rubrics and teacher instructions.
Professor Fox encouraged class discussion and created a supportive learning environment, which helped me stay engaged and motivated. His feedback on assignments was constructive and insightful, allowing me to improve my skills and understanding of the course material.
High grading standards are great. However, class feels disorganized. Instructions & rubrics are unclear, w/ no examples provided. Expectations change after grading, & creativity is judged subjectively. Didn't learn much. Clearer directions, consistency, & FEWER announcements, please! Instructor's level of control & ambiguity is over the top.
Any time I had a question, he answered in a timely manner. The content of the class was interesting and easy to follow.
Brother Fox has been a great professor in almost all respects. He is quick to answer questions and respond to communications from students. The two small issues I had with his class were (1) It is very difficult to get full points on any assignment, and (2) His specific expectations for assignments weren't always clear.
He wants you to succeed but holds you to an above-average standard. No staying in the "just getting by is good enough" mentality, but be willing to put in more effort than in other classes.
He's fun even posting jokes from time to time. I enjoyed his world view. Instructions for assignments were sometimes off from requirements in the rubric so watch the rubric.
The professor respects excellent work with details .
He was great. Straight to the point, wants his students to learn and succeed.
Professor Fox is not just a subject matter expert, but also a dedicated and passionate teacher. His clarity stems from a deep understanding of his field and a genuine commitment to pedagogical skill. His ability to foster both understanding and intellectual curiosity is a hallmark of his professional excellence.
Brother Fox was extremely didactic and fun to teach the course material. Always open-minded, he celebrated creativity and students' initiative. He applied the course material to the gospel. He had a fun and new way to teach or post an announcement about resources and learning. Made it current and approachable. He is inspiring and motivating!
He is a teacher who shows interest in his students, motivates them, and looks for ways to support them.
