Internet coll. algebra. Emails can be confusing. Feedback is minimal when asking for assistance. The syllabus changed, showing lack of planning (we studied areas we did not have to). Seemed like an add-on course for him. Poorly taught, avoid.

this guy is HORRIBLE!!! i am serious. he is by far the worst teacher i have ever had in my life and Meremac needs to fire this guy. He's an army veteran so he's very thick headed...if you can, avoide this SOB
Wow... what can I say, he sucks... he's not helpful at all... he's NEVER in his office and yea, he needs to be fired.
what a JERK. Awful "teacher". Rude, unhelpful, condescending. Alters school requirements and makes them more difficult. AVOID.
He is the worst teacher I have ever had....he does not explain anything. Although he encourages you to ask questions, he humiliates you for not knowing how to do what you were asking. My grade point average is screwed and I will most likely need to retake this class. He shouldnt be able to teach!
Mr. Frost is very approachable. If you do the homework in a timely manner and ask questions you will do just fine. Even though I will not get an A, I feel very confident about doing well in my next algebra class.
Thanks to this guy, I had to take elementary algebra over again. The rumors are true he will make you look like a jackass for asking a question, and his own set of rules are ridiculous. Mr. Frost should have been fired along time ago.
I found that he was very good as long as you did the work. I went to his office many times and he was always there and willing to work through any problems that I had. If you do not do the work, he does not baby you. He is difficult, but if you do the work, you will be ready for next math course
I was at first told that he was a horrible teacher but I disregarded it and gave him the benefit of the doubt. Boy was I EVER wrong. He gets off into tangents, switches back and forth from problems and never fully explains how to do them. He will make you feel like an idiot for asking a question
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE! he makes you feel like an idiot anytime you ask a question and does not explain anything!! he is very very fast and unclear! his tests are ridiculously long and he does not give near enout time to finish them! never ever take him!!!!
I'll have to admit, he's a very tough teacher. If you're a lazy student, you're in the wrong class. Most people don't like him because he doesn't spoonfeed you the answers. Read the book and try to do homework and you'll do alright.
very unhelpful, doen't grade fairly, does not show how to do problems in class and expects you to know how to do it his way when he didn't show you how,
i always fall a sleep
He is the worst teacher that i have ever had...he should not be teaching this class give him calc...or something like that cause he sucks...big time...he is too smart for his own damn good and makes us feel like we dont know anything...HE NEEDS TO BE FIRED!!!!!!!
if you dont(insert topic of question here), then your not an A student
Although the class itself could have been easy, Mr. Frost definitley doesn't help out with that. Frost is actually very unhelpful and grouchy and I dreaded going to class every day. If you can, steer clear of his classes.
I took the computer-aided section of his class. I'm not sure why he was even there. He didn't help AT ALL. He seems to be pissed off all the time and takes it out on whatever student gets in his face that day. If you have a question, don't ask him. Not only will he not answer it, he'll make you feel stupid for asking in the first place.
I had him for two semesters (intermediate and college alg.). He is a bad teacher. You have to make him THINK that you like the class, then he'll be a little more flexible with your grade. If you do all of the homework problems, you'll be fine on the test. Just learn the way you like it, and don't listen to HIM, or you'll be confused! I still got A
he is the worst teacher. i had him for two semesters and i wasted my time and money. he is always late too.
he doesn't explain what he is trying to teach very well. if you ask a question, he doesn't really answer it, and then moves on.
I was scared out of my wits after the first class, but I learned a lot and gradually ended up enjoying the class a lot. Mr. Frost takes some getting used to, but he's not a terrible ogre as some would have you believe. He's not easy on the students, and he expects people to do the work they are assigned. A pretty good teacher overall.
undescriable, unbeleivable amazing,,, OH GOD what am i saying the guy sucks like HELL.
Not a bad or great teacher. Cares about his students. Him and I didn't see eye to eye but he went out of his way to make sure I understood the material.
The reason his name is frost is because his heart is cold and he has no compassion!!!! if you are stuck with him follow these steps 1. do every section of hw every night. 2. stay quiet in class. 3. go to his office and ask questions there (suck up). he wont tell you how to prepare for ANY test, including final. yeah worst teacher EVER!!!!
My class started out full, and by the end of the semester there were only 8 students left including me. I got an F in the class because he makes it so hard. Don't ask questions because he doesn't give you an answer and he makes you feel stupid for asking. I took this class again with another teacher and I got an A. Avoid him!!!
very fast
Took him for computer-aided pre-algebra & floated into his next 2 classes. If you work hard, he is awesome. I was always polite to him, and he was always polite and very sweet to me. Any time I had any question, he was able to explain it right away in a way I could understand. As far as I can tell, he is great, at least for comp-aided classes :)
At least five minutes late every day, then let us out at least five minutes late every day. VERY boring... hard to pay attention to and is not very good at explaining material nor preparing us for tests. only reason i passed is because i memorized the final study guide. STAY AWAY!!!
The worst professor that I have ever had!
To save some other poor souls,i might attend the first class of all his sections and strongly warn them of the danger that lurks ahead!Stay far away!Tests only have 10 to 12 questions,6 of which you can't remember ever seeing or hearing about. He's late to class every time and holds you over.Couldnt teach a monkey how to eat a banana!
rude an not helpful at all. He will make fun of your answers if they are wrong . Do not take any of his classes!!!!!
DONT take him! He is so rude... if you ask a question in class he will tell you to look it up yourself. He moves way to fast and moves on before anyone understants. Almost half the class had to withdrawl by midterms.
In his mind, you are a little chipmunk that he cant wait to squeeze under his legs and crush you. Of course all that comes after a little of humiliation and some heart breaking words.
James Frost is the worst teacher ever! He does not explain things, he does not teach well, and he is in his own little world. If your looking for a teacher DO NOT GET HIM!!
Very hard teacher, if you have questions he will answer you and help you. he does come on crapy and scary. he didnt like me very much and didnt help me much at all I would get a different teacher before taking him! If he doesnt like you he never will.
mr frost failed me, i got an A in the math class before this, his homework is all online and its not worth anything for your grade. he is the worst possible teacher in the world and if you are in his class i recommend you get out!!
i had frost for the computor section. he doesnt baby you. he wants you to try it first before you ask for help. if you do the work, work hard and show that you want to do the work he will help you. i got a B and i am very bad at math
I am usually an a-b student. I failed this class, basicly because he decided he hated me. I would ask questions and he would look at me like im an idiot. Math isn't my favorite subject but I have never failed a class until him. If you can pick another teacher or be in a different class I would suggest it.. he is terrible!!
Tough Teacher. I find myself laughing a lot in his class, he is hilarious, but he is not the greatest teacher. Follows the guidelines of the committee and doesn't bother making his own. I would say take this class if you have very good math skills and need to polish them up a little before calc, and you want to have a good time. He is VERY Funny...
The worst possible math teacher!!! He doesn't really teach, he tells you how to do the work without showing you how to do the work. If there is anyone who needs this math class make sure you don't take HIS class. He is absolutly the worst teacher I have ever had.
No doubt Mr. Frost is a hard teacher. In order to be successful in his class you have to come prepared. He likes it when student come during office hours for questions. With Meramec's math tutoring, Frost's office hours, and the Precalc SI Leader there is no excuse no to do well.
I kind of liked Mr. Frost personally. He is a character, a funny and interesting guy. But he talks way too fast, his homework assignments are worth practically nothing, and he doesn't exert any control over his class. The kids run roughshod over him and it can be very distracting. Not a good prof to have if Math is not a strong point.
He skips steps when writing out the notes and goes to fast. We had Mymathlab online homework and I constantly had to email him about assigning h.w. or quizzes.. Very disorganized! One positive note is that he is a flexible grader typically on tests. Usually each question is worth 7 pts and he will give you partial credit. Final big part of your gra
honestly have nothing negative to say about him. he is a fantastic instructor who constantly pushes his students to think critically about what they read. guys dont listen to other students because they are suck on math and they expect to find it easy. in general math classes dont depend on instructors, thus if you are stupid then dont blame others
You know, the class isn't that difficult, it's just you're going to have to learn everything on your own. Mr. Frost knows the material but he cannot relate any of it to the students. I do not recommend taking the class if you're looking to pursue math and especially not if you struggle with math
While unclear at times, Mr. Frost gives test that are tailored to what he taught and he grades very easily (tons of partial credit). If you do the homework, you will do well in this class. Mr. Frost can really help if you listen to him.
Worst teacher I've had at Meramec. He is very funny and I have a good time in class, but he can't teach. He moves very fast, does not fully explain how to do problems, and is very unclear. He asks for questions but never actually answers them. You can do well but you're going to have to learn on your own.
He was not very approachable and I didn't feel like he really wanted to help. People would ask questions on how to do something and he would say I'll get to it later and never would
If you want to be respected by Mr. Frost, then you should also respect him. He doesn't like your phone out and he will take points off your next test if he catches you more than once. He is not as bad as everyone here makes him sound however I do think that he teaches pretty fast. A good thing about him is that he does give lots of partial credit.
Enjoyed his class. Was pre-algebra, so I was pretty happy to be done with it. Very helpful.
Do not take this teachers class! He is very rude and does not want to help students. I have never had a teacher of this poor quality. I'm sure the school has received many complaints about this guy, but has not done anything about it. Consider yourself warned.
Taking Jim Frost for college algebra over the summer was both a waste of my time and money. He barely knows what he's doing and has to be corrected 2-3 times each class. You better hope someone in your class knows college algebra better than he does, or you will find that Mr. frost is all over the place and teaches incorrectly. "Any questions?Good"
Not a good teacher! Goes very quickly and expects the class to know stuff we didn't go over. He has a very odd grading system with some questions being worth as much a 7 points and some as low as 2. He gives partial credit which helped out. He is sarcastic and is extremely strict about his cell phone policy. I would not recommend him at all!
Frost is eh. If I didn't take this class in high school before taking his class I would have failed. The way he teaches is horrible, and I even enjoy math. He is a hard test grader you have to show your work the way he taught you, which is the hard way.
I took this class over summer and it was hard but if you pay attention and take notes and do homework you will likely pass. He is funny and spastic but paying attention is very important he went fast very fast since it was 8 weeks but he is still very clear. He was a great teacher but not if you arent interested or not paying attention.
Awful. Awful. Awful. Worst teacher I have ever had.
He is a tough grader but can help when asked for. He teaches through powerpoint so the class becomes quite boring. Take his class if you are ready to see bad grades on your test!
I'd advice any future student of his to visit him if they don't understand, or see the math tutors. They're extremely helpful in explaining whatever you're confused about
Very disorganized teacher. Pretty disappointed with his class, and the tests are extremely difficult.
He knows what he's talking about but cannot convey information to save his life.
He's a very tough grader on tests. He is bad at explaining anything in the lecture. He doesn't do any problems from the homework to show you what the homework is going to be like. He expects a lot of homework, and some not even relevant to math. I don't recommend him to someone who is new to this material. Don't take unless you want to fail!
While this professor was a hard grader, I learned so much from his class! It was an online class, but when I needed help, he was right there! If you are prepared for the test, and you follow the directions, this class is much easier. I really like his attitude toward math, and he helped me develop habits that I've used in other classes.
During the lectures Frost doesnt teach He literally reads off of slides In this class you definatly have to do outside research (Textbook and tutors). Hes extremely intelligent but he doesnt know how to convey an idea efficiently. Hes a really nice guy and has a great since of humor but wont be taking his classes again bc I had to teach myself
He often skips steps and is very unclear with where he found his answers. He expects a lot of previous knowledge. Most of the daily class is based off of a power point and it is obvious that he doesn't go over them beforehand because he often confuses himself. Not good at answering questions and not very understanding.
Frost is a good person, but a crappy teacher. He knows his stuff; it's evident. However, he ends up going too fast and not explaining the concepts thoroughly. His tests are barely like the notes. He takes the hardest problems and tests you over them. But, he will try to help you if you come by his office. Overall, avoid taking him.
It's without a doubt that Professor Frost knows his material, but he doesn't know how to teach it. I received tutoring and asked for help, but even that wasn't enough. His tests are nothing like the problems in the book. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone.
Frost expects a great deal from his students, but doesn't deliver much himself. He makes mistakes frequently when solving problems, at least once per class his students have to call him out on a error. He teaches from power point slides but doesn't seem to remember exactly whats on them. He often loads his tests with too much material at once.
I have also taken Frost class and it was a huge mistake!! He uses power points for every class, but half of his test material is not from the slides. i find him very disrespectful. Overall I would not recommend his class to my worst enemy.
Absolutely horrible
He was a very rude and disrespectful teacher. When asked for help, he will walk around the answer. He is always in your personal space. He will ask you where you are going every time you leave the class. He will lie about giving you credit on a test if you show your work. He ALWAYS have an attitude. He just is not a good teacher and DONT TAKE HIM!!
he is a smart man, but he is not teaching the students well ( going toooo fast) if you feel something wrong with his class, drop it right away
If you do your homework and study you will be fine. If you have more trouble you can get help from him or a math tutor. He is a good guy and has an odd way of explaining things sometimes. Paying attention and taking good notes is also a good idea. I would've had an A if I didn't slack off for the trig tests. Writes fair tests too.
Took College Algebra as a summer course - worst mistake! Lectures are extremely fast, a lot of homework, and the tests are worth a lot of points!
Took College Algebra as a summer course - worst mistake! Fast lectures, a lot of homework, and the tests are hard ):
save yourself the hassle and just do not take a class with James Frost. moves way too fast, does not explain things clearly (he acts like you should already know the material), and makes you feel dumb for asking questions.
Lectures are short and poorly explained, assigns homework over lessons he hasn't taught yet, is very condescending if you ask him a question
He definitely makes you work for your grade, however, opportunities for bonus point by doing simple things come by the handful. Always cracks jokes in class, not always in good taste, but if you have a decent sense of humor and drive to pass your classes, you will do fine. I did not receive a C because of anything Frost did, it was because of me.
Frost is a practical instructor who wants everyone to excel. He drops your lowest test score and replaces it with your higher final exam score. He bumps up your homework grade. The material is HARD. I nearly GAVE UP! But he pushed us! I needed to study/work in this course at least 18 hours a week. Frost is always available for extra help! I passed!
I can see why people thinks that he's boring. He lecture pretty slow, and when you ask a lot of questions he seem to be a little annoyed. But the materials in the class shouldn't be that hard for people to understand because they're mostly stuff that you already learn in high school.
Mr. Frost was overall a horrible teacher. the amount of homework was ridiculous. His teaching style is pretty straight forward but he messed up almost every practice problem which is really confusing and he is also pretty rude when someone had a question he didnt take time to listen and was just weird to people who answered incorrectly. don't take!
Really the worst teacher I have ever had. He means well and knows what he is doing but he is just absolutely AWFUL. The worst part about him is when he explains problems on the board he doesnt show all his work.. I have said where did 12x come from? His response oh I did it in my head math is already hard enough, he just makes it harder.
Not very helpful and extremely difficult on those who may have fallen behind. Tests aren't very reflective of class work, either.
my Experience with this professor is that he proved to be a well-rounded teacher that was fair and generous in his grading.
Don't do it. He was under the impression anyone in his course had seen the material he'd be covering multiple times throughout their schooling. Fast teaching style from sloppily made powerpoints. Only class I've ever had to withdraw from, nice guy who obviously knows what he's talking about but he also expects you to be on his level.
This man is an awful teacher. The more he talks and attempts to explain things the more confused you will be. A student could teach the class better than he could. It was an awful semester having him, DO NOT RECOMMEND but if you do take his course to be sure to do the homework because he weighs it so heavy. He was also very condescending toward me.
mr. Frost is an excellent professor. He has a great sense of humor, and is very easy to get to know. Be respectful, and stay off your phone. He will help as much as possible, and it's easy to meet with him in office hours. If you do the homework and take notes you will do well.
Solid teacher. It was an internet based course but he was helpful none the less. Seemed like a caring guy.
Most arrogant professor I've ever met. I got an A in this class through my own sheer determination - and spending 15+ hours a week outside of class teaching myself the material he poorly explained and blew through. Mine is not the only class that he has, on more than one occasion, told a student who asked a question "Oh, I just did it in my head."
Dr. Frost is kind, helpful, and attentive but expect a difficult class. Prepare to study a lot because his class is no cakewalk, but this teaching style really helps you learn how to better teach yourself. However, I wouldn't recommend his teaching style for academically struggling students: it's better suited for students wanting a challenge.
Mr. frost was by far the worst professor I have had. He doesnt respond to emails. He doesnt care if you end up sick, and if you do, make sure it wont interfere with a test. Super rude, doesnt explain much in class. Overall 2/10.
Professor Frost is not too great. I've always struggled with math as a subject, but his teaching style and demeanor certainly didn't help. He wasn't all bad, but he definitely was a little harsh at times. There are no make-ups, and he means it. If math is not your strong suit, I'd suggest a different class. I passed because I was determined.
This professor made many students very uncomfortable. He struggled with technology and he did not stay on topic, so his lectures made little sense and he only discussed math for 10 min. Of a 2 hour class period. He argued with a student who pointed out an error he had made. She was very uncomfortable and he purposely embarrassed her during class.
He is really kind and works hard for you to pass the class. I bet most people who rated him 1 star were terrible students to begin with. But overall he is a good teacher, you just need to have a bit of patience with him (hes old).
