He's fair. He gives the same quiz questions as the ones you get to study for, but you don't really know what they're about until you see them on the lecture notes the following week. He has an easy grading scale but he isn't a huge fan of multiple choice tests. Lots of info to know for exams. Lectures are long and boring. He does pass candy out.
He's tough. He may give the same quiz questions but you have to know them word-for-word in order to do well on them. Most test questions on midterm and final are not multiple choice. Labs are HARD. You're only given an overview of them before you begin them. There's math involved sometimes but the TA will help you if you're having problems.
James is a great instructor. He's extremely well-organized and makes understanding the material very easy. I'm not at all interested in the topic, but he does his best to make it interesting.
Great professor i had him for two classes this semester and in both he tries really hard to make the subjects more interesting. gives alot of helpful work to make it easier as well. exams are easy if you attend the class and print out his powerpoints before hand.
GREAT TEACHER, makes class interesting, easy class. notes are online jus go to class to fill in the blanks, he gives u reviews which are 85% the same as the test. take him!
this class was hard in my opinion, atleast for a summer class... his test questions were difficult. he ckaims that its all based off of the notes he posts on blackboard but that isnt the case...
the guy has a great sense of humor and is overall a good person. the class itself is incredibly boring. most of his exams come from the study guides but he does switch them up a lot which an get tricky. i recommend him
I took weather and climate, labs were a little difficult, but work with the poepel in your class to finish them. The test were simple, they were straight from his powerpoints. Easy A if you do the work!!!
he straight. he cooler than other side of pillow.
This class is kind of boring but make sure you go. He leaves blanks in all of his notes and the only way to get them is if you go to class. As long as you go to class and follow along with his notes you'll do fine. We only used the textbook a couple of times during lab so you could get away without buying one if someone you know has one. OK class
Easy class and great professor. Easy to talk to and passes out candy for those who anwser questions correctly LOL.
James is an awesome professor. He keeps you involved with interactive questions (and delicious rewards) and makes the boring side of climatology semi-interesting. Be sure to study for that second test, it was the hardest for me. Labs are easy if you read the directions or just ask the TA for help. I'll be taking his classes as much as I can!
He gives reviews that are basically the same questions from the test so if you just get the right answers to the reviews--which you do by actually going to lecture--than you will definately do good on the tests. The TA gets meaner every each time you go to labs and the labs get considerably harder, but in the end the participation and labs help you
have to go to class to fill in the blank on lectures. tests you have to study. the discussion boosts your grade a lot. they get harder but work with the rest of class. it helps because everyone is confused not only you. i passed with a B. just work a little not an easy A. needed the textbook only for discussion (share)
THIS TEACHER WAS AWESOME. The class was really easy, I got a 104%. There is TONS of extra credit available and the discussions are just simple worksheets. He's funny and passes out candy and is a great professor. But..DO NOT BUY THE BOOK because it was a waste of 60 dollars...you do not need it.
Funny guy! Throws candy, badly! Has fill in the blanks in notes so go to class. Great teacher.
Great class makes it fun throws candy out to people who answer questions correctly my favorite teacher by far and made my first semester of college alot more enjoyable study for tests and you will get an A and pay attention go to class
GIS 4043C. High book use and powerpoint lectures are important for the test. Great teacher and great person.
Great teacher and very resourceful to students. I loved this class and learned a lot, even though I took it online - got to watch the lectures online, too - understood the material as long as I studied. Put forth the effort and you will succeed.
He was a wonderful teacher but there was no need to purchase of a $100 book since he teaches straight from the slides and your exams are from the slides only.
You learn a lot from him and he gives free candy. As long as you go to class and print out his notes, there isn't any reason to fail the class. All his tests are from his notes so don't bother buying the book.
very fast paced setting. holds class till the end every lecture. test answers come from he study guide which come from the notes. therefore, can't pass without good atendance. notes are found on BB, must print PAGES of them for class (annoying). HARD for a 2000 level but an A is possible with tons of hard work. plus, hes sexy and gives out candy ;)
NO, you wil NOT be learning about hurricanes and tornadoes like I thought you would (only till the very end). Its the scientific aspects (high, low pressures; theories; cold fronts; pressure; ect). Hard class but excellent professor.
Class is fast paced. Print ppt from BB and bring them to class he will give u all the answers. Stay til the end of class b/c he teaches til the end. Gives out candy during class and likes to joke around. If you pay attention and go to class you will get an A
This is the worst class ive taken. Its too fast paced and a massive amount of work for assignments. It is not interesting and the discussion is confusing. If you are not a science major then you will not enjoy this class.
Overall the class was confusing. Notes are on BB and they are fill in the blanks so have to go to class but the discussion is easy if you go to you can get an A in the class. Thinks he is funny.
Class goes at a fast pace. Need to print out power points before each class to fill in the blanks, or bring a laptop to class to fill them in. Fill out the the reviews and study them for tests, that is a must test are not that easy. Also, discussion is very confusing the TA(Evans) does not really teach at all and you have too everything yourself.
Hes pretty cool and nice. Plus hes hot and gives out candy =) The material is difficult but he gives out a ton of extra credit and curves each test. Just go to class, get the blanks for the powerpoints, and study the review sheets. I passed with an A. Also, dont buy the book! You need it once for lab but you can easily ask to see someone else's
Prof Gammack-Clark is awesome. First of all he is hot and funny!! You need to attend class to get the blanks for the power points, but he tries to make it as interesting as possible. Tests are right off of his study guides and he gives extra credit and curves the tests. No reason to fail this class! Plus he gives out candy for right responses.
James is awesome! He's very nice, and tries help you learn the information. Some of the information is a little boring, but for most it's just a class you have to take. I would recommend this professor, but maybe not this class.
good teacher, all test materiel on power point.
James is a funny guy and a good professor. I took this class during the spring semester with Aaron as the TA--he was helpful as well. Consisted of MidTerm and Final with easy assignments being completed in the discussion section with the TA. It's very important to go to lectures and take notes so that you can fill in your study guides for tests.
I took this professor in summer and I find him very helpful. The material is a lot to coveer in a summer session, but he knows how to make it interesting.Highly recommemded; he loves teaching
Mr. Clark makes this class fun and easy. His accent is hot!
This professor is not easy! His pace is very fast and takes up every single minute of his class time. He has a quiz every single week and the material is not always on the power points. However, his TA Mary Crider was the nicest girl and she was very helpful. I'm passing this class with a B-
The way the class is set up is for it to be easy but the material is extremely boring! If you're an organized person who will study for weekly quizzes, then you will do well but I had 0 motivation to study in this class. I received a B- so not so bad for not caring. I regret not working hard but if you are going to take it then make sure you study!
There are some concepts that involve some graphic thinking. Interesting class. He teaches pretty well. If you do not get it in class, he will only help you during office hours. However, his assistant will be the one that helps with the assignments. I had Crider. She was nice. Studying is required to do well. But, there is a lot of xtra cred
James was funny and the class was very to the point. He made sure to focus on the important information. No final, but a weekly quiz(in the discussion class). Go to class and listen. The quizzes are easy if you listen and you will remember the answers for the quiz. I enjoyed the class and recommend this professor.
Really, really great professor. He knows the material isn't too interesting but does his best to keep your attention. Class itself is pretty good too. Just make sure to study for the quizzes.
Really good teacher who really likes his job. Throws candy at students for correct answers. Provides powerpoints with fill-in-the-blanks. all test questions come from notes. that being said, tests are easy if you attend class, and it actually isnt a horrible class to attend.
He's fantastic! He's very knowledgeable and makes everything understandable. Also very funny! Lovely guy, highly recommend him!
The summer class was fast paced but very informative. He explained everything clearly and it was easily understood. If you pay attention in class, do all the work assigned (which can easily be completed in the lab), they is no reason not to get an A in his class. His lectures and bad aim keep it pretty entertaining.
He has an awesome accent and keeps the class interesting since weather and climate is quite possibly one of the most dull topics I've ever experienced. The discussion class is boring but only once a week.
Class was very easy. Attendance was not mandatory for the lecture but IS for the discussion. Went to class once the whole semester and ended with an A. Do the reviews and you'll pass the weekly quizzes. Assignments are tricky but my TA was very helpful (Greg Mount) Tons of extra credit and a curve at the end of the semester. Def recommend
James is a rather hilarious professor who uses both candy and humor to make class more enjoyable and lively. All weekly quizzes are taken in the discussion section on the computer. You need to go to his lectures in order to get the blanks for his powerpoints, as all quizzes come from his powerpoints. Rather easy class for non-science majors.
He is an expert in GIS, but he is a VERY!! difficult teacher the average for everyone in class was a 69. In this class you will most likely not get an A.. you will be lucky to get a B. Don't worry about buying the book it is a good reference tool, but is not NEEDED for the class..Though he is very difficult he is by far the best GIS teacher here
Great Professor. The video lectures are previously recorded and about an hour each week. He made me laugh when watching them sometimes. Weekly quizzes are open note and book. Expect to spend a good amount of time on weekly labs. You attend labs on campus for help. The hardest part of this class is getting started, all downhill from there.
Print the slide out and go to lecture in order to fill in the blanks. Lecture is interesting he throws candy and keeps the students engaged. Do the review powerpoint slides after taking the notes because those questions will be on the quiz!! passed with a 99%
James Gammack-Clark is a great professor who has a clear cut philosophy that every student of his will pass the class. He gives more than enough extra credit (do it all, and you will get above a 100), he has NO tests, only quizzes, and plenty of assignments that are very easy and clear cut. I got a 110 without even opening the book.
Honestly, my FAVORITE professor at this school so far, in any subject! His lectures are made more interesting because he explains it in a entertaining way and finds a way to make the lecture not too boring. This guy makes it easy to pass the class, as long as you study at least a little bit from his lecture notes. I would take him again!
You don't need to go to class, ever. Attendance is mandatory from the weekly lab. There is an assignment to take home every week with little to no instruction. LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT. NO TESTS only, weekly quizzes.
James is an awesome, family-type guy. He makes the lectures fun. Material is easy to understand if you pay attention. He doesn't believe in heavily weighted exams, so you take a short test in discussion class every week. Test is online and comes straight from his review slides.
Prof. Gammack-Clark knows how to keep the class awake and running, making you want to listen to what he is teaching about. No tests, only quizzes with plenty of XC. The assignments can be somewhat confusing, since the TA did not teach the material to you & does a good job at confusing you. Overall, if you show up and pay attention, it's an easy A
No exams Only quizzes (Quite a few) Lots of Extra Credit (In class) Lots of online homework (Extra Credit) You get candy for participating :D Lectures are long but he keeps it lively Clear Grading Criteria If you don't go to class, do his reviews and the quizzes will be a breeze He's super silly :p
I stopped going to his lectures because the review he posts online is the same as the quizzes. If you read through the review you'll pass the quizzes. There are no tests just quizzes, assignments and a bunch of extra credit. The TA basically gives you the answers to most of the assignments so just pass quizzes and you'll get an A.
Good professor. Overall easy class. Lab every week along with two quizzes. Some of the labs can be difficult if you are not familiar with reading maps. Make sure to watch the lectures before completing the weeks "quiz b"
I loved the class and the professor! He was hilarious and made the class really fun. He kept the attention of students and the class was relatively easy.
Class was an intro class but I didn't do much. Weekly labs were already done you just polished them up. Quizzes were from book and lecture. Would of liked to use the software more to get a better understanding of it. Eh maybe take again for an easy A
J G-C is a great professor. I have him for an online class and his material is very clear and adds more understanding than just reading alone. Assignments and quizzes are straightforward. He's animated and you can tell he loves the material he teaches. He also has a solid way of explaining topics to confused students.
Lab, quizzes, online lecture each week. Quizzes pretty easy all in book or from his lecture. Labs were a bit challenging but going to the open labs with the TAs are really helpful and I got As on all my labs because of that :) interesting concepts to learn. TAs are the go to, Gammack helps in his office hours but ask the TAs they grade everything
The class is easy but I wouldn't take another online class with him again. The lectures don't help a lot and he assigns homework that is a lot more difficult than it should be. He's one of the worst professors I've ever had but thankfully it's easy to get an A.
Do not purchase textbook. 12 exams total timed to the exact amount of question . For example: 7 questions, 7 minutes. Do the review paper before each test, makes it easier. Most DEFINITELY have to watch the lecture videos. He will curve at the end. But an "A" can easily be earned. No homework. Assignments requires understanding from videos.
Do not buy the textbook. Everything that is in the quizzes is covered in his lectures. Be ready to sit through about 4 hours of lecture per week. TAKE GOOD NOTES FROM THEM. The class is not difficult at all, just pay attention. 12 quizzes, no final. Quizzes are timed a minute per question! His lectures are long but he makes them fun! Extra credit!
Knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subject. Took course online. You HAVE to invest the time to watch the lectures and take notes. You do that and you're fine come quiz time. Lectures are lengthy, anywhere from 2 to 3 hours worth, but they are interesting. Extra credit opportunities abound!
Class is graded on quizzes from the book & lectures (which are long and boring) as well as labs that are mainly step-by-step from the textbook, which is easy but also time consuming. Don't count on the curve that he lists under grades--this year he decided at the end that "it wasn't necessary" which ended up hurting people that were counting on it
Such an incredible professor, even if the class is online! Watching his lecture videos made me wish that this class was offered in person. He's hilarious, very knowledgeable about this course, and you can tell he loves what he is talking about. This class may seem like it has a lot of work each week, but it really isn't much.
I took this class online and I really recommend it if you need a science course! No tests; quizzes each week and MasteringMeterology assignments, (pretty easy). Quizzes can be tricky, so watch the lectures and USE his review powerpoints, a lot have exact questions from quizzes. Lectures are actually entertaining too, but super long. Mostly easy A!
Professor Gammack-Clark is very clear with all of his assignments. Once you learn how to use the mapping software the class is fairly easy. There are no major exams but there are weekly quizzes to make sure you are watching the lectures and keeping up with the readings. Just keep up with everything and you will be fine. Labs are major grades.
Super fun class, lots of energy. He throws candy and has a super fun accent and a sense of humor. You're graded on online quizzes you can find quizlets to and somewhat tedious homework assignments, but there's extra credit assignments that'll help your grade a bunch
Really cool dude. Took his class online and he kept the subject entertaining even though the lectures were a bit long. Just make sure to print out the powerpoints and fill in the blanks as you watch the lectures so you can use them during the test. 10/10 would recommend.
textbook needed. easy a as an online class. tests are open note open book. would take professor again.
This professor is amazing. I took him online during coronavirus times and he's great. Makes everything easily assessable not to much work is given and has extra credit opportunities. Really sweet and funny professor and I would recommend for an easy A.
I enjoyed his class. I took the online summer course, and it's very doable. Each week there were two lessons. On average, each lesson consists of 1-2 hour lectures (I found them very entertaining), a short quiz, and an assignment (varying from 15-45 mins). There were also 4 ex cred opportunities. You are required to do everything, but don't worry!
Grade depends almost entirely on quizzes and labs. Impossible to do well on the labs: VERY harsh grading. Quizzes are lockdown with webcam. I studied for hours for most and still did terribly. Lectures are 2-3 hours long each week. Overall difficult, work-heavy class, but you will learn the material well. Take only if your GPA is not a concern.
I enjoyed the lectures and found the class engaging and reasonable. I highly recommend coming to the lectures and paying attention, taking notes.
I really loved having Professor Gammack-Clark. He really made the class enjoyable, and engaging. If you do take this class just watch out for flying candy. The grades for this class are pretty relaxed it's 12 quizzes and some homework. So even if you bomb a quiz your grade doesn't drop too much, and attendance isn't required but it is recommended.
Long lectures and quizzes based 85% off the things he says plus what is on the slides. You actually have to listen if you want to do well.
this professor has interesting lectures but i struggled a lot with this class. got an A in this class, but it was a lot of work. quizzes are difficult and off of lectures of 2-4 hours+ some weeks. despite studying sometimes i failed them. quizzes are also very short. labs arent bad (except for las pulgas). dont count on TA for help either.
There is a lot of work and I recommend going for lectures to get more of a feel for what you are learning. This also makes the work easier, as there is a lot of it. There was no final, but if you do not turn in work on time you get a 0.
Intimidating for an intro course. Lab and lecture quizzes every week. Lab instructions are long and confusing sometimes. Go to the TA office hours. Quizzes are lockdown + camera and pretty hard. Print out the fill-in-the-blank outline and watch the lecture to answer them to study. He curves at the end but don't rely on that.
Professor Gammack is a great professor, and the whole class is online. He gives excellent lectures, and the plans are straightforward. The map section may be difficult, so I recommend not leaving it until the last minute. He generally gives excellent lectures; as long you study them, you should be suitable for the quizzes. He curves ;).
the professor walked up and down the aisle asking questions and giving out candy to answers. Summer course on Tuesday/Thursday work from each class was due the next day, and for the quizzes which accompanied each section/day they used lockdown browser, were relatively easy since the class didn't involve much detail of each section.
Weekly lockdown tests, 3 hour long lectures from 2020 where the horrible microphone quality gives me headaches, annoying weekly assignments that do nothing to teach you what quizzes will entail and not to mention the tests have "as discussed in the lecture..." questions, only problem is he never said the answer in the lectures. Avoid at all cost.
Lockdown browser quizzes every week with an easy mastering assignment to pair with it (use online quizlets for the mastering). Quizzes are based on lectures from 2020 with bad sound quality sometimes. Overall, not the hardest class ever, just wish he updated the quizzes to actually match the info he emphasizes in lecture.
I would recommend him. 12 hmw assignments, aren't hard, just time consuming. 12 quizzes (respondus+webcam) go w/ each module but don't relate to the hmw. Quizzes are based on his Power Points and lectures, so I'd recommend watching the 2+ hour long videos if you can, but it's not needed. He's understanding & let me retake a quiz. He adds a curve~
v easy class. I took it online, and I only got a b because I wasnt aware there were actual lecture vids i was just learning the stuff from the HW. completely my fault tho so make sure to actually look at the modules LMAO.
His online lectures were awesome and funny! The homeworks are easy, just make sure to not get too many questions wrong on them. The quizzes are somewhat broad, though they kinda just cover random topics. You'll only need his online lectures to do well in the class (no reading required). At the end of the semester, he also offered some extra credit.
His course was super engaging although it is three hours, he tried his best to entertain us along the time. He gives out candy during lectures which is great to start engagement among students. His tests were hard at first but once you understand what you need to study you will be fine.
In his online class, the quizzes have nothing to do with the information in his lectures.
I would definitely not take him again online seeing as it is a bit difficult to properly prepare for the quizzes even after watching all of the lecture videos. I would, however, like to take a class with Dr. Gammack-Clark in person, seeing as his lectures do seem quite interesting and funny. This is by no means an easy A but still interesting.
Overall, the class is not that bad. But there were some assignments that should have been live lectures. It would have been more helpful. Each module comes with a quiz and an assignment. Mostly, just follow the instructions. But there were two assignments that confused a lot of people. For those assignments, I would say go to the office hours.
