Great professor.
didnt understand teaching methods but as a person nice guy.
Horrible teacher. Very difficult to understand. Teaches as if we are mathmaticians and we already know everything. Goes over lessons to quick and gets frustrated when you ask him to many questions.
Strange sense of humor. Overall, a nice guy but as a teacher he is not very clear with explaining things. It's important to attend class and keep up the homework to do well in his class. Provides a few extra credit options.
Awesome lecturer. I learned so much neat math in his class that I thank him for that because now I use it like crazy in physical chemistry. Too hard? Whoever wrote that hasn't been challenge in any class yet. I do recommend him all the way.
One of the best professors at College of the Canyons. He really cares about his students. He is willing to put in extra time and answer any questions when you approach him in the TLC Lab or during his office hours! He really helped me out a lot.
He moves very quickly and is easily flustered when people ask questions. Laughs at students when they don't understand and expects that everyone loves math like he does. Not recommended at all
good teacher, willing to help. very intelligent, and explains things pretty well. very nice guy.
Confusing at times.WANTS STUDENT PARTICIPATION. Doesn't laugh at students!!Does get flustered when students ask difficult ques. Tests have VERY few problems, so if you get ONE problem wrong, your test score drops a whole grade down. He gives out 4 tests.
Excellent teacher. Highly recommended.
took him after 070, very good math teacher, really wants the student to be successful, and respects those who ask and challenge him about questions on tests.
Nice man, but my class did not respond to him well. He is pretty monotone and often unclear. He is hard to follow because he skips steps. I like that he assigns homework but does not make you turn it in.
He's very nice teacher. Somebody can say his teaching style is confusing, but his lecture very helpful to understand if you listen to him carefully. The one factor you can fail in his class is just your over confeidence about calc. Don't miss his class, then you'll pass with good grade you want.
Nice guy, want you to succeed. Makes 103 understandable, and gives you credit if you got to TLC lab. Take him!
He explains everything very well.
He was an interesting man. He loves math too much. I learned a lot in his class. You have to do the hw because his quizs are from the hw. Overall, he was that hard of a profess. I took the class over the summer and got a B.

Mr. Gilmore is a really good math teacher, who also brings quite a bit more than just numbers and equations to the classroom. He knows his stuff, makes it understandable in human terms, and even knows a pretty funny joke or two. He also really wants his students to get it, and with his help, they do. I give him my highest recommendation.
He is a very understanding teacher. He really wants to help if you want to learn. He is not too clear so if you like all the steps, he is not for you!
I was very frustrated in his class because he would make stupid mistakes on the board; it was annoying and confusing. I would recommend Mrs. Gibson because she never gets anything wrong, and her demeanor is much more positive than Mr. Gilmore's.
An extremely intelligent man but an OK teacher. Boring class even though I am a person who loves math! He doesn't teach you everything you need to know for the test. To succeed you should do enough of the hw to understand each section. Overall he is a very nice person & does give a lot of partial credit on tests to help your grade.
he failed me- i tried really hard he just kept relating everything to computers. i wouldn't take him if you have a choice! there's better teachers!
This guy rocks!!! He made a lot of small mistakes in class, but he really knew what he was doing. He was always happy to help us out if we didn't understand, and he challenged us. He was hilarious as well. Great teacher, take him if you can.

For those of you who thought he was bad you seriously dunno what you are talking about. Although he may appear as a nerd he is definitely passionate about teaching, and he is a really fair guy about tests. You just pissed cuz you didnt even bother to read the textbook on your own and probably failed half the tests. Go learn to STUDY!
Great teacher!!! I suck at math and got a C, which I am very pleased about. Go to all the classes and do all the group work and homework and you'll definitely pass!!!
Horrible professor! He makes the test extra hard an then gives you random partial credit points- if he just made the test how it should be he wouldnt have to do that. Also, he assigns hw, but doesnt check it every day, or even the day of the test. No he randomly gives pop quizzes in which you have you copy the hw problem to whichever #s he says.
If you bairly passed your last math class or struggle in math in general..DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I needed to class for my major and his class was way to hard. He would start talking about one thing..stop himself then talk about another thing and then go back to something else. His tests are hard. He is a really nice guy but dont take the class.
If you do all the HW and come to class, take notes, study, and do all the other thing required of a college student you will do fine. But if you slack off and fall behind it will cost you. This class isn't easy but it's not hard either. Prof gilmore is a great math professor who treats you like a college academian instead of an HS student.
Good teacher. This was a hard class and I got bad grades on most of the tests, yet I still ended up with a high B. He really does try to give his students high grades and will bend the rules to do it (if you're trying hard of course). DO YOUR HOMEWORK! His quizzes are exact replicas of problems from the book.
Great teacher, very helpful, and doesn't stress if you dont show up to class (its computer assisted). Just like in any other class, if you do the work and take the tests you will pass. But do not take an advantage of the course just because it is computer assisted and at your own pace, many people did and they failed. Do your Work!!!
Best math teacher I've ever had! He is a fair grader, very clear, and explains things extremely well. If you keep up with the work, you will do fine. You can tell he wants his students to succeed. Very intelligent man!
I took him 6 and 8 years ago so my review is not recent, but I visited College of the Canyons today, and thought of him!I can honestly say HE IS THE BEST MATH PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD!- I have a degree in engineering and took lots of Math.He is one of the few professors who didn't give up helping me, when I was ready to quit(he didn't let me quit).
I took his class and got an A and still don't recommend him.
He knows what he is doing and won't force it on u. He'll stop and explain 20 times for the slower people and not get tired of it. the greatest part of his teaching is that he gives examples of how it would be used in real life! I'm not done with his class yet but i have an A so far :-). quizzes based on HW and Final exam is cumulative
Gilmore is a really great teacher for math! He has a shy personality but he is nice and will help you with all of your work.
Absolutely love Gilmore. Had him for calc I, II, and III. Explains things very well, tests are challenging, but there are no suprises. Very fair grader as long as you try or show effort. Made me appreciate math more. Highly recommend.
Don't take him, he could care less about his students. His reviews are not helpful. If you barely passed your last math class don't take him. He does many mistakes on the board yet he's a harsh grader. Stay away!
Greatest math prof. I've ever had. Aced all his tests, but they are challenging! Lectures are very thorough and easy to understand. Gilmore's tests are designed to test whether you really understand the material. If you don't invest the time to truly understand the concepts in this course, its likely that you will perform terribly.
Best/hottest math teacher
Dude this guy is freaking awesome. You can tell he really loves math and he really wants you to get what he's talking about which ends up making him a great teacher. Take him.
Great Professor! Always willing to help but you have to ask for it. His exams are challenging but not impossible. You must study and do your homework. I did poorly on the first few exams but managed to get an A in the class because I changed my study habits. One of the best math professors at COC!
This professor is exactly what any student dreams of. he will explain everything perfectly in the smallest amount of time, it will look foreign at first, and then after only a few minutes you will look back and think....WOW! i understand everything! BEST TEACHER AT COC BY FAR! he will also teach why its practical, and that motivates you 100x more!!
He's incredibly helpful and he'll go out of his way to ensure that each student understands complicated math concepts. He'll also give partial credit on exams. He does get upset if one does not pay attention or if one chats during lectures. He is very passionate about math. Recommend for all levels.
This guy cannot teach to save his life. Rambles on about random things and goes off topic. More than half the class was failing and a lot of the students dropped out after a few weeks. Half the class either doesn't come to class most days or leaves during break cuz the class is unbearable. WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD!! CAN'T TEACH!!!
Took his Calc 2 class. Doesn't explain things very clearly and he is very very monotone which can lead to boredom and having a hard time paying attention. He gives good partial credit on tests, however the tests are still very hard. Difficult teacher, but also a difficult subject, however I still feel he could've been better.
Average teacher. Had a hard time understanding him. Not someone I'd recommend if you haven't taken precalculus before.
He is super nice but doesn't teach very well... I have a feeling he's better at teaching the higher maths though. You can tell he LOVES math. He doesn't collect HW but his pop quizzes are based on HW problems so you gave to do it. He grades very lenient and drops your lowest test grade which is nice of him.
Mr. Gilmore is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He helped me out a lot throughout the semester and met with me a lot. I didn't do good on the first few tests but he me with me a lot and helped me. I ended up getting a 100% on the final and an A in the class. You have to study and do the hw in his class, but its possible
Great teacher! He is very helpful and easy to understand. Do your homework because his quizzes are based off of them. Loved this guy.
Really great professor. He's definitely a guy who appreciates mathematics. A tad awkward and can get irritated if students can't keep up with foundations of his lectures. His exams aren't too bad, but do yourself a favor by going over important proofs from his lecture; some will be included.
He is a awesome professor workload is not too much not too little is ok to keep you busy the class is pretty easy if you do all of his work he is a pretty easy grader when it comes to the exams overall hes just a great teacher highly recommended
This is definitely the teacher for you if you suck at math. His workload is not too much is ok, good thing is he has a tutor in his class so you can ask for help. He also gives you three chances to pass his exams. And He is a very lenient grader. HGHLY RECOMMENDED
I'm a physics student at UC Berkeley, prior to transferring I took Gilmore for Calc 2 and 3. All of the material that I learned in his class has been 100 percent applicable to my major and he truly prepared me for the next level of my academic career. He can come off as intimidating but he's brilliant and wants you to be too.
i took this class expecting to barely get by because of how horrible i am at math. But this teacher changed that for me. I have never had such a great math teacher in my life. doing the homework was a pain but he is an amazing teacher all in all! highly recommend him!
I failed the course, but that was my fault. He taught the class well, and was very clear on what he expected from us. Since this was Calc3, he expected us to be more mature in regards to our study habits, doing hw was optional. He is also a fair grader, and treats everyone the same. Highly professional, recommend to take.
Gilmore is an expert at identifying areas of confusion for most students. His tests are conceptual and theoretical, not problem based so you need to UNDERSTAND the material, not just crank out problems. If you don't put in serious study time in Calculus, you will not pass, regardless of the instructor.
Class wasn't super hard, you need to do your homework as he has pop quizzes and takes questions directly off homework. You can use index card for test. Sometimes I felt like Mr. Gilmore was not fully explaining things, if you asked a question he would assume you knew certain parts and not do full problem.
He's a bit dull, but still a nice guy. He gives a lot of homework but within reason. Tests are only 8-15 questions, including the final. The tests are identical to what he goes over in class. Pay attention in class and you'll do fine. I didn't pay attention so I would spend the night before teaching myself the material. Learn form me.
Exams are tough but reasonable. One unique quality is that he lets you omit 1-2 problems on each test. HW takes a long time; he gives pop quizzes on the HW instead of collecting it. Drops lowest test and quiz. Lectures are well organized and clear, but you must also read the book. If you put in the effort, you're guaranteed to get at least a B.
GPA Killer! He expects you to have trig and algebra memorized. Tests on trig, but refuses to lecture or review it. His examples are poor because he expects the class to already know everything. Gets visibly upset when asked questions he feels you should already know the answers to. Ask about him at the TLC. No study guides or review. Expect a C.
Gilmore may come off as a condescending guy who calls himself brilliant, but after hating him for the first half of the semester, I learned to respect his teaching style. The first two tests are incredibly challenging, and focus on concepts and stuff you can't find in the homework, but he lightened up for the finals 3 tests. Get ready to work hard
Expects you to have the trig part memorized, but doesn't even bother teaching it. His tests are very hard and are completely different from the hwclasswork. He will teach "x + yn" in class but on tests he will ask "if this house's wall costs $2ft., and none of the walls are the same, how much does the house cost?".
Makes very hard tests, condescendingly reprimands the class when less than 30% of the class passes, even though there is clearly a problem with his teststeaching method. Doesn't review or make study guides for the tests that are nothing like the hwclassworklecture. 10 ppl left at the end of the semester!! Studying hard doesn't give you an A here
Took Gilmore for Precalc, barely passed. Took a different professor for Calc 1, passed with an A. Took Gilmore again for Calc 2 (my only option), failed. His teaching style is terrible and his classes are pointlessly difficult.
Took intermediate algebra during winter term. It was a really fast class but professor Gilmore was with us the whole way. His lectures are clear and straightforward. He is there to help and explain everything. He is easy to understand and teaches new concepts well. Do the homework, listen to him, pay attention, and you're good for the test.
Although he does seem really passionate about math and his grading itself is really fair, he goes out of his way to ask the hardest questions and his class is awful for people who suck at math.
This guy will ruin your GPA. The tests are much random and are insanely difficult. They aren't related to the homework. He doesn't give study guides or do test review. Forget reviewing trig. He REFUSES to lecture on it and expects you to have it memorized. Take this class at your own risk!
Best math teacher @ COC. Not engaging lecturer, but fair and clear about expectations. Tests involve some proofsknowledge of overlying concepts (expected @ this lvl). Homework "optional," but gives hw quizzes wo writing problems down--lets u reference your hw. If you make study guides, you'll do well. Drops lowest test score. Gives EC. Sweet guy!
For linear algebra it doesn't get easier than this. There are barely any proofs on the test, so it's pretty much 90% computation. He gives pop quizzes which are straight from the hw. Lets you drop the lowest test and allows you to skip 1 question for each test. Be happy this is at COC, otherwise he would have taught real (proof based) linear alg.
Most of the problems that he does in lecture will be on his tests, so attendance is highly recommended if you want to pass. Recommend skimming section before lecture to help with understanding. Tests are mostly computational and he gives a lot of partial credit. He drops your lowest test score and you don't have to answer one problem on each test.
His lectures are good sometimes and just ok other times. I took the alternative to math 58 which is 59. This class was a PLATO program based class. We had homework assigned every week and had to have our classwork/homework signed off as well. As a mastery learning course, we had a test to receive a C grade, then a test for B, then A.
Best math teacher I have had! Highly recommend his grading is very fair.
He's a bit corny but it's funny. Makes the lectures easy to understand and is always willing to help, even with tests. If you show you're working hard, he helps you out towards the end of the semester. Made math less stressful.
With Professor Gilmore I earned my first C at COC in 5 semesters. My GPA went from a 3.8 to a 3.65, mind you that i got an A on all my other classes that semester. He focuses too much on theory. Seeking outside help is imperative if you want to pass this class. He is a teacher for math majors. Tests were always a surprise. Would not recommend him.
I had Mr Gilmore for 059 spring semester. He's a pretty good professor but kinda monotone. Super easy grader and although there is a lot of homework, it's doable. Easy A-C if you show up and just do what needs to be done. Definitely take him again.
Gilmore is the best professor at COC. Extremely fair grader on tests and he structures his class the best way possible. Iv'e taken him 3 times & would do anything to take him a 4th. There is no other teacher as understanding and helpful as him. His tests are easier then the hw so if you do the hw the tests are not as bad. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Wonderful professor. He teaches you thing you need to know and leaves out the useless stuff. He's a very fair grader. He will notice if you are trying in the class and if you go for his help he will do so. Very straight forward testing and quizzes. He won't surprise you with something you guys barely covered. Best math professor, would take again.
After taking Calc I and II with Gilmore, I can truly say he is one of the best professors for math at CoC. What he teaches is what he tests on, homework is just enough to master the topic and not at all busy work. Do the homework, study lectures and you will have no troubles with him.
Best professor at CoC, he lectures exactly what he puts on the exams. He doesn't collect HW, but he does do pop quizzes based on HW. Exams questions are pulled fromhomework and lecture. So do you HW and study lecture.
One of the most hilarious math professors I've ever had, albeit they're math puns. His lectures are good. Rarely, he'll set up the solution, but won't finish. Tests are conceptual, so make sure you get how/why the topic works. Pop quizzes are HW problems & open notes. So do the HW. WILL make you apologize if you say sorry before asking a question.
Great lectures, fair HW, clear grading system. Really nice & will try to work with you. If he sees you struggling, but trying to do better, he's open to advising you on what you can do better. Pop quizzes are open-book & exact ones from the HW. So do your HW (usually 10/15 problems per section). The lectures are basically what is on the exam.
Prof. Gilmore was the best Math prof. I've had so far at COC! His lectures are very clear and easy to follow. If you have a question, he has an answer. Pop Quizzes: based on HW Q's, so do HW! Tests are straight forward but make sure to look over your notes prior AND he might let you skip a question:) Overall, this class was amazing! You'll like it!
He has very clear grading criteria and gives a lot of chances to get a better grade. Gives a lot of partial credit on tests so even if you only write what you know you can still get a lot of points. As long as you keep up with the homework (I did not) it's a pretty easy class. He is very organized and explains exactly what you need to know.
I really enjoyed his class. He's one of the few professors I've had that really seems to enjoy his job and the class is very fair.
Despite what others have said, he is not a fair grader. He explains some things really well but over complicates others like with series and sequences. Would not take again any class with him again.
Gilmore is the best professor ever. He explaims things in details and his tests are never too specific. His tests cover the notes and hw. He lets you drop one test which would probably be the last one for most. He is always helpful
Great person, not the best professor. I learned most, if not all the material, on my own. A really funny guy, but I would not recommend taking him.
Very tough grader. Midterms are short and theoretical. Pop quizzes are given often. I would recommend another professor if you want a good grade.
The class is based heavily on tests and pop quizzes. Really have to self-teach to pass.
Professor Gilmore is a great person, and as a professor he does pushes you to study the material. For the final, he has a review day. His quizzes are from the homework. He also give optional assignments to makeup points for the quizzes. Do ALL hw problems and study his notes because it will help you in this class! He wants you to pass!
This was my professor for Precalculus, and as a student who struggles with math, I felt unsupported. Here are some qualities in this professor: Office hours are accessible, does not give test reviews, tests are based on lecture rather than homework, teaches not from book so it is extremely hard to self-teach.
Professor Gilmore is the BEST math instructor I ever had! Not only are his lectures clear, he makes Precalculus less intimidating. He is always willing to help his students and I found his office hours to be EXTREMELY helpful! Like ALL math classes, there will be lots of HW, but that is expected. Study hard, show dedication, and you will pass! :)
Took Gilmore for 104 and 212. By far my favorite math prof at COC. Ive had profs that only went over examples from the book, so they weren't much help. Gilmore makes sure that the info he teaches is supplemental w/ the textbook. He is forgiving on tests as long as you can show that you know the material; he knocks off a couple points per problem
Gilmore is a great teacher and is nice when grading. He understands that you are trying and if you don't get the right answer he considers the work more. Make sure to do the homework on time and not fall behind or you pass the homework quizzes. Also don't be afraid to ask him questions when you don't understand the content.
Gilmore is one of the better teachers out there. He cares more about work than the answer on tests (which are also more lecture heavy) which is different from a lot of teachers. If you don't understand something during his lectures, don't be afraid to ask (he will typically give good explanations). Overall, I would certainly take him again.
Gilmore is a great professor whose teaching mainly relies on lectures. Homework is not due, but it helps with tests and quizzes. Quizzes are not given as frequently but consist only of homework questions, so he allows you to copy the answers from your homework. The best thing to do if you have trouble is ask a lot of questions during the lecture.
If you like well organized lectures do not take this professor. Don't get me wrong he's lectures are based on common sense but he doesn't like to provide formulas which can be confusing if you're not fully comfortable with algebra and geometry. Classwork is required. Hw is best to keep up with as this will be used for random quizzes.
Test are not tough and he teaches the class and he is engaging but of course, you have to put an effort in order for an "A". Good luck.
Gilmores class was okay. I personally was not a fan of his teaching, most of the time I had to go to the TLC to relearn the subjects because his explanations confused me (thats just my experience). His tests arent too bad but sometimes some questions I felt unprepared for. He did give good partial points for trying on the tests.
I didn't like Gilmore's teaching style, but he's very kind and answers any questions. For my class, he didn't collect homework and would instead give open-note homework quizzes where you copied down the problems directly from your homework. Our grade was determined by 7 quizzes, 3 exams, and the final. The final was difficult, but he curved it.
I've taken Gilmore for both pre-calc and calc 3, and I can say he is an amazing professor who sincerely cares about his students. His teaching technique is very straight forward, and what he goes over class and homework is what will be on the tests. Very funny guy with a dry sense of humor. Take Gilmore!!!!!
Really good professor. His tests are challenging but he gives partial points just by heading in the right direction on a problem. The best way to succeed, study your notes and any handouts given, do all your homework and don't miss class. Be prepared to work hard and this class will definitely build some character in you.
He wants his students to succeed in his class as he is very forgiving in his grading. This is not a class you can BS and skip, so be prepared to put in a couple hours in. His lectures may be hard to follow, but he's open to any questions. He does not curve tests and replaces your worst test grade with your final exam grade if it helps your grade.
Professor Gilmore has an obvious passion for mathematics and it shows in his class. There were a few key concepts I had to teach myself but for the most part his lectures are good and he is clear about what will be on the test which I respect. His class was difficult but I'm sure calc 3 with any prof is hard. Give Gilmore a try you won't regret it.
Gilmore is a great professor. He's passionate about what he's teaching. He also provides time for questions on homework assignments at the beginning of every class. Homework isn't collected, but the quizzes are the homework so stay on top of that! He answers questions politely, and his explanations make sense. Offers partial credit on exams!
Gives great lectures, a reasonable grader, and lets you skip one problem of your choice on each test. I certainly was able to do my best in his class and wish I could have him for my other math courses. The best choice for any calc class
He is very nice. Easy class if you study the lectures
I love professor Gilmore, and if I can I take any math classes with him. He's very clear on what he wants for tests, and likes to give ample time for tests, normally 10-15 problems. For online he picks random homework questions to be turned in at the end of the test (no camera, or proctored). In person he picks questions from HW for quizzes.
His lectures are sometimes boring to sit through but his tests are fairly straightforward and much easier than the homework. He is by far the easiest grader I have ever had and gives A TON OF PARTIAL CREDIT. You could get a C on a test with another teacher but have an A with Gilmore's partial credit.
He's passionate about math, that's probably the only good thing about him. I chose him because I saw he had good ratings, but he's literally the worst. He doesn't even lecture. For our first exam of the year, he gave us a "review sheet" in class, but did not go over any of the questions, and the review sheet only covered one topic out of 11.
It was only the first week of Spring Semester and I am already not liking how the class functions. There is no lecture provided, no step by step example problem provided, and you are expected to learn by yourself. He also claims that he should be the last resource to ask for help. Do not take him.
I honestly came out of his class knowing my calculus. Calc 1 is the most important class because it builds the foundation you need for calc 2 and 3. Gilmore showed us a ton of proofs in class and he truly focused on trying to give students a much deeper understanding of calc. I was teaching myself a lot though, and was always at TLC.
Lectures are boring/hard to learn from, no graded homework or assignments-whole grade is based on tests and quizzes. But homework is needed for quiz, so fail If you don't have it. You don't even know your class grade bc he doesn't upload it anywhere. Tells us to figure out our grades by ourselves but doesn't tell us how. Pick another professor
Really cool prof, the class is super straight forward, and he is super helpful.
Gilmore is my favorite professor at COC. His tests are not overly burdensome, and he always gives test topics. Also gives partial credit on the tests. Lectures are thorough. Always available for extra help, and wants you to succeed. He doesn't grade homework, but gives homework pop quizzes. He provides extra credit in the quiz category.
I took professor Gilmore's class based on his overall rating on this website. This was a mistake. He will walk through theorems during lecture and expect you to teach yourself the examples at home. His tests include the most difficult version of the problem he can reasonably give to you. I am an honor society student and I struggled for a C-.
Professor Gilmore is one of the better professors in COC's Math Dept.. Grade consisted of a few quizzes, 4 tests (he drops the lowest one), a small presentation, and the final. He does want you to succeed, and he'll answer any questions that you have. Also gives a ton of partial credit on the tests. I'd take him again.
Professor Gilmore is an incredible Professor. He has a passion for what he teaches, and it shows. His test design is immaculate; furthermore, he is a generous grader (I made an error on a test and still got 100%). If you need to take a math class, take Gilmore.
I struggled a lot in his class, but that's because I'm really bad at math. I got a B in the class after having a borderline D/C most of the semester. If you work hard, you WILL pass. He's really nice and will help you out when you have questions. The homework was a lot though.
Prof. Gilmore was really good imo. His lectures could be a bit boring after a while, but they got to the point and he does a good job explaining abstract and difficult concepts. Tests weren't too bad either and he gives lots of partial credit. Do the homework, ask questions, and you'll pass the class. Highly recommended.
Fantastic professor, Gilmore was the best math teacher I have ever had. His exams are challenging but very fair. He gives fair warning about the content, and offers great review packets to help prepare. Very clear he loves math and is passionate about it. Being in his class rocked, take this professor!
AOC Students: TAKE GILMORE! He is nice and teaches well. I was nervous about taking calculus but he teaches well and grades easy, very heavy on partial credit. Do your homework, review your notes, and redo practice problems in order to study for tests. If you put in the work you can get an A!
Very lenient grader. Tests are primarily based on lecture. Lectures are clear but don't always cover topics appearing in HW. Group term project seemed to be graded on completion. Takes attendance. The textbook (Anton) is a disaster; good for engineering and applications content, but math/physics/CS majors may want to supplement with other material.
I took this course in 8 weeks and I was probably studying about 8 hours a day. Organic Chemistry tutor is your best friend for Calc 1. He has a video for 95% of the subjects covered in class and it will really help you understand everything. Gilmore is also a great grader who gives you plenty of time on the exam with a bunch of partial credit.
Took him for precalculus and calculus I, he was a good professor for both. Lots of homework, but it's necessary given the subjects. Expect to be confused sometimes during lectures, just take clear notes and review afterwards. He gives a clear list of review topics prior to each exam and he is a very kind grader. And remember, math can just be hard.
Gilmore for calculus 3 was way worse than when I took him for calc 1. His lectures are so bad that you are forced to watch videos or read the textbook so you can do the homework. His tests are the only good thing about him because not only does he grade nicely, but that the questions are easier than the homework problems.
After reading his reviews, I thought that I finally got a good professor. Wrong. Gilmore has the most boring lectures ever; he reads off his paper, talks about non-related topics, & says homework is not graded yet are literally the quizzes. "Generous" but not too much like many say. Grades aren't posted, so you'll have to gamble on staying or not.
Listen everyone should understand that in this class you truly need to put in the work and effort in order to pass and you will learn that with him the easy or hard way. This class is by no means easy use him as a resource and go to his office hours he is very helpful and wants you to succeed if he sees improvement or diligent work from you.hesgood
A hard class. Thought it was somewhat easy at first but it got worse with time. He tries sometimes but his lectures r not engaging and the tests don't have much to do with the HW itself. There is also a lot of HW which takes hours to complete, He gives a lot of partial credit on tests which is the only good thing about his class.
I had some family issues the first month of class and I missed the first test. Prof Gilmore replaced it with my final and gave me a lot of help throughout the semester to improve. I did as much as the homework as possible and thought I was going to fail. Prof. Gilmore is a very lenient grader as long as you prove you understand the concepts.
I had really hard time getting good grade in Gilmore's Calculus 3 class. The problem with Gilmore is his way of doing lectures. He doesn't go in depth with the lessons and even tells us to read the textbook. He also wastes a lot of time talking about astronomers like Galileo and Alexander the Great, which are not necessary to know to pass the class
He is a very old fashioned teacher in that his lectures are boring but match what is on the tests. His tests are easy to study for. I just memorized theorems word for word and got As/Bs on all my tests. He offers extra credit for particpating in a math league competition which is just showing up to a classroom for an hour; you don't have to do well
Professor Gilmore, is one of the best hidden gems at College of the Canyons. His class is composed of homework quizzes and 3 tests for the most part. Very lenient with grading and drops a homework quiz at the end. His calculus class isn't hard for the most part just have to put the initial effort and apply yourself to get a good grade.
really chill class, there are six "quizzes" that are essentially just copying the hw down onto paper. very generous partial credit on tests, and he lets you cross a problem off as well. there's a project at the end of the semester with a partner that everyone gets 100% on too. doesn't use canvas but you can have a good idea about what your grade is
Professor Gilmore is a nice teacher, but his lectures can be challenging to focus in if you have a short attention span, as he talks slowly and changes subjects randomly. Struggles to explain concepts clearly. Exams differ from homework, so don't rely on it alone (still do it tho). Seek help from others who've taken him. He's okay, not the best.
Professor Gilmore's class is tough but manageable if you put in the work. Attend lectures, do the homework, and utilize resources like Unstuck AI and the free textbook - it'll pay off with a solid grade.
Gilmore was honestly a really solid prof. There is a ton of homework, but as long as you keep up with it, it is manageable. I barely studied for the exams outside of the HW and got As on everything. He does have "pop quizzes" but it is just copying HW so be sure to keep up with it. He is SUPER generous with partial credit! Definitely recommend!
Professor Gilmore is an amazing teacher! I'm generally pretty good at math so the class seemed easy to me, but if you study hard enough you can pass with an A. There are pop quizzes but all you have to do is copy down your homework problems. He is a VERY EASY grader but if you really want to learn the material, this class is probably not for you.
A lot of homework but important to do it all - the quizzes are direct from the homework. The exams were pretty easy and basic concepts, and he gives a ton of partial credit. He takes a long time to teach simple concepts and makes them seem more confusing than they are. It would be best to get additional help outside of class.
Exams are based on lectures not book, so it is important to attend all lectures. Quizzes are random sampling of questions from the hw. Drops your lowest test score. I think the way he teaches is very good, but goes on tangents sometimes. He assigns group work at the end of class so you have the opportunity to immediately apply everything you learn.
Chill professor Wants you to understand the math concepts and not just go through the motions Find people to study with for test, it makes a difference Lot of partial credit on test Homework takes a long time in Calc 1, similar in Calc 2 Lectures can be dry at times Self study is important Calculus in general isn't easy Learned a lot
He's an incredibly caring and fun teacher. From my experience he had clear explanations and was considerate. He replaces the lowest test grade with your final grade if it helps you, but be careful he does assign a lot of homework.
Had to self-study a lot, as he assumed that we were really good in the calculus 1 material. He gives pop homework quizzes, which are easy A's if you do the homework. He doesn't put grades in at all, so you'll have to calculate everything. Tests weren't too bad A LOT of partial credit & sometimes was allowed to skip a question.
Nice guy, worst teacher I've had the displeasure of experiencing. Homework had nothing to do with exams, lecture was infuriating and boring. I at one point fully stopped going and relied on Ochem Tutor. If you're not good at math, DONT take him. You dont know the grade you have until after the semester ends since he doesn't grade.
This is the worst calculus class i have ever taken, and this is coming from someone who aced highschool with a 4.5 gpa. He has far too many pop quizzes, all with material we have never covered, while also saying some questionable things during lectures. Homework is around 50-70 questions per week, which is an insane amount. Overall please avoid him
Please avoid this guy for math 211. He is the worst teacher, personally think Baytaryan is a much better alternative. He is horrible at teaching and it really sucks how much work he assigns. He also is very tough to reach out to, and makes very simple and annoying mistakes like inputting the wrong grade. To this day, he still hasn't fixed it. Worst
Prepare to spend 40 hours a week for a class! This professor is not good at teaching, don't be fooled by the other reviews. He assigns a lot of hw, one time being when he assigned 70 questions due in a week. He never posts notes online, and he has messy handwriting making it impossible to learn. He was a good teacher at the start, but declined now
He changed the pop quiz style, it isn't based on homework anymore. This unpredictability makes taking this class living hell. Too much hw, no relation to actual tests, and very very difficult handwriting to read. Hes a great guy, not the best teacher :/ and all the other reviews about the hw being too long are absolutely in the right.
The syllabus is extremely volatile for change, nothing he says actually happens. He frequently states the wrong test day, offers extra credit if you work on a project but never gives it, and isn't even there in office hours half the time. He also barely responds to emails, and NEVER grades. worst teacher i have ever taken
I'm surprised at how much he cares for his classes. Always there during office hours the day before an exam. Always made sure to answer questions. Allowed to skip a test question, and gave extra credit. You really just need to show that care back to him. He does homework-based pop quizzes, and STEM classes ask for a lot of study time, so beware.
Professor Gilmore is easily one of the best math professors I've encountered ever. Exams are based on lectures and VERY fair, he gives tons of partial credit and is always accessible at office hours and after class. You can tell he truly cares about his students. Study, do the homework, participate class and you will basically secure an A!
Calculus will be hard, unless you have a professor that hands over As like nothing- it will take work. Gilmore is definitely one of the best professors to take. Exams are super fair and he will always prepares you very well for them. Best prof I've ever had fs, u will learn a lot and getting an A is basically guaranteed if u acc put in some effort
taking professor gilmore was an incredible experience, he made calculus extremely easy and accessible, he was really test heavy but had no homework, it was directly correlated to quizzes which were open note and only ten points, would definitely reccomend taking this prof but prepare to self study outside of class too.
Lectures are a bit boring, but they are dense with information. He is very generous with partial credit for exams, as long as you show understanding of the concepts. Office hours are twice per week, and he was always there and happy to help. This isn't high school geometry class, so expect to spend up to 10 hours per week studying and doing hw.
