Nice guy but not a good teacher. Let's stupid people dominate class discussions. Not clear in his expectations. Don't think I learned a thing
He is a nice guy, but he never follows through with his word. He has told us numerous times he would post material to BB and never did. always has an excuse. Took forever to get grades back on anything. 2 papers 2 write. quiz every class and 3 hrs straight lecture. Dont feel like i learned anything. Avoid this prof my all means necessary!!
I would have to agree with some of the comments before about the topics n grades n BB but everything else I would disagree. For a new teacher I feel he did a good job...I tried taking SOC101 before and that teacher was bad! I think this Professor did a good job! As long as you stay with the reading & handouts! You'll pass!
Great teacher!
Super nice guy! Awesome teacher!
Those bad comments are ridiculous. He's a really wonderful teacher. Funny, personable, intelligent, helpful, and gives an interesting lecture. The expectations of the course are clear and manageable. Really seems to enjoy his students and honors what they have to say. Great teacher and great guy.
i dreaded this class, i found him to be very stuck up and in my oppinion he did not sound like he knew what he was talking about. uses "visuals" that have nothing to do with his lesson. his tests have questions of things he NEVER taught//went over in class. i strongly disliked him. not a good teacher.
I believe that there should me more professors like him. He is energetic, funny, very likeable but most importanly he presents the material in a way that students can relate to. Disregard all the negative comments posted about him because those students are probably crying babies who didn't get a good grade.
smart teacher, very helpful. tests are hard if u dont read all of his readings overall fairly easy class
His tests are only on the lectures(outlines) and quizes. As long as you study a week or a weekend before an exam you will get a B or higher. The first exam was pretty hard though because of the wording which may trick you but other than that its all from the outlines-bold words. I didn't read the book once and sold it early. 4 papers due=easy
Incredibly proficient instructor. It is rare to find one so knowledgeable yet approachable He presented the subject matter very well and made you want to know more about it. He is also very dedicated to the student's success. You have to study for his exams but you don't have to memorize the entire textbook verbatim.A great professor overall
I had this teacher for the friday class. Hes a good teacher overall, just forgets to update your grades. You have 2 papers...which are easy but hes a tough grader. The tests are right off the notes...you have take home quizzes that are from readings. Its easy class if you pay attention. attendance is definitely mandatory if you want to pass.
super nice, super smart person. very helpful. 3 tests during class-the last one is not cumulative. 4 papers-easy and i would say he is rather easy on grading! for the exams you have to study to have a good grade.overall-he is great and made me think about the world in a different way.thanks!
He is a nice guy and gave great examples to help us understand concepts better, but he's very disorganized and never sticks to his word. He'll say he will post something and doesn't. And there's no extra credit, so tests are really important.
People think hes hard because of his tests, but all exam material is given to you in powerpoints so you know exactly what he wants you to know. Test are easy if you STUDY, mainly just matching definitions and some applying concepts. Also, there is extra credit, but only on tests. Just study and you'll be fine, hes a good teacher.Btw, I got an A
Exams are hard unless you study a lot, not just skimming over your notes a few times. He tries to trick you on the M/C ?'s on the exam. There are 2 papers. The papers are long and annoying. His lectures are VERY boring. His notes don't are hard to read and the material is, at times, absurd. I wouldn't recommend him, find another SOC 101 professor.
He is a nice guy and can be funny. But lectures are extremely boring. His test are difficult and require a decent amount of studying. He is very unorganized and is always pushing dates back due to his lack of posting things on time. He goes off on pointless rants multiple times during each class. But overall good teacher and easy to understand.
TAKE HIM NOW! He is SUCH a good teacher. 3 exams (not cumulative), no final, 2 papers (which suck, but they're do-able), & 7 take home quizzes. Don't need to read the book; he never tests from it. Take good lecture notes, go to class, and you'll get a good grade. He's interesting & teaches you so much about SOC. & he's funny! 10ptsEC & on tests too
GREAT TEACHER! He's so interesting & funny! Pay attention, go to class you'll be fine! Great examples, & very helpful! Does take a long time to grade, and posts things later, but always switches the date later if he messes up. He gives you up to 10 points of extra credit as well as on the tests. no final & exams arent hard as long as you study. :)
Hard exams, no notes or power points just him rambling on and getting off topic. Gives you an outline of the exam that is completely useless I strongly recommend selecting a different professor.
Easy going guy. 3 tests. Final is not cumulative. He gives outlines for notes which is really helpful. Just show up for 95% of the classes and you'll be just fine. There are 2 essays but they are easy. This class is an easy A. He gives 2 extra credit options to boost your grade as well. Boring class, good teacher (I don't like Soc)
Textbook is NOT needed. The majority of the test questions come off the outlines which can be printed. 7 take home quizzes, 3 tests and 2 papers. Great guy and makes class fun. Tests are hard but if you study you should be fine. He also gives two extra credit opportunities. He is very knowledgeable about sociology an overall a great professor.
He doesnt know how to teach, hes always saying he teaching because harper pays him. i wouldnt recommend this useless guy
great teacher but tough class. always willing to help you out and gives 4% extra credit(really easy stuff) a lot of easy hw but tough papers and tests are virtually impossible. if you dont have to take soc dont.
I absolutely loved this class! He is a great professor and has done a lot of interesting research.
He's pretty cool & definitely knows his stuff but he has a hard time getting students to grasp the same ideas. His class is a little harder than an intro course should be & he doesn't give good notes, but he is willing to answer any questions and try to clarify anything you don't understand. Very approachable, but very passionate about the subject.
Good guy but not the best teacher. He is confuzing and goes off on tangents. He is a hard teacher and makes sociology difficult to understand. There are 2 essays and a 7pg book review, you have to study extra hard for his tests. If you do you will get an A.He doesn't give study guides, only outlines and doesn't tell you what will be on examsjuststructure
Very hard working teacher with high expectations from students. Makes class interesting.
His study guide are not helpful, all of his test are trick questions. He is unreasonable and will not work with you when you ask for help. He claims the material he posts on blackboard along with his study guides are used in the test, completely false. I find him arrogant and a know it all, the material used for this class was so out of date.
Pros: He knows what he is talking about, and he loves helping people understand more about sociology. Cons: He doesn't lecture everything from the outline that he provides, and he is really slow with replying to students on a number of occasions. Overall: Not a too difficult of a class, but there is a lot of work.
He was a nice guy but not the greatest of all teachers. He is very strict about the take home quizzes. the course is comprised of 1 essay 1reachers paper, 10 take home quizzes and tests. his notes are sub par and i feel he dose not really look at your work. i suggest you choose a different teacher
he does a decent job explaining notes in class but doesn't always say what's exactly on the test from each outlines. outlines can be confusing. 5 PAGE PAPER! AND 10-15 PAGE BOOK REVIEW! meeting with him doesn't help because he's smart and acts like everyone knows what he's talking about already.
Great teacher! He knows his stuff. He is helpful , approachable and friendly. If you do the work he will make sure you pass the class. He doesnt have time for slackers. He gives you an outline to follow as he teaches so you cant miss an anything. He sees you as an adult and treats your with respect. Take his class, you wont regret it!
He's helpful and has outlines of what he wants you to know for the tests. He's super into teaching this course and is very clear with what he wants. As long as you attend class and know what he wants you to, easy A.
Exams are questions not even touched on in class, the answers are those that seem to try and make sure you get it wrong. He rambles and get's off topic. Gives you an outline of the exam that is completely useless. The material is out dated. Appears he has no passion for teaching, obviously just a JOB.
He is really interested in Sociology and knows alot, laid back and cool. Theres 3 exams, 1 10page paper, and 10 take home quizzes. The quizzes are easy and most of the exam stuff is given to you on outlines. If you study its not that hard, i got an A
I thought he was a real cool guy, very interesting, funny, and nice, He's really helpful if you go into see him. He's kind of hard but the class is very interesting. Get help right away from him. I fell behind but he's the man.
Took his online class during the summer and it was fairly easy. We had 5 modules. For each module we had a discussion post, a 500 word reaction paper and a test. The only thing I had trouble with were the tests because his questions were a little specific.
He knows what he is talking about. He is very chill and laid back. 2 exams, 1 Ten page book review, 10 EASY take home quizzes, and 4 writting assignments. you have to try hard to fail this class. if you do poorly on the book review and you do moderately okay on the tests, you will still pass the class
This is the best socio teacher you can possibly take! There is no text book however there is a chapter book you read and do a review on. He gives out an extra credit opportunity! His lecture notes are all you pretty much need to know in order to pass his tests. ALL the quizzes are take home. He is fair and explains everything you need to know!
If your someone who is always on time, this class if for you. if your like me however, dont take this class. if there is homework due, quizes due, or TESTS due that day and your 5 minutes late. Boom you get a zero. and he literally said he doesnt care if your car didnt start. your late your late.
He is a mess!!! He is not organize at all. HE even gave us the wrong exam once and make us do it again!
He's a really nice and funny guy and knows his stuff. If you are someone who is never on time, DO NOT take this class. All assignments and quizzes are due right when class starts and he will not accept them after he has started lecturing. Some pretty long writing assignments, but not too bad. I also took his 101 class which is very similar.
This guy KILLS IT. Really funny, very sincere and honest. He allowed me to pass because he see's the value in school which is to GET THROUGH It. He is the coolest, I learned a whole lot even though I got a C. Super awesome person, Don't listen to the people that didn't like him. They are probably bad at life. Gramlich is not. Fantastic human being.
This is one of the best professors I have ever taken. The lectures are amazing and so interesting. If you like psychology, like me, take SOC101 with Professor Gramlich! Have to write summary essays (2-3 pages). Very little extra credit, so do well on the tests. The tests are based off lectures, no book.
Gramlich is one of my favorite professors! Provided outlines for note taking- outlines include everything that will be on test. Tests are multiple choice; sometimes includes written extra credit portion. No book, short 3-6 page readings with easy 10 question multiple choice homework quiz. 3 papers- summary of reading, lowest paper grade dropped.
He pushes his opinions onto the students and acts that his viewpoints are superior to anyone else. Plus, he does not back up his opinion with data. It sounds convincing, but be aware that just because he has an elaborate vocabulary does not mean everything he says is true. He also shames successful people.
This is the best professor at Harper College. Finally a course that is all about what is happening right in front of our eyes in the world. Come to class & study. This class is mentally challenging because it makes you think outside the box, what's wrong with that? Take any one of his classes and you will leave feeling inspired & wise. Recommend!!
Professor Gramlich is one of my favorite professors at Harper. His lectures are so interesting. No textbook , write 3 summaries of long (8-9 page readings) , tests are not that hard. Not an easy A, makes you work hard. Took so much out of this class. So glad I took sociology with Gramlich!
Get another teacher who knows how to teach as well as lecture one who doesn't play games and likes to twist your mind. Too much, not fair especially when it comes to testing. Advise you not to take unless you are majoring in it. A major let down for beginners. Never stays in one place while lecturing he is all over the place . You have been told.
Absolutely hated this class. The stuff he talks about is somewhat interesting but all in all I dreaded going to this class. Super boring, never used my textbook once.
The class was taught without a text. There were some supporting articles, but most of the content was from lecture. This is fine, but he encourages class discussion, which resulted in our skipping some material. Two short writing assignments, a paper, and some multiple choice quizes and exams. Sounds like a lot, but wasn't hard. Really enjoyed it.
Dr. Gramlich is a great professor. He is a straight-forward guy and what is on his syllabus goes. If you pay attention in class and take notes during his lectures (which are lengthy, but interesting) you can ace the tests. Tests can be tricky but it's mostly vocab. He can be very funny too. He is sometimes a little disorganized though.
I think he is a great teacher, and I am very picky with teachers. He is strongly opinionated, but it didn't get to the point where I found it annoying. He likes class discussion, but he won't pick on you in class or anything. He's really good about answering emails and is definitely willing to help you. The work is really easy! Take him!
Great Professor, very motivational and funny. He talks the whole class no power points or slides to take notes. You have to take them while he talks. Tests are easy if you study your notes. Have 3 papers that are 3-5 pages long where you summarize readings of sociologists. If you like sociology you will like this professor.
This course was really insightful,I like him, he makes you work for your grade, but his class is doable,I'm really into the material and I really reviewed for the final and I ended up so close to a B. l learned how to write summary papers in 800-900 words, and in own words,it was a challenge until I went to the writing center.
I liked Professor Gramlich, very nice and there for you if you need help. Tests aren't too bad. As someone who found very little interest in sociology throughout the course, the lectures felt very long. Take good notes and you will do okay. Don't miss class, his notes are not powerpoints, you must show up to write your notes!!!
His lectures where good. He is pretty hilarious. If you ask for the help he'll do what we can to help you understand what is going on in class. Take notes in class, he doesn't use powerpoints. He assigns a few papers and readings. All around a great teacher
His lectures are long, but the time will fly by. He is funny in his own ways. His shirts are hilarious. Everyday it was something different. But just make sure you go to class. There is no study guide but he gives you an outline and you take notes everyday. 3 papers. But he drops the lowest grade. Same thing for the exams. 5 exams just take 4
Professor Gramlich made me want to major in sociology. Taking his classes was one of the best decisions I made. College is supposed to challenge your mind & make you think, this is exactly what Gramlich is all about. Pay attention, as you will be confronted with the material in your daily life! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
His lectures are hard to follow because they are mostly off topic. He moves way too quickly. His tests are very challenging. Overall this was a hard class, only because of the professor.
I've never had a teacher so self centered. He has you read his dissertation and right summaries on them, they aren't interesting. There is no book for the class which at first seemed great but in the end wasn't so great because he does not stay on topic so if he didn't talk about it class you then you were out of luck because he is your one source
Jim is a great teacher and a great guy. He's engaging, passionate, helpful, knowledgeable... The whole nine yards. One of the best professors I've ever had. The only word of warning I have is this: his tests are devilish. Class participation and studying are ESSENTIAL. As long as you put in the work, though, he'll work with you to help you succeed.
None of the lectures are online so to class you must go. His lectures can get a bit boring. He knows his stuff so if you've got a question he'll have an answer. 4 tests, 2 papers,10 quizzes, and participation is what you'll be graded on. The final is optional, however he does drop your lowest test score with what you get on your final.
Gramlich is hilarious. He cracks jokes about our society that we can all honestly agree on. He makes you feel while learning. He makes you want to change our society, challenge the norms. I think if a professor can have that effect on you, then they are doing one hell of a job. Just be mindful that he does talk through the whole hour and fifteen.
The Professor Tries To Crack Jokes All The Time. He Is Very Hard To Follow, So Pay Attention. I Would Not Recommend This Professor.
Mr. Gramlich is a good professor. His lectures are not bad to listen to but his test can be annoying to take. He gives out quizzes during the week that are homework, those quizzes are paired up with a reading. They can be very long after the first chapter. He also incorporates a lot of reading on the exams. So read outlines and readings well.
DECENT
Tests are very tough and all multiple choice. expect lots of challenging and tedious tests, reading quizzes, 8 point assignments and reading responses for participation credit. This class should not be labeled as an intro level. I felt as though it was very difficult even when i studied for tests. The work load was very high for an intro class.
Take him!!!! He somehow made a depressing class fun :) If you study for the test you will get an A. The rest of the material is just busy work.
I started the class with a high level of optimism and interest. But as the class continued I realized this professor is teaching an introductory course at a graduate level. He was difficult to follow during class and hard to communicate with outside of class. His approachability is minimal and under no circumstances is challenging him acceptable.
AWESOME GUY!! so smart and respectable.
He does well to explain the concepts and material taught, especially over a summer course. He is fairly reasonable in terms of his homework and testing. The only problem that I have is that if you try to challenge him, he will use his teacher abilities to try to stump you, from what I have noticed. Just don't challenge him.
He is a tough grader, we have multiple quizzes to turn in throughout the semester and he collects them within the first minute of class, one he collects them he will not accept any. His grades are heavily based on quizzes and tests therefore if you struggle in that area your grade will reflect that and he does not give opportunities of redeeming.
Ok wow... One of my favorite professors at Harper. He's very interesting and his lectures are not boring. There's no textbook so he is very lecture-heavy. His tests are so difficult and so are the readings. Lots of reading in this class. You have to read at least most of the material to do good on the exams. He knows what he's talking about!
He's a likeable person and class is not that boring for a professor who talks literally the entire time every class. He hates being challenged even if you have a valid argument. Homework and quizzes are easy but the tests are ridiculously challenging, so much so that the class average test scores are all under 65%.
Gramlich teaches this class like it's a masters degree seminar. His exams are devilish. This is NOT an easy A, you have to really work for it. I would take this class with Edwards when she teaches it. He is cool and smart but this course is more like a level 300 class in difficulty. If you're up for the challenge, go for it.
Best sociology professor at Harper hands down. He is a bit lecture heavy so if you miss a class make sure to partner with another class mate to get the notes from the day missed. The tests are extremely easy if you study.
Dr. G is a passionate and helpful educator. Low class avg. grades because people at Harper don't know how to take notes/study. His papers are easy if you follow his directions, the tests are 75% vocab-- make flash cards. Inspiring lecturer -so don't miss out by ditching class. Weekly homework assignments on interesting readings. Best Harper prof.
Took him in the summer. He gave lots of reading quizzes (take home) based on very complex readings and will ask for a reading response for every reading. Will only accept quizzes if turned in before lecture starts so make sure you go to class. Lecture is sometimes hard to follow but it is interesting and you will learn a lot. Everything is lecture.
Professor Gramlich is a nice guy, but teaches a different way. If you are debating on taking him for Sociology 101, do not take him. I repeat do not take him. He is the only sociology teacher who does not use a textbook and teaches you through history and readings that were written in the 1800s. Very hard to follow along.
hes DOPE
James Gramlich is by definition what a good teacher should be. If you show up to class and be an active student, as you should be, it'll be an easy A. The readings are interesting and the papers are not difficult, you just need time management. Professor Gramlich is hilarious and super dedicated to this field. You won't regret taking his course!
Gramlich is such a Nice, Dope and informative teacher. His lectures can be pretty long time, yet I have learned so much about the subject. Easy homework quizzes and moderate assignments and tests. Studying and participating is a must, but I definitely recommend taking his class. Also, It was pretty nice not having to buy a textbook for his class.
The first day of this class I knew I had a great professor. His exams focus on what we discuss in class, so it's important to show up. You'll be glad you did. His lectures are very easy to follow and understand what he is teaching. I've never had a teacher who has kept me so engaged in lecture. Prof. Gramlich really cares about his students as well
I personally loved this professor! I didn't really know what to expect at first, but right off the bat, he made the class a whole less stressful. He gives amazing lectures and really makes you think about the world around you. I feel like I'm a lot more knowledgeable now about our economy and society. He's a real gem!
Literally he cant teach at all. Just talks. I know he is very intelligent in the field of sociology , but that does not mean he can teach college students. He just talks through the readings does not teach and cant explain anything, so confusing and as tough as the subject of sociology already is, he cant teach it, take with someone else
Gramlich is smart, insightful, and interesting. Hes a Marxist sociologist & hardcore socialist. You cannot challenge him and his ideology, he is very one-sided on everything. I can listen to him lecture for hours honestly. I have learned SO MUCH from him in the 2 classes Ive had with him. Take him if you want to learn and work hard!
Just look at the outlines given, those are the words and concepts that are on the test. If you study, you will get an A.
Gramlich is a complicated professor. He is very caring for his students and is extremely blunt about his expectations. These expectations, however are very strict. Not an easy A. Not too much reading with the use of Ctrl F, so that's a positive. The tests are a bit unfair also in that he asks questions about things we weren't taught. (Google-Yay)
Dr. Gramlcih really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. However, he does make you work for your grade. The assignments are not hard, but require time and effort to be completed properly. All the tests are online. There is no textbook required, so it is mandatory to attend class to receive the information needed to be successful.
Please take Gramlich. One of my favorites at Harper. The material can sometimes be challenging to understand, but he will always clarify as much as you need. The four assignments take a lot of work and time but are straightforward. Exams are online, which is amazing! His perspective on the world is so interesting, and I recommend him for sociology!
Ive never rated a professor before, until now. Ive never dreaded taking a sociology class or even any class until I had Professor Gramlich. Being that now were in the era of covid youd think teachers would take it easier on you, but hes not one of them in fact he made it even harder. Worst profesor ever, dont waste your time.
He did well teaching online this FALL 2020! I thought it was gonna be tough but it wasn't!! Straight up the main thing you need to do to pass this class is to read, write, and comprehend. Follow the outline. Literally, if you memorize the outline you will pass. Tip: Read the readings carefully because all the quizzes are straight up on the reading
Terrible professor, especially during a global pandemic. Didn't cut us any slack due to COVID and very little opportunity to get your grade up. A ridiculous amount of reading then no study guide or review for exams, essentially, have to read 50 pages of reading and hopefully you retain the right information for the exam!
The lectures are so packed with random examples and contradict what is read so come test time you're not sure if the answer is his or what is read. Very confusing. There's outlines given that are 12 pages- so its not really a study guide its just a shortened version of all the readings. Nice person but I cannot get behind his teaching style.
I genuinely enjoyed him as a person, which is why I am disappointed. He seemingly is not very accessible, considering how infrequently he responds to my emails, which is very frustrating. He's a very tough grader and you will have to work your butt off to receive a decent grade in his class. Again, real nice guy but would not personally recommend.
He is an awesome teacher and is super knowledgable and approachable BUT this class is not an easy class whatsoever. You will have to work for your grade and put in time for this class! Other than that, he is great! If you enjoy sociology or are pursuing it, take his class!
I got a 56% overall. He didnt cut anyone any slack for being in a pandemic. Gave us about 50 pages to read, if you even remember all of it for the big tests or quizzes. Takes forever to grade so i didnt know i was failing until finals week. Has to be the hardest and worst class ive taken. Im sure hes a great guy tho
Great professor! You really have to put in the effort to get a decent grade in his class since it is not an easy A. I recommend since he gives really good feedback. also recommend flashcards for the tests !!
failed me because i was 0.5% below the passing mark. The littlest smidge and he was a crap teacher.
He is a really great professor and he made class fun sometimes. I wouldn't recommend this class unless you need it for a credit. If you don't send in your first draft of your assignments you most likely will fail them. he did have a review session and if you could not attend he would record them so you would watch it when you can.
Professor Gramlich was intimidating as all can be in the very beginning. I hated how he taught things but came to like how it all was structured later on in the course. He makes you do a lot of work, but it actually forces you to learn instead of just doing the assignments and passing. I liked the way he set everything up, I took him a second time.
It is a very challenging class but if you work hard and reach out to him with any concerns you'll be fine! His outlines are crucial to passing exams. He also curves so if you have a high B, you could end up with an A.
Great guy that genuinely wants you to succeed. Be sure to make time for this class and you'll have no problems. It taught me important time management skills while learning info I will actually use in my future. Gram is my favorite teacher ever and I would 100% take him again!
He's a chill guy that loves what he does. The class was interesting but you need to be on top of it. Good guy, good class, and I would take it again:) Gram is a real one
He shared too much unnecessary information during his lectures. I enjoyed them but felt like they did not match to the work given. You need to put a lot of work and time for this course.
All around perfect professor, only real complaint is that since he is obviously very passionate about his subject, he tends to trail off of the lecture to share interesting stories/studies instead of the specific material we need to know for classwork. Besides that, amazing soul, hilarious, sociable, awesome professor.
I had James he was an ok professor he talks a lot and he gave 4 writing assignments they are pretty easy. I recommend taking this class online because he just makes you watch his letcure videos he does give extra credit if you show up to class
Prof Gramlich is great and clearly cares about his job, but there is so much to read and watch. Time consuming but worth it
Funny and understanding dude. Easy class, 4 papers where you answer a couple questions. Tedious but not difficult. Exams and reading quizzes are online and open note, questions are basically fill in the blank from the textbook. Ctrl+F is the only thing you need to get through this class. Abundance of extra credit. Takes forever to grade though.
Easy class. Exams are online with the same questions as practice tests, and all answers can be found word-for-word in the readings. Lectures and the textbook are the exact same, so just pick one to read/watch. However, Gramlich has no clear plans for class meetings, incorporates his left-wing politics into the lectures, and is behind on grading.
Professor Gramlich is a nice individual. He assigns significant reading material that is not critical for your success in the class. He was very approachable and informed on the subject; however, he was not prepared to lecture or make the in-class time productive within a flipped classroom setting.
Very nice and knowledgeable professor who is very understanding but he has a hard time sticking to a schedule. He can take to grade assignments. In addition, class often strays from the topics which can be frustrating.
great guy, but I don't understand why it's in person if all the job is done at home. All the material is published on YouTube in almost hour long videos (you have to watch 3 of them per lecture - by watch I mean WATCH to take notes and write papers well). Exams are online and super easy. Good class, just too time consuming because of all the videos
Gramlich is very understanding and relatable. Your overall grade consists of many different categories because he understands some people are not good test takers. Lectures are recorded and need to be watched outside of class. Assignments require a lot of writing but they are pretty easy, just time consuming. Plus he wears fun t-shirts
Professor Gramlich's class is very well-organized. He clearly outlines everything you need to know and sets clear expectations in the syllabus. If you follow his instructions and stay on top of the work, you'll do well. However, if you fall behind or don't put in the effort, it will be challenging to succeed.
Professor Gramlich is engaging and genuinely wants students to succeed. The workload is manageable if you stay on top of it. Leveraging resources like Unstuck AI along with the textbook can make studying more efficient. Overall, a worthwhile course.
Assignment one feedback was needed for two, and two for three and so on, he graded all of them late and remained a tough grader. Assignments three and four ended up being due on the same day and his in person class was heavily online. You needed to go for attendance but every assignment was online, and so were the lectures. Does offer extra credit.
He talks way too much. Always went off topic. No wonder why attendance was mandatory cause no one would show up. His homework and tests were all online which made things really easy. But I would nearly fall asleep in his class. If you can deal with that take his class cause work is easy and he's understanding if you need to leave the class early.
Professor Gramlich is very passionate/knowledgeable about sociology. He repeats many of the answers for the essay questions multiple times. Just take notes, actually watch the lectures, and go to class. Getting an A is attainable if you do all your work. It is a lot of reading a writing, but deadlines are spread-out and he gives extensions.
Dude waits for the last week to grade everything and assigns way more work than he can handle. Besides that dude is cool I guess, he lectures everyday about the readings for like 5 minutes then talks about how Elon Musk is a billionaire and always brings up Matt Walsh which is so funny because he hates him. Class is boring, bring headphones.
I took him for 101 also, he's super chill. He gives you a ton of time for the two papers and allows extensions if you talk to him in person and email (do both, he's forgetful lol). Do all the quizzes and exams, they're free points.
He's funny, he does his lecture like its a conversation. all the work he gives is easy if you ACTUALLY read the course reading (Also he gives out worksheets for extra credit if you answer them/ or write your name for attendance). If you're a slacker then idek, but I would suggest him for those who doesn't wanna crash out. (he don't give much work.)
