whoa, homework is not colected but he exspects you to do a lot of it on your own, hours each night, tests are fairly hard and he goes over the same problem but shows a lot of different ways to do it and it can get confusing, over half droped in my calss
No homework ever collected, however if you do not keep up with the class you will most likely fail.
Hes a good teacher, and the exams are not hard IF you do the hwk, since the questions are very similar to the homework problems. However, no exams are dropped. More than half the class dropped.
This teacher is very difficult if you are not excellent in Math. If you miss even one day of class you will not understand anything for the rest of the semester. He's thourough and passionate about the subject but extremely hard!!!
Might be hard, but he's a good prof. Easy to talk to and willing to work with you outside class hours. There is no extra credit and tests are the only form of grading in this course. You can't slack off at all here. There's a lot to cover, n he covers it.
About 50 people were enrolled and only 15 or so seats were filled for the final. He's very strict and his tests are difficult (although he does provide a outline). There is no curve, even though only like 2 people had an A (starting with 50!).
I studied half as much for my calculus courses and recv'd good to excellent marks. Years later, I still joke with a friend about the bad dreams his pre-calc course induced. Don't take this course unless you desire a serious challenge.
I liked him so much. Yes he is hard but it's good prep if you are going further in math. He uses trig alot on his tests, but just pay attention in class and take notes and the tests won't be bad. No cumulative final though!!
Very straight forward guy. Tries to be funny at times, but doesn't work. Very detail on his lectures, but gotta keep up or else you'll fail. Also, DO ALL THE HOMEWORK or receive an F.
One of the best math profs ever! Very clear and the neatest handwriting ever. Class can get hard but just do the hw and your set.
He is a horrible instructor. Does not go over any of the material and does not care if you get it or not. He talks down to students as if they are beneath him and does not understand why you do not follow as he quickly breezes through the material.
he is the best math instructor ever in mesa. his teaching styles are great. unlike other instructors, he does not check homework. if you are a real student, you need to do beyond homework, as he say. that is what he believes in, and he is more than welcome to help each student anytime. any questions
Mr.Harter is an excellent professor. He gives difficult tests but prepares you well for them. He is definetly the best Math teacher at Mesa and has a great personality. The key thing to succeed in his class is to do the assigned hw.
Mr.Harter is one of the best teachers I've had. Not only is he good natured, but he can really teach in a way that you can understand and remember the materials. I'd recommend his class to anyone who loves mathematics.
He is one of the hardest teachers Ive ever had. He goes way too fast. There are 6 tests and a final. He doesnt drop any tests and does not give any extra credit. His tests are so not the same as the hw problems in the book.
This prof goes too fast to understand the material. At the end of the semester there were only 5 students left. He shouldn't be teaching at all.
Ill keep it short: he needs to work on his teaching style! His lectures seem like its on fast-forward or something.
Great teacher. Very fair and understanding. Students drop because they are not prepared not teacher's fault. Exams are like homework problems. Moves fast but no fault of his; because he has to cover a lot of material. I am ready for Calculus, R U?
He is an excellent Professor IF U LIKE MATH otherwise, go for an easier teacher, Mr Harter tends to go a bit fast-forward and skips around chapters, so math anxious people get lost easily, but if you like math, Im sure you'll enjoy his class, he is very nice, and throws in a joke now and then
it's no surprise why there were only 6 people enrolled in my class. he just sucks, period.
He knows his stuff and is willing to go above and beyond to help you out. He gives difficult exams but he doesn't assign that much hw. He will always go over examples and likes what he is doing. I would reccomend him if you like Math and are up for a good challenge.
This teacher is a good lookin guy (FOR MY MOM)but he teaches math as if we were at ucsd. He expects too much from the students.
Great teacher. Very prepared for class and knows his stuff. Willing to heelp during office hours. Homework isn't too demanding. If you don't like math, you're not going to like any math class. But if you have to take math, take Harter! He's a nice guy and you'll learn a lot.
Great Teacher. He demands alot, no credit for homework, the grade is all tests + cummulative final. Total of about 8 difficult tests. I'f you want to do well, you will. Important to budget your time with this class. I spent atlest 3 hours a night, and still barely passed. U gotta Lock it Up!!!
Very good teacher always has extra time to give extra explanation very strict attendance pollicies requires you to stay the full class time. He likes student that are dedicated on practicing the homework even though oesn't give credits for it. Tests are hard but if you study you will pass has alot of knowledge in math, definetely recommend him...
VERY HARD CLASS...really nice guy, but moves very fast...hes very knowledgeable in math. Whole grade is dependent on tests....some extra credit on tests...homework is optional..but if its not done, you will not pass.
BEST teacher ever! He explains the material very thoroughly. His expectations are very high, so if you are not willing to dedicate the time, find another class. Take advantage of his office hours. Homework is not collected, but if you want to pass the class, do the work. He is a fantastic teacher, I completely recommend him.
Professor Harter is very dedicated to his students. Trys to add a bit of humor into everyday lectures. He covers the material very fast, but will always stop if you have a question. His class is very hard, if you want to pass the class you must put foward effort. But he really cares about his students, tutoring is always available. great teacher
Best math teacher that I've ever had. He is really helpful and wants you to learn the materials. And sometimes he is a little funny in the class which is good because you don't get bored. Just do the homework and ask him your questions he is always there to help you, and you will get what you want in his class.
Mr. Harter is a fascinating teacher. He explains complicated concepts so students understand, & does so in a caring way. Tests're hard (it's Calc - you have to work hard) but fair, & all's covered in class. He's a good man, like old-time teachers were, & is genuinly interested that students learn; encourages office hrs visits. Best Math teacher!
This professor is very inteligent. I took him for 96 and found him very helpful. He had office hours almost every day, and also used fridays for office hours encouraging you to go to learn the difficulties you had dring the week. IF you really wanna learn math THIS is the professor to take. He will prepare you very well for the following math cours
Mr. Harter is highly skilled in the subject that he's teaching. His tests are quite hard, but if you dedicate your time to studying his in-class lecture notes and doing your homework then you should do fine in his class. He's one of the best math teachers at Mesa because. He will truely prepare you for the next math course that you plan to take.
He is the best math teacher I've ever had. He loves teaching and he shows that in every class, a greatly dedicated teacher to a beautiful class.
This is the Best professor I've had in the US! Mr. Harter is a very nice person. He teaches awesome, and doesn't forget about humor too! He's very helpful! Besides office ours he lets you come to his office also fridays. He will be glad if you want to learn something. He grades tough at the beginning of the semester, but... STUDY - YOU HAVE AN A+
By some stroke of luck i found myself in Mr Harters class. Not only is he very knoledgable, but he knows how to teach and teach well, by far the best teacher i've had. If my luck continues i'll be able to take him again in the future!
Mr. Harter is a very good teacher. He explains complex subjects in easily understandable terms and takes them time to go through the information step by step. He is one of the few teachers, I have ever had, that knows what he is talking about, effectively teaches the topic, and gauges the level of understanding of students well.
I really liked this guy. He's easygoing and playful, and though he expects students to study hard he doesn't grade anything but tests. He's always happy to help a confused student during break or after class. Also, he's very specific about what to study for the tests which is awesome. I'll definitely be taking his class for Pre-Calc.
A great professor. I hated math before I took his class but now that I understand it I actually think it's ok. He really wants you to do well in the class, keep up with the homework and you will do great.
HE IS HORRIBLE!!!! he must have written the below comments himself because he is not helpful, he is very rude and disrespectful to students. I have been an A student in math most of my life and I had to drop out of his class before I failed. He tests on things he doesn't teach! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
Harter is a good teacher, undoubtedly. I learned a lot from his class and am glad I took it. However, he didn't like me very much so that made the class less fun. As long as you don't talk, then you should get along with him and learn a lot. He is a good teacher with a lot to offer, and I recommend him to anyone looking for a good math teacher.
amazing!!! his tests are hard but he tells you exactly what to study for. attendance not required but he quickly dislikes you if you miss his class. if you don't plan on attending than don't waste his time. the only bad thing is he skips the what seams to be easy steps in his lesson which looses the student which is hard when 1st learning something
Harter is harder!!! he is lame teacher who does not care how u r doing in his class. he always gives u one thing but tests on another. DON'T TAKE HIM!!!
If you don't get it go to office hours, REALLY helps. You have to show you care for him to care - and don't feel stupid going - it SAVED me. Another thing, he does not collect homework, DO IT, and if you don't get it or his explanations in class, go to his office hours, REALLY helps. You have to ask him for help if you need it though.
THIS GUY IS A GENIUS!!! Take his class!! Easy A+, I never showed up to class yet I owned it up. Over 75% of the class got As. The rest got Bs and i think this one guy got a C but he didn't even try to do well on the tests.
He is really good but you have to extremely good in trig
HAIL HARTER HE THE IS GREATEST MAN IN THE WORLD HAHAHHAHAHAHAH HE GAVE ME AN A+. HE IS SOOOOO EASY AND I NEVER CAME TO CLASS!! I OWNED UP THIS CLASS TOO E ZZZZZZZZ.
DO NOT TAKE MR. HARTER, he's a HATER. If you are not good in math do not take him. I switched to Ken Kunyuki's and got an A. Harter just writes problems from the book on the board and solves them, not explaining anything along the way. He gets the award for worst teacher ever! STAY AWAY!
Theses other people on here must not have the same harter, because if you miss 3 classes he drops you, so i dont know how you got an A+ with out going to class??? STAY AWAY from this guy. hes not ment to be a teacher. i think he posted the good previous feedback!
Professor Harter expects a lot of you, and he teaches really well! Many problems on tests are also on homework, and he lets you know beforehand exactly what kind of problems will be on the test. Very clear, concise. I recommend doing at least some of the optional homework.
Sit down and can your whining, this class requires you to do every freakin h/w problem especially the last ones, which are insanely hard. DO THE HOMEWORK And youll be ok. If you dont get it , ask him. This class is for people that like to study and learn. If you get an A in his class, you will be successful in the next level.
This was the one class I studied hard for because I knew this teacher would be extremely hard. I even got a tutor from the get go and met with my tutor a few times a week. I studied for hours on end for his tests everyday and I would answer his questions right in class and just wen I thought I'd ace his test he'd giv me low grade
Dudeee, professor Harter is one of the most intelligent, interesting, fair, and humorous professors. No homework collected, but you have to (better) do it. Tests are fairly decent, not too hard. Take homes are not very easy...the guy overall is AWESOME!
nice guy but thats where it stops. u ask him questions and he avoids answers. not helpful besides office hours sometimes. Test=84% of grade Final= 16% of grade. avoid at all costs this dude sucks
if ur not great at math then dont take him!!
It is not an easy class, the subject is hard. The teacher is helpful if you ask. Tests are similar to what he teaches. If you attend class, study the lecture, and do the homework you will do fine. He gives extra cradit on the test. One thing I don't like is no homework collected.
Do not take his class, if you are not good at math. He assumes everyone is at a certain level and moves by each chapter very quickly and does not do a good job at explaining it. Also his grade scale is all based on 4 test and the final. And the only acceptable form of showing work is the shortcuts he gave you and you can only use his math techniq
1) homework is optional (but the HW is a mirror image of the test questions) 2) He outlines the exact format of the tests 3) patiently answers students questions until they grasp the material 4) Before his class math was hieroglyphics, now it is my first language 5)follow his lectures religiously 6) Simply the BEST math teacher I've ever had. 10/10
he is super nice and very funny, but if you miss a single lecture you're pretty much toast, he moves very quickly and his tests are very very hard, first day of class he told us that 1 person previous semester got an A, entire class failed first test... unless you have no other hard classes i would suggest taking someone else
An instructor who is as serious about the education he provides as he is humurous in its application. Down to earth and understanding. Easy to talk to and patient. Provides plenty of opportunity for one on one counceling.
Mr. Harter is a great teacher. His class is challenging and his tests are not easy, but if you study, do the homework and attend every class you should be fine. He will help you in any way he can. Ask questions! He also has tutoring sessions every Friday, which are very helpful! You will learn a lot if you take him.
Mr. Harter is a great instructor, very helpful and patient. The material is not easy (I failed it in high school!) but he tries to make it as clear as possible. He encourages students to go to his office hours on Fridays if needed. If you do the homework (not graded, but VERY essential) and attend every class, you'll pass easily.
I don't know how this professor got good reviews. I learned NOTHING from him, he jumps from subject to subject and assumes everyone is at a certain level (MATH major level!). You have to do the problems HIS way or he takes points off - that alone tells you he shouldn't be a math teacher. Not only tests are HARD but he isn't flexible when he grades
Great Professor. He is a true mathematician. You will learn a lot from him, his lectures are hard since he teaches you the hardest from every topic BUT that builds strong math skills. Take him, he prepares you more than any other for the upper math courses.
Honestly came into this class wanting to learn and got nothing. I now have to take another Math 96 class. He bases your grade off of tests. In my class everyone but a couple people were failing. Terrible teacher in my opinion stay away!
This professor is very helpful. With him i am confident that even though i am not really good at math yet, i can do better and improve myself. If you wanna pass his class thou there are few things to do 1.do your Hm (not collected), 2. attend every class meeting. 3. ask questions. if you need more help, he is willing to help during his office hours
He spells out everything the first day very clearly, but unless you do the homework and thoroughly understand the each section you will not get above a B
Professor Harter is helpful, patient, and funny. He teaches very well and shows you clear steps when solving problems. The class is not easy. Homework is optional, but the more you practice, the easier it gets, and it helps you do well on tests. He is willing to help you during his tutoring sessions and office hours, and you can learn a lot from him
I know this sounds weird but this class was harder for me then Calc 1. There's a lot to know, and it's not a plug and chug sort of class. Maybe it was his preparation that made calculus seem easy. Not sure. But he's a nice guy and gives good examples. Mood is very transparent at times but he is a good teacher.
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE!!! By far one of the worst math teachers I have had. I don't know how people think he is so great. Your whole grade is based on test only and he gives you the hardest problems. He is mean and goes through material very quickly. He doesn't care if you learn or not. He should not be teaching this course!!
Professor Harter is very articulate. However, I find he rushes through chapters at a pace that I cannot keep up with. I aced Math 46 last semester and am disappointed that despite my best efforts, I must withdraw from the course. Final grade is the average of tests only, so no extra points are awarded for homework. He doesn't utilize My Math Lab.
I've never had as much trouble with a class as I have had with Harter. I'm failing my first class in my life while trying as hard as I can. He speeds through chapters so fast you can't keep up. Probably 75% of my class failed. Unless you are a math GENIUS, take another Professor.
I took Harter's class knowing that he is hard, but he is seriously unreasonable. The amount of content he expects you to know is insane. Every other professor will give you a formula sheet, while he does not. His tests are neigh impossible. I got a B for the first one, and never saw a passing grade again. Harter is a cool guy, but and awful teacher
Heartless Harter is what they called him. More than half of my class dropped him midway through the semester because he was too hard. I failed the first test but buckled down and passed the rest. Try not to miss class. You'll be behind a lot if you do. He's not easy but stay focused and you'll pass. Pretty cool guy.
I took Harter for Pre-Calc and Calculus. He has the honor of giving me the only B's that I received at the community college level of my education. I thought I had difficulty learning the subject matter, but after having better teachers I realized that I just couldn't understand his method of teaching despite the hours of work that I put in.
While Professor Harter does not make this class easy, he does set you up very well for the next year. He is very helpful, and you can always go to him during office hours for assistance. This helped me greatly in this class, as he spent the extra time (that he didn't have in class) explaining things very well. Great guy too. HIGHLY recommend!
He is not an easy teacher. I practiced for HOURS and when it came to test time I would never get anything right. Your grade in the class is based on five equally weighted tests. I thought I could study and just do better on the next test, but it never happened.
He's the best professor I have studied in my life. The tests were not hard if you study them. I got almost 100% of the tests. He gave extra credict in the tests. I think people who told him hard are lazy.Everything he taught would be in the final test( even the extra credict problem) I will always miss him like the best teacher in mesa
His easiness is what you make of it and he is more than fair grading wise. More willing than any teacher ive met to go out of his way to help you instead of having to go to the tutoring center. Doesnt collect hw. Uses the textbook but always has a very thorough lecture written out. Handwriting ok you will figure it out. Wish he tought calc2+3.
i had respect for him until he said that an omega symbol was a W that went to hillcrest, it wasn't the first time he said that either, i regret not telling him off
Good teacher, knows his math. uses a lot of symbols, once familiar with the symbols class isn't bad. very helpful and passionate about students. no homework or quiz grades; only tests. he gives good information about what is on the tests. he is difficult but a good teacher.
avoid this professor, i have enjoyed taking math until i took this professor. His lecture is not layout correctly its hard to keep up with all the symbols he uses. His feedback are not clear. Does not give extra credit, and he does not give a practice exam ever. i would really reconsider taking this professor.
Too many symbols and shortcuts, hard to keep up with, If you don't do the homework, good luck getting a good grade on tests.
No partial credit, no curve, no flexibility, and little help! Sorry but had to drop this course for a second time!
Professor Harter is a great one. He knows how to teach and he explain how the things happens. If you do the Homeworks you will do great in class. If you need help he will be more than happy to help you. He loves when you bring doubts to class. Super recommended!!!
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR. He mixes trig, statistics, with elementary algebra. Being in his class was like being in a foreign language class. If your not a genius like harter keep looking! Your whole grade is based on tests and those tests are so hard!! I used to wake up at 5am just to study and still got C's. Like i said AVOID! there is much better!!
Professor Harter is tough but fair, friendly, and funny in the scientist professor kind of way. Grade are based entirely on tests and you will have to work for it. He does review and tell you what will be on the test before hand. Come to class, take notes, do homework, ask questions, and you will be fine. Would him take again if I could.
Harter is a great professor and has a commanding knowledge of the material. His lectures are quick but if you take notes and review them at your own speed the concepts become more clear. His test are difficult but fair and his reviews do well to cover what will be on the tests. Attend them because tests are the only thing that make up your grade.
He is a tough grader. He is extremely through in his class. He is very clear, and is the only professor I know of who gives the questions to the test before the test for students to prepare themselves before the test (people still manage to fail the class). This class is very difficult if you don't study. Also he gives the EC answer from the begin
He's a good professor and a tough grader.. Be careful when being absent out of class though. He will drop you. Doesn't seem to care about students and dropped me even with two absences out of three.
Go to class and take notes! The first test is the toughest but he always gives you a study guide. Once you get the study guide, take notes on what you need to know for each question. He doesn't assign any HW but be careful! Don't slack off. Grade is test-based only, and he doesn't drop any tests. He also lets you use older versions of the book.
If you are looking for a professor who will teach you, Mr. Harter is the one. He is very dedicated. Does two two hour lectures out of class for those who need help. Which really helped a lot. His class is not easy, you really have to work for it. But after taking his class, my Calc 2 class has been a breeze. I really recommend him.
No homework only tests, all evenly weighted. But seriously, do the suggested homework anyway. warm up problems are very important and should be taken as if they'll be on the test or something... ;) Very helpful in office hours and does extremely helpful study sessions for upcoming tests. After this course I came out much more prepared for calculus.
Took him for MATH96. He grades solely on tests, there are 5-6 exams and a final. Will replace your lowest test score with your final grade, if it is higher. Show up to class and take extensive notes and you will pass. I am bad at math and barely did the homework, still got an A. Do the homework for practice. Explains step by step, good at teaching!
I took intermediate algebra in high school and passed with a B but failed this class. The professor makes you feel stupid if you ask questions and he has the most monotone voice couldn't stand lecture. Tests almost every other week, doesn't check homework, 3 absences and he will drop you from the class. Definitely would not take his class again.
WOULD NOT TAKE AGAIN. You don't show up 3 times you're dropped. 100% tests does not grade homework either you do or don't. Take another teacher tbh get off this rate.
Great professor! He has a ton of knowledge and actually has standards; he doesn't conduct the class like it's High School. If you want to learn and put effort, take his class. If you need someone to hold your hand and be really easy, take someone else.
Take notes and do the application, you'll be fine. All the tests subjects covered in class's note, if you pay attention you will see the test is easy.
All you need to study for tests is your notes. :)
Fantasic instructor but old school. He explains everything so clearly that there is little need to do practice problems from the book. Your entire grade is dependent on how well you do on the exams. If you miss a class you'll be so behind. Show up and pay attention. He tells you exactly the type of questions on the test. Do not eat food in class!!
A month into his class I've already decided that I will take him again for my calc 1 class. He explains everything very well, he is hilarious, he gives out clear study guides before exams and the texts are literally from your notes or the study guides. Very awesome professor. If you want to really learn then take him
I have never enjoyed or done well in math, but Prof. Harter, who is a caring and knowledgable professor has really helped with that struggle. Homework is not mandatory, but I highly recommend doing it. Math can be a tedious subject, but he makes witty jokes and is very approachable if you need help. As he says, just don't panic and keep calm
James Harter has got to be one of the best math Profs that I have ever had. His class was HARD. His tests were very challenging however he always gave extra credit on tests so it was possible to get an A on tests while still missing points. I am writing this after just finish Clac 1 with an A, and I thats cause Harter prepared me very well for Calc
Prof. James Harter is one of the best math teacher I ever had, seriously, he knows what he is doing, he knows techniques of how to solve problems that will help you through out your next math courses. Approachable after classes, very productive to go to his office hours. Math 150 exams were challenging; which made the course very regarding.
Great professor but he makes you earn your grade. Three absences and he will drop you. Any questions you have about the subject he will explain right on the spot. His lectures are well planned out before he comes to class. He will also come to campus on Fridays to give extra help.
Very passionate with his teaching, this man prepare what he will teach a day before, for every lesson. You are in luck if you get a spot in his class. With 20+ years of teaching experience I don't think you will get anything better than that. If you are serious about learning, and put in the hours he will give you a great foundation for Calculus.
I had Harter for Math 141 had an amazing experience that I enrolled in his 150 class. Pay attention during lecture and do the homework even though it's not graded, the exams are hard but they're nothing you haven't seen in homework or in lecture notes. Go to his office hours for any questions and he will work with you until you understand the topic.
Caring, great lecture. A very smart guy, you know he is smart by the way he teaches. Hard to earn an A but a challenging course is always a great starter for the next course.
I took prof. Harter for Math 141, he was so good that I came back for Math150. His test are very straight forward, as long as you take notes. He gives you a review sheet before every exam and is available during office hours if you need extra help. He is a really nice guy, but you need to constantly review if you want to do well. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
He is a good person and truly understands math. He will take the time out of his day to do tutoring with you if you need help. Prof Harter is honestly a great professor BUT if your looking for an "easy A" prof, he is NOT your guy. He excepts you to know and understand what he teaches. You will be spending a lot of time studying for his tests.
He definitely knows his stuff. Lectures are well planned out. I just wish he gave exam reviews and that the entire grade didn't revolve around exams. He emails an exam review sheet but doesn't devote time in class for an exam review. His exams are very tough no doubt about it. I will have to repeat Calc 1. Going to take a different prof next time.
Lectures are clear and concise. Professor Harter will answer any question without being condescending and tries his best to explain everything clearly. Test are hard but he provides study guides. The entire class is based of off tests But he does have recommended homework.
although it's a hard class professor harter truly cares about the success of his students. I felt very discouraged after the first exam, but after going to office hours for extra help I was able to bring my grade up. don't be afraid to ask questions! the class is fast paced but he will always take time for extra explanation when needed.
Don't be afraid to go to office hours about homework and lecture questions, I got a horrible grade on the first exam and after consistently going to get help and asking questions in class I was able to finish with an A! The exams are HARD but if you're prepare you'll be able to finish with an A. Stay focused during lecture, it's a fast paced class.
Professor Harter really cares about the success of his students. Come to class, take notes, ask questions. While the grade is composed of 6 exams and no homework, if you study the class notes, do some homework problems, and look over the exam study guide that he sends out before each exam you will most definitely succeed in this class.
Coming out of this class I have gained a great foundation and confidence for the next math courses I want to take. If you are looking for an easy math course this isn't for you. Professor Harter definitely wants his students to succeed in future math courses and the level of difficulty reflects this. Come to lecture, take notes, and ask questions!
Look if you're the type of going to class and expect the professor to hand everything to you Professor Harter is not your guy:But he the one who will teach you not only math but how to study the subject. In order to do good in math is a matter of repetition, and he will make sure you learn that:STEM major?Take the hard but correct path,so take him
He knows the material well and is very accommodating if you need help outside of class. His class is very difficult though.
His class is tough, but it will leave you feeling prepared to take the following courses. I highly recommended showing up to all lectures and available office hours. You will need to put in effort and time to succeed, so do the assigned HW and study class notes. Would take him again if he taught Calc 2 or higher.
I really enjoy taking this class with professor Harter. He is always there to help. If you are willing to work hard and learn, it will pay off.
This was my second semester with a professor Harter. He helps a lot if you have any issues with homework or if you have any difficulties. Always accessible at his office, even not during the office hours. I used to come, almost twice a week, before the class for his help. I wish he was teaching MATH 151, so I could take him a 3td time.
I have taken Professor Harter for two semesters, and wish I could continue learning from him in the future. He is readily available to help if needed. He goes in depth for the proofs behind the equations, which offers a much greater understanding of the material. If you put in the effort, you will be rewarded for it. Hes a great mentor.
I've taken professor Harter for both pre-calculus and calculus, and I am very glad that I did. He is an extremely valuable resource for almost all mathematics based questions. If you are going to take higher math classes, I strongly recommend that you take his class, for you will learn the essential skills for whats to come.
Harter is a great professor. If you do the homework and take the time this class is not difficult. He is also available to help you outside of the class, which is amazing!
Hes a great person but a tough professor! You dont get credit for homework. He explains the material well in his lectures so if you miss class you do fall behind. You only get graded on test and there is no partial credit which makes it more difficult; so if you dont get a question right you get no points. There is also no extra credit.
Harter was a big step up in difficulty from previous math proffesors, but I appreciated it. I say "lots of hw", but it's never graded- just extremely important. He goes at a quick pace, and hw is all the practice you get. He's is a good teacher, he is funny, and he cares. Once he held an extra class just to ready us for an exam. Taking him again!
His class is all tests as far as grading. Study well and do the homework and you will get an A. It is completely effort based, there will never be a problem on a test that has not been covered and he sends a list of practice problems that are often arguably more difficult than the test questions before every test. Definitely the most satisfying A!
not clear on explanations and is unapproachable. Doesnt work with students who are having trouble.
Professor Harter is very approachable if you need help with understanding concepts and explanations. Homework is not for credit, but you should do them and look at examples in the book. You WILL see them on the exam!! Professor Harter short hands phrases with Greek letters, with use, it will become a second language. Take his class.
Very tough class and be prepared to spend lots of hours outside of class to prepare for his tests. Perfect for STEM majors who have to take all the calc series. Don't expect an easy A but go to his office hours, he sometimes drops useful hints for the exam.
Professor Harter is an excellent math professor. I will take his class again. For some students, this class is hard to get an A. It's true if you don't attend all lectures and make notes, and you don't do homework either. Office hours and Friday Meetings helped me solve all homework questions. I really enjoy taking his class.
I dont know what all these others reviews are about, but Im going to be real with you all. This guy is the ABSOLUTE HARDEST professor ive ever had. I went to ever office hour, tutoring, ALL the study guides and nothing helped for the exams. The exams had nothing to do with what we learned. Oh, lets not forget to mention your grade is ONLY EXAMS.
Harter showed very little concern and understanding as to why so many students dropped. His exam reviews and actual exam questions are not in the same league. I never missed a single class and went to extra study sessions but in the end they did not help. Take a professor who wants to teach and guide you not one who enjoys throwing curve balls.
I took Prof Harter's class fall of 2018. Harter is a dedicated teacher, you will have no problem accessing him out of class and he even came on Fridays just in case we needed help with the homework questions. The exams are not easy, but as long as you show up to tutoring hours and do the homework questions you will have no problem passing the class
I took his Precalculus class in Fall 2018. Your grade is based upon 6 exams. He does give Exam Review suggestions but, as it turns out, the Review does not prepare you for the actual Exam questions. How ironic?! A majority of the class left by the drop date for good reason. Consider this a warning! Signed, An Actual student in the course
Took his Fall 2018 precal. Always available on the weekdays, hold lengthy office hours Friday, Saturday and Sunday. He is caring and really wants his students to succeed. I attended most office hours, did the homework, exam reviews, and most importantly asked questions and vocal about confusions during lectures. I did really well in his class.
In retrospect, comparing this professor and my current, Professor Harter makes it unnecessarily difficult. I wouldnt buy the its meant to prepare you line. Im sure if anyone could look at the amount of students who fail his course statistically, the picture would be much more clear. Do yourself a favor and take literally anyone else!!!!!!
Took his Calculus class this semester. You have to put in a sufficient amount of time and effort to excel in his class. Do your homework and extra worksheet he sends out to you and you will do well. Really appreciate his commitment to helping students. Came in every Friday and Saturday for office hours and even Sunday before the finals to help.
Mr. Harter is the hardest working most caring teacher I've ever met. His lectures are well planned and the worked examples are extremely relevent to what you are expected to do on the exams. He has supplemental office hours on fridays and saturdays too. This is a very difficult subject but if you ask for help, he wont let you fail.
I took his PreCal and Cal in the spring. His class is intense and demanding, but put in the effort and you will do well. He will always be available (including weekends) to help and go over math problem with you. Very quick to reply emails with questions. I am in Cal II now and feel a lot more prepared and confident in my Cal I topics then others.
I took his Cal 1 class during Spring semester. He is very caring and easy to approach whenever you have questions. His class is pretty intense, but if you put your work and effort in it, you will get good grades in his class. He is also available whenever students need even if it is on weekdays. He will definitely give you good foundation in Math.
Great teacher, but only for those who know how to use him. He will teach you what you need to know; but if you don't do your end of the work, such as: attend class do the worksheets and homework study outside of class and most importantly ASK QUESTIONS IN CLASS you will not pass. You need to study for these kinds of courses, no way around it.
Be sure you cam concentrate on multiple things at once. He talks down to the whole class, particularly the women. He makes things overly complicated and doesnt let you work through the example problems on your own so you can learn it better, which is super important for math. Avoid at all costs!
Harter doesn't make anything easy. He gives you everything you need to prepare for exams but you really need to put in long hours to truly understand the material. I'm glad I took him for math 141 because I feel very prepared for 150 now but I put in much more work than I thought I was going to have to. grade is based on 5 exams and a final.
His classes are hard but they're not impossible. He is one of the most caring vested professors at Mesa. I took 141 & 150 with him, not easy A's but he gives you all the tools to succeed if you listen & go to office hours. I'm currently a student at Berkeley & his classes 100% prepared me for the rigor of classes here. Thank you Prof Harter!
This professor makes this class stupid hard. He takes at least a week to respond to emails and does not have an active canva account, you have to calculate your own grade. The grade is made up of 5 tests, and one final. The final replaces your lowest-scoring test. You have to be the best time manager to pass with more than a C.
Please, go to this man's office hours. it's all he wants. Also, work through a lesson in the book the day before he teaches it. He is not the best at explaining things and only goes through some important stuff one time. TAKE NOTES of everything he writes, he will likely put it on a test. study hard. good luck, he is hard.
Terrible professor. He's bad at explaining concepts. He also makes his exams ridiculously hard for no reason and will take points off for every mistake. Take other professor if you can.
Very sad that he didn't teach us when it changed to online class. Before was fine. Exams were not easy, but work hard, you could get a good grade.
He wasn't good at explaining especially since there was just too many things to cover. I asked him for help once, if I'm on the right track to solving a problem, he did not even take a look at my paper and told me to go redo it straight away. Half of the class dropped after the 2nd test. He legit said that he purposely makes tests really hard.
I took PreCalc and Calc with Professor Harter and he was very challenging. Be prepared for a lot of studying and hard work. A girl in my class slacked off and failed. Other than that, he really cares about his work and his students. If you take his class, show him you really care and he'll take you more seriously!
Humble professor, humbling class.Considers himself a tourguide, bc most of understanding is on your own.Dont be mislead, hes with you every step of the way if you actively show you care.He cares alotabout his students, was willing to push back a test.KEYGo to officehours, get a mathbuddy,do HW(notgraded),& show up to class(helps borderline grades!)
One of those classes where the professor thinks he's the guy from Whiplash. Expects you to spend many hours outside of class learning the subject, horrible at explaining subjects, extremely tough on grading. Tends to introduce the most fundamental basics of a topic during a lecture, then tests on extremely difficult interpretations of that topic.
Professor Harter is one of the kind. he doesn't let stone unturned and questioned unanswered. you really have to know basic trig to do well here. Math is cumulative so if you are scathing by, you might not be very lucky in calc 2 regardless the professor. Warning: this class involves thinking.
I liked harter he was very accessible outside of class. He always answered every question. His exam were very challenging. Unless you have like only three classes and a lot of time to study, I would not take his class. This class was very hard
Decent lectures and coursework. Material isn't easy but he will try to help you. Nice guy but I still feel like we all got the business.
This class was VERY hard because the test were the only percentage that makes up your grade. Doing homework is so important in this class. This professor is a really nice old man who genuinely wants you to pass the class and gives you example test questions and offers personal office hour tutoring. But take this class ONLY if u want a challange.
Great Math Prof. I took him for pre-calc, and it 100% prepared me for Calc I&II. No ridiculous homework assignments, no silly pop quizzes, just the textbook, the lectures and the exams. Great professor, I'd highly recommend taking him for any math course. He also does 3-hour study sessions every week with his classes so that's a benefit as well.
Good Prof. You will learn mathematics, pre-calc was tough but like I said I learned a lot.
Professor Harter is a kind guy, you just have to get used to him. Sometimes it is awkward when he just writes on the board and stares at you, but it is because of his age. It's also a good thing because it gives you more time to understand what he writes down. But he really tries to help you learn.
