I am still in his class but i love it. He keeps it very interesting. You dont need a textbook. As long as you come and take notes and study your syllabus you will pass
Very easy teacher. Book only needed if you don't go to class. Knows what he was talking about. Great PowerPoints. Tells you what's gonna be on the test. Interesting lectures. Only gets mad if he sees you using your phone. Only 4 tests that make up your grade and they're multiple choice and fill in the blank. And Easy! Take this teacher!!!
He's a really laid-back professor. Has really good power points for notes. He gives out helpful reviews. When you come to class, please pay attention its the least you can do. You barely need to the book, the only time you need it is when you're absent or you need more clarity about a certain subject. I recommend his class
Typical lecture, but i found it quite interesting. He adds random fun facts of history in his lectures. Dont need the book! The whole semester is 3 tests and the final, no homework! Tests are really easy if you go to class and take notes and theres no writing except on final. I definitely recommend this class.
I loved this class! He is a great teacher. No textbook required, just come to class and take notes. He is a very good speaker and makes it easy to pay attention. Knows a lot about history and really seems to enjoy his job.
Just the best. Take him if you have the option
Just follow his notes and you'll be fine. If your having problems then just ask or email him. He always replies back, and does what ever he can to help.
Makes history so interesting, his lectures are anything but boring!
If you take notes this class will be a breeze. He tells you what you need to know. I love history and he made it even more entertaining. I wish I would have taken him for both histories.
Great teacher. Had him in a mini mester & he went through all the material & reviews. He explains in a way that you can recall what he was sayin while taking your test to help you answer questions. No book needed, but if u miss class good luck on ur notes!
Had him for the wintermester. i really enjoyed his class. He tells you to not buy the book and just take notes which is awesome. as long as you take good notes you will make an A.
Took him for Summer I. Did not need the book. Only 4 tests no homework. Pretty easy. He is controlling and doesnt allow talking or cell phones at all. He also will not do grading curves or extra credit so if you miss it you miss it!
Prof. Hathcock is crystal clear on what is expected. There are only four grades in the class and it's for four tests. There are no chances for extra credit. He is very thorough and gives an outline and reviews before tests. You will not need the book. Take really good notes, study, and be respectful and you'll do great in his class.
Took his summer I class. Very controlling and will call out anyone talking. He lectures the entire class but only keeps you for 1.5 hours. On the plus side he has only four tests and no homework.
Wow! this is the best history teacher I've ever met he uses a powerpoint to present his lecture but does no read off of it, it includes pictures so you can make a relation to what he is talking about that way you'll remember, gives examples of everythng. Only 4 test no need of book. I recommend him I used to have trouble w/history he changed that!
I enjoy going to this class. His lectures are interesting and he has a great sense of humour. I appreciate his up front crystal clear expectations. Exercise a little self discipline and pay attention and you should do well.
I loved this History class, most interesting history class I have ever taken. All he demands is attention which is extremely reasonable. Because he doesnt ask you to get a book and you only have 4 tests. JUST PAY ATTENTION! loved his class so thankful i found a good teacher!
I LOVE THIS CLASS! I look forward to going to this class every time. I have always loved history, but I love it so much more now. Prof. Hathcock is a GREAT teacher! He is passionate about what he is teaching which makes it interesting. No homework, no need for a book, easy tests. Just be respectful i.e. no talking or texting. Thanks Prof Hathcock
Only grades come from 4 test. No extra credit, papers review, class participation. Talking or texting not tolerated. Lectures in story form which is interesting except I never know what the main point is or what to study. Test are 35 multiple choice and 10 fill in blank. Good choice if u just want to sit there. Will not take again.
One of the best professors I've has at TCC NW. He loves teaching and makes his lectures so interesting. Felt as if he was telling me the best most interesting story all the time. Tests are easy I you paid attention during lecture. Do not miss because you will regret it. Does not tolerate others talking or texing during lecture. DON'T MISS ANY.
Great teacher. Love hearing about history from him-he always gave more information which was very interesting. If you attend class and take notes you will pass the class. No book necessary.
Teaches directly from PowerPoints, but his lessons are extremely interesting. He has a way of teaching in a way that resembles a "story." I took this course during a Maymester and easily received an A. It helps to go over the outline he has students fill out with a study partner. He was definitely one of my favorite instructors.
Professor Hathcock is a great professor. His class is not easy if you don't come to class and take note. he gives 3tests and 1 final straight from notes. no homework or extra credits which is good because I have a kid and a full time job. Also, no book (save some $$ book prices are ridiculous now a day)
His class is pure lecture sometimes he gives unnecessary information that is not in the test. He only gives 4 test (includes final) nothing else. Book is not needed he test you over his lectures. I hated history before and still hate it, and have to take the class again. (I HAVE BAD STUDY SKILLS AND HAVE ALWAYS STRUGGLED WITH HISTORY)
There are no assignments, and all tests are short answer & multiple choice. The review for tests are unclear, and he regularly skips classes, and does not give sufficient notice. There were two classes that I stopped what I was doing to attend, and low and behold just a sign in sheet on the door.
Easy going guy, take notes and dont buy a book. Two tests and two short essays on each test, easy stuff. Good teacher. Recommended.
Does a great job delivering the information. Makes it a story that sticks with you after the class. Highly recommend.
Great professor. I do not like history at all, but he made it very simple. His lectures were actually interesting. He gives you an outline, easy to follow. 4 tests and one term paper, the final is not cumulative. Take notes, study your notes and you are sure to get an A.
do not buy the book. he gives you everything you need at the beginning of the year. only 5 grades (4 tests and 1 paper) all tests are 35 multi choice, 10 short answer and 1 essay. if you pay attention to the lecture, this class is an easy A.
Dr. Hathcock makes this class interesting. He states, pay attention, come to class and take notes. He gives you extra credit options. He really wants his students to be successful. I would take him all over again. I recommend him for sure in this course. He knows his history that is for sure.He dont allow cell phones or cheating, don t even try it!
As long as you pay attention in this class you are guaranteed to pass, and it'd be really hard not to get an A. I'm not a huge fan of history but after this class I know a lot more and am actually a lot more interested in it. Great teacher.
If you show up to class everyday and take notes you will pass. His lectures are straight to the point and he makes it interesting. I don't like history at all but actually enjoyed going to his class.
First day of class he will tell you"Come to class, take notes and you'll get an A.I promise". It's true. I Went to class, took notes and got an A. Makes the class very interesting. Tells history like a long story. Test are very straight forward and from his outline. No textbook required. Take him if you want to learn and get a good grade.
Took him for summer 1, ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY!!! if you miss a day that could hurt you on the test. Did not use the book at all everything that was on the test was in the lecture. review session are somewhat helpful. If you take good notes and study than you can definitely make an A or at least a B. I HATE Hist but overall he made it interesting.
If you show up and take good notes you set yourself up for success. You need to study your notes and know the outline. As long as you know everything on the outline you will have no problem making an A+ on each exam. Great professor!
Dr. Hathcock is an amazing teacher!! I'd take his class again because he made history such an easy class. Show up, take notes, study said notes, pass the class. He's a generous grader and only wants to help you learn. He's very knowledgeable on the subject he teaches and makes it interesting. No HW or text books. 3
James Hathcock was a good online teacher. He provided clear instructions, and responded to e-mails promptly. I would definetly take this class again. Their is weekly homework and you need to read the textbook. 4 test and none of them are dropped.
He is a clear cut professor, and is courteous. No lecture notes given, you need to read on your own. Assignment & discussion board each week. I'd have preferred to be in an actual classroom and heard him lecture about it instead. That would've made it easier. He gives resources to help. He responds quickly, & is nice. Do the work and you'll do fine.
There are four easy tests, the final is optional. The tests consist of 25 multiple choice, 10 fill in the blank, and 1 short essay. He is very clear with his expectations in the beginning, will provide an outline for lectures. Study the outlines and you'll make an easy A. If you miss class you will miss the material for the tests.
Only grade you get is from tests, so if you're a bad test tAker this class is not for you. He said we didn't need the book but the only material we had to study from were from notes during class. Test are made up of insignificant facts. This class is the reason why people hate basics and quit school. So pointless. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!
Cares about his students. Does a good job giving information and testing you ON that actually information.
Lectures were easy to follow and set you up well for the test.
This professor sincerely cares about his students. Dr. Hathcock sets up his students for success. He gives you all the tools you need to pass as well as a review the class prior to the test. He is very clear and thorough with his lectures and as well as what he expects. If you do poorly in his class, it's definitely something YOU did wrong.
Such an awesome professor. He does not give homework and there are only 4 test and a final. As long as you listen in class and study the outline you should get an A. He makes history interesting.
Hathcock was a very monotonic lecturer. He seems to enjoythe subject b ut listening to him is like listening to a dripping faucet. The lectures are extremely long and boring anf he has a tendency to add (s) to the end of words that don't belong, along with saying "I swear" multiple times throughout the class. Flips through slides constantly.
Dr. Hathcock is a great professor, very helpful and understanding. The class is interesting, the lesson are organized and easy to follow.
Makes it very clear everything you need to do to pass. - show up - take good, detailed notes - take a test 4 tests and optional final if you need it. As long as you show up to class and take notes you won't even need to purchase the book that goes with the class.
You need the textbook for sure for the online class. Assignments every week include a 300 word discussion board over questions he asked about the chapter, 100 word replies to two other classmates DB, and a few questions within the chapter. It seems like a lot but it wasn't. 4 tests including final. Easy A when you do the work.
I thought he was super awesome. I am taking him again. He likes to story tell, just take notes and follow the syllabus of topics! He will tell you what to focus on at the end of the discussion test. Treaty's/compromises and presidents are important. 4 test 1 optional final to replace low grade test. No test needed he tells all
DEFINETLY TAKE HIM FOR HISTORY. Best professor I've had so far. If you skip class you will have a tough time, and if you do miss class DEFINETLY get the book(although it's not required) you have to pay attention and you have to actively take notes. But his tests are pretty easy if you do this. If you have to take a history I highly recommend him.
INCREDIBLE TEACHER!! Teaches by telling stories and it really helps you stay interested. If you take notes and come to class you will do well in this class. Best history teacher TCC has to offer. You can tell he really enjoys his job and enjoys teaching about history.
Hathcock teaches the class like reading a bed time story with monotonic voice, he will talk more than what is going to be on the test, so be careful with taking notes. Each test includes an essay, you need to explain in detail to get full credit. Not a bad teacher, but usually don't respond emails, Must show up to pass or get a book to read.
Passionate about history. Tells everything like a story that makes it fun to listen to. Not only will you learn, but you'll have fun learning it. A must take for anyone interested in US History!
I took him online. You have to do a discussion post w/300 words weekly for every chapter, respond to 2 other ppl w/ 100 words, and answer questions throughout out the chapters. An exam over every 3chapters. You WILL NEED TO READ. Exams are timed. Only 1hr for 35multiple choice&10fill in the blank. A lot of his questions come directly from the book.
There was no book necessary. Attendance is vital because all information is covered in his lectures. Class was never boring. No homework just tests. Best storyteller ever. He covered sensitive topics gracefully. I loved this class.
He teaches the class like he is reading a bed time story. There will be 5 exams (4 unit exams and one comprehensive final) and he calculates 4 of the highest grade. The good thing is that he does offer extra credit opportunities, 5 points each.
Took a 2-week MayMester course after 4 years out of school. Lectures felt more like a long story, and Hathcock is an excellent story-teller. He didn't treat questions like they were stupid, no matter how complex or simple. Made me genuinely interested in History. Amazing outlines that helped with studying. I'd take him for every subject if I could.
Took online class. Discussion Board posts with two responses to two other students mandatory each week, plus questions from the chapter due each week. 4 exams each covered 4 chapters that consisted of 35 multiple choice questions and 10 fill in the blank questions. Overall the instructor was clear and posted grades/responded to emails quickly.
Took this for a 2-WK Maymester class, went for 4 hours for 2 weeks.. Printed out the online and we went down the outline in order, and in detail. Had been out of school while I was in the Army, took this and got an A. Honestly, didn't get tired or sleep with it at 8am bc of the Prof. Knew absoluely you asked him, and went in great detail. ThumbsUP
Professor Hathcock is quality. His lectures are super immersive and it feels like you know exactly what's going on. He doesn't care so much about dates, rather he cares about what happened, why it happened, and what happened because of the event. He puts stories about his own life in the lecture, and is overall a genuine teacher. Amazing guy.
What an awesome teacher. Took him for HIST 1301 & 1302, best classes I have taken at TCC! Learned so much about America. He is an excellent public speaker which makes the lectures very interesting to listen. Just plain lectures and exams, the way teaching should be.
BEST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD. I learned so much from him. He tells history like it's a story and he makes lectures so enjoyable. You can tell he loves his job. His tests are straight from the notes. Very easy! I am trying to take him again but he has 0 seats left for all his classes while everyone else has 20-40 seats left. He is that good.
Take him if you want to have great due dates and just finish work
Good Professor, just do the DB and focus questions and you'll be fine. All information is from the book, he doesn't want you using outside sources i.e. (Google, Wikipedia) you will get a zero on you work. He considers that "cheating," so please use only the book
Dr. Hathcock is so far one of the best lecturer I ever had! His lectures are so interesting. Took him for the 2 weeks maymester and I learned so much about the U.S. If you attend class and pay attention, you will get an A! So, definitely take him for history. Highly recommended (:
My English is my 3rd language, I was really scared to take his class specially in May semester for just 2 weeks 4 hours per day. He was very easy what you all you need is to take notes and to study and you will get an easy A. I got an A, he made me love History.
if you want to learn and get an A then take him. he is the best history teacher i have ever taken. His lectures are never boring just take notes and you will be fine & he offer extra credit. i took him for maymester with an A
Took a MayMester course, class was 4 hours and 20 minutes with a 40 minute lunch. Surprisingly class was interesting because Hathcock's lectures felt like a long story. Provided outlines that helped with note taking and studying. I'd take him for every subject if I could. His class was interesting and he is a fair grader and gives extra credit.
Took History 1302 for the Summer with Meredith May, only to find out my Professor's got switched to Hathcock. No doubt Summer classes are hard, but for Hathcock's class, all you have are three tests & the final. No daily work to help with your grade. He gave good lectures. He's strict on phones & talking while he's lecturing which is understandable
Show up to class and take notes. easy pass. I took the 5 week summer course so he didn't give any essays. he tells you exactly what you need to know to pass the tests. and the lectures are always fun. He really knows his stuff so he can answer pretty much any question about the topic unless its waaayyy out of left field. cool dude
I took him for Summer I and he was great! He really helps us understand and asks if we have questions. His teaching style is straight lecture but they are pretty interesting if you actually pay attention. I had 3 tests and a final comprised of multiple choice and short answer questions( and essay sometimes) but they were a breeze if you take notes.
Fantastic Professor. Show up take notes and study them. If you do this you will pass and possibly get an A.
Amazing teacher, he is the very first one to make me like History class again, I hated History before. The sad thing is that he cracks modern jokes on old stories and students don't laugh. I recommend him to everyone trying to take History 2. And don't forget to memorize the names of special characters like Presidents, influential people.
He communicates well, answers emails quickly. More than fair. If you want to learn US history, here is your chance. Be prepared to study. There is a focus question and discussion board every week and 4 exams. Although there is a lot of work, and you have to learn the material, he is a generous grader. Use the online resources that come with book.
This professor is very organized and gives clear instructions. His work is not too bad. There's just a lot of writing required every week. He posted EVERY work AND TESTS ahead of time, which is a blessing honestly.
Chapter Focus Questions/Discussion Boards weekly. Exams by every 4-5 chapters. Communication is great via email. Very organized entire semester is posted first day of class with all due dates. Must use book.
If you're disciplined enough for online go for it. He definitely gives a reasonable amount of time( one week) to complete hw ( 4-5 short focus questions & 300 word DB answer and two 100 word replies to classmates). 4 total exams including the Final . You do need to purchase the book . but def recommend since he is an easy & clear grader.
great class, awesome lecture, clear expectation. lots of information but this is how history is. He makes it like story and give you tips to remember the material. hardly recommended. would definitely take him again.
Four week online summer class. Read 15 chapters 50 pages each. 15 Discussion board posts (1 per chapter) of 300 words and 2 replies each 100 words. Focus question for all 15 chapters, 4-5 questions per chapter. 4 exams consist of 35 multiple choice and 10 essay. Insane amount of work for 4 week class. That said, he's a very easy grader.
LOVE LOVE him! Great professor, I think hes the only professor whose lectures aren't a drag. The only thing I will say is he only does tests so if you don't show up or listen you wont pass. However his lectures are worth showing up to, he tells history through story format and jokes. EVERYTHING he says is on the test , he doesn't trick students.
really enjoyable class. He is a great teacher and learning in his class was very good despite the rushed nature of a summer class. Tests can be specific but he usually expresses an emphasis on related topics so a good grade is readily achievable. There are essays on every test and reading is not necessary if you pay attention in class.
I loved Professor Hathcock's lectures, they were very fascinating and at times funny. There are four tests that make up the entirety of your grade so it is very important that you attend class and take good notes. No textbook needed if you show up/take notes.
He is a good teacher, he stays up night of exam to make sure everyone got through it okay. Its really just read a chapter answer a few questions and do a discussion board.
He is a very good online teacher. He stays up late on the night of exams to make sure everyone finishes okay. Pretty much every week you have Focus Questions that you answer from book, Discussion Board 300-600 words and every 3 chapters a test. If you read the chapter it is easy!
Prof. Hathcock teaches a lecture only, all grade based on 4 tests class. His lectures draw you in and are taught as a story. Show up to every class, be prepared to take notes, and find good study partners. Everything on his tests he will cover in lecture, book is optional. Best history professor I've ever had.
Dr. Hathcock is the best professor Ive ever had! Ive always hated history and thought it was boring but the way he teaches it makes it so interesting. It is entirely lecture based and only graded on 5 tests but as long as you pay attention its easy! His lectures are interesting and I take notes on my laptop. He also offers extra credit on tests!
Mr. Hathcock was my favorite teacher he really inspired me in history. He had great lectures and he really cared about what he was talking about. Simple 4 tests 4 grades. Thats it. Awesome class love history now because of him.
Hathcock's lectures are almost like listening to a history podcast. No book needed. Show up to class, take notes in lecture, and study them for the tests. Each test has an essay prompt that he prepares you for ahead of time. Pass the tests, pass the class. He also offers a few extra credit opportunities throughout the semester.
Mr. Hathcock made history lectures actually interesting and even though the only grades in the class were just 4 exams, I managed to make an A just by coming in and listening to the lecture/taking notes. His lectures are easy to listen to, funny and informative, and well organized. Highly recommend for History 1301!
He is a GREAT teacher. The only grades you will get are from the 4 tests. They arent hard as long as you study and pay attention to his test reviews. His lectures are a pleasure to listen to, he gives not only the facts but interesting information about every single person and event. I learned so much thank you!
Mr. Hathcock is the best teacher I have had in college so far. He has made me really like learning about History! His lectures are awesome and fun to listen to, and he makes sure that he doesn't put anything on the tests that are not in lecture. The grading for this class is based off 4 exams and if you pass them, you don't have to take the final!
I am by no means a history major, but this course was not difficult at all. Professor Hathcock is very clear with his expectations and never changed a due date, so there was no room for confusion. Each week we would have to read a chapter from the book, answer questions, and post a discussion board on it, but nothing unbearable.
Professor Hathcock was great! You will read a pretty long chapter every week, and fill out essay questions and a discussion board post every week. The grading criteria are clear and he is generous with his grades. The tests are long, but as long as you read the material, take copious notes and review the materials, you will pass easily.
I took professor Hathcock for maymester and I was definetley scared at first. there was no homework and no book needed but our grades were solely based on the tests... it was so easy as long as you take GOOD notes in class and look over them nightly you'll be set. Professor Hathcock is super understanding and is willing to help you out if needed!
Probably the best professor I have had so far in college. He makes history so fascinating and actually makes me want to go to class and pay attention instead of sitting on my phone. I am only taking it as a summer class, so the only grades you are getting are on tests. If you go to class and pay attention which is very easy to do, you will pass.
I love this man, he's passionate about teaching. Its not a super hard class but he loves his subject and boy does he know about colonial america. I recommend him highly.
Do not get turned off by the syllabus, he sets very clear expectations and as long as you follow them you will get an easy A. This class is writing intensive but if you take time out of each day to work on homework it should be no issue. Great Professor!
Honestly, as long as you showed up to class and paid attention to the lesson he is giving you. You never needed the book!
Professor Hathcock is my favorite professor at TCC by far. I hated history and it was my worst subject until I took his class. He really loves and knows his history, and he made every lecture interesting and enjoyable. All that is required to get an easy A in his class is pay attention and take notes. I highly recommend his class.
This Professor is amazing! Im an auditory learned so his lecture heavy class was very easy to me. You have to take good notes and study a little each day and youll do great!
He is super lecture heavy to get ready to take notes. No homework, just 4 mandatory tests and the final is optional and can make up your lowest test score and he offers 10 points extra credit for attending campus activities. Hes tests are consistent and fair 10/10 would recommend. Make this teacher your top choice for history.
All assignments are due on Sundays . Homework is straight from the book, answer 3-5 questions, discussion board, and 2 responses. Grades pretty easy on homework. Read the chapters because there are no PowerPoints provided. There are 4 exams worth 100 points.
the DB and focus questions are easy grades - dont skip those. exams are only hard if you don't read the whole chapter (they're so long!) great professor though. work is manageable and not overwhelming. take this class if you want a semi easy A-B.
My friends convinced me to take a different professor for 1302 and I regret it big time!! His lectures are very interesting and I learned a lot. He's also very nice so if you're putting in the effort he'll work with you on grades. Simple system: show up, take notes, pass the tests, optional final at the end. 10/10 recommend but don't skip.
The only thing you are graded on are tests. There are 4 tests, and the avg is your grade. Final is optional and replaces the lowest score. Tests are multiple choice, fill in the blank, and an essay. If I studied better I would've gotten an A. Nice professor with interesting lectures but boring for early mornings. Wish there were more grades
15 Chapters to read (long!), 15 DB's, two reply's to students, and 4 exams over 4 chapters, last one - 3 chapters. It was kind of difficult for me because of so much info to absorb. If I were to retake, I would take it in person. Take notes & try to study a few days prior to test because there are 10 fill in questions (hard) and 35 multiple choice.
He is a Great Professor! Lectures are in chronological order and very organized. All you need to do is listen and take good notes then the test should be easy. Grades are based on 4 tests (no homework) extra credits are optional. Even during COVID-19, he managed to finish in a high note. I end up taking both history 1 & 2 with him. Highly Recommend
I took Hathcock for a summer semester and I'm glad I did. Each week you're tasked with watching the pre-recorded videos (you NEED to take good notes when watching them), studying your notes, and taking the associated exam. If you take notes and study, you'll be able to get an A. He also posts the possible essay questions which was super helpful!
Professor Hathcock is one of the best teachers I've ever had! Lectures are interesting and engaging, and you can tell he loves what he does, which adds to the quality of his lectures. Tests are pretty easy, and he doesn't grade essays harshly. 4 tests which consist of 20 MC questions, 10 fill in the blank, and one essay. Absolutely loved taking him
Dr. H was an absolute gem! Took him during summer semester and am so happy I did. He clearly laid out his expectations for us: listen to lectures, take close notes during them, and find a study tool like Quizlet or making your own outlines to help you understand all information, you will be golden. He tells history like a (very awesome) story.
Amazing Prof!!! Nice, clear expectations, entertaining lectures, and no homework. If you dont take notes you'll fail. The extra credit is EASY. He gives 4 tests and an optional 5th. Its a mixture of multiple choice, fill in the blank, and a short essay. THERE IS NO WAY TO FAIL IF YOU TRY
I wouldnt take this professor again. the work load was crazy. so much busy work. I took him during a mini mester which didnt help the work load. I mean I I got it done. but each chapter he had us do 6 assignments per chapter and 3 chapters a week.
I have no idea why this professor has good rating, he doesn't have review or anything, just taking notes down for an hour. Also, his test isn't easy, it's annoying.
Took his class online and was the best choice I ever made. All lectures are uploaded so you can go at your own pace. The lectures are long but he describes everything as if he was actually there which is pretty amazing. It's like listening to a podcast, that's how interesting he makes it. Take notes, review the notes and the tests are fairly easy.
Took his class for fall of 2020. All online. Theres only 4 assignments... and theyre all exams. No reviews. The review is another lecture and he doesnt even go in depth about the essay questions. I think he made it only 4 exams to lighten the load of classes in general but hes doing a disservice. You will not make an A w/out SI.
The only graded assignments in this class were the four tests. Other than that, all you have to do is watch the lectures, take notes, make flashcards, and study those flashcards. The lectures are really enjoyable to me so it's not even a chore. You can tell he cares a lot about the subject matter which makes the whole class a genuine delight.
His lectures were very memorable making it easier to recall details for tests.
I took Prof. Hathcock twice. Once for HIST1301, and the second time for HIST1302. His lectures are amazing, and there is no homework aside from 4 tests. He occasionally does extra credit. I believe he is one of the heads for the history department, he is very knowledgeable. Take notes, and highlight or put a smiley on what he says is important!
Not sure if it was because of online classes this fall semester, but definitely not a good history class. Your listening to at least 1 or 2 hours, sometimes even 3hour lectures. Make sure to study a CRAP town of notes Good teacher but his methods were just bad. Insanely to much information at one time
For someone who always believed wasn't good at history, I did great in his class. I took him for both Hist 1301 & 1302. He makes his class super understandable and easy to follow along whether it's in person or online. His lectures and outlines are very well organized along with the test and is very specific on what will show up on the tests'.
As long as you listen to what he says, take notes, and study, you will pass.
Took him for both US History 1 & 2. He is kind and an amazing lecturer. His love for history really shows in class! I personally don't like history, but he somehow made it really interesting. What I liked about his classes were that we only had exams, and no assignments. His tests were easy to pass as long as you study! Take him! You won't regret!
Lot's of hours of lectures, but they are pretty nice. If you take good notes, the tests are a breeze. And he gives extra credit opportunities if you struggle. The discussion boards are great places to be able to learn how to summarize and take in important details.
Dr. Hathcock made History 1301 very interesting! I really enjoyed this class, and I will be taking him for 1302. Listen to the lectures, take good notes. don't slack, study, and pay attention. He gives extra credit and that helps. SI is offered and that helped me prepare for the 4 exams that are in this class. Online course has proctored exams.
Unfortunately, I had not had the opportunity to meet Dr Hathcock. I really enjoyed listening to his lectures as Bonnie and Clyde kept the youtube lectures interesting. Dr Hathcock is very responsive, he's been my best professor so far. In Feb, I found I did not need this class for my plan, but I enjoyed the class I decided to stay and not drop.
Professor Hathcock is really passionate about what he teaches. I did not get him in person due to COVID but I would bet he's just as good in person as he is online. Test are super clear if you study lectures are the length as they would be in person all he ask is for no more than 3 hours out of your week. If you can't give that then thats on you.
I took Dr. Hathcock for the Maymester. Take him, he is great! You should know with any Maymester its going to be intense, and it was! His lectures are long, but they do keep your interest (wont put you to sleep). His quizzes are proctored. Take notes with his lectures. Study your notes! Easy class if you study. He does give you extra credit.
He is a great teacher his Lectures are long and you will have to take a lot of notes. I had him for a summer class and We had 4 Exams . These Exams included 20 multiple choice questions, 10 fil in a blank and 1 essay question where you need to explain a event. You do need to study for this class . GO TO THE SI , THEY KNOW HOW THE EXAMS WILL LOOK .
Best professor I've had. I've always been super bad at history bc I could never understand it or memorize anything. For the first time I was able to understand it because of him. He made the lectures super interesting and taught the lessons as stories. He takes up the whole class time, lots of notes, no homework at all, 4 exams, final is optional.
Although you take a lot of notes, he gives opportunities for extra credit on tests and gives good feedback. He really wants to help you pass the class.
This class was straight-forward and overall, easy. However, it's a lot of reading. Two assignments every week and 4 tests a semester. The tests were difficult for me. No notes, proctored. It's just a lot of information to remember. 30 multiple choice, 10 short answer. He's very fair though. I just wish the tests had a study guide. Would take again.
I took his online course FALL 2021 and made a 90 for the semester. Great professor all you have to do is Discussion board 300-word count and respond to two classmates a minimum 150 words. Every 4 weeks you take an exam where it is proctored. 30 multiple choice and 10 short answer questions. His online course I learned so much and it was so easy.
Overall he's a great professor and is clear on what he looks for. Gives a few extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. I strongly recommend going to S.I. meetings, they're great to ask questions and get help for exams. be prepared to start lecture on day one.
AMAZING professor, I look forward to this class every week when I have it! His lectures are long but are super interesting and won't mind answering questions mid-lecture. He's also super respectful when you. go talk to him after class. The only grades are the 4 unit tests which are relatively easy if you attend SI and or study. 100% recommend.
Professor Hathcock made the class incredibly easy. All he did was lecture and he even provides the notes for you. The four tests were the only grades for the semester unless you did one of his extra credit opportunities. I learned a lot in this class. Some might think he's boring but I always looked forward to being there.
Professor Hathcock has an amazing teaching style and if I could take him again I would. He makes history fun and you can tell he really enjoys teaching it. The best way to pass is to take detailed notes and study a little bit every day. You are offered lots of extra credit so definitely take advantage of that. Be prepared for exams!
I took Hist 1301 during the summer and I will 100% be taking his Hist 1302 class. Absolutely amazing lectures and he gives an outline of the entire course so it great to take notes on. Total of 4 exams during the summer course and those are the only grades he takes. No homework or daily assignments. Love the side stories he adds in about the topic
I took Professor Hathcock this summer and was scared it was going to be too fast paced and too much information but was surprised at the phenomenal job he did. His lectures are long but they are so interesting and it makes it easier to remember. He is hands down one of the best professors at TCC and I would take him again if I could
Super great teacher! Gave extra credit for exam's I got poor grades on. He thoroughly goes through what's on each Exam. He responds and cares about his students and really wants you to pass. It's an easy course and he makes it easy to learn all the material. I RECOMMEND!! 5/5
Homework included questions from the textbook. Be sure to watch and pay close attention to his recap videos before exam. Exams are proxied - no notes, so memorization of facts is important. Do the extra credit (which I thought were actually good & fun to do).
Mr.Hathcock is the most terrible professor I ever taken in college. He is such a lazy professor who provides nothing for online class. No powerpoint, No lecture. It's 100% students' work on studying. History has a lot of information and he provides no summaries for class?? That's ridiculous. He makes easy money out of poor students' pocket.
originally was not suppose to be my teacher but so glad he was. you can tell he really loves what he does which makes the class much more enjoyable, he also does extra credit opportunities for any poor test grades. overall great professor, it was his first time teaching history 2301 but did an amazing job highly recommend!!
You just have to show up, listen, and take notes and you should be good! You only have 4 grades, which are the 4 exams but if you've been keeping up with the lectures (which are actually interesting) you shouldn't even need to study too much. He's helpful and his way of teaching makes class entertaining. I would also recommend going to SI sessions.
Dr. Hathcock had me falling in love with history again. His class consists of lectures and four unit tests. HIGHLY recommend utilizing Supplemental Instruction, especially if Ashley is leading. If you don't take notes or don't show up, it will be hard to pass. Taking him for 1302 next semester!
You have 4 tests and that's it. I bombed one and that set me up to fail. You have multiple choice questions, 10 short answers, and an essay on each test. The professor is very monotone and will probably put you to sleep if you don't absolutely love history.
I found Dr.HathCOCK teaching style to be ineffective, unengaging, and overall unhelpful. As a result, the lectures were disjointed and lacked structure, making it difficult to follow along. He talks the whole time while presenting slides. My brain starts melting after 10 minutes. He also doesn't reply to emails.
Never seen a professor so proficient at giving lectures. Super in depth during slides so don't zone out or you'll miss important info (he tells you what will more than likely be on test though). 4 tests throughout semester (5th is optional to replace lowest). Tests are 20 multiple choice, 10 fill in blank, and essay (2 choices).
Insufficient resources and a low-effort teaching style made this class challenging. The professor never shared PowerPoint presentations and often rambled during lectures, failing to provide detailed explanations of key/minor concepts. Providing more learning resources would benefit students and improve the professor's teaching effectiveness.
Dr. Hathcock is a super easy grader but the assignments would take me forever. There were 5-6 focus questions that were based on the textbook chapter that week and then a discussion post (minimum 300 words) with a required two responses that were 150 each. It was a lot of work for someone who works full time. Super easy grader, though.
Very fair professor, many extra credit opportunites were given. Lecture heavy class, tests come directly from lecture.
He was awesome and perhaps one of my favorite professors I had at TCC. I was able to learn a lot in his class and he only grades exams and there are no other assignments with some bonus assignments you can get to add to your exams. His lectures are fun and interesting, I would recommend taking him for history.
One of the best professors I had, his lectures were like a story you will never fall asleep to, I used to hate history but he made it fun, no assignments or homework, just 4 exams study your notes and you will ace it i got 100 in all of them cuz everything he said was actually on the test. GREAT PROF TAKE HIM!!!
(Both US HIST1301 and 1302) He's very simple with lectures and teaches the material very straightforward. All you have to do is attend class and take decent notes. His lectures and his powerpoints are all very easy to follow, just make sure if you don't make it for one class to catch up w/ someone else's notes. Only 4 exams + final and no homework!
I took his HIST-1301 class, you are graded upon 4 tests you take across the entire semester with extra credit opportunities for each of the tests. For the final its just another test that is optional. His lectures sometimes are boring but most of the time he makes the content pretty interesting. Show up and take notes and its a free A.
I honestly wish I could take this class again just for professor Hathcock. Although he only does lectures he is an amazing lecturer. His only grades are four exams, but he gives extra credit opportunities after every exam. I would highly recommend making a friend in this class just incase you do miss a day so you can still get the notes.
Loved Dr. Hathcock's 1301 class and will be taking 1302 with him next semester. He gives many opportunities for extra credit, and his class is graded only by 4 tests (optional final to replace lowest grade.) I honestly wish more classes graded like this. YOU MUST TAKE/STUDY DETAILED NOTES IN THIS CLASS. Not an easy A but definitely achievable.
4 exams no homework one extra credit opportunity listen during lecture/ take notes study the review and you will do well
I took him for HIST-1301 and it was great! Your grade for his class is based on 4 different test grades, so make sure that you pay attention and take good notes in class + study for the tests. He's super nice and his lectures are more like a story time in the way that he explains everything. There's an essay on the test, but he grades them easily.
Rambles on and on for 2 hours straight and expects you to take notes all the time . He has no PowerPoints or anything on canvas that will potentially help you study . He has an outdated teaching style ,non engaging at all! ,if you have adhd and take this class you signed youre death warrant
Grade is based on 4 exams and one optional final. All lecture and note based. Gives extra credit after the first two exams. Have to take notes on lectures and study for exams to pass this class.
He is my favorite professor ever. But his style is for the note takers and audible learners. Only lectures and you cannot miss a day. Made of 4 exams, but has extra credit opportunities for each and optional final exam to make up for one exam grade. But the exams are exactly what his lectures cover. If you love history, you'll love this professor.
I myself am a history lover and have felt at home in all of his classes, but even if you aren't into history it won't be difficult! You will need to study because you only have 4 exams for coursework. He touches upon our nation's history in a balanced but inspiring way, and he cares a lot about this country and his students.
AMAZING! he talks the whole time and u HAVE to take detailed notes but his tests are very easy as long as you try! i took time for 1301 & 1302 and he's one of my fav profs here. 4 tests: 20 multiple choice, 10 fib, 1 essay. has extra credit opportunities. easy A if you try, don't be on ur phone and pay attention! answers all questions, just ask him
Mr Hathcock is an amazing professor. I think that he made history super interesting to learn. He knows so many cool facts and stories. More importantly, he makes history super easy to understand. Mr Hathcock is clear on what he wants you to know, explains the events of history in a way that is easy to understand, and extremely knowledgeable.
Tells you during lectures what will be on tests. Multiple choice and fill in the blank tests. Offers extra credit to the point it is easy to get an A.
Pick Dr. Hathcock! There are no homework assignments, your only "assignment" is to review your notes taken from the day. There are 4 tests, with extra credit on most of them. There is an optional final that can replace your lowest test grade. The test has multiple choice questions, fill in the blank questions, and an essay. They are easy, study!
He is straightforward with the material, gets you ready for his exams, and does his job well. Attendance is definitely necessary if you want to do well. His class was basically story time. I enjoyed listening to his lectures. It was fun. He is a good storyteller. His class was 1 hour and 20 minutes of entertainment, twice per week, for 16 weeks.
I took Prof. Hathcock for HIST 1302 after having a horrible prof for HIST 1301. He is the best. Engaging lectures, extra credit, and a fair grader. Tests are straightforward and essays are easy if you study. Make flashcards for sure. He will guide you to an A every single time! Hand down, my favorite teacher.
Professor Hathcock's history class is super engaging - his lectures read like a captivating story. Though note-taking is a must, the 4 exams are straightforward if you stay on top of it. unstuck study helped me ace the tests with its smart study tips.
Just listen and you will be fine if you're a note taker take them
don't take him tough grader tests are heavy and lectures are also heavy.
Don't take this class. 4 test if you do bad on one your screwed, and the tests are nothing like what he teaches. He is a smart guy and knows what he's talking about, but it's not worth the headaches and waisted time save your money.
Dr. Hathcock is very understanding about his students and really laid back! But you do have to study are for his tests! He doesn't really respond to emails. He does give out extra credit but it's rare.
If you like note taking, definitely take! His entire class is lecture. Grade is comprised of 4 exams but exams are quite simplistic: 20 multiple choice, 10 fill-in-the-blanks, and a one page paper with the choice of prompts given beforehand.
His class is really interesting and entertaining but the fact that there are not assignments and my grade depends on the exam is what makes it hard. In my experience, I learned a lot and I would say is one of my favorite classes, but I forget some important names during the exam. I recommend his class, but I recommend you to dedicate time to study.
You won't regret him. This is as easy as it gets, literally a discussion board and one homework. Get ready to type as that's all you'll be doing. You basically get a 100 if you just do the work. The test was also really easy and the end there was an essay with 2 prompts to choose from. Would take it for 1302 as well!
Great guy. Would not recommend if you're bad at studying or a slow note-taker though. Class is mostly lectures and he talks fast. Fortunately the lectures are interesting, engaging, and available on his youtube channel if you have to miss a day. He also does a great job of being unbiased. Class is great but not for the weak of wrist.
pretty easy
He's great! He actually made the beginning of U.S. history genuinely enjoyable. I took his class during the summer, so it was very fast-paced, but in a regular semester you probably won't have to study too much—just make sure to take good notes.
I wish I would've taken him for Hist 1301. History is my hardest subject, yet he made his class very easy and clear to understand. The way he speaks while delivering his lecture is like listening to a story. You can tell he is a very kind hearted man. Please take this professor you wont regret it!
Professor Hathcock seems like a great professor until you take his class and realize it isn't. he only grades tests, and while it seems easy you will have to take 2 pages of notes per class, and you still may be uncertain if you recorded all the important things throughout the lecture. He has tenure in teaching but evidently does not care.
