He might be one of the best professors I've had so far. Easily the best physics professor out there. Although the material is tough to begin with, he presents it in a way that makes you understand and actually enjoy physics. I recommend forming your schedule around his classes!
Definitely my favorite Professor of the semester. He bases his lessons around slides he makes (the slides can be downloaded from his website). There are plenty of in-class demonstrations, and the professor is very helpful if you have any questions. His tests are relatively easy compared to most Physics classes on campus, and he's a fair grader.
Extremely helpful, always around for office hours. Don't underestimate, the exams tend to be tricky especially the multiple choice. Minimal homework, 2 exams, and the final. Prof Hedberg will make you love physics!
He is a GREAT professor!! Approachable guy, very clear, and is always willing to explain. He really wants to help if you ask questions. Lectures are funny and engaging because he brings lab toys to demonstrate the concepts and cracks jokes during demonstrations. Study because the material isn't easy but he makes it doable.
Awesome dude! I mean I already like physics because of my high school professor, but he's just as awesome! Great to understand, explains things very well, I rented the textbook but I never used it yet because I took PhysB in highschool(prior experience) 207 is a similar class but more difficult and complex problems. Approachable dude even in class.
This professor is purely awesome. He was only a sub for my PHY208 class but he really inspired people to study Physics!! Highly recommend.
If you came to office hours he broke down everything as clearly as possible. Awesome Professor!
He Rocks
Will explain every little thing you want explained. Rare to find such an amazing professor at CCNY
God bless this man!!!!! Very good grader. Exam are tricky. Take him!!!!!
Truly an awesome professor. Makes jokes in class, very helpful during his office hours. His homework problems are good practice, though his exam questions are a bit trickier. Strict grader, but makes up for it with a curve. Definitely worth building your schedule around him.
Fantastic Professor! very clear, caring, and makes sure you understand the material. He even offers tutoring during office hours. Best physics professor you will find in this school. The exams are hard, but it's physics!!! I rather learn and take a fair exam then not learn at all especially if you're taking physics 204. TAKE HIM!
He post his notes and class slides online. He is very accessible and is always willing to spend time with you until you understand the material. All his homework are online but don't have to pay for it. His tests are tricky only if you don't study and if you don't understand concepts. Best professor I ever had.
Really good professor that posts his lectures online and all of his hw is online too through his own website.
Dr. Hedberg is the best professor I've taken at City College. He is always willing to help any student in need of assistance and uses demonstrative techniques to help explain the course material. If you take time to learn and understand the concepts, his tests are very fair and you'll be well prepared for higher level physics classes.
profesor Hedberg is one of the best professor who really makes you love physic. HOwever, his tests are not easy. so make sure you do all his Hw . His HWs are all about Mr Mittnent. (you'll know what i mean when u have him ) Also, here is the tips to survive in his class: DO THE TEXTBOOK PROBLEMS. it is one of the good way to understand th concept
He is the best physics professor ! Other teachers confuse themselves with physics' concepts. but he knows what he is talking about and even do demos for students to relate it to real life situations. He is funny and really wants his students to understand the material. TAKE HIM if you can. tests aren't hard; the only sucky part is theyre out of 25!
Professor Hedberg is great ! Take him if possible !
He IS the best professor I've had at CCNY. I went in disliking physics and I came out loving it! It's not an easy A because you have to put in a lot of effort but you'll gain so much out of this class. His lectures are very clear and he uses many demos and even makes his own animations. He is also very helpful when you have questions, just ask!
Funny dude, in love with cats. His lectures are all posted, so you won't have to struggle if you miss something. Great man, love the class and love him. Didn't really learn from here, but this class is pretty awesome and relatively simple. Best physics lecturer definitely. Definitely would take again!
Great lectures. Will take the time out of class to answer someone's question and repeats clicker questions if the class didn't get it right. Tough homework and tests. No need for a textbook, just study his notes & homework.
Physics is not intrinsically easy, but he makes it as easy as it gets. Wonderful professor, he'll keep explaining a subject until everyone understands it. If you have doubts, just ask, he does not make you feel like questions are dumb. Still don't get it? Go to his office hours. He is super helpful and available. An outstanding professor!!!!!
Great guy and very knowledgable on the subject. Uses own online hw system so you don't have to pay for anything. Exams are tough, usually taking hw questions a step or two forward in difficulty. Very funny guy and is pretty approachable. Would greatly recommend him if you have some background in Physics, as its hard to stay above the curve at times
hard exams. do every extra problem you can to make sure you really understand the concepts. he isn't exactly the biggest help (large class size) so be sure to try your best. online homework (for free!) and online notes. funny too
Lectures do not prepare you for his exams. Do all the homework.
HIs lectures don't prepare you for his tests- very simple in terms of content, contain LOTS of typos in them as well as his own online hw system, which he believes is better than masteringphysics. His wording in general is a bit ambiguous and the "solutions" to his hw is just his algebra work (no explanations)which is sloppy to read LOTSOFSELFSTUDY
Curves his exams. If you answer a majority of the clicker questions you get a bonus 3% of participation (final then goes from 32% of your grade to 28%). Online homework is mandatory! Lectures are great- he does a lot of demonstrations to help understand concepts. Quirky but overall nice guy. Hedberg is bae 3
My god, you will learn absolutely nothing from him, maybe a little bit about cats, but that's all. Pray that you stay above the curve. Exams are nothing like the homework he gives. Expects you to know solutions to problems you've never done. You can pass if you stay above the curve, but you will learn nothing from him. Go to him, he doesn't care.
Hedberg's lectures are sometimes really good. They are long and often times his lectures will NEVER prepare you for his exams. The only way to pass his class is to stay on top of the curve, which is very difficult. Honestly, you will learn absolutely nothing. Physics itself is difficult and his class doesn't make it any easier. Avoid if possible.
As long as you stay above the curve, you will pass his class. Make sure you do the HW to understand the types of questions he will put on the exam. Entertaining lectures that includes a LOT of clues/questions included in his exams.
He is a great and interesting guy that (i believe) cares about his students. Even though tests are very tough, you can get a good grade if you know calculus and you practice the HW and extra physics problems in the recitation classes but idk cuz I mastered physics in high school I want to take him again ( if possible) next semester for PHY 208!
Lectures are less time on application and literal problem solving but a lot of time on understanding concepts and fundamentals. This can either work for you or against you on the tests depending on how your brain works. Generous with his time in office hours, very approachable. Uses his own online hw system which is a bit tricky, but free.
Hmm not a great professor in my opinion. Tests are really hard compared to other 207 professors. Class lectures do NOT prep you for the homework or the exams. Went to his office hours, he wasn't much help, youtube saved me but would not recommend. His lectures are online which is good i guess but still self teach yourself on the first day.
His tests are extremely difficult. He doesn't like numbers, he's more of a concept type of guy, which I hate honestly. I'm more of a math person, so I rather work with numbers and steps. The homework never prepared you for the exams and neither did he. He does curve as long as you stay above the class average. Hopefully, you don't get a smart class
Do all his online homework and go to lab, every point counts. Don't overthink the quizzes, since you can't really study for them, similar to the exam short answers (brutal if you're not great at physics solving, HW is way easier). Exams have concept questions+graph qs from his slides. If you don't know short answer but get these, you will be saved.
Tbh hedberg is an intelligent young man who is really passionate about the subject physics. But however he is a hard grader, and his exams are hard but like dedicate your soul to physics for the 90 days of the semester and you might pass ok.
Well, it is fun in class, but once it's up to exam or quiz, everyone is feeling painful, or even dropped the class
He explains the mAterial well and does a lot of practice problems that are similar to those on quizzes and exams. The homework does help a lot to get a better understanding of the material. Quizzes and exams are tough but the homework helps prepare for them. He also gives points for participation through clicker questions.
Hedberg has a good personality, not gonna lie. His notes are really helpful since they have equations that you will absolutely use, and even does practice problems. Come the quizzes and tests, they reach a more challenging level than the homework and thus his curve ends up being crazier. His final was a killer but he has the heart to barely pass me
Hedberg is a good professor compare to other teachers in CCNY. His test and quizzes are difficult but not impossible. His notes are great but it lacks quality. In other words he summarize the chapters to the point that it is hard to understand the concept. Reading the textbook helped me a lot in this class. Stay little above average you get an A
Hedberg is probably a good professor for anyone who already has some experience with physics. The lectures are decent sometimes because he does demonstrations, but you'll learn very little during his lectures. His quizzes and tests are really difficult. Don't expect to learn much from him, teach yourself the material using the textbook and videos.
If you have no physics knowledge this class wont be easy. In comparison to other physics courses offered in this school, this is one on the challenging side. He is a great teacher so take him if you want to learn physics. If you don't have the time to dedicate hours in a day to study, then don't take him, since you most likely wont pass.
Hedberg is a great guy and cares about his students but I would suggest only taking him if you have previous knowledge of physics. His lectures are easy to follow and he does curve a lot but his tests and quizzes are really hard. If you can dedicate time to practicing physics problems, definitely take him.
Online HW are not hard, but quizzes are hard. He wants you to understand fully instead of plugging numbers. His class is hard, but it is not impossible to pass since he curves.
He makes the class enjoyable since he put participation questions up and goes over his slides in a clear way. He is also available outside of class for help His quizzes are hard since you have to work with variables instead of numbers. His tests can be hard. If you study and understand the concepts you will be fine and he also curves.
Explains everything in detail. Choose him for Physics 207, you will not regret your choice.
This class is difficult, but that doesn't mean you can't get an A. Going to office hours will probably help a lot, but I wouldn't know. There isn't much to say besides don't lose heart until after you see the exam score distribution.
Wonderful. He actually teaches. Attendance and his HW was enough for me. You only have to understand the concepts. His exams are not very hard, you just need to be fast and have an open mind. You've never seen the problems before so you don't need to practice too hard :) Caring, sweet and very good looking (important)
Prof Hedberg is a good professor for those who already have prior knowledge of physics. He expects you to study all the problems in the textbook. Although he's helpful in office hours, he does NOT care if you get sick or go through something outside of class. Don't expect him to have empathy. Exams are nothing like hw or in-class problems.
Good teacher but more fixated on concepts that actual problems. this class is not like chemistry where u just practice questions and do the same way when you answer the exam. You must be able to use what you know to answer questions that you need to think about conceptually.
I had prior physics knowledge but that's not why I did well among numerous failing students. Go to lectures while paying attention and do the homework because that was enough for me to understand. Funny professor who helped outside class and I really understood what he was teaching. Look at the pdf and hw and tests are easy. love to have him again.
I studied so much for this course and I knew my physics but hedberg exams are freaking stupid they laterally have nothing to do with his lecture or homework. I would not recommend him. If you end up taking him you better study everyday and pray for a C in the end. He makes physics extremely difficult. Also be aware of his quizzes they are hard.
stay away from this professor he is not that good. If you care about your grade and GPA then stay miles away from him. dont even get me started about his exams. Let's just say they are ridiculous hard. GOOD LUCK because you gonna need it.
Great professor
If you have some knowledge about physics then take him you will enjoy his class however if this is your first time taking any form of physics then it will be very challenging. He is more of a concept guy not numbers which is a bit difficult because you will be practicing with numbers not variables. It's not impossible to pass but it's a challenge.
Dr. Hedberg is a good professor for those who took physics before. But if this is your first time taking a physics class it's going to be a tough ride . You have too study everyday if you want to do well. He is a tough grader. But overall he isn't that bad but as I said he likes too challenge his students which can be a good thing.
His homeworkers and lecture had nothing to do with his first exam. Average was very low which shows that slot of students did bad. Yes he does curve but if you really want to learn physics especially if you are a Physics major just dont take him take another professor or take it in a different school
Just dont do it especially with this professor. Class is unorganized and very difficult.
Prof. Hedberg is alright he isnt that bad however His class is not a walk in the park its very challenging. So yeah not an easy A not even an easy B. Good luck!!
Definitely a great professor. Explains things until you get it, ask as many questions as you like. If you don't show up, you don't pass. He uses a clicker for attendance and participation, but beyond that you actually need to hear him explain everything because he makes all of his own questions. Doesn't use the textbook but recommends you use it.
Anyone who complains about Hedberg compared to Chang or Falk is exaggerating his difficuly. You are taking the basic formulas and solving them algebraically for his exams or applying the basic physics concepts to the questions (concepts, most of which he goes over during class). I got a B+ from doing HW and solving the concept questions exclusively
Clear lecture but difficult content. make sure to understand the basics and keep doing problems.
This class is very challenging dont except it to be a walk in the park. Hedberg is a great professor however compared to other physics professors he is tough. Exams are very challenging and he makes them which mean its his own format so question are very different from the textbook questions which makes them difficult.
Miss one day of class and you will be completely behind, I don't recommend this class for anyone new to physics. His homeworks are extremely challenging and his test are just as hard. He curves like crazy because mostly everyone fails lol but still, its a nightmare. Guy is very conceptual and just avoid him if you want an easy time.
hard exams but he curves alot. homework every week. A++
Hedberg's intro to Physics class was not easy. He uploads class notes onto the course website, but even then you should not cut class. His lectures are actually very informative if you pay attention. The class has 3 midterms and 1 final. The exams lean more towards the concepts rather than the calculations, so make sure you can derive equations.
Fantastic Professor. Provides everyone with notes posted on his website. Did not take a page of notes the entire semester, his lectures and notes were all I needed. Barely opened the textbook. Very clear with everything, has his own website with all information and his own easy homework system. Chegg helps with HW. Tests all Multiple choice. 10/10
Awesome. Clear and Precise. Literally, one of the best professor I had this semester. Is available even outside of class. Responds to emails and addresses all your concerns. Taking him next semester for 208. yay!
Worst mistake of my life was taking him. Hes very tough honestly take a semester off and take someone else who is easier. Unless if you are very good with physics then take him but from my experience he was very bad. Mean as well in person.
Easy class. The last time I took physics was 5 years ago and the class was still very manageable. Exams are worth 80% of the total grade so those are all you need to do well on. Exams were all multiple choice and easy. I put very little effort and did well on exams, got hw solutions from chegg and bs'd lab reports and came out with an A-.
Professor Hedberg is one of the best professors I've had. He is fair and knowledgeable. If you participate in class with at least 80% of his clicker questions, he will give you extra credit (He also curves). As long as you read from the textbook and practice with his homework questions, you will do well in the class.
The best professor I've ever had for Physics. I actually understood the concepts in class and the exams were fair. He is nice, caring and always available to help in his office hours or via email. Taking him was one of the best decisions ever.
In class demos are great.
The in class demos are fantastic and his exams are only testing your understanding of the concepts. Know how to derive all formulas! He curves. The labs can be garbage depending on your Lab instructor. Do the hw, and study concepts you'll do fine. He also has office hours. His website and physics sims are awesome. I would definitely take him again.
He's an amazing professor. I hadn't touched a science for a couple years and I still found the class manageable. He makes the class exciting by using in class demo's. Granted this is physics, so the material isn't easy. Just reading the notes he provides and using the homework system (PRACTICE!) can get you the grade you want from this class.
This man is a true educator. CCNY is lucky to have him. He makes the class engaging and really cares about the students. He's a tough love kind of guy. Put in the work and you have nothing to worry about. There is an art to preparing for and taking his tests. He wants you to think, not just solve equations. Can seem disgruntled/irritable in person.
Hedberg is one of the best physics professors I have taken so far. His lectures are always worth going to because he demonstrates so many cool things. He makes you think a lot during the exams. The exams aren't crazy math computation but rather conceptual. Know the concept! Read his slides! Redo HW! Also, go to his office hours for help! He cares.
Here is the breakdown of how he teaches, he posts up homework with teaching materials online. However, the lectures are just jokes about physics. He just shows you how it works, he won't give you any pointers for the exams during the lectures. He is also not the nicest so I dont know.
Lectures arent that helpful, just teach yourself and his tests arent that easy. He also loves online homework. Not that helpful
One of the worst classes I ever took. He doesnt teach anything. Just posts all the modules online and expect you to know everything. Materials dont help while doing his hard online homework. If you wanna pass this class get ready to teach yourself.
I got my grade because I studied out of class not because of him. His modules never helped and neither did his corny jokes. Class is useless. If you take him, go to tutoring and work on your own. but if you can avoid him.
This was the worst professor I ever come across in city college. He doesn't care about his students at all. Have hard online homework without actually teaching the students the materials. He isn't flexible with students either.
Got into multiple argument's with this professor, for many little thing like a ruler and calculator that he never handed me, and you have to teach everything to yourself. I asked if there's anything you need help with he will not help you and say turn to the book. if there's any chance to avoid this professor for any of his classes do it. AVOID IT
In all honesty, he is rude and makes you do a bunch of hw online WITH NO EXPLANATIONS. Office hours are just useless. He clearly doesnt want to teach. Avoid, or if you do take, hope someone else before you has the notes. Teach yourself and beware of the tests
Best professor I've had so far. He did not do tests but required a project as the final.
I find that Professor Hedberg really cares and tries his best to make physics as intelligible as possible for a wide range of students! His constant use of the round cat Mr. Mittens in his hw problems makes you chuckle a bit. Hope I get the name right, but if the class is online you may get a chance at meeting Mr. Meow Meows (his actual cat).
THIS MAN IS A GEM AND A WHOLE PHYSICIST. DURING CLASS, HE SHOWS A LOT OF MINI TOOLS IN HIS DESK BY APPLYING THEM TO EVERY PHYSICS CONCEPT WE LEARN IN HIS CLASS. HIS ASSIGNMENTS CAN BE KIND OF TRICKY BUT TOWARDS THE END, YOU WILL LEARN A LOT BECAUSE THEY ARE TO HELP YOUR BRAIN THINK WITHIN THE PHYSICS WORLD AROUND US INSTEAD OF PLUGGING IN FORMULAS.
I just can't pass with him as a student who never take physics before
idk why he has such bad ratings here. PHYSICS IS HARD in general and he will be ur best bet as a professor. He provides the lecture slides which also comes with cool simulations. He also does actual physics in class at his house using his kids toys . He has lecture clicker questions every class so you should pay attention. OVERALL SOLID PROF!
There are many great professors in the physics department, I would definitely put Professor Hedberg in the top 5 of them, easily. Breaks down and demonstrates complex topics in way that's very accessible, and makes sure that you understand the concepts of what you're doing. Absolutely would recommended taking his class if you get a chance.
Professor Hedberg is simply THE best. I can't wait to re-take him for future physics classes.
Professor Hedberg explains material very clearly and goes at a pace that ensures everyone understands-- he will answer your question thoroughly with positive spirit! Prof. Hedberg was considerate of challenges of online school and made accommodations that were more than fair. He loves imagination and especially astronomy. Very interesting man.
Worst professor i have ever taken, he is a very tough grader and not empathetic at all. Does not give any clear guidelines, and is all over the place. Only grades the whole semester with 4 hws. Grades everything after a month. Stay away from him.
Dr. Hedberg is a great professor. His approach to pedagogy is refreshing and he truly cares about his students and their learning. A warning; if you're someone like me who performs better in a more rigid, hardline classroom environment, this class may prove to be more difficult than, say, a very rigidly structured class like PHYS 353 with Dr. Boyer
the goat of ccny physics
Pros: -responds to hw questions via email Cons: -only responds to hw questions -Concepts are not taught well in lecture (plus he easily gets sidetracked), such that self-studying is required for completing hw and doing well on exams -not an empathetic grader... little to no partial points
The reviews weren't lying, prof Hedberg is something else when it comes to pedagogy. Instead of mindless writing on a board, the lectures are straightforward and interactive. No typical exams in this course; mainly mini-report style HWs with an astro-related final project. Some planetarium visits here and there. Truly an underrated course.
His lectures suck
If you are going to take him be ready to fail the class. he doesn't know how to teach and his lectures are useless. don't take him ever.
This professor is so bad at teaching mostly everyone in this class failed all his exams and your grade is based on 2 exams, the final, and labs. He doesn't care about students and is hard to get in contact with.
lecs are not good, prof does not know how to teach for his exams. material is not consistent you have no idea what to expect on a test and he makes an intro course much harder than it needs to be as it is mostly theoretical with derivations.
Honestly, don't take this professor if you want to keep your sanity, HE SUCKSSS. His lectures don't help you prepare for the exams, he just yaps a lot, he gives 2 midterms and 1 final His tests are based on concepts and really hard to pass. Majority of the class fails. He is really hard to contact and he mostly relies on the textbook. He don't care
i listened to The Big Gloom after each of his exams. osrs tho, his lectures aren't even bad, but they're nothing like his exams, same with textbook questions or hw, which he doesn't grade. he only gave us a practice for exam 1. he's had to curve both exams so far because the averages are like 10/30.
It's a pretty tough class
Its a hard class but hes not a bad prof He has good lectures, sure they're a bit vague, but theres only so much you can do within 4hrs a week, he cant afford to hyperfixiate on everything, especially in a large setting, you must self study too as much as possible. He cares a lot and curves way more than he should, hes def not unfair. USE THE BOOK.
Overall solid prof. Your entire grade is determined by 100 multiple choice questions but he gave an insane curve, 40% on tests was a C. Uploads lecture notes but your best bet is to read the textbook and understand concepts as much as you can.
He is okay you have to write what he says in class I dont think he will teach next semester but He is nice with the curves and loves to answer question.
It makes me sad to give him such a low rating because he actually is an awesome professor and lecturer, but his tests are so bad, and he gives absolutely no preparation for them. I felt like I was going in blind for each test. Also, his exams are multiple choice, so there's no chance of partial credit
He was lenient when it came to grading. But when it came to the exams, I never really knew what's the questions we're gonna be on. If he had given us practice exams, I believe that would've helped us so much. In order to understand what was truly going to be tested on. I believe he was a pretty decent professor and did his best. So, respect to him.
If you're just learning physics and how the world works then he is an amazing lecturer. Throughout the semester, he taught physics through clear understanding information and experiment. I'm sure he's a great guy when it comes to talking about physics. However, exams are unpredictable due to homework and in class example being different from exams.
His curve is INSANE, but it's hard to prepare for his exams. He gives a lot of theory based questions and equation manipulation. His exam questions are easy in itself, so if you had a good foothold on physics you should be good. I would say take him just for the curve!!
Hes a cool guy and his lectures were really good. I felt like the test questions were kind of unpredictable but they were not that bad. Definitely one of the better science professors at ccny
