The class was veryyy boring. Has a very soft voice and doesnt use a mic. Tons of conversations are going on during class. There are pop quizzes at the end of class, and it is over the notes from the day before. He let me make up 5 quizzes that I missed w/out an excuse, so he is very helpful. Tests are straight from the powerpoints online.

Dr. Higdon is a good teacher. A downside is if you have his class in a lecture hall, he does not use a mic. He does give pop quizes, but they are rather easy. All true/false questions. Tests are mediocre. Average grade is about a 75%. He is a researcher in Astronomy, so he knows what he is talking about. I really enjoyed this class.

This is the easiest class I've ever taken. I got a 107 on the first 2 tests, 95 on the 3rd, and 96 on the final. I got a 102 in the class (he drops your lowest test grade). I never opened my book. Tests are straight from notes, which he puts online. You must go to class to take 10 quizzes. He drops lowest 2. He is hilarious & you should take him.

This class was overly boring.. to the point where 87% of the class doesnt show on a regular basis. He posts the notes online which is good. The tests arent that bad, but at times they dont pertain to the study guide so you have to review the slideshows. I do not recommend this class AT ALL unless you have an interest in astronomy

Yeah, the guy is boring and you may have trouble staying awake. Attendance is somewhat mandatory because he gives ten pop quizzes. But he posts his notes online and the tests aren't that hard. I actually enjoyed his class. For me, his lectures were interesting and his tests weren't relatively hard. You definitely have to show up and pay attention, though. He's a rather nice fellow! Also, don't leave class early because he will take attendance in the form of a "pop quiz" (writing your name on a piece of paper) at the end some classes.

His lectures are long and boring, lost my interest very easily. He will get distracted and talk about something completely off topic. He tells you at the beginning of the semester there will be 10 pop quizzes but doesn't tell you when he gives them obviously. Test are multiple choice and true and false, pop quizzes are true and false.

He is very enthusiastic and passionate about his subject matter and treats this 1000 level class like a 3000+ level. Most of the grades come from tests. You must print the lecture notes and study them thoroughly. Don't skip class; he gives pop quizzes randomly. Unless you really enjoy science I would not recommend this class because it's not easy.

Dr Higdon basically just goes thru Powerpoints and he often erased his own notes on the board. We used the $60 lab manuals ONCE, and due to that he made the 3-4 HW grades of the class worth 20%. His tests were pretty easy sometimes but probably due to class averages being in the 50s. Overall, I wouldn't recommend him to anyone taking Physics 1.
