Hoeffner makes the class very easy and exams are basically straight from the notes (available online). He has a great sense of humor and made lecture very interesting and fun.

He speaks way too fast! You cannot understand any thing in lecture and it is a waste of time to go. He posts all of the lecture notes on line and you can just read those. Class is a joke and it is easy to get an A.

Easy and straightforward.
He is a darling old man, but this class is SO boring that it becomes hard because you never want to go to it. Don't worry though papers make up for it. VERY easy class.. great upper level writing requirment choice.
SO easy
easy A
Easy if you study the materials, but boring.
Lectures are boring, but...he posts all lecture notes on the internet. As long as you take the time to print them off and study them, you'll never have to attend lectures (except for exams) and you'll get an easy A!
His lectures are very interesting
Really nice guy, but can be very boring. He basically just reads teh notes you can get online... thus the lectures are not necessary. Easy course!
The lectures are so boring and pointless. Don't even go, because you can get the notes off ctools. His tests are not too bad, if you study.
Boring and tests were ridiculously stupid multiple choice. When you put 4 answers with one adjective or preposition differing, you may your test impossible for someone how has to deal with 59 other questions the same way in less than 40 mins (yea 40. You waste 10 mins before taking the damn test)
Reading his slides, you can cram for the final the night before. Before the exams, Hoffner gives a review sheet that tells you everything you need to ace the test. Reading supplemental materials is not necessary to get an A in the class (at least for me).
This class is a piece of cake.

The class itself is perfect for anyone looking to get into the field of psychology. Dr. Hoeffner is a very helpful professor and his slides and review sheets are perfect. Low workload and as long as you stay on top of the reading the class is a piece of cake.
Can be funny at times but lectures are on the dull side. Very easy multiple choice tests. Puts all notes on ctools. Very interesting class.
Ridiculously easy class. My roommate and I were both in his lecture, and we stopped going after about the 3rd week into the semester, and we still both got A's in the class. He is a cool guy and his New York-style accent is awesome.
This class is a good way to fulfill the upper level writing requirement. For fulfilling the ULWR, it doesn't seem to have as much writing as you'd expect. The bad thing is that this class is sooo boring. It makes it very difficult to work up the motivation to go to lecture. The exams are multiple choice, but can be a bit tricky.
Awesome ULWR choice. I hardly did any work for this class or studied for it, because of my other classes, and still got a solid A. Write your papers according to the rubric and look up the terms on the study guide at least once and you'll be set.
so easy...i actually think it might have been easier than middle school. it is a great upper level writing course and just follow the directions for the assignments and you are bound to get an A. you do not have to read and merely use the "textbook" which is only about 30 pages long to look up terms on the study guide.
This class was so easy. It was the second time he had ever taught this class and didn't really know what he was doing. He read straight from the lecture slides and pulled all his info on exams from lecture so as lost as u read the slides u would do good, attendence not that important slides online
class was easy. he looked really nervous - drinking water every 2 minutes, talking at 100mph, and not even noticing that his mike had slipped off his collar. but overall, it was okay.
Had him for Psych 111 and 303 and he is the easiest Psych Prof in the department. Minimal work for 111 and just papers for 303 (your GSI's correct rough drafts for you). His exams are always M.C. and are easy. Hoeff is friendly outside of class too.
I love taking Hoeffner's classes. I've taken 3 of them so far and have enjoyed all of them. He's a cool guy, be sure to take at least one of his classes :)
Psych 303 is not a walk in the park. Your grade depends on who your GSI is. The GSI may have different criteria than another GSI. Also, my GSI set extra requirements that Hoeffner didn't set. My GSI was a tough grader. The 2nd exam was more difficult than first 2, mostly cause he rushed through the previous lecture. Otherwise, good lecturer!
don't go to lecture, it's a waste of your time and he is hard to understand. The book is basically useless, maybe just for terms, but this class is all about the GSI. the class has no format and every gsi is different which can get very annoying. the are all hard graders. the tests are easy, just learn the slides...but the papers- annoying
The exams are very easy in this class (study a bit more for the stats one). The papers are dependent upon your GSI, but you can turn in drafts... so your almost guaranteed a good grade if you can get the draft in.
The lecture/exam portion of this class is not bad at all. The papers can add up, but it's ULWR, so it's expected.
With 3 tests and 6 papers this test is a lot of work. I was fortunate to have a good GSI (Rika Meyer). Take the rubric given and follow it to a tee and you will do fine. I found the second exam (Stats) very difficult, but Stats is not my thing.
Makes class as interesting as can be...boring material. great for an ULWR!!! yes, there are 6 papers but they are 2,2,3,3,4,6 pages- not hard at all.
BORING! but easy! Lots of papers bust very straight-forward. Plus you get to hand in drafts yo your GSIs beforehand and get feedback before handing in a final. Exams (3) are a joke!
He is from long island and completely useless. Don't take cogpsych with him.
Boring material, can't be helped. Either read the text or go to lecture, doing both is a waste of time. Exams are easy, hope for a not-so-strict gsi for grading papers. Hoeffner is really nice and helpful.
He was great and his exams are very straightforward. Your class grade is determined almost exclusively by your GSI but there are 3 exams that are pretty easy except the second exam is harder.
Unfortunately, the class material is boring, but it was super easy. The class is supposed to run 2 hours, but we were rarely there more than 1 hour. Hoeffner's thick Jersey accent is a little hard to get used to at first, and he goes a bit fast with lecture material, but he's funny and helpful. Also, I never read the book and still aced the quizzes
Not a bad professor, but least favorite psych class so far. Lectures had WAY too many slides! Material is very technical and boring, but prof. does cool demos in class. Maybe I'm just terrible at cogpsych, but the exams are really hard. Didn't help that I had a terrible GSI who was very unhelpful and strict. Wouldn't recommend this class at all.
he's a very boring lecturer while moving way too fast to write notes down at the same time. not a good combination. occasionally does cool demos in class but generally i'd wait until a different prof is teaching cog psych to take it if i could do it over...
Hoeffner is a good professor, sometimes a little disorganized and powerpoints too wordy and lengthy at times. He is a clear orator but class is dry because of the material. Exams are strangely worded and somewhat difficult (b- average for the class...) but overall, I would recommend this class
DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CLASS. The average for the first mid-term was a B-..And it's not curved. Slides jump in logic. Not helpful if you dont have notes. BUT it's extremely hard to take notes because he talks fast, or slow.. who knows..
Overall a great prof and a really nice guy. Makes lectures fun with examples and gets you involved. Knows the concepts and you're fine.
3 tests, top 2 worth 25%, bottom worth 20%, paper worth 25%, weekly quizzes worth 5% in section (6 questions, grade out of 5) provides good demos but class is often boring and can drag on, hard to stay focused. gives an in depth review guide with every term needed. tests were hard, he gave slight curves and seemed to make tests easier as it went on
TERRIBLE professor. Disorganized and reads off the slides which are extremely poorly made. He doesn't even thoroughly understand the material himself. This class will end up being mostly self-taught. He really made an interesting topic rather painful. Take it with someone else if you can.
So unbelievably boring. But its easy, so there's that. Annoying accent, sounds like Peter from Family Guy. A lot of writing assignments but not too bad.
Easiest class ever. I didn't pay attention in lecture and put in minimal effort on the short essays, got an A. LOVE IT. The prof was adorable and funny. Now back to studying for classes that require effort..aka ECON 401. :(
Exams are multiple choice and are very easy. Great professor. He's down to earth and doesn't make miraculous claims about the power of research in psychology and recognizes that it's still a new and budding field of science. No nonsense focus on the course material
Understand the material well and uses a no nonsense teacher style. Not the most interesting professor but if you like the subject material you'll quickly learn that he doesn't make over arching claims about psychology and admits there are a lot of limitation to what we know. He will leave you with a solid foundation of what to really expect.
This is the hardest psych class I took. The material was overwhelming and confusing, and it didn't help that he sped through 70 lecture slides in an hour. I honestly had no idea what I was doing in that class, and unfortunately my GSI wasn't very helpful. Too bad it's required for many people to take this. I wish you good luck.
Most ridiculous psych class i have taken. The lectures were boring as can be and the lecture slides contained like 60-70 slides a lecture. Trying to study for this class is a nightmare in my opinion. Take it with someone else if you can.
I took this class thinking it would be interesting. Hoeffner's a nice guy but is not a very interesting lecturer. Reads off of slides barely explaining them and speaks way too fast. The exams are not an easy A, but a doable B+ or A- if you study.
His powerpoints are so unorganized and offer no information. He reads directly off the slides and attendance is not mandatory, thank god, because going to lecture is pointless. Not super hard if you study everything on his review sheets but be ready for tricky questions meant to throw you off. Quizzes every week in discussion.
Attending lecture is useless. His slides are very unorganized and confusing. Discussion is a nightmare because no points are awarded for participation, just the quizzes you take there. His lectures are very boring and tests are of the A,B, C =A and B or D all of the above.
I never went to lecture because it was pointless, my time was better spent going through the slides at home. The discussion quizzes and the exams were actually really difficult. I imagine this class would be an easy A if you went to class, which you laugh now, but by the end of the semester there will literally be only a dozen students in lecture.
Hoeffner is the worst. His lectures are boring, unorganized and unclear. He expects students to know every facet of every concept he has discussed for exams. Exam questions are unclear and meant to trick you (a and b, all of the above, a b but not c etc). Discussion does not help. Definitely not an easy class, avoid him if you can.
Absolutely awful. I was really excited for this class but the way he teaches is terrible. He posts lecture slides online but doesn't include all of them so if you don't go to lecture you will miss out on a few. His "study guide" was hardly helpful since it basically said: know everything about anything I ever mentioned.
Hoeffner doesn't do anything tremendous to make the class exciting, but if you're interested anyways you'll enjoy it. He can go through ppt slides a little fast at times, but for the most part it's very straightforward. I go to every lecture and do a bit of studying before exams and get all As and A+'s.
hate this class, his exam questions are not straight forward and are meant to be applied. he gives you a study guide but it doesn't really help. I'm hoping for an A/A- in this class but most difficult psych class i've taken. i would never have taken it if it wasn't required.
Lectures are very boring, sometimes hard to understand the professor, need to know details from the slides for exam. Helpful to go to lecture because the posted slides don't have all of the details that he goes over in class
Lectures were horribly disorganized, working with powerpoints with over 60 slides. Definitely a knowledgable guy in his field but not a good teacher. Avoid if possible.
He is extremely boring and never seems to get through any of the lecture slides. Lectures are extremely unorganized. I would not recommend him
Avoid Hoeffner if you can. His lectures were very dry and boring, and he basically just reads straight off his slides. I didn't feel like I was getting much out of going to the lectures. The exams were tricky and asked some off-the-wall kinds of questions. Overall, it was a frustrating class.
I've heard that Hoeffner gets a bad rep from Psych 240, but Psych 341 was a blast. The course is relatively easy. You rarely ever stay for longer than 1 hour per class. Hoeffner is helpful and attentive, and grades relatively leniently. I would definitely take this class for the lab requirements for Psych/BCN. Learned a lot!
He basically reads the slides out loud. Not an exciting lecture, but I suggest attending anyway to avoid the alternative- the textbook. I got an A+ in the class and all I did was make flash cards for the terms and memorize them. Boring, but effective. He is very approachable with questions if you ask him before/after class or even during an exam.
He reads right off the slides, and doesn't give good examples or clear descriptions. When he hands out a study guide, almost none of the information on it was covered in lecture or the book.
I was skeptical after reading the less than positive reviews here but Hoeffner was actually a relatively engagingfunny guy . Exams were really easy and there were no assignmentspapers.
I had Hoeffner for 240 and didn't love him, but 341 is VERY different. The class is small, so you have more chance for 1-on-1 interaction. He's very clear about grading, and assignments are pretty simple. Lots of group work, so prepare for that. But the class is VERY easy, and it always lets out early!
Professor Hoeffner isn't a great lecturer (he talks fast and reads directly from slides), but this class is super easy to do on your own. I went to lecture and studied the slides and was completely fine.
Lecture can be a little boring but Hoeffner definitely explains things clearly. He wants students to do well and is super helpful, and even offered a major extra credit opportunity to my class when one test had a lower average. Definitely worth taking it's not a hard class.
Memorize lecture slides and you should receive an A. The first test is fairly easy but don't slack off. Plus the extra credit helps.
I'm appalled to see positive reviews for Prof. Hoeffner. Teaching style, presentation aesthetic, and disregard for conceptual depth is beyond disappointing. No fluidity in lecture and merely reads off the slides in a hasted manner. Exams demand analysis and detail scarcely found in lecture. Do not take, find another prof, or learn on your own.
Lectures are incredibly boring and his voice is just annoying. The exams are harder than most other psych classes, tons of information on slides that is just all jumbled together and not very organized. One of the worst psych classes I've taken here.
Prof Hoeffner is a great. The class was extremely interesting. He provides a lot of help both in and out of class and is extremely understanding of students' needs. The exams are not difficult at all so long that you attended class. Also Ziyong is an AMAZING GSI so try to have her if possible.
The information is very interesting, however, the textbook and the lecture slides tend to vary about half the time, so I suggest going through slides and reading. Attendance not mandatory. Most people quit going after a few weeks because lectures were sometimes a bit dry. 3 non-cumulative exams + weekly quizzes.
I've been in this class for 3 days and I already regret taking it w/ him.
I felt that his lectures were boring and his voice was quite monotone. He tends to reference one image or example to illustrate a concept. But the GSI sections tended to be a weekly review and clarification rather than intellectual discussion. Though repetitive, it helped me get a good grade.
A boring lecturer, he is very intelligent but it feels like when he is teaching he's going through a rehearsed script. Hard to pay attention to sometimes but overall an easy course.
Lectures are extremely boring. Luckily slides are posted online. Quizzes every week in section so be on time. No papers!! Extra credit just for doing the practice exams. If you have to take 240, taking it with Hoeffner isn't a bad choice.
Reads right from the powerpoints. I'm prepping for the first exam and I feel like I know nothing. Gives reviews and practice exams so hopefully those are somewhat helpful. Very boring lectures though. If it wasn't so far into the semester, I would've switched out.
Seems like a really nice, and intelligent, guy. Takes a little while to get back to emails, but his answers are usually helpful.
He's not the most exciting lecturer and reads basically word for word off the powerpoint. While lectures could help you depending on your learning style, for others they're not totally necessary. There's not much reading from the textbook either. As long as you review the powerpoints and important terms well, you should get a solid grade on exams.
Hoeffner's lectures are pretty boring but you can tell he really cares about the material and he puts in lots of videos and examples to change things up. Plus there's no papers for this class just 3 exams and if you pay attention in lecture and look over your notes you'll be fine
This class was a pretty easy A if you went about it the right way. Lectures aren't necessary but some comments by Hoeffner are not on the powerpoints and sometimes show up on the test. Grade is basically just the three exams and are all very easy as long as you study the Powerpoints and memorize everything. 5 of the 50 test questions are tricky.
I really enjoyed the material of Psych 240 when studying it, however, Dr. Hoeffner's lectures were not great. The powerpoints were extremely long and Hoeffner spends a long time on the easy material and speeds through the harder stuff. Don't spend hundreds of dollars on a new textbook because it will be barely touched...
Psych 240 is an easy class, but Hoeffner does not make the course interesting and his lectures drag on. Fine class to fulfill Psych Major requirement, but don't take this class for fun.
The course is a little dry and it's not helpful that Hoeffner reads directly off the slides. The three tests make up 80% of the grading in the course so if you do poorly on one exam it can tank your grade. Luckily he gives you a comprehensive study guide and practice exam a week before the exam. He can be really funny sometimes.
Dr. Hoeffner is by far and large the worst lecturer I have had at the Univeristy. He moves fast and reads directly off the slides. His powerpoints are long and it is easy to lose interest during his lecture. However, the content is easy and the class was a breeze, all of my problems lay within the proffessor not the class.
James is good if you're looking for an A, but be ready to memorize a lot. Just do the slides. Book is definitely not necessary.
If you had 240 with Hoeffner and don't want to take 341 with him you'll be making a mistake. He makes the class interesting, gives you a lot of autonomy on your project, and the class always gets out early. On top of that its very easy to get an A.
Dr. Hoeffner is was a good choice. Three 40 question exams and 2 papers.
Very mediocre professor. It's a pretty easy A, but the lectures are very boring; he just reads directly off the slideshow most of the time.
I've really enjoyed being Dr. Hoeffner's student. Although his lectures are definitely boring and dry, he knows what he's talking about. You can tell that he's passionate and he does his best to get through to material. I love Dr. Hoeffner because he's extremely reasonable. He makes study guides, easy exams, and is overall a super nice guy.
Some lectures were more interseting than others depending on the topic. Lecture slides are posted online if you cannot make it to lecture, though discussion is a must. Overall good class, and he's a really nice guy.
Hoeffner is an okay lecturer. He reads directly off the slides, which is boring, but you can tell he cares about psych and what he's teaching. The class itself is really easy. If you're taking this for your major Hoeffner is an easy A and really great, but if you're taking it for fun, it's better if you have a different professor.
Hoeffner is generally understanding as a person and a professor. He responds to emails and cares about his students. However, his lectures are kind of boring unless you really make an effort to listen. The PSYCH111 material is very interesting, especially for psych majors. Go to discussion sections, they have quizzes that really affect your grade.
Hoeffner's nice and all, though his lectures are really boring unless you find a way to engage yourself. I wouldn't take a class with him again on purpose, but if there were no other options I wouldn't be upset.
He makes this class about the basics more entertaining. I got 100 on the first exam so I stopped reading the book and still got As on the last two exams. Just go to lecture and pay attention and you will be fine. Also, if you took any psychology in high school this class will be incredibly easy. It is mostly just memorization.
He's not a bad guy, but he is a terrible lecturer. His lectures are very dry. If you're actually interested in the subject material, I would recommend a different professor, but if you're looking for an easy A and credit, he's your best bet.
Very easy course with easy material, but Jim does not teach it well. His lecture slides are not organized and focus on information that is rarely on the test. Pretty boring and dry lectures. Will give exam review sheets and an extra credit option, easy to get an A. Weekly quizzes in discussion. Hope that you have a good gsi, Jim doesnt teach well
Hoeffner's lectures are boring, but the material is straightforward enough and the class is easy, especially because he provides practice exams, review sheets, and an end-of-semester extra credit opportunity. My only gripe beyond the boredom is that the weekly quizzes in section can be a pain.
Great professor who is very passionate about what he is teaching. Looked forward to going to class. I would definitely recommend taking 240 with Hoeffner.
Smart, nice guy but he talks fast and can be hard to follow. Boring lectures that rely heavily on slides, don't bother with the book. A lot of material covered in a short period. 3 tests determine your entire grade and questions can be unnecessarily convoluted. Do poorly on a test and your grade tanks. This class ruined my 4.0. Avoid if you can.
Boring lectures, mandatory discussion attendance and weekly quizzes, need to read the textbook because his lectures don't cover everything on the exam, medium difficulty.
Seems like he's used to teaching higher level classes, but still obviously knowledgeable in the topic. The class was easy if you fill out the study guide, and everything was interesting to learn about. Lectures can sometimes be boring but aren't necessary to attend
Hoeffner was fine. His lectures are incredibly boring and he literally just reads of the lecture slides which he posts online, so you literally don't need to go to lecture if you read the book/lectures. Quizzes every discussion section but they were super easy, only 6 questions each. The class could've been way more interesting.
Hoeffner tries to crack a lot of jokes in lecture - some funny, some not. As long as you show up to all of the lectures and actively listen while taking notes, it is very easy to get an A in this class. You have weekly quizzes in discussion which can be difficult, but just study the vocab from the book for that week and you'll do fine.
Psych 111 with Hoeffner was the worst class I've taken at UofM. He reads straight from the lecture slides and doesn't explain things well at all. The weekly quizzes are hard and the discussions are pointless. We didn't even cover some of his questions on exams or the questions would be about very specific material we barely covered. Worst class!
Very unclear in both lectures and slides.
Doesn't teach anything but the slides in lecture and doesn't answer questions properly. tests are based half on the textbook and on stuff he doesn't even mention in class.
Prof Hoeffner is awesome, if you need a lab requirement for the BCN major I would really recommend this class! For someone who hates writing papers, I thought the assignments were very doable and he always explained exactly what he wanted to see in our papers. Super nice guy, funny, helpful, and he would let us out early alot.
His lectures are the most boring thing ever. He does not teach anything he just reads the slides. Read the entire book or you will not pass. The questions on tests he literally just pulls out of his literally no where not out of anywhere that you would think. If you have the option do not take it with this professor.
Dr. Hoeffner is one of the kindest professors I've had - he really wants his students to do well in his class. I didn't like his lectures at all, but attendance isn't mandatory so after I while I stopped showing up & just read the slides. He gives a detailed review guide for all 3 exams & it's easy to ace them just based on those.
The lectures were asynchronous, and I mainly relied on them to prep for exams (there were 2). Had discussion every Friday so there were quizzes every Friday. Pretty simple class, so long as you watch the lectures, youll be fine. Didnt really use the textbook though. Professor Hoeffner also doesnt explain material that well.
The lectures were asynchronous and I slowly stopped watching them. The weekly quizzes are easy if you know your stuff though. Thankfully I took AP Psych just last year so I knew what he was talking about, but his lectures can sometimes be all over the place and just plain confusing. My GSI for this class also didn't help in any way.
There are a lot of new terminologies in this class. And he likes to give examples to explain them, which is good. But I would also like concrete definitions to those terminologies which in many cases are not given. Also his voice is a monotone and boring after a while.
Refuses to put lecture recordings up even when students are quarantined, lectures are all over the place and unorganized, making it hard to follow along, especially since he rushes through them.
These lectures are some of my favorite to attend. The videos and little experiments we do in class are so much fun, and Prof. Hoeffner seems to really enjoy teaching the subject. I've only had one exam so far but am on pace for an A/A+, and my only complaint was that there was only 1 practice exam and the questions are pretty random.
Gives little clarification about material. Does not record lectures, therefore if you miss too bad. In addition, the slides posted are different from the slides in class so attendance is importat. The only points in the class are from the three exams, (300 points) and from the discussion section (100 points).
Class attendance is completely optional because the slides are posted online. The exams cover a lot of things not mentioned in the lecture so pay attention to the study guides. The class is all memorization so do not take it if you cannot memorize 200 terms before each exam.
Dr. Hoeffner was an okay lecturer. He just read off the slides, so it sometimes got boring. This class is mostly graded based off of tests so you have to do well on those in order to get a good grade.
All memorization for exams. Otherwise, pretty easy. Also, not the best about trigger warnings when it comes to heavy topics.
Hoeffner's class was very meh and non-remarkable. The exams aren't hard but they are way easier if you just go to class and listen, even though attendance isn't mandatory. As a lecturer, he's not boring, but went through the material very slowly. Easy A if you put a little effort in, keep up with the material, and show up to discussion
Very easy class and tests, lectures were engaging and fun.
nice guy but he talks so fast it is impossible to keep up with him and the lecture notes. I went into the first test thinking it was going to be fairly easy but he writes his multiple choices so that there is often a seemingly correct trick answer. The class is still overall fairly easy, just expect to have to study a bit for the tests.
This class is VERY heavy on exams. He goes through the slides quickly. The exams are 40 questions, but the study guides can consist of up to 250+ terms so be prepared to memorize a lot. Also two very short essays. Search on quizlet for study sets that are already made to save you time! (I made 3)!
The online grading was very confusing and they did not let us know about our grade to the end. He goes very fast during lecture and does not record them meaning if you miss them it will be hard to get the information. Material itself was pretty average as long as you studied all the terms.
he goes very fast in lecture and does not record them so u have to show up. papers were very easy as were the weekly quizzes in section but exams required a lot of time to study as each review sheet had 4-6 pages full of terms to memorize. some questions on the exams were worded weird and Hoeffner was often unable to answer students' questions
Exams were 40 MC but the study guides given were 3-5 pages long with various terms listed. The very first lecture I was already irritated by how fast he goes because I could not finish my notes. You are simply told to know the terms and then the exam asks you difficult questions applying the concepts (that were never discussed).
Hoeffner made the ULWR so easy! He walked through each section of the research paper with very straight forward explanation of what he expected from us. At the end you do a research project (can do with a group) and present it (very short). Every class you do a lab and can leave early if you finish and work in groups. Very knowledgable & kind guy!
Hoeffner's lectures move quickly, so attending is a must. The exams focus heavily on memorizing terms, but using study tools like quizzes and unstuck ai can help prep efficiently. Overall a manageable class if you put in the work.
Horrible not nice and doesn't care about students
Grade is determined by 3 exams worth 75% of grade. Other 25% is discussion section which has weekly quizzes. Not very hard. Reason I got my grade is because I didn't study as well as I should've. Not homework heavy. Recommend this class!
I got an ok grade, + Dr. Hoeffner is very nice! But, the study guides he gives are very long (3-5 pages of terms), so they take A LOT of time. He goes through lectures fast and isn't always clear with material. Discussions are ok, but the weekly quizzes are hard. The wording can be VERY odd, resulting in confusion and missed points, same for exams.
Dr. Hoeffner makes the ULWR so manageable! His lectures at the beginning of each class prepare you well for quizzes, and each paper goes over a different section of an APA style paper to report experimental results. The last paper entails writing every section for a chosen study that you conduct with groups. Couldn't recommend this class more!!
The slides are really not very helpful, the class itself is very boring. CLass depends on the GSI , your GSI is the one deciding the grades, the assignments make no sense. Overall, the class is super dysfunctional and do not take it with this proffessor.
Dr. Hoeffner isn't particularly lacking, but overall the course is mediocre. There are no lecture recordings, and he reads word for word from the slides, which are not well-designed. The actual teaching will be done by GSIs. The study guides are horrible - 4 pages w/ a lot of material not even tested, so it's a total gamble of what to study.
Moves a little quick, but he's not as boring as people say. Grading system is not the best, heavy emphasis on exams, and some questions on said exams can be ultra specific. Discussion sections are also not my favorite, the weekly quizzes can be more difficult than they should be. Attend and pay attention in lecture, and you'll be fine.
Overall the material of this class was very interesting, but he was not a good professor at all. During the lecture he reads straight off of the slides and does not bother going into more detail about what the slides have to say. The lectures are pointless. I spent the entire semester teaching myself the class. Papers are easy, but exams are hard.
Lectures were awful: he reads off the slides word-for-word, jumping around from topic to topic. Save yourself the effort and skip all lectures. It's 10x faster to just read the powerpoint and self-study. The exams are straight forward if you know your stuff, but 3 exams are basically your whole grade. The weekly quizzes were also annoying.
This course was one of the worst courses I have ever taken. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE if you don't have to, especially with this profesor. He just read of the slides (that did not convey information well), he made every single topic boring and monotonous. In exams the questions are stated in a long and convoluted way that make little sense.
hoeffner is great but lectures are very much based on slides. as long as you read textbook you are ok
He's a nice guy, but lectures can be a slog, and you can self-study while still getting the same learning experience. The weekly quizzes were kinda lame sometimes. Make sure you do well on the exams because they're basically your entire grade!
