Not the best teacher, but his tests are very easy (20 question multiple choice) and offers a lot of extra credit points. Show up for class and you should do well.
Took night class he goes over lecture for each new chapter fairly quickly the 1st time, but will give time to ask questions. If you read the chapter & do most homework the tests are fairly easy. He doesn't try to throw you off on the tests too bad. Much better than other options for professors!
This is an easily class. His test are easy. He can drag lectures out and has a story for everything. He sometimes does not do a good job with explaining some things. You will definitely stay awake in the class. There also are a lot of bonus points that are given out in his class. You have no excuse not to do well. Must attend class-role is taken!!
His style is different, but because of it he actually taught me something about accounting. And he made me want to become an accountant. He's a really good teacher. What the others say so far is true. Just do the homework. Also go over the questions in the study guide.
Easiest accoutning class teacher out there. Gives you very small quizzes right before each test for extra credit. Then may curve the test if the grades are poorer than expected. I don't do any homework, don't have the book, just use the book's website to learn the material. Should be an easy A!
Very good professor. If you're not looking forward to taking an accounting class, this is definitely the professor to get. Not that hard of a class if you study and do homework, and he keeps sometimes boring lessons interesting with his stories
If you are on top of your work, you will be good in the class
Best accounting teacher in my opinion. I failed Accounting 203 two previous times, and I'm getting a B in Prof. Hollands class. Go to class and do the homework. The tests are straight from the homework.
This man is a great teacher. You will enjoy going to class. He explains material well and is hilarious
This guy is great he'll keep you awake and make you laugh. The night class always got out early and he breezes right through lectures. Take him for accounting!!
he is soooo funny...a little ecentric, but soo funny he will have you dyin laughing at just the way he talks. the tests are great, he gives extra credit, and he is available in his office. he motivates you to learn, and hw isn't mandatory, but he does take roll, so go to class!
Do extra credit. And make sure you study for the test...
He is amazing...wants to make sure that you pass the class!!! He will work with you to mske sure that you get a passing grade. You get one take home exam and he drops the lowest test grade and gives you 25 points worth of extra credit you can do. Homework is not manadatory and he does over it in class. Oh and test are multiple choice..mostly vocab
He is a very nice and interesting person but he isn't the greatest professor... He doesn't explain anything very well in class but if you go to him for a one-on-one explanation of the material he is much better...
He LOVES Accounting. Frequently, he goes off on goofy tangents. But, he knows his stuff. I didn't pass because I was not able to dedicate the time to study properly. His office is always open for students
He is a great guy and a wonderful person. However, he is not a good teacher at all. He can't explain accounting very well even though he is very passionate about it. He needs to switch his teaching style to more group oriented work so students can actually learn. He's a very charismatic guy but we are in school to learn after all so just do the hwk
He's a goofy professor. Reminds me of Eddie Murphy honestly. When he teaches, it's difficult to understand what he's talking about because he goes really fast. Plus, accounting is a boring subject so that's two negatives right there. I don't recommend taking this guy if you want an easy grade. His tests are also difficult.
Its undeniable that Professor Holland is a charming and very nice, likable guy- but, unfortunately, those traits a great professor does not make. His lectures aren't very clear or necessarily relevant to his tests. The content of his tests are also a grab bag- it makes it difficult to know how to focus your studies
He is hard to get used to, but as long as you read the book,a nd do the hw problems you'll be ok. Visit him during office hours and he'll help you out, but I found taht just reading the text and understanding the hw was essential to passing his tests. He has bonus quizzes before the tests, so it helps out a little bit.
He is a nice guy but a very bad teacher for those with no accounting background. He doesnt explain stuff well at all, or teach in general.
He is very energetic and a wonderful person, however, if you need a teacher to show you step by step you might be better taking someone else. I survived because I know how to teach myself. He does allow you to drop lowest test score out of 6. Tests are usually 15 multi-choice questions
Awesome professor. He made the class exciting and fun. If he's just average, why do all his classes fill up in no time? Because he's not. He's the best accounting teacher you could ever want.
There are 4 mandatory tests. The final is optional. The final will replace your lowest test score. Its optional. He is a very funny man, great personality. Its said he doesnt teach the best, but thats not it, it must be realized he can only put so much content in 1 lecture, so additional reading is required. 6 extra credit pts. prior to each test
He is a genuinely nice guy. He was sometimes very amusing, but definitely went off on a lot of (sometimes very boring) tangents. He gives many opportunities for extra credit.
Nice guy, horrible teacher
Great teacher! I got an A but had to study and work for it. I think he is the best option out of all the teachers for 203 or 204. I had the 8am class and he let us out early most of the time. GO TO CLASS! He puts some quizes on blackboard which really help out your grade. Study the text and you'll do fine!
Good teacher....horrible stories and way too freaking manic.
His teaching is subpar and he as a person completely turns me off. I can't take him seriously and have no desire to listen to him. A really nice and goofy guy, but just so utterly ridiculous. By all means take him, but his lax attitude tends to result in students getting lazy. Gives loads of extra points, so to many he's a godsend.
Holland is the most useless professor ever. I wouldn't have minded his manic outbursts if he had actually taught, but he didn't. He spent class going on completely unrelated tangents and when he did actually talk about accounting, he made no sense. I taught myself out of the book and managed a B, but if you want a real teacher, DO NOT take Holland!
He rambles off into his own world, has a horrid southern accent. He isn't good at explaining things.
Good God this class was unbearable. Accounting is just one of those classes that require a lot of patience and a lot of effort. He makes me hate it so much. So freaking much. Don't bother going to class. Read read read the book.
save yourself the stress and take someone else
Good guy, but horrible teacher... Doesn't teach you anything. You have to teach yourself.. Has lots of extra credit but makes lots of mistakes and doesn't offer any curve at all at the end. If you want to pass with a good grade and gain knowledge then take another teacher.
He is a bit ot the handle but you can get a good grade.OUt of all the accounting teacher he is the best.He trys to be funny but he not however he is willing to help you out just ask. Overall a good class.
Decent teacher. Its accounting, you either study, learn and know it or you don't.
He was a waste of time and money. Got a tele-preacher personality, tells a LOT of stories and does not do a lot of teaching. Briefly going through the subject took him about 15 minutes each class, the rest was useless.
Wonderful professor, accounting is hard, but he made it fun. Plan on extra study time for this class but would definately recommend taking him. Truely nice person too. Good option for reference.
Prof Holland is a wonderful teacher. I'm enjoying to go to his class everyday. I'm not really into accounting until I have this class. You have to read the book and do the homework problems to get A in this class. Don't expect an easy ride!! It's college, you have to do the work. Don't blame the teacher for your bad grade.
He SUXS asa teacher....DO NOT TAKE HIM...accounting it my major and I took 2 years of it prior to takin his class and now because of him I have to retake it. He does not teach AT ALL he is the worst teacher I have ever had. He spends all class talking about stuff that will not be on any test and has nothing to do with the subject.
compare to all the other accounting teachers, this teacher is the one to take. lots of extra credit and test are multiple choice (unlike other accounting teacher). test are kind of difficult, but if you study you should be okay with the extra credit. (or just cheat :p)
He was an absolutely horrible professor. I went to see him about a test grade and took me three times to see him, all due to him forgetting about our meeting. He gives homework and then does the homework assignment in class. There is no reviewing it. The examples he gives about how businesses run, are horrible. They do not make sense.
BEST TEACHER I'VE HAD IN COLLEGE SO FAR!!! He is a great guy. He actually wants his students to do well and he keeps class interesting and funny. You will not fall asleep in this class. He is very hilarious in a corny kind of way. But class does require you to study. I got an A easy by doing all the HW and a lil studying.
He's awesome!! He is fun and energetic! He explains the information in a way you understand it, he gives examples! I took Olds last year and I withdrew half way in, he was boring! Holland is a great professor and you'll actually like learning accounting! Tests are easy if you study and do the homework!
Professor Holland has a wonderful personality, but I learned more from reading the book than attending the class. He spends a lot of time reviewing homework and telling stories. His answers to questions are not clear. He is nice energetic guy, but does not do a good job of explaining the material.
I'D TAKE ACCOUNTING FROM HIM AGAIN! Much better than some of the other professors I've had for acct.
I think accounting is really interesting...just not when Holland teaches it.Unless you have 10hour a day to devote to accounting, take another professor. Accounting isn't really easy anyway. I actually did better when I missed class, read the book, and got tutoring! Used the tutors!!! no matter what prof you get, but esp with holland
Does not explain anything well! He speaks to you as if you already know everything. Doesn't test you on anything he actually goes over in class. He'll put similar questions from the HW on the tests but adds outlandish variables that he never told you how to use. Not helpful and makes you feel dumb when asking questions.
Listen, of all the ACC profs, he is the worst, and that's saying something because the, what, 3 or 4 they have at VCU are all terrible. I actually suggest taking ACC elsewhere and transferring the credits over. Acc is bad enough on its own, but when the prof is awful as well, you're looking at repeating the course and thats wasted money.
Holland is wierd at first, and takes forever to finish points. Acct is as hard as you make it If you study you will get an "A" he gives tons of extra credit and drops 1 test if you take the final. I.E. before each test there is a quiz that adds up to 6 points on your test grade.. your final grade is the 5 best grades of the 6 pretty easy huh...
really nice guy, just really hard to follow, this isn't an easy subject, use the online powerpoints & quizzes the book provides, they help a little. the book is horrible at sxplaining, taking acct p.2 @ jsarge and the book they use is much better.
I can't believe so many negative comments on this professor. He is "the" best accounting teacher at VCU. I took him for acct 203-204. I have to say that was the best decision I have ever made. Professor Holland got so much passion for accounting and teaching. Just come to class, do hw, an A is possible. This is college,so do your part!!!
Best acct professor at VCU. I went to class, took notes, but didnt study much and got a B. tests are pretty straight forward, and there is no required homework. Also, online extra credit quiz for each test!!
Hes an awesome person, you can tell he loves what he does, I just did not understand him, he makes tons of hilarious jokes and says really funny things but he goes really fast, do get the workbook/ study guide book you can buy really helped me too. You can use calculator, 5 tests, 100 pt each, extra credit quizzes online b4 each. 1 opt final compre
do homework and you will pass. if you have trouble he is alot of help
Very entertaining. Very easy class. Isn't the best teacher, but more than willing to help if you ask.
EHHH..
Entertaining and energetic guy. Do the homework and attend class and you will do fine. I didn't do the homework and it made studying for the tests a challenge. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. And the final is optional and replaces lowest exam grade.
He can't teach & the powerpoints don't really help. The homework questions do help on the test. He gives a lot of extra credit, which is a bonus. Attendance is not mandatory, but he does pass around a sign-in sheet. Read the book!! Make sure you understand the homework problems!
He's a nice guy but has difficulty staying on topic. He wants to help but the book is a better help. There are extra credit opportunities.
He is amazing. Its my first time accounting but still did good due to the extra credits and test questions somewhat same from quiz and final drops lowest grades.
professor holland is brilliant! He makes ACCT a good laugh. As long as you do the homework and do the practice quizzes you'll be sorted. He's a sweetheart to, he'll help you after class whenever you need it. Easy A as well as far as ACCT goes
Prof. Holland is the kind of professor that will help you as much as he can. I started out failing the 1st 3 tests, but stuck with it, he kept helping me and i eventually passed the class. he wont give up on you if you help yourself. and he's also interested in how you do after you've taken his class, he's genuinely concerned about his students.
Holland has a good personality. And knows about the material. However, he jokes a lot and gets off subject many times which can be pretty annoying. Also make sure you let him know if you are having trouble following his lectures because he does tend to go kind of fast. Read the book and get tutoring if need be. He does extra credit so that's a plus
He is the most hilarious professor I've ever had! He actually makes accounting interesting. He is always willing to help you. Go to class for attendance, study the book, and you'll do fine.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH PROFESSOR HOLLAND! He is a joke. You will learn nothing. If you want to learn accounting by reading the book on your own because the teacher knows less about the subject than you do... Take his class.
It is possible to pass this class, but an A is a monumental achievement. His lectures are not helpful, and answers to homework are not provided for a week after assignment. This makes learning course material infuriating because you must constantly reteach yourself. Tests always have at least 2 trick questions on a 20 question test-no A's
class averages on all three of the first tests were below a 69. He spends one class going over an entire new chapter, then just reviews homework for the rest of the class. 20 question tests were difficult, but not impossible.
If people think acct203 and 204 are hard then they shouldn't even consider going further. The two intermediate accounting classes will destroy them. Holland isn't a great teacher but he does know the material very well (he is a CPA). You will have to do a lot of learning on your own in his class, but the material isn't bad at all. STUDY.
Horrible sense of humor but an overall good teacher. He breaks down the material into pieces that any college student could understand and even when you don't he's willing to review it during his office hours. He tends to toot his own horn more often then warranted but overall he's a good prof. I got an A with a minimal amount of studying!
I failed my first ACCT class at VCU and tried it again with Professor Holland- a complete turnaround. He is very nice and easy to talk to. Do some studying with the powerpoints/book and you'll be fine. Also- ask him to play Destiny's Child's Survivor before the test starts on test day and he'll do it. Inspirational.
Good Professor, From what I understand he is probably the best Accounting professor at VCU. He gives plenty of extra credit. Just make SURE to buy the STUDY GUIDE. Its makes a huge difference. I made 2 70's on his test then i bought the Study Guide and made a 95, 85, and 90 on my next 3 test!
Great Professor!!! Best I've had! Great sense of humor, He actually cares about his students and is very responsive all around a great man!!
Took Holland for both ACCT 203 and 204. He was great at teaching both! I'd def recommend him to everybody! Just make sure you go to class everyday because he takes role which will effect your grade. And he gives a ridiculous amount of extra credit. Almost impossible to not receive an A in his class.
I will start by saying that I got a B in this Class, but it was a struggle to be sure. You will have to study everything at your disposal if you want a good grade in his class, because even if you study the powerpoints and pay attention in class and do your hw, if you only do that you will have a difficult time on his tests. Really Tough Tests
Best Teacher ever!! Very happy man. He gives so much extra credit and is willing to work with you. He is confusing majority of the time so coming to class wasn't very helpful to me. He really wants his students to succeed.
Best teacher for acct period! If you fail this class, it is your fault. He gives out LOADS of extra credit. basically gives the answers to his tests the day before. He's so funny and keeps u awake during class. Just do the work and u will pass. I suck at accounting but I got a B in the class. TAKE HIM IF U WANT TO PASS!!
Hes a nice person. Gives a TON of extra credit but he has to or everyone would fail. If you want to pass, you have to teach yourself. So the book is necessary. You can be an expert at something and not be able to teach it, this is the case here.
Gives extra credit.. Passes a sheet for attendance. Study the homework and should be fine.
Ditto to everyone else - Expect to do most, if not all, of the learning on your own
Very nice guy, but NOT a good professor. He doesn't explain things clearly. This is an accelerated course, so he goes through a chapter is 30 minutes. Everyone in my class is teaching themselves. Again, very nice guy, I'm sure he's a great CPA, but do not take him for 305. Take 303 + 304 if you want to learn, take 305 if you just want to pass.
You need to study by yourself a lot for passing this course, but it is very useful course. He's helpful. I like this course so far compared to other courses taken at VCU. It seems that accounting instructors at VCU get worse and worse very year though.
The material was difficult overall. Also, Holland did not explain concepts very well in class. You have to figure things out on your own outside of class. I learned basically nothing in class. However, he is willing to meet with students. If you want to get a good grade, you have to use all of the resources he suggests (tutoring, learn smart etc.)
The material is a bit difficult, but if you study the textbook and do the hw then you should do fine. Holland frequently gets off topic in class, is NEVER in his office during his office hours even with an appointment, and mostly rushes during lectures. Some questions on his reviews do end up on the exams and his exams are medium difficulty.
Inpatient with student question and never answers questions, doesn't explain problems in depth. You have to self teach and always dismissed class early by at least 1.5 hours though we meet only once a week. Lacks In depth review for test. Short tests where you have to get every question right to get an A or B. Highest grade on last exam was 68.
Does not present information in the clearest way, tests are extremely hard with over half of the class failing the first go around! The tests do not really reflect the homework given to you, and reflect mainly on the vocabulary.
Holland is a classic example of someone who obviously knows what they're talking about but CANNOT convey it to others. The department switched to a new book that he clearly doesn't like, because he complains about it frequently. Does not seem prepared for class and often stumbles over homework problems and lectures during class.
Holland makes a complete waste of the entire class period listening to himself ramble on about nothing, and was then surprised when the class average for the first test was 47%. Worst professor I have ever had. Definitely a subject you have to teach yourself.
His class is boring, and he read straight from the power point which isn't helpful for accounting at all, his teaching techniques have to improve! People are not passing accounting! His test are tough tho! Gives extra credit sometimes, I love how hilarious he is and how kind he is but he confuse me sometimes! But he posts the grades quickly
Professor Holland is hilarious but sometimes it gets really annoying because he constantly goes on a tangent when trying to lecture & it literally has nothing to with accounting. Accounting is already difficult and he doesn't have the best teaching techniques. Tests are also hard, lectures are long and boring because he reads straight from the PP
This professor is awful. You literally have to teach yourself by studying the textbook, because all this guy does in class is ramble about his accomplishments and his life basically nothing that has to do with accounting. His powerpoint are useless. I highly suggest opting for Spindle or Hill. Don't this guy unless you want to struggle or fail.
Overall, good professor. Doesn't lecture very well, you will have to pretty much teach yourself but tests are easy, he gives study guide which are almost exact copies of the test. Gives extra credit assignments, didn't spend much effort to get an A
Go to his office hours, he really likes to know you. He will bump you to an A if you showed effort, lectures and homework didn't help me but the online videos and practice problems did. if you don't like something about the class ask him to do something else and he will. we didn't like that the quizzes were pop so we asked & he announced them instead
I don't recommend this professor if you are not good at anything math related. The material is basic but the teacher is not. He just reads the lecture powerpoints, tries to make jokes, and spends a hour on just on homework (that nobody really does.) He gives extra credit but it is not enough to help your grade out much.
He's a fun teacher, grades pretty easy and is very straight forward about what will be on each test. Don't get overwhelmed by his lecture method which is EXTREMELY high energy and all over the place. It will all make sense in the end. Or at the very least you'll get a good grade...
Holland is one of the funniest professors I've had at VCU. Although his lectures are all over the place and I wouldn't consider him the best accounting prof, his tests are not difficult. He gives lots of EC and typically half the test is exact questions from the study guide. Study hard before exams, do the EC, and you should get an A.
Solid professor! Provides you with all the notes needed to do well in the course. Prior to taking an exam he also offers an extra credit quiz you can do and sometimes light projects as well which are also for extra credit. Some self teaching is necessary because he sometimes steers off topic and starts telling jokes but overall hes a very good prof
Holland is great! If you pay attention to his lectures and the practice quizzes, the test will be easy. He gives simple projects to bring boost grades and extra credit. Sometimes he goes on tangents in the lecture, but it is usually on how he uses acct at work. He is very funny and makes an effort to get to know your name. He used an online book
Easy A as long as you take the short online quizzes before every test and go through his study guides for tests. He gives 4 tests and you are exempt from the final if you have an A in the class before the final.
Really nice guy, knowledgeable in his field. Many people are bothered by his lectures because he often goes off topic, but if you're paying attention to the practice problems and are still struggling, you could go to his office and he would love to help. I smile every single time I have class with Prof. Holland, would definitely recommend.
Holland is knowledgeable in the field but does not know how to teach the material for the life of him. He goes off on tangents and never responds to emails in a timely manner. Of the 5 exams he gave, the first two were insanely hard and the last three were questions straight from study guides. His blackboard is impossible to sort through.
Professor Holland is very knowledgeable about the subject matter. However teaching isn't his strongest suit although, he's a great motivator. He liked to brag about his credentials (which were impressive) and sometimes came off as a bit egotistical. His Blackboard page is a total mess and disorganized. Last three exams were basically the reviews.
Prof. Holland is very charismatic! His lectures can be a bit hard to get through but he does genuinely love his students & makes an effort to know everyone. His test are fair, study the practice problems. He also takes your feedback seriously & adjusts his course if he needs too. Overall, his class is possible to get an A. I also never did the HW!
Professor Holland is truly the definition of unprepared. He spends most of his time trying to get students to laugh than actually teaching the course. Avoid the final at all cost... class average was a 40 if that tells you anything. Responds extremely late to emails and highly unprofessional when he responds. AVOID!
Beyond lucky I am not interested in becoming an accountant. Do NOT take if you expect to learn accounting. An easy A if you go to class and show your face, also study his quizzes and practice test. The same exact questions are asked three times each. I already forget everything he said other than his life story and how he is an elected official.
HE is a nice guy and REALLY funny but you wont learn much. You are going to have to teach yourself.
You honestly won't learn anything in his lectures so you have to teach yourself the material. If you go over the power points, do/review the homework, and read through the textbook you will pass the class though. Tests are like the practice tests/ quizzes, quizzes are online and 1-4 questions or less, and the two projects are super easy too.
Lectures were not helpful or really relevant. The quizzes given before the test are almost verbatim, so they're not hard to pass. Doing all the graded assignments (that don't have a lot of point value but add up) will really help pull your grade up.
Very helpful and professional.
very exuberant and over the top happy at first, but then you realize he doesn't actually teach accounting well. Youre gonna have to do all the studying by yourself because in lectures he takes 5-10 mins to do a problem and he barely knows the correct answer. Very bad emailer and terrible at updating his blackboard but he will help you at office hrs
Really good cares a lot about students read the text and you should pass
He's an extremely nice guy, literally do your work and you'll get an A or high B. Ask lots of questions and his office hours helped me a lot!! Overall he's been one of my favorite professors at vcu and I hope I end up taking another one of his classes soon :)
Professor Holland is a great guy and although his teaching can get confusing sometimes, as long as you ask questions (which he never gets tired of), he'll do whatever he can to make sure you understand. He definitely does his best to make sure everyone gets the grade they want.
Prof Holland is a great man. Super funny and engaging. He wants you to succeed. Accounting 203 was hard for me but he made 204 such a breeze. 4 test, quizzes every week. Study, work hard and you will do well. I'd take him again.
This man is a gem. I had him first thing in the morning. Its so nice to have someone so happy and positive to start the day. He is always there if you need help. I would definitely take his class again and any other classes he teaches. Just listen to his lectures, do the homework, and take notes from the powerpoints and you should get an A or B.
never attended his lectures bc all he does is go over hw/quizzes, but his class is super easy and def recommend him if you are just trying to get through accounting 204! the only thing I really disliked about him is that he changed due date times around all the time, one day the due date for hw was at 3:30 and another day it was due at 11:50pm?
Holland is one of the nicest professors I have ever had, he genuinely cares about us understanding the information and doesn't get mad when we ask questions. Overall accounting can be pretty difficult and since we were online it was even harder but he tried his best and I respect him for that.
I never showed up to zoom meetings and still got an A. I was fine with this class because I'm pretty good at teaching myself (which I chose to do because I never joined zoom lectures). I did show up the first couple lectures and he did seem to be teaching. The amount of work is definitely doable. It's also a pretty fair weighted grading system.
3 assignments weekly; homework, smartbook, quiz. On test weeks you only have that so it is a nice break between material. No mandatory cumulative test but it is optional. Prof is a very down to earth oldhead but the good kind. Zooms are nice if you wanna follow along but he recorded them for us.
Professor Holland is by far the nicest teacher I have had so far. I missed a lot of the homework and I'm still finishing with an A. As long as you stay consistent and don't miss more than like 6 homework you'll be fine. The test relates very close to the homework and quizzes. The final is optional. He is just a great down-to-earth guy.
Super kind, very easy-going professor and overall course. Three assignments due about every week and he even does the homework in class so you only have to do one assignment on your own, then the chapter quiz. I recommend taking this class if you want a course you don't need to pour too much attention into.
Great professor, loved every minute of his class. Took him online due to COVID but I'm sure he's a great professor in person too. His 3/5 rating doesn't do him justice. This man is a 5/5 professor and the class is a 2/5 difficulty if you do the work. If you don't do the work then its a 5/5 difficulty class.
I took his class and felt like the lectures were not too long and were very helpful. There is homework and quizzes every week which I like so that I keep the stuff fresh in my mind. Tests were pretty simple and his quizzes are also pretty easy. Overall great professor who is professional and nice at the same time.
You just have to do the learning objectives & tests which are 20% each. My main issue with this class was that the lectures weren't very informative & that he made me uncomfortable. He would go out of his way to talk to me for a long time and ask some off-putting questions. I would recommend sitting in the back of his class to avoid this.
One of the best accounting teachers I had. I really learned a lot in his class, all of the were given online. The homework and quizzes really correlated with the tests. He was always happy to go over the homework individually and he goes over it in class. The only way you could fail his class is by bit doing any assignments.
Learning objectives are a big part of your grade. Go to lecture, Holland is funny and cares about his students. His lectures explained everything you need for the test. The tests are take home tests that are mostly covering the vocab of the unit as well as stuff he highlights during lecture. Great professor definitely would take again.
A severely underrated teacher. He's very caring and understanding and always happy to talk and joke with students. My only gripe is that he often hyperfocuses on a single person/few people whenever joking to get a smile out of them, though done with good intention. Engage with the lectures and ask questions, and you'll have a fantastic time.
I honestly didn't attend too many lectures because attendance wasn't mandatory, but whenever I did go it was a good time because he was just a nice, charming guy! Funny too, in a silly way. The whole textbook is online and its easy to get a good grade with the way assignments are set up.
One of the sweetest teachers I've ever met. His class is also pretty easy, he goes through the homework before it's due and it's so helpful. The tests are either online or in person, and are pretty straightforward. Overall- best teacher at VCU.
Professor Holland is a gem - his class is straightforward if you stay on top of the work. Homework, smartbook, and quizzes keep you engaged, and tests are fair. Recorded Zoom lectures help for studying. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for exam prep too.
Everything is online but he does NOT teach anything. You just learn from video modules. The course is easy as long as you turn everything in on time. Even though the syllabus says you can turn some things in late for a penalty, he will not reopen anything for you and will probably ignore you.
