He's not really as bad as most people would have you think. If you are willing to put in the work you get a good grade without any trouble. =)
This teacher is just awful!! Mean and grumpy, and cares for no one.Makes you memorize a ton of stuff, he says you'll be tested on, then test you on different things you've never learned! Stay away for this guy!!!
Do not take this professor for any course. He is nasty, unpleasant and can be downright mean at times. In addition to the fact that he is not a very good teacher. I hardly learned anything from him at all...what a waste of money.

Not helpful, very unclear. But if you study every chapter and don't slack and also doing the objective questions in the book before every chapter, it helps. Don't depend on him to teach you!
He really knows his stuff, unfortunately he doesn't always want to share the knowledge. You *have* to ask questions and his lab quizes/practicles are a nightmare, but he gives extra credit for attendence. You will learn or fail.
This is not a teacher, but a waste of space. Better off buying the book teach yourself page from page. Then come in and take the test. Don't smile or he'll bark at you!!! Horwitz- find another career!
HINT I got an A in his anatomy lecture. I discovered early on use text book for reference only, and concentrate mainly on his power point notes. Don't miss a class!!!!!!!!!
Give the guy a break he did lose a child in a bad car accident. Bellieve me some students do not make it easy to teach a class it is not always the professor.

He knows a lot, but unfortunately he is lack of strategies to teach at students' level. He needs to find something else to do instead of wasting people's time and takes up space from a good teacher. He needs to go back to his planet.
This instructor has issues. Very unwilling to help and makes you feel stupid or better yet dumb. Stay away from this professor.

Going to class is a really big waste of time. The only way to pass this class is to read the whole book yourself. Highly don't recommend.
If you are planning to go for any science program do not expect to learn any physiology. It will be better to teach yourself out the book. HORRIBLE PROFESSOR

Horwitz is a nice guy.He knows what he is talking about,but He doesn't know how to teach.He goes over the information extremely fast(there is ton of information)If you want to get an A,plan to study for hours every day for this 1 credit class.Even with studing the chance of passing is slim. l

Smartest guy I ever met, but shouldnt be teaching at a community college. He teaches at a graduate level,and thats far from where anyone is that is taking his class. DONT MISS A CLASS if you do take him. He teaches too much in a day that no textbook will help you catch up. He is a nice guy, but expects way too much at a beg. level.

I took this because I'm thinking of changing careers. I have a PhD so I've seen a lot of teachers. On the 1st day he said only 40% of the class would pass; his poor teaching ability explains why. Reads off the slides; nothing is explained and class is always let go very early. I don't mind staying longer - teach me! I dropped the course.

DONT TAKE HIS CLASS! On the 1st day of school, didnt even introduce himself to the class! He passes very few students. He missed many classes and expressed too much his beliefs on evolution and abortion. Even made a girl cry. I didnt learn anything. VERY confusing teacher. Take Mrs Monroe
I have taken two classes with him and have gotten As in both. This is college you morons! You do have to have an IQ greater than an eggplant to pass.Quit whining and get used to it!

He is very easy. Part of his test is take home and its worth 40 points so you only have to get another 40 to get a "B" notes all day. He drops your lowest grade and if you close to a "b" or 'A" he will give it 2 u. He is a really good teacher. I had a "B" u have to be dumb to fail dat man class.

This is the worst teacher I have ever had. I want to warn anyone who is interested in his lab for Bio 2. The majority of the class failed and he is ok with that. He quizes every class and the practicles are insane. DON'T TAKE HIM!!!
He's pretty cool, but I found the class itself to be pretty boring most of the time.
He is not as bas as everyone says. just follow his instructions and study what he tells you to. its a lot of material, but as long as you put enough work in the class you will get a lot back in return. Its not easy though.
This teacher is extremely difficult. The only way to pass his class is to read the text, his notes are seldomly reflected on the test. He is ok with everyone doing horrible on his test.
NEVER EVER EVER take this guy. i swear he's one of those teachers that is out to screw students up. 99% of the class WILL fail his class. His tests are extremely hard. His notes are worthless, he moves through the power point notes so fast that you dont have time to copy anything. you pretty much have to read the whole book yourself. Waste of money
hes really not as bad as people make him out to be...he gives u credit for taking online quizzes and it doesnt even matter what you get on them...only problem i had was taking notes in class, i finally gave up and just highlighted everything in my text bc thats where notes are taken from.
He is a great professor.Both in lecture and lab..he will answer ur questions but you cant say hes not helpful if you dont go to him. you have to study but you gotta do that for every class so i dont know why people complain. he does quiz u every week in lab..its an advantage because you know the stuff by the time u take the practical. read ur book

He is a great professor, you have to study and you have to work. He does his part and you must do your inorder to pass. As you read he drops the 2lowest quizes and has extra credit in his labs in lecture you drop the lowest test score of 6 tests. Just use the book for lecture to your advantage! Google pics for his lab it is helpful!
got a B in the class and i studied only 2 hours before the test for every test. i was focusing on lab the whole summer semester. to pass the tests just make sure you read the chapter reviews at the end of each chapter, and study the quizes. drops the lowest test score and lots of extra credit. if he sees you trying he will bump your final grade up
Lets face it guys.James Horwitz is one tough teacher. Yes hes fair, but he teaches on a med-school/masters level.Very difficult and requires many hours of self-study if you want an A in the lecture.The lab is incredibly hard! Horrible Horwitz! This man makes anatomy and physiology worst then it should be! Sitting through his horrible lectures makes you go crazy. His notes are useless and you will never be prepared for his test no matter how much you’ve studied.
Interesting, but kind of a jerk. Also every class he seemed to contradict himself. I wouldn't recommend him at all.
He is a very smart man and while his lectures tend to be on the long side and can be boring...he does know what he is talking about and usually throws in some interesting information...gives so much extra credit it's hard to see how someone wouldn't get an A in the class...read the Ch. before the exam and make sure to do all of his E.C. handouts!
Don't believe everything you read. Prof Horwitz is a great prof. Yes he is tough, but I will say this; when you complete his class you will know everything about anatomy and physiology. If you don't, you DIDN'T read. This is not elem. school folks. If you plan to go into the Med. field there's no room for error. I took him for AP I & II and got A.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE! THis teacher can be defined in one word, HORRIBLE. If you are taking anatomy for your major, DONT take his class, makes it 100 x harder and will not help you at all. He is not helpful. He makes the class very hard and not easy to understand. His tests are tough. I did not past any test with him.
He can be pretentious at times but I respect him for his vast knowledge. Someday I hope to be that intelligent. I got a B in that class and it was the hardest B I've ever earned in my life. I don't feel bad for the people that drop out hoping to get an easier professor next time, many of them were the ones that weren't very bright anyways.
Hey people, this is college! If you are looking for an easy A, you aren't going to get it in his class. You actually have to study...imagine that! He isn't the most people oriented person in the world, but he tells you what he expects and gives you tons of extra credit! How can you fail? Those of you who have brains will be fine!

I took him for bsc2085 and now taking him for bsc2086. He's tough and the tests are hard but, hey your in college now! Open your book and study!! He gives out extra credit that are added to your test grades. If you want to get an A or B you must study study study!!! If your a slacker don't take this class!
Horrible Horrible Horibble! He is by far the worst "professor" (if you can even call him that) that I have ever had. PBCC needs to get a new one. He does not teach. Don't dare be a second late you he will make a scene about it. He really is a joke and does not know how to teach what so ever. I was an A and B student untill this class.
I'm amazed at how many people think he is difficult. He gives you plenty of opportunity to buffer your test scores with take home tests that basically add 20 points to every test score, online quizzes you can retake until you get 100 and case studies that reinforce the material. If anyone cannot do well in his class it's due to a lack of effort.
I have taken bsc2085 and bsc1011 + lab with horwitz. I like his sick sense of humor and I think he makes the class interesting. If you study you will do well. He also gives tons of extra credit.
He is so vague, his notes are helpless.its better taking him for lecture but def. not for the lab. He will thoroughly confuse u, either struggle or Dont take him!
The class averages on tests are between the 40's and the 60's after 10 points extra credit has been tacked on.I don't know how anyone can enjoy this class.Studying for his tests feels like a waste of time, because I have no idea where he gets his questions from.He goes way too fast to take notes. Take this class if you want to feel like a failure.
If you want to feel like a failure all semester take this class. Some how if you do horrible on all the tests, but do the other assignments you pass the class. I would never advise anyone to take his class. He doesn't post anyone of his Powerpoints and makes it IMPOSSIBLE to take notes.

lol, this class isn't bad. I've probably spent maybe 2-3 hrs on studying tops, which isn't much for the content covered. However, you have to go to class! He has a habit of repeating things that WILL be on the test. The exam were also general, nothing tricky. Lab was good,he gives alot of E.C. He knows his stuff, just lil intimidating but will help
Before taking this class, I read all the horror stories on this site and still decided to take this professor. Keep in mind I havn't had BSC 2085 since the year of 2002. I got an A in this class. Show up to lecture and read your textbook and you will do fine. If you have poor study habits and want a grade given to you with no effort, do not take!
He was a pretty hard teacher, but he taught me a lot. He has a crude sense of humor, but it is pretty funny. He does care, despite what people think. He really likes to see you put the effort in. He does help you where he can, drops the lowest score, lots of extra credit and raises your score to a A or B if you're almost there. I got a B.
Not the easiest class in the world but Horwitz is fair and tries to help you. Test are all multiple choice with a take home written response that he usually gives the answer to or at least where to find it. He drops the lowest test score and if you are boarderline a/b he'll give you extra points if he see you making an effort.
Had him for class and lab. each lab you would copy down list of protozoans etc. to be quizzed on the next lab. He cared more about format than if you knew the material. If you didn't underline one thing and not another he would give no credit even when correct. majority of class failed. I stopped bothering to attend it was so bad.
class is challenging, hardest part is that you are on your own when it comes to tests, he doesnt give you a study guide so you basically need to know all the material.He gives a take-home part of the exam which improves your grade by a lot. Overall he is not bad, he's loud so you hear everything, he also kinda funny.
Horwitz's class is not for the lazy...he does not give out study guides for the tests so you will have to basically know all the material for the if you want a good grade.He also gives you a take home which improves your test grades a lot,he is loud and easy to understand.I recommend this class only to those who are serious and want to learn.
AVOID!! I'm an A student, my first test was in the high 70's while most students got 30's and 40's. Second test in the low 60's. No use studying because his test questions are so random. No reviews. You would need to know every vocabulary word in the textbook and memorize every sentence to just pass if you can figure out his tricky wording.
Recommended if you are someone who can put the time in; reading is very important because he goes through slides very fast. If you don't have a voice recorder, get one and record his class! Final exam is NOT cumulative, allows you to look at your notes/ book for five minutes during tests. Easy if you take class seriously.
His tests are devilishly difficult, as he gives NO indication of what they include, the subject being vast and complex. Even test terms may differ from those in text. One class test average was 58%. I studied the Saladin text and got the A. Also he added generous points at the end of term. That aside, a clear speaker, lecture not esp. helpful.
IDK if teacher makes difference cause material is very tough. He mostly lectures, not too engaging. Does stress important things during lectures, gives easy take home parts for test. Takes test questions from practice exams. I didn't think he was too bad, the material more then anything was the hard part. I took it in summer and it was brutal.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Only two of us got an A in his class. I read book and study like crazy. I only took AP2 that semester and I was still busy.Take Breaker, Garcia, or who ever else you can find.
His class isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I got an A in his class over the summer. With the online test scores and his take-home tests, they should help your grade A LOT. His lectures are somewhat interesting and are applicable to a portion of his tests, but you should read the book if you want to do well on his tests.

Took him for bio 2 lecture & lab. Pay attention to the lectures to know what material is on the tests but study the book on the material covered, know everything. He gives a take home question every test which helps, and if you attend and put in the effort you will be fine, I got an A. It's just a tough subject, no easy A's
He is very smart. He teaches anyone that wants to learn; it is up to the student to study hard. He is very hard and his test and quizzes are super hard. The online quizzes and clinical cases are no joke! they help you out, and allow you to pass. If you take this class, STUDYY HARDDD!!! But i guarentee you will leave knowing a lot!
Incredibly intelligent teacher, has a lot to offer to a student. Difficult at times, but if you put in enough time and effort you will pass. I don't regret taking his class, and I recommend him if you're majoring in biology.

This professor seems to be hard, but if you study, take notes, and review the pictures that he send you u will be fine. Study hard! Phylums, classes etc. take pictures of what you see in every lab because it is the same thing that appears on the midterm and final :)
He goes on and on about the littlest details on his powerpoints and none of it pertains to the tests. He has a crude taste in humor, and never answered any questions. If you want to pass read the text. I got an A in the class but it came with little sleep and lots of tears and hardwork. If you're taking him makes lots of notecards and read the text
Extremely rude professor, and isn't the most helpful. Horowitz is very smart and knows the materials inside and out, but his method of teaching is hard to follow. I finished the class with a B, but would not recomend him for anyone who is unwilling to study/ learn a lot of their own.
Horwitz has honestly been my favorite professor! I took him for Summer B (6 weeks) lab & lecture and received A's. This subject itself is quite challenging, but if you enjoy A&P, you should be fine. Horwitz is very straight foward and will MAKE you think. He has great lectures; I absolutely recommend him to everyone. Make sure to use the textbook.
This professor was ok. His class is very hard to pass though. He lectures from powerpoints which doesnt really help. He doesnt give any clue on what will be on the test so i suggest you study everything. I recieved a "C" in this class b/c he dropped the lowest test score. I also suggest doing the clinical cases & pre/post test it will help you lots
took him for both lab and lecture. please believe the all comments about him. he has very hard test and doesn't let you know whats on it, but he does care and will help you if something doesn't makes since. I was able to pass with an A

This class by far is the most terrible and biggest mistake of my life. He would "teach" for 10 mins, tell stories about his family for 30 mins and let you figure out everything at home. If you don't have time after class to teach yourself all over again then it's definitely not for you. I spent 5+ hours on YouTube to prepare for my midterm :(
Professor Horwitz mainly lectures in class but flips through slides so quickly that its almost impossible to take notes. The tests are difficult even if you study from the textbook meticulously. He's not very helpful even during office hours. The class environment is stressful and does not encourage participation or questions.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. I made the mistake of not checking rate my professor before I signed up for this class and I regret it. HE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR. I only passed this class with an "A" since I took AP biology in high school. Let me put this in perspective for you: 35 kids in class and only 5 passed ( and I'm talking C or above). DON'T TAKE.

He is a though grader, and goes through the material quick. Quizzes are hard, literally seconds per slide and your required to recall the organisms immediately, spelling will cost you aswell. But if you study, pay attention and record his lectures you'll be fine! I enjoyed class, but I love science. If your dedicated I recommend him.
This professor is honestly one of the worst teachers I have ever had, he goes through material wayyyy too quickly and is not helpful nor patient when students ask questions. I took him the first time I took Anatomy and he truly made me feel discouraged to continue in the health science field. WOULD NOT RECCOMEND.
