I really enjoyed this class and learned a lot... His class actually helped me to decided that family studies is what I wanted to major in... He's a really sweet and funny too :)
jim is awesome i had him summer session and i loved the class. i dont think i would have done as well as i did if it wasnt for him

This guy is badass. He's kind of a ham but he's brilliant. He'll talk about something and then act it out. EX: Adolescent behavior; he'll act like a 13 yr old girl and make the class crack up. Yough exams, lots of info, very interesting, you'll never be bored. Don't let him recognize you from the fake ID he took from you (He's also a bouncer).
Hunt makes the class interesting but his lectures do not prepare you for his tests
Very interesting lectures. He keeps you entertained. Just remember to study for the class too. He doesn't say exactly what's on a test, so just be sure to cover everything just in case.
Hunt is a great teacher who really cares about his students. His class is not very hard but it does require some work. As long as you take the time you will do well in his class. He is a really great teacher.
I took Jim for three FSHD courses over the past 3 semesters. Two on site, one online. JIm is one of the best professors at the UofA. His exams are somewhat difficult but if you attend class and do the assignments well, you'll still get a good grade for the course
He might be a great guy or great teacher, but I only had him for an online class, and it was terrible!! Much of the stuff was unclear or graded strangely, and trying to communicate with him by e-mail or d2L chat was ridiculous. I felt like he never actually read my e-mails, and what should have taken 1 e-mail to clear up would take 10. frustrating!
Jim has a heart of GOLD. He does what a teacher should do, teach the book. His in class interactivity means it is never a boring class. His tests are from the book. It was an easy class because there were no tricks. If you ever get an opportunity to take one of his classes, do it. He is a manly man and that is kind of refreshing these days.
Jim is a sincere person who is dedicated to the students learning. He teaches from the book and his inclass examples are entertaining. You won't fall asleep or be blindsided on test day. The inclass presentations follow the book and power points just like they should. If youu take Jim's class just let him know you want an A and then work to get it.
Jim is a nice guy. I liked the class.
He is the poor mans James Bond. He finished school early, scored big with the chicks, 158MPH on his MC, raced porsche, bounces, martial arts, football related career, 167 IQ, friend to all threat to nuns. He is a standup guy that would help you hid the body and tell your wife it was all his fault. Clint Eastwood has got nothing on him. Viva la Jim.
Jim is the best teacher I have had at University of Arizona so far. I had him for 117 and 323. He is a really dedicated teacher who really loves teaching and caring about his students. His tests can be tricky but not too bad. Right now is a great time to take him for 323 because he has a new baby now and loves giving examples about her!
He's a cool professor. Seems "tough" at first but lets down his guard quick. Once you know his teaching style his class is a breeze. SO easy. I took 117 & 237 so far and will probably take more. I learned a lot and will retain it because his class sticks to the basics, teaching information well. He's a good guy who's worked hard to teach, enjoy.
Easy class. Very knowledgeable teacher. You will definitely learn a lot. Also loved when he went on tangents with stories that would help cement the concepts learned in class. Would recommend this teacher and this class to anyone.
I was in Jim's class for 3 seperate courses. He is personable, knowledgable and keeps the students interested. He is a particularly unique teacher because he has vast knowledge for multiple subjects. Courses are easy, do not necesarily need to buy the books but they help, information is clear and the exams are not too difficult.
fshd 117 is an interesting course and jim is the perfect professor for it. he knows the material well and presents it in a learnable way. he uses lots of examples so it's easy to remember when test-time roles around. as long as you take notes and study an hour or two for the exams, you can earn an A. he is always at office hours and happy to help.
Excellent professor. He really knows what he is talking about and is an interesting professor to listen to (funny). Tests are not too hard as long as you study. I can't wait to take another class with Dr. Hunt. I really enjoyed this class.
He is a bouncer for Wild West on the weekends, and obsessively reminds everyone how he went to Stanford for undergrad...da da da...very full of himself
He is a pretty cool teacher, the course is not bad either. Make sure you read the syllabus because if you ask a question that is on it, you will frustrate him. Take it online as long as you have a good enough memory to remember when to attend chat sessions. Easy A.
Oh James, well he gets pretty annoyed when people ask him questions about the course, so make sure you READ the syllabus. Other than that, easy class online, do the extra credit and don't wait until the last minute to do the papers. Attend the chats and do the discussions and you should get an A.
This was a pretty easy online class to follow. Weekly discussion and chats, 3 quizzes and 3 papers. He also allows extra credit. Easy class as long as you keep up with the material. Buy your book on amazon, it's way cheaper than buying it from the bookstore.
I took this class online. It was extremely easy. Besides the three papers you must do the three quizzes and attend weekly chats and completely weekly discussions. I pretty must only spent one day each week for this class. Keep up with the work and don't fall behind. Easy easy class!
Easy class. Random discussion points throughout semester, so make sure you go to class. Tests are harder than they should be for this level of class, but if you study and ready the book you should do okay. The topics are really boring though. Hard to sit through class sometimes.
Jim is a good guy and cares about his students. Attend class and do the extra credit! The tests are straight from lecture and the textbook isn't really needed.
I have a lot respect for Jim and how he carries himself and how fair he is to students. Tests are straightforward and so are the papers. Attend class and do the writings and extra credit and you will be fine.
The tests are a little bit more difficult then FSHD 117, but are not too tough. Jim is a great professor and is very helpful and clear. He makes sure you'll learn a lot.
Go to class and do assignments, you will do well in the class. He makes topics easy to understand and easy to relate to. Tests aren't hard if you go to class.
Fairly easy class if you aren't lazy to do the work. I took it online so attendance was mandatory (online chat sessions). He is a down to earth professor. Do all the homework, exams, and extra credit and you should be fine.
He is such an amazing teacher, he is willing to help you with anything you ask. He makes lectures fun because he is always cracking jokes. If you go to class and do all the homework you will easily pass this class.
Dr. Hunt is a great teacher, but his slides are boring. There's no color or pictures, just black and white. I'm a very visual learner so I hate that. But his class is very interesting and he LOVES to teach it. He's very helpful outside of class.
Love this teacher. I have taken him for 3 different fshd classes. Hes very down to earth and will help you in anyway at anytime. He actually cares about his students and hes very smart. Take all his classes.
Dr. Hunt was a great teacher for this course. He was very personable, easy to talk to and gave many opportunities for you to succeed. You can get lots of points for attending lecture and he is very relaxed about letting you make up the points if you tell him you will be absent. If you do well on the first 3 tests you will not have to take the final
I took the Honor's section and it is an easy Honors credit if you need one. It was an easy class and Dr. Hunt is very easy to talk to. He has personal stories for everything which made the class much more interesting!
Dr. Hunt is an amazing professor, completely relatable. He has a personal example for everything and it really helps you remember the material and concepts. You will get an "A" if you do the work and pay attention... if you're lost he is super helpful during office hours. I recommend the class!
I took this online over the winter and it was really easy. Hunt is AWESOME and extremely helpful! I heard he's just as good in person for lecture. Take it if you want a pretty easy and interesting class :) I took this and then PSY150 in the Spring and they're VERY similar.
I've had Dr. Hunt for 3 classes throughout my 4 years at UA and I loved every class. He's my favorite professor. He's interesting and funny and uses relevant examples from his own life. He's really cool and upfront about what he expects from his students. Also, if you go see him during office hours, he's incredibly helpful. Take all of his classes!
Hunt is an amazing professor. Show up, read the textbook, and do the study guides that he provides and you are going to pass. Attendance is mandatory, and the final is optional. Three easy papers, no written homework, and 3 multiple choice exams (not including the final).
When I started class with Jim this semester, I did not think I was going to like him. He starts off very intimidating, but you quickly learn that Jim is passionate about being an educator and TRULY cares about his students and their success. His relevant life examples make him both relatable and effective in educating.
He is my favorite professor at UA so far! I wish he could teach every FSHD course. I think what made it so interesting is that he accompanies his power points with personal experience and videos. He makes what you learn really interesting. Do the study guide for exams and you'll do great. I didn't even have to take the final! Loved him!
Absolute Great teacher. Would highly recommend.
Dr Hunt is an amazing professor! He's truly an inspiration and very passionate about the subject. If you pay attention in class and put effort into the few assignments you will be just fine.
"Jim" is a great professor. He is strict on most things but he is very much in love with what he does. Jim is helpful and tough on grading. He helps you understand the course work thoroughly and is always available to the students. In office hours he is beyond helpful and considerate. During lectures he has everyone participate and he is funny.
James Hunt is probably my favorite professor I have had at the UA. He really loves what he teaches and that reflects in class. There is group discussions throughout the semester which count as attendance points and the exams are really easy if you do the study guide! 4 tests including the final and one is dropped! 3 easy papers as well
DR. James Hunt is an amazing professor, probably one of the best professor I have ever had. His lectures are interesting and talks about his personal life (which is great). He's hilarious but yet can be very strict. 4 exams but you can drop the lowest grade, gives out study guides which is AWESOME cause helpful!
My very first professor at the University of Arizona and, let me tell you, it was an Easy A. Just go to class and read. The papers are not hard. If you love the material then you will love the class.
Jim is passionate about FSHD and gives great lectures. There are group discussions in class for credit, otherwise class is not mandatory. Discussion posts are due online every week, but only 3 short papers and 3 tests in the class. Optional final since lowest test score gets dropped. Go to his office hours!
When given the chance to submit papers early do so! It is helpful and can help you do much better on them. Read the text book and go to class and you will pass.
This class was one of my favorite classes all year. You will do well if you go to class and pay attention to what he says. It is easy to pay attention because the material is super interesting and he is not a boring lecture leader. Study, pay attention, and communicate with him and it will be a good class!
Jim is definitely one of my favorite professors. His lectures are very easy to follow and he tells personal stories that relate to the course to help students remember certain things. I really wish Jim taught more FSHD courses!!
Jim is honestly one of the best teachers that I have ever had. I took his Intro to Family Studies class and he made me actually enjoy the topic and want to come to class. There are a few papers and discussion posts, but he gives excellent feedback. Even though he looks intimidating he's really cool and always has candy on his desk in his office.
Dr. Hunt is hands down the best professor I have had so far. He makes FSHD so interesting and includes personal stories and life events that relate to the class and makes it extra helpful to remember. Go to office hours, he is a great guy and I have learned so much from him. Jim made me realize that FSHD really is for me. Gonna miss his class.
Easiest thing ever! Best teacher at the university hands down. Class meets 1 day a week , rest online. He is very understanding and willing to work with you. Pretty chill dude!
He was the best Family Studies professor. He is super funny and really understanding when you communicate with him. He can be tough, but not if you know whats going on and are paying attention. His exams are applicable so dont expect definitional items. I would take him again!
Jim is such a great professor. He really is passionate about this class. Attendance is not technically mandatory but he has 10 random group days where he does take attendance. He is very accessible in office hours and always replies to emails quickly. He is not a hard grader and there's only 3 short papers, a discussion every week. Highly recommend
Hunt is there for YOU! He is such a great professor and wants the best for you. His office hours are the best and he really explains everything. For the textbook you do have to buy because of the quizzes. Overall, just try and you will do well.
I am currently in the middle of taking FSHD117 and I just had to come give Dr. Hunt some kudos. He is very passionate about the subject, fills lectures with tons of entertaining anecdotes, and truly cares about his students. I have to say that I really enjoy this class and he is a great professor.
James is the best professor ever! He is so passionate about the topics which make the lectures enjoyable! The papers were graded a bit difficult and tests were a little hard but just attend office hours and you will finish with a good grade!
Professor Hunt is such an amazing professor. He really cares about his students and makes sure he is doing everything he can to make sure you understand the information. Quiz answers are online, show up to class for group discussions, text discussions are relatively easy, exams aren't that hard if you truly pay attention in class and study.
Although this class is one of the more boring ones in FSHD, Dr. Hunt makes it really enjoyable. The content itself isn't hard to understand, it just requires a little application as there are a lot of theories and stuff. There is a decent amount of work but none of it is difficult, it helps you to keep engaged throughout the week.
He is a really great professor! I just picked up my FSHD minor and I strongly believe he helped me really love it. He loves to make jokes in class too. With the COVID situation, he was very understanding and I think that shows a lot about how he views his students. The lectures may be long, but this class is very doable (thanks to him).
Jim is awesome! He made me excited for the rest of my FSHD minor. Human development can be boring and the lectures a tad long, but he keeps it interesting and relevant. Also handled the COVID transition incredibly well! No attendance, but random group discussions that are counted, or online chats post-covid. You don't NEED to read but it helps :)
Prof. Hunt is very caring and passionate about everything he lectures about. But, during the pandemic I think he gave us a lot of busy work. I felt more stressed about this class than my 400-level classes as a junior. I think it is easy to pass if you really keep on top of things, but expect to work for it.
Jim is a great professor. Even though the course is a bit dull, he makes it really interesting. Be prepared for two weekly quizzes and a weekly discussion board. You have to read the whole chapter each week. There is required group work at least once a week, and three easy papers. You get to choose your honors project on whatever you want.
James is an awesome professor and I learned a lot during this course. A normal week in this class had 2 quizzes and 1 discussion. Group work was random, easy, and announced during lecture. He posts recordings, notes, and separate vid
I absolutely love Dr Hunt. He is by far the best professor I have ever had. He is a wonderful human being and really cares about all of his students. He really wants you to succeed and is always available if you need him, for anything. He is spectacular :)
very cool teacher, always entertaining and engaging.
great professor. I had a rough semester so I slacked a in his class & still learned a lot & passed. you HAVE to stay on top of discussions & quizzes though. that's definitely what set me back. he's a tough grader. he skimps out on points for small things but there's only 2 short papers and 1 project so it's fine. overall a very interesting class.
Its obvious that Dr. Hunt is passionate about his field of study and cares deeply for his students. This workload in this class is definitely easy to manage; there are two short quizzes per week, two papers for the semester, and one project for the semester. I really enjoyed taking this class and have loved having Dr. Hunt as a professor!
The best professor I have ever had. He really cares about the subject matter and makes it easy to learn. You have to read to be able to do the weekly reading quizzes & ther is another chapter quiz and discussio board due at the end of each week. If you stay caught up, do the readings, and pay attention in class discussions and quizzes should b easy
I could not recommend a teacher more. The best! There is a discussion post and two quizzes per week, NO EXAMS. (there is an OPTIONAL final). He is a great professor and you do learn a lot from him!
I did well but sometimes was disturbed by the personal information that Jim mentioned in his lectures. He told the class that he believes his daughter is gay and told a story about her first period. Also tell us strange stories about his own life. I'd honestly prefer if we kept to the material because I was uncomfortable at least once every class.
Jim is a good professor that makes the material interesting. His lectures are fun, and his comments makes them engaging, even though sometimes he can't really read the room. There is a lot of work for this class every week, but getting into a habit helps manage it. There are no exams, just 3 projects that are semi-difficult. Don't be intimidated.
Dr. Hunt is an all around awesome guy. He made Family Studies so fun to learn about and his class was not difficult if you participated and did what was asked. His lectures are not typical, boring lectures, they are very interactive. I would definitely take another class from him.
Dr. Hunt is a great professor! I wish that he taught more classes so I could take him again! There were 2 weekly quizzes, weekly discussion boards with a reply, and 3 projects. NO EXAMS!! This class was very interactive and you could tell that he really cares about his students!
Professor Hunt is great! Few extra credit opportunities but you shouldn't need them, class is easy to pass as long as you turn in your work. There are also no exams just quizzes. The Final is optional!
Dr. Hunt has probably been my least favorite professor. He is passive-aggressive on emails, he has an extremely strict late work/quiz policy, he would share inappropriate information about his adolescent daughter and he is forceful of his ideas. Get ready for long lectures, sometimes boring, lots of group discussion and a load of textbook reading.
One of my favorite professors Ive ever had. His lectures are interesting and entertaining. I looked forward to his class everyday. The work was overall pretty easy. Only complaint I have is sometimes it is unclear about why you received the grade you did on assignments.
Dr. Hunt's class was great! Don't listen to the other negative comments, he was very accessible outside of class and was understanding that life happens. We had weekly quizzes, discussion posts, and 3 papers. The papers can be graded a little harsh, however, if you submit at least 5 days before the due date, he provides feedback!
I have mixed feelings. The class can be fun because there is a lot of group discussions, but some of the things Hunt talks about is beyond uncomfortable- he shares very personal details about his daughter like her pubic hair and her sexuality. The work isn't too difficult but he takes off points for very small things
Very weird/finicky grading, sometimes loosing points for requirements that weren't even in the instructions. A few quizzes, group work, and discussions are dropped. The papers have different options to choose from, which was nice. But overall didn't love this class or professor.
Professor Hunt kept the lectures entertaining and educational. He was easy to reach outside of class and gave great feedback on assignments. As long as you attend class you should get an A. His material is very interesting and he's very personable. Best professor I have had in a long time! Highly recommend
One of the best professors I have had during my time at the U of A so far. I am a current junior and absolutely love Dr. Hunt. He is kind, extremely engaging uses great examples that are relatable to all, and is an AWESOME teacher and person. I highly recommend taking his course. He has the personality of a teddy bear.
Dr. Hunt is the most genuine professor I have ever met. He truly cares about his students and his office hours are open for questions or if you need a talk. Each week there are two quizzes and a discussion post due, but nothing too crazy. It is very manageable and a very interesting class. If you make an effort to be there, he will notice!
Wonderful professor and class experience. I always felt really comfortable sharing in class and Dr. Hunt always makes a point to be available outside of lecture if we need help at all, or if we ever need someone to talk to. If you do the reading then the quizzes are easy. Lectures are fascinating and the class was very well structured.
Nothing bad to say about this professor. He is so kind and seriously cares about his students. It is also probably the easiest class I have and will ever take. Attendance wasn't required but sometimes we had group work in class that was graded. It could be made up but we were also graded by our group at the end of the semester
