The most helpful and knowlegeable teacher i have ever met. Helps u as long as you go to office hours. Knows a lot about the subject and is willing to help all students. Does not want anyone to fail. Take class, lot of studying
This is a tough class, but he gives you a lot of chances to succeed (study guides/sessions, curved grades). Take advantage of these! The top 10% of grades on any test gets to drop their low test. Lectures can be confusing. I got an A, but it was work.
He made poly sci very confusing and boring!
He is great! Not an easy class, lots of reading but he will make it possible for you to pass. If you fail, you just didn't want to do anything to pass!! He is very helpful, and will answer any questions you have. Loves his matter and can talk forever!
One of the best profs I had at SDSU! Tough class, but he knows the material so well that he packs the entire class period with facts. You will have to take really good notes. Be able to take your study guide terms that you can write a lot about each.
He is all over the place. If you can take this course at a JC, DO IT!! He assigns so much reading that it is impossible to keep up. GO TO CLASS or you will be lost on the exams. The exams are insanely long and the average is like 50%....tells you something.
INGRAM is the MAN! He can shoot out facts faster than Dustin Hoffman as Rainman and will talk forever. You will just be in a daze with the information he can give you. Take good notes and do well - he does not want you to fail! VERY fun class. You can definitely earn an A+ if you try hard!
He just talked and talked like everyone knew what he was talking about. Didn't explain and threw in examples from outta the blue and didn't explain those either. Worst class.
Ingram is extremely smart. the class consists of a lot of reading that you really dont have to do. He has an insane curve which really helps EVERYONE. I like him and he will swear once in a while during his lecture which is really funny. hes a good guy and one of the smartest persons i have seen.
He talks alot & repeats example over & over but he discusses really interesting stuff about all different countries. His curve helps a lot a 73 percent is almost an A+.Its all based on competition with other students. Helps SO much.he has review sessions where he basically gives you answers to test.
He's a very smart man. Unfortunately during his lectures he tends to go off on random thoughts and I usually fall asleep. He has the best curve system ever, giving everyone a chance. His review sessions before the test are VERY helpful, and he has no problem taking his own time to help his students.
Really hard class, but he gives so much help that you really can't fail. The curves are insane and he doesn't care when you turn in all the assignments, as long as it's before the final. Go to class, take notes, and go to review sessions and you're golden.
Best professor ever. just listen in class and you will be fine, he assigns a lot of reading, but it is really not necessary
Well... This class appears difficult when from first glance, especially for an introduction, but if you can follow his tangents (which are often amusing) and enjoy Star Trek and Subway you'll be fine. The tests are horrendous, but the curve makes up for it. It's all competition with classmates. :)
He wants you to read a lot, but I didn't read any of the material, didn't take any notes, and missed a number of classes and still wound up with a C. I just needed the units so that was fine by me. It appears to be a hard class but it's not.
THE BEST FREAKIN POLI SCI TEACHER @ SDSU!PUTS THE FOCUS ON LEARNING AND NOT GRADES!!! YOU'LL DO GREAT IN THE CLASS AND LEARN TONS!GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS AND LEARN WAY MORE! KNOWS TONS ABOUT EVERYTHING,OVERWHELMING AND KIND OF SCARY!TAKE HIM! TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES!!! HE'S GREAT!!!!!!!!!
Don't actually need to do the 600 pages of reading he assigns per weeek. He's impossible to follow unless you focus really really hard and have prior knowledge of politics world wide.INSANE curve so just go to the study sessions and do the quizzes and a C is nothing.
I think Jim Ingram is one of THE BEST professors at SDSU and YES......I think he is a hottie!
Most forgiving teacher I have had. Received grades which would have been failing in other classes, but were passing with B's and C's. Do not be intimidated by readings or lectures, most reading are unnecessary because of the curve.
Great class if you put effort in. You will learn tons and tons of information. Lots of reading but he curves the tests so much that I Got an A and never not higher than 64% on a test
Now heres a professor that knows his stuff! The class may seem intimidating at first (because of all the information he lectures to you) but if you read the reading, you'll do fine.
Probably the smartest guy IN THE WORLD! I enjoyed this class so much. Prof. Ingram is caring and really wants his students to succeed. You will get SO much out of this class...TAKE IT!!!
He is undoubtedly VERY intelligent! Keeps it real w/ his occasional cussing and his personal point of views. Like everyone has said, don't be intimidated by the reading, lectures, tests, etc... make sure u take good lecture notes, skim through the chapters, attend the study sessions and u're set!
The most intelligent prof. i've had...BUT it's nearly impossible to extract the neccessary info from his endless tangents and blabbing. You'll have to be very patient with this one, and bring a tape recorder for reference later. He is very helpful though, and a really nice guy.
Very smart guy, not the best at conveying knowledge in an understandable and relevant manner.Likes to ramble but interesting sometimes.Good class but not an easy class for slackers.
GAIN KNOWLEDGE!! If you are taking this class to crtitique your Political UNDERSTANDING, then Ingram will help you do it. LOAD of reading, but it is ALL relevant and interesting. He looks at the wholistic perspective of POLY SCI by studying the nature of politics .. my best teahcer yet
I luv this guy. He is smart and is funny as hell when he cusses. I would recommend this guy to anyone who seriously wants to learn Poli Sci.
Unless you love PoliSci and you want to read about it 24/7, skip this class. I took it for an elective & it was way more work than I wanted to do. If you do all the work and study, you can easily get an A because of the generous curve. Skip it if you're not a PoliSci major.
One of the smartest people i think on the face of this planet. I think he knows everything. The class is really not too hard because of the amazing curve, though there is a lot of reading. He knows politics because he is involved in them. Just study for the tests get one A+ and then you dont have to take the final. AMaaaazing class
Very clear, interesting lectures, papers are easy, tests are medium, always willing to help.
his lectures are rarely on topic, though he does say some interesting things,it is more to impress the freshmen students with his random knowledge than to actually educate. you can get an a easily if you go to a few of the classes and read a 1/4 of the readings since he has a ridiculously complicated curve that gets your small effort at least a B+
Very hard class but he is a very good professor.
he's an awesome teacher. class is tough so u gotta do all the reading and basically memorize all the id's he gives before every test. i thought he was an awesome teacher. he's really helpful too. he always responds to all emails. he has a great grading system and curve. i took the class 2 yrs ago and i still remember it haha.
This guy is funny, interesting and an all in all joy. Teaches class like it should be taught.
TEaches, very interesting teacher who gives you facts that are interesting and relavent. Gives you a great chance to get a good grade in his class. one of the best teachers I have ever had
gotta know material! lectures helpful for exams, but shouldn't depend on solely. there are 3 papers too, but for the grade he has so many ways to bump the grades up like with curves, and if you score an A+ on one exam you can opt out of another exam.
Great prof... tons of knowledge. If you get a chance, visit his office hours and pick his brain. He also writes tons of articles for LA and SD newspapers.
One of the best professors at SDSU. He is always willing to help and the class is very interesting. Pretty easy class if you go to the lectures, take good notes and you don't have to read all the book just know the main concepts. Memorize the ID's! My best poli sci class ever! Easy A.
I got a B- in the class but that's because I'm lazy. Tough class if you're trying to pass without reading. Lectures are useless, too many tangents and not enough material covered. Read the text assigned and you should do fine. Grading curve is effin' amazing. Beware of laziness.
Very smart man, he definetly knows what he is talking about. Lectures are quite boring however, especially if you take him one day a week. 3 tests, 2 papers...can drop or opt out of any of them. Huge curve, makes the class a little easier. Your call on whether to take him or not, pretty hit or miss. You'll definetely learn your stuff though
Ingram is a genius. It's amazing how much he knows about every single country that he lectures on. If you don't read or go to all the lectures then this class becomes very difficult. The curve for the tests is pretty generous. Recommended.
Earned a B- to a C on everything, with the curve they all became A's. Ended up with an A in the class and never actually went to class. Lectures are totally useless and he is an awful professor but the class is easy
A lot of work, but one of the nicest teachers I have ever had. Don't buy packet, just go to review sessions.
He has an Awesome curve if you take the class. I got an A on 4/5 of the assignments because I was always on the good end of the curve. I didn't buy the packet and still managed a good grade. Don't bother buying the chapter book either. You should read the chapters or divide and conquer the review sheets for tests. REally smart and extremely fair.
This teacher is very educated but has a problem with wandering off the topic. Curve helps grade. But if you talk to him dont expect him to look you straight in the eyes or give you a straight answer.
he is an awesome teacher and actually knows what he is talking about. if you have a question he is willing to answer and holds study sessions where he goes over EVERYTHING. although he does wonder off topic at times he is still a great teacher!
This guy is RESEMBLANCE of BLAINE BOWMAN for POLITICAL SCIENCE. But whatever happened to him teaching POLI SCI 321, 422 and 436?
NONE, but very helpful.
this class would have been much better if it was 2 times a week instead of 1. many difficult outside readings but he explains them in lecture. His study guide isnt really a study guide. Gives u "sample" test questions that are on the test. unorganized. took 6 weeks to get back a paper that had one line of comments on it.
professor knows alot. study guides didnt really help. gives 10 questions that will be on the test. hard essay grader. test are hard but some may want to differ.
most likely one of the top 5 smartest people to ever step foot on the SDSU campus.the guy wrote the freakin L.A. Charter!
best teacher ever! he may go off tangents oftern...but you learn alot even from that. he's really interesting to talk to and he will do anything to help his students. Excellent class, very easy if you consider the huge curve he grades on. He's a genious but he's not intimidating at all. Great Teacher!!!
Professor is very helpful and funny. Talks a mile a minute and is extremely intelligent. Can answer any question you throw at him. Tests are part scantron and part essay, they are difficult but he curves them. There are two papers in the class. Class was very interesting but you have to write very fast because he talks fast.
I took this class for credit and I only showed up to test dates and the reviews beforehand and never read, yet I still passed with flying colors. I don't recommend doing that if you're taking it for a letter grade, but do know that if all you do is go the review sessions, you should be set for the tests.
I showed up and listened to his lectures, skimmed the book, did fairly decent on the tests (great curve) and got a B in the class... not much work for a decent grade!
Best teacher ive had at State. Very interesting but slightly difficult course. Really funny, great class to take if your actually interested in the subject
Biggest waste of time I've ever had in a class. Absolutely the longest I've had to wait for grades in a class. The final is tomorrow and the grades from the first paper which were turned in at the end of Oct. are still not back. Way too much material for a 100 level course. And the subject matter is boring. Just use the matrix and study sessions
ingram is probably the smartest man i have ever met in my life. he knows everything!! he is super funny and makes class really enjoyable. the material isnt too hard and he curves the tests ALOT! (if you get a C its pretty much an A). he is such a nice and caring teacher im going to miss him!
this guys is brilliant. prob the smartest person ive ever met. his tests are really hard but there is a big curve and he goes way out of his way to help his students.
He knows everything. He tends to get off topic a lot but u learn a lot that way. Text, reader, & novel were hardly ever used, think hard before buying them. 3 tests & 2 essays is the whole grade and he drops the lowest one. You have to study on your own, but a really generous curve helps. Go 2 the review sessions. Quizzes have test q's, study them
J. Ingram is an extremely intelligent professor. His class was difficult and slightly too demanding for a 100 class, but I learned a lot. He uses a VERY generous curve. 3 exams, 2 papers- drops one grade. Would definitely take him again for another course.
Grade is based on 5 or 6 things: essays/ exams. This class is 'hard' for a 100 course, but it is meant to be bc it covers 12 countries. More memorizing means a better grade. NOT a hard class, HUGE curve; failed 1st exam but with the curve got an A-. He always wants to help, super smart guy. He even GIVES you all the notes you need for every exam!
GREAT class, he nice, curves the exams and explains everythhing well. he lectures real well and always willing to help you. he's very smart and knows everything and its very interesting to listen to him. take him and you're get at least a B by studying all the guides he gives you and you'll do well.
hes the smartest man ive ever come into contact with. the man literally knows EVERYTHING! the class is really hard and theres a LOT of reading but the curve is absolutely AMAZING! got Cs on the tests but As with the curve. only grades on 4 out of 6 assignments so it makes the class easier. definitely take him if you wanna learn something.
Terrible teacher. The only thing that kept my attention in his class was how offensive his language was. He does not know how to pull together random thoughts into the fascinating subject that poli sci usually is.
Extremely smart and really fair. His curves are a great help. Not the easiest of classes but he is very helpful. He gives you a lot of chances to bring up your grade. Would Definitely take him again!
Ingram is brilliant. He's so knowledgable and can lecture for 3 hrs straight without looking at notes. He's funny and can keep it interesting. His test are pretty hard but he DOUBLE CURVES all of them. He really tries to give you the better end of the deal at every possible angle as well as teach you something about the subject matter. highly recom
Smart guy but he should be teaching grad students not a 100 level class... This class is VERY hard and has a ton of material. its 2 tests, 2 papers, and a final. You get to drop one. there is a fat curve but beware, his tests are very wordy so go slow. And study like three days before each test TRUST ME.
possibly the smartest dude on the planet. Extremely helpful and caring for his students. Extremely fair and interested in making sure you understand the material. He gets off topic a lot, and his 11pm study sessions were a pain in the ass, but he's still an awesome teacher.
Ingram is the smartest person I've ever met. If poli sci is your thing, take this guy. Tests are pretty hard and you definately have to study. Two essays are pretty hard too. Tests are curved. There are 4 tests and 2 essays. He takes the best 5 grades to get your final grade. He really cares about helping students understand.
This guy is hilarious and a freakin genius. The class is very difficult, there is a lot of material to cover, and the tests are hard, but the curve is pretty generous. He is so helpful, offers study sessions and post-exam reviews. If you want to coast, don't take this class. If you're really interested in the subject, you will get a lot out of it.
This guy is like the smartest person ive ever met. This is one of the more difficult classes, especially for a 100 class. there is soo much material so you should definately go to every single class. Hes a nice guy and seriously knows everything.
Took this class last year and it is hard for a 100 class. Doesn't take attendance but I do not recommend skipping class and just read the book and show up on test day. Go to his lectures because he sometimes mentions important things that can be on the test and he clarifies a lot of stuff, too.
WoW! He doesn't teach the 103 class like a 103 class! Definitely need to either be in class or reading the text book every week.Keep up on your assigned readings and you should be Okay. Don't hesitate to ask questions, and don't forget to write challenges on the exams!
One of the greatest teachers ever. Got an A. Go to class and study hard.
Hard class, very hard tests and essay, but the curve is really good and if you read and study you'll do fine. I got an A just cramming every weekend before the tests and didn't have to write the essay b/c he drops one thing. He's really funny and interesting too. I'd take one of his classes again if I could.
It was a hard class, but he keeps it interesting. I would not recommend taking his course unless you are a polisci major.
Mr. Ingram is a very intelligent man. However, you must be patient because he likes to listen to himself talk. 40% of his lecture is usually a tangent from some question in class and not related to the material at all. He curves stupendously - got an A and did not buy the textbooks.
I thought this professor was AMAZING and he is such a nice guy! Some morons keep saying that he likes to hear himself talk, thats not true at all. He just loves to feed you information and if you ask for help he will go out on a limb for you. There are reviews for every test and go over all the material he puts up on blackboard = A.
Excellent Professor. He is a genius. The reason for why he goes off "tangent" is because this is college and he allows for you to think outside the box by applying ideas to the real world. The problem is that students want to get in and get out, not necessarily learn. He wants his students to succeed. Very helpful in his office hours.
The guy is brilliant. It almost seems like he has retained every single fact he's ever come across. Class is tough, but the tools are all there to do well. I had some scheduling conflicts with the class, and he was extremely helpful in working out a solution with me. One of the best teachers at SDSU.
So, he's obviously brilliant, & he can talk a blue streak, but he's quite nice & helpful. Weirdest grading system I've yet encountered, but the curves are amazing! In order to really grasp the material (LOTS of material), you have to put some effort in, but he has study sessions & all kinds of study aids on blackboard, which really saves you.
smart man he's down to earth and really knows what hes talking about i took both his 103 and 422 class there both hard but if you try youll pass with at least a C i got a B in his 422 class..overall GOOD TEACHER class is hard but pnce you finsish you will feel good
Doctor Ingram is a very smart guy, just as everyone else has put. Also, he is very entertaining. But the best part is that he is very accessible and helps his students out a lot. His classes are challenging but worth it.
Extremely approachable. Very nice guy. Also very intelligent. Take advantage of the old midterms and practice exams. They are incredibly helpful in preparing for them. Try to make it to the lectures because a lot of times he'll present possible test questions that end up on the tests.
good teacher...trys to keep class engaged and entertained...he also spent lots of time reviewing for exams...overall good professor
World class professor! Problem one of the smartest people on the planet. His lectures are fun and engaging.Expect to read in his class, but he is a fair grader.
I thought this class was pretty hard...12 countries in 15 weeks = HELL! Didn't do too hot on exams but because of his curves, I walked out with a C+
Poli Sci 103- Loved having him as a teacher, nerdy but very passionate and interesting- can go off on tangents. This class is difficult! But if you try hard you can do well, extra credit opps, go to him for help he loves to talk to students. make flashcards! I failed the first test but ended up with a b+
Awful. So boring, could never pay attention. Good curves though.
Great professor. Very difficult class if you don't read or listen to lectures. He uses wimba so you can listen to lectures for studying. He's a y nice guy and if you go to office hours he's really easy to talk to.
He's probably one of the smartest people I've ever met. Not only is he brilliant but kind, quirky, and passionate. Everything you want in a professor! I am taking his class for c/nc and in my last year at state- and unfortunately did not take advantage of the class as I should have but believe me, you don't come across professors like this often!
This teacher is dope! Lectures are immensely inispid but this class is a breeze! He hardly ever takes attendance but makes this class so easy that you have to try to get a bad grade in this class. He is very lenient and takes great interest in his students.
Lectures are boring and attendance isn't mandatory. He does good review sessions on wimba. Easy class, but do study for the final its 150 questions. His grading curves are awesome though.
This class was really interesting and I felt like I learned alot. Now if you're just starting to take Poli sci classes alot of the material might go over your head because he goes over everything really quickly. There is ALOT of material covered but there is a big curve. As long as you study and read you should do well.
Professor Ingram is one of THE BEST instructors at San Diego State University. Take his classes, you will learn a lot and have a pretty good time. Prof. Ingram does tend to cuss during lectures (which I find funny and down to earth), but he tells you that the first day of class (in case you don't approve of such language).
Best teacher for political science! he is great. he knows so much about the subject and he makes it really interesting. his tests are kinda hard but he has an amazing curve. he is probably one of the most knowledgeable teachers regarding his subject. he is also VERY helpful if you have an issue or dont understand something.
Super helpful and nice. very interesting lectures, he really knows what hes talking about and enjoys talking about it. you dont have to go to any lectures because he broadcasts via wimba. really good class to take!
amazing professor. tends to get off topic, but its only because he's brilliant. very helpful. USE OLD EXAMS AND STUDY GUIDES. tests are open note but challenging. if you prepare correctly for the exams, youll do fine just stay organized.
Great guy. His real experience in the field makes him incredibly knowledgeable. He wore a suit on the first day and I was thinking he'd be real serious all semester but he's very down to earth and isn't afraid to cuss and go off on tangents. You'll need to study as his tests are appropriately difficult for 321, but not bad at all. Take him
Best teacher at state. Easy and you learn a lot. speaks fast but he uses wimba so u can go back and listen to his lectures.
You don't have to go all lectures online. Tests are open book and notes. Give old exams. Highly recommend.
Probably the most intelligent professor I've met at SDSU. Super helpful, moderately difficult, and very funny. Don't need to attend class but do the readings. Average grade on first 2 midterms for the class was below 55% !
Extremely disorganized, you don't even know how to calculate your grade because he changes it so much. Grades on a curve. I took this class over the summer. 3 exams (600 pts total) - in class multiple choice and a take home essay portion, extra credit, optional 8 page essay. records lessons online so attendance isnt mandatory
Hard to follow in class. LOTS of reading required every night/week. DO THE READING!!! Exams are all open note open book open computer. BUT they are EXTREMELY difficult because its open everything. He rarely talks about anything that will be on the test. Goes off on unnecessary tangents about San Diego ALL the time. Lectures available online too
Really nice and caring. Genuinely cares about his students. Must read the textbook to do well in the class. Records all lectures and posts them online so attendance isn't mandatory. Tests are open note, book and computer, but lengthy, so you have to know the material because you might find yourself pressed for time. Definitely recommend him!!
Extremely nice and helpful when you ask questions!!! HIGHLY RECCOMENDED
AWESOME teacher! Extremely knowledgeable about the course info. Tests are open book. Answers questions thoroughly. FANTASTIC professor, I wish he taught all my classes.
This is not an easy class. The tests are difficult because you do not have a lot of time to complete them and they contain VERY detailed and specific questions. He takes forever to put up grades. His lectures are disorganized. He deletes like half of the study guide and gives you different information to study like two days before the exams.
Great professor but very challenging. Tests are open notes & open computer, but you only have 1 minute per question so good luck if you haven't done the readings. Lectures are online but come to class because half the time, the archiving device doesn't work. 4 exams & 1 optional essay. If you do the exam, he will drop your lowest score. Huge Curve.
Easily one of the most intelligent and interesting professors at SDSU. Obviously knows everything he is talking about. Gives real life examples to every single thing he discusses in lecture. Tests are open computer/note/book/anything but still veryyy difficult and require some actual studying. Take home tests are pretty easy. Curves everything too!
Professor Ingram is by far the smartest man I have ever met, if you are at all interested in political science take him and I guarantee you will get a lot out of his class. But it is not easy, you have to work for it. Although, his curves are what will save your grade. I got a D on the first midterm but ended up with an A in the class. Work hard!
Dr. Ingram is an extremely smart guy and he definitely knows his stuff but he's so boring to listen to. He tends to go off on tangents that are somewhat relevant, but not interesting at all. He uses Wimba so you don't really have to go to class. Amazing curve so easy to pass!
Not exactly an easy A but with the curve an extremely easy B. All the powerpoints are online along with his actual lectures on wimba so there is no need to ever attend class. 2 multiple choice mid-terms and 2 (long)written take homes along with a final mc and final essay. the curve is very generous and you can drop a whole test. RECOMMENDED!
Super easy class if you actually take notes and listen to powerpoint. His lectures are boring in my opinion. You will need the textbook for the take-home exam--since the terms are usually found in the book. I didn't go to his class most of the time and I am a terrible procrastinator but I was still able to get a B+
Dr. Ingram is pretty chill and funny at times, but lectures in a monotone voice. He lets us use our notes, books, and laptops on tests and kept pushing the essay due date back. I passed with the bare minimum b/c I dislike this subject.
He really knows what he's talking about. He is very available to studets and uses technolgy in a way that seriously benefits everyone. He's quick to respond to email questions and his lectures are interesting to listen to. Great professor, highly recommended.
Dr Ingram is probably one of the best professors that SDSU has. As an extremely knowledgeable gentleman, he really does cater to all learning styles. If you dig poll sci, you will enjoy listening to his lecture, which are mostly monotone but sometimes quite funny. If not, he records all lectures on Wimba so you never need to attend class.
Great teacher. Records all his lectures online so you can catch up whenever. I usually don't post on here unless I get a teacher that I really like. He's a helpful and interesting dude. Just pull an all-nighter the night before any test and you should be good for an easy A.
I also took his 103 class, and it was a breeze. You don't have to attend his classes he does them online and even then you don't have to watch those. In 422 I showed up maybe four times and got an A, but a lot of work went into it by the end you will have written at least 15 pages. However Ingram is a genius amazingly smart. Take his class!
Super easy class. Do the study guides and practice tests, and you'll be in great shape. Tests are open book/note/computer, whatever you want to use. Professor Ingram knows what he's talking about and is very helpful! Great guy; very approachable.
He is a walking encyclopedia. His classes are unbearably boring and he talks exceedingly fast. But he posts his lectures with audio online and you barely ever need to go to class. His tests are open book but challenging. I’d take his class again.
I have taken Ingram twice now and he is awesome. You don;t have to go to class as he archives his lectures. Just do the readings, listen to his lectures and take good notes on your laptop and you will get an A.
GREAT CLASS! My third time taking Ingram and I received another A!!! He's great and super helpful! I highly recommend
Extremely easy to get a B. have to put in work to get an A. Pepare notes well for test (all tests are open notes) and youll get an A like I did. Take him for sure!
His Comparative politics class was filled with interesting topics and his own style of nerd -funny. I enjoyed his lectures although it was a little boring at times. Workload is easy, tests are difficult but with a fair amount of effort you can pull of an A. I recommend this class, he's very intelligent!!
The Campaigns and Elections class was fairly easy for the most part just stay caught up on your readings and know where things are to look up on his exams Open book open notes. Was a little disorganized but over Dr. Ingram is a smart man and you'll learn a lot from him! One of my favorite Professors in the Pol Sci Dept! Take him if you can!
Take him! You don't even have to go to class because he records his lectures so they are available on blackboard. The exams are open books, notes, and even laptop!! No assignments just extra credits and exams. The exams are 2 parts: in class and essay (at home). Super easy!
Dr. Ingram is a very smart professor. He knows his stuff which makes him a great teacher. His class itself is not hard, but you do need to put in the effort to get a good grade. His tests are open everything (notes, book, laptop, etc.) so you need to come prepared. I would recommend him to anyone and I would like to take one of his classes again.
He is extremely brilliant and the class definitely goes on tangents but very easy to get an A, records lectures so attendance was not mandatory. Take this class. You only need the book to write the take home essay portions or the midterms.
Great, knowledgeable proffesor who really cares about his students. All lectures are up online so no real need to go to classes, tests are open notes, laptop, book, etc. This class is pretty easy as long as you put in at least minimal effort. I highly recommend taking this class
Great professor. This guy is brilliant. Everything is open book, however his test questions are much harder. I recommend doing the readings. Gives goo opportunities to do extra credit. All lectures posted online so you do not have to attend class.
Tests are open book, notes, computer. Make sure to take with friends. Work on the tests together. You will get an A. Gives a lot of easy participation. Very bad a communication with their students though.
I had this guy my freshman year so I don't know if he changed much but it was a hard class for me and I went to class every time. He records the lectures so you don't even really have to go. He is smart but goes off on weird tangents. Hard class, if you're looking for an easy grade choose a different class/instructor.
Open note, book and computer midterm and final. Take home midterm and final, you will need good notes for. He records his lectures so it is not a big deal if you pay attention in class. Overall easy, just very boring
Ingram is incredibly smart. He knows everything. But he has too many students and therefore is slow to grade and doesn't return emails. The class has a steep curve which is a miracle because his multiple choice tests are difficult.
Tests are hard, Open notes everything bt allows less than 1 min per ?s on each. Lectures are recorded in Wimba although must show up to class for participation grade.Has excuses for everything, like posting study guide early (ALWAYS post the day before test) DRY,BORING, DOESN'T RESPOND TO EMAILS EVER. 2 midterms, 3 take home essays,2 finals.
Ingram is really smart guy, but not a good teacher. His lectures are online, which is a plus. But they are often off track and don't come up on the multiple choice tests. They tests are surprisingly hard considering its open book and computer. His grading is also confusing and very slow. take someone else if possible.
If you don't read the book and all the articles that he gives you, then you will fail the class. His exams are very hard, unless you know where to look for the answers (exams are open book, notes, computer). He is very knowledgeable and he is very helpful if you go to his office hours.
Via Collaborate are online lectures possible. Does not take attendance. Totally disorganized, but friendly. You need to go to his office hours. Has a B+ curve. So the best 30% receive an A or A+. Only take his course if you are under these 30%. A lot of work, but extra credit possibility (up to 20%).
No attendance required! Live lectures are posted online immediately. His lectures are hit or miss. Some are incredibly interesting and others literally put me to sleep. Tests are open book/notes/computer and yet are super hard. Do all the extra credit and a B+/A is doable.
Extremely bad professor. I studied more than 10 hours for every exam. He allows a back an front cheat sheet any font but doesn't specify what is going to be on the test enough to make a decent study guide. Rambles in class and rarely talks about what will be on a test. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. TERRIBLE "TEACHER"
The tests are no longer open book/note and they are just as hard. I studied my butt off for every test and failed all of them, because his lectures are irrelevant and the text book is too vague for his test questions. He is also super boring and tends to go off on random tangents. Honestly don't take him.
Tests are no longer open note/book/computer. Lectures are random and have nothing to do with the exams. Changes the grading system for the class on a weekly basis. He took 2 months to grade our first midterm, so no one will have any idea what their grade is going into the final. Infrequently responds to e-mail. His teaching has gone SO downhill.
No longer open book/notes/computer but he allows a front and back cheat sheet. The tests are extremely difficult but it works to your advantage because most people fail so the curve is MASSIVE(A 68% turned into a 100% for one of my MT) You don't have to go to lecture because they're archived on BB. 35% extra credit is offered so you should be fine.
Tests are not super hard if you put every MC question from the books on your cheat sheet. Class is really unorganized, changes grading criteria all the time, not set days for anything being due, read, etc. Had a student that basically acted as T.A. even though he was enrolled in our class- proctored tests, saw our grades, etc. Terrible, Terrible.
Test are actually extremely hard to the point that he always has a massive curve on the tests. 68% ended up being an A on one of the tests. Very knowledgeable and always has office hours. Extremely dry and boring lectures. I only attended about half of the lectures and got an A. Chill guy, but really boring. Still waiting on my grades though......
Call him an "educator" all you want but this guy isn't one. Worst class I have ever taken. His lectures are designed for Master's students, his tests are ridiculous, and he takes weeks to grade anything. He has no curve his tests so much that a D on the exam would earn you an A. He blames the students for doing poorly, but the blame is ALL his.
Worst class of my life. I did the once a week classes and only attended half of them. Lectures are useless. There are 3 exams with both a Multiple Choice and Essay/Short response component. The curve is ridiculous with one exam having a 58/100 being a C+. Be warned, he's hard to approach and seems very condescending.
He is one interesting guy, pretty weird and a boring lecturer but he is full of knowledge that he wants to share. His lectures are long and boring, I never paid attention. Study what he tells you which is the bookonline questions. He also makes a study guide with concepts that I would print out. Open bookopen notes is the ONLY way I passed
Ingram is brilliant, but he can't relay the information to his students. Course consisted of 2 Midterms and 1 Final (MCshort essays) with huge curves. Tests are open booknotes. You really need to read the book because the tests are very hard. I never payed attention in class but I read the book before tests and I got an A for the semester.
Ingram's lectures are extremely dry. If it wasn't for the mandatory attendance, you wouldnt even need to show up to class because all lectures are posted online. Tests were open note and open book. He gives a study guide. If you fill out the study guide thoroughly, you'll get an A due to the humongous curve he offers.
Long, boring lectures that go completely off topic. Tests cover all the readings he mentions from textbook and course reader. Pretty boring class.
Didn't follow his syllabus. Took 1 day a week-he keeps you whole time. Random in class assignmentssign in sheet for participation points. Essays for midtermfinals aren't hard IF you readwatch the films (which he shows in class-not al on NetflixYoutube FYI). Picky grader, but he'll help you in office hours. ALSO lets you redo midterm essays
This guy was the most boring poli sci professor I've ever had. His lectures are so long and dry, he does not even attempt to make it interesting. I have him 4-6:40 and he did not even give a break! Save yourself from being bored to death and don't take him. He also grades ambiguously giving you papers grades like B-C+, literally he wrote that .
He is the worst, yet best teacher ever. His lectures are long and he rants about nonsense a lot of the time. He is a bit dry. I barely went to class and ended up with an A. Tests are SOOO long but are almost always curved. YOU NEED THE TEXTBOOK if you want to pass since tests are open notes/books.
Ingram is a good professor. His lectures are clear and interesting. He would let you bring any paper or book to the exams but no electronic devices. I would definitely choose him again as my POL S 102 professor.
He always add his own opinion that it gets annoying. The tests though are not that bad. He lets you to bring everything to the tests except a computer. The only thing that determines your grade are 2 midterms and the final. All the tests consist of a written and a multiple choice section. He does his lectures online too so no need to go to class.
Professor James Ingram is quite intelligent. Exams (mc & written) are open note. His lectures are given in person but students who missed the class can get those lectures via blackboard. The online readings he assigned are tough for me since I'm a second language learner. Those who are eloquent in English should do very well in this class.
He curves his tests a generous amount. I took his class and never went to class or studied and I passed. I missed a midterm and he worked with me to help out. His tests are tough but you're allowed to bring in your books and notes.
This professor may seem condescending at first, but once you get to know him, he is a very nice person. It does for sure take time to get to know him and he will adjust the difficulty of the midterms and the final. As well as, the question format. He is very accommodating and is very helpful. Open book midterms and final!
This class isn't easy only because there is so much info to learn BUT he allows you to use all notes and the textbook on exams. If you're a PoliSci major i would take him because you will learn SO much. I liked him a lot and will be taking him for upper division courses. He's very smart and funny; I looked forward to his classes.
3 tests, all open note and open book. Curves his exams. Puts practice exams (with correct answers) online and takes questions from old exams and puts them on the new one. Offers enough extra credit throughout semester to replace 1 exam grade. does a review session that goes over everything that will be on exam and made google doc with the answers
Ingram is the best teacher I've had at SDSU thus far. He has clear expectations for his class and as long as you do the reading and listen to his lectures, you'll get a good grade
I hoped for a deeper insight into the US Constitution but learned nothing the whole semester. He's very knowledgeable but I found the content and structure of the class lacking. The exams are nitpicky, basically just historical trivia, & the lectures & outside reading are dry, boring, & lack insight. There's no emphasis on any actual understanding.
Ingram is a good professor and he is extremely knowledgable. I personally did not like this course. He could talk forever about certain topics. His exams are open note, and does a study session before each of them. He drops one at the end of the semester and offers a lot of extra credit that could bring you up a letter grade!
Really BORING lectures, no one pays attention to him during lectures and he's kinda weird too. 90 percent of the class is graded from midterms and final but he does do extra credit which is good. If you do take him, you don't need to go to class but have a friend put you down for attendance and dont do anything for the class until the review is out
He is pretty easy as long as you prepare for the exams. They are open note and open book exams and are not too hard as long s you really organize your notes. He can be kind of boring but he also posts all lectures and exam prep on Blackboard. Good professor.
Guy is a genius walking encyclopedia. He often goes on a lot of tangents in lectures, but just focus on main points. 3 online essays that are easy A's(if work hard) and 3 extremely hard in class exams( although they are really curved and open note). Read 3 books(about 2000 pages). Takes time grading. Offers lots of extra credit. I learned a lot.
His lectures are EXTREMELY boring and he is very opinionated which leads to him going off on tangents quite often. Additionally, your grade relies on tests and any extra credit you do, so review and read for tests and do any extra credit. Attendance is not mandatory, especially if you have your friends sign you in. Seems like a nice dude though.
Many students were just taking this class for general ed credit and were surprised by the level of difficulty of this course. He rambles on during his lectures and his powerpoint slides have way too many words and are hard to follow. He is unorganized and unclear about what will show up on exams. A ridiculous amount of required reading as well.
Tests are ridiculous, but at least you can use notes and the textbook. He even let us use our phones and laptops. He also curves the exams. His lectures are dry and boring but he records his lectures and posts them online, so no one pays attention during lecture and only goes for attendance points. Lots of EC opportunities though.
Professor Ingram knows so much about politics. It is very impressive. You really can learn something in his lectures when you are really interested in the subject. But it was sometimes hard to follow as an exchange student. 3 Exams: MC and written component: 50:50. MC easy. Written component doable. Open book exam!
He is very passionate and knowledgable on the material. You can use the textbook, a study guide, and a laptop on exams. Offers enough EC to make up one part (MC or Written) of an exam and if you do a political internship, that's another exam (so you can get out of the final if you're happy with your grade), plus drops your lowest exam grade.
The only reason people don't succeed in his class is lack of effort. All tests are open book/computer so if you don't know something you can easily look it up. Drops lowest grade.
Knows a lot about politics but lectures are boring, he doesn't stop talking. 2 midterms and final (MCs + written). Very hard tests but open book and computer. Only first midterm wasn't open computer, don't know why he changed after. Drops lowest score. Big curve, not hard to pass. Sometimes takes attendance but you don't really need to go to class.
Two midterms and a final: each test is made up of Multiple Choice (50) and Written Answer (10). This (along with lots of offered extra credit) is the only grade input for the class (might have been a 10% attendance grade?). Takes attendance every now and then. Tests are heavily curved, all are open book/ open notes. Tests are HARD- did not finish.
Great Teacher. He gives you 1 dropped test which is nice if you forget to study. He lets you use your laptop during tests but they don't help much. Make sure to read the textbook. Lectures aren't necessary, but he can use questions based on lecture. He's passionate about PoliSci and he can go on rants which are fun to listen to.
On the last two tests he let all students use laptops, notes, textbook, etc as long as were didn't talk to people. He curves all tests but bc of the internet the curve didn't help very much. Tests were difficult and he expects you to read a lot. Boring class, hate the subject, only took this class because I had to for the American Institutions GE.
Dr. Ingram is one of the best professors I have had at State. The Constitution class was very interesting and he is an extremely knowledgeable professor. With that said, this a class that you must work hard in to get and "A" but he is generous with extra credit. If you are interested in the US Constitution take this class! It's worth it for sure.
I took Professor Ingram for PoliSci102 freshman year and again for PoliSci320 this year. He is a fantastic teacher who is willing to speak his mind and voice his opinions. It was a pleasure having him as a teacher. As long as you study for his tests and do the readings you will be fine, his tests are open note in every class I've had him.
Ingram helped students out by giving them a solid curve ontop of having open note exams. There is a ton of material to cover which ultimately makes this course reasonably challenging. I feel he could have been more focused on the important information and we all would have learned more.
Ingram is solid he gives you the information you need and genuinely wants his students to do well. All tests are open note and book.
Ingram is a pretty decent professor. Lots of lectures but he is very passionate about it and makes it interesting.
James is a great Professor. In this class you must read the chapters. Very smart and nice person! One of the best teachers I've ever had.
I hated this class due to the time that I had it (once a week from 4-6:40pm), the subject matter was interesting but I had trouble focusing because his lectures were long, boring and seemed to never end. We had daily quizzes but you can make them up. All the tests are open note but very difficult, he curves heavily and is generous with extra credit
Ingram is a really smart guy, and he's super understanding. He knows SO much about politics and is very knowledgable. The tests are really hard and I failed them all, but theres a generous curve so I ended up getting B's on them all. They are open note, but it doesn't really help that much. If you do the readings and extra credit you'll be fine.
DO NOT TAKE HIS 3 HOUR CLASS. You won't survive it. Either pay close attention in his lectures or buy the textbook, even if he tells you you don't need it. The online readings were the worst thing in my entire semester. Try to do them on time. The 3 tests are open notes so print out every single online reading + the powerpoints + everything else
I took this class after hearing that the tests were open note. However, the exams were very difficult. But because of the curve, I was able to pass all the exams with B's. He lectures nonstop. It's hard to tell when he's on/off topic. I managed to pass the class with a B+. There are daily quizzes and attendance. Reading is required!
He is a really nice guy who is very knowledgeable and accommodating, but he can't teach. His lectures are incredibly boring and he puts way too much info on each slide. I'm not going to lie, his tests are hard even though he gives a study guide. Tests are open book. I didn't learn anything in this class. He is fairly objective which was nice.
Prof Ingram is a nice and passionate about pol sic. But this is not an easy GE class. He gives very generous curve but tests are still difficult even though it's open book (you won't have time to look up every answer). Read, read and read!! He's also not very accessible outside of class but do all extra credits, you should be fine.
He might be the smartest person I've ever met. His mind works like an encyclopedia. His lectures are boring tho, and he stands behind the podium the entire time. Tests aren't that difficult cuz he does a review session and there is no homework, other than in class quizzes on coursekey. He offers up to 10% extra credit which is amazing.
His intelligence is amazing. Very kind, funny, down to earth personality. Class is all lecture, but he is interesting to listen to, and very accommodating.
No longer lets students use laptops because of a cheating incident, but you can print out any readings you need for the tests. He's very transparent about grades and is accessible through office hours. Really cares about how his students do and his lectures were long but pretty interesting and occasionally funny.
If you like political science, you will definitely love his class. I, however, find only his humor interesting because I don't like politics at all. GET READY TO READ! If you can't read 20 pages a week, don't take his class! PRINT EVERYTHING... TYPE THE CONTENT OF YOUR BOOK IF YOU CAN. Exams are open notes for a reason! He's very generous on curve
He doesn't organize his thoughts when he lectures. 20-50% of lecture is rambling/tangents. You will never know what's important. And that one thing that he spent a total of 5 minutes talking about? He's testing you on that. Unresponsive outside of class. Doesn't follow his own syllabus. He had to curve a C to an A on the last midterm. Nightmare.
pretty soft spoken, hard to hear sometimes. He posts all his lectures online. Exams are around 80 questions and allows paper notes to be used. No electronic notes. Written exams are take home. You use coursekey for attendance and quizzes. 1 textbook in this class
This class stressed me out more than any other class I've ever taken. I never know what he is going to ask on the tests and the take-home short answer sections are nearly impossible. I'm usually an A/B student, and I'm just hoping I pass this class. Avoid taking this professor if you can. He's a good and nice guy, but his class is killer.
Grade is based on 2 tests, attendance, and daily quizzes. Tests are divided into a MC in-class portion and take-home long answer portion. People rarely have enough time, grades on MC end up so bad curve is 20-30%. Take home portion is V difficult. Lectures are awful and slides are too wordy. Reading is greatly excessive for a GE 101 class.
Dr. Ingram is a great man, passionate and very knowledgeable in his field. However, this class was very difficult and not well-structured. This course relies heavily on lecture and lengthy readings. He goes on tangent for the 90% of class, which is why it's hard to study for exams. This class isn't for those not well-versed in politics
Lectures are mundane and his voice is monotone. 90% of class you don't know what he is talking about.. Took him for 101 and this class was nothing like it. His 321 class was constantly confused and his exams were difficult. Attendance is mandatory bc of course key and quizzes due by the end of the day through coursekey.
Tests are hard but he knows that, so he gives a FAT curve. Studied a bunch only to receive a 100/150 on the second midterm. However, it got curved to an A lol so I can't imagine what other people scored. Don't let "open note" fool you. You need to have a good understanding of each political theorists. His lectures may be boring but he's a nice guy
The class context itself is not hard, it's more of a repeat of Pol102. There is 3 exams including the final. Multiple choice in class and take home written. The multiple choice is impossible. We get tested on things we NEVER even touches bases on. There is extra credit around 40% worth of it... PRAY FOR THE CURVE! Oh and you can barely hear him!
Ingram clearly wants his students to pass (hence curves on everything) he does have a very monotone voice and lectures are boring. he assigns many long readings each week. his tests are open book. personally, i failed every test and i never read the readings but hey i ended the class with a b- so im not mad.
Had him for 101 and 321 and he's one of the best professors here. While his lectures might be difficult to follow at times, all you need to do for the tests is print out a copy of them from BB and you'll do good. The curve is very, very generous on both MC and take-home short-answer. Coursekey attendance, print all notes, and lots of extra credit.
You have to go to class for Coursekey. Be vigilant in checking when quizzes are available b/c sometimes he forgets to tell you. Lots of lectures and talking. Just use the slides and the txtbk and you'll do well. Open notes (not book) for the test. Free response due one week later. Overall not a hard class but you still had to work for a good grade.
it is an alright class. you have to use coursekey for quizzes and attendance. Quizzes are due at midnight of class meeting day. a lot of extra credit offered that can substitute an exam grade. there is also an optional paper that counts for two exams. lectures posted online. open note exams. sometimes it is hard to know what will be on the test.
awesome! gives TONS extra credit, very passionate, nice, easy to work w , cares about what he is teaching! he is involved w the field outside of class!!! take him :) i thought i would fail and ended w an A-
write 6 critical reviews or essays on a chapter of the readings assigned, talk about them in class and a final research project. He spends the whole time on tangents and takes up time which does not allow you to present and puts the class behind.
Ingram is such a nice man, very very intelligent which is why I think his class is harder. You're graded by very few things, 3 tests. MC tests are extremely hard even though they're open notes. I'm typically an A/B student and right now I have a D in the class. WAY too hard for a GE class. He won't give you you much information in his lectures.
Nice guy but his lectures are extremely hard to follow and his exams don't coordinate with what he lectures on in class. Definitely don't recommend taking his pole-sci 101 course. He curves tests but his class is EXTREMELY difficult.
nice and smart guy but lectures from 1st minute to last. very ranty/does stay on topic. non cumulative tests. gives study guides before tests and theyre open book, so just study for a week before and teach yourself the topics. encourages readings but he wrote the txtbk so its just as ranty. offers alot of extra credit. talk to him after class.
DO NOT take his poly sci 101 course. The tests are insanely hard and do not correlate with the lectures and he rambles on and on. By far the worst class I took this semester and I would steer clear.
It's no doubt that professor Ingram knows what he's talking about, honestly one of the most informed professor i've had however because of this it's hard to follow his lectures. The text book he assigns with the class is very helpful and in my opinion easier to understand. He curves tests, offers extra credit, online quizzes after every class.
Really smart and nice professor. bi-Weekly online quizzes but you can find most of the answers on quizlet. bi-weekly readings but you don't need to do them if you just study hard for the 3 tests. This class was a grind, but getting an A is very plausible.
Ingram is a very intelligent professor, but I WOULD NOT recommend taking his class if you're looking for an easy GE or don't like history at all. His tests are very hard, I got low D's on all of them. I never read any of the readings but still ended up with a B-. DO WELL ON THE WRITTEN EXAMS (use quotes from him)! I know that helped me in the end!
Prof. Ingram is extremely nice and understanding, however his tests are extremely hard even with open textbook and open notes. No homework but you take a short quiz on your phone after every class. Two midterms, one final (multiple choice AND take home for all 3). I got a C or F on the tests but extra credit (easy) raised my grade to a B+
he really does care about his students and wants them to do well. The class is hard and there are a lot of readings, the lectures sometimes end up going on long tangents, but he curves it a lot. Personally I did none of the reading and got a D/C on every test and ended up with an A-.
Dr. Ingram was the nicest professor I had during my first semester at SDSU! He is a super friendly person and is a down to earth guy who knows what he is talking about! You have 2 midterms and a final, each has a multiple-choice and written component. The tests are hard, although he has a generous curve that will allow you to get a B+ or A.
Ingram just wants to help you, he is very smart and provides a lot of insight on the topics. He gives curves and extra credit to ensure that you can get a decent grade if the exams did not go your way.
A lot of reading, but he is very generous in his curves. 2 midterms with 75 MC questions, 2 written midterms with 10 essay questions (have a week to finish), one 75 MC final and one written final with 5 essay questions.
Beware!!! He is NOT accessible outside of class. Even without corona around, this course was incredibly difficult, especially for a GE. The tests are impossible to pass which is why he has to curve, otherwise everyone would fail completely. One of the most disorganized professors and classes Ive taken at State. Stay away from this one if you can!
Unbelievably hard class. I've never seen such panic amongst a group of kids in my life. The curves are phenomenal but almost not worth the level of difficulty for the tests. His HW quizzes are easy but his lectures. OH MY GOD HIS LECTURES. You may sit there for the whole classand will get through 3 slides bc he's all over the place. He's too smart
He curves a lot and gives a lot of extra credit, so don't be too worried whether you will pass. I actually didn't read any of the many readings he requires and still ended up with an A due to the curve. He allows you to take any printed notes into the test so find a group doc and that's really helpful. Once got a 75% raw which curved into 110%!
He is such an amazing professor. His class is filled with lots of work but nothing hard. If you do study exams will be easy. Not an easy A but its possible. I recommend doing a internship because he will give you extra credit.
Ingram Is a very cool professor. I wish more professors had his energy to teach. You can tell he is very passionate about his work. His exams are very tough but he lets you use open Notes. He provides lots of extra credit. I recommend participating in any political related internship/volunteer work,it will help boost your grade up a letter grade.
I absolutely did not like Prof. Ingram. I found some of his videos and commentary offensive and overall I didn't enjoy lectures. His tests are open note but difficult. He takes attendance and there are quizzes each lecture. The papers are really important to do well on as they can make or break your grade; write to the max page limit!
If you care about learning I dont recommend this class. His lectures are extremely hard to follow bc his mic was terrible and he rambles on and on constantly off topic. He let us take the quizzes unlimitied times so if you keep doing them you can get 100. The midterm was curved, but you had to teach yourself. Gives 10% ec. Nice guy, tough class.
Quizzes are easy, lets u retake them. Tests are super hard KNOW THE CONTENT! He is honestly very disorganized. Make sure to know the content and the readings. Study the lectures. His tests are very hard and lengthy. I wouldnt recommend this class but its not that hard to be honest.
I can tell he truly wants his students to be successful, but the course feels extremely unorganized. I really appreciate that he curves the tests, but the audio quality of his zoom lectures is so horrible that it makes it hard to be successful.
Taking a heavy lecture based class online is difficult. Open note quizzes w/ unlimited attempts. Difficult exams/written exams. Very good curves tho. His lectures are asynchronous but his mic is so bad and makes it hard to understand. The assigned readings are so damn long. Overall, decent professor, content is just too hard to learn online
Dr. Ingram is very nice and intelligent professor. However, his lectures are extremely boring and hard to follow. He often goes off topic and I can honestly say I haven't learned a lot in his class. His quizzes are not too hard but his tests can be difficult. Overall I would not encourage anyone to take his class if you actually want to learn.
His tests are really hard (Written and multiple choice) and truthfully you hardly learn anything from his class. Additionally, if it is still online, do not expect to hear him over zoom because of his trash mic.
Ingram is one of these professors at sdsu. He does everything he can to help his students. I recommend participating in a internship. This help me with my grade. Make sure to attend class and take notes. I didnt do well on his exams, but he finds other ways to help his students learn by offering lots of extra credit. My final grade was a A-
Quite possibly the worst class I've ever taken at SDSU. In terms of being an online professor Ingram is completely unorganized and assigns at least 15 readings some with upwards of 40 pages worth of content for each unit. His lectures are very hard to follow and the material is extremely overwhelming. He also takes a very long time to grade tests.
Professor Ingram offers extra credit and a considerable curve on all his test--though this is probably because most student don't score too high. That being said, the class is very unorganized in terms of his lectures, materials, and schedule. Wouldn't recommend unless you prefer reading A LOT and learning on your own.
Trust me on this. if you arent naturally smart DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. It is very hard. TAKE ANOTHER POLS101 course.
His tests are open note but can be very difficult, which he helps with a very fair grading curve. His lectures are not mandatory and always recorded, but showing up is definitely helpful. Extra credit is pretty easy and can make or break your grade. DO THE READINGS and take good notes it makes all the difference
Professor Ingram is so so smart but isn't very well organized. Since his exams are super super hard he almost always curves them a lot so you end up with a decent grade. There's many chances for extra credit to really boost your grade.
Oh boy. This was by far the most stressful class I have ever taken. He is a nice dude but his lectures are really dry and he rambles a lot. Also, you are expected to do all the reading he assigns which is a lot!!! There is no way to do all this in a given week along with your other classes. It's 2 to 3 classes worth of reading, easy.
Cool professor, but pretty boring lectures. Doesn't reply to emails fast, has a lot of students all at once, but definitely tries to be there. Opens up to questions in the beginning of class and explains everything well. Pretty difficult exams if you don't pay attention closely, not much homework though. Quizzes were easy and helped a lot.
First of all he is very smart and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to Poli Sci. He has written several books and articles. I found lectures interesting, he can get distracted but he is pretty funny also. Multiple choice tests are hard, but he gave a massive curve, up 2 letter grades from you're raw score.
I really enjoyed this professor. Lectures can be a little boring and hard to engage in but he is really so smart. He is also really funny but barely lets it shine through. Lots of chapter reading each week. Our exams were half MC in class, and half take home free response.
Is very knowledgable about the subject and while the content is boring, lectures aren't so bad. Tests are difficult, however he massively curves. I got a D+ on the first midterm only to be curved to an A-. Offers a ton of extra credit so while it is a really difficult class, the extra credit and curve will literally save you
Prof. Ingram's lectures very rarely stay on topic, and it feels like a lot of the time he just rambles about his political beliefs(which are generally more conservative). He assigns very long and dense readings (including 15 page articles and the U.S. Constitution), which you don't need to read right away but are needed for the written midterms.
tangents are always interesting and made me actually want to come to class (related material to the real world) Lectures recorded(you can always catch up)Thorough review sessions, curves, super intelligent and hilarious professor, no hw other than finals (was honestly a huge plus!) TAKE HIM!! lots of info but he makes it interesting + lots of EC!!!
His lectures consist of him going on tangents and rambling. You won't know what to take notes on. Grades only consist of midterms and finals. Does offer extra credit tho.
This class was terrible. His lectures were all tangents and rants. They're so unorganized and you don't know what to take notes on. His midterms barely had any of the material from the study guides he provides. He also doesn't respond to emails. I struggled so much in this class and as far as I know, so did everyone else. Would not recommend it!
Dr. Ingram is a nice guy and easy to work with, but like some other reviews said, his lectures have a TON of information in them and his tests are really difficult. Lots of reading and study guides are helpful. Be aware for POLS422 that the second half of the class is much more difficult than the first half.
Prof. Ingram is such a sweetheart and a real homie. He genuinely cares about his students and it is clear he has a lot of passion for what he does. His exams are easy and OPENBOOK (just make sure you use the study guide). If you know how to organize yourself this is an easy A class. Curve gets you from a C+ or B to an A easy.
doesn't specify test material, assigns hard readings, and does not explain the material.
Difficult class. Tests are open book but they are the hardest tests I have ever taken and his notes on canvas are disorganized and hard to find. He often goes off on crazy un-related tangents. Has 4 different extremely difficult midterms. Subject matter is interesting, but if you want to take this class take it with a different professor.
Professor Ingram is a genuine guy and I can tell he is very smart and is very knowledgeable with political science. However, his class is extremely disorganized. He goes off topic constantly and gives you way too much information on one slide and skips through them very fast. Tests were very hard but everyone did really bad so he curves.
Lectures are super long and boring. Tests given per every lecture which are 6 questions each w/ 3 attempts. He also assigns a ton of reading. You take 2 mid terms and a final. Each midterm and final has a multiple choice and written portion. Midterms & finals are take home & he gives you a week to do the written portion.
Very good and interesting lecturer. The class is not much work if you have basic common sense. Tests are online and open note, so it is very easy to do well in this class. People stop attending as the year goes on, so as long as you put in a small amount of effort this class won't be a real consideration in your workload.
Professor Ingram is really really nice but simply cannot lecture. He goes off in long tangents that have no correlation to the initial topic and eventually your attention span cannot keep up. Theres 2 midterms and 2 written exams (that are 4 page single spaced), which are not easy because you learn nothing from his lectures. Do NOT recommend.
Take this class if you are interested in the easy credit. You can pass without learning a single thing. Grade is based off of quizzes, two midterms with a mc and written component, discussion posts and a mc final. you don't need the textbook. Although, If you're interested in polisci I wouldn't take this class. It can be lecture heavy and boring.
So. Much. Reading. The exams are all on details within the reading too, so a good grade is impossible unless you have like photographic memory for boring texts.
Professor Ingram is an extremely intelligent man who knows an immense and impressive amount of information on any given topic of history. There are hours of reading and note taking is a necessity for this course, but Ingram offers a large amount of extra credit at the end of the semester that can bump your grade up 2 letters.
Professor Ingram makes his lectures somewhat entertaining at times. There is a lot of reading in this class that exams are based on. The content at times was hard to study. Although exams are online, I would still study for this class.
Ingram is very knowledgable and passionate- he makes his lecture decently interesting. He gives 1-2 quizzes a week, discussion boards, 2 2-part midterms, and 1 final. There is A TON of reading but you can get away with not doing them until you need them for the midterms and finals. If you like poli-sci, this class will be great. Prepare to read.
super sweet guy just a confusing teacher. his text book is lowkey all about him and boring to read and the slide shows are all posted but if you don't go to lecture you won't understand it at all. its just direct quotes from old philosophers that aren't really on the test. none of its actually that hard it was all just kinda frustrating
There is 3 exams total, each including multiple choice and written parts. He always goes off topic and the exams do not relate to lectures at all. Assigns an unreasonable amount of reading. Lectures are in person and also live on zoom, but stopped doing the zoom option because only 5 people were showing up in person.
There is an insane amount of reading, like an impossible amount to read. The exams and homework require you to actually pay attention during lectures because he says many things that are not on the slides. He cares very much for the subject and it shows, as long as you put in some effort, it is not a difficult class. He is a very easy grader.
Its a relatively easy class if you know how to google but just save yourself the time and do another polsci class. Goes on too many tangents to stay in class. Assigns 2 weekly quizzes, 2 midterm and 1 final which are mcq and saq. Super smart but makes urban politics more boring than it already is. Lectures are super heavy and borderline useless.
Great professor and very intelligent man. Lectures were interesting for the first 30 minutes and then would become long tangents. Lots of reading and the exams were hard. If you are a good reader and can retain lots of info you should be good though.
If you aren't interested in government or political science please do not take this class as a GE. Incredibly niche details about the texts are in the exams, and nothing that is spoken about in lectures is tested on, purely quiz questions and trivia. Exams are open notes and multiple choice only. Discussions every week in addition to quizzes.
I took Dr. Ingram for two classes now POL S 101 and POL S 102. He is honestly a very understanding professor and is fair with his grading criteria. Just really make sure to study for his exams and and DO ALL the extra credit for his class. Cuz not gonna lie the extra credit is what saved me at the end. He also curves HEAVY too.
There were a lot of readings, and he was unhinged during lectures, which made them interesting. Overall a nice professor. He curves mid terms and finals so don't do too badly and you'll be fine
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. He makes you read books that he wrote, long discussion boards on them every week plus 2 quizzes, and no there are no answers online. due dates change every week so very hard to keep track of. lectures are so insanely boring. 5 major exams. Take anyone else but him.
No idea what his problem was, but only showed up to class a selective number of times, some of his callouts would say "not feeling like coming to class, sorry" just over an hour before class started. He was weeks behind in material because of weather/protests. However still tested on the missed material, avoid him unless you god forbidding need it.
This guy was so off his material his exam problems were incorrect factually by the book he was testing on. I am unsure if there is any political bias here but he only sees the book in "his vision" because of how politically involved he says he is. He also only showed up a handful of times this semester? We were behind material and still tested it?
Professor Ingram's lectures can get a bit tangential, but if you stay engaged and utilize study resources like unstuckstudy ai, you can do well. Lots of reading, but he curves exams heavily.
Quizzes almost everyday in class and if not they're replaced with written discussions on paper. The quizzes are really easy and are only used as extra credit, not showing up and not doing the quizzes won't hurt your grade. You're allowed to have as many notes and printed out resources for exams. He knows and loves what he's teaching and cares.
Ingram is a knowledgeable, intelligent man. But oh my god, he is a YAPPER. I got a headache after every single class. He will bombard you with so much information you don't even know what you'll have to remember I've taken several POLS classes, yet the information was overwhelming. Definitely do NOT take him for a GE unless you love politics
Very passionate and intelligent professor. He uses lots of lectures and readings but makes insane jokes that get you through it. 20% of the grade is extra credit so despite the hard content youll be fine.
One of the funniest professors I have ever had. Very lecture heavy and the tests are pretty difficult. However, you have quizzes every class that only count towards extra credit so your grade only goes up if you take the quizzes. DO THEM! They can easily boost you up to 2 letter grades. You can also use as many notes as you want on the tests.
I loved Professor Ingram! Attendance is not mandatory but we have scantron quizzes in class every class for extra credit (you can chatgpt all the questions/ he usually gave us the answers) and those 80 points of extra credit every class go a LONG way so I recommend trying not to miss any class so you can score poorly on your midterms/finals.
The biggest fault in this class is that professor Ingram tends to go off on tangents and you really have no idea on what you should be taking notes on. The exams are open note, however trying to answer 75 questions in the regular class time is super challenging. A-lot of the questions are set up to be very tricky and throw you off.
Lecture heavy class and he rambles on a lot, heavy reading. Doesn't answer emails or questions in class one of the worst classes I have taken.
Professor Ingram was a great professor but like a lot of the responses, he is very lecture-heavy and rambles about things that aren't important to the lecture. Attendance isn't mandatory but there are quizzes and discussions every class date which if all done correctly can boost your grade by a ton. Overall really funny and a great guy.
Professor Ingram is a nice man, he talks a lot during his class, lectures can be boring if you aren't interested in the subject. He does daily quiz's but helps with answers, if you miss class you will lose 80 points as that is how much the quiz's are worth (no retakes), they help your grade/count as EC so attend because exams can be challenging.
Really qualified to teach California Politics, and has a lot of experience, but goes on long tangents during the lectures, which can get boring. Attendance is added as bonus points at the end of the semester, bumping up your grade. Tests are open notes and multiple choice.
very good professor, if you pay attention to his lectures you can learn a lot of just general knowledge, about all sorts of things. gives "quizzes" during every lecture but they're just very basic questions throughout the powerpoint that count for attendance and are ec. allows open note midterms and final. overall very good professor.
His grading is strange, but your grade is significantly higher than what shows in Canvas. Attendance acts as "bonus points" in his grading system, but his exams are tough so without going to class, your chances of doing well are slim to none. Overall, would recommend and he is very, very interesting.
none of the homework questions are answered in the lecture, he just expects you to know things he never mentioned. like genuinely you'd think the questions are for a completely different course because all he does all class is go on tangents about irrelevant information.
Class is super boring and attendance is mandatory because of in-class quizzes. Tests are hard, even though they're open note, and he expects you to know things he never mentions. He often goes on random rants that don't relate to the material. Not an easy class.
If you are interested in political science, he's very educated! I'm sure he is great for somebody interested in POLS, but I attended for a GE. 2 quizzes every week, either scantron or online (mostly been online right now). Midterms consist of multiple choice, and then written. Difficult for me, maybe not for future students. Talks a lot, but funny.
I never understood any of his lectures, you will not learn have to do it by your own. However the way that he grades things points-wise is nice and will help your grades. He is nice but..
2 midterms with a written and mc part. LECTURE HEAVY quizzes twice a week
DO NOT take his class if you want to do well. His lectures go off-topic CONSTANTLY, he gives NO clear way to study, and his midterms include super niche material he mentioned MAYBE once. You can study for hours and still fail. He's niceish in person, but the class is genuinely terrible. I could NOT advise against this class more.
He's silly and does go on a lot of rants, he makes connections to movies and other points in history that connect to your lecture, the midterms are hard and split up between 2 days and he does give a study guide but it tends to not be clear. His grading style is a but weird but at the end of the semester he does give you a lot of extra credit.
Knows more about Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton than actual polysci concepts. Tests have nothing to do with lectures.
I see a mixed reviews about Ingram, but I took his class this semester and he is the best professor I've had. Easy midterms, lectures and quizzes. He is super flexible and sweet. Take this class!! You will do well if you put in effort. This was my easiest class I have taken. He genuinely cares and is super funny. He also wants you to do well!!
while dr ingram is super sweet and understanding, this class was very difficult. there are two midterms and a final with the most hyper specific questions that were never mentioned. he does curve them but without the curve the average was below a 50 (and that's with them being open note). he goes off topic a lot and gets through very few slides.
Really nice guy but not great at teaching content, just goes on tangents about random things not related to the tests.
Prof Ingram is great! His lectures are very hard to follow but his quizzes and review sessions are very helpful for studying/preparing for exams. He's also very kind and accommodating.
He's obviously knowledgeable and passionate about all things politics, but he does tend to go on these long tangents. I don't think my class ever got through a full lecture presentation. If you're into politics, go for it. If you're not, maybe re-think which professor to take. He provides study guides, lots of extra credit, and curves each exam.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU WANT TO DO POORLY. I WISH people on this rate my professor would stop lying. His midterms and final are made as if this isn't an introductory course/ level 100 but rather as if this is a 400 level class. I watched over 5 hours of review, 45+ pages of notes and still didn't do good. BE WARE.
This is not a class I would recommend slacking on. Two midterms and a Final. He takes attendance by having bi-weekly quizzes that cover the material learned in class that day. Attend the lectures, review the final materials, and study, study, study! Overall, Ingram is a nice man who you can always talk to for advice.
