Dr. Jackson is the greatest teacher! He is so great and he keeps the class going. He makes class fun and likes to involve the students as much as possible! I'd def. recomend taking his General Psychology class! He's great!
He's a great teacher. He doesn't make the class boring, he always has something interesting planned. And the greatest part he usually lets us out early.....I def recommend taking his course.
i had his class at 8 am and i dont think i would have came that much if it wasn't for him...he is really funny and keeps you awake...definitely take him!

He is an awesome teacher.Makes the class very intersting and easy to pay attention to!I would recommend taking him he is very clear on info that will be on tests and goes over things in class to make everything clear. It will be a fun class if u take him!
Tests are long, but easy, mostly common sense. He is an entertaining teacher and makes the material fun to learn, i would recommend taking him.
makes the class really fun and interesting. he is also a very funny man
very funny man, accomidates well for his students (he noticed we all did horrible on the essay part of the test, so for the rest of the year no essays on tests ever). he is THE MAN!
he is a great teacher. there is alot of information on his tests, so you do really need to study. but he is a great teacher and very willing to help
do not take him for child psych. Take Kleissler. He spends classtime on movies and doesn't even really go over what is going to be on the test. The tests are 3 chapters long, and it's all multiple choice, so you have to REALLY know what is in the chapters
good at first with lectures, then stopped lecturing, just played videos and didnt use the full class time.tests are easy if you just study the book(he made us buy another book he never EVER used in any way)so just know the book and only the book
The Only book you need to buy is the study guide. Seriously, I bought the 3 books, which the main book was $91 and I got $17 back for all 3..ridiculous and you don't even use the Annual which he makes you buy. None of it is on the test! Good Man though.
so funny! tests were difficult, so studying is a must, but its mostly all from the guide book which makes studying easier. i had this at 8am and he made it worth coming to school that early. very nice guy
this guy is the****!! he has respect for the students and knows how to talk to us. his tests are straight outta the book. read the chapters and ull do fine.
He was soo cool, and related to his students, gave great examples to get you understanding what psychology is all about, however, his tests were hard u really have to study for them
hes a good teacher, make class enjoyable, and is funny...tests are challenging but if you read the book youll do okay.
Really cool guy but his tests are REALLY hard! U think multiple choice would be easy but his are ridiculious!
the best class i have taken at KU. he makes it very interesting and easy to understand. a really nice guy. not too hard as long as you go to class and read in the book
He was always late and missed quite a few classes, but a good teacher. Only got graded on tests but they weren't too terribly hard
His lecture is the best but you have to read the book. He doesnt cover everything in class thats on the tests. Review sheets make it a lot easier but you HAVE to read the book. he moves pretty fast in lecture so just keep up. i love him as a a professor
nice guy....worst tests..soo..hard to pass. prepare to study for weeks if u want an A
His tests are ridiculously hard. He doesnt go over everything b/c he usually gets off-track and is late to class frequently. You have to read the unbelievably long chapters & study so much or you wont pass his tests. The only grades for the class are 5 tests.
interesting, funny. Tests are hard...but easier than i heard other gen psych's were. Doesn't cover alot, but offers extra credit, reveiw sessions, and reveiw sheets. READ THE BOOK!
just read the book and pay attention to the lectures. He puts outlines online and there are review sessions which are kind of helpful.
This man is very funny, and makes class worth going to, test are alittle challenging, but if u read the book, and study you will do ok. I would take his class again He makes it enjoyable!!
For this course the book is more than necessary; his exams come straight from it. He provides outlines which go right along with the book. His lectures do not pertain to the exams but his examples might help you to understand the material better. He is a funny guy and very down to earth. Will answer any questions you might have.
If you read the book you will do good. If you don't read the book you will do horrible. About 5 hours of studying before the test will be enough to get you at least a B. He gives you an outline of everything you need to know. Going to class is useless. Bottom line, if you don't like reading textbooks, then do not take this class.
what an awesome prof. going to class isn't exactly necessary, but he gives great examples and clarifies the confusing issues. READ THE BOOK AND USE THE ONLINE STUDY GUIDES! those are your saving grace. gives an outline of most important things on test and all tests are multiple choice 100%. highly recommend taking him. funny as hell.
Hilarious, very personable and outgoing; class is a lot of fun (but I don't recommend the once-a-week lecture; too much info to try & retain). Put your studying shoes on; in order to do well, you need to practically memorize the text. That being said, you do learn a lot and his class is one of the most positive environments @ KU. Recommended!
Awsome professor, he is funny, and really knows what he is talking about. His tests are hard if you don't study or read the book. He posts an outline and study guide for each test. However don't expect to get your grade in a timely manner, it could take up to 3 weeks. He is the best psych prof on campus. He likes expensive sports cars.
great guy! funny, interesting, very helpful. i liked him alot!! However, its pretty pointless to go to the class, his tests are straight out of the book. therefore, read the book, do the reviews, you'll do fine.
One of the funniest and nicest professors you could possibly have.. BUT his tests are really hard and you absolutely have to read the book to do well. Going to class is pointless, nothing he teaches is on the exams, study sessions help to an extent, but one on one study sessions help more. You only have 5 grades, but you get extra credit.
dr. jackson is an awesome prof. he relates psych to real life and is really funny. he sings too! posts outlines on blackboard, tests can be challenging, but pay attention in class and read the book and you'll get at least a B. always willing to help, very personable. recommended if you are interested in learning and actually understanding psych
He is really funny and really cool. I thought his tests were too hard and I thought he should have made it more clear what he would test on.
I had him for a 3 hour night class and he still kept it interesting he is really attentive to students needs during class but be warned HIS TESTS ARE HARD but if ur a good test taker definatly take him!!!
Dr. Jackson, is great Not to mention Hilarious!I loved this class! He gives study guides for all of his tests and as long as you study your will do well!
Class is filled with bad jokes and forced laughter, got it, got it. He leaves out random words in his sentences then expects you to fill in the blank, I cant read your mind buddy just finish the damn sentence! He drones on with useless powerpoint slides from which there is no information on the test, got it, got it. It's all about the book, got it.
This class was really tricky to some people, but Dr. Jackson really explains things. He likes you to go during his office hours to see your tests and he talks with you about how to improve. The graduate assistants have review sessions...GO TO THEM.
Take someone else. Anyone else.
Awsome Professor, his tests are a little tough but if you attend class and read the notes he offers you should have no problem receiving a high C on tests. If you read the chapters and go to review sessions then an A is definately possible. He also offers many extra credit oportunites that can raise your grade. Great class environment
Tests are tricky, and all multiple choice. He's a great teacher and really knows his material. He tries to give a lot of extra credit opportunities, but he doesn't curve tests, so be warned.
He is a GREAT professor..he makes the class very interesting and hes down to earth. He is soo funny too! I remember the first day of class he said "Ohh Freshmans wow i remember that year i got in LOTS of trouble at parties..ENJOY" haha hes soo great you have to take him you will really enjoy it bc i didnt want to take the class but he made it fun!
Great teacher really knows his stuff, but you MUST go to class each time or you will be so lost. Very hard teacher but will help you out. Must be able to do a lot of work on your own!!!
He's a really cool professor...i was NEVER in class and i passed! If you dont go to class, just make sure you read/study the end summaries in the book and do the extra credit that he gives out cuz he gives out a good amount! Really nice guy, i would take him again for another psych class
Very nice guy, and always tries to get his students involved in discussion. Always asks if everyone is on the same page and will explain anything you're confused about. Good sense of humor, too.
this is the second class that I've had with him and I so want to take him again for like a billion more classes! seriously, his tests can be hard, but failing his class is NOT easy. he's such a great guy and all the pysch majors that have had him (that I've talked to) love him! text book is necessary. get ready to have a great time in class!
Dr. Jackson is prolly one of the best professors at KU. I had him last semester for Gen. Psych and decided to take him again this semester for Child Psych. He lectures a lot but makes it fun. He doesnt use the book, but you have to use it to study from. He gives a lot of extra credit too andhe doesnt mind if you dont come to class! take him!!
Prof. Jackson is such a good guy. Really understanding, tests are easy just do the online tests, offers lots of extra credit, and doesn't grade on attendance. If I could take him again I would in a heartbeat. One of my fav. prof. at ku! def. recommend!!!
Great Guy Awesome Extra Credit Oppurtunities Reccomend This Professor
The class isn't to bad. He puts outlines online to print out before class, but it is good to read the text too. He gives you a lot of opportunity for extra credit, good guy and a good sense of humor. He is never on time but usually there with 5-10 min! Overall a great guy!
His assistant T.W. should get his check.--- Shake your head.
Bottom line, I would never take him again. I had so many problems with him. You have a lot of reading, I barely got any extra credit oppertunties when I had him and his tests were extremely hard.
He's an extremely intelligent man and you can tell that he is very competant as a psychologist. I have learned a lot in his class. His tests are unbelievably hard. THis stuff is my life and i can only pull off high b's. He does give extra credit. I would recommend taking him if you have a passion for psyche. Very funny likable guy. Will take again.
He makes it fun, but his tests are extremely hard...no matter how much you study.
awesome prof i had him for cog psych n he made it interesting
yes he is a great guy. he is very funny and easy to talk to BUT i would not take the class. The hole thing about being hard and fair is BS! yes it is hard but fair HAH.. i would think long and hard b4 u take this course...
Dr. Jackson is a funny guy. The class was long and kinda boring because it is just a lecture hall. Just read the textbook outside of class and try and pay attention during class. There are four tests that are kinda hard. But just do your best
terrible, I can honestly say that I have not learned a single thing in there. Lectures do not serve a purpose since they do not correspond well with info in the book and on the test. Book is very expensive, not even bound, and takes forever to read. Studied 14+ hours for the final and got a 67. Only redeeming quality is he offers a curve, somewhat
He's really nice and he loves class participation. i never went to class- he bases the tests on the book. although class is fun and interesting you really dont have to go. although if ur a psych major and want letters of refrence- it would be a good idea to go and get on his good side.
I had him for General Psychology. His tests are hard + he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities that will def boost your grade. Go to the tutoring sessions they tell you about the questions that'll be in the test. You need the Book. Take him and you won't regret it. Got 76 average on all tests after the Extra Credits I got an A. I recommend him.
he wrote his own textbook. how self-serving is that? he frequently tries to pack too much into his exam chunks and will tell you "i know we never finished the chapter but... the exam's still on monday. you'll just have to finish it on your own." anything to keep him from actually doing work and/or accommodating his students. funny, but sucky prof.
He talked about being black the whole time, it's not a black history class! You have to go online to do things and he doesn't post them half ot the time, he is so disorganized. It makes me sick we had to buy the book that he wrote and you can't even sell it back because the code inside is used to do your online work can only use it once. Waste of$
This guy is an **** a complete jerk. I took the class and dropped it in the first month. His expectations are rediculous for an intro class, and is unwilling to help, makes you purchas $200 that now im stuck with cos bookstore not buying back!. This guy is a typical Mulingnan always has an attitude and on a super power trip! Do not take!
WOW! He is an abstract thinker. Hes hard as h*ll but offers little extra credit. His classroom time is a waste. THe class doesnt cover test material. He assigns online work that takes days (literally) to do. You have to take 4 "pre-test" prior to each test. You have to watch videos and write essays. His tests are confusing.
He is a great professor and his lectures are very interesting. His class is hard and requires a lot of work, but if you do your work he is very helpful. I got an A in his Child Psych class. :)
i couldn't believe him. i was so excited about taking this class and now after having him as a professor i never want to do anything that deals with psychology in class. yes, all he does is talk about being black. for one of psych assignments we had to go to a presentation of a black man who succeeded in life and read his poems? test=HORRIBLE!
He warns you the first day that there is a lot of work in his class and it's the truth. 100 question pretests that are worth practically nothing. And impossible tests. Disorganized and self-centered. Be careful if you take him because it will feel like your taking two classes because of the workload.
He's extremely hard but gives you fair warning on your first day of class. Class can be very interesting if you are willing to put in the work. The chapter readings are ridiculously long and you have to read in order to do well. Study buddies is the best way to go. If you don't have a lot of time to spear maybe you should try another prof.
Hes an ok guy. VERY disorganized-you basically have to teach yourself the material since all you do in class is watch videos. Tests are hard & you really don't have a clue as to what to study. Books are expensive & he used this addtional online program that was a joke. I managed an A somehow, but it wasn't easy....Take either one of the Akillas'!!!
He is a nice guy, but tests are extremely hard. It is pointless to go to class. Nothing in his lecture are on his tests. No curve. 5 tests 2 extra credit assignments.
BAD. I LOVED psychology and I love kids. So I thought, gee child psych, that'll be great. Definately not. He is a nice guy, but he seriously pulls the questions on the test out of nowhere. I have no clue what he's talking about in class. NO reason to go. VERY disappointing. And he really does not care about the entire classes grades.
Great guy, but extremely hard class. You have to read the book in depth and its a ton of information. His tests are ridiculously hard, but our class had a tutor session before every test, and it helped A LOT so i highly recommend it.
he is horrible and don't bother going to his office for help because he doesn't or to discuss your grades because he does not give you any slack on them and it stinks!!!!!! HE DOES NOT HELP AND CAN'T TEACH!!!
You need the book...do the questions in the book do his reviews and do the online test and u will get an a
Only other annoying people like him. I want to kill myself when I go to his class. Hes a proud black man...so annoying.
Need the book for this class and it is very expensive. Sometimes gets facts wrong. Tests are not bad if you study the material. Funny guy
I got an "A" in his class and I literally went maybe 5 times. The questions are straight from practice quizzes so memorize them. He obviously favored the minorities in the class, and never really answered anyone's questions and usually just confused everyone more. His sense of humor is annoying, but a lot of people enjoy it.
Dr. Jackson plays mind games with his students. He'll tell you at the beginning of the semester not to bombard him with stupid questions but then he'll be vague and he'll leave info out of things he says, FORCING you to ask stupid questions. Then he'll scoff at you when you do.
VERY DISAPPOINTED! i was so excited to take this course and i did not understand anything, nothing was clear i went to study sessions read the chapters used the textbook website and i just barely passed with a low to mid C this is a genreal pysch course but it was not taught like it at all everyone was confused
Dr. Jackson was a very good teacher and a funny guy. I found him very helpful and i found his class to be partly challenging. He takes questions straight from the quiz questions and make sure you read the book. Also he is a big Oakland Raiders so you can use that to get on his good side. Attendance is good for some extra credit point opportunities.
Jackson is a funny guy, but he sucks. I havent missed one lecture and not a single thing he says, nor any of his powerpoints are ever on the tests. he thinks he does you favors... he doesn't at all. I would avoid him!!
AVOID HIM. I have never skipped a class and I take very good notes but it is all useless..nothing that happens in class is relevant to the exams. I relied on the book to get through the class..the exams were open book but still tricky..he thinks he is funny and he is not. I thought he was very cocky. I would avoid him if at all possible.
He talks down to his students constantly. Nothing he does in class is on his tests. He plays youtube videos and 20/20 specials that are several years old. His tests are designed to trick you, not test your knowledge. I got a 73% on the final, and the class average was 50.9%. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
horrible teacher. Doesnt know how to teach. class average was a 60 & he lied to our class telling us he would "throw some questions out" from the first 2 tests, since everyone got them wrong.. i wonder why.. said it will be done by the end of semester so i stayed in his class, he never did it lied to us when i asked him about it he never responded
I had an amazing time in this class, and think that he is a wonderful professor. the tests are very difficult, but its cog psyc... what isnt difficult? do the readings, take your time on the essays, put the work in and it will pay off. definitely recommend.
I recieve above a 3.0 every semester, but not this time because of this guy. He is the worst prof ive ever had! He doesnt care, doesnt help you, the exam questions are random sentences from the chapters and I asked him for study tips, his response, "memorize the book" yea ok... and he laughed in my face during a lecture. He is impossible.
this class was a bad joke. All of the tests were pulled straight from the book, three were open book and the lectures were useless The biggest crime was that due to the high average in the class, he deliberately made the final extra hard to lower the class average to save his own butt.if you have a class with him next semester drop it immediately
This class was awful. I attended every class but 2 and I did no better than the kids who never went to class. His exams are insanely difficult, nothing from lecture is on the exams, basically going to class is a joke. this class dropped my GPA a lot..trust me, if you have him at any point, DROP THE CLASS! you'll be happy you did!
This man is probably one of the worst professors I have had at KU. Going to class is pointless, because nothing from lecture is on the tests. All of the tests are word for word from the book. 3 of the 5 tests were open book, so he made the final impossible. I've always been a good student, and I got a D in the class because he's a terrible prof.
Overall he was a good teacher. The only thing is that you need to have the text book to pass the class because most of his tests are online and most of the questions are straight from the book. He does keep you interested in class which is a good thing.
Psych is my major and I love it but I would have never taken this class with him if I'd known about his teaching style. Lectures are mandatory but not on the test at all and he shows an alarming amount of movies for a 300 level class. The tests are nearly impossible even online and open book. Don't take this with him unless you have to.
He is awesome!
This professor seems to be a hit or miss with most students. For me, I think he is pretty easy and very funny. His tests are all open note and on D2L, and every single question comes straight from the book. However, the lectures where all we watch are movies get pointless and boring.
I actually like the class. Textbook is mandatory since the test are all online and questions come from it. Attendance is mandatory if you want to the participation points. Yeah, you watch videos but they are actually quite interesting. If you do the small assignments, read and study the material, pass the tests you will be alright.
He is awesome! You have to read the book and study for exams (which might be online sometimes and you can use your notes and book. He is very funny in class and explains concepts clearly. I love him
I had this class online over the winter break. I definitely recommend it! He gave everyone until 11:55pm on the last possible day of the semester to turn in work! He was friendly and easy to reach through e-mail. Easy A. TAKE HIM :)
At the beginning of the semester he told us we would leave with skills but I don't know what was going on in that class. He wasn't helpful and expected you to just know what was going on. You have to read the book. All tests were online but they were still impossible to pass. Lectures were mandatory but useless to go to.
This class is an easy class to take and pass, if you have no intrest in Psych. Otherwise he does not teach. You watch films everyday and then when the test comes you have no notes. All exams are online. If you are willing to actually learn something, do no take him.
Dr. Jackson may actually the most useless professor I have ever met. His teaching is eratic and his lectures and ppts have nothing to do with tests. I have retained nothing about Psychology and I love to learn. You learn nothing, and the tests are long word searches to find in the textbook. Took an interesting subject and made it boring + horrible.
He is a very funny professor. He doesn't jump out of his way to aid students but if needed, he will answer any questions. Sometimes his lectures drag but he usually makes them interesting. BEWARE of tests because although they are online, even with the book and notes they are extremely difficult.
Test are extremely difficult. The time limit to amount of question ratio is absurd. The entire test is a word hunt through several chapters of the book. None of the material taught in class is on the test. Shows way too many videos and is overall a terrible professor. I highly recommend not to take this class.
Had him for History and Systems. Had a big presentation & also a long paper on a different topic he chose. As long as you cover the questions he wants answered and you go the length of time, you'll get an A. Same with the paper. Exams are hard if you don't read the chapters. 300 lvl class, so don't be lazy. Fun class overall.
No matter how many classes you attend and how well you pay attention, the tests will be near impossible. It's pretty much just a free for all choose the answer that seems the best. Class has nothing to do with tests, and the clickers almost never work so why even bother going. I wouldn't chose him. Also he was rude when I went to him for help.
I had him for History and Systems the tests are EXTREMELY difficult even with reading the chapters and taking notes on them My class had a 25 to 30 min presentation which wasn't to bad if you actually tried He gives extra credit on his request Each class was someone presenting, he never taught.
Lectures were horrible, all we did was watch movies that had nothing to do with the material on the exams. takes attendance everyday. Exam questions are 100% out of the book but the questions are so complicated you cannot find them. Learned nothing from his class.
Dr. Jackson is the best professor I've had to Kutztown. His lectures are just fantastic and he is so kind. He gives a set grading scale at the beginning of the semester. Your grade depends on how many points you earn. He gives extensive amounts of opportunities for basically "free" points. Very easy to earn a B. Do all your work and get an A.
Would not take a class with him again. Says one thing, then doessays the opposite. Things he said would be on the exam weren't, things he said wouldn't be on the exam were. Exams are online but timed 50 minutes for 75+ questions. Half the time he would be ridiculously late to class and then just have us watch a video instead of teaching.
Jackson was by far my favorite prof fresh year. He opened my brain up and got me thinking so much more about how our brains work and that really left an impact on me. The only thing is that his exams are online and they're very long and difficult, and make sure your iclicker is working bc attendance is weighed heavily. TAKE HIM he changed my life.
Dr. Jackson is awesome! His lectures are very interesting and he keeps people engaged, even in a lecture hall. He takes attendance every day. You have to read the book and take notes. As long as you take good notes, you will do great on the tests. I would recommend taking his class.
His lectures don't help on the test and are sporadic. Apparently he was trying to get our class excited for psychology but instead he just frustrated me. he has a big ego and is never straightforward. I am not a fan.
he's a great professor, and I can really relate to what he teaches!
Honestly, just read the book. The test are tough but they're online and he gives you plenty of time. You DO need the online access code and the clicker, both of which are essential to your grade. Overall he is a great professor, and is there to help you. The lectures don't necessarily contain test material, but they are vital to understanding.
Jackson was a really good lecturer. The lectures have nothing to do with the exams, but definitely show the more interesting parts of the material. He allows 3 class skips a month and there is no homework, no quizzes, and only 4 open book, at home exams. If you do the exam reviews from the book that are online you will do great!
Dr. Jackson is awesome, he knows what he's talking about and is really funny. Attendance is mandatory, but you won't regret going, every class is fascinating. His tests are tough but they're online and you get PLENTY of time
All tests are online and taken over the weekend. Definitely have a book to pass.
The BEST teacher I have ever had. He's very knowledgable in his field and he also uses wonderful examples that allows you to truly understand the content of his lectures.
Dr. Jackson is an amazing teacher. His lectures aren't boring and he makes you laugh too! All the tests are online and open book. No homework. He grades for attendance every class with a clicker, so don't forget it! Dr. Jackson is also a really nice and caring person. When it was nice outside he would take the whole class outside and teach!
His classes are fun to attend however, his tests are difficult. Most of the test questions are out of the book which are hard to find and usually don't learn in class. Some of the questions have nothing to do with psychology.
Going to lecture is useless because nothing from lecture is on the exam. All the exams are online but he may give them in class. Always worried about covering his butt so he has a rather extensive syllabus. Attendance counts but you just have meet the average for the class & buy a clicker for it. Definitely do not waste your time with him.
funny, nice guy. knows what hes talking about. the tests are impossible and while you can take them outside of class he makes them near impossible, and nothing that youve learned
Dr. Jackson is a very cool professor. His tests are very difficult, but you are able to get extra credit in other areas to balance it out. Tests are open notes (not book). As long as you go to class, do the extra credit, do lab credits, and do fairly decent (55-75%) on tests, you'll do fine. His lectures aren't notes on a PPT which can be tough
If you have to take an intro to psych class this is the professor to take. I have zero interest in psychology and managed to get an A easily. The tests are online and lectures aren't bad (he usually shows a movie or something). He offers tons of extra credit and takes attendance using an iclicker. He claims you need the textbook but I didnt use it.
I did not learn one thing in this class. The tests are not based on lectures, and his clicker system for attendance was awful. It didn't work half the time. DO NOT take him.
Dr. Jackson was absolutely wonderful! Even though I had him for an online class he was still able to help me through answering all my emails. I took other Psych classes before but he is the first one that I enjoyed doing the work and he is one that cares about all his students if you do the work!! I highly suggest taking him!
Test are open notes (need to be hand written) and have a lot of random facts from the book. Lots of videos in this class so he doesn't lecture much but when he does they are enjoyable. Attendance is taken with the iClicker but he will work with you at his office if your isn't working. Gives opportunity for extra credit (almost worth a whole exam)
Class was extremely difficult and there were not many grades.
Dr. Jackson is really awesome. He's funny and kept the class engaged. Kinda hard to take notes, but if you read the textbook you'll be fine. Need a clicker for attendance. A lot of the time he ends class early.
Very professional, makes you work for your grade. Tests are based on the book, not lectures, so must buy the book. All tests are online with lockdown browser and webcam monitoring including final. Wants you to learn the skill of speaking like a professional researcher. The lecture never matches up with what is in the syllabus. 8am class as well.
Dr. Jackson is a professor who wants his students to succeed. He goes above and beyond to offer help and to be sure that students have access to extra help. He is always fair and more than willing to compromise or accommodate the needs of his students while still pushing them to get the best of the experience and promoting individual thought.
Lecture heavy, but he always had something interesting to say or an interesting story to tell. Was not very lenient with attendance. Clickers used every class. Tests are fine if you read the text and they are open book and open note. Syllabus was not followed/ not accurate.
Dr. Jackson is very helpful , he wants all his students to succeed. He is one of this professors that goes above and beyond for his students. He is always extending assignments to help students out which I believe is very helpful. He understands that outside of the classroom we do have our individual lives. Ask questions if need be he will help
Such a great professor. Definitely take him,his tests are challenging but they are online and as long as you read the textbook you will pass. Makes his class fun and engaging, not a boring lecture.
Dr. Jackson was a pretty typical professor, nothing outstanding. His tests are all online and only take information from the textbook so you must read it and take handwritten notes to pass those, meaning his lectures are pretty much useless but mandatory. He does offer 45 points of extra credit which is amazing if you are not the best test taker
His tests are based solely off the book, but you're allowed to use any resources you'd like on them. His way or no way, which can be good, but is not lenient for attendance. Tells you that you will most likely finish with a C which proves him to not be very good at teaching the subject.
Dr. Jackson is a very personable guy. His lectures are engaging and interesting but his tests are very difficult. However, you have other points like attendance, labs and extra credit to boost your grade.
Dr. Jackson is an overall good person. But as a professor he gives you no time to breathe. I have had 2 classes with him. I get the most stressed from his classes. All the work from his classes literally activate my chronic migraines. In class he is fun and easy to talk to. But now with COVID-19 I just feel like I have endless piles of work to do.
Best Psychology Professor at Kutztown University. He has interactive lectures and tries to keep the class entertaining while teaching. Hes funny and will always come to class with energy. Gives little homework but you need to pay attention for when you take the tests. All around great professor and typically provides an extra credit opportunity.
The best psychology teacher I have had at KU. I wish I could have him for every psy class. Hes smart, funny, and gives you everything you need to know to pass. His classes are never boring and as long as you pay attention and take notes you should do just fine. He almost always gives poems for extra credit.
This class, while a little difficult, was one of the classes that I enjoyed most because of Professor James Jackson. He is very helpful and is always there to lend an ear. He was also my advisor and he always made a point to make sure I had everything I needed and I was on the right track.
Has a great personality, very knowledgeable, and a man of his word. However, hes not a good professor for you if you would like to be able to communicate back and forth. He doesnt grade anything in a timely manner. Dont think about emailing him, itll be a waste of time. Ask another professor for help cause thats what hell tell you anyway.
Lectures were watching videos that are difficult to follow, the rest of the learning is done on your own. Assigns a lot of papers early on which are difficult to do because you have to learn about the concepts on your own first. Tests aren't too bad online, but if in-person they'd be impossible. Not good at all with communication outside of class.
WORST prof I have ever had. Does not take anyone or anything into consideration, expects students who take his class to already know the material. EXTREMELY rude when someone asks a question during class and he doesn't even anwser the question. His grading is horrible and he does not give feedback. Lectures EVERY SINGLE CLASS so be prepared.
All I have to say is RUDE! I'm not sure if its because this class was online or what, but he relied very much on the book to teach us. He got very angry when students would ask questions and make you come to his office hours. He also expects you as a freshman to know most of the material already. The class was not enjoyable at all!
Dr. Jackson is okay- he just kind of reminded me of my dad and not in a good way lol. Other than that he's a good person, and his class is REALLY easy (coming from a junior). You have literally 3 discussion posts, 3 short essay questions, and 3 exams. And you have all semester to do them. All Pearson work is 100% OPTIONAL. Which I. loved.
I went into this class loving psychology and now I never want to take a class again. Dr. Jackson is late to grading, will not talk over email and he doesn't seem to care about his students. Reads over a powerpoint to teach and hard exams. Don't take this class unless you want to cry every night :)
Very rude interrupted me multiple times with an attitude in class. He makes you come to office hours about ANY questions. He rolls his eyes when he is annoyed. This class had 2 major assignments, both of them I got horrible grades and he said "this had potential", when I spent hours on it. Would NEVER take again. He is the rudest prof at KU.
Attendance is mandatory, but you aren't even tested on the material we learn in class. If you don't read the textbook you won't pass the class. Let's not forget the time he decided to cancel class five minutes after the class already was supposed to start.
LOVED this class, I had a few professors who made me dread psych but with Jackson there's never a dull moment
Must by $50 clicker for attendence. Awesome prof. Charismatic, funny and engaging. Like a big toddler but in the best way lol. Tests rely heavily on book content but are open note. Sometimes switches slides quickly but a great teacher with great examples. Doesn't like email, prefers office hours. 10/10 recommend. Easy A
Grading based on 4 exams, 2 writing assignments, attendance, and the final. Attendance is mandatory or you wont get full points. Easy A is you complete the assignments and read the book. Exams were all taken online. Most lectures consisted of watching videos related to the material covered in the chapters.
You get a lot of points for just showing up to the class. We never had homework and the tests werent very hard. The lectures went by pretty fast, we basically just watched videos a lot of the time. It was an interesting class and it was very easy, however I dont feel like I learned very much from this class.
Graded mostly by exams but they are online and open note! Great lectures and a funny guy. I wasn't too sure about him at first, but he grew on me. Only downfall is if you want to talk to him, you'll most likely have to see him during office hours. Attendance matters. I recommend him for History and Systems!
Jackson always has early classes which was terrible for me, but overall it wasn't bad just a lot of info for 8am in the morning! He is a teacher you either hate or love!
Seems like a great guy outside of class, but when in class I can't really tell. He is very wishy washy and mixes up classes a lot and is also very confusing, but gets mad at you if you're confused. He seems like he means well but then it feels like the exact opposite. I don't really know how to feel about him.
Was a difficult grader. Stopped taking attendance halfway through the semester, even though it is mandatory. Would not fully answer questions about exams, and what was on them. Would delete emails if they did not seem important, and told us that, clearly was not great at answering emails.
Jackson is a hard grader, and he takes his job seriously. I wish he would go more in depth in the lectures because many times we will only have class for 30 minutes and then leave and he wouldn't go over anything important. Reading the book is very important. Overall, he's not a bad professor, but he could do better with his lectures and notes.
everything grade wise is online based such as the exams and the few written assignments, but due to that nature the class feels like your grade is more so handed to you rather than earned. Don't take if you want to remember anything from the class itself, you'd be better off just reading the class's book in your own time in order to learn anything.
PARTICIPATION GETS YOU EXTRA CREDIT EVEN IF YOU THINK ITS WEIRD OR DUMB DO WHAT HE SAYS TO A T. He's a really great guy, honestly. If you say something he likes or thinks is funny or even just talk at all during lecture you will get extra credit.
Required us to buy a $50 clicker and an expensive online textbook. He took attendance at the beginning of the semester, but the last 3 weeks he refused to take attendance. Made students complete the exams on weekends (the only positive was they were online) but then used lockdown browser anyways. Lectures were always long and plain.
I think he's a great lecturer, really he's funny and like very interactive. the work is difficult at times and a bit much and the iclicker is annoying but overall okay.
You do not have to go to his class to pass, and he offered credit for participation.
I love Dr. Jackson. I have been taking his classes for the last two semesters. Attendance is not mandatory, and all of his tests are mainly open book. The only time coming to class is mandatory is when tests are given in person. He is a very lenient professor. I highly recommend taking his classes because you are guaranteed to pass.
Dr. Jackson is a great professor! So many chances to receive extra credit, even though attendance is not mandatory...COME! He knows his stuff and makes lectures fun! He also cares about his students and really want to see you succeed. I have had Dr. Jackson multiple times and each time I enjoy the class overall.
Dr. Jackson is a cool professor. I would recommend taking his class. He gives out a lot of extra credit, especially if you are not a good test taker. You will be guaranteed a passing grade. He encourages you to do your best no matter what.
Dr. Jackson is a great professor! So many chances to receive extra credit, even though attendance is not mandatory...COME! He's a morning person and tries his best to make lectures fun for non-morning people. He also cares about his students and really wants to see you succeed. Dr Jackson makes it VERY hard to fail his class. 10/10 recommend!
Jackson's Course: Read the text book (he will not lecture). He shows videos all class long instead of teaching. The only grades are your exams. Extra credit involves memorizing poems (nothing related to psychology). Overall it was awful. As my only experience with Jackson, I'm left with no new knowledge from a man who refused to actually teach.
Worst professor I've ever had. No exaggeration, he will not lecture on relevant materials. He will play videos all class long instead of lecturing or teaching you anything. Exams are solely based on the text. The class was not hard, however, he is the worst teacher I have ever had the misfortune of having. Can't teach, won't explain grades.
The lectures are so irrelevant to the exams; they are a waste of time. He doesn't teach much, mostly just puts videos on that you don't learn anything from. Exams are open book yet still challenging. You can memorize and recite poems for extra credit. He doesn't seem like he wants to teach.
Dr. Jackson is a great prof! He is very caring about his students once he gets to know you. Lectures don't pertain to material, but it is interesting and relevant. Easy to pass b/c lots of extra credit opportunities, especially if you go to class. Tough exterior, but he is really a great guy with lots of knowledge!
his class is very manageable, but be ready to read a lot. Each exam typically covered 3 chapters, and the chapters are very lengthy. However, the exams are in person, but online and you are able to use your notes. I tried to skim over the chapters and most exams i got a b+ or A-. He did not give many points besides tests, but offers extra credit.
Presents a lot of TED talks and videos to teach the building blocks of information but he will only really go over the important stuff if you specifically ask him. His outlines were extremely helpful to read over before exams and I used those considering all the tests were open note. Don't bother taking notes in class, they're very vague.
Exams are open notes, and he is not strict about attendance (but sometimes he will do a random attendance check). I enjoy listening to his lectures, and he is good at keeping the class engaged. As long as you do the work and study enough to know what the basics of the chapters are on an exam, this class will be pretty easy.
Child Psychology with Dr. Jackson has overall been a positive experience. However, he doesn't teach much in class. As a result, you will have to spend some free time studying for exams. Exams will be easy if you study well. I recommend studying ahead of time as there is a lot of information. He's a great guy, just wish he taught a bit more.
dr jackson has an interesting way of teaching. his exams come straight from the textbook, so his lectures tend to have nothing to do with exam material. heavily reliant on TED talks and outside sources for teaching, feels like he doesn't teach himself. also made distasteful comments about children and spouses? kinda rubbed me the wrong way...
If you're interested in psychology you'll enjoy his lectures, but otherwise you'll just feel like you're wasting time since nothing he lectures on appears in the tests. he's funny and keeps you awake at 8am. doesn't provide good feedback on assignments and doesn't accept late work. do the extra credit poems! i regret not doing them ahead of time.
His lectures aren't relevant to the tests except in the general sense, he's nice but he tends to rant a bit, taking notes in class is all but useless, tests are open note so just use the textbook and the chapter outlines he provides. He's friendly and if you go to him for help he'll help, but he doesn't accept late work unless you have an excuse.
the goat
I took James Jacksons general psych class and I can only say positive things about it. He is lecture heavy but he provides all notes and course material for the tests. All tests, including the final, are open note open book, so there is not much worry if you haven't studied. However, studying is still heavily recommended. 5/5
Professor Jackson is an amazing professor. He is very funny and makes class time go pass quickly. Class time isn't spend reviewing or talking about what's going to be on the test. Rather he is connecting it to current events or other psy concepts. His exams are a lot and take most of a class period, but they are open note and open book.
Dr. Jackson is an amazing professor, I just wouldn't take him again. I really did not enjoy how test heavy it was, there weren't many assignments but you had to read a lot and do discussion/ted talk posts. Though if you are looking for a professor that is willing to engage you and the class then he is the one for you!
He required attendance for lectures even though most of the material isn't on the exams. He put random facts from TedTalks on them that you wouldn't think to memorize. He purposefully made his class harder to keep the average at 75%. The extra credit is awful and he leans on it for making up any lost points due to his harder assignments.
Very nice guy but not forgiving when it comes to grades. Gives maximum number of questions possible on the exams. Extra credit includes reciting poems perfectly from memory. If you don't do well on your ICAs you won't make it above a B. Takes random attendance. I love psychology but this professor made it hard to enjoy, wouldn't take him again.
His class is very easy if you just pass all of his exams, as long as your passing your exams there is really no reason to fail the class. He does give the maximum amount of questions on an exam which sucks but it isn't terrible. his in class assignments also get hard from time to time, he also gives extra credit for memorizing a poem
Dr. Jackson's class is manageable with lots of extra credit opportunities. The exams cover a lot of material, but you can use your notes. Unstuck study was a big help for exam prep along with the free textbook. Definitely attend class - it makes a difference!
Dr. Jackson is a wonderful professor that truly cares about his students. He went out of his way to help me in the class. I cannot recommend him enough.
He teaches with passion and excitement. His transparency about his “unfamiliar” teaching methods and grading style is refreshing. He expects engagement, hard work and effort. It is worth appreciating his alternate methods to accumulate points if you are not a good test taker. With multiple point opportunities, there is no way for you to fail.
I love Dr. Jackson. He is energetic in the morning which is refreshing when youre tired. Exams are open note, but you only get 50 minutes to do the test so study a little. slideshows are kinda pointless just read the book. lots of ted talks
I think he's great at teaching/covering material. However, at the end of the semester, he had missing grades for multiple students. The missing grades were the "attendance verification" points, even though I was there, he docked me 10 points. I went to his office hours and he said he wasn't doing anything about it.
Would not take a class with this professor even if I was paid to, has absolutely no system in place. Does not even follow his own syllabus, is rude won't help students, and will judge you for questions.
BE WARNED. This professor does not care about you AT ALL. he does not care about helping you or guiding you. He clearly states that if his median in the class is 75% he's done his job and doesn't even try to help you improve or even grade properly after that point. DO NOT take this class.
really cool guy but talks a lot in a way that is not very helpful for comprehension of the topics. he doesnt connect with students and isnt always available. he does not respond to emails. dont take psych if you have a busy schedule because there is a lot of info.
Dr. Jackson is a caring and understanding professor with a unique and interesting perspective on his subject material.
This class felt like a total disaster. If you want a structured class, avoid Dr. Jackson for H&S, he rarely lectured and it truly felt like he could care less. He remarked "I won't be lecturing about the topics for next exam, this is college, get used to it". Frequently abandoned class and made us turn in 'ICAs' that felt totally irrelevant.
Professor Jackson was great at lectures, and did not just read off slides. Gave real world experience along with various ways to remember the theories and such.
jackson tries his hardest, but it is always so hard to follow his lectures. he randomly takes attendance, makes it worth a lot. missed a ton of classes to be part of the presidential search committee and makes comments that rub you the wrong way about his family, our pets, etc. tests are heavy on grade, but questions are painfully broad. avoid.
He is a great person ever my favorite!
Horribly ineffective. Every class is just a YouTube video, that is not an exaggeration. The tests have nothing to do with those videos or the textbook that you read. The questions seem to be crafted out of nothingness. Seems intent on not putting any effort into teaching. 5 exams make up your entire grade, 100 questions in 45 minutes. Avoid if able
Dr. Jackson is a great and funny guy; if you interact with the class discussion and participate, it will be even better. He will sometimes use us as examples in class and gives extra credit if you participate. You have to read the textbook for his class becuase he really does an overview of the textbook and plays videos in class a lot.
If you are not religious you best pick a religion now and start praying
The lectures have absolutely nothing to do with the exams that your entire grade relies on
