Jim Javor is the best teacher at UB. He's so nice to all of his students, and helps them to succeed with great kindness. He's the kind of guy who should have a big giant sunflower on his desk, just because he brightens up everyone's day.

He is the BEST math professor/teacher I have ever had in my whole life!!!! If you can't learn from him you shouldn't be in college.
This class is so easy and even if you do have trouble he is always willing to go over everything a million times until you understand it! DEFINITELY take his class!
Jim Javor is very fair with test material and easy to learn from, he has been the best math teacher I have had to date.
Professor Javor is such a nice and helpful man. I was in a bad car accident and was very backed up with material and he helped me to catch up and understand everything I missed. He is always willing to help. Very easy to learn from. Very smart.
The material was covered and presented very well, a true teacher at heart. The work load is fair as are the test questions. Calculus at 8 AM is not always the easiest thing to conquer, but professor Javor made the material enjoyable.
Very nice guy. Sometimes hard to understand but tries hard. Overall a pretty good teacher.
He cute.
awesome teacher
Two dumbs up! He shows excellence in his teachings. I whole-heartedly recommend him to everyone. Because of him, my math skills has gone up tremendously. He always make sure that you understand everything so you will never fall behind in his class unless you do not put any effort in your learnings.
Professor Javor is an amazing teacher; you can tell from his enthusiasm that he enjoys what he does, and he's very good at it. Exams aren't meant to trick you, asks the material in a basic way. He makes it easy to succeed, and takes genuine interest in ensuring you know the material. Two thumbs up!!
Best Calc Prof Period! Works at student pace not schedule! Calc Causing you problems? Then he is the perfect solution to the problem.
Best math professor without a doubt. i had class at 8 in the morning, but didn't mind going because he's so awesome. If your having trouble, he'll help you at all costs, and he drops the lowest of 3 tests and the lowest of 4 quizzes. If your taking calc 121 or 122, look for him.
Javor is very helpful with easy tests. however make sure that you always go over the tests after grading, the TA's make mistakes sometimes and you might end up geting a better grade. he's very easy but you still have to keep up with the material.
Good Humble Guy
Great calc teacher and all around nice guy. He explains difficult material really well and is always willing to help. Just go to lecture and you'll be fine.
Awesome guy. The nicest professor you will encounter at UB. Has a way of wording material strangely but will sit with you all day until you figure it out. Always available to help.
Had him last year for Calc 2. He is awesome, I still talk to him now and then around campus. A truly stand-up guy. His exams are straightfoward and easy, and he's always willing to devote class time to questions, and makes sure everyone knows the material before moving on. Best math prof @ UB.
Really a nice guy, will help you any way he can in or outside class. Reminds me of high school teaching methods, eases you into material and does not move on until you are comforatable. Great calc teacher.
If you need someone to cover the small steps in between he is your guy. He explains everything thoroughly and even has a few nice tricks in Calc. Definite must, better than Busch
Friendly, Speaks Clear English, and Very Helpful. Quizzes and tests are fair and right from the homework. Homework is not collected. If the class doesn't understand something he will slow down and make sure everyone understands. Had a 3.5 hour review session before the final!
Great Teacher. Aswesome Guy. Very Resonable (easy). Knows you name and is available to help 24/7. Definately an AAAAAA+++++++
he the best freakin professor at UB...easy to understand and a;ways reviews for tests and quizzes..go to class and u'll def get an A..i mean i totally suck at Math..and after taking his class i've never felt smarter..pulled an A both semesters..def take him for Calc
best professor ever!! makes calculus easy!!
Words cannot express just how great it was to take a class with Javor...I hate math, and still do, but he is extremely clear, extremely patient, and tells you EXACTLY what will be on his quizes and tests! He knows everyones name...and seems like he would divorce his wife, if nescessary, in order to give his students more extra help! Take his 121!!
the class is unavoidable but i've taken it and resigned it twice before, this time i stuck with it, i can say with confidence that he is the best math professor that UB has, and he speaks perfect english which is highly unusual for a math professor at UB
Best Teacher I've ever had at UB.Notes are clear, you know exaclty what will be tests and quizzes.Very understanding and approachable teacher. He will learn your name.He is very fair on grading and is always helpful in office hours. He will not move on untill everyone in the class is clear with what he is teaching. One of UB's best!
He was possibly the best teacher I have ever had. Very helpful and understanding. Always takes time to make sure everyone knows what's going on. Makes Calc I easy!
BEST Calc professor EVER!!! Get him if u can. Makes it all easy to understand.
BEST professor for calc, SERIOUSLY!... he is also a very approachable professor who is very passionate about his work. He'll even review for the final for at least 3 hours (or was it 6...)!! highly recommened!! i just wish i took him for 122 also.. =(
Jim is easy to understand and quite helpful. Calculus is not the easiest so you can still screw up. But his tests are not tricky nor are the quizzes. He tries to make things interesting, but it is just math. No attendance taken so if you know what you are donig you can miss class just do not miss tests/quizzes. Only go to Recitaion for quizzes too.
absolutely amazing, you have to take him!
i had never taken a day of calculus in my life before this class, and it was an easy A...he makes the class very easy to understand, and there are no surprises on his exams....go for Javor!!!
Won't go wrong with JimmyJ
GREAT PROFESSOR, he doesnt make you do all the busy work, you study as you need it. Clear, concise, and to the point if you go to lecture. Tests come from the Homework he assigns, but you do not have to do all the HW, but it is recommended that you do. 5 quizzes, and 3 tests, overall easy grade if you put in the time.
Dr. Javor is one of the nicest professors I have and seems to care the most about how we do. The class isn't hard and he makes sure everyone understands the material before moving on. Explains why we do things rather than just the steps to take.
THE BEST MATH TEACHER EVER!!!!!!!!!! if you don't take this class you are a zeeb. He cares about every student in his class and won't let you fail if you go to class. He has awesome jokes and teaches everything with extreme clarity. I wish I had him for all my math classes.
Very good teacher. Attendence is not mandatory but you should go. Test are harder than he makes them out to be in class but are do able.
JJ is Great. Explains everything so you understand it and always there to help. Highly recommended. May be one of the best professors at the school.
JJ is the man! Made everything very simple and easy to understand. His grading process makes it very easy to get an A.
He was a great teacher, he knew his stuff, just make sure you do the homework and attend office hours if you don't understand something. Test and quizzes aren't bad, and has a fair curve.
Absolutely love him!!!! My favorite professor so far :) He is very clear and helpful as a teacher. One test and one quiz are dropped- very easy to get an A. I hate math, and I love going to his class. That should tell you something right there!
best teacher i have ever had! makes it so easy to do well
He's the best professor I've had yet. Walk in with no knowledge or interest in calculus and walk out with an interest and a good understanding of the basic concepts. He explains everything perfectly. Attend class and you will get an "A".
One of the best professors there is. He really cares about the grade you get and wants to help you out. He has office hours all of the time and will go out of his way for you. Go to class and use the book and you will get an A, but it's deffinetly not an easy class.
Great great man, very clear, makes corny but enjoyable jokes. My favorite teacher yet, take his class, tests are very managable and he's always willing to help.
A very good lecturer. He's very clear in class and very helpful. Lecture attendance and homework are both optional, but you better do both. He drops the lowest quiz/test, and held a three-hour study session for the final. Be prepared to work, but Javor will make it much easier for you.
James is a legend
He is a great teacher. He is tough, but will make you learn the material you need for engineering and sciences. I got a D my first time and had to retake it, and Im glad I took it with him the 2nd time as he forced me to really learn the material. He is probably the best 141 professor at UB. If you want a solid Understanding of 141 take javor
One of the best professors I had freshman year. He's really willing to help you learn what you need to know and understanding of each individuals situation. If you put in the work, you will succeed.
My favorite teacher by far. He makes class fun with his quirky jokes and ramblings. He goes at a slow pace but not boringly slow. He answers questions very well. His office hours are great. Easiest final I've ever had ... and that's saying a lot considering it's calculus.
veryyyyy good professor.
Javor is the best math teacher around. He goes nice and slow, not really caring how much material he gets through, he only cares about the class understanding everything. Very helpful, and an all around nice guy. No real need to do homework, as he doesn't collect it, but grades very easily, actually wants you to enjoy calculus.
Great teacher! He truly cares for his students and takes time to explain things. One he does that I like is that he explains the origin of the math concepts used. If you keep up with the assignments you can do fairly well in the class. He drops the lowest test and quiz grade, plus there is a slight curve. What more can one ask for!
Amazing professor. He is very helpful and understanding of the concepts. He drops the lowest test and quiz, as previously stated and gives a sheet of all the concepts that will be on the test, so there are no "surprises" when you are taking the test. If you do the homework and understand it, you'll do very well.
Absolutely amazing professor. His lectures are clear and concise, his office hours are extreamly helpful, and he makes the material fun to learn. His tests are fair if you have completed the homework. Overall I would personally take this teacher over any other math professor in this department if I could.
Best math in the department by far! Probably one of the most humble sense of humor personalities. Makes math drawings into animals. Easy curriculum, makes concepts clear. Great system of grading. Funniest math teacher ever. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Jim is the man, a great calculus teacher. He will help you with anything and extends it in his office hours. Good explainer and very articulate. He makes calculus actually interesting to learn, and does not test you on any extremely hard problems that were not covered in class. If taking MTH 131, take Jim, you wont go wrong.
Javor is by far the best Calculus teacher at UB. He is so nice and always willing to give extra help. He drops your lowest test and quiz grade. Also, he puts a very helpful curve on your final grade. Would recommend him to anyone who has to take this class.
He is the best math professor anyone can have! His grading system is great, he drops the lowest quiz and test score. He does not collect homework but it's very helpful to do them. He explains very well and gives steps to solve each problem. He is funny and very helpful. I actually like Calculus because of him. TAKE HIM! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!
...Absolute god. I hate math, still do, but would take it again in an instant just to be a part of this man's legacy.
Jim Javor is more than a man. Somehow he takes calculus and keeps one interested enough to actually learn something, and do well in the course. Take this mans class, and if it's full, force register. You won't regret it
Javor is the best Calculus teacher available at UB. Makes the class enjoyable and his teachings are unbelievably easy to follow and understand and you will never fall asleep in his class. He even offers extra time after class to help you with whatever questions you may have. He makes calculus very easy to learn. Even new learners do extremely well.
Definitely take this professor, or you will regret! He is the best teacher ever! You will love his class~ he never collects homework, but those are very helpful to the tests and quizes, he gave review sheet before test. He is also very funny~ a cute mid age guy!
best math teacher ever!! after taking calc 1 with this man, I got an A in calc 2, just because of the clarity in which he teaches and the examples he uses, i couldn't possibly think of a better math teacher, definitely recommend

This is a very good teacher
Pretty much a given A or A-. Honestly this class is so easy a caveman could do it. Always adds his funny jokes, and lets you omit a few questions on the final.
GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS!!!!! He goes over everything that he covers in class. I took the class 8 in the morning last year and I was falling asleep during class. Not because of his teaching, but because its 8 in the morning! I almost flunked the class if it wasnt for his office hours. He goes over HW and sparknotes the material. Just go!
Best professor ever!!! He's really good at teaching, and he's always there for help! Super easy A. Just go to lectures and follow his steps. He doesn't teach me further (MTH142, for example), but he still helps me for any possible problems. Highly recommend!!!
Very helpful. Will take the time to clarify any questions. He has a 3-4 hour review a week before the exam and is usually always available.
Excellent! Amazing. Stupendous. Splendiferous.
wow he is the best teacher for calc!! extremely helpful and patient. all questions for quiz are directly from hw. i loved him!
HE IS SUCH A GREAT PROFESSOR, PATIENT AND LOVES HIS STUDENTS. ALWAYS READY TO GO EXTRA MILE FOR EVERY STUDENT. GOD BLESS HIM
GREAT PROFESSOR. NO ONE LIKE HIM AND NO ONE WOULD EVER BE.
Professor Javor is the man.
he is the funniest with is calc jokes at 8 in the morning. even if i fell asleep he still kept me entertained
As a alumni of UB, this rofessor I would recommend for any mathematics course at UB.
SOOOOO AMAZING
He is by far the best professor i have had at UB!!! I have had him for busniness calc and mth121 and mth122, go to class, take notes, his tests and quizzes come from class material and examples out of the book, hes very nice and approachable will always help you out!
he is a very nice man, very helpful and extremely COOL !!!
I liked him alot, very nice and helpful
he was nice
nice teacher
overall ok
Very good professor!
Amazing professor
I saw his name before I saw the title of the list for the top 10. I'm actually surprised he's not number 1. Amazing prof, completely clear, explains everything in a way you understand. I'm really glad he's my calc 2 teacher, I got lucky and signed up for a staff section. If you can, TAKE HIS CLASS, you won't regret it at all.
He is the best professor I have ever had. He is clear and very organized. His tests are fair and not too bad.
EXCELLENT
When rating professors in rank of awesomeness it goes great...awesome and..JAVOR. he is the best tutor iv had in my whole life. I am so proud to be part of his legacy.
After having to resign Coburn's class I took calc I with Javor. He definitely explained the concepts well and was very fair in his grading. He makes mathematics enjoyable. My only complaint is that he doesn't teach upper level math courses!
best prof out there hands down
The best prof. at the school. He is amazing! Go to his office hours! They help so much..usually so many people go that he has to hold them in a classroom. He is remarkable and really cares about his students. I really hate calc so im not going to say that he made it really interesting...but he made it easy to learn. FANTASTIC PERSON AND TEACHER
awesome
How can you teach hundreds of students per semester and remember everybody's name? The nicest guy in the world and a great teach. Material is tough, but it is calculas after all
The best at UB!!
Most Awesome Professor in UB!! He is super sweet, very understanding and teaches extremely well. His exams are very fair.I would totally recommend him!
Great Professor. Great Guy. I am a terrible math student, I nearly failed high school pre calc, but I took his calc class and did great! Best choice by far!
I hate math and this man got me through it. Just go to class, do the little amount of problems he give you which are not mandatory and you will pass- super helpful and he wants good grades for all of his students- he expresses this in his giant review sessions and his office hour which are like 24hrs a day- practically anytime he will help.
Simply amazing!!!!!. If all professors were just like him, the world would be different, and the knowledge were not difficult to understand. All the professors in the world should attend at least one of his lectures, so they know waht is a real teaching.
This man is the archetype of what a professor should be. He taught 4 classes back to back 3 days a week, and can still remember your first name even if you never go to lecture. He can make even the most complex topic simple; he could probably teach calculus to kindergarten students and they would understand it. I robbed myself by skipping his class
Jim is a really nice guy and his lectures are clear, but Math 142 is no walk in the park. The course is very difficult and covers a lot of material, even with a great professor. Graded homework assignments would have helped, as they would have motivated me to learn the material in a timely manner.
BEST PROF EVER!! do whatever you can to take him for any course, you won't regret it. if he doesn't fit in your schedule, rearrange it to fit around his class. do the hw and you're golden. tests are super fair, grading policy is fantastic, and he is just an amazing teacher.
Having never found it worth the effort before to comment on a professor, this person sets a prescident for all professors. For those who are fortunate enough to be in his class should consider themselves very lucky.
Great Professor. Went out of his way to learn the names of all his students, and helped as much as he could.
Very smart guy, teaches amazingly, had to sit close to the board to read his handwriting though. is always willing to help goes out of his way too. you'll learn calc the best in his class
The best math teacher I've ever had and one of the best professors I've ever had!
This by far the best professor I've ever had!! I took him 4 yrs ago and still remember what he taught me to this day. He's such a sincere guy, and truly wants to help you learn the material
Best Professor Ever! Took his course last semester and I bumped into him in the halls and he still remembers my name. His teaching skills go above and beyond any other professor that I have ever met, and is an asset to society. Take a course with him and you will not regret it. You will actually learn material in class.
Jim Javor is definitely one of my favorite professors. He does an excellent job at explaining concepts. His tests are fair and all the questions are based off of the homework assignments. I got an A in the course. But he's also one of the nicest guys. I know that I can talk to him if I have trouble understanding something.
6 words. You will regret not talking him!
EXCELLENT man. Tests very difficult IMHO= But- he is available for extra help and does go the distance if needed. He is always very nice- I cant imagine him losing his temper. Recommended..
I ABSOLUTLY ADORED JIM JAVOR! HE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAD IN MY WHOLE COLLEGE CAREER- his tests are alright and he gives you room to mess up- he drops 1 test and 1 quiz grade. HIGHLY RECOMENDED!
the best ever
My second time taking a math course with him and it won't be the last. He's an outstanding teacher who truly wishes to see all of his student succeed! He is very generous with his time and always went out of his way to offer help.
nice and gentle..helpful
Great teacher! He should be promoted as a professor, you will actually like math even if you never did before!
Javor is the man!...
He is so nice and so awesome. He takes his time after class to explain to you if you are still confused. He is very easy grader and hopes everyone gets an A (which basically happened). He is one of the top rated professor on this site for a reason.
Professor Javor is the man. He will help you with every question, and expand your mind. His office hours are very helpful before tests and as long as you keep up with his homework you'll do fine. The homeworks not mandatory though so its really on you to keep up. He drops your lowest quiz and test too.
wow- great guy! great teacher!! he was super nice and helpful!!!
I TOOK EVERY CALCULUS WITH HIM, HE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER
hes soooo nice and helpful. he really wants you to do well. He reminds me of just a sweet grandpa you just wanna pinch his cheeks lol. But if you need help he gives 1 on 1 during his office hours which is great because theres not alot of people and you can really understand the stuff
Awesome teacher, explains material really well. Homework is optional, drops lowest test and quiz grade, and he's a really nice guy
A very good math professor. Really cares about his students. Test and quizes are fair. Recomend him
He is definetly a good professor. He really wants people to do good in his class.I definetly recomend him.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!! he really strives to make sure everyone succeeds. very personable, makes sure he knows your name. go to his office hours, he is sooo nice and helpful if you don't understand anything. definitely recommend to anyone!! i think he deserves a special recognition from the university/math dept, he is just so good at what he does :)
EXCELLENT!!
Just simply the best! He is also probably the nicest person I have ever met in my life! He is extremely helpful, he teaches great, and his tests are very fair.
Whatever they are paying this guy they should triple. He is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. Explains everything fully and completely. They should make a Jim Javor Award for the best teachers in a school.
Think twice before taking him. I thought his class was awful. Didn't explain things well. I attended all the classes and still had to learn everything out of the book myself. I had no trouble in all my prior math courses, including MTH 241, but his class was different in a bad way. I think he is way overrated. Nice but not a great teacher.
One of the best math professors in UB. He is very clear in his expectations and his grading is very fair. Highly recommend him for any future math courses!
I love Jim Javor! He's so nice. And he is so fair. I learned so much and there is no better prof at UB. He's got all the bases covered: speaks english (WOW FOR UB!), and is polite( DOUBLE WOW!)
LOVE LOVE LOVE this professor!!!
Jim Javor is the best teacher in the school and he is really nice and clear and he makes everything really easy. He is also one of the funniest teachers i've ever had. He makes all these little side jokes that are ridiculous. Definitely recommend him
"ABSOLUT" BEST
I have him for 306 and I don't think words can even begin to cover the magnitude of how great he is. Super nice guy, articulate, interesting, funny, fair, and really goes the extra mile for all his students. Taking his class changed my life (and major).
I took his 121 class and I definitely recommend him. Sometimes he explains things in a more complicated way than necessary, but tests and quizzes are straight out of the book. He is always eager to help you out and is so sweet. Really easy, helpful professor, buy the book.
Prof Javor is the "BEST" professor that I have ever met at UB-Every word still underrates him.He is so amazingly gentle and polite that no other teacher can be.Office hours does help if you have questions. Not to mention:Loved his SUPER-ORGANIZED office.I wish to have taken MTH141 with him. What else could I say in praise for him?!?!?!?"BEST" "BEST".
Make sure you reserve your seat on the first row on the first day itself-otherwise you will feel guilty later on. Be sure to ask questions when you DON'T get it. Amazingly gifted Teacher and Mathematician!!
Extremely nice, friendly professor, very clear in his explanations. If you go to his office hours he will remember your name and will really help you out. One of the few professors who actually cares.
He was an amazing math professor! he took his time explaining things and it was crystal clear once you left! i would definitely recommend him. recitations are not mandatory which is amazing. his tests and quizzes are very straightforward and he also drops the lowest quiz and test. he has a review the class before the exam and is very helpful.
Jim is extremely thoughtful and stays after class a few minutes every lecture and answers your questions clearly. He is very good with office hours, has good grading and very clear schedules/assignments. If you take this class with Javor you will know the material.
Prof Jim is the best Prof ever.I love him.I rethink about my major now.You will learn a lot about Calculus.Drops lowest quiz and test.Easy exams and quizzes if you do the homework. I am sure you will love his class.
I was once an empty vessel to calculus before Jim Javor filled me with his vast reservoir of knowledge. Some people in the class found the class difficult but, as long as you can do the problems in the book and go to office hours for help an A is pretty easy with Jim.
By far the best professor at UB. Pays personal attention to student concerns. Can do very well if you keep up with him-which is not very hard. Offered plenty of help sessions before exams during the summer session. He is very friendly and approachable. And he remembers your names.
Javor will be one of the most amazing people you will meet in your entire life! extremely helpful and, AS LONG AS YOU PUT IN THE EFFORT, you will do well in any of his class's. I would recommend him to my dog if I could. Take him!
Arguably the best prof at UB. He is the model of what a prof should be, kind, cares about his students understanding of the material, gives crystal clear explanations and makes the class fair. If you put in the effort to learn the material the class is an easy A.
Personally my favorite professor at UB. His teaching style is perfect- clearly explains all material, assigns plenty of hw problems (not graded), exams are fair but are still challenging. I have never learned so much in one class as I did in his. Highly recommend.
Had him for diff eq's. Extremely helpful professor and cares alot about his students. Teaches the material clearly and states exactly what is expected to do well in class. His class is fair and he is by far, if not the best, one of the best math professors at UB
Professor Javor is the BEST! His office hours are extremely helpful! Take him if you can, he makes math interesting,, not to say an easy A course, but it is doable!
THE BEST EVER, I LOVED HIM <3 but by no means does that mean he was easy. Calc 2 was definitely a hard class, and although he made it much much more bearable with his amazing teaching & tons of help, by far not an easy A. You definitely have to work hard, so good luck to you sir.
Had him for Calc II last semester and I like him so much that I'm in his Diff EQ class. GREAT professor, explains everything clearly and thoroughly. The material is not easy, especially if your high school taught AP Calculus with calculators, but you'll learn a lot and you'll look forward to his class, which is always packed to the brim
Jim Javour is the man. Best professor I have had so far.
Jim is the best. This guy knows his stuff and makes everything so clear. If you do what he tells you to do for homework, you will get an A in this class, just don't expect it to be simple - it is high level calc
Best professor I've ever had. Truly cares about his students and does everything on his power to help. Calculus is not my favorite subject, but out of all my classes this was my favorite this semester because he was the best and most engaged professor. He's a very nice guy. Other professors should wish to emulate his qualities.
James Javor is the only teacher who I have ever received a failing grade from. I didn't learn much in his class. I have a 3.51 undergrad GPA and a 3.77 grad GPA and I had to resign his class because I had an F in it. I never missed a class and did all the homework. Apparently I'm the only one who doesn't like him.
If Javor is teaching MTH 306, do anything in your power to get in his class. The material is difficult, but his clear examples and teaching style assist one greatly. Tests and quizzes are very similar to the homework questions. Not an easy class, but an A is very doable if you work hard and go to his office hours. And his mustache is SICK!
Great Professor, guides you along any difficulties and is really helpful and knowledgeable. He also is easily approachable and friendly!!
Professor Javor is great. He may only do one or two examples per class but he goes step by steps and explains explicitly what he is doing. I took him for Diff.Eq and he made some of the weirder looking problems quite simple.
Very fair professor, the tests were based on homework problems and he did a good job explaining things in class. I never went to his office hours, but he still knew me by name at the end of the semester.
I am a person who loves calculus, and loves to learn its material. I disagree with half these comments. I took his class thinking his lectures would give me a good understanding of the material, they don't. He also PUTS STUF HE NEVER TEACHES IN CLASS ON HIS TESTS. He's a good man and he loves teaching but take an Asian prof instead, it'll be easier
Amazing professor but hard tests. The homework isn't mandatory but it's where he gets the problems for the tests. 3 tests, 1 final, drops the lowest test grade. Quizzes in recitation, but very easy. Always go to his office hours because they always turn into review sessions. By far my favorite professor at UB and he still knows my name :)
I took Javor for this class b/c I had Busch for calc2 and he was great and recommended Javor for calc3. He has really great reviews, but i don't know if it's just me, i never really understood what he's teaching and used YouTube for everything. And he has a really soft/low voice-kinda put me to sleep for the first week or so. lowest quiz/exam drops
DO NO TAKE HIM, very very vague with all the material. Is great at explaining the theory of the material but will never do examples. Very hard to prepare for his tests because he tests on problems he did not teach us. When he explains material he does not simplify it like a professor should, he actually makes it harder to understand.
Javor is one of the sweetest old guys you'll ever meet and cares about his students. With that said DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He makes everything harder than it has to be and his class is so confusing because he uses random pictures to teach. If you can take calc 141 with someone else do that because Javor is a HORRIBLE professor.
He is very nice and helpful. However, i do not like his method of teaching. He makes things more complex than it needs to be. He teaches easier examples in class and then makes the test hard. So take him pending on how you learn.
Javer knows way too much about math. If you want a simplified version of calculus do not take this class.
This was my first year taking Calculus so it was a bit of an adjustment for me. I feel like this class is more difficult than others at UB but you definitely understand calc as a whole much better than you would with other teachers
Really great guy, but he made things very difficult to learn in this class. He made this class harder than it should be. He didn't do many helpful examples during lecture. Homeworks aren't factored in at all with your grade so your final grade is based on just quizzes and exams.
JAVOR IS THE MAN! He is certainly the best professor in UB. He does care about his students. He knows most of his students' name. In cal 3, he is going really fast, explaining concepts perfectly, however, you will definitely want to read examples from the textbook because what he covers in class is not sufficient.
Great teacher! Exams are difficult but if you do the homework and study you will be okay
He drops the lowest quiz and exam grades and bases exams on homework. He is willing to offer help to students as many as possible by booking a large classroom. I transferred to another university this semester and found that I truly miss this professor's helpfulness. It's worth a lot to pursue at least a minor in math at Buffalo.
For UB Math, this guy hits the trifecta: he speaks fluent English, he is a master of his subject, and he can teach very effectively. He is insanely reasonable and helpful. Recitation and HW were optional (except quiz days), but he makes you want to take part in both. Drops lowest test and quiz. I immediately chose him for my next MTH course.
Javor is such a kind and sweet soul! He actually knows his students by name, his lectures are crystal clear. He explains just enough of the theory behind the math so that it makes sense, without confusing details. His examples are broad and useful for many questions. Homeworks aren't mandatory but the exams mimic homework questions. JUST TAKE HIM
He's really polite and a very helpful professor. He speaks kind of low which might be the only issue however if you manage to pay attention and keep up with his voice, he's an awesome professor. He has a very fair grading system as well. Totally recommended. Do the HWs on time and you are bound to ace his class.
I agree with a previous statement, he knows too much math and seems to make the content more difficult than it is. The book does not help. He likes to use elaborate words in a quaint voice. But he speaks English and drops the lowest quiz and test so how picky can you be.
As great of a professor as he was, speaking clear english, and his ability to make the material clear, his Tests were RIDICULOUS. He clearly said they were similar to that of the homework, but they were NOT. To add to that, when I received my tests back, error was never multiplied through, aka no partial credit.
He is always there for you, constantly has time for his students. The real question is if you have time for him. His quizzes are easy but his tests are extremely demanding with upwards of 7 topics, 12 equations, and 60+ review problems per and no curve. HW questions are harder than anything in class and are on test. DO THEM ALL OR FAIL LIKE ME.
If you give as much effort to study the materials as Javor gives to teach them to you, you are guaranteed an A. I study the textbook before coming to class, and by the time I'm done with the class, my understanding is solid. 20% of my understanding is from the textbook, 70% is from Javor's lectures. Very knowledgeable and a sweetheart. TAKE HIM!
Javor is a pretty cool guy! He knows a lot of his students by name! He teaches the theory behind the math, which I enjoyed! The class itself isn't too bad, but you NEED to do the homework. He doesn't really do too many examples plus He only grades quizzes and test so be ready for that! Lucky he drops the lowest for each!
Very kind and helpful. Smart guy. But you have to do the HW or you won't do well. Does like one example per class and it's the easiest possible one. HW and test questions are much worse.
Great teacher! If you want to pass make sure you go to his office hours and review sessions.
Tests and quizzes don't resemble the hw. Heavy theory based. Maple labs you won't get much help on. Takes so long with theory and a simple example you are lost on the hw. Nice guy but not sure what people see in him.
I don't know why he's so favorably rated. Talks extremely quietly, poor at time management (attempts to squeeze in central point in last 10-20 seconds of 80 minute class), useless MAPLE labs. He's competent, and that's more than you can say about most of UB's math department, but that's about it.
Javor's remarkable features are his passion, caution, and strictness. His lectures give you a sense of the important practicaltheoretic application, explained carefully but clearly. He does not grade homework, but assigns a lot; most people who did bad in his courses did not do homework. TestsQuizzes exactly like the homework. GoToOfficeHours!
He was great for 241, but i find that he is not that great for 306. he asks questions on tests that are the same type of questions as the homework, but he wants them answered in his way. actually have to memorize theorems! hes good, but id try to get someone else
Nice guy, passionate about math, but he was much better for 241 than 306. His version of the class is more theory based than the others I've seen, and he wants you to do things his way. He very often glosses over major topics or does the simplest possible case of a problem, leaving you completely lost on the homework. Could be much worse, though.
Jimmy Javes is a great professor! His lectures are comprehensive and he genuinely cares for his students. All the questions on his tests are questions he gives out for homework, so if you do the homework and do it right you wont have too much difficulty on the exam. He is very approachable and even knows ,most students by name. Take his class!
He is a very nice man and very helpful, especially out of class. He creates a great learning atmosphere where you feel comfortable to ask questions. The textbook we use, though doesnt correlate with the class so he will ask for specific ways of doing things on an exam, but only do one example and leave you stressed out on your own
Jim Javor personifies excellence in teaching. Having had 4 semesters of Professor Javor, I have nothing but the utmost respect for him. He is a phenomenal instructor - perfectly clear and concise - and a great person overall. He truly cares for his students; after each and every class, he would spend about 15 minutes giving 1 on 1 help to students.
James Javor is the hands down the best university professor I have ever had. He teaches with exceptional clarity, is very approachable, and is always willing to help students out. He's a great person and highly respected. If you want to understand Differential Equations, or any math class for that matter, take his class!
Seriously you guys? He seems nice but he is not that good at math. I asked him a pretty simple question and he goofed around about 15mins and told me he would answer it later in class. Never did. And I solve the problem the next day.
He is by far the best professor I have ever had. He will NEVER test on something he hasn't given you a week to absorb the information. He is hilarious and makes lecture fun to go to. He answers every question clearly and always offers help after class when needed. If you have the chance to take his class, even if you don't need to, I would take it.
Here's the thing: if you're good at math, but are not quick to memorize, take someone else. He wants things done his way. He was a very nice guy, but for my own benefit, I wouldn't take him again. Super tough on grading too, even though he says he's a big believer in partial credit. Drops lowest test/quiz, final is not optional.
You really have to do the homework in order to get an A. He makes you work for it. Try and go to his office hours he usually goes over theory in class and problems during office hours.
The Bob Ross of mathematics professors - always optimistic and humorous; cares for his students; extremely careful and thorough in his lectures. Preparation through homework sets and studying is a must for his exams - they are a challenge, but are very straightforward and come directly from the homework sets (with different numbers/functions).
He's an amazing and polite human being. Really cares about you, and won't belittle you for "stupid" questions. He lives to teach and you can feel it. Wish I took him for more math classes.
you have work hard to pass him
Javor is a really good lecturer, you can tell he loves math and loves passing on the knowledge. He always throws in a little history behind the topics, which I really enjoy. The ONLY complaint I is that I wish he spent more time on examples instead of the theory. The homework is ungraded but you NEED to do it in order to do well on the exams.
There are easier professors to take for Calc 3. This one is famous for doing long irrelevant proofs, coming to class late and letting you out late. Go to office hours if you want to understand the material a little better, but honestly the textbook is your only hope. Very friendly, enthusiastic professor, but his tests are from Satan.
He loves math. You can just tell by the way he lectures that he loves it, and for me that's the most important thing. He is very focused on theory and does few examples in class, but if you go to office hours he is very helpful an will explain any problem. Test are very tough but are based on the homework and are graded fairly.
Fantastic professor, attend office hours they are immensely helpful and he will often do any homework problems you ask about.
Great professor who really cares about his students. He really has a knack for teaching difficult concepts and holds plenty of extra help. Knows many students on a first name basis. Funny guy, too. Quizzes are fairly easy but exams can be tough and very time constrained. Keeping up with the homeworks each week is a must to get an A.
All of these reviews are spot on. Javor is the most clear and helpful math teacher I've had my entire educational career however he's also by far the hardest. If you don't want to learn anything take a different teacher. Javor wants you to learn. If you will use math in your future, take him, you'll be far ahead of anyone else.
Javor is seriously the dude. One of the best profs I've ever had. Tests are somewhat long but very doable with a few days of studying, just need to do the homework. Seriously the nicest dude, his office hours are ESSENTIAL. He'll actually learn your name and get to know you if you go, if he likes you he gives lots of hints on tests too. Maple's ehh
Professor Javor was my favorite professor from my freshman year, and is still one of my favorite professors to this day. He teaches this class so well and is very fair. I was a little less pleased with his grading policies for MTH 306 (Differential Equations) but its still wasn't too bad. He has to be one of the best math professors out there.
Javor made diff eq's not as hard as they could be. For someone who struggles as math as much as i did he was an incredible teacher and really broke everything down into manageable procedures that made it easier for me to understand. Tests are fair but difficult.
Very Interesting classes but tough grading !
Brutal grading, do not recommend. Lecture is beyond boring to listen too, nothing to keep you focused. Never take a tues/thurs class.
I don't know why other think he bad, but Prof. Javor did a great job on lecture a difficult calculus 3 course. And his test is very fair, no tricky question, just testing you know the concept. And do the homework guys! He is very passionate about his teaching, and willing to spend as much time as you need to clear your confusion. Very dedicatedProf
AVOID! I could not have been more disappointed taking this class. Exams are ridiculous, lectures are all theory and rambling, not to mention he is always 10 min late to class. He gives you nothing to go off of to help you prepare for the exams and 90% of your study time is wasted. I usually got As in math and I'm walking away with a D in his class.
The class was not too difficult if you practice the homework problems repeatedly and understand the pattern if why certain methods were used to solve it. I do agree that during the lectures, the theories are hard to understand. Make sure to know the different versions that a question could be written as from the textbook.
He seems to be really smart, but his lectures will probably put you to sleep because he speaks softly and the material is a bit boring. Overall you cover a ton of material in Calc3 so be prepared to do a lot of practice on your own. There were several days where I would do problems for 10 hours per day to prepare for the exams.
Professor Javor is SUPER AWESOME! The class is well structured and consistent. He doesn't grade HW and he really focusses on you learning the material. There isn't any busy work and you don't have to go to recitation if you don't want to. He was also great to talk to outside of class. I learned A LOT in his classes.
I really liked this professor. I took him for MTH 306 and that class is tough only if you slack and don't do the homework and ask for help when you need it. However, he does come to class late every single day and keep us there late, and that's kind of annoying considering I have another class right after. But that's the only bad thing about him.
I took Jim Javor for both Calc 3 and Diff Eq. To be honest, his calc class was much better than his 306 class. In 306, he covered a ton of material very quickly, most of it stemming from linear algebra. Note that linear algebra is taken after 306, usually. Had us do Maple code labs for some reason. Tests were difficult but fair in usual Javor style
Javor is a great professor. However, the class paces super quickly and its really really hard to keep up with homework(which is essential if you want to do well on tests and quizzes). If you're taking this class, I suggest you only take one more technical course alongside. It might also help to take Calc3 before this class even tho its not required
I hated his notes in class; he's messy, he does things his way (different than the book), and doesn't quite cover everything. What I did was go to class, do all the homework a week before the test, go to his very comprehensive and long office hours to clear up questions on hw, memorize the steps. If he says don't memorize something, def memorize it
This The OG. Attend his office hours and do the homework. Let me repeat, go to his office hours! Repetition matters and you must dedicate yourself to learning mathematics. Great caring guy and a great teacher. Honestly, one of the best professors I've ever had.
Javor is a great guy, many complain that he is too tough but you get used to it, YOU HAVE TO GO TO OFFICE HOURS!! He will go over everything, if you are there a lot he will learn your name and it goes a long way in getting the help you need. Overall, he is very helpful if you seek him out, had him over a year ago and he still says hi in the hall.
Decent teacher, if you can do all the homework problems tests should be no problem. If you want an A definitely make sure you can do ALL the homework problems since he does usually put some of the more obscure types of problems on the tests.
Explains everything in a manner that makes everything seem very easy. Very manageable course load.
Very soft spoken during lecture making it hard to hear him. Assigns so much work in such a short period of time it is very hard to keep up. My schedule made it impossible for me to come to his office hours and he literally told me "you should consider skipping your class to come to my office hours if you want help". I wouldn't take him again.
If I had to describe his class in one word, it would be: fair. He makes it very clear to you that if you do not do the homework problems, you will not do well on the exams. And he was right. Some of the problems on the exams are even the exact same as the ones on the homework. Go to class, go to office hours, and do the homework, you will do well.
Javor is a great professor. He broke down everything into something really manageable and he's funny too. Never EVER skip a lecture!!! His office hour is like another recitation and u will want to go to get extra help. Also, do the homework even he doesn't collect most of them unless u feel really confident and comfortable with the topic like me.
Jim Javor is a great man and a better professor. The grade was dependent on quizzes, tests and homework's. He would give out a list of what questions would be on the exam (would be more than happy to help), and then the quizzes and homework's were easy if you went to lecture. Very enjoyable class. He's not a hard professor if you do the work.
Amazing human being and a professor, take him for as many math courses you can. His tests and quizzes are identical to homework and his office hours are highly recommended since he goes over homework solutions and answers all queries. Do all the work and you will walk out with satisfactory grade.
Javor's the man. It sounds cliche, but what you put into this class is exactly what you get out. Javor really lays out exactly what you need to know for each test but actually tries to make sure you get it. Go to class, sometimes he teaches stuff that's not in the textbook. Sometimes he makes no sense, but go to the TA, it really helps.
Professor Javor is amazing. If you are looking for an easy class, do not choose his. He wants to make sure that everyone understands the material. Lectures were a bit rushed/confusing because he is usually a couple minutes late and he talks a lot. But if you go to his office hours, you are golden. He will go over all the HW and ensure u understand.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR... no matter what math course it is. Hes sub-par at explaining any kind of material and does not give a direct explanation when working with examples which makes you question where the numbers come from. Hes very old fashioned so no he doesnt use UBLearns. His exams and quizzes are very hard w/o any space for error.
Javor is a very kind man, however he can be very confusing. He is a bit out of touch. After the first test, he diverges from textbook heavily, and lectures are sometimes disjointed and he fails to connect things. Very conceptual, but doesn't do too many examples. He will make sure you understand the math though. Go to office hours! Solid choice.
Exams are difficult but if you attend his office hours you'll do fine.
Exams are difficult if you don't put the time into preparing for them. Lectures can rough at times because he tends to diverge away from the textbook. Will call you out if you have any electronics out. Highly recommend going to his office hours, he dumbs the topics down for you so you can understand them a little better. Nice guy, I would take him.
Jim Javor is the best math professor at UB by a miles stretch. He outperforms Rob Busch greatly. (In general, JJ has reached peak male form). Lectures are usually more theory/concept heavy since people ask many unnecessary questions that waste time. I HIGHLY recommend going to his office hours! They are very helpful in doing well on quizzes/tests!
A rest professor! Javor truly cares about his students and would go a long way for his students. As long as you attend the lectures and do the hw, thats a guaranteed A. For those who said his exams are difficult because they didnt do his hw. His test problems are very similar to his hw questions. Go to office hr if u need it.
Here's the deal: DiffEq isn't an easy class, but Javor does a good job explaining difficult concepts. Make sure you attend lectures bc he'll do things differently than the textbook in some cases, and going to office hours helps too. Homework isn't graded but DO IT; it's the only way you'll understand. Funny guy, don't be afraid to ask for help.
Jim Javor is an excellent professor. His lectures are informative and very interesting. He explains differential equations very well, and is accessible outside of class. He is a fair grader and his tests are fair as well. Dont take him in the morning, his voice will put you to sleep, its like a lullaby. Prepare to work a lot outside of class
Mixed feelings. Very kind and extremely intelligent. Really cares about each student. However, he's a mathematician's mathematician who dwells in a different universe than I. He's very interesting but I struggled to follow him at times. He went off on tangents I didn't always understand. My notes became disorganized. I didn't get the grade I needed
Javor clearly knows what he is talking about, but his lectures lost me at most points. It came to a point where I just stopped going to his class and taught myself using the textbook and YouTube. His tests are spawned from satan, he does drop one test and quiz but this is not sufficient to save you. The HW is optional but you need to do ALL of them
Amazing Professor. Is willing to go go out of way to help individual student. Tough course material easy when you do the homework(not graded) along with the lectures. Attendance not mandatory but highly recommended.
Best math professor I've had at UB. However I highly do not recommend taking MTH 306 and 241 at the same time; toughest thing I've done! He teaches concepts, not formulas. Homework isn't graded but you absolutely have to do all of it to do well. He strays from book in 306. Office hours are like review classes. He drops lowest test and quiz
Teaches his own methods that are not same as textbook, so when you are confused the textbook does not help. Other reviewers mentioned that he is good at office hours, but I wouldn't know because I had a class during his OH and multiple attempts to see him at a different time were denied. His tests are nothing like class examples or HW.
Three tests and four quizzes, one of each gets dropped. Lots of hw problems is assigned but try your best to do as many as you can because the test is very similar if not the same as the hw questions. He doesn't teach everything according to the textbook so show up to every class. Very straightforward but the class can get a bit mundane.
He understands where and how you are confused and tries his best to make you understand the material. This man was not even my professor yet I still feel like I am a part of his class.
Javor is by far my favorite professor I've had. He really wants to make sure that everyone understands what he's teaching, and he makes it very clear what exactly we are expected to know for exams. His notes are very clear and he explains everything very well.
Great teacher, just do the non mandatory homework's and you good. Also he drops the lowest test and quiz.
Very difficult Professor, He is extremely smart but does not realize his students aren't geniuses too. Unfair tests that are harder than homework. He gives one example in class and expects you to be able to complete every problem off of the one example. Has his own method for solving a problem, if you solve like the textbook it will not get credit.
Take Javor, but keep in mind that YOUR GRADE IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. He doesnt check or grade homework assignments, and I learned the hard way that skipping these is NOT the way to go, even if you leave every lecture thinking you know exactly what just happened. Youll do great with him, but only if you are willing to work for it. Solid professor.
I don't think he is a good professor. In class, he will do one example for each section and the examples he does in class are the easiest ones. Then he assigns homework that is much harder than the examples he does. You basically have to teach yourself the class because you won't know how to solve the homework problems. He is a nice guy though.
Javor was too smart for his own students. He did not understand that not everyone is naturally a math genius. He explained material as if everyone already knew the theories behind very complicated mathematics. The textbook differs from his lecture notes. He will not accept methods found in the textbook.
Jim is arrogant and condescending. His class is only graded by tests and common finals. He teaching method is absolutely horrible. Drop Calculus if you have Jim.
His exams are basically the median level of the homework he assigns. Try to do as much homework you can and do some of the rusty ones the day before the exam you should be fine. His office hours are often helpful, but nothing on the exam will be explicitly hinted. Small curve at the end.
Drop this class ASAP if you have the opportunity to do so. He is far one of the worst professor I've ever taken with in UB. He tends to fail you the exams, and labs if you don't follow his methods and tends to use the method that was taught in textbook. Exam weights heavily and are often, and finals mandatory
I don't see why many people are saying he is an awful professor. Just do the non-mandatory homework and you'll do fine, they are very similar to the exam questions and sometimes, are the same questions. He is very accessible outside of class and his office hours are helpful. He also drops the lowest quiz and exam grade.
This man is one of a kind. He teaches very well but make sure you keep up with the HW, and definitely go to office hours and ask him questions about it, he'll work out the problems for you. Somehow he managed to learn my name after going to office hours just once and I don't recall ever telling him my name. All in all I recommend him.
Do not take a class with Javor. Javor is arrogant and condescending professors I ever had in UB. He tends to overcomplicate the math and tends to go over easy problems and assigned you much harder problems in tests or quizzes. To do well he makes you complete Matlab which factored into grade because the paper hw are obsolete
People will tell you that he's boring. They are wrong. He makes funny little jokes in class and tries his hardest to help students understand the material. I have seen my friends SUFFER with other teachers, which is crazy because this prof made this my favorite class I've taken so far. He is very clear and his methods make tests easy. I love him
Javor is the most caring professor at UB. His class is more theoretical, so I advise to take him if you are a math major. He really cares about his students and gives many opportunities to do well. He gives 3 tests, 4 quizzes, 4 homework assignments and 1 final. Lowest quiz and lowest test are dropped, which can save your grade. Love this guy!!
Great prof. I just love the math department. Busch, Marino, both Javors, and Casper. Ungraded HWs, but you must do most of them. Great office hours.
Professor Javor is a very good teacher who is extremely enthusiastic and kind. While he is passionate about Calculus, the 1.5 hour period lectures were a bit much for me personally. As long as you attend his lectures and complete the homework, you will excel.
Im usually not the person that expects easy handouts but my god this professor and his exams are insane. Prepare to get bombarded on sides with his exams.
The exams are way too hard and are way harder than the homework. Even if you somehow know what you're doing on the exams, you have a 1 hour time limit. Too stressful to finish, never have enough time. This professor is crazy with these exams. I haven't learned anything the whole semester. Stay away, he tries to weed you out with unfair exams.
Don't take Jim Javor especially if you have a busy schedule. He doesn't allow any calculators or anything so it ends up being you know it or you don't. If you don't, you're screwed. Learned this the hard way.
Don't take Javor if you do not want to do extra work. He makes you complete 10 longer questions within 45 minutes. This man does not understand that it takes at least 10 min to get a response check done if students are lucky enough on first attempt. Please! just make exam shorter or give us more time. Cause every one gonna fail if nothing changes.
He is an absolutely terrible professor. I had taken Calc 1, Calc 2, diff eq, linear, and gotten an A in all of them with the bare minimum effort. This teacher is so terrible at explaining things. His lectures don't match the exam & he assigns too many questions on the exam with shorter timeframe. Do not take a class with him if you can avoid it.
Good person, but out of touch. Wants us to do 8 questions in 35 minutes. He uses minimal, best case examples so when you're faced with a real, difficult problem you're lost. Wish he would do more, harder examples in lecture and explain his thought process out in a detailed way, because right now I end each lecture having gained minimal knowledge.
He is just awful. The tests are in no way similar to the practice tests! He gives as false hopes by giving us really easy to figure out core problems and REALLY DIFFICULT EXAMS!!!The questions are so tedious to do with so little time. To say that he is the best is just a lie.
Javor's very sweet. But he does NOT prepare you for your exams. The hw/practice problems are a terrible gauge to what the exam will be like. He gives you +/-40 minutes to do 4 questions that normally take upwards of 20 each & within that 40 minutes you need to scan and upload your exam too. Next to no partial credit. PLEASE, AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!
I had Rob Busch who always spoke very highly of Javor. So naturally when I couldn't take Busch's for calc 3 I went to Javor. Javor is a super nice professor who seems like he would be great in person, but he doesn't handle online classes very well. Exams are very different from practice problems and usually are far more difficult.
Your grade depends upon 4 impossible midterms, cumulative final exam. He is not the best teacher. The hws will not properly prepare you for quizzes and exams. He expects a lot out of you. It is not impossible, but it is not a first choice. Do not take this class if you are taking other hard classes.
He seemed helpful to other studenrs but we only met Fridays and he just answered questions. He actually seems to be one of the most incompetent professor that I ever seen. But the issue is that the exams are not graded by TAs, but are rather graded by paid coworkers. He also paid them to grade everyone exam ridiculously hard.
His final exams are vacuous and he expects us to answer the way he wants or else it's wrong.
He's a good professor. He goes through examples to help you understand the concepts better. If you spend time doing HW's and practice problems before the exam, you should be fine.
Take this class and you are absolutely going to fail. He is the worst professor I have ever take for Calc sequences
He is beyond reasoning the worst professor you will ever take!!! He is just impossible to bear! EXAMS are H.O.R.R.I.B.L.E. There are four exams and finals, and both of them are extremely hard. The worst professor in UB
I literally had to drop out of the class. I am now retaking the summer class which I understand everything even from the first lecture, I listened to this professor and I personally did not understand anything nor did I learn anything
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HIM UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR GPA TO DROP. Class is heavily based on 4 exams (including final), class exams have multiple parts with only 4 questions, no partial credit. U either get it right or wrong. Professor sucks at explaining concepts and examples he gives in class don't even relate to exams. PLEASE BEWARE.
Take this course at a community college if you can. He makes it clear you are just a number in his breadth of classes. He will not hesitate to fail you. However, you are given all the resources to succeed. Seek out extra help from your TA's and recitation teachers.
Hardly accommodates to an online learning environment, uploaded lectures are boring and misleading. Watch them if you want to see his hand covering the page in 480p for the entire time.
He is a bit old-schooled, he seems sweet but he does not know how to make material understandable to students. I feel like he made calc2 harder than needed. He spends too much time on proofs and only does few examples, those examples are so simple compared to what is on exam.
Don't take Javor, if you are looking to pass Calc sequence. He wants you to finish 10 questions in 35 minutes, next to zero partial credit. On top of that he is very dimissive in email, when they you ask for regrade or ask them for partial credit. AVOID HIM ANY COST!!!
Glad Jim Javor quitted. He failed as an instructor because he was more interested in failing people than making lectures understandable, and look how the school reward him. They didnt care. No one will miss him. Bye!
Hes not a good professor imo as you have to teach yourself or get help from TAs. He goes over very simple problems in class that are 10 times easier than his exams. Hes not homework heavy so if you dont like HW and can teach yourself, this class wouldnt be bad. But for most student, I would recommend other professor, as options are available.
Consider other people's warning, DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO FAIL CALCULUS.
He tried failing handful amount of people in Calculus and got fired. Now, he's gone, thank god. He was a harsh grader and difficult professor to work especially during pandemic. Not good at all
Literally failed half of the students in Fall 2020 to the point where half of them need to repeat this class in winter session. Calculus 3 is not bad, but he makes it bad.
