Good Guy. Will help you. Tests are fair if you are willing to study. Study previous tests and SI sheets and you will do just fine.
He can be a bit dull. But he's very straightforward with his tests. Pretty much, if you study the book, SI sheets, and his previous exams, you should be good to go. His lectures are pretty much straight from the book. Watch out for his final though. It's the one tricky exam he'll give you.
Dr. Kindt can be a bit dry at times...there weren't any demonstrations in his class compared to Weaver/Morkin, etc. However, he was extremely clear in his teaching and worked very hard to make sure the class understood what he was saying. Tests reflect what he teaches. He has an odd sense of humor...definitely a scientist.
One of the best professors I have taken. He explains P-CHEM really really well and make students really think about it. I enjoy his lecture very much. He is also very helpful in office hour.
Chemistry is always challenging, but Dr. Kindt wants his students to succeed. He encourages questions and tries his best to answer clearly-though he is at times too intelligent to explain things simplistically. He provides test outlines and practice materials. His tests are calculation based and make you think, but are fair.
If you aren't good at chemistry, this class is hard. He does a lot of math, so if that is not your strong suit, go to office hours every week. His lectures are dry and boring. I would go to office hours with specific questions. Pay attention to old exams.
Dr. Kindt is one of the best professors that I have taken at Emory. He is clear and concise. He is boring as a lecturer but still attempts to get people to participate--he also admits that he is a little dry. Helpful in office hours, but do not go expecting to have a conversation. Come with questions prepared.
Very good professor. If you are coming into the class with an AP Chemistry background, it probably will be an easy or semi-easy A, but if you are not, I would recommend using all the resources. His lecture slides, back of the chapter problems, and learning objectives are honestly enough to study for the tests. If you are not as strong, just read.
Very O.K. teacher. His lectures are very boring and he is too easily lost in answering trivial questions that take time away from any useful lecturing. Test questions can be confusing and he does not assign a good assortment of back of the book problems. Needs a lot of practicing on explaining concepts, but this could because he is young.
Kindt gives pretty fast-paced, dense lectures, which can sometimes be a difficult way to learn chemistry, especially since he is pretty math heavy. His tests are difficult, but pay attention and take good notes, and they are doable. He also posts a lot of review material, so use that. Very patient and helpful in office hours and review sessions.
Dr. Kindt is one of the best professor I've had at Emory. He gives concise instructions and abundant material to study for the test. Unlike some other Gene Chem professors, he actually lectures. However, be aware that you need to be really good at Math to succeed.
Incoherent, fast-paced lectures. Very accessible during office hours.
Dr. Kindt truly cares about his students and is extremely understanding. He is very accessible outside of class as well - take advantage of his office hours! His lectures are very straightforward, and he posts a lot of material and resources for his students to use to prepare for the exams. Definitely a great professor!
Most people who take CHEM 202 don't take it seriously because they think CHEM 203/204 are the harder courses. Just take this course a little bit more seriously by doing practice problems over and over again and you'll do fine. ALEKS is still a pain, but he structures them in modules that are actually related to the topics. He's enthusiastic, too!
Dr. Kindt is a very kind person and wants his students to succeed. Sometimes it is hard to follow his lectures, but if you do the readings before class it is easier to follow along.
Professor Kindt is a great professor, but he might sometimes be a bit hard to follow during lecture. Don't be afraid to ask questions during class, through email, and during office hours. He usually welcomes questions. He is also very enthusiastic about chemistry and also very nice to students.
Dr. Kindt is really an awesome professor and he integrates a lot of cool concepts into 205. Content can get abstract at times but go in with an open mind. In terms of structure, the asynch and synch material dont usually overlap so be prepared to cover all your bases as work can get hectic/disorganized at times. Tests fairly straightforward
Dry humor and not accessible at all. But fair grading, reasonable exam, and very helpful lectures not only for course content but also for daily life. Overall very traditional teaching style and you will learn a lot about pchem, quantum mechanics, and electronics.
You have to work for an A, but there's plenty of support. Attending SI sessions really helps, they do worksheets with problems similar to what is on tests. My test grade improved exponentially after going to them. Dr. Kindt answers any questions students have as well. The workload is manageable.
Kindt clearly has never lectured online. Very few people in his section feel that he's succeeding at teaching, and many of us learn from outside sources (including lectures from other universities) rather than from lecture. Exams have been made more difficult, and Kindt doesn't curve them while other professors curve their sections by 10+ points.
I was recommended to take kindt by a friend that had him in a dif course, & I regret my decision to take his 202 class. There was no real structure, he didnt explain topics well, we wasted all of class on irrelevant stuff or in breakout rooms doing problems he hadnt taught. Youd need to have a tutor or prior knowledge to do well in kindt's class.
his classes drag on and he tends to talk about things that are irrelevant to the topic. his lectures during class seriously do not help at all so be ready to learn from the textbook, ALEKS, or other online resources. he emphasizes group work a little too much and it gets really annoying because of the breakout rooms. he's a very nice person tho.
His lectures were often hard to follow and the breakout group system to do group work didn't seem to work this semester. However, there were plenty of other resources such as the textbook, pre-lecture videos, LA sessions, and the internet that I depended on. He seemed passionate about teaching chemistry, just had a difficult time teaching online.
Taking Kindt means you have to work hard to understand chemistry and even harder to understand him. His lectures are unorganized and halfhearted, his worksheets are full of careless errors, and his feedback on assignments is either slow or nonexistent. He's a nice enough guy but a nightmare to learn from, especially virtually (bad with technology).
Dr. Kindt is one of the kindest professors I've had. A super easy-going guy too. Take advantage of his office hours! Took 150 and 202 with him, and to be fair, 150 was a wonderful class, since I think his specialty is inorganic chemistry. 202 was a stretch though, as sometimes his explanations weren't the clearest.
Very kind teacher who seems to genuinely care for his students. Lectures are often a bit slow (takes him a while to "get to the point"). If you do not have a good background in chemistry, you will end up doing the bulk of your learning outside of class. Worksheets often have confusing typos/errors and he often forgets to upload the answer keys.
Dr Kindt is very friendly and accessible. His exams are fair as long as you do all the practice problems and worksheets (even when they're not graded!) His lectures can be a bit overcomplicated but as long as you do the pre-class readings you will be fine. ATTEND LA SESSIONS!
Dr. Kindt is very enthusiastic and nice. He is very understanding and gives plenty of time for homework and test prep. You have to do work out of class to keep up with the lecture, but it is not too much. He seems to be a bit too smart for CHEM 150, and he sometimes digresses into complex subjects we don't need to know which can be confusing.
He has lots of opportunities to get extra help outside of class and really wants to help you out. But I will say not much time is spent on each topic at all, so it goes by super quick, too quick for me. Slideshows are also mostly pictures, so concise explanations of concepts aren't really on there and made it harder for me to catch onto content.
I would only recommend Dr. Kindt if you have a strong background in chemistry. He is a nice guy but a very boring lecturer and isn't clear about the content we should focus on. If you do get him make sure you do the worksheets, attend lectures and go to office hours.
Kindt really cares about student learning. Hes always open to questions and even has a GroupMe where students can ask each other and him questions about the homework. I didn't take AP Chem, but I thought his lectures made sense, and I felt prepared for the tests. The tests are quite manageable if you do the practice tests + worksheets.
Professor Kindt does not give good lectures. However, he explains concepts extremely well in office hours. Definitely worth taking, this course is difficult from any professor. If you take Dr. Kindt, make sure to utilize office hours and consider teaching yourself the material before each class.
Decent professor, although hard to interact with and get feedback from. Very nice guy and extremely smart, but almost too smart for CHEM 150. Has trouble "dumbing things down" and is not the best at explaining tough concepts. You NEED to attend office hours and LA sessions to do well, but that's just the nature of the course. Overall good professor
Dr. Kindt throws a lot of information at you without in depth explanation. This makes it difficult to learn for students who are new to the world of chemistry. However, if you attend LA sessions you can still make an A!
james kindt doesnt understand his own slides
Professor Kindt assumes you understand all these chemistry terms and goes into explanations during class that don't make any sense. He's super monotone and he rambles a lot. It is so incredibly hard to hear him even with a microphone. The average for the second midterm was a 56% and him and the chem department made the decision not to curve it.
Lectures are confusing; slides are not organized and the drawings are messy. If you look at them after class on your own, it'll be difficult understanding the notes; the midterms are very difficult, average for midterm2 is around F. Even if you go to the LA sessions, the problems are very different and compared to the actual midterms very easy.
Do not select his course unless you learnt organic chemistry before. Class is 30% discuss (=your knowledgeable friend (maybe?) lecturing you / youtube self-learn) and 70% going over questions. Since no textbooks is used I realize this is an OChem course only when the semester has progressed 75%. If possible get a tutor, and LAs are wicked.
- Very knowledgable - Terrible at teaching
Kindt does not teach anything in lecture and then blames students when the test average is an F. He also refuses to curve grades or do anything to help make up for the extremely low test scores that were clearly a result of him not teaching in a clear way. He also rarely responds to student emails.
Dr.Kindt is not a great professor. He is a kind person but his lectures are very unclear. He speaks very fast and mumbles and reads off the slides extremely quickly. I pretty much ended up teaching myself. That being said, Chem 202 is very doable because of the amazing Epass tutors, LAs, and the amount of practice problems we get.
Lectures are hard to follow. Caring professor though. Go to LA sessions and do the in class and afterclass worksheets because those will teach you more than the lecture. usually.
Dr. Kindt is very enthusiastic about what he teaches and super nice. He provides a lot of materials for practice and is available for office hours. His tests are a lot harder than lecture, and there is no curve even when the course average is a D or F. It is a hard class, and you have to put in a lot of work outside of class to do well.
Do not take his course unless you already learnt organic chemistry yourself! Do not take his course unless you already learnt organic chemistry yourself! Do not take his course unless you already learnt organic chemistry yourself! Do not take his course unless you already learnt organic chemistry yourself!
I'm not sure why Kindt receives the hate he does. The class is admittedly difficult and Kindt does try to cover the pertinent material in class. Tests are very hard, true. However, a lot of the difficult material can be accessed thru posted worksheets and practice tests. Utilize all resources and you will do fine.
Although I struggled in his class, I blame it mostly on myself. He is an incredibly smart professor and is very accessible outside of class in office hours. However, his lectures can be boring and disorganized so prepare to do a recap after lectures. Focus on LA sessions and the worksheets the chemistry department provides. They help a bunch.
His classes are so hard to keep awake and focus in. All he does in class is lecture on and on about things that aren't even relevant for the class. Professor Kindt is also so mean and condescending to his students. His tests don't reflect the material covered in class and when the students raise their concerns his only response is "study better".
This course with this professor was definitely harder than it needed to be. Great guy and a good photographer, however, he complicated the material with an over-explanation of topics. Great laughs in class, horrible tears during the exam. He's not the worst professor though. I would take him again over any of the other chem 202 professors.
While his lectures are not extremely engaging or "fun", Dr. Kindt shines outside of the lecture hall. I believe that his strength does not lie in is ability to interact with many students at once, but rather one-on-one, especially all the time. The class GroupMe page, presided over by Dr. Kindt, was helpful in understanding difficult concepts.
chem 202 is hard, but kindt is one of the better profs to take it with. do the practice problems he provides on canvas. check your work and if you have any questions during the revision process that u can't figure out, ask him. GO TO LA SESSIONS. profs can't spoon feed everything, you have to make a TON effort yourself to be successful in this
chem will be hard with whoever you take it with. He's not the most engaging lecturer but if you are interested in chem he will suffice. he provides plenty of resources on canvas in an organized way too which is awesome.
His class is hard and he is an average professor at best his lectures are boring but be is available and helpful after class in office hours.
Eh. I ended with an A, but he was not a great lecturer and took 1000 years to explain one simple concept. Woudln't recommend.
Although Kindt is very knowledgeable and accessible outside of class (through office hours and messaging on GroupMe), his lectures tend to be very disorganized and his explanations are often confusing. Exams are hard, but if you go to LA sessions and do the worksheets/practice exams provided, maintaining an A can be manageable.
Kindt is certainly the best option for CHEM 202. While he tends to ramble during lectures, he provides you with the resources you need outside the classroom to succeed. He even host office hours three times a week to make sure his student understand the material.
Was Dr. Kindt great? No. Was he horrible? Also no. He was really anti-curve even when the class was doing very poorly and sent out a kind of abrasive email about it, but he made the final easier to compensate. Any chem class will be hard, but Kindt was incredibly helpful in office hours and didn't want people to fail.
- Average teacher but he is extremely boring - Class was surprisingly not test heavy at all - Extremely confusing tests that did not line up with the material - His lectures are terrible and disengaging, I could never even read his hand writing.
The tests are not hard, while all the content needed can be learnt in lecture. He is very accessible for asking questions outside of class.
Everyone wants McGill for Chem 150, but Kindt is just as good. McGill was almost always behind on our material. He is very accessible outside of class (loads of office hours), but some people don't like him because he isn't the most engaging lecturer. He isn't sure what students are confused on, but he explains concepts well (if you ask questions).
Great professor. He has many office hours and is always available to help through email, zoom, or groupme. Tests are not on unexpected topics, and he prepares you well. My only issue is that he tends to ramble during the lectures, but he posts a recording of each lecture, so I rewatch them if i ever zone out in class.
Dr. Kindt tends to ramble about certain topics that will not be included on assessments, but it just shows how passionate he is. Although it may be hard to get a clear explanation for questions in class, his office hours are helpful to answer your question or listen to others. He also records lectures and office hours. Very caring professor.
Dr. Kindt is a great person and very friendly, class is very difficult if you do not already have a strong chemistry foundation. Most people in class have taken AP chem and don't need to be there which is frustrating. He tends to ramble when answering questions sometimes his explanations for simple questions can take 10 min and still not be clear.
For CHEM 150, Kindt is stellar, so do not take his rating as a reflection of all sections he teaches. His lectures have tons of content packed into them. But, I never felt lost after consulting the pre-work readings/ worksheets. His office hours are extremely helpful. He is also very kind and humorous in lectures. IMO, he is just as good as McGill!
Kindt is a nice guy but an awful lecturer. He uses complex scientific explanations and overcomplicates. It's also hard to get clear answers to questions. I got an A+ somehow by attending LA sessions, doing all the practice problems, and going McGill's office hours lol. They also replace lowest midterm with your final so dw if you fail a test :)
Dr. Kindt is just the definition of mid. His voice puts everyone to sleep and it is impossible to learn anything from his boring lectures. He doesn't really care about his students, like if you go to office hours he barely pays attention and seems to want you to leave ASAP. BUT, Chem 202 sucks no matter what so if you have no choice Kindt is fine.
I loved Dr. Kindt's 202 class so much! He is one of the most caring professors I've had at Emory. 202 is hard because you start orgo material, but it is so much fun if you like chemistry. 3 midterms, a final, 4 quizzes, aktiv homework, learning catalytics, and 2 reflections make up your grade. Take Dr. Kindt if you get the chance, he's the best!
Dr. Kindt is very caring towards his students and is very accessible for questions. When we ask questions in the Group Me, he will respond very late at night. Dr. Kindt is very kind and shares his interest and enthusiasm about bees at the beginning of every class, which is very cool!!
Kindt was great! He was very accessible through GroupMe, and I think he really cared about his students' success in the class.
Chem 202 is overall a very difficult class and the midterms and quizzes heavily impact your grade. He holds a lot of knowledge however can be boring during the lectures. If you go to him during office hours however, he explains the material in detail so you understand it forever. He is extremely nice and super understanding!!
Very great professor- he is very accessible outside of class and makes efforts to help you.
His lectures are confusing if you don't pay attention ~95% of the time because he dives deep into mathematical explanations. Very accessible outside of class and caring toward his students. Go to office hours. He answers at almost any hour through GroupMe. For the final, he added a lot of extra practice material that other sections didn't have.
If you took AP chemistry in highschool, this class is a breeze. I think Kindt does a good job explaining, especially mathematical and visual concepts. He also answers any questions you have in the class groupme about chemistry, sometimes even until midnight.
Very nice prof, answered questions in groupme even late at night
I learned more about bees than chem. I dont think ill take James kunt again.
Professor Kindt is very kind and accessible. Go to office hours and make sure to pay attention during class because it can go by fast. I never took AP chem or any type of chemistry in high school, but I still managed to get through with an A, so just make sure to put in the work and do all of the worksheets, practice problems, and LA sessions.
tests are a lil hard. records his lecture, a lil monotone. decent prof
Dr. Kindt is a great professor who truly cares about his students. He creates a GroupMe for the whole class and mostly responds anytime and quickly. Definitely rewatch the lectures and take in the content, the true quality of his lecture should be apparent then. His lecture/slides are really detailed and clear as well.
This class is mostly self taught because of how many resources on his canvas and how boring and confusing his lectures are. Compared to other chem 150 teachers in my year he was on the better side but would not recommend as a first choice when selecting sections.
Dr. Kindt is a genuinely nice guy, but is an okay teacher. The way he taught topics always could've been simpler; I think he struggles with dumbing topics down. The tests do reflect the class material, but it was always a struggle the week of exams to essentially self-teach the material. He was very accessible outside of class with GroupMe.
Very nice guy who loves bees. The lectures were quite boring but ok if they were in Atwood 260/ not a lecture hall. Super accessible outside of class but struggled to explain difficult concepts in simple ways. There were a fair number of grade buffers. The tests reflected the materials we learned in class well.
Dr. Kindt was a great teacher for an intro level chem course like Chem150. The Groupme honestly saved me many times when I had last minute questions and he answers usually in a timely manner. Although he can get himself confused sometimes, I think compared to the other Chem150 profs he is one of the better ones.
I took him last semester, and he is very responsible and easy to reach if you are in the groupme. The quizzes and midterms are okay, and you can make up for them with the final. The final was really hard for me even though I studied really hard and got A's for the quizzes and midterms. Great teacher would take again.
Lectures could be boring but I learned a lot. Went on unhelpful tangents but overall, I would take again. But take mcgill if you can...
The content for chem 202 is standardized across every single professor teaching it. So tests and quizzes are the exact same across all sections. Dr. Kindt is very good at explaining the math behind chemistry. Chem 202 is slightly more difficult than chem 150 but NOT NEARLY as much as other ratings make it out to be.
Dr. kindt is super caring and nice but I personally do not understand the way he explains because he explains from a physical standpoint and sometimes over explains so I will get more confused after going to office hrs.
Kindt moves through the material at a good pace and actually finishes the material for each module on time. Kindt kids usually do better on the exams than other classes. CHEM 202 is just a hard class - you will do poorly regardless of the professor if you don't study. He's very active on the class GroupMe and office hours!
I had Dr. Kindt for 150 and then chose him for 202 due to his availability outside of the classroom. Since his lectures can be confusing (202 is just hard), the Groupme and office hours are key. Outside of class he will explain concepts slowly and usually more understandable. He is a very nice guy and really cares about his students.
Dr Kindt genuinely cares about his students' learning and is accessible outside class via office hours or GroupMe. He also records every lecture and posts his slides. He sometimes struggles to "dumb down" the material into simple terms, but you will be fine if you go to office hours.
Even though the class is big, Dr. Kindt does a great job at getting through the material. He also posts the every lecture presentation so you don't have to worry about missing class. He is also open for office hours multiple times per week which is helpful
Dr. Kindt was a very understanding professor overall. However, I felt he struggled to teach the content for his Chem 150 class in a way we could understand. His lectures often confused me more. Overall, I would say this is a pretty difficult course if you did not take AP Chemistry in high school. Go to LA sessions and schedule tutoring sessions!
Not the best lecturer, but I found he didn't need to be because of all of the outside of class recourses. The tests were very fair, highly suggest using the worksheets to study. All classes are recorded, making it easy to miss classes
Professor Kindt was very accessible outside of class, but that was his only good quality. His lectures were boring and monotone, and his slides were very disorganized and hard to follow. I would recommend taking McGill or Brathwaite if you can for Chem 150, but if not, Kindt is an ok option. Just be prepared to do most of the learning on your own.
Professor Kindt was very accessible outside of class, but that was his only good quality. His lectures were boring and monotone, and his slides were very disorganized and hard to follow. If you're taking Chem 150, try to take Brathwaite or McGill, but if not, Kindt is an ok option. Just be prepared to do most of the learning on your own.
His class is pretty boring and he can explain things in the confusing way that took you longer time that you actually need, to understand the basic concept. It would be better if u just check out the youtube videos about everything and do the worksheets.
Generally not a bad professor, but he simply gets off track a lot. He spends 10 minutes of each class talking about bees and tends to get behind on the lectures. He often talks about chemistry knowledge not relevant to the section too and is hard to understand. However, he records all the lectures and attendance is not graded.
Hard to get excellent grades, but overall good professor.
Very sweet guy. However, he spends too much time talking about irrelevant topics that will not show up on exams, leaving not enough time to talk about material that will actually be on the exam. His lectures are a bit monotone. Save the bees though!
He is so underated. He is the nicest teacher and really loves helping his students. His lectures are a little boring but if you sit in the front you will be much more engaged.
BORING CLASS
He's okay but expect to learn most on your own. I didn't follow well with his style of explaining things. We also fell behind other sections, and concepts that needed thorough explanation would be rushed near the end of class. Grading is straightforward and clear. My biggest struggle was how impossible it was to reach him via email.
He is ok but the tests are hard and Chem 202 is an overall pain so you have to work hard. He is accessible out of class though although his lectures are hard to stay awake for.
He's very accessible and cares about student. Reach out to him if you have any questions and he responds really quickly.
Dr. Kindt doesn't deserve all these review bombs- he's a solid professor who is enthusiastic about chemistry. His class is structured and predictable, though lectures get long and difficult. He's very sweet and you can tell he cares about his students. Pay attention in the lecture, use the resources available, stay on task and you'll be good.
After AP in high school, I took Kindt for Chem 150 and had a decent experience. However, in 202 with harder material, I had a rough time. He sucks at lecturing and is bad at explaining things. Nice and intelligent guy, and you'll be fine if you have him- that being said, strive for McGill.
Took AP Credit, 202 was my first chem class, overall nice teacher that is very knowledgeable, always very responsive on the GroupMe and hosts a lot of office hours. Content was alright, he is very lecture heavy, sometimes rants, but covers the basics of what you need to know- a lot of outside studying in order to be prepared for the exams
Took Chem 150 and 202 with Kindt, attended office hours regularly and that's where you can get more individualized attention. Very lecture heavy and can get confusing because he moves through the slides, so outside work needs to be done for sure. He's very smart, so sometimes has trouble dumbing the material down. Take him if you can't get McGill.
Second semester at Emory, and was my favorite chemistry professor so far. He is extremely accessible through Groupme chats, emails and office hours. The course was confusing at times, but it's more because the content is new(202 is often your first introduction to organic chemistry) and less because he sucks at teaching. Would definitely recommend.
Dr. Kindt was great at explaining the concepts covered even if he occasionally went on tangents unrelated to the topics at hand. He was also very accessible and made it easy to understand what was necessary for the exams.
So sweet and nice. But I don't recommend him to first-year students like me who do not have a good background in chemistry. He didn't make the concepts easy to understand and the lectures felt long and boring. But if you have good studying skills, you will do fine with the high-quality study resources the chem 150-202 department provides.
He is pretty much how people describe him. His class is the biggest of the chem classes so it's difficult to pay attention and his lectures are a bit boring. The exams are standardized so as long as you do some work by yourself take him. He is SO helpful outside of class go to his office hours they are much better!!! He responds to emails quickly!
I loved Kindt. The class was hard but that's because chemistry is hard. Go to his office hours they are so much better than lectures. He responds to emails and genuinely wants to help students. Lots of people go for McGill and she is also great but VERY LOUD. Both are good options.
Kindt is okay, at best. You can tell he tries. I wish I could give him a higher rating but, I genuinely felt so unsupported by the chemistry department. This course is also geared for people who have taken chem but I didn't before coming to college.
Kindt is genuinely overhated imo. Even though the class is very large, Kindt really cares about students doing well and is really helpful in office hours/groupme. His lectures can be a bit dry but the content is good and will give you the info you need. Chem is just a hard subject and needs lots of studying independent of lectures.
Very smart guy but sooooo boring to listen to. The bees were really fun though!
accessible outside of class and kind too speak to. Pre-lecture stuff helps minimally and mainly learns through lecture. Practice problems are limited and aren't really representative of test materials.
