he's a pretty decent guy, really knows his stuff. his lecture's pretty boring, although he does try his hardest to maintain interest. he has some good stories, like how he got caffeine poisoning... i recommend him.

Pretty easy professor, I only studied for his exams for about 2 hours before the exams and got a B on them all, the final has a lot of information on it though. He curves grades at the end of the year, I got B's on all of my tests but still got an A in the class, I would definatley take him again.

Hilarious man/incredibly interesting! If you read the assignments before lectures you'll realize his stories have a point, making his class not boring, contrary to what these other people say. The final is the hardest (a lot of memorization). I got an A. He curves. Attend class to answer test ?'s!!!

Krupa has his own style of teaching and if you can't keep up you will get lost. He knows what he is talking about and is very passionate about it. The tests are tricky but he does tell you what to expect on them.

Easy class. Test questions are extremely tricky. No homework at all. Mess up one test and you've got a tough grade to overcome. Only 3 tests for 100 points each in class. Also, you never truly no your grade due to curving at the end. Easy b though overall. Tough a due to tricky questions, even if you attend regularly.

Had him twice. 103 is much more interesting than 102 I think. For 102: no book, shows a lot of slides. Take good notes, go to class and get notes from days you miss, STUDY, and tricky exam questions won't seem as awful. For 102 and 103 he seems to enjoy asking LOTS of questions on the worksheets he hands out before the final. Study the study guide

Very straight forward. You know what's gonna be on the tests if you just look at the study guides. Go to class and you'll get at least a B. Study for the tests and you'll get an A. 88 is an A.

I laughed when I saw that some people thought Krupa was "weird" or "boring." Krupa is very interesting. You can tell that he really enjoys science and his enthusiasm makes the class interesting. I guess since he doesn't care about bonging a beer that makes him boring.

Sort of a weird guy (apparently he ate a roadkill bobcat once), but pretty interesting. Tests are really hard, and if you don't go to class you definitely won't do well. Good class overall I would say, but his lectures tend to get pretty boring, especially if you're in an hour and fifteen minute one instead of a fifty minute one.

I had Krupa all year long and he's easily become one of my favorite professors. I don't think his class is over the top difficult, rather they are a true example of how a college course is more difficult than those of high school. Make sure to attend every class and take good notes. Study hard (not cram) and you should be fine.

Bio 102 is the easiest class i have ever taken. Although attendence and good notes are a requirement, the class is extremely easy. There is no writing involved. Grades consisted of only three multipule choice tests.

I LOVE his class!!He was weird but intersting.The people who didn't do well in the class are the people who didn't come to class.There is no textbook.The exams can be tricky but if you go to class and study then you will be ok. There are only 3 exams but he grades on a curve so if you stay above the class average, you'll do great! Loved Him!!!

Honestly, don't listen to people who say he is hard and tricky. If you go to class and take the notes or get them from someone else and study them then you will do good. He's a cool teacher and at least 25% of the class gets an A so thats not bad.

Jim Krupa is the man ive never learned so much from a person and although he is opinionated he is brilliant and informative! I highly recommend taking his class, as long as you go to class and take even a decent amount of time to study its an easy A.

Good Class

This is one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. There are no textbooks and the books he assigns you don't even really have to read to do well on the exams. Just show up for class, pay attention, study about an hour for each exam and you'll do fine.

I had Krupa for 102 and 103. He is really passionate and very knowledgeable when it comes to the subject matter. I really enjoyed 103 and only missed the last day of class. For 102 I attended sporadically and got a D. You really must go to class but it is enjoyable and extremely easy if you attend, even if you don't like Biology!

Krupa was a very good teacher. Do not take him however if you are dumb or do not enjoy learning. If you pay attention to him, which is easy to do, studying for him is a breeze and the tests which can be hard for some people are easy if you pay attention.

Okay class, I hate biology and I still came out with an A because the tests somewhat hard even if you go to class but the way he grades is SO easy and helpful! Easy readings too. My only complaint is that I think he is insane. He was so excited to have us eat bug suckers...really? I personally think he is immautre although he knows his stuff.

Do NOT take this professor if you expect an A or B. VERY unclear about what will be on tests. Funny guy though and kind of interesting class. You dont have to go at all if you dont want to. But if you can get another teacher, thats what I suggest.

For 102 & 103, take Krupa. He's tricky on exams but read the books, know the ex. questions on the study guide, and the study guide itself then you'll get a nice curve on your grade. He definitely makes the class interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory but you need to go so you have the material. I would buy the Kentucky Class Notes for reviewing.

I took Krupa for 103, and although he gets off on tangents frequently and likes calling himself a ratt ****, He's definetly a professor to take. His examples given in class are super helpful and interesting. The books are not a complicated read and help a lot on the exams. overall excellent professor, funny too!

I took him for 102 & 103. He was funny & made the class interesting. He tells a lot of stories & uses real pictures for descriptions. I had to take an I in the course due to illness & he was very helpful & kind about the situation. Tests can be a bit tricky but it's doable. You must be able to apply the information, not just memorize.

Awesome teacher with a true love for teaching and evolution. Class was always great to go to. Gives weekly quizzes, but trust me, reading and doing well on the quizzes helps with the tests since quiz questions will be on the test. Great Professor. There is a reason hes the only one who teaches Evolution. Has won awards and it shows.

He is by no means a bad professor at all. No reason to hate whatsoever. What I HATE about taking Evolution was his grading policy. He'll take off points on quizzes and tests equivalent to a questions worth if you do not put the right section or ID number. Who does that? Exams are easy as long as you memorize diagrams in class and in the textbook.

Very funny professor. Easy quizzes, hard exams. This course needs a lot of reading. If you get good grades on recitation and the quizzes, your overall grade will go high up. He also drops the 2 or 3 lowest quizzes.

Krupa is an amazing lecturer but his tests are just highly specific and downright unfair. He hates giving good grades (likes to keep his test average at about a 75). He does have an ego but is hilarious at times. Bio majors, evolution is required and the only thing I hated about the class was practically being unable to get an A.

He has taken up the mantle of the many UK professors before him that defended evolution, and I deeply admire that. Krupa is an amazing lecturer. He does not post the powerpoints from his lectures, and he is a very lecture heavy professor. Be sure to read the textbook before class to understand everything that he is saying. He often uses anecdotes as examples. He is an overall good professor. He likes to give examples in class and those examples will probably be on the test. He gives pop quizzes, but usually, he'll give you the answers for them, they are more to make sure you are coming to lecture. He gives off a tough vibe but he's actually pretty nice one-on-one.

Even if you read the entire chapter needed for the quiz that day, some of the questions are way too picky. Read the textbook carefully and look at all images!

If you put effort into recitation and show up for class quizzes, you will be fine even though exams are pretty challenging.

Professor Krupa has such a passion for teaching evolution and it really comes through in his lectures. He incorporates lots of funny, personal stories throughout class, and it makes time go by really fast. If you take him for evolution you need to do a lot of textbook reading though and his tests ask super specific content questions.

I feel a million times more intelligent after taking his class. Exams are long and theres a lot of content but youll be okay if you study lots!

Dr. Krupa is a delight to listen to during lectures. He clearly loves his field and students, though he can be a bit myopic when it comes to tests. His tests go over specific examples more than overarching concepts which can be a hassle, but I am convinced that if it were not for that, he would have a much higher rating.

Dr. Krupa is very passionate about his field, he likes to recount his experiences while doing field work. I personally find his stories fun and interesting. He likes to interact with the class and often asks questions during lectures. Lectures aren't mandatory but it's best to because of quizzes. Quizzes are over textbook readings and lectures.

Dr. Krupa is great. Calls himself rat bstrd, spends class going on tangents but helps you remember the material with them, bringing in dead birds he finds to class, etc. Highly recommend because he makes a relatively difficult class fun to learn. Read the chapters for the quizzes/exams. Just don't get on ur phone or he'll call u out.

Take this professor if you can. At the beginning he may look hard, but the class is life changing

Krupa is kind of a wack job but in a good way. He gives crazy examples in class and will ask about the specifics of them on the exam along with any other specific part of any example he gives. He is a great and fun professor though and if you read the book and pay attention you will do great.

Krupa was such a great professor and I always enjoyed attending his lectures. His tests could be confusing at times but it was nothing too terrible.

The exams are long and specific, but if you read the textbook and study you will be fine. One of my favorites.

His lectures are great, go to class and take notes because on the exams he puts things that are not on the book. One of the best professors at UK!

What an incredible and odd professor. He's retired now, so you won't have him, but his lecture style was very eccentric and his exams very difficult. However, I do think everyone who passed through the doors of his evolution class was given a true appreciation for the natural world. They don't make 'em like this anymore.
