Laux is one of the best Comm profs I ever had. Too bad I waited till I was a senior to realize it. He is so good at what he does. I am a better person for having been in his class. It was challenging but rewarding as well. He makes you think.

Very tough. Expects the best. No way to slide through this class. All or nothing. He's easily one of the best professors I've had in my lifetime. This is a class that you will come away from having actually learned something and improved yourself.

not sure why his rating is so low/average. He is the most insightful teacher I had in my entire life and a true gentleman. He turned a lazy party animal like me into a dedicated, 3.5QPA student. He is a little tough but always remains fair

Great teacher and great person all around, I have had him for 3 classes and have not earned above a B, but take him because he actaully teaches students instead of powerpoint, as for arrogance, don't confuse that confidence, great teacher

Toughest class i've never had.. his tests as he likes to call them are the "devil" and they really are. I'm a straight A student and yet I seem to get D's on his test. So if you're taking him, good luck!

Awesome prof... he knows what he is talking about. He is very hard working, and expects his students to be, too. Work hard in his class and it will be worth it. He really gets to know his students and is always willing to help(even if it doesn't have to do with his class)!!

The class was harder then hell, but for some reason, I didn't mind working for him. Awesome guy that will help you out with whatever you need.

the class is very difficult if you're as apathetic as i am...but he has a wonderful personality and makes the class extremely enjoyable regardless of its difficulty.

Dr. Laux is a very nice, funny, good-hearted man. That said, his teaching material is rather boring, and somewhat old fashioned. It is all rhetoric, and old movie reels. BUT, it is a very fun class, and easy to pass if you put thought into your essays, and study well for the tests. A moderately difficult class, but highly interesting. Recommended.

Dr. Laux was one of my favorite comm professors. He is a great teacher, a great person, and a great friend. He's a difficult professor, but he's always more than willing to help. I would recommend him to ANYONE!

Uncle Jim, not Jimbo, is a great professor and a wonderful man. He would go out of his way to help anyone. He had just come over from teaching "big wigs" at FORD (I think), how to speak. Man he was tough at times, but he is fair! Helped me jump start my car one winter, after 2 other of my profs had walked by.

Dr Laux helped me to find the degree path that was right for me. he was always there when I had a question. His classes are very difficult as he expects alot from his students. You do however learn a ton. Open your mind and take a Laux class!

awesome teacher-knows how to give a good lecture. Makes things interesting and relates them to things we experience.If you do the chapter review ?'s and take good notes you'll do well on his tests.

One of the Best teachers EVER!!! His class is really hard but if study u'll do ok. He loves is job and was always around if I needed to talk or ask a question about anything. Verrrry Helpfull. Just a really great guy. Take him if u want to learn alot about the subject.

dr laux is one of the best teachers on campus!! he is very understanding and takes his classes very seriously, his tests and exams may be a little demanding but that doesnt mean that he dosnt explain them clearly in class. he makes it his dutie to make all his classes interesting and worthwhile.

Dr. Laux is the best professor i have had here at SRU. He is knowledgable and gives you full feedback on work. He cares about his students and trys his best to help them succeed. Do the work that is expected of you and don't fall behind!

I am an alum and took this class as an elecive one semester. I can honestly say that I had to do more work for this class than any others I took at SRU, but I know that I learned more in this class than any others. Dr. Laux was always willing to help out and answer any questions, but he made you earn your grade, he won't just hand out an A.

Dr. Laux doesn't **** around. Better than most teachers because he refuses to baby you through his course. Though some students might not like earning an A, he helps you out and does his best to insure that you do well. Couldn't have asked for a better guy.

Amazing professor. Class was a joy to have, I would recommend him to anyone. Turn a subject that is boring and dreadful to something that is fun to go through. Great experience, maybe my best at SRU.

if you look through this list youll see a few people say how much they disliked him, say he is arrogant, biased, blah blah...but keep in mind these were probablyleft by people who did not do well in his class and are venting, b/c if you do your work, pay attention, and go to him for help (b/c you prob will need to) youll see he is a great professor

I notice that the people saying bad things are the same people over and over. He warns us about the hard tests, but he has been very funny, helpful, and nice so far

He is such a good Prof. The best I have had so far. Def would advise you to take him. Come to class even tho its not mandatory, take good notes, and study- & u will do great in the class.

take this class, it is very much worth your time. His tests can be difficult but unlike most of the classes at Slippery Rock, you will actually feel acomplished after this course. A very likeable and intelligent man.. Take him!

Very nice man. Attendance isnt mandatory, but unless you go, you wont know when the tests are or some goofy video which has info that will be on the test. He goes over the chapts. in the book, but you still have to read it thoroughly if you want to do well. One of the more challenging classes i've had ever. Still got an A and a felt good about it.

He is an amazing prof. One of the best I have ever had. He is funny and makes class go so fast. Even though he doesn't take attendance it is a class you end up wanting to go to. The best night class I have ever had.

hes not a bad teacher. take him he has to be better than all the rest of the teachers you have 4 speeches and 2 tests. i got an a on the first test and i skimmed the chapters the night before.

Laux is a great guy i have a lot of fun in the class. He cares about his students too so that's a nice plus his test are a little hard but if you read the book and study it shouldn't be to hard and the classes are usually fun with stimulating discussion

Dr. Laux is awesome. Really nice guy and you'll learn a lot from him. It won't be easy, but you won't regret it either.

You will learn more with him as your professor than any other professor. He will push you but in the end its worth it. He always makes time to go above and beyond to help his students. If he teaches something and you didn't understand, he doesn't give you a hassle for asking him to explain it to you again (even after several times). Take him!!!!!!!

He's a great guy. I personally think he should teach philosophy and not communication because you learn more about yourself than communication. I loved the class. I love that he teaches his class as a college course not 13th grade. He won't baby you and thats what so great about his class.

Dr. Laux is a very nice guy and a brilliant teacher. All he wants is for you to try and to be a good student. If you do that, you'll be fine. Took public speaking a little too seriously for being a liberal studies class but it wasn't hard. Read the book and read exam questions carefully, they can be tricky.

As an international student from the Republic of Moldova, I highly enjoyed Dr Laux's classes. I hope to get another opportunity to meet Dr. Laux. We definitely need professors like James Laux in our educational institutions!

Well spoken professor, goes off-topic every class. Likes to refer to his family almost everyday. Enjoys a laugh or two and makes his tests incredibly hard for people like me who read the first 5 pages of every chapter. If I tried harder I could have probably gotten a C or a B.

Dr.Laux is a very classy & intelligent man with a strong family background. He's a very kind person with a good heart. Although he goes off topic almost every class, all you have to do is attend class, take notes, & read the book. The tests are a bit tricky at times, but if you do the work, you'll be perfectly fine. I'd enjoy having him again!

I remember having a few classes with Dr. Laux nearly ten years ago, and he still stands out in my mind as one of the best profs I ever had at SRU. You'd better know your material, though, because you'll be lost if you don't study. His lectures may go a bit tangential at times, but they're always amusing. He changed my life for the better, truly.

He is a hilarious professor and gives great examples. The class consists of 12 reflections which are each one page long related to each chapter in the book and what he talks about in class. He tells you he won't babysit you, so you don't have to be at class, but lecture notes appear on tests. Only 3 tests all 30 mc q's,not a difficult class if read

I had Dr. Laux for several communication courses almost 20 years ago. He still stands out as one of my favorite teachers. He also helped me tremendously when I needed guidance and direction -- even though he was not my advisor, he acted like one. He will always be one of my favorite people. Thanks you Dr. Laux!!

He wants whats best for students and expects a lot from you, but he is a good teacher and will help you anytime you need it. He is kind of intimidating at times but he is very likable once you get to know him. Take him, if you care about your future.

Dr. Laux is easily the best professor I have ever had. You have to work hard in his class to do well, but at the end of the course you feel very accomplished. He makes you want to do well, not for a grade or for him, but for yourself. I have only had him for this course, but plan on taking more courses with him if I am able to!

If you are a lazy student that just wants to learn from power points and take scantron tests, this Laux is not for you. Dr. Laux may talk about himself and his family a lot, but honestly his talks inspired me to work 100 x harder than i ever have for school. I would take him for every class.

If you want an A look elsewhere. This is the hardest class I have taken in my college career and I doubt it will be beaten! He is a great guy and very inspirational, but he is so smart that it seems he makes his class harder than all of the others because he knows other profs take it easy on you. Dr. Laux is an awesome guy. I had him for research methods and while I sometimes questioned the relevance that lectures had to the class, what he had to say was valuable. This class was very hard and I studied for nearly 12 hrs for midterm. Can't stress how awesome he is though. Not an easy A class or teacher though, if thats what you want

Dr. Laux is a very smart, and well rounded guy. Very nice always talks and jokes with students before during and after class But his lecture style of teaching can be very hard to follow and you must be diligent with your reading if your to pass, no notes. Overall a great guy and a pretty decent teacher, will go out of his to help you but is hard..

Dr. Laux is an all-around great guy. His class is pretty hard if you don't read or do what you're supposed to do. As long as you do what needs be done, you will walk out with an A or a B. Dr. Laux is GREAT.

Dr. Laux is definitely a different kind of teacher than I've ever had but he was one of the best I've had. Although he does go off topic very often I was still learning from him. As long as you read the textbook and take notes on it you shouldnt have problem getting an A or B in the class.

Thought he was an extremely nice and helpful when I went to him about my depression and anxiety. He actually makes a fool of me in front of the entire class when I miss because of these problems even though he told me that getting better was more important than the info he taught. Not easy, very big ego, irrelevant classes that are mandatory.

I have never worked so hard in my life for an A, but it was well worth it. He is a great man. He is very entertaining and can at times seem full of himself. If you are looking for an easy A, don't take him. But, if you want to actually learn something and earn the grade you deserve this is your guy. You will without a doubt need the book.

You either love him or hate him, and it all depends on your outlook. If you want an easy A, you won't find one here. However, Dr. Laux is one of the most influential people I've ever met in my life. If you want to learn more than whats in the book he is your guy. I've learned countless life lessons from him, and I couldn't thank him enough.

I've had Dr. Laux for three courses. Comm Concepts, Org Comm, and I then had him for Research Methods, which was the most difficult but rewarding course I've ever taken. So, the guy makes you read? So you're actually learning something? Wow, what a shame. He teaches valuable lessons and makes you work. You'll be proud of yourself. He will be missed

Dr. Laux is a difficult grader, but that's only because he has very high expectations for his students. He's very compassionate, and will do his best to help you if you're willing to help yourself. You'll work hard for the grades you get in his classes, but his lectures will inspire to work hard for yourself, and to do the best you can.

I graduated from SRU in 2002 and Profesor Laux is one of 3 Professors whose names I still remember. I remember how engaging jis classes were and how much fun I had. Professor Laux used to promise at the begining of the semester that he'd never forget your name (maybe he still does this). I'm glad he is still teaching and highly recommend his class.
