Very helpfull, energetic, and funny.
excellent professor, an asset to the communications dept.
He is overall good allowing you to work at your own pace...Attitude kinda pompous and jittery but agin his teaching is at your pace and he is helpful.

Very helpful, enthusiastic, and allows you to work at your own pace. I love Dr. Lenze!
Excellent! Finally, I prof that is conservatice :-) Im sick of all these radical liberals
Friendly, student-centered, and very helpful. Always willing to do whatever he can for his students, and he keeps chocolate bars in his office! If you work hard and pay attention you will do great in his Comm103/301 class. He's overall a nice guy.
very annoying
Not a hard class to grasp, but he doesn't realize that even though males might know more about computers overall it doesn't mean they don't need help. So when you read this James remind yourself that your ****.
Dr. Lenze is an all around great guy!
extremely helpful and lets you do things at your own pace.. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU DO NOT ENJOY PEOPLE PUSHING THEIR VALUES ON YOU... it drove me nuts all semester
Dr. Lenze will do anyhting to help anyone, he is really funny, and I learned a lot in the class. He is a very nice person!
Lenze is the most helpful professor. The only person that should be allowed to teach this class, you'll learn alot and you won't get less than a B. Very funny guy
very helpful prof. really nice and understanding. he lets you work at your own pace. you will learn a lot from lenze.
Very energetic. Does not need to drink coffee in the mornings. He will keep you awake!! Classroom content is perfect for future teachers! i highly reccommend!!
AWESOME PROF! HE LOVES HIS FAMILY AND LOVES HIS STUDENTS!!! VERY ENERGETIC AND INSPIRATIONAL! TAKE HIM...YOU WONT HAVE ANY REGRETS
This guy sucks. His grading policy is terrible. He is very unclear and annoying as hell. If he could teach as much as he preached maybe he would be a good prof. Gave me a d when i deserved a b. I retook the class with another prof and got an a!
Great teacher. Does "preach" a bit, but he tells the truth for your own good. Trust me, being a teacher sucks. He tells it how it is! Very helpful. Go get some chocolate!
Dr. Lenze is one of the best professors I have ever known. The class has easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions, and he is willing to help you. Each class is a workshop, except at the beginning when he explains the next module. Great prof and person!
Dr. Lenze is awesome! He loves his job, and he loves helping his students! I would strongly advise anyone who has the opportunity to take Dr. Lenze to do so. There is a lot of work, but it is fun and very helpful!
Lenze is a nice guy and give you advice in teaching. However, he talks into your workshop time so you often need to go do work somewhere else. He grades easy if you stay up to date with assignments and follow directions. He's really easy so take him.

I learned so much from Dr. Lenze. He takes his job really seriously and he tends to be tough on students. There is a lot of work outside of class but if your serious about this class then getting an a or b shouldn't be a problem!
This guy is a JERK. He is a good teacher, but he preaches way too much, and is very prejudice against people who do not look the way he feels they should. I was one of the top in the class (A), but he said he would never write me a letter of recommendation based on the way I dress. Avoid this man
He is an excellent professor! I would strongly recommend taking him if you ever get the chance.

Hated this class and professor. I am a senior graduating in COMM MEDIA and I never had a problem with any comm classes, I did very well until Lenze. He tends to push his views on people, he judges you for things like dress, appearance, and doesn't care whether or not you do well or not. STAY AWAY
Lenze is a decent guy, but his class really gets me heated. Every single time he lectures, he finds a way to tell all of us that we are going to hell, or manages to lecture about ****s. His ultra-conservative act gets really old after a while. Class is okay though.
He's always willing to help you out with any problems your having. His lectures seem to tell you a lot of b*******, but sometimes they are informative. His final is hard as they come because you have to do a lesson plan, a powerpoint presentation, and a webpage in 2 hrs with no more time alloted.
Take someone else! He tends to talk around helping you, and will spend more time telling you he is available to help then he spends taking time to help. The final is insane no teacher would want to make a lesson plan that poorly devoloped as we are forced to for the final.

If you are black or international student, please avoid this person. He just talks about himself more than his instruction. I liked all of my professor, but his class was a bad dream.
By far, I learned the most out of this class in all my time at IUP. It was a lot of hard work and homework; only because he gets heated about a topic during classroom instruction. He can come off to some people as overpowering and opinionated, but that is what makes him so interesting.Final was difficult, but ended up with an A. I would take him!

I don't get why he has negative ratings? This course was one of the easiest ones I've ever had. Quizzes are beyond easy and so are the tests. He's very clear about the standards in the class, if you're wondering if you should take him or not you should! It's an easy A as long as you show up...
Take him if you can for this class. He is very helpful and grades fair. I heard the other professor is not nearly as good as this Lenze. I hear a lot of complaints about the other professor, but Lenze is terrific, just show up to class and the rest is a cake walk. He reviews all the assignments before they are due so you can get a perfect grade
Wonderful caring prof. he will help you everyway he can, regaurdless of who you are, or what you look like. He is a terrific prof. happy to help you at any time. Dr. Lenze wants you to be the best teacher you can be, and he's willing to help you get there. He stresses being professional when you are teaching, and that is good. I recommend him most.
There are not many people who i dislike.. but this man is horrible...all he cares about is his own viewpoints and no one elses... if you miss classes dont expect to pass.. and if your not doin well in his class he will definatly not help you out.. do me a favor and take another proff
Dr. Lenze is awesome. The only people who complain about him are those people not willing to work for their grade! Sure, he is opinionated. But while Dr. Lenze does get on his soapbox about what makes good teachers - he has good good reason! If you can't handle being told the truth DON'T take this class!
This man is horrible. He cares about himself more than anything else in this world.Dont expect to pass if he does not like your background, he is not a good helper when you need him to help.
If you have to take this course, take this professor. There's a lot of work, but it's the same work load for every other professor. He's pretty understanding with things. If you read the modules and do exactly what the book tells you, you'll pass his class.
Very conceided and focused on religion and himself....not on teaching. Don't even think of asking a question because he refuses to answer. Miss a class, but do excellent on assignments and he will fail you. If he likes you, your personal views and appearance you'll pass, if you are not conforming to him you fail! take another prof to learn comm
I loved Dr. Lenze! He was so easy. Im not sure what all the other people are talking about. He lets you miss 8 classes (however 5 you must turn in notes). If your going to miss more than 8 classes why even be enrolled in the class. He also gives extentions, which dont hurt your grade all at. All you have to do it ask for its due. Take Dr. Lenze EAS
Arguably one of the best profs on campus. I wasnt sure how much I would like the class at first but it was awesome. you work at your own pace within reason. it seems like there is so much to do but there is suprisingly not that much. and its easy because these are basic computer skills you should know by now anyways. I wish I could take him again.
Jimbo rocks. He's a cool guy. He makes me laugh which says a lot because most of the profs are stuffy old foggies. Sure he is opinionated, but guess what. He's a professor! He professes. That's his job. The 10 minutes per class he talks isn't gonna kill you. He's nice to a fault. I would fail half the class with some of their rediculous questions.
Hes a terrible and unfair teacher. If he doesnt like you then watch out. I personally have never had a teacher that was worse as a teach or person then this guy
This professor is terrible.Acts like he cares about students, but when it comes to asking him for help, he just tells you:see instructions, which are also unclear. Avery unfair grader. I spent hours on his assignments and it still was not what he wanted.
heavy workload, but enough tiem to do it. extensions. but, even though i had over 100% in his class, he still proceeded to tell me i was not doing enough work adn was not good enough to ever get a teacign job. told me i would flip burgers the rest of my life. he berates you in most classes, then expects you to respect his teachings
Seems nice at first, but if you are not really good with computers or have a lot of questions he then is not so cooperative. Very heavy work load and some inappropriate online teaching tools. I would not take him again. EVER!
This guy will weed out any half-baked, low-life loser that thinks they want to be a teacher. Wake up, have some INTEGRITY, do what he says and you'll get an A. Final is stressful and yea, this guy tells it like it is. If your failing he'll tell you to not even come for the final, focus on your other classes and change majors. I respect him for that
Im surprised so many people dislike him. Ive only had him for this one online class, but so far he seems like a cool guy!
One of the 1st things he told us was that he was a fundamentalist, reborn Christian. This should NOT be a part of a college lecture. There was no room for creativity or viewpoints different than his. He also once said that going to another culture was worse than finding out that his kid had cancer. Such a small worldview! Indoctrination 101.
He'll offer to look at the work you've done on your projects so far, but he won't tell you everything that he wants changed. He's easy to understand, but he has extremely high expectations. Too high for an intro to technology class.
This professor can be funny at times, and when he comments on things, they shouldn't be taken so seriously. His class can be easy at times, and even though he seems tough, he'll help you out if you need it. Just do the work.
Never again.
This man is a JOKE. Arrogant, rude, loud and annoying do not even begin to describe him. He brags half the class about how smart he is, then spends 10 mins on his cell with his wife, then spends the last few mins. tellin you about all the work he wants you to do on stuff he didn't teach. Too busy talking about his great family and how smart he is.
I loved Dr. Lenze! I had him for 201. He gives you workshop time in class and he hands out bonus like its candy. I would definitely recommend him to comm majors, and even if you aren't a comm major take this class it is interesting :)
He is not terrible. He makes every attempt to try and help you. The way he divides up the groups is horrible though. GET IN A STRONG GROUP!!His views come into play during his lectures bu he tries to show both sides. Defiantly has no problems stating his views on you, and you gotta learn how to adapt. 5 exams and not easy. Know your stuff well!
MAKE SURE YOU GET INTO A STRONG GROUP!! He gives you a test to determine what group you are in. Take the extra time and study. He plays favorites BAD. Great if he loves you. Creates a certain standard for assignment deadlines, but never has the drop box open. Never has work graded in a timely fashion. His attendance policy isn't bad though.
Dr. Lenze is easy, for Comm 150, at least. The only unfair thing I had a problem with was we were put into groups by him. I got stuck with a crap group but we still got 100s on all the projects. People say his tests are hard, but I don't think they realizes that over half of them were open notes. As long as you do what he wants, you're fine.
He is the best professor in the COMM department by far. One thing I'll always remember about him was his speech on the last day of class. "Your school and degree stays with you, no matter where you end up." Story of his class. It will challenge you to make yourself better. I'm not a COMM major, just a minor and I learned a ton. Top notch professor.
lets just say i will try to avoid him for the rest of my college life, it's possible to fail this class without it being your fault....PRAY YOU GET A STRONG GROUP!!!
The group assignments were fun. All A's on them for the most part. It's the exams that are terrible. He gives you the biggest study guide in the world "no exaggeration" and expects you to know everything on there for a 15 minute quiz with 20 q's on them. It's online but u have to go to lab hours to be supervised so there is no cheating..
Dr. Lenze is somebody I will remember forever. He is everything that is great about higher education. His group work is a pain sometimes, but a lot of the work is pretty simple. I earned a solid A in his course. Take it from him! Learn how to work in groups. Exams are simple if you study. Make flashcards online, just like he says to do. Top notch.
now i adore Lenze he is dedicated, and committed to his profession although soemtimes he jumps on a soap box and if you listen to him religiously it can be soul sucking. Lenze is an instructional designer which is a very technical profession stuck in corporate america so if your very creative take his rants with a grain of salt.
This class is how you make it; if you work hard then you get a good grade, if you slack off then you fail. Even if you get stuck in a group that is not the most talented, you can still pass with a good grade as long as you do the work. Lenze himself is very entertaining and he gets excited when the students get involved.
unorganized teacher, didn't learn much in the class.
Take COMM 150 over the summer online. Class is boring, attendance is mandatory b/c everything is actually in the book or on lecture notes. Teaching materials are also out of date. Sends a lot of emails and is unclear. Tests usually have errors.
Extremely religious, and lets that seep into his classes. This is highly unprofessional.
Entire class based on group work, hard tests, long boring lectures, sometimes funny yet redundant (born again christian joke), thinks everybody wants to beis a director. You need to work for your grade. He is fair but strict. I get a 2.95 and higher on average and i am not super smart, yet i worked hard and got an A+.
Class was really easy, especially with the amount of extra credit he gives. Attendance counts, big time. He's also really helpful, go to his office hours if you need guidance with your projects. Show up to class, do the work, easy A.
Overall a great professor. Really inspires you to put hard work into everything you do. Treats the class like it's your job. If you can't work in groups, you should probably change your major. Takes attendance via TopHat.
He's a great teacher. It's a great class. I took his class as a prerequisite for other Comm classes. The class is based around a group project. He is a little crazy and after the few classes you think he is a great human being. But once the lectures start you get bored and he comes off a little rude and condescending. But he is a great teacher.
Dr. Lenze was one of the most personable, genuine, and passionate professors I had. He certainly sets a high bar, but he wants the best from his students. He can be a bit Hot or Cold sometimes with mood. Although, I attribute all my success to his wisdom. He stays current with cutting edge research in the field. Make him your advisor if possible.
Hands down the worst teacher I have EVER had in my entire high school/college career. His grading is totally random and when you bring it up to him he'll make up nonsense as to why he gave you that grade. Entire class is based off group assignments and if you he doesn't like you or your group you can't get above a D.
None of the info in lecture will be on the exams. No one even bothers to take notes. Yells a lot, so keep away from a morning class with him. He's pretty annoying. And also dumb, my group for our annual projects have corrected him almost every lecture on the incorrect information he gives out. He told us the director of The Godfather was Spielberg.
Unfortunately you have to take his 150 class since he's the only professor. If you're bad at group projects you're gonna have a bad time
Dr. Lenze is great. He really knows what he is talking about and it very passionate about his job! If you're a comm media major, the class is enjoyable. The whole semester is a group project, but if you get a good group you'll be fine! He is very honest and gives great feedback! If you miss attendance you lose so many points!
Overly harsh with his grading. Says he cares about students but will say no to your face the second you need something to make videos. Annoyingly manic in his lectures. Very selective and biased with content he "deems" to be good. Overly religious and lets it guide his lectures. *He does give you chocolate on occasion though
This guys crushes any creative flow that you attempt to have. I took this class for my minor, and as an English major (now English graduate student) I would not recommend this man for any class. He is the most pretentious professor I've had the misfortune to learn from.
Hard class not gonna lie. He's very fair though, you're put into groups at the beginning of the semester and those are your groups for the rest of the class. It's important to get along with your group. Show up to class. Read the textbook for tests or else you'll fail. Really caring prof though, he genuinely wants to help his students.
I really liked having Dr. Lenze as a professor because during his lectures he would get hyped about them. He would be very excited while lecturing. He does give out a lot of bonus points.
He can often be obnoxious and imposing, but I think he means well (in his own way) The class is lecture heavy and easy to coast thru, and my god does he give extra credit. I seriously had a D going into the last week and ended up with an A
When I took Dr. Lenze's class, I hated it. I really disliked him, and working in groups was awful. When he became the internship coordinator, and I was struggling to find opportunities, he sat down with me on multiple occasions and was really awesome. He's a good guy, just very religious, loud, and make you work to get good grades.
Lenze is the definition of tough but fair. He treats his students like they'll be treated by employers to best prepare them for a career. Very strict grading guidelines, but always specific and thorough. Grades attendance so don't skip. He's tough because he truly cares. I've learned a lot from him. Be professional and you'll have no problems.
Dr. Lenze is a very fair professor. He lays out all that you will be doing in the semester on D2L and even goes into the specifics. Just follow his guidelines and you'll get a good grade. It may seem pointless at times (especially when he makes you sign in BLUE ink. He will hold you to that), but I would definitely take him again!
tough but fair for sure. he stands by the idea that no one improves without constructive criticism so if you dont like that youre in trouble. no final, its a bonus opportunity. its an easy class to pass if you care about your major or minor.
He treats you how you will be treated in the real world, if this scares you grow up. Such an inspiration and will really open your eyes, he is ALWAYS available for feedback, utilize it! You use both texts for the tests, use them. He is a tough grader but will usually budge if he knows you do good work. One of the best profs!
I took COMM 207 this year and while it was extremely difficult, but Dr. Lenze made the class much easier. He has weekly deadlines and a lot of work per week but he is extremely knowledgeable about the subject of managing social media. He is always available to help you and has plenty of office hours. I would definitely take his class again!
I really disliked Dr. Lenze. Very loud. Unnecessarily strict and unforgiving attendance policy. Is not open to new ideas because he has such an inflated opinion of himself and his knowledge. Doesn't care because he's tenured. His "this is how the real world is" act is very inaccurate. Claimed you could get fired for getting cancer and doing chemo.
He gives lots of extra credit opportunities. He's a bit tough, but if you go and talk to him about grades or any trouble you're having he is SUPER reasonable. The good thing is as much as you work in groups, you get evaluated by your group members and get a grade that way. So essentially if you have a slacker, you can call them out!
He is very respectful and gives excellent feedback. He may seem strict, but he treats you how you will be treated in a professional setting. He is understanding and only sets realistic expectations, but don't slack off. Cares a lot about his students' success and is always availible for advice. He will give you the grade you deserve.
Tough but fair. Doesn't care about your feelings and tells you like it is
Professor Lenze's ego grows by the year. He believes that his word is true in the business, when the workplace he preaches to know about changes very often and his views are horribly outdated. He assigns a large group project and if you can't work with your group, he doesn't help you. You have to work alone and do just as much.
The whole class is based off a group project and you basically work with people the whole semester. The quizzes are easy but the project itself is very tedious and he likes things the way he wants them. His feedback is sometimes passive aggressive but he means well. I think he really cares about the work and passion you put into your work.
Will give you a 0 on a paper if its not to his exact specifications.
I loved his class. He was clear and concise on what needed to be done. He will grade you hard, but the feedback is helpful on what is asked of you. He is always willing to help and wants you to reach out to him. He cares for his students. However, he is very assertive in his lectures.
Lenze is tough on you ask for criticism, but nicer when grading. The whole semester is based off one group project, so if you get a group that doesn't care, you have to pick up the slack. He is very particular and it was frustrating, but gives A TON of extra credit.
Dr. Lenze probably won't be everyone's cup of tea. He's also pretty intense for a 100 level class. You'll learn a lot and make some friends for sure though because the whole class is a giant group project. Absolutely DO NOT let your group members or yourself fall behind though, it would be very hard to catch up.
Dr. Lenze seems tough at first, but his class is the easiest (and biggest waste of time). He does not require attendance on Wednesdays and Fridays, but will complain on Mondays that students don't show up. The class content is pretty much complicated words for simple ideas. TL;DR of the class - pay attention to how media controls your life.
Dr. Lenze may seem a little intimidating at first, but it's just for show. This class in particular is made up of one long group project, so as long as you put effort in, you should be fine! He also offers lots of extra credit and gives you plenty of days off class.
Lenze himself is a nice, dedicated, understanding professor and he will work with you. COMM 150 itself is pretty is easy but stressful-- group projects, deadlines, and it's almost required to get out of your comfort zone. overall I would recommend this course if its aligned with your future goals in media
Dr. Lenze is very funny, but often complains about attendance (although he doesn't require attendance on Wed. and Fri., only Mon.). Tests are open-note and online. Strict about grading, good luck if you're sick on Mondays. Every so often gives some old-fashioned rant about 'kids these days'.
Definitely started caring less, as he is retiring next semester. Overall cool guy, but he says some eyebrow-raising comments and goes on tangents unrelated to the course. No showed one of the classes and called off another after 15 minutes. His quizzes are wonky too, so you have to pay attention to the lectures.
Dr. Lenze overall is a nice guy, but you can tell his effort started to lack as he is retiring. He only held class on Monday and Wednesday, with an online quiz on Fridays. He's very strict about not giving extensions or make-up work. Group work every single week as well. He does give a large bonus at the beginning to cover some absences.
Professor Lenze runs a tough but rewarding class. The group project is challenging, but engaging. While the workload can be intense, using resources like unstuckstudy for study prep really helps. Overall, a worthwhile course if you're up for the challenge.
The class is extremely easy. The only reason I gave him a 2 is because of the messed up things he said about the "real world". This rate is kinda pointless because this is his last semester of teaching, but the class itself is actually interesting.
Overall Kind of just a rude person. Will not help you out in anyway, easy class but dont you dare have any personal matter happening out of class, he will not be understanding. Would not take him again for anything.
