He doesn't care about his students, even when more than half are failing.

Can't understand him, he doesn't help you, and labs are a joke.

The only word he knew was Example , unfortunately, that's not what he'd show

Worst professor at JMU! Tests are impossible and on stuff we never went over in class. Hes also very hard to understand (except for the word accordingly). I got an A in high school in calculus and almost failed this man's class. Avoid at all costs!

he's a smart man but he cannot teach at all.he barely speaks english which makes it more difficult to understand the math that he's teaching.his curves are huge but they bring people from an F to a C. do not take him unless youre super good with calc

He is by far the worst teacher here at JMU. I am a straight-A junior who pulled a D in his class. His lectures are useless, he is hard to understand, his tests are much harder than the homework and he gets aggrivated when you ask questions. Avoid this guy like the plaugue.

Math is not an easy subject to teach and if we derive a function from James Liu we would get a complex formula full of holes and ****, simply put he can simplfy his tests so much more but chooses not too.

All I can say is get out while you can. This man is by far the worst teacher I've come across in my 19 years. He cannot teach and he teaches things that are defintily not introductory to calculus. He truly sucks so don't end up like me.

by far the worst teacher i have come across in my life....and i was in his class for 2 days. this man speaks english about as well as yao ming. his notes are exactly from his stupid ass book and never explains one thing. avoid this man like the AIDS virus!!!

Sounds like he is speaking, Asian. Not very clear at all. Test have like 11 questions so it is very hard to do well. Do NOT recommand taking.

Stay away, the worst professor I have ever been taught by in my entire life. If I were smart enough, I would have dropped the class after the first few days. When you get the tests back, some people get in the 20's and 30's- its terrible.

honestly... this is the worst teacher i have ever come accross. first of all, it doesn't even sound like he is speaking english. i should have realized this at the beginning of the semester when about half the class dropped it. there is 4 tests and they are the only grades and they are HARD. i got straight A's in math in high school, but not now!!!

Seriously, this guy is horrible. I don't usually go by what it says on here, but I wish I had looked at this before taking this class. I failed the tests after studying like a maniac. He acts like he's above you and you can barely understand him. DO NOT take his class if you want to pass...

Really bad professor, not even kidding. So hard to understand and basically just reads from the coursepack and doesn't elaborate on anything. Granted I'm not the best at math, but I failed every test because the questions are way harder than what is done in class. The class is SO boring and I dreaded it everyday. DO NOT TAKE HIM!

Basically, hes the worst teacher at this school and I'm not even kidding you. You cannot understand the man and his teaching methods are so weird. I learned how to do all this stuff in my AP classes in high school, but he only lets you use his weird japanese methods of solving math. DO NOT TAKE AT ANY COST. DROP DROP DROP!

As I'm sure you've been seeing, this isn't an easy class. After the first few classes you can start to understand what he says, but what he says often doesn't make sense mathematically. Lectures are straight from his book, he just copies and pastes it onto the board. Try to avoid if you can. If not, consider dropping after the first test.

worst teacher at JMU. for one thing he doesnt speak english. he speaks engrish. you might as well just read the book instead of going to class cause its the exact same. doesnt really explain anything. i would avoid him at all costs. if your asian you can probably do well in this class but if your not then you're out of luck.

Arguably the worst professor at JMU, no joke. Avoid this man like the plague.

this guy is a tough professor. talks quiet and is hard to understand. he doesn't explain the solutions very well. teaches right from the book. be prepared to teach yourself the material.

Mr. Liu is a very confusing teacher, and should be avoided at all costs. If you do not sit in the front few rows you will not hear him at all. He teachers straight from the book and does not explain or provide examples to help you through the class. If you do not find tutoring for this class, you are screwed.

As long as I can withdraw.... then everything will be alright.

Where to begin. Liu is a nice guy, he just can't teach his way out of a paper bag. If you can understand Japanese at a whisper you will do fantastic! I had to reteach myself everything in order to get semi good grades on the tests. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS! But he is still a nice guy.

Worst professor i have ever had. You can never understand him and he is a terrible teacher. He never answers your questions because he cannot understand what you are asking. Stay away. It is not worth it. If you get him get out and take someone else before you waste half a semester because you will withdraw from this class.

not a good teacher, cant understand him. not worth taking his class because it will only bring down your gpa. doesnt help you with questions and teaches from the book and his methods are difficult to understand. went to the math center everday after class to learn the material.

He teaches straight from the book, but you cannot understand like anything at all. He is a VERY harsh grader-takes points off for very very little things, especially if they aren't done his way. Good news, he curves the grades. No homework is collected, but he assigns a lot. Also hard to understand. Wouldn't recommend him. Switch if you can

Nice guy, but AVOID HIS CLASS!!! He mumbles everything he says and doesn't explain things well. VERY HARSH GRADER!!! Good news is that he curves, but it may not help you much. On my tests I would get the answer right but he'd take off points anyway just because I didn't use his theorums for solving the equations. Again, AVOID HIM!

Don't get me wrong, Professor Liu is a nice guy but GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN! This class is so boring. There are three tests consisting of five questions but everything is curved. By far the worst professor!!! He can't speak english at all, so chances are you won't understand him. He made up his own book and every single note he gives in class comes directly from it. A point gets taken off your overrall grade for every absence you have. This class will definitely put you to sleep! DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE!

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLASS! i had a 95 A in calculus in high school and just got a 50 on lui's test. the tests are IMPOSSIBLE. attendance is mandatory and all he does during class is rewrite the book onto the board and mumble. most pointless class ever, bringing down my gpa. STAY AWAY!

This guy speaks English, but he is really hard to understand. He wrote the book you learn out of... & all he does is rewrite what is in the book on the board. Most people i know got 40's on the first test, if u get him & can't switch out, just study your butt off... you either do that problems his way or don't get much credit. u can argue for point

Thought that Math 205 would be easier than 235. BIG MISTAKE. Well at least with Liu. I recommend switching professors with ANYONE else. This was the first math class I have ever gotten a bad grade in. Now I have to waste a Repeat-Forgive on it... He is almost incomprehensible in class and tests have stuff you don't learn in class.

This teacher is horrible!! do not take him! you cannot understand a word he says, and his class is difficult. I took a test from a different teacher in the same level of math just for fun and did so much better. So if you do badly, then its not your fault. but I suggest to get out now and find a different teacher.

Today I asked Dr. Liu to solve a simple textbook example that he had previously shown us in class. He stood over me and stared at the problem for a solid 15 minutes and didn't speak a word. Very awkward. Finally I told him I had to leave and he got really excited because I knew he didn't know how to do it.

He copies the whole book to his "notes" and everything straight to the board without even explaining anything.Cant wait to write his eval haha.Prolly still gonna get an A because the highest in the class is a 70 lol. but I heard he is really good at ping pong though so if you are into that then go for it

Worst teacher i've EVER had. I wish i had dropped it the first week but i couldn't. First 2 tests for me were horrible; 46/100 and 47/100 and by that time it was too late to withdraw. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR!

I played liu in ping pong once. He's okay at it but don't let his asianness fool you. I thought he'd be like a chinese master but I managed to beat him in 1 out of 3 sets and I'm just alright

You'll hate yourself for taking anything with Dr. Liu. Worst class I've ever taken at JMU by far, and I like most of the math department.

Prof. Liu is seriously one of the worst teachers I have ever had in my entire life He has extremely broken english and he talks very quietly. He teaches directly from the book he wrote himself. He takes points off for getting the right answer if you dont do it his way. I took AP calc in HS..and wouldnt have passed otherwise. HORRIBLE TEACHER.

Had to drop the class before the first test cause I knew I had no chance whatsoever. Too hard to understand, boring classes, boring book, and overall hard material. You had better be a math wiz if you want a good grade in this class.

This professor cancelled class halfway through the semester, and chose to cancel the 4th class of the week even though this class is 4 credits. No hw, no quizzes, and three tests. He can't speak coherent English and he gives almost NO help in office hours. Unless you can learn directly from a book, don't enroll in this class with Liu.

Just plain terrible. The worst professor I've ever had. Made the easiest class at JMU tough to pass.

I haven't thought about Liu in years. I graduated a few years ago and now I'm applying to MBA programs and am having to explain why my otherwise good record shows an F for Calculus. I remember getting the cold shoulder when I attempted to meet during office hours. The pamphlet of a textbook ,bound by construction paper, no HW, was a disaster.

If you value your time and tuition money, take another class. Liu destroys GPAs out of sheer laziness and lack of effort to help his students.

I went in this class saying, it's the easiest math class, not superb at math but when I'm taught it well i can get a B. He is hard to understand.He does NOT teach. tried to teach myself, he writes EXACTLY whats in the book. Killing my gpa.Ask for further explanation, get a head nod/told whats on the board.afraid I'll fail due to a poor professor.

Before taking Liu's class I read the reviews and understood that Id have to be responsible for myself, but I didn't know that was impossible. DO NOT BE LIKE ME. hes nice but too smart to teach. Tutors dont even understand why he marks off points on tests. Your grade is determined by 4 tests. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. SWITCH UR SCHEDULE IF NEEDED.
