Dr.Lodolce is loves his pictures! Class is all powerpoint but tests can be tricky. huge part of the test questions are "more than one answer can be correct". bummer. Has Podcast so you don't really need to go. 5 quizzes but easy! Memorize pp (about 200+ slides per test) overall fun/great teacher! but tricky at times. Gotta work for that A a bit
He's one of the best professor's I had yet. He makes it super fun and breaks down the detailed concepts in the book to much more simpler ones. His tests are from his powerpoints so just make sure to review them thoroughly before each exam and you should be fine. With that said, you don't really need to get the book just check it out if needed. ^^
Dr. LoDolce is a great professor! Very knowledgeable about the subjects, very helpful to students. Power points are very straight forward but make sure you understand the material completely to be fully prepared for exams!
I really enjoyed taking this class with Lodolce. He made the material easy to understand. He posts a podcast of all his lectures. Use the podcast and powerpoints to study off of. His exams are strictly based off of his powerpoints, and are not as in depth as the textbook.
3 tests (100 pts ea) with 5 quizzes (5 pts ea with lowest score dropped). There are few points so if you bomb one test, which many did (the 2nd is brutal) it's hard to get better than a B. Very clear and helpful guy who is extremely sweet and willing to give you any tools to understand the material, including podcasts. Tests are tricky/No curve
Nice guy but near impossible to get an A. Pros:podcasts and incredibly knowledgeable guy willing to help/doesn't waste time with attendance & hw. Cons:Way too much material crammed into 2nd exam, only 3 tests (unlike most loyola sci classes), too few points, no curve. If you can do great on 1st test & have no other classes, you might have a shot
overall a good teacher. only assignments are mastering genetics online. we barely used the book. must attend class in order to get iclicker points and you get points for any answer, even if it's wrong. tests are easy as long as you understand problems and concepts from powerpoints.
Best prof Ive ever had at Loyola. Does a great job explaining difficult concepts. Very approachable & always available for questions.
Dr. Lodolce is great! Lectures are crystal clear, exams are fairly difficult, but then again, it's a 382 class. Very approachable and always willing to chat (even about his fantasy football team). If you can, definitely take him! Simply one of Loyola's best
He was really quite great. He does a great job of explaining the concepts and records his lectures. Do take advantage of these resources and come in to see he him. He wants to help.
I loved Dr. Lodolce. He is very clear in lectures. Puts his lectures online to listen to. His exams are based off powerpoint slides, and the book is barely used. He uses videos and pictures to teach and it is very helpful. He is very approachable and very friendly. A must take!
First off, genetics was more difficult than I thought it would be. But Dr. Lodolce did a great job making his lectures clear and concise. He's great with technology so use the resources he provides. Very helpful in office hrs as well.
Dr. Lodolce is a great professor. He is so straightforward in what he wants from his students. His slides are concise and picture-filled, and the podcasts online are AWESOME. Yea the exams are difficult, but it's an upper level bio class....
This class was extremely demanding. The homework, exams, and the paper required lots of effort. Of course, it's a 300 level course so be prepared to put in a LOT of work. The exams are tricky, he tends to take off various points on the homework, and the final is HARD. It screwed my up my grade for the course. Beware. He's nice but the course isn't.
Posts his power points on blackboard, podcasts on itunes, and sends emails about all homework deadlines. He's very clear and organized and explains things well. Tough class because its upper level but can't really ask for more from a professor than what he provides. Great guy in general. Would definitely take a class with him again
This class is extremely demanding, but it's a 300 level so what do you expect. Dr. Lodolce is one of the greatest professors I have ever had at Loyola. He is always available or willing to make himself available to students! 3 tests, 5 homework assignments, and a paper that he will read rough drafts of. definitely trying to take again!
Dr. Lodolce is a knowledgeable and dedicated professor. He's definitely the best biology professor I've had at Loyola so far. Extremely helpful and always willing to put in some extra effort for his students. He's very adept at explaining complex interactions and systems in a simple and easily understandable way. 10/10 will take him again
5 Hmwks, 3 exams (including the final, and 1 paper. He was very clear in the material through his ppts, which were available online, and he did podcasts. Exams were really fair if you studied the ppts and concepts well. Final and paper were a little hard, but he always is willing to help and look at drafts. I would take him again! Great professor!
5 homework assignments (a 6th for E.C.) and difficult exams. They are fair considering all the info is covered in his pp. Does podcasts too. ALWAYS willing to help. Project was difficult, but extremely interesting. Go to his office hours! He is super organized.
Undoubtedly one of the most devoted and sincere educators at LU. Does e/thing w/in reason and then some to be available. Ppl go to office hours b/c the material is detailed, not for want of thoroughness in lecture, far from it. Exams demand intimate knowledge of the material but no more than what Dr.L covers in lecture. Work for the A, feels great
Lodolce is the best teacher! He genuinely wants to help you understand the material and makes himself readily available outside of class. His lectures are clear and the material is pretty straight forward. Know the powerpoints and review the discussion questions. Going over the mastering assignments can help too. I highly recommend him!
OMG talk about boring and monotone. he expects you to know EVERYTHING. only gave us one 5 point curve on the first exam, no other curve. WAY too difficult and long exams. avoid unless you want to teach yourself everything and never get anything out of lecture
I went to this class with distaste. He rarely curves an exam that has a low average, he is monotone throughout his lectures. His exams require a recall of minuscule details, so memorize the power points. Once you fail one exam, you are basically done, so withdraw before it is too late. Overall, not recommended. weed out class for sure.
Monotone voice. Boring. Hard, tricky exams. Clarifies questions after the exam...it sure would have helped before we took the test!
Dr Lodolce genuinely cares about his students. Not that hard if you can stay awake through his monotone but even if you can't, he posts all powerpoints and even his recorded lectures on sakai. Responds to emails quickly and helpfully. 2 midterms, 1 non-cumulative final, a research paper (that's kind of tough), and mastering points. Definitely take.
This is a 300 level science class that does NOT CURVE. He has a high grade scale which makes it very hard to get an A, our class got a C average on a test and he said that was high and did not need to apply a curve. His lectures are dry, nobody talks and you have to just memorize everything
If you have ANY respect for your GPA, STAY AWAY TURN AROUND NOW. He is monotone, his lectures are long and unclear, everything blurs together and on top of it all, his tests are basically impossible. He purposely makes them too long to finish and covers the most obscure material. YOU'll NEVER MAKE IT I've never worked so hard in my life for a C-
I agree that genetics is a very difficult course but Professor Lodolce is not trying to make it difficult on purpose! His lectures are very clear! And if you don't follow the powerpoints you can always read the book. Very organized, clear on his expectations, and helpful. Three exams (last one is not cumulative final), mastering and clicker Qs.
He is one of the best professors at loyola. He takes the most difficult concepts and clarifies them step by step. However, his exams are the extremely difficult. His curves are not much of help and you really need to understand the material. His hw is not helpful at all. It just goes completly of topic for what is on the exams
Professor Lodolce is a nice guy, but my major complaints are with the exams. Few people would consider the first exam fair. If anything, i would hope for more tests to spread the material out. 2 exams not including the final gives each one WAY too much weight. He does go out of his way to record lectures though, which helps a lot when studying.
Hard but fair prof. 2 exams, clicker points, mastering genetics points, and a final. His tests are basically everything he says in class. Book is a good resource but is rarely used. Clicker and mastering pts are basically 1 test grade. Records lectures but also gives in lecture demonstrations.
I was pretty disappointed in this class after seeing these good reviews .Lodolce is a very nice guy, but makes his class way harder than it needs to be. He overcomplicates concepts and the tests just try to trick you. He is helpful outside of class. The first test will bring you down big if you dont study like crazy. It's way more than you expect.
Boring but FAIR. From the very beginning he will explain what he expects from you and even provides some tips on how to study for his class or prepare for exams. Mastering problems were not helpful but his discussion problems were on exams so study those! Book was helpful as well. Curves at the end!
His interest and knowledge of the topic makes students motivated to learn. He gives all of the materials to help you succeed as well as provides clear expectations for all assignmentstests. He always offers to help with questions and he posts his lecture recordings which are great to review. He puts in a lot of effort to help you succeed!
Dr. Lodolce does want you to succeed in his class. He gives you sufficient guidelines on what he looks for along with plenty of help if you go to him. Gives podcasts which are helpful for review. Exams are tough. Definitely Tough. TOUGH. STUDY FOR THEM A DEAL. Would have changed my study habits a bit, but would retake the class.
Dr. Lodolce is a great professor! He is always willing to clarify his points and his lectures are mostly clear and straightforward. Make sure to take notes as he is speaking even though ppts. and lectures are recorded. It really helps! Tests are incredibly difficult though, but if you prepare a little after every lecture, it really helps!
Dr. Lodolce is one of my favorite professors. His class is extremely organized and he makes an extensive effort to clarify his points. He cares a lot of about students' questions and research answers outside of class. His exams are very difficult but i studied for a week and got a 98 so with a good amount of effort A's are definitely feasible.
3 exams, best 5 of 6 homework assignments, mastering biology, and 1 paper. He records himself during his lecture and posts the audio file on Sakai. This is the best thing a professor has ever done for his students, but DON'T take advantage of the fact that this allows you to skip class. His exams are moderately tough, but doable with adequate prep.
Very excellent teacher and mentor. Grading can be harsh and somewhat unreasonable at times. However, you will grow in the process. Seemed relatively jaded, nonetheless, kindhearted and sage at a personal level. With long hours and high risk:reward ratio, 390 is a class not for the faint of heart (or GPA). Overall, best option for molecular bio lab.
The course's purposefully designed to be difficult. He himself's a REALLY picky grader. Expects a lot of details both in exams& papers. He tricks u in the exams. Amazing lecturer tho, and very helpful in/outside of the class. Learned a lot about scientific writing. Not recommended if u're taking any other course to commit for your majors/minors.
An A is possible with work. For quests and the midterm I suggest recording lectures. For papers, I recommend starting research early and applying your edits very thoroughly for any rewrite assignments. He expects things that seem particular, but that are actually expected at the institutional level. One of LUC's best! I learned an invaluable amount
Professor Lodolce is an amazing professor, and probably one of the clearest lecturers at Loyola. I took him for Molecular Genetics and Virology and loved both of those classes. He explains things well and provides podcasts of his lectures which are great for studying. His papers are a bit challenging, but if you start early you should be good.
Professor Lodolce is a great professor who knows his stuff when it comes to genetics. His lectures are clear, and if you dont understand them the first time around he provides podcasts for you to go back and listen to which were very helpful. He is somewhat of a hard grader, and his tests are difficult so study for them.
Would advise against taking Molecular Genetics with Lodolce for Biology elective credit unless absolutely necessary. You will spend hours relistening to his lectures and transcribing notes. Very overwhelming and difficult course.
This guy drones out in his lectures. The overall tone is that you need to know everything and every second in lecture is allocated to powerpoint presentations. He literally makes you learn the entire book and then when it comes to the exam he throws incredibly complex questions at you which the powerpoints don't prep you for. He's a good person tho
He is a very clear and concise lecturer. Lodolce grades the HW sheets really hard. Tophat and mastering boosts your grade at the end of the year. The first exam is easy and the rest are really difficult
Clearest Lecturer I've had. Explains concepts nicely and records lectures. Exams are hard and require a good amount of studying.
Dr. Lodolce is the best! He records all his lectures and posts them on Sakai. Mastering and TopHat points help boost your grade. Exams are very straightforward, just study the powerpoints. His worksheets were a little tough and he is kind of picky with them. He does make you work for your grade but probably one of the best cell bio professors.
Lodolces tests have progressively gotten more difficult and wrecked me. Literally relisten to everything and you can still fail. Very nice man but difficult exams.
I do not recommend the genetics course with this professor. The exams were insane despite having studied for a great amount of time. The first two exams are really rough, the third exam was a little better. My biggest problem with the exams is they are too long to finish in 75 minutes. Good guy but not the best professor....
2, 100pt exams. 6, 5pt simple worksheets (drop 1). 50pt easy mastering homework. 75pt time consuming paper. 100pt final. Super organized, he records his lectures, fantastic teaching skills. Take notes from the recordings. Material is easy to memorize and the exams are straight forward, although some application is obviously needed.
Dr. Lodolce is great. Lectures are crystal clear. The paper is difficult but starting early helps. He's very willing to help in office hours or via email. Rewrite your notes, redo hmwk, read book, and ask questions to do well on exams.
Difficult class but professor Lodolce is a great professor. The exams are difficult but if you study a little at a time then you should be ready for the exams. Do NOT buy the book. Only study from the lecture slides and relisten to the podcast. Great guy and he does recognize when students work hard for their grade.
theres only 2 exams and a final, drops only the lowest worksheet. the worksheet are never before to be talked about in class and very hard and he also grades very harsh. no extra credit. I would not recommend, all my other friends had note cards and he did not.
Hardest part is the 2 papers. One practice paper is worth 100pts and then one paper at the end of the semester is based on your wet lab research and is worth 100pts. Never studied for the quizzes but they were not hard. Homework is easy. Midterm was hard bc questions were poorly written. Presentation with your lab partner. No final exam.
The exams are difficult but if you study a little at a time then you should be ready for the exams. Only study from the slides and relisten to podcasts. Scored highest on my final after studying for weeks! exams are SUPER FAIR and he is accessible and kind as well I went to him for every worksheet and he was always open to meeting up within 24 hrs
While, yes, the class was a little tough, what else do you really expect from a Genetics class? My primary strategy was taking really good notes and listening to the podcasts over and over again to make sure I knew everything. Also, the practice problems he gives are really helpful and clue you in to what's on the exams.
This is the 3 class I've taken with him! His lectures are super thorough and his exams are difficult but fair. He never tests on things he doesn't talk about. The paper was challenging and a lot of work. He gives you an option to submit a draft early and gives feedback which was so helpful. Start early and submit the draft! He wants you to do well!
I don't understand how any of the previous reviews can possibly recommend this professor. He claims that everything is application base, but it is not. He makes questions not correlated to any of the homework, thus leaving you with no practice. Even memorization of the content will not help you. He lectures for 1hr25min at most for no reason needed
he made my life miserable. forced to take him for major class requirements. online/pandemic version was brutal and too demanding for the situation in which we are in.
Lodolce is tough and lectures can be dry but I appreciated his organization in the move online. All asynchronous lectures and mastering bio homework. I definitely put in a lot of time watching and absorbing the lectures but I think the class is very doable and go to office hours if you're ever unsure about anything.
Dr. Lodolce is the best! He is very organized, clear in his lectures, and fair on his exams. His exams are based almost entirely on his lectures, so if you study notes from class and review the book you'll do great. It is a lot, but that's the class. All lectures were asynchronous with review sessions before exams, I personally liked the format.
If you want an easy class with little homework, this isn't the class for you. He is completely asynchronous, and uploaded 2 lectures a week, as well as 1 to 2 Mastering. The lectures were kind of monotone and it got easy to lose focus, but totally doable. SUPER helpful if you reach out and ask for help though. He does want you to succeed.
im never taking this man again.
Sucks that I had to take him for my major. Hated the class set up (COVID). Exams were very specific. The paper was BRUTAL. I wrote 15+ single spaced pages and it still wasn't detailed enough. Definitely start early and send in your rough draft. Super picky grader. He does curve slightly at the end (if you're borderline).
Cell Bio may have been a pretty tough class, but Dr. Lodolce made it fascinating for me. His asynchronous lectures were clear, and his exams were very fair -- they're based heavily on the lectures + PowerPoint slides. There was 1 MasteringBio assignment every week. In general, I liked the online format of the course.
This class was SO MUCH WORK but to be fair it is writing intensive and engaged learning. Class is super organized and he gave a lot of guidance esp for the independent project. Follow the rubrics closely and apply his feedback. Ask questions, he wants you to do well. I learned the most from this class out of all my classes at LUC but its hard work!
Dr. Lodolce is the sweetest professor I've ever had. He really cares about his students, the course is well-organized and he's always willing to sit down and explain things to you. Weekly mastering assignments, forum, and 4 exams total. Take detailed notes on lectures, drill down the info, practice his problems and you should be fine
Dr. Lodolce is a fair professor, though make sure you are timely in spreading your reading and viewing of his lectures otherwise it can be easy to fall behind. Be wary of the course textbook as it tends to meander a lot, so highlight and memorize only whats important relative to the material of the lecture.
I had Dr. Lodolce for two classes and he is just an amazing professor. He is so organized, helpful, clear in his lectures, and fair on his exams. Although the class requires a LOT of studying and work on your own part, Dr. Lodolce always makes it reasonable and is understanding. Weekly Mastering homeworks and forum posts. Take him, hes the best!!
I never thought Cell Bio could be fun but Dr. Lodolce makes the lecture enjoyable. He treats his students with respect and answers emails very fast. The content is difficult at times, you need to study outside of class as well. He records his lectures everyday for us to look back on.
responds fast, no quizzes, one hw a week. 3 exams (including final that's on only the last unit) are worth 100 each, homework 125, and tophat for participation 25. so hw and tophat really bring up your tests if you mess up, a lot of people failed exams since there is so much application but he drops one homework and added a curve this time.
Dr. Lodolce is a great professor. He will make you work for your grade, but hes always willing to meet outside of class if youre struggling. We only had three exams including the final while other professors had four exams and let students drop one, so that is a favor to consider. Overall, I would take him again.
I thought Dr Lodolce was a very kind professor. His lectures are a bit dry, but he includes lots of visuals and encourages participation. His tests are huge but fair. He was very friendly and always curved exams so the average was a C. Mastering homework is annoying, but oh well. Wish he was teaching Genetics.
Dr. Lodolce is a good professor but his class is tough. Exams are extremely detailed so you have to study a lot to do well on them. The paper is long and extremely detailed so start early and ask him for feedback to do well on it! His lectures are crystal clear and he makes the material understandable. He curved our grades heavily at the end.
This class was really interesting and Dr. Lodolce does a good job of explaining things. The homework was easy but the exams were tough, so make sure to study a lot for them. The paper at the end of the class is really long so make sure you write a lot and be really detailed. The class was overall enjoyable and I learned a lot from it.
Run for your life. Seriously I lost hair after taking this course.
I took him for virology- you learn about origins of pandemics, read two books that discussion classes are based on, have a weekly homework assignment and 3 exams (non cumulative final!!!) and a paper comparing a pop culture virus with a real virus! Super fun assignment honestly!! Take this class for your 300 level bio!!!
Clear in grading expectations and a great lecturer. But did not care for his students whatsoever. Everyone was scared to ask questions thinking they would come off stupid thanks to his demeanor. I have never worked so hard in a class for academic validation and feel as though I was disregarded.
Nice person but class is ruthless. Many detailed lectures & must know specific information on the slides to even do meh on his exams. Exams are what your grade is based off and exams are incredibly difficult. Stressful class! Other 300 level chem classes are more doable. Recommend taking a different class/ different professor, not worth your gpa.
The lectures are recorded which is very helpful. The only grades are homework, 3 exams (including final), and a research paper. After attending lecture, I had the PowerPoint up as well as his audio recorded lecture and took extensive notes. Start early on the paper, score as high as possible on homework, and study well for exams. I learned a ton!
The lectures are recorded which is very helpful. The only grades are homework, 3 exams (including final), and a research paper. After attending lecture, I had the PowerPoint up as well as his audio recorded lecture and took extensive notes. The paper was really fun! Study the fine details for his exams. Overall, the class was really interesting!
I have a feeling he is writing these reviews. Some of them are eerily similar and or copy paste of other review. Beware and reconsider any other options before taking lodolce.
No way these reviews are real, this class was ridiculously hard. Exams were online but it doesn't matter how detailed your notes are, you're going to struggle on them. Mastering was also a joke, he wrote the textbook the class is based upon so he asks the most obscure questions possible. There are way better options for an elective, AVOID!
The person below isn't wrong but is a tad bit overexaggerating. His exams and homework are pretty challenging, but they aren't crazy hard. If you have the opportunity and ain't deeply interested in virology, then another elective might be better, but if you're interested in virology and could put some work in his class, you'll be fine.
5 quizzes, 1 exam, 5 notecards, 3 papers, and a research presentation. The first half is a classwide project, and the second half is a partner project. For the partner project, you have to spend time outside of class to do work, but Dr. Lodolce is there to guide you. A bit of a monotone person, but cares a lot for his students. Go to office hours!
