What a jerk. Inflated ego, pompous. Lectures are very interesting, but didn't really matter for the course; based his entire course around five monographs... should have titled the course "Why I Think These Selected Titles Are Great" instead. Has good insight but I was so turned off to his personality that it just wasn't worth it.
overall he is a good teacher. i would recamend going to class though but a missing a class or two wouldnt hurt. the weekly quizes are hard but there is extra credit worked in. he is a funny and interesting teacher that keeps lectures interesting. i love history and know a lot more know.
Awesome teacher, but course is kinda tough if you're not paying attention, or if you want to skip. The extra credit on weekly quizzes are nice, but tough to get.
He's very nice but a difficult class. His powerpoints are almost useless and his lectures are quite boring. Showing up to class is manditory: daily sign-in sheet. His weekly online quizzes are picky and the textbook is boring. Map quizzes are fun. His exams points are mostly essay questions where he wants examples from the text to get a good grade.
easy class. didnt read the text after the first week, and i still got extra credit on about every quiz. great sense of humor. tests aren't too bad, but you can't really b.s. the essays, he will know. overall, a pretty easy A if you are concious in class
Weekly quizzes on insane amounts of reading from the text. The good thing is you can get extra credit. Pretty egotistical professor. Lectures are really boring and have nothing to do with the exams.
Nice guy, interesting to listen to, but HARD to get an A.
Longhurst is a very charismatic and animated lecturer. Unfortunately, his lectures have almost nothing to do with the quizzes and exams you will take. Longhurst cannot physically go one class period without swearing. His lectures are interesting but essentially useless. Quizzes are multiple choice and you pretty much have to read the book. Exams ar
he's really funny, swears and talks about drinking. stopped reading the book after the first week. lots of extra credit. lectures don't have a lot to do with exams but he gives you a study guide that if you know it, you'll be absolutely fine.
It's not too hard to get a B in, and if you like to read boring textbooks you can get an A. Lectures have nothing to do with the quizzes you take weekly, along with 2 map quizzes and 3 exams, 3rd exam is the "final". I read&studied for the 1st exam, and he told me to read the text. Skipped reading on the 2nd exam and did significantly better
honestly, if this is not a 600 level course, then why is it harder than one. it is completely rediculous. i mean, hes a nice guy but i just wanted to take a history course to get it over with and this was so hard.sooo many hours put into reading reading and reading and reading. and then for 1 test you have to memorize over 150 terms ? no, stupid
Great guy, seems fun. Not the best professor though. The lectures are useless, the map quizzes are tricky. He'll say one thing and do another. Charismatic, but he's too opinionated. The weekly quizzes have are DETAILED-he doesn't write them. Overall, he's just okay. Better than some, but not most.
AMAZING PROFESSOR!(US History). I learned so much in this course and his approach to US History is very unlike that of a high school history course. You will work hard with keeping up with readings, but his lectures are SO interesting...great sense of humor! He is a very reasonable grader, and lets you know exactly what he expects of you. AWESOME!
If you are not interested in his, do not take his class!!!!NEVER NEVER AND NEVER
DON'T TAKE HIM. class is very hard and his lectures are completely irrelevant to the exams. writes mean/rude comments on your exam. exams are over at least 8 chapters of information. i would definitely suggest a different teacher...
Why is he teaching? His lectures are mainly based on opinions. The quizzes are too specific, the map quizzes (2) are too detailed and too much book reading. He writes RUDE comments if you don't get an A on assignments and is overall very pompous! Not a good teacher, horrible individual, menace to History lovers. DO NOT TAKE
Weekly detailed quizzes, but extra credit offered on everyone...Lectures not super helpful for quizzes or exams, but know the study guide. Tried to make class somewhat interesting
This professor is a very hard grader and his tests are really hard. He thinks that by giving extra credit on quizzes he's helping you out, but the tests are very hard and act as more % for the class. He also writes some what rude comments on your tests if you get one wrong. I would never take him again
If you like history, take this class. If you dont, Stay away. It makes it interesting to listen to, but lectures only related to part of the test. Lots of reading, a lot of work. Quizzes are online and open note/book. Map quizzes are fine if you study a little bit. Cool guy, decent class. But dont be shocked when its hard, because it will be
Horrible prof. He's so egotistical and writes rude comments on your exams. There's so much reading to do and the tests are ridiculous. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
HARD!!! Too much reading for the time given. Online quizes very detailed about the reading. 3 exams that cover way too much, know the studyguides. Writes rude comments on exams. Would not take again!!
I did well in this class, but I really didn't like this prof. Even on A papers, he wrote unnecessary sarcastic comments. In class he sometimes talked to students as if we were stupid. He showed some good films, but a lot were pretty boring. He also took forever to return grades to us. Liked the material, but his personality got on my nerves.
Terrible teacher, you dont need to go to class but its mandatory. You basically end up teaching yourself w/ all the reading required....bad class
A LOT of work. The lectures are just about the readings which are required. The lectures do not go very in depth at all. The reading quizzes are very difficult and timed. The tests are very difficult. Excpect to start studying for them at least a week in advance. He writes very sarcastic comments on your exams that make you feel stupid.
Great Professor! Truly, there is a LOT of reading for weekly quizzes however you can get extra credit on each one very easily, and the map quizzes are a breeze if you study for an hour lol. Lectures are VERY interesting and he is a really personable and cool prof, loved going to class. I would recomend him and a pretty good class.
Seriously this guy has some bad ratings for nothing. There is a lot of reading but the quizes are easy, you ALWAYS can get extra credit in them as well as map quizes, and lectures are REALLY interesting! He's a really cool guy and if you pay attention and ask questions and study you should do decent on tests, and good overall cause of the extra c
For a general education and history teacher, Longhurst wasn't awful. He may initially seem rude, but he often grows on you. He always offers extra credit on reading and map quizzes. You have to read every week. But, if you consistently do the work, you can ace it! Interesting lectures, too!
This guy is pretty rude. He asks vague questions yet wants specific answers. I love history, but not from this guy.
I am a science major and wasn't really looking forward to history. But it wasn't bad with Longhurst at all! You don't have to write any papers. And people who complain about his exams need to relax. He tells you ahead of time what possible short answer questions will be. Plus extra credit helps a lot. Take the quizzes with someone else if you can
lots of book work. you have to read to do well.
Great Professor, challenging material. Makes you grasp some pretty dificult concepts. Learned a lot about the world. Very benefical
Way too much reading. You have two textbooks. Read a chapter after/before every class. Chapters are at least 40 pages long! Online quiz every friday, vey hard quizzes.
This professor knows his stuff and attempts to cover it all in class, but in a global history course it is rarely possible for him to do so. Therefore, it is necessary to complete some lengthy textbook readings before each class period to be successful. Plenty of opportunity for extra credit. Overall good instructor.
MUST read in order to do well. The weekly reading quizzes are pretty difficult but he offers so much extra credit throughout the course that a couple bad quizzes won't matter. He really enjoys teaching and is fun to listen to! I recommend him!
I am a history major and I found his class to be boring and hard to stay on track with. But it was also a intro to history class which could mean a lot. Make sure you read the required readings in the book, or else you will get far behind.
HORRIBLE! I actually enjoyed history classes prior to this one. Expect to be assigned 200 pages of the most boring readings every week and then take irrelevant, IMPOSSIBLE weekly quizzes on the tiniest details from them. Oh, and he's the most arrogant, rude professor I've ever had and talks to the class like they're 12 years old.
Wonderful professor. If you can read, you'll do fine. The readings can be tedious, but if you do them, you'll have no trouble whatsoever in the class. Extremely clear on expectations, and explains exactly what exams are like. Overall, enjoys teaching a lot, and can be pretty funny to listen to.
I was supposed to get a B in the class and he accidentally gave me a WAY BETTER grade on an exam and I ended up with an A/B. Needless to say I was excited! His tests are harder than what any history test should be and he is somewhat mean. Take Grider!!!!
Be prepared to have to read all of the assigned chapters. If you don't there is no way that you'll do well on the exams or the weekly quizzes. The class isn't super hard, just way harder than any introductory level history class should have to be. I recommend taking someone else if you are just taking this class to fulfill a gen ed requirement.
What a hottie!
Read the book and you'll be fine.
No papers, 3 exams including the final (non-cumulative), 2 easy in-class quizzes. Online quizzes each week on the reading-take with groups! You get extra credit with them and lowest two dropped. Yes, you have to read but a lot of history classes require that. Easy to get an A if you put in effort. He really isn't that bad, I recommend him!
I HATE history, but this class wasn't so bad. The readings can be a long and tedious, but its doable. He takes attendance and you will get a reduction in grade if you miss a certain amount of classes. Go to class, read, and you will get a decent grade.
Really likes to talk..a lot. I really liked this professor because he makes the lecture relatable and his sarcasm is hilarious. Tests are fair, but TONS of writing. If you pay attention to the main points covered in lecture, you'll be fine on exams.
For being a 101 class, this feels like a 400 level course. Anytime that I need clarification or help, he was very sarcastic and rude. I don't recommend taking this class with him as a professor.
Enjoyed Longhurst. The man loves to talk. A lot. Anyway, this course requires a lot of work. Reading the text is HIGHLY recommended if you want to succeed in the course. 10 reading quizzes, can be a little challenging, but if you read, you're fine. Exams are fair, but a lot of writing. Verdict, read the text & pay attention, and you'll be A-Okay.
Longhurst is a nice guy and one of my favorite History professors at UWL. He is a great lecturer and you truly learn a lot in his class. We had 5 journals based on the reading, 2 essays based from novels we read, and greenbook midterm and final exams. He cares about students and wants them to succeed, but you have to work for it!
Excellent class but he makes you work for it! DO NOT skip class or get behind in your reading! Pay attention to study guides. Keep notes when he drops hints about future test/quiz questions. If you were prepared and asked halfway informed questions, he was very helpful. Heaven help you if you are whiny or lazy. Lectures are hilarious!
He's one of, if not the best, lecturer I have ever had. Nothing that comes out of his mouth is boring and he really knows his stuff. However, he's a tough grader and a bit cocky and sometimes leaves sarcastic remarks on papers. I've taken him twice and hope to take him again. His classes aren't easy, but I learned a lot.
Professor Longhurst is a sarcastic man and sometimes his comments are offensive. He is really passionate about history. His class is REALLY easy; that is, if you keep up with the reading and attend class. You really can skip class. If you read, you can basically pass his class. When he asks questions, ANSWER. He will wait for participation.
Weekly reading quizzes from the chapter with extra credit. Two map quizzes also with extra credit. Three tests, which were easy if you figure out how to study for them. Do not fall behind on the readings and go to class everyday because there is a sign-in attendance sheet.
Not clear on what he expects for exams. Weekly reading quizzes that force you to actually read. Horrible lecturer- powerpoints consist of all pictures and no information. Rude to students who ask for help.
Course consists of an online quiz for every chapter and you are allowed to use the internet to complete each quiz. Every quiz offers extra credit for the course. 3 exams in which you write significance of 8 out of 10 terms he gives you. (he gives you a list of about 50 terms for each exam) and 2 map quizzes (also can get extra credit. hard grader.
Very hard grader. Can receive extra credit on the online quizzes and the 2 map quizzes. Attendance is not mandatory but he has everyone put their name on the sign in sheet every day. Horrible lecture with a powerpoint that consists of mainly just pictures. Must read the book to even pass the class. Do not take him!
Longhurst is an awful teacher and his lectures are terrible. Shows you a lot of pictures on powerpoint slides with no writing. Very unclear about what he expects on tests making them very difficult. Do not take him if you don't have to.
I loved having class with him. He is a funny and knowledgeable guy, who is always willing to do whatever he can to help you. Lectures can feel a little long at times but overall he makes it interesting. Has extreme enthusiasm for teaching, if you listen well and make sure to study for in-class essays and map quizzes, then you'll be fine.
I loved having class with him. He is very upbeat and fun to listen to and he really knows what he is talking about. He doesn't lecture a lot,but when he does pay attention. In class essays rather than exams. We also did really cool role playing games, it gets very intense. Prepare for essays and map quizzes and you will be fine!
He was okay, at times his class was confusing and very unclear
If you take his History 102 Reacting to the Past class you will be able to get an A just participate. The class is set up to be 2 role playing games. Our class was Athens and China. Only 2 in class essays and 2 map quizzes. He's a great prof because when he does lecture he makes it interesting. Wish I could take another class with him!
The class is not your typical style of class, If you want a fun social class take it. It is made up of role playing games that let you make your own history and then is compared to actual history. Dont expect to learn everything from his lectures because he is not lecture heavy. Participate in this class and you will pass.
Two role-playing games, two map quizzes, and two final exams are basically your entire grade. The role-playing games are very fun, but if you want to do well in the class you need to read the book in preparation for the two exams, which collectively make up over half your grade. That being said, if you read and study, the exams are doable.
Very disorganized lectures, with no actual words for presentations. Jumps around so much its tough to keep everything organized. Can seem disrespectful sometimes, but not on purpose. Feedback from tests is nonexistent unless you can read Charlie Brown scribbles.
Not a boring History class! Interesting lectures that are easy to sit through. Attendance is important in this class but there isn't much work to be done outside class. Readings are easy to skim and he goes over most important information in lecture. He gives review sheets so students know exactly what to expect on the 2 tests and 2 quizzes.
Lectures make no sense, extremely unclear about what he's looking for on exams, asking for help is pointless because he makes you feel like the dumbest person. Overall the most egotistical, arrogant professor I've had. I wouldn't recommend him or any of his classes if my life depended on it.
Kind of a jerk but I guess class is different and fun.
Dr. Longhurst is one of the most condescending and rude professors. Little to no feedback is given and grades are extremely vague. The class structure and games themselves are fun, however, this professor manages to kill any sense of joy or excitement involving this course.
Environ. Hist. is Longhurst's main field of expertise. He is passionate in his attempt to give students just a piece of the US environ. hist. that he knows. Papers written per each book in class, allows to skip one paper. Expectations and requirements are clearly specified. Gives many prompts to chose from. Demonstrate you've read and you're good.
I hate public speaking so much, so I hated this class so much! I do not recommend this class if you do not like public speaking. Longhurst is an okay prof, but a very tough grader and little to no feedback.
Great professor and great class! It is a role-playing class so definitely show up. Tests are easy just get an understanding of all the terms.
Please be aware: This class was perhaps to most fun history class I've taken. You play a game and then are tested on the material that you learn through it. However, unless you read (which you should) you will not pass the tests. The class is basically made up of a few misc. grades and two big tests (the midterm and the final). It's a toss up.
Professor Longhurst's Reacting to the Past class is definitely an unorthodox way to teach a history class, but I enjoyed it so much more than just sitting through boring lectures! He lectures for the first 3-4 classes, and then students act out history. For visual learners, it helped a lot. You need to study a lot for the midterm and final.
He's rude, condescending, and the feedback he offers on essays isn't helpful.
He was very nice and made it clear what was on exam. You do have to do mini speeches but he doesnt grade how well you present it just the material you wrote down to say. His class was very fun and hands on. I would take his class again.
The whole class is out of around 105 points, including two 30 point exams and five 5 point credit essays that HE GRADES EXTREMELY HARD! You play a game the entire class that does really nothing to prepare you for the exams!
If you hate history, TAKE HIS110 with James. It's so different than any other class. You play games recreating historical events and it's way better than sitting in a lecture and writing long papers. You right about 5 half a page speeches for the game and have a midterm and final, but you know exactly what you'll be tested on. Grades weird though.
Mr. Longhurst teaches an interactive history class that requires attendance and participation, but it's the most fun history class I've ever taken so it flies by! Highly recommend going to his office hours to ask questions and put your name out there, it'll help in the long run. Highly recommend his class: Reacting to the Past!
I hated history courses so I decided to take Reacting To The Past and it is easily the best history class I have ever taken. There are few lectures which he makes very interesting but most of it is student-ran. I am not the person to talk much in classes but I participated way more than I thought and learned a lot. He does grade tough, though.
Dr. Longhurst is one of the best professors I have had at UWL. I had him for Survey of the United States. The class was a lot of discussion based on the readings. I recommend at least skimming over the readings before class so you can understand what's going on during the discussions better. The readings aren't too bad either. I HIGHLY recommend
Dr. Longhurst, is an awesome professor and has a very interesting class. Reacting to the past is such a fun class, and really allows you to t learn the material in a fun and interactive way. Although, the papers are difficult, they help you appreciate the hard work it takes to analyze primary documents.
Professor Longhurst is AWESOME, he is incredibly knowledgeable and makes history really fun. It's a roleplaying, highly interactive class but you don't need to be a history buff to have fun. He is a really tough grader however and the class isn't based out of very many points so make sure to really pay attention to lecture and readings.
Highly recommend Reacting to the Past. Definitely the most fun class I've taken. Professor Longhurst is a super nice guy and I always enjoyed being in his class. The papers could be somewhat challenging, but there weren't that many of them so it never felt overwhelming.
As someone who deeply loves history, this just wasn't the class for me. Don't get me wrong the roleplaying aspect was fun and it was cool to pretend to be people in Ancient Athens. But it got old after a while and just kinda lost its touch. Not to mention that he grades pretty hard on the papers. Despite that, I did enjoy the class.
As a person, he has a little bit of an ego that's hard to describe but you'll recognize it when you meet him. The structure of the class is really fun and very untraditional. I learned a lot and had fun playing the games in class. He is pretty accommodating and a decent grader. He's easy to approach and overall a nice guy.
Easily the nicest and most fun professor I have had. You put yourself in the shoes of people from societies from many centuries ago and talk in front of the whole class. There's only 5 worksheets and 2 papers the whole semester and are graded quite picky. Class is super boring and all over the place by the nature of the class.
Dr. Longhurt's class was fun and interesting, you do not need to love history to get involved. His grading is tough however, be aware.
Aside from being a tough grader, Longhurst is a pretty cool dude, and he's really committed to his style of learning, which I find refreshing. He provides good, but sometimes unclear feedback. Only 100 total points in the entire class, so make sure you're submitting your best work.
I had A's in every class., besides this one. One of the toughest graders ever. Cool dude, just extremely strict when it comes to assignments. Honestly wouldn't recommend it unless you are willing to put in extreme work to get a good grade.
Fun class to take if you wanna spend 40 hours a week on a general education class. The professor is very rude when it comes to feedback, he makes fun of you if you do poorly. Will point out mistakes after you give your speeches, not in a good way. Overall do not recommend taking this class if you have a heavy class schedule.
Longhurst is not only a terrible teacher, but a mean person. He told me "the skills of your writing is not helping yourself". He makes fun of you if you ask questions. If you don't already feel bad about your knowledge for history, he will make sure you feel dumb by the end of his class. His comments on my test consist of "yea no" and "ummm". AVOID
Very tough grader. Even if you ask for help he always finds something wrong with your papers. Lots of writing speeches and the midterm and finals are stressful. Have to write a 4 page paper and take an exam defining history events given a list of 50. Do not take reacting to the past unless you want to do this.
DO NOT TAKE. The finals are based on things you don't focus on in class. He is a horrible professor, with totally bogus grading. he refuses to give anyone a good grade no matter how hard you work on something. Acts like he is hot stuff. He says all the time to ask for help, yet when you do, he doesn't even help and makes you feel bad for asking.
As long as you participate and try, you should end up with a decent grade in this class. He is a tough grader, but as long as you ask questions and do the reading you'll be fine. You definitely have to work for your grade, but I enjoyed the class
Professor Longhurst presents the class as an easy, "Gen ed accessible" course, then proceeds to grade and take off random points without any reason as to why. When I asked him how to achieve the perfect score, he straight up told me there was nothing more I could do. Presents himself like he is better than his students and makes you feel dumb.
Gives poor grades with little explanation. Fun class but annoyingly hard for a gen
He is an extremely hard grader. For a gen Ed he expects you to know how to interpret historical documents at a history major level. He expects you to write 4 page papers on a couple paragraphs of quotes for the midterm and final. I studied for days, felt I knew the content, and received a D on the final. He gave little to no reasoning as to why.
Dr. Longhurts prides himself on how much he cares about students, but his actions in class speak differently. In small and large group discussions, he will make sure you know that he holds himself much higher than his students. He will belittle your answers to his questions and sometimes disregard you altogether. Do not recommend.
The actual "gameplay" part of class is fun, but Prof Longhurst is a really tough grader in terms of the "worksheets" aka short papers you have to write for the game. The class is really lecture and reading heavy at first. The midterm and final are very difficult because you're quizzed on terms you learned in the beginning of the semester.
For my mid-term and final, he assigned a 4-page paper analyzing about a paragraph of a document he chooses along with a written test. The material on the test was discussed very briefly and we spent most of our time learning about things that weren't on the test. He assigns many papers and essays.
His class was really hard to sit through because it was 4 hours long, but he was a great professor and I liked his class. I messed up during skipped a few classes and he reached out to me and made sure I was still on the right track. His sarcastic humor made the class interesting and he was extremely knowledgeable about the topics covered in class.
This class was excellent. It was very long (4 hour classes), but we only met once a week. There are not many points in the gradebook, so if you do not do well on his papers or his quizzes, then you do not have many chances to make up those points. That being said, if you have the time to take this class and are interested in film, it's worth it.
Teacher is kind of a narcissist, likes to diminish the knowledge of students. Grading lies on the harder side despite wack-ass assignments like annotating documents for 1000+ years ago. Gives you very little lecturing at the beginning of the semester and then expects you to know more than what he gave you when it is time for the final exam.
Even though I ended with a good grade I would never take his class again. Very little lectures but then expects you to know it all on the exams. Make sure you actually read your text books or you will probably fail. A little harsh on feedback
He kinda grade worksheets hard, but if you participate in class you will do fine. Makes class days super fun and enjoyable. I will say that the midterm and final is a little difficult, but it's super easy to get a B or higher in the class. Overall I would take this class again purely because the class days are so fun with "reacting to the past".
Longhurst is a VERY hard grader and expects you to have knowledge on topics that were spoken about for 2 minutes-months ago. He is quite full of himself as he would regularly say, "Let's get a round of applause for me!" and make comments like "I had to put up with you guys all semester." Unrealistic expectations and a narcissistic professor.
There is a better chance of you graduating in 2 years then there is of you doing well in James's class. His mid term and final is one terms that were never spoken about during the semester and he is a HARSH grader. Turn around and run the other way!
Do not take this man's classes. He has the most unrealistic grading ever. run run run
This class is the hardest class I've ever taken, including AP and 300-level courses. The whole class is only out of 100 points and he is SUCH A TOUGH GRADER. He takes points off for the most minute things. You have to role-play nearly every class, which is a nightmare for anyone with anxiety. Not worth it all the effort for a gen ed.
Hard grader on the 5 worksheets that make up most of your grade. Midterm and Final are a multiple choice portion worth 5 points then two writing prompts that are worth 20 points that he grades harshly. The reacting part of class can be fun but are super confusing. there are much easier history classes!
The definition of a narcissist. I'll give it to him he's very passionate about his work but its to the point that if you don't have the same level of understanding or views as him your made fun of often times in front of the class. Would't recommend at all.
Highly recommend! You need to go to class for this one but you won't regret it! I looked forward to going to class during gameplay. He only lectures for a few class periods in the beginning of each unit and the rest of the semester is for gameplay. I think the homework assignments are very manageable. Loved this class, I will never forget it.
STAY AWAY. He's an ok guy but the 5 worksheets worth 7 points was well as the final worth 5pts is NOT it. He is so picky when it comes to writing as well. He also belittles you if you're not as knowledgeable as he thinks u are.
He is okay at teaching, but his style of humor and support make it feel like he is belittling. I don't think he means it but it can get frustrating. Other than that his lectures are fairly dry, and like most history classes your grade relies on like 2-4 papers for the whole semester.
I was a bit skeptical of this class at first because it requires public speaking and informal debate, but I ended up liking James. Being there is important, and it is helpful to read what is required in the syllabus. This course is definitely a lot for a gen ed, and I would not recommend if you are uncomfortable with speaking publicly. Otherwise ok
I honestly really loved this guy. The class was super fun with the two games we played all semester. Most of the class is focused on the games but there are some lectures that occur and they are really boring. Overall, the workload was a little heavier than normal but it was worth it as the games were so much fun. He was a tough grader.
He honestly is not a bad professor at all. Attendance is mandatory but I wanted to go to class during our games anyway. He has an interesting teaching style which I thought was fun. His midterm and final are very straight forward and he makes it very clear what will be on them.
This was not your typical history class. Reacting to the Past approaches history in a different way. Instead of traditional lectures, the class focused on two historical units, where students were assigned to role play historical characters for credit. If you don't like public speaking, this class might not be a good fit. Overall, a solid professor
Stay away!! I should have dropped this class right in the beginning of the semester. He is such a tough grader and barely gives feedback on how to improve. He is often rude to students, making it difficult to ask a question when he might be little you for asking a genuine question.
I would sincerely deter anyone from taking this class. He is an extremely belittling professor. He encourages questions, however, the second you ask he gives a passive-aggressive answer. He will write you off as incompetent the first time you misspeak or make a mistake. The grading is harsh with little feedback or elaboration on how to improve.
I took this class my freshman year based on a recommendation from a friend and I absolutely LOVED it. That being said, you have to be the type to love history and be comfortable speaking publicly. As far as a gen ed goes, not for everyone. Grading is difficult but it IS possible to get a perfect score if you're a bit of a history nerd.
