The Doc is one easy teacher. Show up to class and fall asleep. This guy is crazy when he teachers. I dont know what kind of drugs he is on, hes crazy. Just find the notes from someone and skip class. I havent even gone to class once and got an A on the exam.

This man will blow you away if you let him. He lives in his office and can hold some of the most interesting conversations if you're willing to try and have a free hour or two. He challenges his students in the hopes of being equally challenged.

The class is pretty easy. His grading scheme is a little strange though. If you miss one question you lose like 20 percent of your total grade (on the stout play test).... i agree with most of his views but at times his ego is teaching the class which isn't very good

If you like theater you'll love him. If not find another prof. I love Doc. He's one of fave my profs and sooo much fun. Yeah he can be longwinded but he's still awesome! I've acted under his direction and I don't think I've ever been better on stage. He just brings it out of you!!!

Not a bad class-a little boring though. Almost NO homework-just go to class. His whole paranoia of students cheating is a little wierd though as is his constant interjecting of his political opinions throughout the class.

Thinks he's some extraordinatory thespian -- intro to theater was supposed to be about theater,not him. Instead, he acted most of the time. I was embarrassed for him. Really a dork. He veered from the subject so much I got nothing but bad performances from his lectures.

The class has like no homework. He really likes his theatre facts so that makes it a good lecture because he goes beyond the powerpoints making the class more interesting than it should be. His test are pretty simple if you pay a little attention. I would take the class if you need a filler.

This guy is hilarious, really gets into it. Reminds me of the professor on Animal House. Class wise, there is NO daily homework. He has a very good back round and knows what he is talking about. test are not that hard.You have to attend a school play and 2 other professional plays and write a paper.

This guy is awsome.I have never see a professor lecture with such ease and passion.Funny as hell.You would have to be a closed mind idiot not to be interested in what he has to say, and an idiot for not doing well in his intro class.His lectures are more enertaining than a action movie.MILLER ROCKS!

Thinks that all of his students are only there to cheat on his tests and play solitaire during class. Inconsiderate, mean, crabby, impersonal, accusing, arrogant; BUT an excellent actor who knows exactly what he's talking about. if you take him, listen to the lectures but don't ever try to talk to him.

No need to read the book, just attend class and take notes. Lectures aren't too bad if you have a mild interest and the exam will be the easiest thing you take as long as you scan over your notes for five minutes. He can be a little boastful, but who isn't?

Well his teaching style is basically spouting out his own thoughts on theatre and what it is and isn't. You have to attend plays and write a paper (easy). Your textbook is one that you don't even really have to rent I don't think I opened it once. Just attend class periodically to keep up with what's going on.

Good class. Most interesting teacher that I've ever had. Acts while teaching. Easy to pay attention to. Class is pretty easy. Show up and do the class work, and you'll end up with a good grade. Only knock on him is that he never answers your emails.

Awesome class. Very easy, just show up and do the work and you'll get a good grade. He is a little eccentric, but very entaining. Tests are really simple if you've paided attention in class. I really enjoyed this class!

Basically you NEED to go to class everyday. Fridays are the most important day. Semester is only 100 points. The professor is very impersonal, rude, and opinionated. Don't ask questions in class b/c he will make you feel dumb. On a better note, he does know what he is talking about, if you decide to pay attention class is interesting.

Easy class. Definately not necessary to go to if you can get the notes; although I did find it hard to get A's on the tests when I only went to class 1 out of every 3 lectures. Recommended for a easy filler class!

Dr. Miller knows what he is talking about all of the time, but does put his own opinions into his lectures. He teaches really well and always explores/expands on the subject and is always open for questions during the lecture. Just make sure and read the book, take notes, and go to class everyday and you'll do alright.

Dr. Miller is one of a kind. Very interesting lectures if you are a fan of the fine arts and you try to get yourself into what he's talking about. Opinionated? yes. Intellectual? definately. if you're like me and you appreciate what the man is trying to teach then you will get an easy A. Just go to class and pay attention - its worth it.

Intro to Theater Online was great..Read the whole book and write four 4 page papers. I was dreading writing the papers when I first read the syllabus but it turned out that the papers were easy to write and he was an easy grader! Take it online, you dont even have to read the book to do the papers, they are mostly opinion questions. Great Class!

I was very impressed with him. I have always been interested in the art of Theater, but knew very little. He opened up my eyes to a lot of play writes and actors I never knew took part in Theater, I had only seen their Movie or TV careers. And of course he covered the origins. It was a very interesting class and I would suggest it to anyone.

Quite pompous! Extremely full of himself. Puts down entire populations of people, offends many students while teaching. Class was easy, just be prepared to roll your eyes throughout the class. Oh and don't even think about breaking out the laptops in his class.

He may be full of himself, but he knows what he is talking about. If you want to get an A, do this: Take good notes the first quarter and get a good grade on the midterm; then 2nd quarter see a play, write an easy 1 1/2 page paper on it in place of the final exam, and sit back and relax.

Dr. Miller was a wonderful teacher that knew alot about theatre. He was funny, nice and smart. I would recomend taking this class, you watch a play and write a short paper. He's a very east grader!

I'm not one to have issues w/ professors but I absolutely wouldn't recommend this professor to anyone for speech. This is suppose to be a 100 level, but he expects everyone to be at a professional level when it comes to writing & delivering the speech. His grading is unclear and feedback unhelpful. He doesn't like to answer questions you have eithe

He lectures non-stop but occaisonally they're actually interesting or he cracks a joke or two. otherwise the speeches were graded very tough for a 100 level course and he expected a lot out of everyone. For the most part i walked away wishing that i had a different speech professor who was easier to talk to and didn't think that he knew everything

He at frist seems like a really cocky man. If you meet with him and talk to him if your struggling after the first exam, he's very open minded. He gave me a lil more extra credit to improve my grade! People sleep in his class, but its a matter of how you view his point of view. people say looks down on you, i highly disagree! amazing teacher!

I had him for theater and speach in the same semester. He was a pretty easy theater teacher and the tests werent to bad. Overall a pretty good class to take. In speech he was terrible. I wish i would have had any professor besides him. he never listens or tries to help, and he acts like hes the smartest man alive. DOnt take for spech hard grade

Dr. Miller is a horrible teacher for speech, he bases your speech on professionals, such as our class being based on OBAMA. He was once a state champion and thinks that you should be too.He's very nit picky about little unimportant things.Doesn't teach you anything for the Final expects you to learn it all yourself. Not a teacher, hes a bad critic.

Online class where you read the book and write two 12 pages papers. Class was very straight forward, James replied quickly to e-mails and graded promptly. Worth taking if you need Humanities credits!

Had him for Theatre. Yeah, the guy is outta his mind and seems pretty self-sentered. BUT, his class is based off of Attendence, 3 tests, and a 12 point Extra Credit assignment. The easiest class of my semester by far. Just go and take notes and you will get an A.

This is not a class for people who have never taken or given a speech though the term 101 says otherwise. He is a good teacher but there is no leniency in his grading. Take this class if you want a painful yet effective way to learn public speaking but if your looking for an easy A, I warn you to go elsewhere.

Possibly the worst teacher i have ever had. He is very similar to Hitler due to the fact that he chooses the topics for speeches for you, and expects you to be a state champion speaker. he is horrible do not take him, I regret taking his class.

He was one of the best professors I have had at Stout. He is sooo funny and sort of crazy (in a good way)! The class is super easy. There are 2 textbooks that you are supposed to read but I didnt read a single thing and got a 100% in the class. Cool subject to learn about.

Favorite professor I've had at Stout by far! He's passionate, entertaining, and interesting. I'd sit in his lectures 8 hours a day if I could. Some say he's self-centered, but just don't take him too seriously. He's really just a big goof. Hoping to take more of his classes in the future. :-)

He is very enthusiastic about the theatre, and especially about stage and set production. He uses a lot of clips and songs to keep you interested in class. No laptops policy. Class is based out of 100 pts. Daily attendance points for attending class 19 pts. 3 tests worth 27 pts each. An extra credit paper worth up to 12 pts if you attend a play

If you are looking for a humanities credit this is a pretty good class to take..but be sure to pay attention take notes and an A or B is very possible and there is extra credit by writing a paper that can boost your grade by 12% i would recomend this teacher and class for general education requirements

Amazing Professor, I could sit and listen to him lecture all day. He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate. His tests are easy if you listen to him lecture and study a little out of the book. by far one of my favorite professors at Stout.

Had for a public speaking class. Made a combat veteran give a speech to the class about a massacre in Vietnam, then penalized him for choking up (the student had PTSD issues to begin with). I couldn't believe how inconsiderate that was.

AMAZING professor he was interesting to listen to. Will easily pass this class if you go everyday. no need to study for any exams. I didn't like theatre until i took it with Miller. He doesn't put slides online so you HAVE to go to class to understand what the exams are about.

I could listen to this guy lecture all day. Incredibly interesting and passionate about what he does. 3 tests, they are pretty easy as long as you attend lecture. And you can attend a play and get a TON of extra credit.

3 tests for the entire class including the final. Its an entire lecture class where you listen to him talk in ridiculous tones, and you watch movies and movie clips constantly. Most fun class i have taken

Interesting teacher. VERY theatrical (personally found annoying). Tended to get on his soapbox and rant. This class had 4 unannounced quizzes and two exams along with attendance (could only miss 3 without penalty) that made up the grade.

Extremely hard grader. He doesn't explain what you did wrong so the harsh grading isn't even constructive. Extremely arrogant and not helpful at all. He expects way too much from students when he doesn't even prepare you properly. Your course grade is based off only two speeches and the final. DO NOT take him. I worked very hard and got C's.

James Miller is probably one of the worst speech teachers that I have ever had to experience. Not only does he believe that you shouldn't have a social life in college, he also makes it happen with his four part, 30 minute online videos that he makes you watch every week. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.

This is the worse professor to take ever! Never have I meet someone who grade this hard or is so scary. You must go to every class, read everything, and watch all the videos or you will fail. He is very mean and down grading to his students. I will never and would never want to take any other of his classes. I highly discourage you from taking him

As a senior, I have have had many professors. James is the worst professor I have had. He has very strong political views and his lectures feel like a political class. He thinks very highly of himself, and spends way too much of class talking about how good at speeches he was in high school. He grades tough as well.
